Strange Bedfellows, or Yeah, Sure This Guy is REAAALLY Electable

We’ve been trying to wake Left Loonistan up from its Koolaide-induced stupor for months now. But they’ve only lashed back at us like frat boys crazed on crystal-meth. Well, maybe it’s too late for them, but, does anyone really believe that the Republicans have their heads in the sand as deeply as the Cheetohs do? There must be lots of sand in Ilostmybrainistan. Maybe the combination of koolaide and meth makes them crave the taste of sand?

We Are Watching You Open Thread

DAILY TALKING POINT 6/17/08: ROE V WADE IS SETTLED LAW. IT HAS SURVIVED 34 YEARS, 24 OF WHICH WERE UNDER REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTS. RIGHT-WING LUNATICS MAY NOT HAVE GOTTEN THE MEMO YET, BUT HERE’S THE FACTS: THE ERA OF FORCED PREGNANCY IS ALREADY LONG GONE. OBAMA MOVEMENT, YOUR SCARE TACTICS WONT WORK.

Today is a new day, Pumas! Shorttermer designed a letterhead yesterday with this image at the top and the words, “We Are Watching You” underneath. That’s a pretty good message to be sending to the media and the DNC right now. Summer’s starting, weather’s nice — they’re probably hoping we’re going away; that we’ll forget and move on. But guess what? The idea of just Move On is so yesterday, so 20th Century. We’re not going away, not moving on, not forgetting.

Open Thread until today’s Action Post is up.

UPDATE 6/17/08 at 9:05am: Yesterday’s letter to Howard Dean is getting some media play today. From the American Spectator:

“Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton’s supporters have coalesced into a PUMA (“Party Unity, My Ass”) coalition, which on Monday sent an angry letter to DNC Chairman Howard Dean, complaining that “the party’s nominee was selected…by means of a series of inappropriate actions and inactions.”

Amid such troubling omens, enthusiastic talk of remaking the Electoral College map — coming from Obama’s strategists in their first try at running a national campaign — should scare the Democrats witless.

Team Obama’s new map could very well lead Democrats down the familiar well-trodden path — to defeat.”

This is how it happens, folks. We keep active and organized and on message, and we will be heard. Will Bower and others at JustSayNoDeal are doing an excellent job at media outreach. At the same time, there needs to be a there there for the media to respond to when they finally wake up enough to start paying attention. We’re the there — right here. Puma PAC is making the most grass-roots noise, and we are doing an absolutely fabulous job of staying united and speaking with one voice.

We are the weight that is going to pull the Democratic Party back onto its true path. Right now, struggling with the impossible baggage of the Obama Movement, the party looks something like this:

Poor Donkey! We need to help this poor Donkey!

Saturday Morning Hangover Kvetch and Open Thread

DAILY TALKING POINT, via riverdaughter: “BARACK OBAMA DID NOT RUN A BRILLIANT WINNING CAMPAIGN. HE WAS CARRIED ACROSS THE FINISH LINE BY HIS FRIENDS.” Blog it Pumas, blog it!

UPDATE: 6/14/08 at 11:22am: This may send you back to last night’s liquor cabinet Pumas. This morning the Great Orange Satan calls for our murder. Oh yeah, they also call us “shit.” Stay classy Obamabots, stay classy.

UPDATE 6/14/08 at 12:21pm: “Obama’s Bump Turns Into a Slump” according to Gallup.

UPDATE 6/14/08 at 5:15pm: FLYERS, FLYERS, FLYERS! Please send an email to marylandpuma@gmail.com  and/or dcinvegas@gmail.com for BEAUTIFUL new Puma PAC flyers. Challenge yourself to distribute 50 flyers in public places this gorgeous weekend. We have some really talented graphic artists in our ranks. A huge thank you to them for all their work.

Well gals and guys, Friday night is over and Saturday is here. Share about your Friday night — what did you did you do, with whom did you argue and why? Did you win the argument or walk away frustrated and sad? Did something happen that you wish hadn’t? This is our Hangover Saturday morning thread. Kvetch, coffee klatch and recover from the opening inning of the weekend.

Have you ever gotten into an argument about this election with someone you care about? A family member, co-worker, or neighbor? Someone whose opinion you wanted to change? Or perhaps you didn’t care too much about changing their mind, but just wanted to be treated with enough respect to be listened to. Were your opinions treated with disdain, dismissed, or even distorted so as to make you look like a racist, a bore, or a fool? This is the place to vent about those arguments. I’ve spoken with SO many people who came away from flare-ups like that disheartened, embarrassed, and angry. Let us know what happened when you argued with people about why Hillary was the better candidate, and if you’ve learned any tricks the last six months about how to either avoid or WIN arguments like that.

And somebody get me some more damn coffee!

And one more thing, Buy a tshirt and mug! We’re going to need bucks to fight this sort of thing.

UPDATE and ALERT, 6/13/08 at 8:15pm: URGENT! Read this CNN Political Ticker article and add Puma comments. Be sure to add our website http://blog.pumapac.org to your comment. Thanks to Hireheels.

This has been a great week Pumas! Congratulations for all the work everyone has done to organize, act, and plan so that we WILL achieve Puma PAC’s goals this summer and fall.

Continue the open thread here for Friday afternoon and evening. We have lots of updates and new actions planned for the weekend, so stay tuned.

Special note to lurkers and newcomers: this is an Open House thread. If you haven’t commented before, please do so here! Let us know where you’re from, why you joined Puma PAC, and generally what’s on your mind. Old-timers (heh!) show your tried and true Puma hospitality to our Puma cubs.

Once again, thank you one and all for all of the hard work and dedication this week. Every morning, when I posted a new Action thread or update I only had to wait minutes before the comments started rolling in with news of accomplishments, encouragements, and action. WELL DONE!

Friday Morning Lunch Open Thread

While the coffee  third pot of coffee is brewing, let’s take a quick look back at our first week. We started this PAC and blog on June 3, and since then over two thousand people have officially joined. If you haven’t done so yet, please click here. The blog has grown from a few dozen registered users in the first three days to over 2,000 today. If you read back through the threads, you see a real sense of motivation and organization growing as we transformed our sense of loss into a sense of purpose. Pumas like Dragonfly, Antifish, Sandipuma, SunnyPA, BrianKnoxville, Elaine and many others have shown leadership and wisdom in the discussions, welcoming newcomers, offering praise, and reminding all of us what we’re here for with their insightful and motivating guidance. Some have gone above and beyond, creating logos and flyers, managing lists and spreading the word about Puma PAC to the far reaches of the internet.

We’ve all accomplished quite a bit however, in just a matter of days.

  • Hundreds of letters on June 4 to the DNC
  • 1,000 Reasons letters to Howard Dean
  • Dozens of examples in the Brazile Watch folder, bursting to get out onto the blog
  • Thousands of emails, comments, and posts here and around the blogosphere — getting the word out
  • More than halfway to our fundraising goal for Puma PAC advertising
  • Hundreds of Good Guy letters to those in public life who have stood up for democratic values

We still have a lot to do, but November is five hot months away, and we will reach our goals — to Protest the 2008 Presidential Election, fight back against the media bias, and change the leadership of the DNC who have so shamefully led this party to the brink.

If you haven’t yet contributed, please consider doing so this morning. To place ads in major media, reach out to democrats offline, and amplify our voice will require a lot of money. Thank you to those who have contributed already.

Use this open thread to pat somebody here on the back. Maryland Puma for the logo, perhaps. Genevieve for keeping the list going the first night. Or just someone whom you respect for their comments, outlook, or insight. Let’s take a breather before we regroup.

UPDATE: 6/13/08 at 11:00am: URGENT! Visit this MSNBC web-article, read it, and post PUMA comments in the thread.  They’re discussing whether there actually was sexism directed at Clinton by the MSM (geez!) Add our group’s website in your comments. The comments so far are RIDICULOUS! Thanks to hireheels for the tip.

June 12, 2008: Good Guys Day; Update and Action Open Thread

Today is another day Pumas, so let’s keep rolling. We continue to attract thousands of NEW visitors every day. Some of them perhaps less welcome than others as evidenced by our site hiccups yesterday. Posting today will be light as Murphy attends to making sure this site is as strong and secure as we are.

To get the good karma flowing in our direction, and to remind ourselves that there are actually plenty of good guys out there who have been fighting back against the media bias and the DNC “selection” process this primary season, let’s use this Action Open thread to identify the good guy politicians, msm journalists, and public officials who may feel discouraged and embattled today. PLEASE provide email addresses as often as you can. After posting an example of a Good Guy (I know, I know — there may only be a handful) send an email to the Good Guy.

Be specific, precise, and brief. No more than 5 or 6 lines in the email. BE SURE to write “Puma Democrat” after your name.

EXAMPLE: Thank you Mayor Nutter for your courage and integrity in not giving in to the political and public pressure to support a nominee who was selected, not elected. You are a credit to Democrats everywhere.

Sincerely,

Murphy

Puma Democrat

Keep bragging in this thread about actions completed from yesterday’s Action post and add your city or town to the roll call here.

(credit to MarylandPuma aka UnitedWeStand for the stupendous logo.)

NEWCOMERS, welcome to Puma PAC. Take a few minutes, look around, make yourselves at home. If after checking out the pages in the right sidebar and getting acclimated you still have questions about our PAC blog, send an email to info@pumapac.org. We’ll do our best to answer your question as soon as we can.

PLEASE consider sending a contribution. We really do need it to keep this site going and our movement growing. $5 or $10 from a lot of people goes a LONG way. Funds collected are used EXCLUSIVELY for building the Puma PAC and blog. We are a political action committee registered with the Federal Elections Commission. Contributions are not tax-deductible.

All About Pumas, part 1

The puma has the greatest range of any wild terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere, extending from Yukon in Canada to the southern Andes of South America. An adaptable, generalist species, the puma is found in every major New World habitat type. [source]

We are everywhere.

From Kathryn in Kansas City to Brian in Knoxville; from Lori in Puerto Rico to Kim in Grand Rapids. In big cities, small towns, suburbs, houseboats, farms, and mountain villages — thousands and thousands of Pumas have made their solitary way here to join our movement. We are private citizens. We work, go to school, and take care of our families in our separate communities, but we have one important thing in common: we vote. By the millions.

On November 4, 2008, in private voting booths in every city and town across this huge country, alone and unwatched, as is our way, Pumas will carry out the Protest of the 2008 Presidential Election. We will cast the millions of votes that will decide the next President of the United States.

Perhaps because of our immense geographical range, the campaign strategists and experts assumed we could not unite. Perhaps they believed that distance would engender division; that we would not coalesce because of the disparities in our ages, our professions, our regions, our lifestyles, and our backgrounds. Perhaps they hoped that by attacking and baiting us we would go away. Perhaps they were wrong.

In comments below, simply write your city or town and state. No other information is necessary. Let’s peek our heads up for a moment for the country to see that indeed “the puma is found in nearly every American habitat type.”

NOTE: After adding yourself to the roll call here, proceed to today’s June 11 Action post for the Open Action Thread.

June 11, 2008: Update and Open Action Thread

Happy 1-Week Birthday to Puma PAC! We were visited over 100,000 times in our first 4 days, and we’ll double that in less than four more. We really are everywhere.

UPDATE 6/11/08 at 3:44pm: Please read this post by Heidi Li. It is eye-opening and supports the feelings of mistrust and disgust many Pumas have expressed here. The backlash against the DNC and the media has begun in earnest. We are a powerful force in that backlash. Read Heidi’s post and do what you can to support Senator Clinton.

1. Send a copy of any email or letter you have received from Donna Brazile to us at murphy@pumapac. org with the “subject: brazilewatch”. Be sure to tell us here that you’ve contributed to “Brazile Watch.” (Thanks to Sable1 for the tip)

Welcome Newcomers; Update; and Open Action Thread

Newcomers, welcome! Please join Puma PAC by clicking here. Then come back and join in the actions and discussions taking place here on our blog. To comment, you need to register with WordPress as a new user. They will email you a temporary password to get you started. Look in your junk email folder if you don’t see it in your inbox in a few minutes. Thank you for joining us!

To add your voice to the chorus of Pumas who are stating their reasons and intention to protest the 2008 Presidential election, after registering as a new user with WordPress, go to the “1,000 Reasons” post and enter your letter. Please follow the format that is described there — it is important that our letters be uniform in presentation. Be personal, passionate, and brief. Thank you for joining us! The “1,000 Reasons” thread is for letters to the DNC only. We need to be able to download them and print them so that they can be useful. Please only post letters to the DNC in the “1,000 Reasons” post below. Please do not post off-topic comments in that thread — let’s stay organized!

MEMBERS, please use this Action Open Thread to post when you accomplish any of the following actions:

1. Writing your protest letter to Howard Dean. Click here. Then come back and tell us you did it!

2. Withdrawing your membership in the Democratic Party and re-registering as an Independent. Do NOT do this if your state has an important Democratic primary in the fall that is only open to Democrats. Check your primary calendars and election regulations. Call your local election office. Share the information for your state here.

3. Request a refund of all the contributions you made to the DNC. Their bylaws require them to refund donations made within a certain time limit if requested. Send a polite and concise email to DNCMemberServices@dnc.org You do not need to itemize or remember when or how much you donated. All you need to give them is your name and address. They will look up your info in their database and get back to you right away (within 1-2 days). Tell us when you send the letter and tell us what you receive as a response.

4. Find the names and emails of Unfaithful Superdelegates in your state who plan to ignore the will of the voters. If Hillary Clinton won the popular vote in your state but you have superdelegates who have pledged support for Barack Obama, we need to know who they are and how to contact them. Post their contact info here. We are not campaigning for Hillary Clinton. We are not blanket-lobbying superdelegates. The primary campaign is over and Hillary was forced to suspend her campaign because the DNC decided that Obama has the delegates necessary to be selected for the nomination. We are protesting the actions and inactions of the superdelegates, elected officials, and DNC leaders who brought us to this place; who have appointed a nominee by selection rather than election.

4. Get five friends or family members to join the Puma PAC. Tell them to visit our website, join by sending an email to join@pumapac.org, and contribute $5 to our growing movement.

Please be organized, focused, and effective. The actions you take today will be done by yourself, but you are not alone. Take the solitary, personal actions outlined above, then come back here and share, brag, and inform.
