What’s John McCain playing at? His unpredicted announcement of a Homeownership Resurgence Plan caught pundits on both the left AND the right by surprise. The left pretended to yawnwhile the right threatened to blow a gasket. Well, none of THAT is surprising. What’s curious to me is WHY did McCain drop such an unexpected policy initiative on voters last night? Seems like a pretty big gamble this late in the game. My hunch is that McCain is betting Republicans are NOT going to bolt the party and vote for Obama at this point. Seems a pretty safe bet to me. Republicans may not love McCain, but can you imagine ANY of your Republican friends voting for That One?
Didn’t think so. If it were Hillary he were facing, McCain might not be so willing to risk his base’s ire. But alas, it is a man McCain faces in November. (No indulging in “what might have been,” Folks — them days is over.) And, of course, the committed Obama voters are NEVER going to vote for McCain. NEVER. Not even if Larry Sinclair, Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, and Louis Farrakhan himself all host a joint press conference in the nude and regale the public with tales of drunken and drugged bestiality involving Barack Obama, a donkey, and a very lonely Acorn. And then burn a flag and make fun of how gullible intellectual white people are.
Ahem. Anyway — I think McCain is risking the Choir by preaching to the Heathens (that’s us, Folks. Us Heathen Racist Pumas!). He’s taking his base for granted and conceding the voters of Obama Nation. The question is, will it work?
I’m not sure. I was admittedly intrigued by the idea of a $5,000 health insurance credit (would help my family a LOT) since I know Obama is as committed to UHC as I am to abstinence only sex ed and I also know that the economic landscape of the next four years will make it pretty much impossible for real UHC to pass. So $5 grand a year until 2012 to cut down on our health insurance costs? Hmmm. And now add in an apparently sincere and far-reaching plan to include the working class in the COLOSSAL BILLIONAIREs’ BAILOUT of 2008?
I’m intrigued. As a Puma with no candidate in the race, watching this game play out from the sidelines has at least some benefits. What do you all think?

Sol Stern will have none of it. In “The bomber as school reformer,” Stern writes:
“Calling Bill Ayers a school reformer is a bit like calling Joseph Stalin an agricultural reformer. (If you find the metaphor strained, consider that Walter Duranty, the infamous New York Times reporter covering the Soviet Union in the 1930s, did, in fact, depict Stalin as a great land reformer who created happy, productive collective farms.) For instance, at a November 2006 education forum in Caracas, Venezuela, with President Hugo Chávez at his side, Ayers proclaimed his support for “the profound educational reforms under way here in Venezuela under the leadership of President Chávez. We share the belief that education is the motor-force of revolution. . . . I look forward to seeing how you continue to overcome the failings of capitalist education as you seek to create something truly new and deeply humane.” Ayers concluded his speech by declaring that “Venezuela is poised to offer the world a new model of education—a humanizing and revolutionary model whose twin missions are enlightenment and liberation,” and then, as in days of old, raised his fist and chanted: “Viva Presidente Chávez! Viva la Revolucion Bolivariana! Hasta la Victoria Siempre!”
Stern reminds us that Ayers was a revolutionary driven by hatred of the United States when he was planting bombs in the 1970’s and he is a revolutionary driven by hatred of the United States now. The intervening years include the period of his alliance with his young Chicago friend Barack Obama. Stern drily observes: “For the first time in his life, Ayers seems to be observing Democratic Party discipline and won’t be talking until after November 4.”

The disturbing look on the young Bill Ayers’ unnervingly boyish (despite the MANLY MUSTACHE!) face reminded me of this other very young “radical.” Though there has always been something fiercely tragic and horrible in the look of terrified determination in McVeigh’s eyes and mouth. McVeigh comes through (to me at least) as a horribly misguided and WRONG “true believer.” Ayers looks like a sadistic psychopath straight out of central casting.

“One of the funniest and most politically searing comedy sketches in years has vanished from the Web site of NBC’s Saturday Night Live. Visitor comments asking about its disappearance are also being scrubbed from the Web site. The sketch — a harsh indictment of the housing meltdown that led to last week’s bailout bill — was clearly too much truth for someone to handle.
The seven-minute sketch featured a mock news conference of Democratic Congressional leaders on the bailout bill, during which Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank inadvertently acknowledge that it was Congress that blocked reform and effective oversight of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

They were followed by actors portraying the real-life couple of Herbert and Marion Sandler. They explained how they built a mortgage company that specialized in subprime mortgages, which they sold to Wachovia Bank for $24.2 billion in 2006 — one of the worst acquisitions by any company ever. It helped precipitate the collapse of Wachovia last week.
The Sandlers were hustled off the stage by “Speaker Pelosi” after they said they couldn’t understand why they were invited to a news conference of “victims” since they had done so well out of the housing crisis.
They were followed by financier George Soros, identified as “Owner, Democratic Party.” The actor portraying Mr. Soros informs the group that the $700 billion bailout package “basically belongs to me” and that he has decided to short the U.S. dollar. That will trigger a devaluation “either Tuesday or Wednesday. I haven’t decided which yet. It will depend on how I feel.”
The brutally wicked sketch must have caused tremors in left-wing circles. The Sandlers and Mr. Soros have all been prime financial backers of independent political groups that have secured huge influence in the Democratic Party and helped fuel the rise of Barack Obama.
The Sandlers, for example, were major donors to the left-wing radio network Air America as well as the liberal housing lobby ACORN, a major player in pressuring banks into making more subprime mortgages. They also donated $2.5 million to MoveOn.org, the liberal group that insulted General David Petraeus as “General Betray Us” last year. Mr. Soros contributed a like amount. In turn, Eli Pariser, the head of MoveOn.org, was quite candid after the 2004 election about the influence this left-wing cabal hoped to exercise: “Now it’s our party: we bought it, we own it, and we are going to take it back.”
No doubt the Sandlers and Mr. Soros were displeased with the Saturday Night Live sketch. Herbert Sandler told the Associated Press that its portrayal of him as a predatory lender was “crap.” “We are being unfairly tarred. People have been telling us to speak out for some time, but we didn’t think it was appropriate. That was clearly a mistake.”
I suspect that some of the people the Sandlers have spoken to — or complained to — are the corporate overseers of NBC. That may explain why the bailout sketch has been airbrushed from the network’s Web site and will likely never be shown again.
That’s a shame, because rarely has political satire been more timely, pointed and, in many respects, so truthful.”

I was searching the intertoobz for pictures of Rezko’s slum buildings — you know, the ones that he received ONE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS from Illinois’ and American taxpayers (the rolling rivers of cash guided into his back account with a little help from his friend Barack Obama) to rebuild — and NEVER DID??
Yeah, those ones. It’s funny — if I want to find pictures of slums in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, or Miami all I have to do is type: “urban decay” into The Google and, voila! All SORTS of discouraging images pop up. But go ahead and try to find images of “rezko buildings,” or “chicago south side,” all of the images have been SCRUBBED. Gone. Go back in the archives of No Quarter and look what happened to the images that used to be there. GONE.

That little story out of Saint Louis two weeks ago was no canary in the coal mine, right? Truth Squads prosecuting political speech is nothing to worry about!
Has anyone ever been to the South Side of Chicago ??? I have – many times . The residents there have been surviving in sub-standard conditions for years . There are no jobs , crime is rampant , and the housing conditions are so poor it is a complimentary exaggeration to call them slums. The word ‘projects’ indicates a work in progress , but on the Chicago’s south side it takes on a different meaning – a stagnant , decaying slum . 11 of these deplorable buildings on the south side are owned by Obama’s friend Tony Rezco.
Obama funneled State money to Rezco to ” improve conditions in those buildings ‘ – never happened.
Obama also funneled $100,000 for a ‘ let them eat cake’ gazebo on the south side . The gazebo was never built even though I am sure that those families who are living in falling down buildings in crime infested neighborhoods were really hoping for a freaking gazeebo .
Sen. Obama handed his wife’s employer a 1 million dollar earmark . He requested 3 million to update a projector at the Sky Theater . Trinity Church and Rev. Pfleger benifited from the 100 million dollars Obama doled out for the Annenberg Challenge which was SUPPOSED to have been used to help the failing public school system . Some of the programs Obama turned down for grants were : The Chicago Algebra project , and The District 5 Math Initiative – both are worthy projects that the public school system desperatly needed to finance . Meanwhile , Obama’s buddies , and radical groups received millions .
When you go to vote this year , I would encourage you to check out the South Side of Chicago , Obama’s own Senate district . See what “Change” Obama has brought to his own district . Take a look at how his ‘leadership’ has ‘improved’ his own community , and then ask yourself , ” If Senator Obama doesn’t care about his own community, what will he do for me ?”

The Associated Press has probed Barack Obama’s earmarking activities in the Illinois state senate and discovered two grants that put state money in the hands of Michelle Obama’s cousin. Capers Funnye received $75,000 from Obama for his organization, Blue Gargoyle, for adult literacy and youth group activities. Read HERE.

Krugman gives Obama tepid support for NOT GETTING IN THE WAY (inspired yet?), and hammers McCain for being reckless and misguided. The next 24-48 hours will be VERY interesting — watch for both sides to be scrambling to both claim credit for AND reject the plan. Obama called the current plan “an outrage, an outrage” and then said he’d vote for it on Wednesday. Huh? McCain is regrouping. Which means he’s losing ground. It’s the Independents who matter to the candidates this week. The basic question for them is:
Who do you trust more to rescue and grow the economy? Barack Obama or John McCain?

“A gambler by nature, and a more tactical debater than Mr. Obama, Mr. McCain took a high-stakes risk in trying to seize control of the debate two days ahead of time and throw Mr. Obama off-balance. It will be interesting to see how that dynamic plays out tonight and how far Mr. McCain takes that kind of brinksmanship.

‘These candidates are very well prepped,” he says. “They are two self-possessed people, so the idea that one of them will blurt out some awful indiscretion or appear to be gobsmacked by the other is really unlikely.’
What is more probable, he says, is that viewers will be guided by subtle cues.
‘They’ll be watching the body language, the presentation, the tone of voice, the gestures,” he says. “They’ll be watching for McCain to borrow some of Obama’s academic approach and for Obama to find a little more of McCain’s fire.’”
Subtle cues? Sounds about right. Will Obama come across as arrogant and rambling as he did during his debates with Hillary? Will McCain come across as old and uninspiring?

This is the first of today’s PROWLS. It’s not exactly hush-hush, as you can see, but I want this one to reach far and wide. Today we are talking back to the Mainstream Media and the Democratic Underbelly.

Sarah Palin is a symbol of everything that is wrong with the modern United States. As a representative of our political system, she’s a new low in reptilian villainy, the ultimate cynical masterwork of puppeteers like Karl Rove. But more than that, she is a horrifying symbol of how little we ask for in return for the total surrender of our political power. Not only is Sarah Palin a fraud, she’s the tawdriest, most half-assed fraud imaginable, 20 floors below the lowest common denominator, a character too dumb even for daytime TV — and this country is going to eat her up, cheering her every step of the way. All because most Americans no longer have the base energy to do anything but lie back and allow ourselves to be jacked off by the calculating thieves who run this grasping consumer paradise we call a nation.

She appeared to be completely without shame and utterly full of shit, awing a room full of hardened reporters with her sickly-sweet line about the high-school-flame-turned-hubby who “five children later,” is “still my guy.” It was like watching Gidget address the Reichstag.
