It never stops. Never, ever. If Sarah Palin had tried to campaign in the wardrobe she has hanging in her closet in Juno, you know, the Ann Taylor suits that cost $148.99 and the three or four pairs of $200 shoes, the 4 jackets, six scarves, five handbags, and one pair of snazzy but scuffed gen-yoo-ine snakeskin boots with which every professional woman with children tries to look good while making do, she would have been HOUNDED RELENTLESSLY and ridiculed as a shabby, amateur hick in every media outlet in the universe. Just ask Michelle Obama. A very stylish lady, in my opinion. But nothing protects her either. She is ridiculed and hounded for wearing belts that are too big, dresses with floral prints, and scary boots. She probably spends a LOT of money on her clothes. And why not? She’s a very wealthy woman. Cindy McCain has made getting dressed a full-time job since she was 7 or 8 years old. She looks great, perfect even. At all times. It’s a bit scary actually. And Hillary? Cleavage, kitten heels, and pantsuits. Enough said.
This is how it works, Folks. An impossible standard is raised and we are all expected to bankrupt ourselves to meet it — to spend a phenomenally STUPID amount of money on clothes and accessories, to hate the way we look in order to motivate ourselves to BUY MORE, and to feel shamed and ugly when we cannot or will not play the game.
The Palin’s combined income in 2007 was $170,000, with $25,000 going to taxes and $8,000 to charity. That means $11,500 a month net for a family of seven. Not bad. All the bills get paid on time, presents fill the room on Christmas morning, college gets saved for, Dad gets a snowmobile, and Mom can buy a reasonable amount of clothes every year to do her job. In 2006, their net monthly income for their family of six was $9,833. And it was less in the years prior to 2006. A nice, comfortable two-salary family in this day and age.
But NOT enough to dress like Cindy McCain, or Mika Brezhnev, or Andrea Mitchell, or Candy Crowley, or Michelle Obama.
Sarah Palin is an upper middle class WORKING CLASS person. No one so “poor” has run for national office in 150 years. When Bill Clinton ran he had been Governor for 8 years and Hillary had already made them wealthy (plus, der, he’s a guy and this is a DOUBLE standard we are talking about). Dan Quayle, Al Gore, John Kerry, both George Bushes, Dick Cheney, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter? Barbie Barack Obama and Joe Biden? All rich. Really rich. And male too, so it doesn’t even count. Nancy Pelosi? RICH. Even Geraldine Ferraro was rich. Hillary is rich.

Email the media and tell them that if they can devote an investigative budget of tens of thousands of dollars to snoop around Sarah Palin’s closets and Cindy McCain’s daughter’s Facebook account, maybe they could throw a few bucks toward finding Barack Obama’s birth cerificate, or his drug dealer, or his college transcript, or his ties to ACORN and Ayers.

In the audience Saturday [at the McCain rally in Virginia], there were plenty of people who were mad about [Joe the Plumber]. There was real anger at this rally, but it wasn’t, as some erroneous press reports from other McCain rallies have suggested, aimed at Obama. It was aimed at the press. And that’s where Tito Munoz came in.
After McCain left, as the crowd filed out, Munoz made his way to an area near some loudspeakers. He attracted a few reporters when he started talking loudly, in heavily-accented English, about media mistreatment of Wurzelbacher. (It was clear that Spanish was Munoz’s native language, and he later told me he was born in Colombia.) When I first made my way over to him, Munoz thought I was there to give him the third degree.
“Are you going to check my license, too?” he asked me. “Are you going to check my immigration status? I’m ready, I have everything here. Whatever you want, I have it. I have my green card, I have my passport — “
I was a little surprised. Did Munoz really bring his papers with him to a McCain rally? I asked.
“Yeah, I have my papers right here,” he said. “I’m an American citizen. Right here, right here.” With that, he produced a U.S. passport, turned it to the page with his picture on it, and thrust it about an inch from my nose. “Right here,” he said. “In your face.”
Munoz said he owned a small construction business. “I have a license, if you guys want to check,” he said.
Someone asked why Munoz had come to the rally. “I support McCain, but I’ve come to face you guys because I’m disgusted with you guys,” he said. “Why the hell are you going after Joe the Plumber? Joe the Plumber has an idea. He has a future. He wants to be something else. Why is that wrong? Everything is possible in America. I made it. Joe the Plumber could make it even better than me. . . . I was born in Colombia, but I was made in the U.S.A.”
The scene turned into a mini-fracas when David Corn, of Mother Jones, defended press coverage. Munoz was having none of it. Why, he asked, would the press whack Joe the Plumber when it didn’t want to report on Obama’s relationship with William Ayers, the former Weather Underground bomber? “How come that’s not in the news all the time?” Munoz said. “How come Joe the Plumber is every second? I’m talking about NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, and CNN.”A black woman with a strong Caribbean accent jumped in the fray. “Tell me,” she said to Corn, “why is it you can go and find out about Joe the Plumber’s tax lien and when he divorced his wife and you can’t tell me when Barack Obama met with William Ayers? Why? Why could you not tell us that? Joe the Plumber is me!”
“I am Joe the Plumber!” Munoz chimed in. “You’re attacking me.”
“Wait a second,” Corn said. “Do you pay your taxes?”
“Yes, I pay my taxes,” the woman said.
“Then you’re better than Joe the Plumber,” Corn said. That set off a general free-for-all. “I’m going to tell you something,” Munoz yelled at Corn. “I’m better than Obama. Why? Because I’m not associated with terrorists!”
The reporter from Mother Jones believes people who pay their taxes are “better” than people who owe the government money. That, Folks, in a nutshell is the NeoLiberal approach to ethics and morals — reflexively condescending and profoundly hypocritical at the same time, just exactly like the Radical Right.
Gosh darn the MSM and the DONC for putting our nation through this. First they gleefully swarmed Hillary out of the race like a pack of rabid, sexist dogs — just to show us that a woman’s job is ALWAYS to help a man, no matter how incompetent and inexperienced he may be. “Shut up, Hillary. Sit down, Hillary.” That’s what they fed us every single gosh darn day and night during the primaries. The overriding message, from February to August, was “When will Hillary GO AWAY??”

Today, a black woman and long-time Puma PAC supporter in Pittsburgh who does NOT support Obama was harrassed and threatened with arrest simply for attempting to hand out flyers to her McCain-supporting neighbor. A different neighbor, watching her approach the McCain supporter’s door, yelled at her to go away and leave them alone. The harasser, who is a white Obama supprter, assumed that because the woman is black she MUST also be supporting Obama and therefore was “obviously” about to commit a crime by knocking on her neighbor’s door.
A “funny” joke making the rounds on liberal Democratic sites has Joe Biden askin Sarah Palin at the VP Debate “What’s the difference between your mouth and your vagina?” ANSWER: “Only some of the things that come out of your vagina are retarded.” This joke is EVERYWHERE on Democratic sites, again with countless approving comments.

A Celebration of Hillary Clinton’s Historic Presidential Campaign! What makes this historical event special? It’s not just because it’s named after Maya Angelou’s famous poem “Rise,” but that it will also close with the lighting of candles to pay tribute to Hillary and all of her achievements, while also symbolically reigniting the flame of America’s great Democracy and Lady Liberty’s torch. Candles will Rise as participants at Cheesman Park and communities across the nation will recognize Senator Clinton’s achievements in one harmonious gesture of celebration. This will be a marvelous opportunity for those who worked on Hillary’s behalf and her supporters as well as all who believe in and appreciate our Liberty and Democracy to come together and enjoy an afternoon and evening of festivities. This is a free event; all Hillary supporters/fans are welcome. Puma Pac activities begin at 4:00 p.m. and end at 6:00 p.m. The Rise 2008 takes over at 6:00 p.m. Speakers and entertainment begin at 7 p.m.. The festivities will end with the national “RISE” candle salute to Hillary, Democracy and Lady Liberty at precisely 9:45 MDT.

Another amazing day Puma PAC. Tens of thousands of letters and cards, thousands of phone calls — WOW! In between planning for Denver and receiving phone calls or emails from The Colorado Statesman, Newsday, USA Today, The New York Observer, and NPR, I’ve also been communicating with higher-up political types, and Ladies & Gents, the stories aint pretty. Gov. Rendell’s pressure on delegates to pipe down and fall in line is just one of many in a concerted, serious, and outrageous effort to hold the Unity Pony in check at ALL COSTS. Delegates in Colorado being threatened with replacement if they sign the 300 Petition; delegates in Kentucky told they will be “primaried” and punished by the Party if they ask for a roll call vote and nomination. And outrageous (and I mean OUTRAGEOUS) pressure on Hillary to RELEASE her delegates immediately in order to KILL the NOMINATION question DEAD.

DENVER
As I mentioned in the UPDATE in the previous thread, we have a $20,000 budget for Puma PAC activities in Denver. We will be hosting a media and delegate outreach center downtown, with live-blogging and radio broadcasts from several of the Puma Movement bloggers, writers, and radio directors. We will also be hosting delegate and media outreach events from this Puma Den — offering a warm welcome to all of those brave 300+ who stood up to the Party Big Shots and defended democracy at great political and professional risk to themselves. They will be feeling QUITE alone and vulnerable in Denver, and we want to thank them and remind them that, though we may be outnumbered in Denver, we represent a VAST pack of Pumas who support and will defend them.
Another major aspect to our Denver presence is our Puma PAC Headquarters, one block from the Pepsi Center. This is where every last Puma will come to get their t-shirts, signs, water bottles, snacks, flyers, and instructions. We will be operating 8am to midnight every day of the Convention and will be a beacon to ALL Pumas. We will be live-blogging and web-camming Everything, so don’t fret if you cannot get to Denver. However — if you CAN get to Denver, get your ass there! We’ll be there, we’ll be safe, and we’ll make history! Very exciting news — We have joined with an amazing Puma group from Indiana and have secured permits for an all-day Beautiful Protest and Rise in one of Denver’s loveliest parks, just 1.5 miles from the Convention Center. This event is separate from the 18millionvoices activities and is completely PUMA! And finally, we are matching Puma Angels with Pumas in need for traveling to Denver. Since we were unable to raise enough funds for a sufficient number of buses to Denver, we will be using the Bus Fund to help individual Puma members get there. Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell (whose HOUND attempt to counteract the burgeoning Puma Movement flopped at the end of June) has instructed Hillary Clinton’s pledged delegates NOT to sign a petition circulating among some delegates to place Clinton’s name in nomination for a roll call vote in Denver. In an email we obtained yesterday, Mary Isenhour, executive director of the state Democratic Party in Pennsylvania, makes it clear that the message from the top is unequivocal: Shut up and don’t make a move until the big shots tell you what to do.

The 300 Petition, as it has come to be known, is a delegate-led effort to follow provisions in the nominating rule book of the DNC that make it possible for delegates themselves, rather than the Party or Convention Chair, to nominate a candidate for President at the party’s national convention in Denver. Rumors have been flying since Clinton suspended on June 7th that Howard Dean and Barack Obama were trying behind the scenes to script a Unity Show in Denver in which Obama received the unanimous support of the delegates. Because of Dean and Obama’s vague allusions to “negotiations” around a Clinton roll call vote, it has become increasingly clear that the DNC and the Obama campaign would much prefer Clinton to efface herself again by conceding her right as the runner-up in the delegate race to ask the that her name be put in nomination by the Chair. If Clinton were to make such a request, it would be politically unpleasant for Obama or Dean to deny her the same privilege given to past candidates, like Shirley Chisolm, Jesse Jackson, and Ted Kennedy. The fact that Clinton received vastly more delegates than any of those past candidates would make the snub even more outrageous.
For close watchers of this quiet drama being played out by a battered Obama campaign and a flat broke DNC, it appears that Clinton’s hands are tied. Her future role in the party and the inclusion of her universal health care plan in the official party platform are likely being used to stay her hand in requesting a roll call vote. The maneuverings of late July, in which Clinton pledged delegates began to feel the pressure to fall in line silently behind Obama, led several of them to begin circulating the 300 Petition as a way to work around the loggerhead at the top.
DNC rules state that a petition to place a candidate in nomination at the Convention, signed by no fewer than 300 delegates, must be accepted by the Chair. Our contacts in the 300 Petition effort tell us they are quite confident they will meet and easily exceed the 300 signatures, all of which are notarized, in the likely event that the Obama campaign, following the lead of Barack Obama himself in his discrediting campaign against Alice Palmer in Chicago, will attempt to challenge the validity of the elected delegates’ signatures.
“We know how Obama operates. We’ve seen it in Chicago for years, and we’re not taking any chances,” says one of the delegates I spoke with who is organizing the 300 Petition.
Puma PAC Members — Today’s PROWL will be in response to this outrageous attempt by Rendell and other party big shots to bypass the Democratic process by pressuring and intimidating delegates and voters into falling in line behind Obama. The nominating process on the convention floor is time tested and fair. Why is it only this year, the first time that a woman has come so close to being the nominee for the White House, are the delegates (and the 18 million voters they represent) being forced to give up their voting rights at the Convention? Is it a coincidence that Obama and Dean are so brazenly demanding that the woman candidate step aside so that the selected man can shine in the glory of a coordinated show of smoke-and-mirrors Unity? We think not.
UPDATE AUGUST 11th AT 3:09PM: It has come to my attention that the so-called Puma formerly known as Knoxville (aka Knoxville Puma, Knoxville Brian, and Brian Carniello) has been incessantly blogging lies and misinformation about Puma PAC and me personally all around the internet, specifically in regard to Puma PAC’s finances. As our members and most readers know, Puma PAC is a political action committee registered with the Federal Elections Commission. This means we must follow very strict and specific campaign finance laws, and that our financial disclosure forms are a matter of public record. In June of 2008 we raised just over $22,000. In July we raised approximately $20,000. Our July disclosure forms will be submitted this week and made public by the FEC soon after that. As of July 31st Puma PAC had spent about $8,000 on our documentary and youtube clips, $2,000 on printing and shipping, $5,000 on web hosting and development, and $2,500 on legal fees. The remainder being safe and sound and untouched in Puma PAC’s own bank account with Bank of America. Our budget for Denver is close to $20,000. That means we are frugal, cautious, and will soon be flat broke. ALL of our contributions come from individual donors, the VAST majority of them $25 or less.
