These are the Reasons for the Puma PAC Protest of the 2008 Election
The DNC punished the VOTERS of Florida and Michigan with DISENFRANCHISEMENT because of the actions of their elected officials. In Florida, Democratic VOTERS WERE DISENFRANCHISED because of the shenanigans of a REPUBLICAN legislature.
The DNC CHANGED THE VOTES of 600,000 Michiganders on May 31, 2008 when it stole 4 pledged delegates from one candidate and re-pledged them to another.
The Obama Movement PAID THE SUPERDELEGATES who endorsed Senator Obama. Crucial Super Delegates pledged their support to Obama after the Obama Movement contributed tens of thousands of dollars to them. These were Super Delegates whose constituents had voted overwhelmingly for Senator Clinton in the primaries.
The DNC ALLOWED SEXIST BIAS TO HANDICAP THE ONLY WOMAN IN THE RACE. When Tucker Carlson said that Hillary Clinton was a CASTRATOR, the DNC WAS SILENT. When Chris Matthews said that Bill Clinton’s INFIDELITY was the ONLY REASON for Hillary Clinton’s achievements, the DNC WAS SILENT. When the MEDIA CIRCUS unleashed a sexist onslaught of criticism against Senator Clinton regarding: her laugh, her cleavage, her pants, her wrinkles, her earrings, her “bitchiness,” her emotional “instability” the DNC WAS SILENT.
The DNC and the Obama Movement SUPPRESSED THE VOTES OF CLINTON DELEGATES at the National Convention in Denver. On August 27th, 2008 the DNC and the Obama Movement maneuvered an undemocratic and underhanded voting script to ensure that Hillary Clinton’s pledged delegates (and the 18 million votes they represented) HAD NO VOTE. Entire state delegations were brow-beaten into voting Present or Passing their votes to other states. August 27, 2008 is a day that will live in infamy for the Democratic National Committee.

Clinton Delegates are pissed. The Clinton National Delegate Network, a grassroots movement of delegates is on the streets of Denver collecting signatures from Hillary delegates. This eleventh hour effort is being organized to ensure that delegates who were elected to represent the voters of each state can and will vote for the candidate they were pledged to.
The DNC and Nancy Pelosi, the Chairman of the Democratic Convention, are doing everything in their power to make sure that does not happen. With Obama’s flagging support, according to the polls, running neck and neck with McCain, they are very worried that Hillary will get the nomination if a roll call vote takes place on the convention floor. That is why they are making the delegates have a secret hotel vote, instead of the floor vote that’s been done since forever. The hotel vote will purportedly take place on Wednesday morning, August 27, 2008.
However, there is a DNC rule that says if 20% of a candidate’s delegates sign a petition for a roll call vote, it must happen. This means that Hillary needs 826 of her delegates to sign this petition. I visited their headquarters along with BettyJean, Pagan, Hill08, and BrendaLynn. As we set out on our mission, we got three signatures in less than one block. They headed for the Pepsi Center to collect more, and got about 40 in an hour, and I came back to Puma Headquarters to blog. Last word I got was there were over 400 signatures gathered.
Pagan reports that he talked to a delegate who originally supported Hillary. The delegate declined to sign or divulge the delegation he was from. He said he would vote the way his state party told him to vote and that Terry McAuliffe had instructed them in how to vote. When Pagan asked if he’d mind sharing what that way of voting would be, he also declined, and then just turned his head and refused to engage in the conversation anymore.
Delegates have reported to us that Obama supporters are stationed outside of each delegation’s room with clipboards, ready to make sure that once again, despite their best efforts to represent their constituents (approximately 12,000 voters per delegate in the case of primaries, and 585 in the case of caucuses), that Hillary delegates and voters are ROBBED of their democratic rights.
As recently as this afternoon, we knew that the hotel vote would take place in each delegation on Wednesday morning, and that Hillary would have a special luncheon with her delegates at 1pm. Rumor had it that she might release her delegates then.
However, we have an unconfirmed report coming from someone inside the Pepsi Center that Hillary Clinton will make a special announcement tonight during her speech. Although I’m ever the optimist, call me paranoid: Will she try to pre-empt this grassroots effort by releasing her delegates tonight?
I can’t even imagine the pressure she is under by party leadership. We even heard that President Clinton’s speech would not be televised live in prime time.
Oh my, is the DNC running scared or what? We need divine intervention. If you’re a praying person, give it your all.
Spent the morning inside the Pepsi Center doing interviews with NECN, New Delhi TV, the CBC, Al Jazeera England, and WABC in San Francisco. (That’s me with the lovely ladies from New Delhi TV, Sarah and Nadia). Larry King is calling.

DENVER - This is supposed to be Barack Obama’s convention. Yet it’s Hillary on the eve of her speech tonight - and dramatic film of her life - whom everybody’s talking about. Press, pundits, many of her 2,000 delegates flashing “women for Hillary” buttons like dope addicts desperate for a Hillary-centric fix.
Then there are the Nobama-at-any-cost squads such as PUMA, or Party Unity My Ass. It’s run by Darragh Murphy, ex-of Dorchester. Yesterday PUMA staged not one but two demonstrations here. They’re urging members to track down Howard Dean and Nancy Pelosi at their hotels (are they at the Sheraton or the Ritz with CNN’s Anderson Cooper?) If members do smoke Dean or Pelosi out, they’re instructed to leave this message:
NO SECRET BALLOTS! A ROLL CALL VOTE ON THE CONVENTION FLOOR. NO MORE INTIMIDATION OF (Hillary) DELEGATES!
PUMA’s “Audacity of Democracy” mini-film says Obama cheated in caucuses and cheated in Texas, and it mocks his supporters as dim-witted Kool-Aid drinkers. In an interview before the convention, Murphy insisted she isn’t secretly a Republican but just enraged that the DNC has jettisoned the democratic election process “in favor of transcendence” with . . . . The Chosen One.

Back to the blog — boy is it good to be back. The Rise was beautiful and inspiring. Riverdaughter, always brilliant on her feet had us all cheering, Betty from Pittsburgh PA told us a story about Hillary and why she drove straight to Denver in her red pickup truck decorated all over with HILLARY signs. Igor, Ladyboomer, Edwin, and Shtu brought us all to tears — and the candles were flickering in the wind.

When Saharra introduced Riverdaughter she said, “You know she’s trouble — look at that red hair!” and Riv took the mic and said, “My red is hair is mine because I paid for it!” (have I mentioned that I love Riverdaughter?) Denver is so damn QUIET. There are more police officers than reporters and there are no Obama supporters in sight (well, maybe a few — but honestly, we walk down the streets with our signs and t-shirts and people cheer! They ask us for Hillary stickers!)

The premiere party last night was a huge success. CNN, ABC, NPR, the AP, and reporters from Germany, Italy, Japan, and France were here. The food was deelish and Pumas from all across the USA were rapt as they watched the new 40 minute clip from The Audacity of Democracy. After the screening we did a Q & A and Pumas are ready for ACTION. We are planning some late-developing ACTIONS here in Denver to protest the last ditch efforts of the DONC to silence the Hillary Delegation and erase her presence in the Democratic Party.
The 300 Delegate contingent are on the verge of devastation. After all their work, all their dedication the Big Shots are STILL planning a work-around. Now they’re talking about a closed door written vote on Wednesday morning with no established Chain of Possession. No roll call vote is the threat.
There is no avenue to submit the petition. The delegates were hoping to present the petition tomorrow to be read on the floor. Now it looks like they won’t get the chance to even do that.
