(thanks to goandersen for finding the graphic)
Puma PAC starts heading to Denver from the east, north, south, and west tomorrow, Folks. Tonight I want to thank each and every Puma PAC member and friend who has made this possible. Back when we started, we weren’t sure if we should go to Denver at all. The whole Coronation of the Precious just seemed like a downer. But then we started sending our hundreds of thousands of letters to delegates and officials; we started making tens of thousands of phone calls to the DNC; we started sending tens of thousands of faxes to the media, the state houses, the capitol, and the campaign headquarters. After that we started seeing our name, Puma PAC, in print, on the radio, and on TV. We started getting letters back from delegates and phone calls from Party officials. WE STARTED TO REALIZE THAT OUR VOICES WERE BEING HEARD AND OUR INDIVIDUAL, COORDINATED ACTIONS WERE HAVING AN EFFECT.
And then we said to each other. You BET YOUR ASS WE’RE GOING TO DENVER!
And then we realized that it was going to be ONE HECK of an effort to get ourselves there and to be effective. We leased office space. We ordered signs and banners. We designed t-shirts and posters. We planned a party. We invited bloggers and radio hosts. We looked for cheap hotels and guest houses. We bought markers and poster board and cups and plates and water bottles and a bulletin board and a bull horn. We rented a stage and a microphone and speakers.
And then we raised the money — over $25,000 raised in just a few short weeks, most of it last weekend in one enormous push. WE DID IT — YOU, each and every one of you reading this, MADE THIS HAPPEN.
Because of the generosity of Puma PAC members and friends, today Puma PAC is helping over 100 Pumas get to Denver from more than 20 cities all around the country. I want to list the places from which Puma PAC members are traveling to Denver because of YOU.

Without your commitment, your passion, and your HELP, none of this would be possible. I am humbled and inspired by every Puma PAC member in America. We set out on June 3rd to make history. In Denver we will reach that goal. After Denver, no matter what happens, we will be here — at www.pumapac.org — to take the next steps in our journey.
THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE, ALL THAT YOU ARE DOING, AND ALL THAT YOU WILL DO.

Candle Lights Set to Rise
In Commemoration of Hillary Clinton’s Historic Presidential Campaign!
THE RISE 2008, an event slated to honor Hillary Clinton’s Historic
Campaign will take place on the evening of August 25th from 6 until 10 p.m., in
beautiful downtown Denver’s Cheesman Park.
What makes this historical event special, isn’t just that its named after
the Maya Angelou’s famous poem “Rise," but that it will also close with
the lighting of candles to pay tribute to Hillary and all of her achievements,
while also symbolically reigniting the flame to America’s great Democracy
and Lady Liberty’s torch. Hundreds of participants are expected to attend,
and candles are planned to Rise across the nation, community by community in
one harmonious gesture of participation.
The Rise 2008 is being hosted by Rise International, a group of women whose
common bond in supporting Hillary Clinton drew them together over the
internet. While they haven’t physically ever met, they have spent weeks on both the
computer and over the phone in planning this entire event.
What started out as a great idea was just that -a great idea- until PUMA
PAC, (People United Means Action), the group noted for their commitment to Hillary
Clinton, agreed to sponsor The Rise, and now there’s no looking back. Dr.
Bledsoe has no doubt that this will be a marvelous occasion for everyone who
has worked on behalf of Hillary Clinton, as well as all her supporters/fans who
just believe and appreciate our Liberty and Democracy will all have an
opportunity to come together and enjoy an evening of festivities.
It's been a real journey to put this event together, but thanks to the
tremendous support from The City of Denver and the real sense of neighborly care
and concern from the various vendors, Dr. Bledsoe states that its seems like all
we are really going to have to worry about is the weather.
This is a free event and all Hillary supporters/fans are welcome. PumaPac
activities in the park will begin at 2p.m. and run until 6 p.m. The Rise
speakers and entertainment will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 10 p.m., with the
national “Rise” candle salute to Hillary, Democracy and Lady Liberty to
Kickoff in Cheesman Park at exactly 9:45 MDT.
August 18th, 2008 — Action, Celebrate!, Denver, DNC, DONC, Join us!, Puma PAC C.A.N., ROAR!, The Audacity of Democracy

We have a full press release and Schedule of Activities being released today of ALL of our activities and locations in Denver. I will post it here just as soon as it is ready.
Two quick notes: Please read these two articles today and plan to take action. One is by Riverdaughter, the other by Heidi Li. (Oh, and while you’re at it — read Anglachel. She’s like vitamins — must take every day.) Both explain why it is that we cannot afford to rest on our laurels and assume that the Obama Movement and the DONC will follow the rules in Denver. We must continue to contact super delegates and delegates. Please use the lobbydelegates site as well as your own knowledege of Super Delegates in your state to make sure they get the message: A SYMBOLIC SHOW IS NOT ENOUGH. SENATOR CLINTON’S DELEGATES MUST BE ALLOWED TO PLACE REAL VOTES THAT COUNT DURING THE ROLL CALL.
Second, our weekend Fundraising ROAR! was a Smashing Success! Our goal was to raise $10,000 over the weekend. Well, we reached and exceeded that goal by a long way. I finally was able to tally the account this morning and guess what? We didn’t raise $10,000 dollars,
PUMA PAC MEMBERS RAISED $17,749.44!!!
Congratulations Puma PAC, and THANK YOU! We now head to Denver with as many Puma PAC members as we can help to get there, knowing that we have sufficient funds to make sure our presence is organized, effective, and LOUD! Now we focus on MAKING HISTORY, our number one goal all along.
oh, and p.s. — I sent out a PROWL this morning. Mamapuma is on vacation for a few days (how dare she!) so please forgive the absolutely ugly formatting. Don’t judge the book by the cover, though — just because it’s ugly doesn’t mean it’s not true. heh-heh.)
Today is a new day Puma PAC, be wonderful to each other!
August 17th, 2008 — Celebrate!, Denver, Puma PAC, ROAR!, The Audacity of Democracy

We did it — we exceeded our goal of $10,000 dollars raised this weekend — by several thousand dollars! I will have an exact amount to report in the morning. Until then, I hereby decree this thread a money-free zone. We have a great PROWL planned for tomorrow and lots of final details to report. Our press release and final schedule will be available here tomorrow as well.
It is truly amazing to watch the work of so many talented and committed people coming together these past days to make something historic happen for all of us. Let’s not kid ourselves — 2 months ago, we were nobodies — just individual people around the country who were very unhappy and confused by what happened in the Democratic Party this year. We didn’t know what to do or where to turn. But in a few short weeks we have completely turned that around. TODAY, we have a mission, a movement, and a community. We are Puma PAC, People United Means Action, and as the Voice of the Voters, we WILL be heard!
As Paddy O’Bloggin would say, “Sláinte agus táinte!”
August 17th, 2008 — Action, Barack Obama, Celebrate!, Denver, DNC, Join us!, Murphy&Friends, Puma PAC C.A.N.

The Beauty of Liberty
Well, folks — we did it yesterday. We exceeded our fundraising goal of $4,000 dollars. In one day Puma PAC raised $4,980 dollars for our Denver Headquarters and Beautiful Protest and Rise on August 25th.
Congratulations and THANK YOU to all you contributed.
Today — Sunday, August 17th — is the final day of our Denver Fund Drive!
Our goal is to raise $6,000 dollars
by midnight PST today!

We ARE the ones no one was expecting.
I know, it IS a challenge. Especially since so many did everything they could yesterday to raise $4,980 dollars. But, we already have $2,500 dollars pledged today from our very own Puma PAC Houston Dynamos, so we are ALREADY almost half-way to our goal. As Dr. Saharra Bledsoe, our wonderful guest on Murphy and Friends last night always says, “WE CAN DO THIS.” That is the signature on her email, and every time I read it, it lifts me up.
WE CAN DO THIS. Spread the word. Ask your friends and family to chip in just $5 or $10 dollars (ask them to do it for YOU). Blog this message to your favorite spots on the internet. Let’s bring 1,000 new visitors to www.pumapac.org today.
Contribute HERE if you can, and THANK you. Also big thanks to Billie Jo, Terry Do, and MP for their wonderful work yesterday keeping us all focused, energized, and informed. I hope they are up for one more day of fundraising!
If you didn’t get a chance to listen to Murphy and Friends last night on NQR, you can listen HERE now. No one should miss the interview with the inspiring and wonderful Saharra Bledsoe.
UPDATE AUGUST 17th at 10:19am: Check us out in the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. WSJ article just released this morning.
Welcome New Members! Please visit our Main Page for more info about Puma PAC.
It is still PUMA PAC ACTION WEEKEND! Visit our ACTION Center; download 50 or 100 flyers or cards and Paint the Town Puma today! We have Spanish language flyers, LGBT flyers, brochures for senior citizens, business cards, post cards, and much more. I was on the phone yesterday with Jessi from NYC (what a great Puma she is!) talking about Denver details while she was handing out flyers in Manhattan. Her super idea is to place 10 or more flyers in the front of those free circular and newspaper boxes that one finds all over the place in big cities. While we were talking she kept getting interrupted by Manhattanites who were picking up the flyers and wanting to talk to her about Puma PAC. What a great idea Jessi!
Be wonderful to each other. Today is a new day!

We are the ones no one was expecting.
August 14th, 2008 — Action, Celebrate!, Denver, DNC, Hillary Clinton, Join us!, Puma PAC C.A.N., ROAR!, The Audacity of Democracy

In 10 days Puma PAC and all of the JSND coalition will be in Denver, Colorado to protest the coronation of an Unready King and to bear witness to the unraveling of our Party. This is the final count-down to our first major public demonstration. Marylandpuma, mamapauma, dances, trish, Lori, Saharra and I are in a dervish of activity making it all happen so that when we get there we all look good, feel good, and ARE good. This isn’t a Million Woman March. It’s more like Thousand Woman Stand. We’ll be visible in parks and on streets. We’ll be live-blogging and broadcasting Murphy and Friends. We’ll be hosting delegate outreach and media hospitality events from our Secret Puma Den in Denver. Our Puma PAC Headquarters, one block from the Pepsi Center, will be an Oasis of Puma for any and all who need a break from the ever more tiresome Obamania. AND we have teamed up with the inspirational Dr. Saharra Bledsoe and her group Rise to co-host an all day event in beautiful Cheesman Park in downtown Denver on Monday, August 25th. Speakers, entertainers, and activities to be announced in the next few days. One hint, if you’re coming to Denver, bring a white candle.
I will be continuing to ask for donations for Denver until Sunday. After that, we will do great things with what we have and Denver fundraising will be OVER. I KNOW how many of you incredibly generous Puma PAC members have contributed already. It honest to god makes me cry to think of the donations and letters I get in the mail from regular, every-day people from all around the country — women, and men, who are NOT rich, far from it, but who are determined to give $10 or $15 to make this movement work. I am humbled by your good will and faith. Your trust in me is more weighty than anything I have ever carried, and every day I think of the individual people like Mary Ann in Missouri, Hester in Massachusetts, William in San Diego, and Virginia in Pennsylvania who have sent in small (and large) checks to Puma PAC with notes and letters saying “I love Hillary and I love Puma!,” or “Please do this for all us.” I wear the hand-painted Puma seashell amulet from Mary in Virginia every day because it brings us all good luck and it reminds me of not just what we are fighting for, but WHO we are fighting for.
We are fighting for US — the seniors, the uninsured, the sick, the poor, the immigrants, the union workers, the single mothers, the isolated rural and the isolated urban families, LGBT people who always stand up for justice for others and ALWAYS find themselves alone when they try to stand up for themselves. In short, Puma PAC is fighting for the vulnerable — all of us who deserve to be represented by a political party that respects and represents us and who have been let down miserably by the Democratic Party. Not all of us are vulnerable individually. Some of us are privileged, successful, healthy, young, and even rich. It is my belief that the burden for carrying this movement falls even heavier on us.
Here is the LINK to contribute, and THANK you. And here’s a link to our HOME PAGE if you are a new visitor (Welcome!)
Posting will be light. If ever I’ve been able to offer insightful or complex political analysis, these next 10-14 days will not be seeing any repeats of that. From here on out it will be Denver ACTION, PLANNING, and UPDATES at Puma PAC. We WILL have a Prowl today, maybe even two. Today, and every day, check out Riverdaughter and Anglachel for the smart stuff. And read Alegre for the smart and JUICY stuff!
A well-known columnist and radio personality from my local daily, The Boston Herald, Margery Eagan, wrote about us today. As much as she can’t stand Hillary (I know, I know – I believe she’s still reeling from the pain of 1998 — wake up Margery, the future is beautiful, the present is now!), she wrote a column that is fair, and the undercurrent of respect for our movement is discernible. Please read it and comment. I’m pretty partial to my home city. Here’s the LINK. I’ll be on WTKK (96.9 FM in the Boston area) today at 3:20pm on the Jay Severin show (our old pal Curtis filling in for Jay). Check it out if you can.
August 12th, 2008 — Celebrate!, Denver, DNC, H.O.U.N.D., Join us!, Puma PAC C.A.N., ROAR!

Another amazing day Puma PAC. Tens of thousands of letters and cards, thousands of phone calls — WOW! In between planning for Denver and receiving phone calls or emails from The Colorado Statesman, Newsday, USA Today, The New York Observer, and NPR, I’ve also been communicating with higher-up political types, and Ladies & Gents, the stories aint pretty. Gov. Rendell’s pressure on delegates to pipe down and fall in line is just one of many in a concerted, serious, and outrageous effort to hold the Unity Pony in check at ALL COSTS. Delegates in Colorado being threatened with replacement if they sign the 300 Petition; delegates in Kentucky told they will be “primaried” and punished by the Party if they ask for a roll call vote and nomination. And outrageous (and I mean OUTRAGEOUS) pressure on Hillary to RELEASE her delegates immediately in order to KILL the NOMINATION question DEAD.
More details, FIRST thing in the morning. Keep bragging, sending those letters and blogging our message.
Also, listen in to Riverdaughter’s nascent radio show on No We Won’t Radio tonight, from 9-10:30pm eastern. Here’s the LINK — DO call in!

DENVER
As I mentioned in the UPDATE in the previous thread, we have a $20,000 budget for Puma PAC activities in Denver. We will be hosting a media and delegate outreach center downtown, with live-blogging and radio broadcasts from several of the Puma Movement bloggers, writers, and radio directors. We will also be hosting delegate and media outreach events from this Puma Den — offering a warm welcome to all of those brave 300+ who stood up to the Party Big Shots and defended democracy at great political and professional risk to themselves. They will be feeling QUITE alone and vulnerable in Denver, and we want to thank them and remind them that, though we may be outnumbered in Denver, we represent a VAST pack of Pumas who support and will defend them.
Another major aspect to our Denver presence is our Puma PAC Headquarters, one block from the Pepsi Center. This is where every last Puma will come to get their t-shirts, signs, water bottles, snacks, flyers, and instructions. We will be operating 8am to midnight every day of the Convention and will be a beacon to ALL Pumas. We will be live-blogging and web-camming Everything, so don’t fret if you cannot get to Denver. However — if you CAN get to Denver, get your ass there! We’ll be there, we’ll be safe, and we’ll make history! Check out www.airbedandbreakfast.com for Denver accommodations — these are private rentals in Denver from $45 to $15,000 a night — there is space available at EVERY budget level.
Very exciting news — We have joined with an amazing Puma group from Indiana and have secured permits for an all-day Beautiful Protest and Rise in one of Denver’s loveliest parks, just 1.5 miles from the Convention Center. This event is separate from the 18millionvoices activities and is completely PUMA! And finally, we are matching Puma Angels with Pumas in need for traveling to Denver. Since we were unable to raise enough funds for a sufficient number of buses to Denver, we will be using the Bus Fund to help individual Puma members get there. If you (or someone you know) are a few hundred( or more) dollars short but are planning to attend PLEASE email gotodenver@pumapac.org right away and let us know what your needs are. In addition to our existing fund we have many generous offers of sponsorship from Pumas and we will match needs with resources.
So, it’s happening Folks. There is no turning back now. I have no idea how this will all turn out or what awaits us in the next 3 weeks, but I do know this: we will be there; we will be strong; we will be united; and WE WILL MAKE HISTORY.
Help us if you can HERE. and THANK YOU.
