Thank you so much for the reply!
I guess that was a pretty stupid comment to refer to “people you don’t know.” Some of the emails ended up going out to everyone at our newspaper — front office staff, graphics folks, etc. — so in my mind, it was somewhat random. Obviously, you had no way of knowing that the email was going to anyone other than journalists. My bad.
The mainstream media definitely seems to have given Sen. Obama a free pass on a number of issues, such as the coal bankruptcy comments. It’s more than a little disconcerting.
The PUMAs certainly seem to be very organized. It will be interesting to see if the late emails swing some votes. Do you know how many emails you ended up sending?
We were a little surprised to get emails because we don’t really cover national races (like the presidential race) as our focus is on really local issues (i.e. city council, hospital and cemetery district board, etc.). Further, there’s pretty much no way Wyoming would ever vote for Obama. I guess that’s what sparked our curiosity.

Cindy for Congress
First of all, I would like to announce that Nancy Pelosi NEVER agreed to debate me and her other two opponents. Last week, on KQED, she said that she would “never hesitate” to debate anyone, but HER OFFICE WOULD NEVER EVEN ANSWER US! She has NEVER debated anyone. Pelosi knows that she has an indefensibly deplorable record and that I would show her for the hypocrite that she is. It’s one thing to say that she is against the occupation of Iraq and then continue to fund it. It’s one thing to tell the Wall Street banksters that the “party is over” but then give them 700 billion dollars to continue whooping it up on taxpayer’s money. It’s one thing to say that she represents San Francisco values but then does not impeach the most criminally corrupt President in history against the wishes of her district. Pelosi should have had the courage and respect for her constituents and the democratic process to answer why she gave Bush and the telecom companies immunity from spying on us without warrants and why she allowed the war criminals to continue their policy of torture. Pelosi knew that debating me would be a disaster for her, so although she’s been in the district for many days now doing interviews and fund raisers her time was “compressed” and she didn’t have time to face her opponents and the voters of California’s 8th district.
Last night, Cindy for Congress had one final volunteer meeting before the polls open at 7 AM today. A young Latino gentleman, whom I have never met before, came into HQ and told me that he waited in line at City Hall (for 4 hours, that’s another entire conversation) to early vote and he talked to 40 people who all voted for me. Not one person he talked to voted for Pelosi. I got this email from a voter named Matthew this morning:
I have voted early and voted democrat for all seats but sf’s 8th district. I VOTED FOR YOU.
I worry how Ms. Pelosi can be outed (sic) since I can’t find one person who voted for her.
Our volunteers who were out doing visibility and canvassing today reported overwhelmingly positive experiences and I have had the same sort of experiences myself lately as I have been out campaigning. It seems like there has been such a shift in this city since we qualified for the ballot in early August.
In talking to our staff and volunteers tonight and reflecting on the past 15 months of campaigning, I realized that I had many false assumptions about how the campaign would run and am gratified at how great things did turn out!
When we first came here in August of 2007, we had a dinner for some of our friends and activists here in town. I believed that my campaign would get a lot of support from the anti-war movement, but even though many of the groups/leaders have endorsed Obama (who is not a “peace candidate” by any stretch of the imagination), they claimed that they couldn’t endorse or help me because of “non-profit” status. Consequently, the natural base that we believed that we would have did not materialize and we had to seek support elsewhere to build our campaign.
Secondly, back in August 2007, no one had any idea who would be the nominees for President. I knew, however, (based on history) that the Presidential race would not focus on important issues, and I have been proven to be correct. We have had a 24/7 dosage of candidate associations; flag lapel pins; who loves Jesus or America more and how much is spent on clothes or how many houses each candidate owns.
I believed that the race in California’s 8th district would be the perfect chance to put important issues into the national dialogue since I was running against the Speaker of the House and I did already have name recognition and had been in the media previously. I never anticipated the near total black out of news about the campaign from establishment/corporate media! Even most of my so-called progressive media friends shut me out. Only KPFA and Green 960 gave me a platform with token appearances on other sources. The SF Chronicle only covered the campaign when it would have been patently obvious that they were ignoring Cindy for Congress. We have brought up serious solutions to the profound problems this district and nation face and the black out of our campaign is disgraceful and so transparent. Nancy Pelosi has done several interviews here in the district in the past week and I want to know how that can be fair when she has a fierce competitor who has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars here in the district campaigning against her? I am actually the only person running for Congress here who is actually campaigning and the media has shamefully continued their fantasy of one-party rule here in San Francisco.
Despite the challenges, I am so proud of this campaign. We have raised a decent amount of money without party backing and having to build our base from scratch. We have placed thousands of signs and tens of thousands of pieces of literature all over the district. Hundreds of people have made thousands of phone calls for us and we made history by even getting on the ballot!
The thing I am most proud of, though, is that CFC never sold out our vision or our principles for money or votes. We were told by early “consultants” that I should change my message (ie: not talk about peace or impeachment or the toxic problems of Bay View) and change the way I dress, talk, and write. Our “consultant” actually came to me with an offer for tens of thousands of dollars from Tom Delay’s (dirty, former House Majority Leader from Texas that was forced to resign from Congress in disgrace) PAC! As you can imagine, that “consultant” did not last long!
Cindy for Congress has won victories every day that our office stayed open despite the attacks and the marginalization of our campaign. We ran a courageous campaign and hung in there with our platform and vision even when the days were darkest and we couldn’t pay our rent. We never gave up and we never once doubted that what we are doing is the absolute right and honorable thing to do.
Win or lose today, I am winning or losing with my integrity and our vision intact. We have been supported by so many of you that it will continue to grow and blossom and Nov. 4th is only the beginning of a movement that just also happened to be a political campaign.

I just got a ‘Delivery Status” notice: permanent failure
Reporting in from Long Island, NY –
Voted about 2 hours ago and I was number 460 in my district. That is unheard of in this area. The officials asked to see photo id or the actual election card sent to you as verification. There was an inspector presiding over the entire procedure. As I pulled the lever, I said “This one’s for you Hillary”.. Thanks TT for the suggestion. and as I walked out, I said “PUMA POWER”…
It felt wonderful… but that’s only the start. Met a friend who told me about a mutual friend of ours, a 73yo woman staunch democrat who has never wavered from the Party. She was having her tea and watching TV, while getting ready to vote reluctantly for “the one”. As she watched and saw how long it took him to vote and then saw MO with her “clean” look, thoroughly disgusted, she got up from the chair, ranting that MO won’t be her First Lady, stormed out of the house and went to vote…. ALL REPUBLICAN……..

I voted in West Oakland… McCain/Palin… and I voted for Barbara Lee who is my representative. I didn’t want to vote for Lee considering she voted for the bail out (and now it seems like I get an email from her everyday). But she stood up against the war so I figured her arm must have been tied for the bailout vote.
Hopefully my neighborhood will be quiet tonight. Some AAs, wandering through my neighborhood, are vocally discouraging people to vote for BO. Part of me is paranoid that they are casing those who may have voted for McCain. Hard to believe or read anyone, anymore.

#50 Asian4Hillary I also got a refund check but, truthfully, last night, I could not go to sleep because I felt sad and guilty when I received the check. My son told me that Hillary worked really hard for us and I agree with him. I just felt betrayed even though she did what she had to do. If McCain wins, I will send Hillary the check back so she can run in 2012; if he doesn’t, I will not send it back as I still think the Clinton’s overdid their support for him.
That is why I only got 5 hours sleep last night and had to take a nap today. It’s a sad day for me that Hillary will not be our President.

Hello pumas! OMG. I have been so busy today. I went to three different polling precincts today. I picked up some friends and got them to vote. The polling places weren’t crazy or anything. People didn’t really talk, and the lines were no longer than 15 minutes.
I cried a little after voting. I have a bad cold. Just so tired. I think I cried because maybe I am stressed, but also because I didn’t feel joy in voting for McCain. Wishing it was Hillary, mainly because it would be an uplifting and happy thing for me. Felt sad Obama is a fraud. I remember him bowling and doing so poorly and people made cuts at him, but to be honest, it was the only time I liked him at all. So I just feel sad that Obama is not really the guy people think he is. He’s not a hero. He has not been a good guy.
Well, I would like to say: Don’t pay attention to the polls. There were polling people outside of the precincts I would to–calling it out, and so many people just keep walking by until one doesn’t, and then answers the poll. I mean, it’s largely unscientific and lacks balance.

WHO AM I??
I was raised in one country but my father was born in another. I was not his only child. He fathered several children with a number of women.
I became very close to my mother because my father showed little interest in me. Then my mother died at an early age from cancer. Later in life, questions arose over my real name. My birth records were sketchy and no one was able to produce a reliable birth certificate.
I grow up practicing one faith, but converted to Christianity because this was widely accepted in my country. But I practiced non-traditional beliefs and did not follow mainstream Christianity.
I worked and lived among lower-class people as a young adult before I decided it was time to get serious about my life and I embarked on a new career.
I wrote a book about my struggles growing up. It was clear to those who read my memoirs that I had difficulties accepting that my father abandoned me as a child.
I became active in local politics when I was in my 30s and then burst onto the scene as a candidate for national office when I was in my 40s. I had a virtually non-existent resume, very little work history, and no experience in leading a single organization. Yet I was a powerful speaker who managed to draw incredibly large crowds during my public appearances.
At first, my political campaign focused on my country’s foreign policy. I was critical of my country in the last war. But what launched my rise to national prominence were my views on the country’s economy. I had a plan on how we could do better. I knew which group was responsible for getting us into this mess.
Mine was a peoples campaign. I was the surprise candidate because I emerged from outside the traditional path of politics and was able to gain widespread popular support. I offered the people the hope that together we could change our country and the world.
I spoke on behalf of the downtrodden including persecuted minorities such as Jews, but my actual views were not widely known until after I became my nations leader. However, anyone could have easily learned what I really believed if they had simply read my writings and examined those people I associated with. But they did not.
Then I became the most powerful man in the world. And the world learned the truth.

Pookie — a couple of weeks back — I had posted that I called the HillPac office (don’t have the phone number handy) — and I told the lady that answered that I was deeply upset that Hillary was out stomping for a candidate that is dripping in corruption. While I completely supported her campaign during the primaries, and to also help pay down her debt — I could not support her efforts to campaign for Obama. I respectfully requested a refund under those circumstances. The lady was very understanding and I received my refund check yesterday as well. Many of the PUMA’s thought it was a good idea and did the same. It took a few weeks to process so be patient if you want to take the same protest measures. I would like to make it clear that I was respectful but firm in my message. I still admire Hillary but felt strongly I needed to send a message that her speeches on Obama’s behalf were intolerable to her supporters. I realize that money contributions or the lack of it is the best means of protesting.
I CAN’T STAND TO WATCH THE NEWS .On fox the only state John was ahead was Kentucky. I just came back to the web site. I am so nervous.

This started to happen at least once a night; when they were in the living room and the dogs were asleep on the floor, they would both jerk up suddenly, and in tendem follow something across the room. ….

How many times does she have to say that she didn’t buy the clothes, she didn’t want them and has given them back. I remember when Hubert Humphrey was running for POTUS the media bashed his wife, I think her name was Muriel, because she had the nerve to sew her own clothes and then wear them to all of the rallies. She always looked nice. I always thought Jackie was pretentious for having her clothes especially designed for her. this clothes thing needs to stop. good night.

Grizzly! No “red eyes” that was a nightmare I once had as a kid. I think I went to bed watching a horror movie on HBO (which I wasn’t allowed to watch).
I was dreaming that I was dreaming–my face near the side of the bed, and then BOO! Another face met mine, only an inch away–shadowy face…with red glowing eyes.

That was the last night they spent in the house. They decided to sell it, and later discovered they had built the home on the site of an old farm where some rather notorious characters lived. In the old town archives, there were reports of a couple of murder investigations there in the late 1800’s. No bodies were ever found.

I believe in unions, that being said……
The big three and the unions have greatly reduced their pay scales. They have been trying to buy people out for years, many take the buyout believe it or not. When you are hired into one of the big three now you fall under a lesser contract than those of years past, there are two tiers and the second tier tops out at about 15.00 dollars an hour, I do not believe in 40.00 dollars an hour to screw on a bumper, so contrary to some beliefs it is the fault of the unions that the automakers are in this predicament. The automakers for years have been trying to cut the wages and benefits that their workers recieve. Detroit is a SHITHOLE for a reason, the unions have made sure that their contracts have a cost of living increase, that increase bumps everything else up, from home prices to food prices, etc..Those union workers DO NOT live in Detroit, they live in the surrounding suburbs and their high pay scales and cost of living increases have contributed to the high prices in those very neighborhoods that they reside in. Detroit has NO tax base, none, their roads are horrendous and there are no tax dollars to insure their quality. Detroit is one of the biggest welfare cities in this country, it was once a booming town because of the auto industry, as jobs were cut the city went to hell and people started fleeing to the burbs. Detroit truly resembles a third world country and that is not an overstatement, 40.00 dollars an hour for unskilled labor can only last for so long, the unions and it’s members have literally priced themselves right out of jobs. The fault lies squarely on the shoulders of the union officials, their greed and high paying jobs for low skilled positions is the reason for the collapse in this once great industry. Let them fail! Allow the companies to start over and offer a good wage ( not an obscene wage )allow the company to get rid of the drug addicts that work the system that has been in place for years, in and out of rehab and collecting 95% of their pay, these practices have to end.

The current system in place needs to be purged and until such a time arises the big three will continue to need bailouts!
I still think they should just divide all this bailout money to citizens – let them pay off their house, credit cards, and buy economical cars
