Punked

What did that guy say? Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on . . . won’t get fooled again!

Wise words. To be punked once is unfortunate, to be punked TWICE (in one week even!) shows a lack of judgment. That’s me right now. I’m both embarrassed and ashamed for assuming the veracity of a story that was both explosive and almost immediately questionable. I should know better.

I am sorry to all of my readers who HAVE been victims of violence in any form. Jumping on the bandwagon like I did, with little regard for the trauma it might revive in the minds and hearts of those who really HAVE BEEN HURT was very unkind and irresponsible and insensitive.

I am also sorry to every black man who has been hurt, shamed, and diminished by this unconscionable lie. To fabricate the story of an attack is an assault by a shameless person on the compassion and good faith of everyone. To make up a story like that using the most inflammatory and racist stereotypes in our cultural skeleton closet is beyond the pale. Big scary black man (with very dark skin, natch) attacks small, defenseless, young white woman. Ugh. Who cares about my personal experience, right? But for the record, I have never in ALL MY LIFE met this “big scary black dude” who everyone claims is all over the place. All the black men I’ve ever met have been friendly, funny, indifferent, compassionate, or sad. Maybe I need to get out more, but that’s my reality.

It almost makes me want to vote for Barack Obama. Seriously. If only to say that I will never defend the actions of Ashley Todd. She does not speak for me or for any decent person.

I’m not going to do it, because my beef with Obama goes way back. Way back before this week to the primaries, the caucuses, the lies, and the fraud.

But gosh darn you Ashley Todd, you just made my job a whole lot harder. Go take a very long walk off a very short pier.

But before you do, let me thank you for reminding me why I’ve always been wary of College Republicans. Another wise person has said, “If you’re not a Democrat when you’re young then you have no soul. And if you’re not a Republican when you grow up then you have no brain.”

Silly? yes. I feel just great about being a Democrat headed into middle age, BUT the first part of that statement is absolutely true. And Ashley Todd is Exhibit A.

One Last Parting Dose of Reality Before I Go Catch Up On Email

  • Barack Obama is NOT a socialist. I mean come on! A 36% top interest rate = Unfettered Capitalism but a 39% top interest rate = Godless Socialism? Context is everything. Also, why the hell would the employees of all the financial companies have donated more money to Barack Obama than they have to any other candidate in the history of corporate people buying elections if they thought he was a socialist? Why would the current chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank, a former CEO of Goldman Freakin Sachs, have endorsed the guy if he believed he was a socialist?
  • Barack Obama is not a terrorist and he is not a Muslim. He is a shameless opportunist who saw that the path of least resistance for his ambitious rise to political power lay through the heart of Chicago. That meant Wright, Ayers, Rezko, Farrakhan, Jackson, and Daley. I find that path troubling. I believe he underestimates the pernicious and aggressive intent of fundamentalist Islam and WOULD make grave errors in his approach to the Middle East. However, that doesn’t make him a Muslim and it doesn’t make him a terrorist. It makes him a Typical Power Grabbing Politician.
Pumas, we are the good guys for a REASON. Because we don’t like cheaters, we don’t like fraud, and we hate misogyny. We stand for free and fair elections that reflect the will of the VOTERS. We fight for transparency, honesty, and integrity in our elected officials. We hold the media to a standard of decency, fairness, and investigative rigor.
This election will be over in 10 days. I’m thinking about the eleventh day. When we go to bed late on November 4th, I want to know that when I wake up on November 5th I know WHERE I am and I know WHO I am. No matter who wins.
We have a massive mountain to move, and our work begins in earnest on November 5th. The government is corrupt. The mainstream media is complicit. The corporations are a power unto themselves — sovereign, united, and extra-national.
But WE are legion and vast. WE are the people. And as long as we can communicate with each other and can depend on our leaders to be honest people of integrity we WILL prevail.
This round’s on me. Drink up. Tomorrow we go back into battle.

Gosh Murphy, talk about mood swings. It is not yet certain that the mugging story was a fraud and apologizing to everybody in sight because you MAY have been snookered is a little excessive. And about Obama being a socialist, that is semantics. We know he is a liar and a fraud. Worse in my book. Are we all going to go off the deep end because the end is near and the pressure is intense, made worse of course by the d*mn media. For god’s sake, stay focused and strong, please everybody. (By the way what do we care if some ‘has been’ guys and jealous repubs are jumping ship?)

Murphy,

This has been an emotional time for many. One, or even two, oops does not erase the million hoorays.

But an apology that includes a slam for the Republicans is like saying ‘I’m sorry I said you’re ugly, I should have kept it to myself’.

Just received for the National Republican Trust…
We Raised $1 Million in Emergency Effort to Stop Obama

We can make a huge difference.

You can help us.

Message from The National Republican Trust PAC
From Scott Wheeler
Executive Director

Dear Newsmax Reader:

We did it!

Our goal two weeks ago when we decided to launch our emergency effort to stop Barack Obama was to raise $1 million online.

As of today — and with your generous help — we hit that mark!

With the incredible support, we have been bombarding Ohio and now Florida with ads attacking Obama for his radical agenda.

Polls in Ohio show big movement for John McCain and the latest Florida polls show that race is tightening there too.

You are helping to make a difference. Your donation dollars are going to buy lots of ads.

I want you to know the National Republican Trust doesn’t spend your money on fancy offices and high priced consultants.

Almost all of our net dollars raised — after marketing costs — are going directly into our ad war against Obama.

That’s just one of the reasons we have earned the praised of pro-McCain strategists. Fox News analyst Dick Morris has praised us and said we can have a huge effect on Election day.

We want to have that effect.

We want to broaden our ad campaign to three more battleground states in just days.

Our goal now is to raise another $1 million in the next 7 days.

We can do it with your help.

To help us accomplish this goal just Go Here Now!

Just Days to Election Day — Obama Can Be Stopped

We have just days to go before Election Day . . . time is running short for us to avert a major disaster for our country. That disaster’s name is President Barack Obama.

But this disaster can be averted. I’m confident about this — even though the slanted media are overstating Obama’s inevitability.

But the numbers don’t lie.

Several polls out this week show the race is so close it’s a dead heat!

Despite the full-court press to destroy McCain and Sarah Palin, Katie Couric’s antics against her, and a daily onslaught of media spin . . . McCain is still within striking distance.

The stakes have never been higher for the future of the country.

We either patriotically turn the country over to a man who has proudly served his nation in war time and peace — or we face electing a man who has a checkered past, a man who has counted domestic terrorists among his friends, and a man who spent 15 years in a church where his pastor regularly damned and condemned the United States.

Barack Obama is not simply a risky choice as our next president — He is a dangerous one.

This is why I have taken the helm here at the National Republican Trust Political Action Committee.

Here at the National Republican Trust, we understand our mission. It’s simple. It will also drive the left-wing media nuts.

Here’s the plan: We will tell the American people the truth about Barack Obama!

Every time John McCain or Sarah Palin tries to tell the truth about Obama, they are painted as mean-spirited and negative.

We here at the National Republican Trust can do the job McCain and Palin can’t.

But we need your help. Time is urgent — it’s crunch time.

You Can Help Us — Donate Today by Going Here Now

In the closing weeks of this election, Obama is trying to remake himself as a moderate to win over lower-income, white, Democratic and independent voters.

He wants to hide the facts about his record. He is the most extreme liberal ever to be nominated by a major party.

We all know his 100 percent liberal rating in Congress, his support for the TOTAL gun ban in Washington, D.C., his opposition to protecting babies born alive, and his support for tax increases.

But there is one issue almost all Americans agree on: Illegal aliens should not be given free Social Security benefits, Medicaid and driver’s licenses.

Worse there are 12 million illegal aliens in the U.S. and Obama wants them all to get amnesty.

This massive influx of new citizens demanding more government benefits will bankrupt the United States!

We need to inform millions of Americans about this man and his risky judgment.

We are already airing our new TV ads exposing Obama’s support for Social Security, driver’s licenses and free benefits for for illegals.

But we need your help. We’re already finalizing our ad budget in key swing states. The more you can donate to us today, the more we can spend in the coming days.

And don’t forget, you can donate a maximum of $5,000. Your spouse can also make a $5,000 donation.

With $5,000 we can saturate a whole city/market in a key swing state for one whole night.

But even $1,000 helps us. With $1,000 we can run 10 TV ads in a key market.

Whatever you can give, $500, $250 or any amount, can make a huge difference.

We at the National Republican Trust PAC appreciate your support and love of our country.

We will not fail you. Too much is at stake.

Help Expose Obama’s Radical Plan — Go Here Now

Thank you again for making our effort possible.

Yours for America,

Scott Wheeler
Executive Director

P.S. The latest press reports indicate that if McCain were to hold Ohio and Florida, and win just Virginia or Pennsylvania, he will defeat Barack Obama. This isn’t a dream — it can happen. We need your help, please Donate Here Now or call our special toll free donation line at 1-866-957-1467

Is Ashley Todd a Republican?

#19 BigCatLover on 10.24.08 at 8:20 pm

TT

When did that happen? I still don’t think Murphy should have beat herself up over her reaction. An apology tonight would have restored her credibility. By the way, was the ‘victim’ an obot or a repub (nowadays it could have been either one).

#20 ck on 10.24.08 at 8:21 pm

I think I agree with #6 Big Cat Lover. Murphy, nobody’s perfect. You do such an amazing job here, we certainly forgive any rare missteps. Also, do we know for sure that Todd was not a BO plant? I’m fortunate enough not to have TV here and am having computer/internet problems today, so maybe I haven’t read the latest. I did read that Todd had said she made up the story. All I do know for sure, Murphy, is that your heart is always in the right place, and I thank you.

#21 invalidresponse on 10.24.08 at 8:21 pm

Murphy,
Give yourself a break, you can’t be perfect all the time, with all the heat that is going on in this election and all the things that were done in the primaries, the two stories that were proven wrong were not so very far fetched……just remember what happened in Denver, that story would have seemed much more unlikely…AND THAT WAS TRUE!!
CUT YOURSELF SOME SLACK……if you waited until all the new headlines were proven true to say anything about them, I might have to wonder if you were taken over by CNN……… ;)
What you have done, here in the last several months is amazing…and two “punks” isn’t a bad as an over all average!!!
YOU ROCK!! AND DON’T YOU FORGET IT !!!!

#22 deadgirlsrise on 10.24.08 at 8:21 pm

Hi Murphy, what is taking place is an amalgamation of ideologies. The financial crisis, the nationalization of our capital markets, and now they are talking about nationalizing our 401K’s. It will all be sorted out eventually, but it may be too late for America, adn we will read about it in banned books. And yes, we are on the road to a marxist state. Obama in his own words wants to level the playing field and “spread the wealth around”. That means taking from someone and giving it to someone else. That IS socialism. I do not at all agree with those few PUMA who say he is NOT a socialist.

#23 1gypsy4mc on 10.24.08 at 8:22 pm

Well, FOX news and everyone on the net had the same darn story - and because of some of the negative violence occurring, it did seem plausible about that stupid witch lying!!

Your northern neighbor Todd is supposed to be a Native American - do they have parties???

#24 Headclunker on 10.24.08 at 8:23 pm

I’m still not sure about that Pittsburg case. Victims of violence are too easily confused and intimidated. The authorities admitt they did not believe her from the start and have not released the results of her polygraph.

#25 1gypsy4mc on 10.24.08 at 8:24 pm

18 Your northern neighbor I bet my answer left you wondering what the??? I was thinking of Todd Palin. I think they said the other Todd is a Republican!!

#26 VAKatforPalin on 10.24.08 at 8:24 pm

Murphy,

You and I have never met so please don’t take this post as me telling you how you should feel, but there is the possibility (and it’s in print) that this Ashley Todd has some psychiatric problems. If she was a volunteer and heard the types of things jenni4hill has heard, it may have triggered something in her. I’m not saying that’s an excuse for what she did. What she did is wrong. Just don’t blame yourself.

#27 BigCatLover on 10.24.08 at 8:24 pm

I read the article on the attack and it said “Todd also told police she believes she cut the backward “B” onto her own cheek, but did not provide an explanation of how or why, Bryant said.” She believe she cut herself, as in she can’t remember? And why backward? Strange story.

#28 shampoovta on 10.24.08 at 8:26 pm

Oh I think we were all concerned that some one got hurt and now to fined out she lied just sucks but it is not as if we lied.

No big deal

Better than only jumping on the story when it benefited ya like Obots are doing now.

Murphy was not apologizing to Republicans , but to all of the people who were hurt by the ‘victims’ false report .
Her ’slam’ of Republicans in no way diminishes her apology to the victims.
The “victim/criminal of the worst kind’ IS a Republican .
This was a very dificult topic and Murphy is obviously feeling great pain for being sucked in by this emotionally corrupt young lady .
Now accept that Murphy bared her soul , swallowed her pride , and apologized . Leave IT and Her be.

#30 Your northern neighbor on 10.24.08 at 8:28 pm

But you raised a good question:

“While nearly two-thirds of Native Americans call themselves Democrats, 28% of those Democratic identifiers consider themselves conservative. I analyzed this apparent paradox behind the party identification of some Native Americans”

#31 slyt2 on 10.24.08 at 8:28 pm

Murphy don’t beat yourself up about it , I mean we are all rational thinking people here we don’t think somebody would go to the extreme of cutting themselves and giving themselves bruises to try and say someone did something to them. Remember Susan Smith my god she had a whole town looking for AA’s that took her children only to found out she left her children in a car and drowned them who ever would have thought that??? Is it there fault for thinking that happened NO, so this is not your fault either, a lot of people on here believed it because we have all heard of attacks on McCain supporters before not that severe but attacks like that woman and the sign..

#32 KarenWI on 10.24.08 at 8:29 pm

Not sure if I missed a reply on this… but downstairs I had asked if I’m remembering correctly or not that the exit polls on the primaries were heavily pro-Bo.. more so than the actual polls really were. Is that correct? IF SO, then perhaps the statement I’ve heard that the average of the early voting in all states is showing a +2% for Obama might be equivalent to the primary exit polls, and might REALLY mean that Mac is up? Any comments on this?

#33 KarenWI on 10.24.08 at 8:29 pm

Is it just me, or are others getting the “can’t disply webpage” when they try to post too?

#34 BigCatLover on 10.24.08 at 8:29 pm

Hey Texas, if we can’t pick on Murphy can we pick on you instead (just kidding).

#35 Grizzly on 10.24.08 at 8:30 pm

Murphy,

I agree with almost of all you had to say (except for the part about young rebublicans drinking human blood).

Assshley Todd finally admitted the whole report was a hoax, and then became indignant and blamed the media for blowing it out of proportion?????

She has done incalculable damage to victims of abuse and future victims of abuse. And to dredge up an old racial stereotype as the perpetrator is beyond loathesome.

I hope they throw the book at her. And perhaps while she sits in jail she’ll have some time to reflect on just what she has done.

She certainly did not help McCain. To the contrary, she did more to engender support for Obama than anything else.

It will probably turn out that her motives were not political. The incident conjured up as a way of getting some attention, with the political stuff thrown in after the fact (she did not tell police initially about the political angle). But her motives don’t really matter in the greater scheme of things. Incidents like this make it harder for genuine victims to be taken seriously. Make victims more reluctant to report incidents in the first place. And make it easier for perpetrators to turn the tables on the victim.

With just about 10 days left, we need to avoid the distractions like this incident and focus on the substantive issues for the case against Obama, which are many.

The API story should not exist in our minds - if it turns out that the tapes are eventually released, verified by an expert that they are authentic and have not been tampered with, and confirmed through analysis that the caller was in fact Michelle Obama - great. But that’s a lot of “if’s” to get through with little time left.

I also think the Berg case falls into that category. Berg has to get past a motion to dismiss. Then he has to conduct discovery. Then he has to analyze that discovery. Suffice it to say that he will not get a chance to conduct discovery before November 4. So, for out purposes, Berg does not exist.

Let others grasp for the straws. We have more than enough to work with.

#36 TexasTigress on 10.24.08 at 8:31 pm

BCL - You are allowed to pick on me ;)

#37 jimmythehook on 10.24.08 at 8:32 pm

Sorry guys. I am going to have to leave this blog. I have decided to vote for Barack Obama. I had serious issues with him taking a primary victory from HRC. Now I realize that the choice is between Obama and McCain, not about HRC who decided to support Obama. The reason for my change is because McCain’s Pennsylania campaign director got ahead of police and delivered talking points to the media claiming that the woman was attacked because she supported McCain before the police had fully investigated this incident. The McCain campaign should be ashamed of themselves for race-baiting and using old Jim Crow era tactics to try to sway a swing state. This crosses too many lines for me. Obama may not be as good of a candidate as HRC would have been, but at least his platform is consistent with her beliefs. I respect anyone’s decision to stay here and vote McCain, but I cannot.

I’m one of the few people on this blog who don’t have a problem with a little socialism (emphasis is on the world “little”). My problem with BO and our government in general is that it seems to intrude where it doesn’t belong and doesn’t intrude where it should.

BO is very left leaning and he does drift toward socialism of a sort. He wants to take from the rich (and even tho he denies it, from the middle class as well) and give to the poor. The middle class always gets shafted…

And we know he’s behavior during the primaries and this election has been fascist-like.

People do crazy shit for crazy reasons or no reason at all. This was reported in credible news sources as an act of violence on this young woman.

It appears she may have some issues that need to be addressed.

Remember the run away bride? She was having some real issues and I thought the authorities went a little too far on that one. Prosecuting a grown woman for making up a big story so she didn’t have to get married. But she handled what ever issues she had very immaturely.

Ashley Todd obviously has issues if she is willing to mar her face like that. I think she probably did it for attention or a cry for help, not to discredit John McCain or try to label black men as scary and violent. Sometimes sensitivity to these issues can impart a motive that is not necessarily true. She seems to me to be in mental distress to me.

ABC News’ Malone: Ashamed To Be Known As a ‘Journalist’

“…If the current polls are correct, we are about to elect as President of the United States a man who is essentially a cipher, who has left almost no paper trail, seems to have few friends (that at least will talk) and has entire years missing out of his biography. That isn’t Sen. Obama’s fault: his job is to put his best face forward. No, it is the traditional media’s fault, for it alone (unlike the alternative media) has had the resources to cover this story properly, and has systematically refused to do so.”

To answer one of your questions, the financial institutions have been democratic, why do you think the Muslims hate the Jews in the US? They control the financial institutions. Isn’t that what they state?

Obama was a member of a socialist party, The New Party. He states in a 1995 video that he basically wants to spread the wealth as he did to Joe.

There is more to Obama’s tax plan than just the 3% tax on people making over $250,000. He also wants to tax them for Social Security at 12% as stated on the O’Rielly Factor a couple of months ago. This would be over 50% tax on people making over $250,000 a year. He wants to tax oil and natural gas to get us off of it quicker. He wants to nearly double the capital gains tax, inheritant tax, etc. There are more taxes, I just can’t think of them now.

If one nutjob can make you go vote for Bozo after all the caucus fraud, police state, lies, race card bs, mysoginy, hateful bots stealing McCain signs, terrorist friends, racist preachers and switching positions according to the polls by Bozo then I say good riddance to you.

If McCain was associated with terrorists, went 20 yrs to a KKK church for political expediancy, had a biggest fundraiser of a slum lord criminal, talked shit about Hillary, and no f’ing experience to even be running for the most important job in the world then I highly doubt you’d be voting for him just b/c of one idiotic person making up 1 stupid story. Just how sure are we that Ashly Todd was a fake?

1. The authorities now state that they never did believe her.
2. The authorities state that they have more important crimes to cover.
3. She retracted her story upon interogation after a polygraph that they have not yet released the results of. Did they lie to her and intimidate her?
4. Governor Ed Rendell is an aggressive supporter of BO.

I usually don’t use Wikipedia as a source, but in this case it is pretty safe for a basic question:

“Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels used the red star as a symbol[citation needed]. It was also one of the emblems, symbols, and signals representing the Soviet Union under the rule and guidance of the Communist Party, along with the hammer and sickle. The star has since become a symbol representing socialism of all varieties.”

Of course if this assault story was true, I would have thought it was an absolutely horrible crime. Yesterday I questioned the validity because the trauma that she suffered didn’t look believable to me and I have worked in a trauma hospital for 12 years and have seen plenty of assaults.

Yesterday when I questioned the possible truthfulness of this story, many were outraged and repeated told me to f**K off. I felt like the worst person in this world and was so depressed. I have never spoken to anyone with this tone and never plan on doing so. It is so hurtful. I apologized for offending so many and I still am sorry that maybe I didn’t make my comment as clear as it could of been, but the tone that people took was very disrespectful.

Murrphy you can delete my file from this blog, but before you do, I would like to thank mick for defending me and there were a few others.

Murphy, everyone has made mistakes. We don’t know this woman was a republican, she lied about part of the story, why should we believe any of her story? …she could have even been a BO supporter trying to get sympathy votes, she could just be an individual wanting attention. Who knows? But to say you’d be willing to vote for BO after all we’ve been through is tough to take. The main thing is neither McCain, nor republicans, nor Obama, nor democrats condone the actions of this woman, so it should have no bearing or reflection on this election whatsoever (except maybe that the election is making all of us oversensitive and a little crazy). Just say, “sorry I missed it on this one” and move on. The only thing that makes you is human. The goal has not changed. It is still NO BO. not because of his race, but for what he has and/or hasn’t done done and what he stands for. I think the mentoring he got from socialists and Marxists, coupled with frequently used terminology like “share a bigger piece of your pie”, redistribute the wealth, take more from the rich and return it to the poor, is what makes many of us believe he is a socialist. And no he is not a terrorist. BUT, and this is a big but, he has close associations with admitted and unrepentant terrorists and instead of breaking those associations when he became aware of them, he defended them and their ideals. SORRY, nothing makes that OK.

Does anyone not believe Obama and his camp is capable of such things? Remember what Bill Clinton said “Obama runs a chicago style thug campaign. Hey, I receive what I’ll call the “PUMA pounce” at least once a week here. I’m still here, hang around…

#108 deadgirlsrise on 10.24.08 at 9:16 pm

As to the “victim” it was said here previously, we are trusting good people, and we had a photograph, who looks at something like that and thinks suspiciously about the victim? It is an aberration of unimaginable magnitude for someone to bruise and maim their self, so we all can be forgiven for not going there. Human nature is a twisty thing, and the range of human nature is infinite. But back to us, our kind natures and need to help others in need ~ (this is why we are centrist to left in ideology) most of us here would not imagine such a manipulative and sick thing, unless of course we worked with troubled young women who do exhibit such behaviors regularly. I have a close friend who does, and I know her first reaction, though I have not spoken with her this week, would have been to look very closely at the known facts and the “victim”, because she works with these girls who cannot live with their families or in the community because of their extremely self-destructive and manipulative behavior.

They are sent to group living situations which are staffed with experts in these types of mental illness, and who have the essential skills for dealing with these very ill young women. No one is prepared to judge a young woman as suspect and it hardens us to realize this manipulative extreme exists. I suspect this was not a republican operation, and is simply the actions of a very ill young woman.

Murphy,
You are not, nor are suvivors, responsible for the restimulation of memories of abuse, perpetrators are. I’d rather deal with painful memories than have a sanitized blog where the realities of abuse against women are never mentioned or shown.

You are a strong, consistent, conscious advocate for women.

As far as men being wrongly accused, that hurts everyone, but perhaps men should be out there educating their brothers so that violence against women ends. As a result, every accusation of violence by men against women wouldn’t be accepted as truth so readily.
Until then…

Anyhow he finally said this week that after the last debate he realizes that BO is dangerous and he will vote this time for McCain to keep BO out of office. It’s a small win, but the first time in 20 years that he agrees with me.

#120 jenniforhillary on 10.24.08 at 9:23 pm

OKAY….I left to go to work and I came back and there is INSANITY ON PUMA…

First, JIMMYTHEHOOK was NEVER NO PUMA if a poor misguided woman’s rantings would make him vote BO. He was NEVER TOO SMART EITHER.

Second, this woman may be many things–a prior victim, mentally ill, or just having a bad day–BUT WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR HER ACTIONS. UNLIKE the OBOT Campaign who IS responsible for the following:

OVERT MISOGYNY ON THEIR BLOG
CUNT T-SHIRTS AT THEIR GET TOGETHERS
STEALING SIGNS (happened at both primary and early voting here in HOUSTON TEXAS)
FRAUDULENT ILLEGAL CAUCUS VOTING
FRAUDULENT ILLEGAL ACORN ACTIVITIES
RACISM
LYING
CHEATING

LETS talk about REAL ISSUES. Let’s talk about the fact that the man that threatened to KILL ME today TWICE was black (notice I DID NOT MENTION IT EARLIER) but I have HAD IT PEOPLE!! HAD IT–STOP APOLOGIZING and let’s ORGANIZE to defeat these people…

Violence against women is the BIGGEST reason for women going to the hospital AND DYING, and the MOST UNSAFE PLACE FOR A WOMAN IS IN HER HOME (according to the Amercian Medical Association). Let’s not discuss one poor woman’s case to such an extent that it clouds the REAL ISSUE…

WHICH IS WE MUST DEFEAT THE DONC AND OBAMA….

I do NOT believe Bozo on anything. He has lied on every single thing that has come out of his mouth. His quest for power and his ego of he’s the savior of our country makes me distrust him more than any politican on the face of the earth. I do not trust him that he will keep his word on anything b/c he has not kept his word his entire career. His record is totally opposite of his rhetoric. He’s the epitomy of the corrupt politician. That is why he claims he’s for the middle class yet his biggest supporters are investment banks and other greedy, rich people. The Dems nor several Repubs do not want McCain as President since he will cut all the bs spending, no earmarks, and he will expose the corrupt ones by naming their names and he will work on cleaning up our government by making it smaller, not bigger. No more freebies for the corrupt losers so of course they’re going to support Bozo.

If you believe Bozo will come through for the middle class, protect our national security above all else, and follow through on health care then I have some ocean front property in Oklahoma to sell you.

Bozo could give a crap less about you or this country. All he and MO want is the power, the status, and the legacy. There’s a reason the media, Bill Ayers and other unsavory people are supporting Bozo in full force. There’s a reason McCain/Palin are facing so much resistance.

Losing sight of all this just because of some nut job making up a story is terrible. I believe there’s a reason the Bozo media jumped on this story when they ignore everything else that negatively affects his campaign.

#124 PumaDuma on 10.24.08 at 9:25 pm

Murphy, please don’t forget, you’re a beautiful person for all you have done. Galvanizing a coalition of like minded individuals giving them a central location for the exchange of ideas. Mobilizing direction, providing instant contact and most of all presenting a UNITED FRONT for disaffected democrats.

These accomplishments alone are nothing to sneeze at..

It takes a really BIG person to admit their mistakes and do it publicly as you have done. In my eyes, you’ve grown head and shoulder over your peers…who blab, but never take the risk…who advise but never speak out on their own taking that risk..

Everyone makes mistakes, you’re human like the rest of us. By tomorrow all will be forgotten and you will go on being that Murphy we all Love and are proud to know…

Forget today and look to tomorrow..no need to feel guilty you didn’t LIE.. you felt outrage and just maybe that helped get rid of some pent up frustration…
so be it!

“Tomorrow is another day!”… Be There for US!

Without you, most of us here would have been lost in our little hells after we witnessed the systematic and coordinated brutal take-down of Hillary Rodham Clinton.

I truly was deeply depressed at her treatment, and the dirty slimy political gamesmanship and the complicit media and in those early days in June I found you. Seeing people posting on NY Times and YouTube, who witnessed what I witnessed and they included in their posts the words PUMA and PUMA PAC (before those PUMA posts were censored) sent me googling PUMA PAC and that brought me directly here to you, and I literally came back to life. I was not alone in wanting to fight. And we kept coming, from all walks of life we arrived as the days went on and we were a movement of PUMA working together.

This movement will continue to grow and we have a mission, and it is harder and bigger than we thought at first. America has a really big problem on its hands. Lets stay strong, fight hard, get up when we fall down, and get back in it to win. Do not be discouraged.

Now I have to go back to the dr again monday morning to have the heart situation checked again for a final decision regarding the scheduled thursday surgery…. so everything pretty much went “on hold” right now due to a sudden change in health… thanks for asking though!

#91 Gina,

It is always important to get a professional opinion and most bloggers don’t have your expertise. Abuse of women is a highly charged subject and some of the responses were probably coming from a deep level of fear and anger, misdirected at you.

PUMA remains a significant and NECESSARY response to the divisiveness of this campaign. Like Murphy mentions, my work in adult education involves a lot of interaction with AA men, both as students and as colleagues. So I am puzzled by this young woman’s actions and allegations, just like I’m puzzled by threats of riots, by Sandra Bernhardt’s comments, and by the Terry Tate video. This election really has been a scar on the national psyche and we’re all feeling it.

gina613 — I meant to apologize to you personally since I came down on you like gangbusters last night, and I’m sorry for not doing so

but this is sad.

Folks, I’m sorry to disappoint you if I am doing so, but I’m a Democrat.

I hate racism. I hate it almost as much as I hate sexism and homophobia.

John McCain is a REPUBLICAN. So is Sarah Palin. They are power-hungry politicians climbing the ladder. No better or worse than Obama.

MAYBE, and I mean MAYBE john mccain is the maverick he says he is, one who will “take on corporate interests” and yada yada yada, and gullible as I am to the claims of unknown people I am smart enough to know that McCain is a Republican politician, SO

IF MCCAin turns out to be the MAVERICK he wants us to believe he is, then YAHOO — I will feel safer and happier to be an American.
BUT, if he turns out to be a typical partisan politician I wont be surprised.

I won’t vote for Obama. because he stole the primaries, he cheated, and he’s a fraud.

but that doesn’t mean I renounce the platform of the Democratic Party.

Far from it. I want to make that platform the law of the land.

equal rights. universal health care. relief for the working and middle class.

We MUST remained focused and not get derailed as negative forces would like to reduce us to our knees. This has been the ONE place I can come for sanity, unity and respect of one another. We have not lost that, we must suck it up and drive on.

gina - i see no reason why you owe any apologies at all. your post was perfectly reasonable. it is regretable that the ensuing response(s) caused you so much grief. that is a real shame and something no one needs. i truly hope you’ll stay. the blog is full of many people, each with their own personality and triggers. i’m sending a huge embrace to you. to my mind, there was nothing you wrote that was offensive. i didn’t read your post until mick re-posted it today and i was stunned to see what a perfectly reasonable thought you shared given the whoopla that ensued. i understand how awful it feels to feel like another person slams you out of the blue in a way that feels overblown or unjustified. it’s a level of rudeness that i also have rarely experienced in my life until a few encounters on this blog. i hope you will settle down and see the bigger picture of what pumapac is about and how many are embracing your presence.

Murphy, I can’t vouch for McCain, but I know his record. There is a reason why so many republicans were upset when he won the primary- and that reason is that he IS a “maverick” and not loyal to the republican party. He, more than any other senator, has a record of multiple situations of reaching across the aisle to make compromises and get something done. If he DOESN’T accomplish the same thing as POTUS, then it’s because the democrat congress digs in it’s heels and refuses to work with someone who they always worked with easily before (when he was a senator)- which would probably be just out of spite for him taking the election away from BO.

He’s having me stop both blood pressure pills I’m taking and see what happens on monday. New AOL straw poll is up. Lookin’ good so far.

#151 Henerietta on 10.24.08 at 9:40 pm

Look, fellow PUMAs, we got carried away. It happens. At least we didn’t bash a person until the facts were known. Look at the way the msm bashes Palin for every thing she does, or cititcizes her for everything they think she thought or might have thought, or how she dresses, worships, etc. After all, we were trying to be supportive and compassionate to someone who said they had been assaulted. In a way, we erred on the side of compassion. So what if we bashed Obama on the way? Does he deserve the bennefit of the doubt? His people have committed many things that would lead us to believe this kind of thing possible.

Yes, most of us over reacted. But Jimmy, if you really understood what we disliked about Obama and had agreed with it, this would just be looked upon as a mistake, nothing more. Some soul searching and patriotic thoughts might help your brain once in a while, little brother. At least you tried this blog, and maybe you learned something. If you are who I think you are, write me off blog occasionally.

#147sharpclaws…what is it saying????

#153 Grizzly on 10.24.08 at 9:41 pm

Just a point of clarification - I don’t know where jimmy the hook got his info, but it is wrong.

Ashley Todd was working with the Young Republicans, who were in Pittsburgh per a deal they had with the Republican National Committee. The McCain Campaign never issued any “talking points”. All The McCain camp did was offer their sympathy.

It was the Young Republicans that jumped out in front of this and took a position that this was the real deal. Not McCain’s campaign manager in PA.

Furthermore, Ms Todd was working on temporary assignment there. As best as anyone can tell, not sure if she was or was not a Republican - she appears to have been a big Ron Paul backer: http://74.125.45.104/search?q=cache:dNPAoAhExjwJ:profile.myspace.com/index.cfm%3Ffuseaction%3Duser.viewprofile%26friendID%3D8513159+www.myspace.com/rabbitrocker&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=us&client=firefox-a

If “the hook’s” logic is applied to Obama, then Obama is personally responsible for every single bogus registration and vote produced by ACORN. Logic, however, never entered into his or her thought process. Once an Obot always an Obot.

#154 Jeremy on 10.24.08 at 9:41 pm

Post #37(Jimmythehook) was intended and likely a planned action-reaction to the evolution of Ms. Todd’s experience yesterday. Murphy, I was PUNKED on post #37 last night. I read and reacted. After re-education, I retracted and asked for the post to be removed. It was false and another lesson learned. We are intelligent humans with in born reflexes. The purpose of reflexes are to protect us and to inform quickly… bypassing critical thinking at that time. Murphy, you did nothing that you were not designed to do…you had a reflex moment. Murphy: Head PUMA please lead on.

#157 mini vee on 10.24.08 at 9:42 pm

Hmmm, I usually drop by here whenever I have something to share…but as I’m reading this thread and the posts with my jaw dropped. First of all, regarding this young woman who made up this story. There are people out there that desperately seek attention and want their 15 minutes of fame. If she were a Dem, would we be jumping for joy, in finding out it was a hoax? No. She’s not mentally well, period. It’s like the woman who accused the Duke Lacrosse players of an atrocious crime. In the end, did she ever apologized for what she did or explain why she did it? NO. That woman isn’t well either. Women like these exist and things like this happen. Because we’re so wrapped up in this election and the vileness of it, we are not seeing will have to explain herself eventually.

With that said, please allow me to share something I read today. Despite the bickering and the temper flare ups, PUMAs do matter.

A recent AP poll screamed trouble for Barack Obama.

It reported his base support to be just 80%. If this is accurate, and that is a very big IF, he can not win.

Last June when former Hillary Clinton supporters were asked, 58% supported Obama. But the same survey also showed 21% voting for John McCain. A follow-up survey of the very same people showed support for McCain had grown to 28% while remaining stagnant at 58% for Obama. The undecideds seem to be moving to McCain.

These numbers have been swept under the rug by the media, but they are still very important.

During the Democratic primaries, exit polls showed a consistent core of 20% that would not be voting for Obama in the general election.

Whether Rush Limbaugh’s Operation Chaos can be blamed for this distressing news for Obama can be debated, but it doesn’t completely explain away the numbers in the face of subsequent polls showing the same results.

If Obama is getting just 80% of Democrat support he is in trouble. A base support this low can not be overcome and will not get Obama elected. Almost all polls of rank and file Democrats have shown Obama’s base support in the eighties and mid seventies.

In 2000 Al Gore got 92% and lost. In 2004 John Kerry got 89% and lost by a clear margin.

There would have to be a huge difference in party identification to pull Obama through with just 80% of his base. The reported split among Independents doesn’t help either.

A September AP poll of Democratic and Independent likely voters showed that 1/3 hold negative views of Blacks. The same surveyed showed that 40% of all Americans have negative views toward Blacks. Is it that hard to believe the 80% support level?

The base support numbers tell the story. If they are real, this will be a tough night for the Democrat’s candidate. Additional fresh information reveals that the TIPPs poll has Obama with an 86 percent base support, but the 11.6% undecided number makes that suspect.

dances - before i shut down for the night i gotta say: you can be a very intimidating personality on this blog. you have stated on more than one ocassion your doubt of another person’s dedication or commitment if one incident causes them to leave. i’m going to write with as much boldness as you do by saying that people are unique and complex and i see no reason to question the dedication of another because they have a different set of standards regarding what they find acceptable in terms of the culture in which they want to live, so to speak, in terms of the tenor of the blog. a person doesn’t need to participate in this blog in order to take action. staying or leaving this place is no indication at all about another person’s level of dedication, it’s just a reflection of where they feel comfortable.

at times, this blog takes on the feeling of a popularity contest and in my view, you get away with some farily outrageous ways of speaking to others that, if it came from someone else, would not be tolerated.

perhaps you underestimate the power of your words, or more accurately, the force with which they are spewed at times. it feels like an assault.

there, i’ve set it.

good night all.

Obama Receives Coveted Iranian Endorsement

Rick Moran
Barack Obama today received the blessing from one of the more important nutcases i n the Iranian government.

Via Powerline:

Iranian parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said Wednesday that Iran would prefer Democrat Barack Obama in the White House next year. Larijani also dismissed any idea that the US would attack Iran.

Im of the opinion that “the so-called platform” is what they use to keep us attached at the hip after we grow up.

I am not voting for Obama because he has no experience to run this country. He is the least qualified of all those running for president. He also is a liar and a cheat and he has shown us the ugly side of the democratic party. We went to bed married and woke up in a nightmare of betrayal, every sexist, racist punch Hillary took,I took also. I am a woman scorned and abused by her party,no longer necessary or wanted. I changed the diapers, I washed the dishes,I taxied the kids, and I ironed the damn shirts.

NO WAY NO HOW NO OBAMA EVER!!

Even friends I have known my entire life - people who I KNOW their morals and their ideals and intellects seem to be incapable of accepting that Obama is anything less than their savior ! it has cost me some dear friendships - there is no amount of proof that will sway them once they are under that spell , and unless it is on CNN or MSNBC , it might as well have never happened … I feel your pain with that BOT , and I know , that , in the end , the only thing we really have controll of is how we pull the lever . Until then , though - we keep at ‘em !!!

1gypsy4mc- I broke my nose twice in the past and have a badly deviated septum in my nose. I’m living on sudafed pills to breathe. It’s a surgery to correct the deviated septum. It’s major surgery with general aneasthesia, but outpatient. IF it’s done the surgeon said I’d have to sleep in a recliner overnight, and then have a bending/lifting restriction for 2 weeks.

What happened was I begged my dr for a prescription for sudafed because the government doesn’t allow me to get enough, LOL. Instead he sent me to a ENT who told me about the septum.

#169 Henerietta on 10.24.08 at 9:47 pm

I have watched McCain for years. His republican buddies in the Senate have called him Democrat lite a number of times. He is not flamboyant, nor is he extreme on many things. He is a good solid reasoning legislator.

As far as all of the fight about health care and tax policy goes: The president suggests, the legislature passes the bills. NEITHER HEALTH CARE INTIATIVE (Obama or McCain) WILL PASS! Keep this in mind. let me say it again, LOUDLY: N E I T H E R HEALTH CARE INITATIVE WILL PASS!

The same is true about tax policy. THE LEGISLATURE SETS THE AGENDA FOR TAXATION. If the congress is opposed to the president, COMPROMISE IS NECESSARY FOR ANY LEGISLATION OR INITATIVE TO PASS!

What we really need is a president of one party and a congress of another. The reason so many bad things were passed during the Bush years is that they congress let Bush tell them what to do!
