What’s John McCain playing at? His unpredicted announcement of a Homeownership Resurgence Plan caught pundits on both the left AND the right by surprise. The left pretended to yawn while the right threatened to blow a gasket. Well, none of THAT is surprising. What’s curious to me is WHY did McCain drop such an unexpected policy initiative on voters last night? Seems like a pretty big gamble this late in the game. My hunch is that McCain is betting Republicans are NOT going to bolt the party and vote for Obama at this point. Seems a pretty safe bet to me. Republicans may not love McCain, but can you imagine ANY of your Republican friends voting for That One?
Didn’t think so. If it were Hillary he were facing, McCain might not be so willing to risk his base’s ire. But alas, it is a man McCain faces in November. (No indulging in “what might have been,” Folks — them days is over.) And, of course, the committed Obama voters are NEVER going to vote for McCain. NEVER. Not even if Larry Sinclair, Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, and Louis Farrakhan himself all host a joint press conference in the nude and regale the public with tales of drunken and drugged bestiality involving Barack Obama, a donkey, and a very lonely Acorn. And then burn a flag and make fun of how gullible intellectual white people are.
Ahem. Anyway — I think McCain is risking the Choir by preaching to the Heathens (that’s us, Folks. Us Heathen Racist Pumas!). He’s taking his base for granted and conceding the voters of Obama Nation. The question is, will it work?
I’m not sure. I was admittedly intrigued by the idea of a $5,000 health insurance credit (would help my family a LOT) since I know Obama is as committed to UHC as I am to abstinence only sex ed and I also know that the economic landscape of the next four years will make it pretty much impossible for real UHC to pass. So $5 grand a year until 2012 to cut down on our health insurance costs? Hmmm. And now add in an apparently sincere and far-reaching plan to include the working class in the COLOSSAL BILLIONAIREs’ BAILOUT of 2008?
I’m intrigued. As a Puma with no candidate in the race, watching this game play out from the sidelines has at least some benefits. What do you all think?

I can relate – I had 10 yrs clean – relapsed but this month I am celebrating 9 yrs again! woohoo (hi five).
I too find it hard to remain powerless without feeling frustrated. I find that if I just do the BEST I can do with what I believe, I have to leave the results up to my HP.
Sometimes I do not feel comfortable with that, but what is the alternative, driving myself crazy over something I have NO control over.

ACORN’s voter registrations questioned

HARTFORD — The State Elections Enforcement Commission has opened an investigation into allegations that a community activist organization submitted at least 10 false voter-registration cards in Bridgeport.
One of the phony registrations was for a 7-year-old girl in the Marina Village housing complex, whose age was listed as 27 on the voter card.
Another registration came from a man who later said he couldn’t have completed the voter card purported to be his because he was in jail on the date of the document.
Joseph J. Borges, the city’s Republican registrar of voters, filed the complaint with state officials after months of local complaints on the tactics that ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, was regularly filing applications that were ruled ineligible.

The question is this, do you think the US taxpayers are willing to pay at least 60% in taxes to have universal healthcare? Are the American people willing to pay $7.50/gallon for gas to get universal healthcare? This is the problem with people who wanted to have universal healthcare, majority don’t want to pay very high taxes. Universal healthcare is NOT free and will NEVER be free; to have it, you must be to partake more than have of your income to taxes.
With the kind of economy we have, global market is in crisis, universal healthcare at this point in time for USA is a pipedream. The plan of McCain is more viable compared to universal healthcare. We also have millions of problem with illegal immigrants living here in USA, that in itself is exhausting state budgets like California. Even if Hillary right now is the one running for President, she cannot get universal healthcare; that requires billions of dollars, that requires increase taxation for everyone including taxes in gas at the pump.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting tonight that a brand new poll shows Obama’s lead in Michigan has dropped to just 5%.
Just a week ago some polls showed Obama with a 13% lead over McCain in the Great Lake State (where 17 Electoral Votes are up for grabs).

How close is this plan to a similar one offerred in an OP Ed piece in ;the Wall Street Journal by Hillary Clinton not too long before the bailout bill passed and I think, I may be wrong, noted here. I will need to go find the piece and compare. Or if you can find it, perhaps you could read it as well.
I think his idea is a great idea. Instead of the Treasury Seceretary maybe doing something in this area, he is asserting something will be done. I see no reason why traditional Republicans(equivalent to trad Dems, in that they are not from the extrememe right, as we are not from the extreme left, ala Obimbo) should have little problem with this and traditional Dems should like it.

My previous post was in the misperception that voters thought McCain’s proposal last night was in addition to the Bailout. But his actual proposal, which I will post shortly, says it should be included in the $750 mil.
Most people don’t realize it, but if most of those homes aren’t save from foreclosure, the sale prices of all homes in those areas will decline sharply, if they haven’t already. Then the homes are left vacant, because no buyer can get a mortgage. Then the whole neighborhood declines.
McCain/Hillary’s plan would be a stop-gap to this problem.

AMERICAN HOMEOWNERSHIP RESURGENCE PLAN
John McCain will direct his Treasury Secretary to implement an American Homeownership Resurgence Plan (McCain Resurgence Plan) to keep families in their homes, avoid foreclosures, save failing neighborhoods, stabilize the housing market and attack the roots of our financial crisis. America’s families are bearing a heavy burden from falling housing prices, mortgage delinquencies, foreclosures, and a weak economy. It is important that those families who have worked hard enough to finance homeownership not have that dream crushed under the weight of the wrong mortgage. The existing debts are too large compared to the value of housing. For those that cannot make payments, mortgages must be re-structured to put losses on the books and put homeowners in manageable mortgages. Lenders in these cases must recognize the loss that they’ve already suffered.
The McCain Resurgence Plan would purchase mortgages directly from homeowners and mortgage servicers, and replace them with manageable, fixed-rate mortgages that will keep families in their homes. By purchasing the existing, failing mortgages the McCain resurgence plan will eliminate uncertainty over defaults, support the value of mortgage-backed derivatives and alleviate risks that are freezing financial markets.
The McCain resurgence plan would be available to mortgage holders that:
Live in the home (primary residence only)
Can prove their creditworthiness at the time of the original loan (no falsifications and provided a down payment).
The new mortgage would be an FHA-guaranteed fixed-rate mortgage at terms manageable for the homeowner. The direct cost of this plan would be roughly $300 billion because the purchase of mortgages would relieve homeowners of “negative equity” in some homes. Funds provided by Congress in recent financial market stabilization bill can be used for this purpose; indeed by stabilizing mortgages it will likely be possible to avoid some purposes previously assumed needed in that bill.
The plan could be implemented quickly as a result of the authorities provided in the stabilization bill, the recent housing bill, and the U.S. government’s conservatorship of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. It may be necessary for Congress to raise the overall borrowing limit.

My daughter works in a UAW auto factory and yesterday the union president was passing out nobama buttons he offered her one and she said no thanks, he said you do know that we support Obama she said yes but I am not voting for him he said you can’t be serious if you vote for McCain he will take away our unions he is non union , to which she replied I didn’t say WHO I was voting for , just I am not voting for Obama and she said there was a AA man standing there who wears his race on his sleeve and he said Oh I see, she said what do you see, he said because he is black, and she said the last time I checked I own my vote and it is none of your business who I choose to vote for including you ‘Mr. president’, the AA said well I think it is clear why you are not voting for Obama and she said Okay I am not voting for Obama because his wife is ‘butt ugly’ and if you are referring to anything else we can make a trip to the front office, and they both walked away. I asked her how the president could tell them not to vote for McCain because he would dissolve the unions she said mom they have signs all over the plant with that printed on them.

PREPARE YOURSELF BEFORE DISTRIBUTING FLYERS
Distributing Flyers in the Community:
One of the best ways to get to know your community and the small business people, is to distribute your flyers at stores, restaurants, convenience stores, laundromats, bars, etc.
Distributing Flyers in the Streets:
One of the easiest ways to “get your feet wet” is distributing flyers at events, parades, etc., interacting with the public in a non threatening way. This is by no means easy but you know the adage, blood, sweat and tears will apply. If you are shy, there are many other ways that don’t require face to face interaction.
Do not waste your time engaging Obots. You will not get anywhere. Focus on why you are doing this
If you do it with confidence, no one will question you – normally.
Rule One: Never distribute flyers alone. Always go in pairs. This is for safety, and for practical reasons.
Rule Two: Blend in with the community in your appearance and demeanor. If the community you are targeting is a college campus, send your young, college age members, dressed accordingly. If the community is working class, don’t wear a suit. Be clean, friendly, non confrontational, and smile like you’re having fun!
Rule Three: Position yourself to hand out the maximum number of flyers with a minimum of disturbance. Don’t block sidewalks, stay to the side. Hold the flyer out, let folks take it. NEVER press flyers on anyone. If someone doesn’t want a flyer, refuses it or hands it back, no problem. Smile but don’t slow down nor get in a conversation, just continue handing out flyers.
Rule Four: Repeat! Don’t argue, don’t discuss, don’t explain and don’t turn around and go back. Hand out flyers. If engaged in conversation, you can’t hand out flyers
Rule Five: Know your 1st Amendment rights & exercise them. You have the right to hand out flyers on any public sidewalk, park, or right of way. You do not have to obtain any kind of permit to do so. However, you need to decide in advance, what action(s) you want to take if confronted by the police. Unless you are breaking the law, no one is going to arrest you for handing out flyers.

This happened to my niece in FL, sheriffs dept came to her home that she was renting to give 30days to move out. The owner had been collecting her rent check but not paying the mortgage. She went to the courthouse about the eviction. All said and done, the courts are allowing her to now live there rent free until the bank forecloses. Bank told her, she had about a year since they are so back logged in FL.

Fairfax County elections staff visited jail to register inmates

Inmates at the Fairfax County jail were encouraged to register and vote last week by elections officials making what the county’s sheriff called the first visit of its kind in his 30 years with the county.
That voter turnout effort is now being defended by county officials, but blasted by Republicans who called it an attempt to influence what could be a close presidential election in the commonwealth.
Both Fairfax County General Registrar Rokey Suleman and Sheriff Stan Barry deny any wrongdoing in the decision that granted Office of Elections on-site access to the Adult Detention Center in downtown Fairfax. Barry did, however, say it was unprecedented in his 30-year career with the county.
“We’d never run into it before, honestly,” Barry said. “They contacted us last week and we were not willing to take any role in it, but basically they were just asking for access to the prisoners who were eligible to vote, and we gave them that.”
The visit came as presidential campaigns were making feverish attempts to sign up voters ahead of the Oct. 6 deadline. The state is considered critical to the White House aspirations of Barack Obama and John McCain.
Felons are not eligible to vote in Virginia without having their rights restored by the governor. Suleman said his office, at the request of criminal defense attorneys who approached his staff, delivered registration forms and absentee ballots to inmates with misdemeanor convictions and those awaiting felony trials.
Suleman, who is listed as a founder of the Trumbull County (Ohio) Young Democrats, ran for office in the Buckeye State as a Democrat earlier this year. He said the office he holds in Virginia is nonpartisan.
Barry, an elected Democrat, said an initial visit took place Wednesday, and again on Friday to pick up completed forms.
Republicans likened the visit to Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine’s drive to restore voting rights to non-violent felons, who are believed to vote disproportionately Democratic.
“I’m stunned and outraged,” said Fairfax County Republican Committee Chairman Jim Hyland. “To me it’s unbelievable that the Democrats are stooping to this, that they want to count on lawbreakers to try and switch this state from red to blue.”
He said the committee is “going to look at all of our legal options, whether this was in the bounds of the law.”
Said Fairfax County Supervisor Michael Frey, a Republican: “Given the budget, and how tight staff is, it does sort of smell that the place they’re going for on-site visits in the Fairfax County jail.”
Suleman said his office will help register voters anywhere an on-site visit is requested. He said his staff picked up about 20 registration forms on Friday, and that he didn’t know the names of the lawyers who contacted his staff.
“As soon as I got wind of it I said ‘OK, let’s make sure we get these guys registered to avoid any other legal headaches [of] being carted in to court to register people,’” Suleman said.

I’ve worked around construction sites… She would need to follow the sump truck and run in and post the flyer before anyone used it… Trust me those places are NAAAAASTY.
I sold new homes and before the models homes were done being built, we would have to use a Port-a-Potty. We would put a sturdy lock on ours and the construction workers would break the lock off to use ours cause we kept it clean.. again… yuckky!
It would be easier to hand out the flyers by stopping by at lunch or break when they are all gathered around the Lunch truck (Roach Coach).
One suggestion would be to bring english/spanish flyers and hand those out. Here in CA alot of our construction workers are hispanic.
Regarding flyer placement
In stores like Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc. you can find little hangers that usually hold product information empty – a lot. I’ve stuck them in the paint departments. Those seem to be empty the most.

a $5,000 health insurance credit
This is for the wealthy. For those of us who cannot afford insurance 0-$5000=0.
How many times did Obama say “children” when he was talking about health insurance last night? A bunch. Those of us without young families are not on his radar. But I will be on his radar when it comes time to look for the taxes to pay for the program.

This ’suggestion’ is very doable. If McCain is elected, he will be in charge of treasury, which will be in charge of ‘the program’. He can decide how he will manage the buyout/bailout. If the redoing/resetting of mortgage balances will help put everyone, big and little, in the black, that would be something most people can accept, even the ‘free market’ closed minds. The bail out is already a reality, So why not use it to help a broader spectrum?
I hope it gains traction. Obama is not smart enough to think this one up!

I would be happy if McCain’s $5,000 insurance plan could be used a subsidy to the employer on behalf of the employee. This would be temporary, I am sure, but it could make a real difference.
I am convinced that none of their plans, not even Hillary’s will work. As long as we have pay per service our medical bills will continue to rise higher than the average rate of inflation.
We need a public service program, staffed and run by a civilian medical corps modeled after the Armed Services Medical Corps. Everyone on a salary, every citizen covered. It would take more than 25 years to have it all in place, but once fully functioning, it would cost us less than 1/4 of of what our current system would cost.

Henrietta: When I was a child we had a great Public Health Department that sent nurses to all schools, not just public to give inoculations and other services. This Public Health Service Model was done in by Medicaid versions as the years went on. A Public Health Nurse used to be someone looked up to by all classes of people where I lived, actually.

I’ve posted before on this topic and maybe you missed my explanations — but it is typical of BO to claim a lead in the polls since he relies on perception of the voters to help him win. I agree with you about the polls. It dawned on me recently that the pollsters such as Rasputin and Gallup are reflecting a covert sexism against Sarah Palin. They know that the Obot campaign cannot show sexism towards Palin with the risk of getting women angry. So, what are they doing? They are deliberately oversampling Democrats to make it “look” like Obie is ahead. This also makes it “look” like Palin has no affect on the Republican party. We all know that is poppycock. She is drawing thousands upon thousands of people to these rallies. Everyone that I talk to LOVES her regardless if they agree with all of her policies. The media, pollsters who are in the tank for BO, and the BO campaign are scared to death of Palin. Just yesterday, Joe Scarborough said on his show that his parents went to one of the rallies in Florida. They had been to other Presidential rallies in this location, and they had never seen such a big crowd as yesterday. They said it was DOUBLE in size – AND it was raining. They said that speaks volumes for older people to come out in the rain to see Palin.
This polling bias is covert sexism. However, it will have to stop soon, because some pollsters such as Zogby are starting to show the “real” polling numbers. They won’t want to look as outliers, so they will have to start reporting the more accurate poll numbers soon.

Rush Limbaugh talked about Carville stating that on CNN last night after the debate. He said something like “if BO is ahead in the polls by 5% and he doesn’t win, then there will be riots in the streets” or something like that. Rush pointed out that the only people who are bringing up race is the Democrats. He also made a good point in that is this how the Democrats view AAs? They are only good for Rodney King type rioting? In the VP debate and last night’s debate, the candidates were asked about putting troops on the ground in Darfur, Sudan, Africa. It sounded like Sen. Obama is considering it. Is a draft next on the list of presidential considerations? One of the 10 tenets of the church he attended for 20 years is an unyielding committment to Africa. I thought everyone had had enough of putting our troops in areas where they were not wanted and that we wanted to bring them home. I hope Code Pink was listening. We can’t afford to go into Pakistan and Sudan.

IBD Series: After The Rescue: Challenges Ahead

How many times have you been told by soaring, almost hypnotic oratory that “the direct causes of our financial crisis and subprime real estate loan mess were the greedy banks, big corporations and the failed economic policies of George Bush”?
It’s common to blame the one in power. This time, however, it’s 100% wrong.
Every American, young or old, must be told who was really behind the subprime loan disaster that threw our economy off track and injured the good people who lost their homes — like those now boarded up in Cleveland and other major cities — plus the millions of other citizens hurt by yet another failed Big Government-run program gone awry.
In 1977, Jimmy Carter and a Democrat Congress created the Community Reinvestment Act mandating that banks make more housing loans to lower-income and inner-city borrowers. It was for a well-intended social cause and even appeared to work in the 1980s.

But in 1995, President Clinton imposed even tougher regulations that forced banks to make dramatically more subprime loans to previously unqualified people with lower credit scores in higher-risk areas.
Government regulators rated banks by how well they performed in meeting these strict new CRA obligations. Failure to comply meant stiff penalties and limits on mergers, acquisitions and expansion.
Big Government forced the lowering of long-proven safe-lending standards. Most of the more than $1 trillion of new subprime CRA loans had adjustable rates. Many required no documentation of the borrower’s income and little or no down payment.
For the first time, the Clinton regulatory rules allowed and encouraged lenders to bundle the new, riskier subprime loans with prime loans and sell these packages to other institutions. The first one hit the market in 1997. That tragic blunder let loan originators make their profits faster and eliminate any future risk for those lower-quality loans. It let them turn around and make even more CRA-type loans and sell them off in packages again, with little future risk.
It was a government-sponsored pyramid scheme, with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac providing the implied government backing by buying ever larger amounts of these risky subprimes.
Freddie and Fannie also became heavy donors to top members of Congress. These included Sen. Chris Dodd, a young Sen. Barack Obama and Rep. Barney Frank, who aggressively defended the highly leveraged, extremely risky lending against any reforms.
Ironically, the Bush administration repeatedly went to Congress in 2004, 2005 and 2006 to obtain stronger oversight and some limits on Freddie and Fannie’s reckless subprime lending. And each time, it was voted down by Democrats in Congress, led by Frank, now chairman of the Financial Services Committee.
Bottom line: This whole mess was another Big Government program created, designed and run by Democrats. It started with great intentions but resulted in typically awful unintended consequences that materially hurt the very people they were supposed to help.
Worse, this incompetence put our financial system in jeopardy. It’s reminiscent of LBJ’s two lost wars — the War in Vietnam and the War on Poverty.
Many government housing projects, though well-intended as part of LBJ’s War on Poverty, later deteriorated into slums that became recruiting grounds to get very young new gang members.
That’s how we got into this financial mess — and why the $700 billion rescue package was passed. But what about the future? What serious threats does America face in the next five years? The list isn’t comforting:
• Iran’s Ahmadinejad and his mullah bosses, the leading terrorist country in the world that will have nukes, and want to wipe out Israel and have a world with no USA.
• Al-Qaida and other radical Islamic global terrorists that want to strike us again.
• Putin’s resurgent Russia, which desires to take back Georgia and Ukraine, plus give nuclear capabilities to Venezuela and re-arm Cuba and Nicaragua.
• Communist China’s increasing military capabilities.
• Foolish decisions that would result in weakening our ability to defend ourselves.
Let’s study the “History Repeats Itself” chart of our Nasdaq index from 1992 to October 2008 and how it has remarkably copied in parallel the Dow Jones industrials, pricewise, from the early 1920s up to the beginning of 1938. One reason for this is that while technology changes over time, human nature doesn’t.
Hope and fear, good and bad, and other basic drives are always with us. The market is human psychology on display, and history continually repeats itself.
If our Nasdaq market continues to replicate the 1938 to 1942 market, as it did the prior 16 years, what may be in store for us? What happened in 1938 and 1939 and the early 1930s leading up to ‘38? What vital lesson does knowing history tell us?
To begin with, Germany’s Nazi party in 1928 won only 810,000 votes nationally, elected only 12 to the Reichstag and was considered sort of a joke. But the 1929 crash started the Depression, with unemployment soaring and poverty hitting hard, even among the formerly prosperous middle class.
In 1930, the bad economy helped the Nazi party get 6.5 million votes nationally and put 107 deputies in the Reichstag, becoming the second-largest party. By 1933, again due to a poor economy, Hitler became Germany’s chancellor. His storm troopers, Hitler Youth and Goebbels’ propaganda departments grew rapidly.
In 1935, Hitler announced a draft to build the national army to 500,000. An air force was already in place in violation of the Versailles Treaty. France and England protested but did nothing.
Hitler said he wanted peace and people believed him. But in 1936 he marched into the Rhineland. France did nothing; Hitler said he had no further territorial demands in Europe.
In 1937, he intimidated Austria and took it over. Only Britain’s Neville Chamberlain and France protested. Jewish people were sent to concentration camps or extermination centers. Now we’re up to the equivalent of 1938 on our Nasdaq chart — where we are today.
Hitler stirs up demonstrations in Czechoslovakia’s Sudetenland, claiming ethnic Germans are being persecuted. Britain’s Neville Chamberlain visits Hitler in September 1938. Hitler wants Britain and France to let Germany take the part of Czechoslovakia with a German population.
Chamberlain gives in to Hitler’s demands; the Munich Agreement gives Hitler Czechoslovakia’s Sudetenland. Chamberlain returns to London in triumph with a letter from Hitler declaring he thereafter would continue to work for peace.
Crowds cheered when Chamberlain said, “I believe it is peace for our time.”
In Parliament, one man rose to state his opposition: “We have sustained a total, unmitigated defeat.” But Winston Churchill was shouted down.
In 1939, Hitler gobbled the rest of Czechoslovakia. Czechs were killed or enslaved. In September 1939, 1.5 million German troops defeated 30 Polish divisions in 18 days, as Russia invaded the rest of Poland from the east. World War II had begun — and Germany rapidly took one country after another until finally Chamberlain was replaced by Churchill in early 1940.
Why dwell on all this history? Well, history tells us that showing weakness or appeasement by negotiating with tyrants is both gullible and dangerous.
When a young JFK after the Bay of Pigs failure met with Khrushchev, the Soviets immediately moved to build the Berlin Wall. It stayed in place for 28 years. Next, the Soviets installed nuclear missiles in Cuba, threatening to turn the Cold War into WWIII.
When a one-term governor from Plains, Ga., became president, he visited our strongest military ally in the Mideast and stopped selling our fighter aircraft to them. And why? Because Jimmy Carter didn’t like the Shah of Iran’s treatment of Soviet spies who had been undermining Iran.
Carter preferred the exiled Ayatollah Khomeini as a leader because he was religious. So we stood by as the Shah, an ally, was overthrown. Today, Iran is the world’s biggest sponsor of terror and is on track to have nukes in five years — all thanks to Carter’s naivete.
We’ll have to have an older, wiser, far more experienced president to deal with this dangerous threat. We can’t have another Carter or another Chamberlain. Incidentally, after Carter lost Iran in what amounted to total incompetence, he visited Leonid Brezhnev.
Brezhnev afterward promptly invaded Afghanistan and Carter said, “I can’t believe he lied to me.” While Carter was in office, the Soviets took over a number of countries, including Afghanistan, Angola, Cambodia, Grenada, Mozambique, Ethiopia, South Yemen and Nicaragua.
The more Carter talked, the worse it got for the U.S.
Of our three youngest presidents since WWII, Kennedy, Carter and Clinton, Bill Clinton was 46 when sworn in. He was a great salesman and a smart, popular politician.
He had never been in the military and didn’t know much about it and was not successful in dealing with al-Qaida, who tested him only one month into office in February 1993, when terrorists trained in Afghanistan bombed the World Trade Center in New York.
That October, al-Qaida hurt us in Somalia when they shot down our Black Hawk helicopters; 73 Americans wounded, 18 killed.
Next, a joint Saudi-U.S. facility was bombed, then our Khobar Towers housing complex. July 1996, al-Qaida defectors tell us their direction; 1998, bin Laden declares “war on America”; 1998, they blew up our embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam; 200 killed, 5,000 injured.
In answer, we fired a couple of missiles into the vacant desert and an aspirin factory. October 2000, the USS Cole was bombed.
The 9/11 report showed that the Clinton administration had up to 10 chances to get bin Laden when they knew where he was, but failed to act.
In 12 different surveys by historians, the most recent in 2005 (and all available on the Internet), America’s presidents are ranked: Of the 43 presidents, Ronald Reagan ranked 6th; Harry Truman 7th; Dwight Eisenhower 7th; John Kennedy, 15th; Bill Clinton 22nd; Jimmy Carter, 34th.
Reagan was weeks from being 70 when inaugurated, Truman was 60, and Eisenhower 62; Kennedy was only 43, Clinton 46 and Carter 52. History shows that our very best, most productive, successful presidents were older.
Why? They had the most experience, maturity and sound judgment in defending America.
Harry Truman said our most handsome presidents that to the public looked presidential were Warren Harding and Franklin Pierce.
How did they do? Harding in the 2005 survey ranked 39th, while Pierce ranked 38th. Could they have been a little less tested?
So who do you think history tells us may be the most experienced person we can trust to be commander-in-chief and deal with Iranian terrorists with nukes; Putin’s resurgent Russia that backs Iran and wants to give nuclear capability to Venezuela, re-arm Cuba and Nicaragua; an al-Qaida that wants to strike America again; and, let’s not forget, up-and-coming China?

An older gentleman who lives in my building has said he was going to vote for Obama because he doesn’t want to lose his Social Security and believes BO will save it.
Today, I sent him a simple email with the question, “What do Osama and Obama have in common? A; They both have friends who bombed the Pentagon.
Well he emailed me right back and said, “Hey, no political crap, please!”
I wrote back and Said, “Sure, no problem. But it’s not crap~~it happens to be the truth.”
I’m sure he’s gonna lose some sleep thinking about voting for BO now.

I put them under the doors of Hotel rooms when I know a certain convention is in town or it is full.
What ? the pizza guy and the chinese food guy can toss all sorts of menu’s under my door , I can too.

I heard something interesting on CNN tonight. They had a panel on including the CNN anchor Soledad Obrien.
Soledad was in the room last night with the undecided voters who were recording their reactions to the debate in live time.
The news panel was reviewing the results from last night, but indicated that there was one result that had them puzzled.
Apparently more people in the undecided group said they thought Obama won the debate; and more of the undecideds said they expected Obama to win;
(ok – here comes the good part)
However when they were asked who they would vote for President if they had to vote today – more people said McCain!!
The news panel discussing this result was acting astonished and confused as to how the group members could say Obama won the debate but then the majority would vote for McCain.
The news panel’s conclusion was some off-the-wall rationale- I can’t even recall what they said
There apparently were not follow up questions so Soledad could not explain the individuals reasons.
I think this may be exactly what is going to happen on election day. People will be able to describe what they perceive to be public opinion – which appears to be in favor of Obama (based on what they hear due to the media’s bias).
But when the undecided voters go into the booth to vote more will NOT choose to vote for Obama. They will instead vote for McCain-Palin. And to the Democrat party’s surprise – despite all the poll numbers – Obama will lose!
Just thinking about that day makes me smile…
