Mahadevi overnight

The story of the Mahadevi, often called Durga.

In comments, be the creator — describe your perfect President (since we obviously won’t be getting one this year who is even CLOSE to perfect).

What would they look like, sound like? what would their life story be?

How far do you think our country is from electing a GREAT president? Why?

What can WE do to bring our country closer to the time when we can elect a GREAT president?

One small detail that I can guarantee won the hearts of a lot of votes from the military out there was when McCain told the gentleman in the audience that “I’ve learned a lot from a Chief Petty Officer.”

I know for a fact since I spent many years married to a 20-year career military man who was also a graduate of the Naval Academy — and that kind of comment goes over well with the enlisted as well as officers in the armed forces.

matt… I would venture to guess that overall… McCain sounded more credible as usual. I think Obama puts everyone to sleep… but the pundits will tell us differently. Overall… it wasn’t lively from either candidate and certainly no fireworks that we were all hoping for… but John stuck to the topic… and I think that will stick in most people’s minds. Especially as more of the bad stuff on Obama start coming out in the upcoming weeks. One of the first questions said it all — “Who can we trust?” In the end I think most people trust McCain more.

Personally I think it’s going to not make any difference. McCain needed a “game changer” here… and, although we liked what he said compared to BO, for those who are undecided or leaning I don’t think there was any real “game changer” tonight. No strong “wow… everybody will definately see how great Mac is after that” statement. The flood is going over to BO; the only way to stop it was something really strong…. and it wasn’t there. I’m afraid the flood is going to keep going as it is right now yet. We’ll see after the polls in a few days, but I don’t think we’re going to see much change in Mac’s direction as a result of this debate unfortunately….

Can you believe CNN is talking about Ayers and Obama :

Ayers and Obama crossed paths on boards, records show. Story Highlights
William Ayers was a fugitive leader of an anti-Vietnam war terrorist group

The 60s radical group committed its acts when Obama was a child

Ayers and Obama later worked on Chicago charitable boards together

Obama’s spokesperson said Obama had been unaware of Ayers’ past

By Drew Griffin and Kathleen Johnston

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) — More than 30 years ago, William Ayers was a fugitive leader of the Weather Underground, an antiwar terrorist group known for its bombings of police stations, the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol.

Chicago gave William Ayers its Citizen of the Year award in 1997 for his work on an education project.

1 of 2 Today, he is back in the news, a central figure in a debate over character, judgment and associations in an increasingly bitter presidential race between Democratic Sen. Barack Obama and Republican Sen. John McCain.

At issue is Obama’s relationship with Ayers, an unrepentant radical who as late as 2001 said he wished he had done more to stop the Vietnam War. After years on the run, the federal government’s case against Ayers and his wife, fellow radical Bernadine Dohrn, was thrown out due to illegal wiretaps and prosecutorial misconduct.

CNN’s attempts to contact Ayers for comment were unsuccessful.

Ayers is now a university professor who lives on the South Side of Chicago, where Obama cut his political teeth. The nature of their relationship has been the subject of discussion all year in the blogosphere, but was dismissed by Obama during a Democratic primary debate earlier this year.

Obama confirmed during that April debate that he knew Ayers “as a guy who lives in my neighborhood.”

When pressed, Obama said they served on a charitable board together. He also denounced Ayers’ support for violence.

“What they are arguing is that somehow the fact that these two people, who both served as educational reformers in Chicago, both who did have their paths cross professionally as well as neighbors occasionally, that somehow this association is a problem because of Bill Ayers’ past and things that happened in the 1960s when Barack Obama was 7 years old,” said Anita Dunn, a senior Obama adviser.

“And that’s just wrong and quite unfair.”

But the relationship between Obama and Ayers went deeper, ran longer and was more political than Obama — and his surrogates — have revealed, documents and interviews show.

Fact Check: Is Obama ‘palling around with terrorists’?
A review of board minutes and records by CNN show Obama crossed paths repeatedly with Ayers at board meetings of the Annenberg Challenge Project.

The Annenberg Foundation gave the project a $50 million grant to match local private funds to improve schools, and Ayers fought to bring the grant to Chicago, according to participants and project records.

The project’s organizing committee asked Obama to serve as the board chairman in 1995. Annenberg Project Executive Director Ken Rollings said Ayers was not a member of that ad hoc group when the decision was made.

For seven years, Ayers and Obama — among many others — worked on funding for education projects, including some projects advocated by Ayers.

“The specific job of the board of directors was to give out the money,” said Stanley Kurtz, a conservative researcher for the Ethics and Public Policy Center and frequent Obama critic.

“Instead of giving money directly to schools, they gave money to what they call external partners and these partners were often pretty radical community organizer groups,” said Kurtz, who also has been reviewing the Annenberg Challenge’s recently released records.

The board, for example, gave hundreds of thousands of dollars to Bill Ayers’ small schools project. The project promoted alternative education, including projects like the Peace School — where the curriculum centered on a United Nations theme — and another school where the focus was African-American studies.

The funding, according to Kurtz and records CNN reviewed, came directly from the Annenberg foundation which Obama chaired. The project shut down in 2003 after achieving “little impact on school improvement and student outcomes,” its final report stated.

While working on the Annenberg project, Obama and Ayers also served together on a second charitable foundation, the Woods Fund. It was that foundation that Obama referenced in the debate — not the Annenberg Challenge.

Among Wood Foundation recipients were the Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity United Church, where Obama attended and was married; and the Children and Family Justice Center, where Ayers’ wife Dohrn was director.

A CNN review of project records found nothing to suggest anything inappropriate in the volunteer projects in which the two men were involved. Read CNN’s fact check on Obama’s connection to Ayers

Ayers has strong defenders in Chicago — including Mayor Richard Daley, who called him “a valued member of the Chicago community.”

The city gave Ayers its Citizen of the Year award in 1997 for his work on the Annenberg project.

For Obama, the chairmanship of the $100 million Annenberg board helped vault him from a South Side lawyer to political player. And there, too, is an Ayers connection.

In 1995, months after the little-known Obama became Annenberg chairman, state Sen. Alice Palmer introduced the young lawyer as her political heir apparent. The introduction was made over coffee at the home of Ayers and Dohrn. Two people who attended the event told CNN the introduction of Obama included a solicitation for campaign funds.

Obama senior aide Dunn said it was just a coincidence the event occurred at the home of the two former Weather Underground members.

“A Democrat state senator organizes the meeting at the home of one of her supporters,” Dunn said. “What is the problem here? It is the worst kind of inference and the worst kind of politics to say that says something about Barack Obama.”

Palmer rarely speaks to reporters. But she recently denied to CNN that she organized the political affair for Obama, although she said she attended.

Dr. Quentin Young, a longtime physician, now retired, referred to the gathering as the political coming-out party for Obama.

Young said it was a small group — maybe a dozen or so people — who were being introduced to the next senator from Chicago’s South Side, and that money was raised for Obama at the event.

Sunday, senior Obama strategist David Axlerod told CNN that Obama “didn’t know the history” of Ayers’ notorious past when the political event was held.

Ayers’ past has been well-chronicled and well-known in Chicago. His late father Thomas, a wealthy and prominent executive of the public utility Commonwealth Edison, worked tirelessly and publicly to re-establish his son into Chicago society.

But the Obama-Ayers connection exploded into the national news Saturday when McCain’s running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, accused Obama of “palling around” with a domestic terrorist. The Obama campaign calls the charge “ludicrous,” and there is no evidence to show the two men are pals — although in an interview earlier this year with Politico, Axlerod said the two men were friendly.

Obama and Ayers had a connection not just through the education and charity boards, but in the area of juvenile justice. Obama praised Ayers’ book on the subject in a 1997 Chicago Tribune review, calling it “a searing and timely account of the juvenile court system, and the courageous individuals who rescue hope from despair.”

In an event organized by Obama’s wife Michelle, then-Illinois state Sen. Obama was listed as a panelist along with Ayers on a discussion involving juvenile justice issues.

At the time, Obama was fighting legislation that would put more juveniles under the purview of adult courts.

I disagree… I think the “flood” you speak of is media manufactured. I don’t believe there ever really was a flood. Ignore the polls. Ignore the pundits… and just keep working as we have been doing. I think there are more good people out there that find McCain more trustworthy and that is what counts. I think there are a lot of people out there who like McCain but they aren’t being vocal or aren’t being heard… or both.

At the beginning Tom B said that the audience was made up of “totally undecided” voters that were not leaning one way or the other …..another “lie” by the tank NBC(& MSM). If anybody watched at the end at first McCain (and then Cindy joined him from backstage – while MO had a seat in the audience?) and BO were shaking hands …but then it was “crystal clear” that the majority of them were not “totally undecided and not leaning one way or the other. BO and MO were posing for picture after picture, signing books, autographs….in fact one African American women came running down from the top row and was hugging and touching BO…..So to me that is BS – PERIOD
The debate was boring and biased as should be expected with Tom B and NBC……

cure for econ crisis

By CHARLES BABINGTON, Associated Press Writer 1 minute ago

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Barack Obama and John McCain clashed repeatedly over the causes and cures for the worst economic crisis in 80 years Tuesday night in a debate in which Republican McCain called for a sweeping $300 billion program to shield homeowners from mortgage foreclosure.

“It’s my proposal. It’s not Sen. Obama’s proposal, it’s not President Bush’s proposal,” McCain said in the debate that he hoped could revive his fortunes in a presidential race trending toward his rival.

In one pointed confrontation on foreign policy, Obama bluntly challenged McCain’s steadiness. “This is a guy who sang bomb, bomb, bomb Iran, who called for the annihilation of North Korea — that I don’t think is an example of speaking softly.”

That came after McCain accused him of foolishly threatening to invade Pakistan and said, “I’m not going to telegraph my punches, which is what Sen. Obama did.”

The debate was the second of three between the two major party rivals, and the only one to feature a format in which voters seated a few feet away posed questions to the candidates.

They were polite, but the strain of the campaign showed. At one point, McCain referred to Obama as “that one,” rather than speaking his name.

“It’s good to be with you at a town hall meeting,” McCain also jabbed at his rival, who has spurned the Republican’s calls for numerous such joint appearances across the fall campaign.

They debated on a stage at Belmont University four weeks before Election Day in a race that has lately favored Obama, both in national polls and in surveys in pivotal battleground states.

Not surprisingly, many of the questions dealt with an economy in trouble.

Obama said the current crisis was the “final verdict on the failed economic policies of the last eight years” that President Bush pursued and were “supported by Sen. McCain.”

He contended that Bush, McCain and others had favored deregulation of the financial industry, predicting that would “let markets run wild and prosperity would rain down on all of us. It didn’t happen.”

McCain’s pledge to have the government help individual homeowners avoid foreclosure went beyond the details of the bailout that recently cleared Congress. The legislation allows but does not require Treasury to purchase mortgages directly. Obama has said previously that idea should be studied, and his campaign contended McCain’s proposal was not a new one.

McCain’s campaign issued a written statement that said the $300 billion cost of his initiative would be paid out of the $700 billion approved late last week.

“I would order the secretary of the Treasury to immediately buy up the bad home loan mortgages in America and renegotiate at the new value of those homes, at the diminished value of those homes, and let people be able to make those payments and stay in their homes,” he said.

“Is it expensive? Yes. But we all know, my friends, until we stabilize home values in America, we’re never going to start turning around and creating jobs and fixing our economy, and we’ve got to get some trust and confidence back to America.”

McCain also said it was important to reform the giant benefit programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

“My friends, we are not going to be able to provide the same benefit for present-day workers that present-day retirees have today,” he said, although he did not elaborate.

The two men also competed to demonstrate their qualifications as reformers at a time voters are clamoring for change.

McCain accused Obama of being the Senate’s second-highest recipient of donations from individuals at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two now-disgraced mortgage industry giants.

“There were some of us who stood up against it,” McCain said of the lead-up to the financial crisis. “There were others who took a hike.”

Obama shot back that McCain’s campaign manager, Rick Davis, has a stake in a Washington lobbying firm that received thousands of dollars a month from Freddie Mac until recently.

Pivoting quickly to show his concern with members of the audience listening from a few feet away, he said, “You’re not interested in politicians pointing fingers. What you’re interested in is trying to figure out, how is this going to impact you.”

But that didn’t stop the two men from criticizing one another repeatedly as the topics turned to energy, spending, taxes and health care.

Obama said McCain was going to require taxes on the health benefits workers receive from their employers at the same time his plan would wipe out the ability of states to enforce their own regulations to require tests such as mammograms.

McCain countered that under his rival’s plan “Sen. Obama will fine you” if parents fail to obtain coverage for their children but had yet to say what the fine would be. “Perhaps we will find that out tonight,” he said.

Obama quickly followed up, saying that McCain “voted against the expansion” of the children’s health care program the government runs.

The two men prefer dramatically different approaches to easing the problem of millions of uninsured Americans. McCain favors a $5,000 tax credit that he says would allow families to find and afford health care on their own.

Obama wants to build on the current system, in which millions receive coverage through the workplace, with government funding to help uninsured families obtain coverage.

Obama also said that American International Group Inc., which was bailed out by the government, should give the Treasury $440,000 to cover the costs of a company retreat at a posh California resort less than a week after the federal intervention. “Those executives should be fired,” he said, referring to the participants in the retreat.

The debate also veered into foreign policy, and the disputes were as intense as on the economy and domestic matters.

McCain said his rival “was wrong about Iraq and the surge. He was wrong about Russia when they committed aggression against Georgia. And in his short career he does not understand our national security challenges. We don’t have time for on the job training.”

Obama countered with a trace of sarcasm that he didn’t understand some things — like how the United States could face the challenge in does in Afghanistan after spending years and hundreds of billions of dollars in Iraq.

The audience was selected by Gallup, the polling organization, and was split three ways among voters leaning toward McCain, those leaning toward Obama and those undecided.

Tom Brokaw of NBC, the moderator, screened their questions and also chose others that had been submitted online.

This should have been Barack’s chance to steal 2nd base and get to third. He is caught now between throw backs from the third base player and second base player, not to mention the shortback is giving mixed signals and there was a 3rd rank pitcher in play. Barack is on the run both back and forth. McCain is in place at third base to put him out with Palin as catcher to seal the deal. This debate was “the link.” Barack went no where except where his paid followers and pundits put him. This is the last inning of a long ball game that we know WE CAN WIN, but waiting for that pivotal play. It will play out! Don’t rush the action of the guy on third base and his catcher….and remember…there are booos and claps/cheers going on on both sides that add to the mix. Barack should be on third base. Barack is NOT on third base. Barack is on the run. John did what he had to do…….AND he is on third base waiting

What can WE do to bring our country closer to the time when we can elect a GREAT president?

************
From your question from above…

What is needed is a third viable political party.

A two party democracy is to devisive. It creates a black or white mentality, an either or situation.

With another choice, it brings up the game to a higher stakes and more choice for the citizenry, thus a far far greater president.

Another rank and file question. Americans are not good at ambiguity! Three choices – hence no black and white would put a good deal of the population in a tailspin.

Why do you think there is such a high level of participation in this election? It’s black and white at every level…every level. BUT hello America. The solutions are not black and white and no one individual will bring about change. Hello!!

Notice how little Obama says about collaboration? His message is simplistic as is most prime time television – meant to speak to a low common denominator. For the record, race has nothing to do with it.

McCain won the debate on issues. The debate was a snoozer over all. I did think McCain’s housing proposal was interesting and was a sign that he wants to help homeowners. Nothing from Bozo except telling us we’re upset like we don’t know that. Not sure why McCain didn’t mention Ayers etc during the terrorist segment. Bozo did his usual talking in circles and uhhhhhhhhhs and repeating Bush/McCain mantra and flip flopped on nuclear energy. Bozo sucks at town halls so no wonder he refused them all year. He likes stump speeches and standing at a podium with note cards and prepared talking points.

#74 mzebest on 10.07.08 at 11:41 pm

#64 snowtiger

And snowtiger… read my post at #1. That comment alone (by McCain) won him a ton of points with voters and BO doesn’t even know that because he’s never been around the armed service people and their families. A Chief Petty Officer is usually someone that makes it to being an Officer by working up from the lowest enlisted rank and up. So that particular person has a ton of experience and knowledge that is base on a lot of common sense too. McCain acknowledged that with his compliment that he learned the most from Chief Petty Officers. The man beamed with a huge smile at that. I guarantee the collective military families out there did as well. And BO doesn’t even know that happened.

Narcissists Tend to Become Leaders

http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/narcissiststendtobecomeleaders
LiveScience.com Tue Oct 7, 4:56 PM ET

Narcissists like to be in charge, so it stands to reason that a new study shows individuals who are overconfident about their abilities are most likely to step in as leaders, be they politicians or power brokers.

However, their initiative doesn’t mean they are the best leaders. The study also found narcissists don’t outperform others in leadership roles.

Narcissists tend to be egotistical types who exaggerate their talents and abilities, and lack empathy for others. The researchers stress that narcissism is not the same as high self-esteem.

“A person with high self-esteem is confident and charming, but they also have a caring component and they want to develop intimacy with others,” said lead researcher Amy Brunell, a psychologist at Ohio State University at Newark. “Narcissists have an inflated view of their talents and abilities and are all about themselves. They don’t care as much about others.”

Kate Howard @ The Tennessean reports on Cindy McCain’s visit to the Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt today, where she she described the Obama Campaign as “the dirtiest campaign in American history.”

From Howard’s report:

Cindy McCain said today that she expects her husband to clear the record at tonight’s debate and let America know where he truly stands.

McCain, who stopped to visit a half-dozen children at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt today, said the presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama has “waged the dirtiest campaign in American history,” and her husband Sen. John McCain will use tonight’s debate to correct the distortions.

“What I have found is that it’s necessary to make sure the American people understand what we have to say, what we stand for as a husband and wife, and what we will do for the American people if we’re lucky enough to be elected,” Cindy McCain said.

Cindy McCain, who has said she initially did not want her husband to enter the 2008 race after the contentious primary he lost to President George W. Bush, said this race is even nastier.

#111 turndownobama on 10.07.08 at 11:54 pm

As for what we can do to fix the country to elect a better president….

I think the big thing is to blog more. :-) We need to wean people away from Big Media. We can’t reform Big Media, all we can do is take away their audience, one by one maybe. Every minute a voter spends on the internet reading blogs or other grassroots material, is one less minute they’re watching ads on Big Media.

We need to get people hanging out at the good centrist sites. Not reading political blogs all the time, but coming to the good guys for their entertainment, and picking up their first news about the news from the good guys.

Moveon.org began as centrist (to defend Bill Clinton in the impeachment) but when the impeachent was over most of the centrists went home to normal non-political interests, and the neo-libs took it over. Maybe only extremists bother to do net root politics till there’s a crisis, and then the centrists are scrambling to catch up.

So we need to do something about this. Make sites like the Oprah network or Martha Stewart’s magazine or Geraldo or the late night comedians, that will get an audience and keep it between crises, when there aren’t any political issues. But run by us raging centrists so that we are ready when there is a crisis, and present our side of things all the time. Well, our middle of things.

I call it the “street light” votes. If the street light in fron tof your house is burned out you will vote for the one that will change the bulb.
That plan to save peoples houses will garner a lot of votes for McCain. Not merely the people who are losing their homes but, their relatives as well. You see if your losing your home or oyur parents, sister whoever is losing their home, you really put everything else on the nack burner, Frddi mac? Iraq? The economy overall? WHat do you care if you are one step away from the street? ONe step away from having to take relatives in because they lost their house?

a typical but poignant example of the results of libeeal policy on education is what has recently occured in the san francisco scoll district which foir decades has held annual testing for measuring academic achievement of its students.. the results both shocked and deeply disturbed the educators of the district.. for the first time in testing history a key demographic group actually scored lower than “special education” students.. all groups excet black students made some advancement..blacks in fact fell back to a leve lower than the districts special education students. this is a wake up call that liberal policies are an abject failure

Maybe. BUt I dont think so. There always issues that are upm or down with voters. If you are losing your house it is an easy up or down. You vote for the person who will help you keep it.
I don’t think the whole bailout issue is that easy. One way or another there will be a bailout. Too many details to concern most people. McCAins plan for saving peoples homes is simple and direct.
That is what most people ,I am sorry to say, want. A complex issue turned into a simple solution.

I agree Dances………………. these two boys are a real let down.

Just watched the debate, talked long distance to my son who for the first time changed his vote from obie to McCain (probably, from what his mom has told him about obie’s corruption, and got in a heated argument with his first long time love………….),
but have to say, it was not the ‘fight and take down I was hoping to see’. Two men acting like they are in Dancing with the Stars isn’t my idea of a leader. I want an Alpha male, not anthing this soft………
Of course I liked McCain more, but I don’t think he changed many minds tonight.

#146 Seattlegirl on 10.08.08 at 12:09 am

I actually think McCain could be a great President. He is a straight talker not a schmoozer so it will take awhile for people to figure out he is doing a great job. He has already lived an amazing life and there is no reason for him to want to do anything more than retire peacefully with his wife, kids and grandkids. I think he is running because he sees things about the country he could fix. But he loves our country and doesn’t want to change the parts that work. Just a tune up to optimize.

However I would have thought Hillary would have been a great President also. She also loves the country. She would have brought a woman’s perspective which has obviously been sorely lacking for a very long time, and if the Dems cling to power it will be sorely lacking in the future. Hillary was also a Republican when she was young and so I think her centrist attitude is real. No one is going to be great who clings to dogma Bush has stuck with neocon dogma and nearly run the country into the ground, the worst thing that could happen is to swing the complete other direction and cling to left wing dogma. What the Republicans haven’t bankrupted with their military industrial complex corruption and graft the liberal wingnuts will bankrupt with their social program graft and corruption of ambition. Could we please just have a centrist?

Does anyone have the Acorn diagram at justsaynodeal on jpeg? I started to convert is, but way to complicated for my time frame.

Anyone have it on jpeg? Doing three-fold flyers and want to put it in the center.

Thanks

I tried the same thing because it is such a great graphic. When you copy it from the website it comes in pieces……..I gave up after hours of work pasting each graphic into a flyer and trying to make the text large enough to read.
I was able to save the page as a pdf, but you can’t read the text, it is too small.

In OBlahBlah presidency schools are going to teach students to sing the praise of the chosen, they will learn to fondle themselves (the way Michael Jackson allegedly taught some Neverland kids), they will know anatomy before they learn the barney finger song and all steps successfully taken in South side of Chicago schools will be taken national. We will have Douglas school of Maryland all over in USA.
I say all this shit to get my point over to PUMA’s to continue this necessary NOBAMA movement

#156 KarenWI on 10.08.08 at 12:13 am

I’ll be the first to admit there are good and bad apples in both parties. However, as a repub – please forgive me for saying this- I have to laugh when I see people talk about Hannity… about Fox…. about Rush…. and how biased CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC are…. I laugh because Fox, Hannity, Rush, CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC.. they haven’t changed. They have, perhaps gotten more out in the open with some things, but they haven’t changed really. Pelosi…. hmmm, no real change there either. Dean either…. or Albright or Claire McK either. I’m not saying you’ve been changed into repubs… I’m saying that now, perhaps for the first time, you are seeing what some of us have been saying for a long time- at least those of us who have been seeing clearly that there is no one party who is ALWAYS right and no one party that is ALWAYS wrong… but that there seems to be an agenda in the democratic leadership, and in the MSM, that is not out for the good of America and Americans, but only for themselves.

#161 1of18MilforHill08 on 10.08.08 at 12:16 am

I have been thinking this same thing and no one brings it up to challenge BO about the war issue…..so I copied a post from Greta that says it pretty good…….

“Why is it that no one is picking up on the fact that everytime Obama talks about Afghanastan, and sending troops there, all that means is that the troops in Iraq are NOT coming home – they are just going to another country. There will be NO savings for the budget because he’ll have to spend it in another country. He’s lying to the country about bringing troops home or saving money. Yet another Obama deflection. Lame.”

I saw my dermatologist today. He is the brother of our Rep. Steve Kagen (D). Both are huge supporters of BO and follow the “party line” very closely. Dr Charles Kagen told me today that both parties are getting just as many illegal votes done… and that the end result is a wash. I told him that Acorn is more connected witht the sitting dems that the repubs, but he insisted that it’s a “wash”. When I left he said to me “vote…. and vote frequently”. I guess he’s telling all his patients that as he walks out the door…. (sigh)….

Ignore the polls

People actually showing up and being willing to wait in line to vote will be what ultimately matters.

Let’s ALL help Freddie get her posters distributed over the next two weeks — especially in swing states!

* leave one wherever you go
* hand them out EVERYWHERE
* shy? mail them out with a handwritten note and PUMA election slate for your state to everyone you have ever known, including your neighbors (do a reverse address search for their names)

Let’s do all we can to help Freddie

I was thinking we could have a news program podcast. totally puma — serious and informative — but fun too.
just politics and national affairs to start off.
It would be difficult to do a daily show, but that would be best.
maybe start out with 2-3 x per week.
========

I hadn’t thought about radio. It has worked well for the rightwingers for a long time. Is this something our audience could listen to in their cars or at work etc, or do people need a computer or have to phone in to hear it? What about ipod? Podcast?

I think even just a short thing would get people in the habit of listening to us. I think if it could be M-F that would be great for forming the habit. Remember Paul Harvey with a short syndicated news commentary that came on every day at noon, iirc?

Too true. Imve been using that argument to show how he can’t afford to fund his projects. Also think on this. We are spending ten billion a week in Iraq. Or so Biden claims. Now most people would believe if we bring the troops home we would save ten billion a week? Right? Wrong. We still have to pay the military upkeep the equipment, have them train etc etc etc.
The ten biliion savings a transparent lie. IDK how much we would actually save however.
Some one smarter than me should take that up and see what they can find out and calculate.

#178 BillieJo on 10.08.08 at 12:22 am

I have a questions for PUMAs. Has anyone been asked by any of the national polls who they will vote for?

If not, has any PUMA been asked?

My thoughts are if the answer is no, then PUMAs are not represented in the polls.

What if the polls are also taking into account how we are registered to vote, or have voted in the past. IE: I am a registered Democrat, but I will vote to McCain. My vote might be counted in the polls as a Democrat. They only sample x amount of people.

If those people do not include cross over PUMAs, then we are not the undecided group, we would be included in the Democrats counted for Obie.

If this is true, then Obama’s vote count percentage is 7-8 million less that will come out in the wash as “people that changed their minds in the voting booth because they didn’t want a black president”. Oh, excuse me, “racists”.

What do you guys think?

STATEMENT FROM HILLARY CLINTON ON TONIGHT’S PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

Hillary Clinton issued the following statement responding to tonight’s presidential debate:

“Tonight’s debate proved once again that an Obama-Biden Administration will provide the fresh start America so desperately needs.

“The biggest risk for American families is four more years of the last eight years and mavericks in charge of the United States economy. Mavericks in Washington and on Wall Street got us into this mess.

“As we saw, Senator Obama displayed beyond a doubt that he understands both the gravity of the financial crisis facing America, and the challenges we face in Iraq and around the world. Senator McCain offered only more of the same failed policies of the Bush Administration. It’s time for a change.”

What can we do? Everyone needs to spend time finding out who is backing any potential candidate for presidency, doing a lot of investigation, and writing credible books and papers about their backgrounds BEFORE they try to run for Presidency.

It’s not easy…I feel like they hid BO like a Trojan Horse untill right before the election so that there was very little time to investigate, and then sprung him on us by any means necessary. Possibly planned as soon as it was suspected that Hillary was really going to run for Presidency. “Oh, that will be the best time to run a Minority candidate.” etc, etc. God help us if he wins, if Hannity is correct.

The thing is to know: who the backers are, what their reasons to get someone in office are, who the possible candidates are, and where the money is coming from- IN ADVANCE.

It still astounds me that there are people that say “I don’t trust Hillary Clinton”, and DO say that they trust BO- in the face of all this. Her life has practically been a glass house. Are they really serious? They can’t be. So far, nobody has yet been able to tell me exactly WHY they don’t trust Hillary. I just can’t believe the people of America are so easily lead by ad campaigns.

“Eurasia is at war with East Asia. Eurasia has ALWAYS been at war with East Asia.”

“They”, are trying to convince us that Mac is losing and BO is inevitable. There is plenty enough money and influence behind BO to rig polls, stage large gatherings, put words into pundits mouths and give talking points to the media.
The only thing they can’t actually do is make enough people cast their votes to elect obama. So, we are seeing voter fraud and manipulation of the publics’ opinion. I think the low turnout in Ohio for absentee voters is significant. The obama campaign recieved 20,000 (at least) less voters than anticipated. This election may very well go to John McCain in a big way. American’s are no fools and the longer the Teflon man is in the public eye the more people will re-think.

billie jo,

As to PUMAs not showing up in polls. The last poll I saw, soon after the convention, showed about 1/4 of Hillary’s supporters planning to vote for McCain and 1/4 planning to protest by staying home. So if they’re only polling ‘likely voters’, then these people will be disregarded.

Also a lot of Democrats left the party this summer. So if the pollster begins by asking what party you’re in, then only asks the Democrats if they supported Hillary, the Pumas who left the party won’t be asked.

Just don’t get it though… besides party loyalty.. I mean, what would it gain for Hillary if BO won? Ok, maybe secretary of something (but I doubt it), or supreme court – or Bill on Supreme court… but that isn’t the presidency! She’d be out for 2012 then. BO would be running for reelection, or else Biden would be running as a former VP. How does a BO win help Hillary get the presidency? Can ANYTHING think of ANY way it could?

Sisterluck, I agree totally. A republican friend of mine emailed me last week and said of the last debate, “McCain is just too nice.”

I thought the term originated when Huey Long was Governor of Lousiana but I could be mistaken. I think (but not sure), that he was referring to the term “cracker” as someone uneducated, from the south. And perhaps Clinton was being sarcastic / cynical, i.e., “yeah, they send me out to pull in voters who are uneducated or of low income.”

That’s just a guess, though. If my guess is correct then I’d say Bill Clinton’s sense of humor has gotten pretty dark these days.

Obama’s lead over McCain narrows in ABC/Post poll
Tue Oct 7, 2008
http://pumasunleashed.wordpress.com/

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama leads Republican John McCain by 50 percent to 46 percent among likely voters in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll, down from a 9-point edge a week earlier.

The new poll released on Tuesday was conducted Saturday through Monday, after the candidates met in their first debate on Friday.

(sigh)….

You know when I heard it I thought it was odd that no one said anything. I had only heard it used on tv when a black person would call a white person cracker. I just assume Clinton was talking about white people so nobody really gave a poop.

#300 Seattlegirl on 10.08.08 at 1:20 am

#291 mountainsong : Yes I think a multi-party system could happen very soon. Because I do believe there is an over riding plan to life. Our individual lives and collectively too. We don’t know what to make of what happens in our lives right as soon as it happens. So I hate to say this but BO could win. The country is already in an economic recalibration which will be very painful for many BO will lurch us to the extreme left which will be another disaster. And people will be fed up with both wack job ends of the political spectrum and both parties will then be defined by their extremes. That sets up the situation for new constructive political groups. PUMA is already organized and could easily become one of the new parties. I think if BO wins it will happen fast. If BO loses the Dems will be going through some extreme changes and remember McCain was considered as a running mate for Kerry, many Republicans hate him.

I have not heard anything about this prior to yesterday.

McCain was very Presidential on this debate, self-confidence was obvious, he talk straight to the American people; he said it as it, his knowledge of issues being discussed was broad. NObama was like an undergrad defending his thesis infront of faculty members. To some, the debate was boring, to me it wasn’t; in fact the debate showed contrast between NObama and McCain. NObama has a lot of growing up to do, he lacks maturity, it was obvious when he answered questions that sound so simple; he’s very impulsive, he lacks understanding of issues that requires deep thinking that can only be achieved thru experience – he’s sorely lacking in that category.

When NObama answered yes on question about Russia if its evil or not; I was saying to myself; “are you stupid or what?”. it shows how careless he is with his words, he lacks prudence which is a must for President especially when we deal with foreign policies. When MCain answered maybe for the same question, it shows his judgement and character; the man is cautious with words.

NObama has a lot of growing up to do, if he have only waited a few more years; but he’s always in a hurry to move on without looking back. That is the biggest failure of NObama; he’s too anxious to move on to the next without first learning the ropes.

NObama have shown how dangerous he is, would pull this country into war with Pakistan due to his impulsiveness. McCain was right on his answer about Pakistan; you have to win hearts of the people to capture terrorist like Bin Laden. NObama’s solution is to attack Pakistan, he said the same thing during primary debate in California. Only those who did not pay attention how foreign policies can bring this country into another war will think NObama was right, the gung ho, couch potato warriors; their weapons – TV REMOTE CONTROL, ammunition – Budweiser.

repost from downstairs cause you guys/gals move to fast for me.

Answer Greta’s question about who got more time during the debate. Some obots talking trash about McCain and singing the praises of the O guy.

My comment:
“Obama did not think the rules applied to him and took far more time to answer his questions. He even stood up when McCain was speaking and insisted on speaking when it was time to move on. He does not respect rules, other people, or the idea of a debate. I think he was right only on the last question: he will have to ask Michelle when he does not know something or maybe she will have to tell him because he won’t know. She thinks he is ordinary at home and he thinks she knows all the answers. Please do not let him be our POTUS!”

Obama Overseas Money Could Total $3.3 Million

Tuesday, October 7, 2008 7:30 PM

Article Font Size

\Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has raised about $3.3 million from contributors who did not list a home state or who designated their state with an abbreviation that did not match one of the 50 states or U.S. territories, according to records provided by the Federal Election Commission.
The $3.3 million total does not include donors who have given less than $200 and whose contributions do not have to be itemized. Some of that money could also have come from overseas. About half of Obama’s $455 million in contributions so far are unitemized. The campaign does not identify those donors. Republican John McCain’s campaign lists all his donors, even those who give less than $200, on his Web site.

gumbykat,
I just looked on wickipedia & didn’t see where he owns much media but I did see this:

“Geffen has developed a reputation as a prominent philanthropist for his publicized support of medical research, AIDS organizations, the arts and theatre. He was an early financial supporter of President Bill Clinton. In 2001 he had a falling out with the former President over Clinton’s decision to not pardon Leonard Peltier, on whose behalf he had lobbied the President.[3]

Geffen is currently supporting Barack Obama for President and raised $1.3 million for Obama in a star-studded Beverly Hills fund raiser. On 21 February 2007, in an interview with Maureen Dowd of the New York Times, Geffen described Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton in unflattering terms: “Everybody in politics lies, but they do it with such ease, it’s troubling.” He said that Hillary Clinton was “incredibly polarizing” and described Bill Clinton as “reckless” and cast doubt on those who say he has become a different person since leaving office.”

Look up David Geffen on wikipedia. All the info is there. What Dick Morris said just always stuck in the back of my mind. I never could understand why Hollywood was so in the tank for Obama. We all know that was the Clinton’s territory.

hey DWP…haven’t talked to you since Denver..but I read you all the time..

#334 hillstheone on 10.08.08 at 1:55 am

gumbykat, well one thing for sure, even though Peltier (native american accused of killing 2 FBI agents) has many people believe he was innocent, many many BIG Tribes were _very_ big supporters of Hillary Clinton’s candidacy. Be interesting to hear how Geffen responded to THAT.

Trust me…it’s not a bad idea..it sure would get a lot of play…and maybe just maybe the fu&*ing media will look for some real answers and go a little deeper than trusting the likes of people like David Geffen, Axelrod, Pelosi, and the fools that let this happen…What have we got to lose? Get’s us publicity and makes people think , rather than just react and vote along party lines!!!
I’ve wanted to do this since Denver, but who would listen? Only at this hour and a glass of wine…think about it.

OK, I’m off to bed, it was nice talking w/you!

#345 BillieJo on 10.08.08 at 2:08 am

I notice the days that things go down hill in the election…everyone starts dumping on Hillary. What do all of you want her to do. Keep fighting how? Stand up, tell about the voter fraud, Obama’s corruption? Then what, she just gives up all she has earned and stands alone hated by more Democrats? I don’t get it.
If I am angry, it is at the DNC, the pigs that slapped her around and the PovertyPimp. I am frustrated too, but I don’t lay it on Hillary. I see emails from her too, and it make me very sad for the position she is in.

You want it on a piece of paper, with the writing? This graphic would only be good for a blog I think.

If you want a good copy maybe jsutsaynodeal can get you one? I can do a screenshot in two parts, but someone would have to put the parts together.

I seem to be able to post okay now.

It could be a two part-er, or even made to be printed on legal sized paper as a flyer.

Hillary always lands on her feet. She is a very savvy politician.
For now she has a safe senate position and can exercise great leadership from there. Sure it’s for the state of New York, but it will be for the nation too. Haven’t you seen the speeches, the op eds in the Wall Street journal? She has more power where she is than if she was on BO’s or McCain’s cabinet. Believe me they will both be listening to her speak out the truth, while they will be limited to spouting talking points approved by their pollsters.

#352 Nijma on 10.08.08 at 2:41 am

Billie Jo
I am using Irfanview. It’s free and very good. With it you can take a screenshot of the chart and save it in jpg or png. (I prefer PNG as it doesn’t distort so much and most programs can handle it.) After that you can manipulate the image by cropping it or turning it into grayscale or even resizing it.

If you want to erase the blog buttons, you can open it in paint and white out the parts you don’t want, then save it again as a png or jpg file.

The writing is visible on the website but only if you enlarge it. But when you enlarge it too much , it covers the smaller pictures. You could probably take a screenshot of the writing separately and use transparent tape to put it on your poster in the right places.

I think it can be done , but you might want to contact the webmaster over there and see if there is a decent file he can just email you. It might save you several hours of fooling around, and you would get more decent images. The guy is a PUMA, right? He’ll say yes if you can get through to him. maybe Murphy?…..

I think that would be a great flyer for college campuses. Access to dorms?….

Ayers only got off because his father was a big deal, chairman of Con Edison. His father bought and paid for Bill and Bernadine Dohrn’s placement back into the world. He got Ayers a job and an education. Bernadine already had a law degree so he got her a job with the same firm Michelle Obama worked for, after Bernadine got out of prison.

Why did Ayers get an award from Daley? Because Mayor Daley’s dad was friends with Bill Ayer’s dad and they shared the pork and power in Chicago. Chicago is like a different country from the rest of the U.S. just as NJ is different.

Daley gave Ayer’s legitimization by backing him up as his father wanted. Father to son, is the way to go in Chicago.

Ayer’s has never changed in his beliefs. Last year he and Bernadine were speaking at their old stomping grounds, UM and Ohio University, to the current SDS. Nothing has changed with them except that they now infiltrate the minds of school aged children and people in their schools who hope to become educators. But they have never repudiated their stance….kill your parents, Manson had it right, kill the pigs, eat their dinner then stick a fork in their stomach…

Bill Ayer’s father has earned a place in hell for backing up his son.

We need formulate this message then send it to every message board and every local newspaper where we live.

Tie BO to ACORN, he worked for them, he was their lawyer on some voter fraud cases, he benefited from them by receiving money from them, he gave them grants from the Wood Fund and the Chicago Annenberg Project, and BO’s campaign paid them $800,000 to help secure this election. IE. they are paying those scum bags we encounter on every message board as well as those committing voter fraud in Ohio and elsewhere.

Connect Obama to Ayers for six years. Don’t know why Fox is saying five years. The Chicago Annenberg Challenge lost their money because it was deemed a “FAILURE”, by the Annenberg foundation. And it wasn’t just $50 million dollars, there matching dollars from the local government. That makes it over $100 million. Wood Fund, also millions of dollars to radicals.

One of the Annenberg “donations” was made to another old friend of Ayers from the Weather Underground days. Obama approved that money as chairman. This is a big story that the media just keeps playing down but it has everything to do with how Obama ended up where he is right now. He is the willing tool of the socialists who hate America and has been for decades.

#357 Libby on 10.08.08 at 3:20 am

One more note: I live in NJ and the tide here just might change. Our only statewide news station has a bunch of hosts who are sick of the liberal politicians who are killing our state and the people who live here with unbelievable taxation which mainly fuels corrupt politicians and organized crime.

People pay taxes that could buy a home in another state. The government regulations for public buildings favor corrupt practices such as requiring multiple building plans, all of which have to be paid for, then only giving contracts to the lowest bidder, who will always defaut after starting a project, then the whole business starts from scratch again, then eventually a contract is given, not to the lowest bidder but the group who can actually get the job done.

Millions of dollars for a job that would cost, maybe $300,000 at best if it was done right from the start.

People are sick and tired of being ripped off. Giving big parts of their paycheck to see little results.

We want the government off our back and people to earn their own living. In Obama’s world, you get grants, federal money, state money to fund things that help your friends make money and do nothing for the people. His building projects are enough evidence for me.

I hope McCain brings all of this up at the next debate and in the meantime, I hope each and every one of us makes our voice heard by appealing to every media form near us whether it be our local paper or a message board, Obama is just a tool for socialism and we do not want it. He wants our money to spread around the world to feed his ego. And he wants our money to benefit his friends. And he wants our money to go to people beaten down so that they will think that he is the answer to their problems.

Obama is the problem, not the answer to problems.

She is black, she tells him what to do, and he, the perpetual adolescent, can happily go his way being and acting like the Peter Pan, he is. This is the sickest succor that ever came down the pike for the Presidency of the United States.

Good Morning Pumas. I turned the debate off at 10pm because I was bored with the same ole, same ole. I think that McCain had a few chances to go after Obama but didn’t. He didn’t have to mention Ayers if he didn’t want to but he could have said poor judgment and character over and over. What’s goiing on in the news and do you think the poll numbers will change? From what I saw, the debate was not a game changer for McCain.

#372 slyt2 on 10.08.08 at 6:52 am

ladyhawkke well if you listen to fox they say McCain won but he didn’t deliever the fatal blow, Now i do believe he did mention poor judgement several times but I also feel he said what he could without totally avoiding the questions this is why I hate townhall meetings they are limited to what they can do.

#373 slyt2 on 10.08.08 at 6:54 am

I think it was a lose , lose thing for McCain as far as these other stations go, if he would have gotten off topic and attacked they would have raked him over the goals for going off message, he stayed on message and he didn’t attack.. Drives me nuts he can’t win for nothing

#374 ladyhawkke on 10.08.08 at 6:56 am

#374 Sly2 We need a game changer now. Obama cannot continue to hold a lead if we are to believe the polls. The man memorized his lines and has no idea what in the hell he is going to do. Frankly, I’m frightened.
And I just read this morning where Iceland may have to declare bankruptcy! This was one of the richest countries in the world.
I still don’t understand why anyone thinks Obama has economic solutions. The only reason he is ahead is because the Dems are perceived to know more about the economy than the Repubs. OBAMA IS WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!

——————–
Not perfectly, no,” replied Mari Engelhardt, ACORN political director for Ohio.

Once stacks of registration cards are returned to ACORN offices, workers verify information by calling the phone number provided on the card, the board was told. If information is missing or ACORN identifies a suspicious card, it is given to the Board of Elections with a notice that it could be problematic.

ACORN workers who double-check cards can’t be expected to remember names and addresses previously verified, said Teresa James, an attorney for Project Vote representing ACORN.

Send your message to the entire list. not much extra work to copy and paste the list. Make sure you put a comma between lists if you combine them.

What i found to be soooooo funny last night I actually laughed out loud was the part where Soledad O’Brian
on cnn was with a group of independents and undecideds. While the cnn commentators were pumping up Obama, she asked them after the debate to hold up their hands if they were for McCain now, 14 held their hands up out of 25, LOLOLOLOLO and then the commentators said they just didnt understand that. Well, of course they didnt because the average people thought he won, while they have had the minds made up day one and have been pushing their own agenda. You would think they were all running for President.

This has been a year of cnn and msnbc running for office, period. Why they want this Obama person in is beyond me because they never discuss what all he has done, because he hasnt done anything except hang with scary people and promote redistributing everyone else’s money.

@Philadelphia Roof Doctor
I stand corrected. I was basing my assumption on the information available on this website’s main page: not the best of ideas on the Internet!

I’m definitely not an attorney either, I’m much worse: I’m a journalist. This case seems interesting and studying it has been an enjoyable way to spend an evening, even if I am not exactly convinced of the merits.

@The people wanting to get this out to the news media
You are going about it the wrong way. If you want something published write a short essay and mail it to an editor at a local or regional newspaper. I suggest writing in the inverted pyramid style and keeping the whole thing fewer than around five-hundred words. Be clear and concise. Avoid grandstanding, obvious conspiracy theory, mud-slinging and other vitriol, or Wikipedia quotes, and you have a much better chance of reaching the media. National media, by and large, trickles up from local media.

What is giving me an upset stomach, however, is the voter fraud that is going on in Ohio, Virginia and Florida.

Probably elsewhere too.

There have been several reports about it, but nobody seems to be doing anything.

How can we fight this?

The Stop the Obama Constiutitional Crisis Petition at

http://www.rallycongress.com/constitutional-qualification/1244/

has about 520 signatures and 999 e-mail and letters sent.

The Petition is about the Berg law suit and urges Congress to ensure that a court determine Obama’s citizenship. I think it’s good to inform Congress of all the doubts Americans have about Obama – so sign up if you haven’t already!

Damn this guy is dogging on Chris Matthews he said he is a embarrassment to journalism. He said you can’t really call him a journalist and if he would just put a Obama button on and say I am here for Obama I would have more respect for him it’s sickening….lmao I’m loving it , I guess Chrissy Matthews must have gushed over BO again last nite. This guy also took a good stab at “his side kick ” Keith O (his words not mine).. Said they are both embarrassing….

Not sure how we can fight the voter fraud. One thing we can do is write to anyone and everyone letting them know that we find this to wrong in every way.

I just got an email from a friend that said no one is asking foreigners for proof of citizenship when they register to vote in Fairfax County VA. The Democratic supervisor in the register’s office was standing over her employees to make sure they did not ask foreign registrants whether they were citizens. Unbelievable!

I need names!

ACORN Fraud Used Cowboys Starting Lineup

Owens, Romo names surface in Nevada voter-fraud probe
October 7, 2008

LAS VEGAS — Nevada authorities seized records Tuesday from a group they accused of submitting fraudulent voter-registration forms — including for the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys.

“Tony Romo is not registered to vote in the state of Nevada, and anybody trying to pose as Terrell Owens won’t be able to cast a ballot on Nov. 4,” said Secretary of State Ross Miller.

McCain and Palin should say five times a day – “How could anyone vote for a man who started his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist?”

Palin said something like that the other day and it hit home and hit hard.

What if he had started his career in Timothy McVeigh’s living room? Same thing to me. We are just blinded to the seriousness of what Ayers and company did.

The case seems so obvious to me.

Does anyone have update on Andy Martin’s Aloha Obama issues. Is he working with the GOP there?

Before I go play my match, I called the Judge handling the Berg case. I don’t think anyone else should call as he might get annoyed. But I conveyed my concerns about the motion to dismiss not being ruled upon quickly with so many questions about Obama’s BC. I was a legal secy for 47 years so I was able to relay my concerns and also the fact that attorneys and judges tend to sit on things that need action. She told me she would relay my concerns to the judge. Irregardless of whether the Motion to Dismiss is granted or denied, be ready for an appeal to the District Court of Appeal which could take forever. I was involved in a case and went all the way to the Supreme Court, which I won. I am just an average person who won’t give up. However, on my side, my boss was an appellate attorney so I had him going to court for me even as I was preparing most of the documents with his help.

For Hillary to put out that statement it is obvious in my opinion that O was not that strong last evening. She is a member of the democratic party and I guess she feels she has to support her party. Disappointment is a emotion that we feel if we have high expectations of someone and they in the end left us down, so it is expected in some with the path that Hillary has taken. I am sure Hillary is still respected and admired but sometimes disappointment outweigh those two qualities.

There are no ‘great’ presidents. Some are better than others, but they are just mortals, like the rest of us. The best we can hope for is someone who loves this country, respects its citizens and believes that he/she can make a positive difference.

#414 Delle on 10.08.08 at 9:51 am

412 Thank you so much for your call to the judge.

I do expect an appeal, regardless of how the judge decides on the dismissal.

I see the problem as lack of media attention.

Can anyone believe that a case such as this – regarding a presidential candidate who may not even be a legal citizen – can be so igorned?

This should be all over the news!

Honestly, I think Hillary HAS to pretend to support BO or risk being looked at as a bad Democrat, sore loser, etc by a large # of Americans and risk her bid for 2012. It’s not about what is actually going on…it’s what it LOOKS like to the average American(lowest common denominator). Not only that, she needs to stay in the public eye as a Democrat till 2012.

I wish like HEll she could just go Independant or form her own party, but she can’t. This is America, and most Americans will vote either Republican or Democrat ONLY and that’s just how it is. It hurts me to see such a brilliant politician trapped in such rigid circumstances.
