Hey McCain, It’s October. Surprise Me!

Senate set to vote today.

“Top lawmakers said the Senate proposal, worked out after a day of behind the scenes maneuvering, would include tax breaks for businesses and alternative energy and higher government insurance for bank deposits.”

Details HERE.

Pointing out that these changes help Big Shots. Higher government insurance for bank deposits sounds like a good idea for regular people who may have more than $100,000 in savings, but you have to look a little deeper. People with more than $100k to deposit have ALWAYS been able to have the full amount of their deposits insured (up to as much as $50million). The way it’s done is your financial services company spreads your big deposits around to more than one bank, $100k in each. What this provision will do is make it easier for individual banks to accept more money from individual depositors — in other words help CAPITALIZE banks that are starving for cash. SO, I’m not saying it’s a bad idea, in fact it sounds like a fairly painless way to ease the liquidity parch for banks. It also brings FDIC limits into the 21st Century in terms of inflation. BUT, let’s not get tricked into thinking this is any sort of concession for the PEOPLE.

SO, call your Senators, as antifish reminded us last night. CALL CALL CALL. EMAIL EMAIL EMAIL. Tell them what you want them to do. It is MUCH more difficult to influence Senators than it is Reps. The Senators do NOT live in mortal fear of their constituents — it is just TOO difficult to dislodge a sitting Senator, and so they are very safe, much the worse for us. But just the same, CALL CALL CALL. EMAIL EMAIL EMAIL.

#350 thecandypoem – Thank you!

Just emailed my protest to jb@debates.org and PBS. Received the following response from PBS:

“Thank you for taking the time to participate in the Washington Week Webcast Extra by sending us your questions. We appreciate hearing from you because input from viewers is important to us and provides an added dimension to the program. We aren’t able to respond individually to each message, so be sure to view the Webcast Extra online after 10:30pm EST every Friday night to see if your question is discussed by Gwen and our panel.”

Yu-huh…let’s see.

My letter to Senator Nelson. I hope everyone approves.

Dear Senator Nelson,
Thank you for all your hard work for Nebraskans.
I would like to plea with you not to vote for the bailout of those badly directed financial institutions
I am especially angry with Nancy Pelosi and friends who try to maneuver deals when “the people” are asleep. I am particularly upset about the fact that we already subsidize the corrupt ACORN and now Nancy and friends want to increase the amount we tax payers give to ACORN while at the same time ACORN is being investigated for massive fraud.

Nothing in our government seems to make sense anymore.

Lucky Lady and Slyt2:

GREAT IDEA! Just sent the following to the debate organizer y’all recommended jb@debates.org (and copied to our PUMA Media List).

The title of Ifill’s book, “Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama”, can in no way be considered to be nonpartisan.

In an imaginary world where liberal journalists are held to the same standards as everyone else, Ms. Ifill would be required to make a full disclosure at the start of the debate (or recuse herself entirely).

She should be required to turn to the cameras and tell the national audience that she has a book coming out on January 20, 2009 — the same day as the inauguration of the next president of the United States.

But this will not be a requirement, will it?

Debate fairness? I think not!

I did a lot of web surfing last night and I think the entire world is up in arms about the stock market here. This greed from people in America will impact the whole world in a very bad way. They are predicting hunger and starvation in many countries.
The 700 bil. is not just to bail out the fat cats here. They need to try to correct the problem and put the bums in jail!

Democrats still playing games: No Bailout is the Best Solution for the Economy and the People (Mainstreet)

The U.S. dollar is soaring (at least in relation to the British pound), the price of oil is plummeting, stock markets are calming in the eye of the storm, the big bad banks are going down like dominoes. At first sight, what’s not to like about the failure of the U.S. House of Representatives to rubberstamp the Bush-Paulson-Pelosi-Reid financial rescue package?

Dear Senator McCain:

I urge you to vote against the bailout plan. The plan does not have the support of the American people. Even the financial “experts” are divided on whether it’s needed. In fact, the market rebounded yesterday. If action must be taken, there are less costly measures which can be taken first. Believe me when I say Americans are tired of paying for bailouts, wars and ACORN when their standard of living is declining every day.

#24 emme on 10.01.08 at 9:55 am

Received this email yesterday from John McCain. In light of the Senate vote today, thought it was worth re-posting:

“My Friends,

We are in the greatest financial crisis of our lifetimes. Congressional inaction has put every American and the entire economy at the gravest risk. Yesterday the country and the world looked to Washington for leadership, and Congress once again came up empty-handed.

I am disappointed at the lack of resolve and bipartisan good will among members of both parties to fix this problem. Bipartisanship is a tough thing; never more so when you’re trying to take necessary but publicly unpopular action. But inaction is not an option.

If we do nothing, many businesses may fail. Sonic Corporation, a drive-in restaurant chain based in Oklahoma, learned on Thursday that one of its lenders, GE Capital, had stopped extending new loans to the chain’s franchisees. That will block plans to rebuild restaurants, add equipment and open new locations.

When financing dries up, students can’t get loans. In Wisconsin, more than 100 Milwaukee Area Technical College students couldn’t access private loans to fund their education. Fortunately the school was able to come up with emergency loans, but this temporary arrangement cannot continue. Markets need to work so that people can get financial help and students can be educated.

Again, inaction is not an option. In light of the House’s failure to act, this morning, I spoke to the President about two things that the administration has not done, but should do following the inaction of Congress. First, the Treasury has already used its Exchange Stabilization Fund to back money market accounts. I encourage it to use it this fund as creatively as possible to provide backstop for accounts across our financial system to maintain confidence on the part of savers and investors. And second, the recent housing bill gave the government nearly $1 trillion in authority to purchase mortgages. Housing and mortgages are at the root of this crisis.

The Administration can take these actions with the stroke of the pen to help alleviate the crisis gripping our economy. I urge them to do so.

The FDIC should quickly be granted the authority to increase the deposit insurance cap from $100,000 to $250,000 so that families do not have to worry about their money. We cannot allow a crisis in our financial system to become a crisis in confidence.

I call on everyone in Washington to come together in a bipartisan way to address this crisis. I know that many of the solutions to this problem may be unpopular, but the dire consequences of inaction will be far more damaging to the economic security of American families and the fault will be all ours.

And to my supporters, I assure you I will continue to do whatever I can to aid in a constructive answer to the challenge before us.

Sincerely,

John McCain

P.S. I’m asking you to pass this email along to your friends, family, neighbors and colleagues. We must spread the word that inaction is not an option. “

#25 Susie1945 on 10.01.08 at 9:57 am

I have a question – are we asking our clowns in Washington why they are not seeking advice from people who actually work in big business and deal with actual real money about ways to combat the stupidness they are planning to foist on us again? My IRA got a little back yesterday but – the DOW was up to 14000+ points when I retired in July 2007 – the meltdown from mortgages has taken the thing down for over a year – I have no confidence in any of them – they still think this is play money and as far as Paulsen is concerned – he needs to go –

Or as I just read the thread quickly, is that what the letter is about? I’m still against the bailout – its being manufactured, just like the vote for the Iraq war was -

Just because I’m acting paranoid, doesn’t mean I am…

Pelosi gives PAC money to her husband’s firm (fox news): Share:

WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi paid her husband’s real estate and investment firm nearly $100,000 from her political action committee over the past decade, a practice that she voted to ban last year and that her party condemned as part of the “culture of corruption” when Republicans did it.

The Washington Times is reporting that the California Democrat’s husband, Paul F. Pelosi, owns Financial Leasing Services Inc., which has received $99,000 in rent, utilities and accounting fees from the speaker’s “PAC to the Future” over the PAC’s nine-year history.

Last year, Pelosi supported a bill that would have banned members of Congress from putting spouses on their campaign staffs. The bill banned not only direct payments by congressional campaign committees and PACs to spouses for services including consulting and furndraising, but also “indirect compensation,” such as payments to companies that employ spouses.

The bill passed the House in a voice vote but died in a Senate committee.

Last week, Pelosi’s office defended the payments, saying they were legal because she is compensating her husband at fair market value for the work his firm has performed for the PAC.

Ethical watchdogs called Pelosi’s arrangement “problematic.”

I sent this letter by fax and e-mail to republicans and democrats…

Dear

As a taxpayer I urge you to please VOTE NO in support of this bailout bill today.
I do not see why we should have to bailout the idiots who have created this horrendous mess in our country. No bailout should be made until further investigations have been made.
This money will not solve the current crisis. It is like putting a band aid on a bleeding artery. Until the people are held accountable and punished for the corruption this is only going to repeat itself. Where is the paragraph in this bill that will give any money to the taxpayer who is struggling to keep their homes out of foreclosure? Where is the help to the taxpayer who has lost their job and who is close to bankruptcy due to the predatory lenders? Why are the victims of this crisis being the ones responsible to bail out the criminals?
This bailout should have more transparency, we should use outside panels to oversee this money and not the current people involved. They are the same ones who caused this mess. There should be no parachutes of any sort. We want to see prosecutions on all those involved with this crisis.
I strongly urge you to vote NO on this bill today. I feel you supporting it will be political suicide. We the taxpayers will remember those who vote for this bailout to help their own political career.

Respectfully,

#39 mlhath on 10.01.08 at 10:08 am

I have been looking forward to an October suprise. It better be soon and it had better be good. I live in PA which is a major battleground state. I have only seen one McCain ad. The one with the shadow overtaking a map of the country. Not so good.

On the other hand, O has several where he is looking into the camera and giving his hope, change message. I have gotten to the point where I quickly change the channel or mute when he begins. But it is COMPELLING.

Okay everyone, I am afraid. I am very afraid.

My small town and surrounding towns are literally covered in Obama signs. Obama has 4-page flyers in our LOCAL newspapers. Some woman who lives 2 hours away from me called last night as a “neighbor” to try see if I would support Obama. When I told her I would never vote for him, she said, “Well, if you don’t like him…but for me it is about the issues.” I said “No, I don’t like him, but it is about the issues for me also. Where does Obama stand on the issues? He was for gun control, now he is against it; he was for campaign financing, now he is against it; etc.. etc..” Then she proceeded to tell me that by voting for McCain I am voting for 4 more years of Bush because McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time. When I told her that Obama voted with bush 88% of the time, she had no idea. When I told her that Obama has taken huge money, 49 times more money than McCain, from the banking industry she told me that this financial crisis is the fault of republicans. When I told her about the caucus fraud she said, “Oh, so you were a Hillary supporter.” I told her this has nothing to do with Hillary and everything to do with a candidate who was selected, not elected. When I told her about Obama’s ties to terrorists, she said, “Oh, you mean back when he was really young.” I said, “No, now.” I told her that Obama kicked his campaign off at the home of Ayers. She accused me of having false information. I offered her links to websites and she refused. There is no reasoning with these people.

Then I read this over at noquarter this morning about Obama’s plans for our kids educations. It is very troubling:

http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/09/30/national-horror-101/

Anyway, sorry for the long post. It seems that I am totally surrounded by Obama supporters and no matter what I do they are not listening. There are two, yes only two, McCain signs in my area. We need Puma flyers in all the local papers around here. How do we do that and how much would it cost?

Now, this whole moderator Gwen Ifill being the moderator of the debate tomorrow night is really another feather in obama’s cap. dont you think?

When asked what media, magazines does Sarah Pailin read LOLOLOLOLO Palin was brilliant not to name any

I had posted on the Washington Post that Obama had a narcissitic disorder back in early summer. Nobody picked up on it and I was called among other things a Neocon. Ha!

Anyway, I read the posts about the alternative bailout proposal by those two house Dems. They sound like they know what they’re talking about.

I hope McCain and his campaign get a gander at their proposal. The No Bailout, Bailout. Why reward bad behavior?

Murphy’s right. People who have more than $100 grand, already spread their money around.

I think their strategy is so those same people will infuse $150 grand more, to shore up these banks. It’s therefore not for the people but for the banks. Nice the way they spin it.

Murphy, you haven’t answered my question over two weeks ago about the documentary film Brad Mays is making with contribution from PUMA PAC. Why release the film after general election, it doesn’t have an impact anymore? That documentary film must be release before general election. If PUMA PAC is contributing money in making this film, you’re the executive producer, why not release it this month?

Good morning everyone. I haven’t posted in a while, but I read every night and feel deeply relieved you are out there/here.
This is a bit off message, but did anyone happen to catch that Obama video produced by public school children (gorgeous voices) painting Obama into this godlike creature. As a teacher, It made my blood run cold. I woke to try and send to my friends and family but, it has been yanked from the Internet. This Deification of Obama is truly bizarre. I am sure many of you have seen this link
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/22/new-obama-video-american_n_120622.html.
My brain goes back in history over and over to when this has happened in various countries with horrifically painful impact. I am sure most of you know exactly the regimes I am talking about.
Also I wanted to ask if anyone else is being harassed on their cell by the Obama campaign. Somehow they have gotten my number and I have been called non stop by the most ignorant idiots I have ever spoken to in my life. I don’t know what rock they have crawled out from under.
The peculiar tactic they are doing now is calling asking for my father (who is a Republican supporting Obama argh!). How in the world did they marry up my father’s name to my cell?! I have let them know they have the wrong number and then they launch into the Obama crap. Finally, I gave up and said yes you have his support just to get them to stop!
I am stout and I can hold my own, but I am seriously worried about those who arnt and think they must do what these calls are telling them they must do. That is vote for Obama or else!

However, I am again sending the reasons for my objections, especially to Janet Brown. Perhaps they can use Gwen’s broken ankle as an excuse to replace her.

#74 TexasTigress on 10.01.08 at 10:31 am

Wait – here’s my 2 cents on the Ifill situation –
1) If Palin screws up , Ifill will get to be blamed for being biased

2) If there is a lot of complaining about Ifill , won’t that look like Palin is incapable of handling a tough situation and be used against her ?

Just think about it …

Sistermoon and Osaka,

Take heart!

My best guess is that the McCain and Palin are keeping their powder dry and waiting until they have the largest audience possible on Thursday night to take direct aim at The One, his Bumblin’ VP and the in-the-tank Media.

People who learn how to pilot fighters jets and stare down moose know a wee bit about timing and when to squeeze their triggers in order to effectively hit their targets.

I just learned from Greta on fox that she had contacted the McCain camp to ask them did they know about the book when they accepted Gwen as the moderator and they did not know about the book at the time as im sure it was sometime back this was agreed upon.

Actually, this election is flooded with enough racism already that it would probably hurt McCain more if they did ask for a new moderator. CNN and the other bias media would have a field day with it.

Thank you Murphy.

What we can do right now to stop NObama is calling people we know and ask them to call people they know too (networking), send emails of info about NObama to all people in our mailing lists. This is crucial time for all of us, none of us want NObama in the WH, that is like hiring an arsonist to put out the fire.

The media are in the tank for NObama, at least 90% of them. You don’t hear any of them talk about donation NObama received from HAMAS.

A few days ago, I was in conservative BTR show. I told them in the room I am not a conservative and will never be a conservative, but in this election I’d be with them to defeat NObama. When it comes to conservatism I made it clear to them, I part with them, the same way I parted with Hillary when it comes to NObama.

OK, I have to go to work now but will be back this afternoon and plan on contacting the media-

I was out last night w/ a mixed group of liberals and conservatives- get this- no one knew about ACORN- not what it is nor the earmarks in the bill.

And guess what? The liberals had no idea about McCain’s proposal in 05 re: Fannie and Freddie.

It is outrageous what the media does and does not report- I think we must pressure them to do more honest reporting-

This is getting nuts

p.s. I am in Phoenix- I plan to run into McCain’s office today on 16th St and tell them that PUMAs demand more vocalization from the McCain camp!

my letter to Ms. Brown regarding Ifill:

Dear Ms. Brown,

In light of the recent reports of Gwen Ifill’s book on Obama and her obvious political bias, I respectfully request that Ms. Ifill recuse herself from the Vice Presidential debates on Thursday. There have already been enough accusations of bias on both sides and I’m sure that your organization would want to be viewed as having moderated a fair and honest debate much as Jim Lehrer did last week in the Presidential debate.

The discussion the day after the Presidential debate was rightly about the debate discussion, not the moderator. I would like to seem the same aftermath for the VP debate.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

Thanks for getting the e-mail. If they are bombarded by Pumas, they will not know what to do or where to hide. I have not written a letter to the editor to them because I am tired of all the crap I am getting. My sister refuses to speak to me, I lost a friend of 35 years, my sisters-in-law are angry with me. And honestly, I try not to be “in your face.” Usually, I just e-mail people links that I find important. No one wants to listen. I think Pumas could have a huge impact.

Texas, I thought about that too…however, it’s all about perception – that initial impression to the American People. If Ifill is biased and Palin screws up, the American people (given their short attention spans these days) will only see that Palin screwed up, regardless of what Ifill did.

The American people don’t like “excuses” or “victimhood”. And on Friday, I don’t want to have to defend Sarah based on Ifill’s bias. I want to be “in your face” with the O supporters when Sarah smacks down Biden. :lol”

On another note; pray for Sarah to have the strength & knowledge to just be herself. That’s what we want, someone to just be honest for a change. After all, the “experienced” goats are the ones that have us in the current mess we’re in. Why the hell would we trust them to get us OUT of it NOW??? Just sayin’.

Good Morning, PUMAs.

As some of you know, I’m a HS Librarian. Since this is Banned Books Week – where we try to make people aware of books that have been or are being banned in this country, a colleague at my school sent me the name of 90 books that Palin was supposed to have banned when she was mayor of Wasilla. Well, I checked it out on several websites one of which is snopes and of course this is false. I sent the websites to my colleague. Yesterday I had a run in with two of my teachers who wanted me to take a magazine out of the library because they thought it was advocating the joining of hate groups (it was in fact informing the public of the existence of hate groups…). I am ovewhelmed with the incredible stupidity of my colleagues and I wonder how McCain will win and BO will lose with so many stupid people in this country.
Maybe this would be a good time for me to start planning a move to Canada?

This entire “Bailout mega-bill” needs to be completely scrapped and start completely over with people that are rational and know something about what they are doing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are making it even worse than it was before. Sure the upping of the FDIC to $250,000 if about the only acceptable piece in it. And it is beyond me why they are hellbent to pass this mega-bill instead of breaking it up into the acceptable sections that actually help the people on mainstreet. and then they’re adding stuff like this “Blunt also said he believes there’s a better chance of getting the legislation enacted in the wake of a move to ease Security and Exchange Commission accounting rules in a way that would give businesses more leeway in how they value their assets.” that make it even worse and send the market inflation valuing out of control more than it was that got us here.
Instead of regulating and taking responsible control over the markets they are giving free rein to it and want to buy up the bad assests so that these banks etc. can continue to issue credit more and more and do it all over again.

If you look at the Dow graphs of the 1920′s and the 1990′s it is the same. The markets rising unchecked and uncorrected the whole time because of the free flowing credit and free flowing Big Party everyone was having, acting like a crack addict needing always more more more. And this can’t happen to go one unchecked and uncorrected in order to have a stable economy. And then all during the Bush term it has looked like a arrhythmic heart EKG trying to correct itself from the exsesses of the 90′s and balance itself out but it’s been keep from doing that the whole time by stupidity. Anytime the market goes past the 200% increase level it must corrected itself or you have this type of situation. So it needs to correct and slow down the never ending uphill movement but by keeping it from correcting and the greed that fuels the restricting of the correction you get financial crisis.
They need to stop this major push of this bill and let the markets correct themselves and businesses to fail that have caused this and implement safety nets for the people and not the market and the fatcat companies/people that are making billions of this. By pushing this piece of mega-garbage through they are setting us up to continue this heart attack economy going and for a much much bigger CRASH in the next year or 2. The thing is the market wants to correct from these excesses of greed in very large step but if they want to do anything they need to allow it to correct under restrictions and regulations is smaller more tolerant steps instead of all these major ups and downs. And what they are doing is not going to accomplish this it will keep the Party going so we are hurt even harder and more.

They need to STOP, Regroup, and Rethink and not just want to get something done so they can go campaigning. They need to deal with small steps now and come back in Dec and deal with more small steps and Jan with some more small steps. But by trying to pass this mega-bill all at once is going to create a much much bigger problem.

#117 greenfun on 10.01.08 at 10:57 am

It looks like FOX has been exposing more on the BO ACORN connection and voter fraud. I think another area that needs our attention is BO’s questionable fundraising-finally it has been coming under closer scrutiny. If anyone has more links or info-please post.
——————–

It looks like those suspicions were well founded and the reality is mind-boggling. The crew at Atlas Shrugs has been doing yoeman’s work at going through Barack’s donations and have found:
$10,450 for Good Will, employed by ‘Loving You’ in over 900 entries
$24,321.41 from someone in a Gaza Refugee camp (from a refugee camp?? Yeah, right!)
$10,780 in 1,044 transactions from DOODAD PRO, working for FDGFDGF
The unreachable and/or non-existent Dr. Okechukwu Dimpka for $4,718.
Note that each of these amounts is greater than that which is allowed. There are any number of odd patterns to be found, like the ‘unemployed’ Jeanne McCrudey, who actually works at CBS, is a HuffPo contributor and made hundreds of contributions. A Rebbecca Kurth made 34 donations in a single day. (I’ll pass on my suspicion on this one. These people may have set up Pay Pal accounts and are accepting contributions from anywhere, then ‘bundling’ them- illegally- under their own names.)
And then there’s this compilation of the odds and ends, including plenty of amounts exceeding legal limits. All in all, a picture of massively illegal fund-raising going on here.

Gwen Ifill knew she was in the tank for Obama when she accepted the job, she should have had more integrity than to accept. She should in all due respect remove herself from the debate tomorrow. These Obama people really have it all sewn up. There has to be some poetic justice somewhere left to counteract this conspiracy. Nancy P should be removed from her position also along with Bernie Frank and the SEC person. Why reward them for their greed?

Our future is uncertain, democracy is being slowly eradicated and socialist ideas are devouring our once great country.

She does this daily, without fail. She also believes that her generation will be the ones responsible for the destruction of our country. Needless to say, I am very proud of her!

Sarah Palin Friday in Dallas

A Sarah Palin supporter sent me an e-mail this morning and asked for my help. She said Sarah Palin is to be in Dallas at Fairmont Hotel Friday afternoon.
Far left (gay newspaper The Voice promoted) is planning huge protest of her, supposedly led by feminists. Please call right now the Mike Galagher show 1800-655-MIKE and ask them about it. Mike is conservative talk show host. We want supporters of Sarah to show up and show support! Please alert other Sarah Palin supporters. We don’t want her detractors to get all the publicity!

Palin to adress Hispanic group in Dallas
11:14 AM Tue, Sep 30, 2008 | Permalink | Yahoo! Buzz
Gromer Jeffers Jr. E-mail News tips

Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is scheduled to make a “special appearance” Friday at a Dallas meeting of Hispanic activists.
The meeting and briefing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the Fairmont Hotel. It also appears to be a fund-raiser, since the invitation asks for a suggested donation of $100.
Palin, the governor of Alaska, is also scheduled to have a luncheon fund-raiser at the Fairmont fo the Republican National Committee.
The events are set for the day after her critical debate with Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden.
http://www.dallasvoice.com/artman/publish/article_9821.php
“But the thing that galls me the most is that Sarah Palin is a female pawn, chosen to be manipulated by men to continue to oppress women and to take away their right to choose. She is just so not representative of the women that live in this house or the women that we know,” said Meifert, who lives with her partner, chef and bakery owner Phil Aceto.

Sarah Palin
Meifert said that based on response she has gotten so far, she is hoping for 200 to 300 people to participate in the protest that will take place somewhere near the Fairmont Hotel, located on Akard Street. She said she is currently working with Dallas Police to determine what if any special permits would be needed and where the protest could be held.

“There is a sidewalk across the street from the hotel, and I think a small park just down the street. We are working on that right now,” she said.

Meifert said she is asking those who plan to attend and who will be making signs to carry to “stick to [LGBT equality] and a woman’s right to choose.”

“The truth is, very few women are actually for Sarah Palin,” Meifert said. “And we want a large female turnout for this protest. But we are also getting a big response from a lot of men who say they want to be there, too. Our 82-year-old neighbor will be there and is bringing five friends from church.”

Meifert said anyone interested in more information or in helping organize the protest can contact her by e-mail at meifert11@yahoo.com.

that to me is capitulating to the worse type of sexist thinking

Mick #104

YES. If a bailout bill fails it will affect me personally.

1. The Repubs will continue to HAMMER the ACORN and Fannie/Freddie fiasco, effectively tying Obama to the root cause of the financial crisis.
2. This means JUST before the election, voters will be going in to the booth disgusted with Obama more than they are disgusted with McCain.
3. This means Obama will lose.
4. This means I will be happy.

5. Also, my inner class-warrior heart will be soothed watching Billionaire Boiz be forced to pay for their ineptitude and colossal incompetence.

but that last is rawther petty on my part.

if the banks fail, I wont be personally affected financially. We’ll all feel side effects and secondary effects.

However,it is extremely unclear what those side effects might turn out to be.

24 emme McCain’s letter suggests “dire consequences of inaction” I find that pathetically disgusting.
It’s credit, and ‘financing’ that got us in this mess. If Sonic Corp. wants to rebuild, start new chains or add equipment, they should do it the old-fashioned way—-wait until they have made enought money to do so.
If they lose money it will just be their loss and not put some bank in the position of having to assume the risk and it’s consequences.
But, of course, banks are in the business of lending money. Other peoples’ money.
I find it so strange that what is considered ‘good business’ today is the same thing that created the mess and would have been abhored by my parents’ and grandparents’ generations.
The more I hear of McCain/Palin, the less I want to vote for ANYONE. Surely there must be something better to do that day than going to the voting booths.
NO DAMN BAILOUT!!!! I don’t give a sh*t if you are A Senator….you can still be voted AGAINST!!!

SONIC COMMENTS ON GE CAPITAL FINANCING FOR FRANCHISEES

OKLAHOMA CITY (September 26, 2008) – Sonic Corp. (NASDAQ: SONC), the nation’s largest chain of drive-in restaurants, today commented on remarks in the media concerning GE Capital and the reported pullback it is making in financing for franchisees. Sonic clarified that during the past year GE Capital provided less than 10% of the lending to its franchisees. GE is just one of many lenders who finance Sonic franchisees and, in fact, many franchisees maintain access to other diversified sources of financing. Furthermore, Sonic has not received any notification from GE Capital, either directly or indirectly, that it will stop financing new loans to Sonic franchisees.

About Sonic

Sonic, America’s Drive-In, originally started as a hamburger and root beer stand in 1953 in Shawnee, Okla., called Top Hat Drive-In, and then changed its name to Sonic in 1959. The first drive-in to adopt the Sonic name is still serving customers in Stillwater, Okla. Sonic has more than 3,400 drive-ins coast to coast, where more than a million customers eat every day. I have a job, no health insurance, no retirement, I already lost everything in the Enron deal in Texas. I could really give a flying fk whether they pass this or not. IMHO.

I have always worked one or two jobs, paid my own way thru college, raised my kids by myself, they paid their own way thru college with my help, never asked for any assistance, never got child support. I probably will not see my own social security. I hope all the Ceo’s are investigated and charges brought against them.

I think you may be right about a set-up…..
BUT I do believe she is so politically pure at heart, and by that I do not mean inexperienced, I mean she is not of the politically entreched, she is a regular person and a smart one at that. I saw an interview this morning, it was with a gentleman that has aided many democrats with their debate prep. He said, Sarah Palin is not getting enough credit, I have watched her debate tapes and she is a stellar debater, remember also that she went up against the old politicians in Alaska and cleaned house.

If it’s Biden’s nuts you want, I am sure she will be able to dish those right up, I really believe that, get out the silver platter Ifill, rocky mountain oysters will be the appetizers for the evening!

I was really liking Sarah. Until I heard what one of my best friends had to say.
He is a full blooded Haida native from alaska and he told me how unsupportive and apathetic she is toward the native Alaskans. She wanted to replace a Athabascan woman who had a held aWildlife Management position for 25 years, and finally relented after the outcry. She favors giving the oil companies and white people whatever favors there are to bestow, but does nothing to protect the fragile life systems of the natives.
I can’t remember the native word they use for her but it wasn’t anything nice. But, then, it’s become a white world and not too many people give a damn about native americans. And they pretty much feel the same way except if you visit a casino or eat fish.

osaka–thanks for the response, this has become a chess games where all of the bad guys are winning not based upon their qualifications but on their lack there of.

Neither Sara Palin nor Senator Clinton should had/have to endure the mistreatment that they have gone/going through. If they decide to play ball in the boy’s club they should be able to stand the heat and at the same time the game sould be played with respect and fairness.

In my opinion, no one on the other hand should be criticized for their own personal beliefs, Sara Palin said that she does not wear her faith on her sleeve and is not asking anyone to think or believe as she does. Why penalize the woman by protesting against her considering all of the dirt on Obie and he has a clean slate?

Just read this at Berg’s website re Barry not being a citizen. I just called and left a message.
We really need everyone to get on board with this!!! On several other blogs they encouraged people to call the National Enquirer to ask them to run the Philip Berg lawsuit story in their publication. We all kept meeting with resistance by the same woman who refused to put us through to a manager/supervisor and claimed she was a reporter for the Enquirer. She made a lot of inappropriate comments/questions like “why do you hate Obama so much?” When I, and others tried to explain this wasn’t about Obama so much as preserving the Constitution of the United States, she summarily dismissed us all and basically hung up on us. I contacted, via a back door, a “higher up” with the National Enquirer and told him what had happened and asked him to cover the Berg case. He was unaware of the case. I gave him the http://www.obamacrimes.com website and he said he will look into it. However, we need thousands of people to call this Editor to state they want the lawsuit to be covered, so he doesn’t think it is only a small group of people who want this. The Editor’s name is Barry Levine and his phone number is 646-935-6042. That is his direct phone number. So, everyone, please call Mr. Levine and ask him to run this story!

Husband of Sarah Palin is from Inupiat tribe. Eskimos in Alaska received all kinds of benefits from the state which native Americans in lower 48 never received from their local government.

mountain song, have you ever read Sarah Palin’s accomplishments or her decisions made on Native American, i was married to a Native American, all 3 of my sons are Native America as far as carrying their cards and for school enrollments etc because we usually do go by our father’s nationality here. The only time, only time any black person in office brings up Hispanics or Native Americans is when they are wanting votes, go check Obama’s records, hell, nothing matters to them but they themselves, im just talking about the politicians running for office so dont paint my statement with a broad brush.

The Obamas’ charitable giving is consistent with Wright’s talking Left while living Right. Obama and his wife are quite well off. They had an estimated income of $US1.2 million from 2000 to 2004. But the man who preaches compassion and mutuality gave all of 1 per cent of that income to charity during those years. Most of that went to Wright’s church.

I admire all that so many in here are doing. With so many voices being noisy, they can’t avoid the roar of the pumas! I would, however, like to add something. Please, if you personally don’t believe this way, just skip over this and don’t take offense at it. I, personally, an a strong believer in the power of prayer. There is no medical reason why I am alive today. For anyone interested, you can read my miracle story at:

http://library.fuchssupport.info/My_Miracle_Story.html

If this offends you, please just “blip” past this post… however, if you, like myself, am a believer in prayer I would like to strongly suggest that each day between now nov 4 (uncluding that day) you throw up a prayer about this election. It only takes a second. If you light candles, please light one at least once a week between now and then about this. This is such an important election…. we need to cover every base we can. The puma group is doing so much; for those of us who also believe in prayer power, let’s not leave that step undone.

For anyone that is trying to contact their Senators and Reps.

You can still get through to the Senators emailing, but the House server is still down and clog. If trying to get to a Rep. is nearly isn’t possible and if you do get to the site page it takes “hours” to move between pages…..It took 3 hours of pages just hanging there and moving very slowly before I finally got the message through.

It’s important to contact the Senators and Reps. today about the mega bailout bill because they think we are so inbfavor of it saying that the comments have gone from 95% against to a 50-50 now…….it’s 50-50 because they can get through on the server being down.

My best guess is that both McCain and Palin are keeping their powder dry and waiting until they have the largest audience possible on Thursday night to take direct aim at The One, his Bumblin’ VP and the in-the-tank Media.

Did Obama rig the VP debate??????
_______________________________________
A Debate ‘Moderator’ in the Tank for Obama
By Michelle Malkin

My dictionary defines “moderator” as “the nonpartisan presiding officer of a town meeting.” On Thursday, PBS anchor Gwen Ifill will serve as moderator for the first and only vice presidential debate. The stakes are high. The Commission on Presidential Debates, with the assent of the two campaigns, decided not to impose any guidelines on her duties or questions.

But there is nothing “moderate” about where Ifill stands on Barack Obama. She’s so far in the tank for the Democratic presidential candidate, her oxygen delivery line is running out.

In an imaginary world where liberal journalists are held to the same standards as everyone else, Ifill would be required to make a full disclosure at the start of the debate. She would be required to turn to the cameras and tell the national audience that she has a book coming out on Jan. 20, 2009 — a date that just happens to coincide with the inauguration of the next president of the United States.

The title of Ifill’s book? “The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.” Nonpartisan my foot.

Random House, her publisher, is already busy hyping the book with YouTube clips of Ifill heaping praise on her subjects, including Obama and Obama-endorsing Mass. Gov. Deval Patrick. The official promo for the book gushes:

“In ‘The Breakthrough,’ veteran journalist Gwen Ifill surveys the American political landscape, shedding new light on the impact of Barack Obama’s stunning presidential campaign and introducing the emerging young African American politicians forging a bold new path to political power… Drawing on interviews with power brokers like Sen. Obama, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Vernon Jordan, the Rev. Jesse Jackson and many others, as well as her own razor-sharp observations and analysis of such issues as generational conflict and the ‘black enough’ conundrum, Ifill shows why this is a pivotal moment in American history.”

Ifill and her publisher are banking on an Obama/Biden win to buoy her book sales. The moderator expected to treat both sides fairly has grandiosely declared this the “Age of Obama.” Can you imagine a right-leaning journalist writing a book about the “stunning” McCain campaign and its “bold” path to reform timed for release on Inauguration Day — and then expecting a slot as a moderator for the nation’s sole vice presidential debate?

Yeah, I just registered 6.4 on the Snicker Richter Scale, too.

Despite the protestations of her colleagues that she will be fair, Ifill has appeared on numerous radio and TV talk shows over the past several months to cash in on her access to the Obama campaign. She recently penned a fawning cover story on the Obamas for Essence magazine that earned much buzz. The title? “The Obamas: Portrait of an American Family.” A sample of Ifill’s hard-hitting investigative journalism, illustrated with Kennedy-esque photos of the Obamas and children posing at home on the back porch and by the piano:

“Barack Obama is sitting in the back of his rented luxury campaign bus with its granite counters and two flat-screen TVs. The Illinois senator’s arms are wrapped around his wife, Michelle, whom he doesn’t get to see much these days. At this very moment he is, of all things, singing.”

During the Democratic National Convention, Ifill offered her neutral analysis on NBC News before Michelle Obama’s speech: “A lot of people have never seen anything that looks like a Michelle Obama before. She’s educated, she’s beautiful, she’s tall, she tells you what she thinks and they hope that she can tell a story about Barack Obama and about herself.”

During the Republican National Convention, the PBS ombudsman fielded numerous complaints about Ifill’s coverage of Sarah Palin’s speech. Wrote Brian Meyers of Granby, Ct.:

“I was appalled by Gwen Ifill’s commentary directly following Gov. Sarah Palin’s speech. Her attitude was dismissive and the look on her face was one of disgust. Clearly, she was agitated by what most critics view as a well-delivered speech. It is quite obvious that Ms. Ifill supports Obama as she struggled to say anything redemptive about Gov. Palin’s performance. I am disappointed in Ms. Ifill’s complete disregard for journalistic objectivity.”

Like Obama, Ifill, who is black, is quick to play the race card at the first sign of criticism. In an interview with the Washington Post a few weeks ago, she carped: “[N]o one’s ever assumed a white reporter can’t cover a white candidate.”

It’s not the color of your skin, sweetie. It’s the color of your politics. Perhaps Ifill will be able to conceal it this week. But if the “stunning” “Breakthrough” she’s rooting for comes to pass on Jan. 20, 2009, nobody will be fooled.

This might be a long shot.. but I hear a lot of dissatisfaction with the low key McCain campaign.

If anyone has some extra time, I think it is a good idea to bombard Meghan McCain’s blog to let her know what we think of her dads campaign – be polite and constructive, her blog has lots of behind the scenes photos. After all, she has a direct line to the man himself. She’s the only person from what I read, that moderates her blog..
http://www.mccainblogette.com/

Now with Obama pulling ahead of key states (no longer neck to neck folks), it is all the more crucial. It looks bleak – we have to try harder.

#257 thecandypoem on 10.01.08 at 12:16 pm

It is unfair for Gwen Ifill to moderate the VP debate, since she has a great deal to gain from an Obama victory. Her book, titled “The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama,” is due to be released on January 20th, 2009, on Presidential Inauguration Day. She will have a blockbuster in all the bookstores if Obama wins.

From Amazon.com editorial review: “In THE BREAKTHROUGH, veteran journalist Gwen Ifill surveys the American political landscape, shedding new light on the impact of Barack Obama’s stunning presidential campaign and introducing the emerging young African American politicians forging a bold new path to political power. ”

It is time for Gwen Ifill to recuse herself from the debate. She has a dog in this fight. There must be an impartial moderator, one who has nothing to lose or to gain. Ifill is rooting for Obama, and banking on an Obama victory.

This might be a long shot.. but I hear a lot of dissatisfaction with the low key McCain campaign.
————————–
worth teh try. There’s also a list of McCain Campaign contacts on the Alerts page in the Action Center…. need to keep blasting them to fire up.

Limbaugh hammering the Gwen Ifill conflict of interest on the radio now…

…pointing out how clearly biased Gwen is, based on pro-Michelle comments at the Dem convention and snarky anti-Sarah comments after her speech at the Repub convention.

I went to a site that was on the New York Times that showed wich Democrats voted against the first bail-out bill and I was suprised to see John Lewis voted no I think the longer they focus on this the better for BO.Now I am wondering how many other super dels voted against it.

#272 slyt2 on 10.01.08 at 12:25 pm

UH OH Bill must have gotten himself in trouble on those shows he went on talking about Palin and McCain because now he is out campaigning for BO… in Florida…Where’s the barf bag.. who has the barf bag I need it quick.

#260 TexasTigress –

Thank You for writing to

I am on it too… in fact I am sending Meghan McCain the info on the VP Moderator , Gwen. They need to do something, otherwise, with each day it is one notch for Obama, it is a very sickening feeling.

Ok I’ve got a few more to go then I can tackle these newspapers what exactly is going on with them. To lazy to look up the post so can it be reposted or can someone just directed me to where it is or just tell me again… Thanks

#284 admin on 10.01.08 at 12:32 pm

TT — I hear you and agree. Think of it like this:

THE PUMA PAC WAY
1. Make a LOT of noise so the media HEARS us
2. Assume that the Powers That Be will ignore us
3. Assume that our predictions will come to pass (i.e. Ifill WILL be a biased moderator)
4. On the morning after, our message: that Ifill was biased will have influenced and CHANGED the media narrative of what happened. They will say, “Well, many claimed before the debate that Ifill would be biased. In last night’s debate she DID seem to go after Palin more than Biden. What do you think Juan? Was Ifill a fair moderator?”

and then, just as you TT pointed out earlier, the story becomes that Palin did extremely well IN SPITE of a biased moderator.

It’s like the sexism against Hillary during the primaries. there MOST CERTAINLY WAS a sexist onslaught against her — one that weakened and undermined her candidacy. No Question.

HOWEVER, if the Puma Movement had not sprung up in response to that sexism, it would have been PERMANENTLY WHITEWASHED from the history of the Dem Primaries.

We are the ones no one was expecting. the ones who aren’t going away; arent going to forget; and arent going to be silent anymore. and we ARE going to vote.

If it weren’t for the Pumas, the onslaught against Palin would have been unmitigated. If it werent for us, the DONC could be claiming UNITY and completing their destruction of Hillary Clinton. Howard and Nancy could be looking forward to being reelected.

They KNOW we’re out here, and they KNOW their jobs are in the balance.

We’re setting the table for the post-debate spin — just like you said earlier.

#285 hillary2008 on 10.01.08 at 12:33 pm

Plin’s numbers drop from 52% TO 37% WHO THINK SHE IS CAPABLE. I think that number will change after Thursday. That was reported on Fox.

#286 TexasTigress on 10.01.08 at 12:33 pm

SLY – those papers are in a critical area and they have been very slanted towards Obama- we are asking them to report on some facts about him and providing them with links .

#287 Worker Bee on 10.01.08 at 12:34 pm

Unrelated to topic, but related to everything current, this thought from the Internet:

Food for Thought

“Much is made of McCain’s age. Has anyone brought up
the fact that Obama smokes and both of his parents died at an early age.
Plus Biden has had two brain aneurysms which could have killed him. If
they both died while in office that would leave Nancy Pelosi as president.
I can’t think of a better reason to vote for McCain & Palin.”

The New Mexico list is obviously not one that Bobram compiled. Someone posted it to the blog and I uploaded right away because we needed it at the time.

REPOST from LAST NIGHT — PBS MAY BE FAR MORE BIAS THAN WE THINK…..

PBS BROADCASTER and Schumann Center for Media and Democracy President, Bill Moyers, is a trustee of the Open Society Institute’s Board of Directors. The network of Soros foundations – the most prominent of which is the Open Society Institute – supports a wide array of leftist groups and causes.

The OPEN SOCIETY IS George Soros organization and brainchild. This was from a few years ago but I believe nothing has changed. Need I say more about Gwen Ifill or PBS??

Golden parachute must be remove from Bailout Bill. Microsoft don’t have golden parachute for their executives. Bill Gates founder of Microsoft received $1.00/year salary from his own company when he was a CEO. My nephew work for microsoft, his perks is in the form of stocks which microsoft employees all enjoy. In fact microsoft have created a lot of millionaires working for the company from secretaries down the line. You can’t see the same thing in other companies wherein only people at the top of the organization get rich, those below executive don’t get diddly squat. Microsoft shares prosperity of the company with its employees; Fannie and Freddie only the executives got rich with their schemes and now taxpayers are expected to bail them out. I say, let them file for bankcruptcy and put in jail all executives who have committed malversation that includes people in Congress and Senate who have committed the same crime, corrupting taxpayer’s money.

Dances with PUMA -

We know you’ve done a tremendous job already.

I wonder if you can put an excel list ( in addition) together by column category. For example one column with just media, one with senators… etc.

When doing prowls, we can just copy all the email addresses at once and paste it on the BCC. We don’t have to copy and paste from each alphabet category. The Action Cntr is is beautifully done. I think just an additional format would be great to cut down time for those stealing time to do it at work.

This is not a critique – just a request for an additional format.

#254 monap….I have been waiting too…since Hillary was running….The corruption and manipulation with the BO campaign is astounding….I just got home for lunch and had a message from the BO campaign about the truth squad here in PA…It was the same voice of the woman who called during the primary…screeching about the lies that people will hear about BO and how they are not true!! I wonder why they are so concerned about the truth….probably because they are afraid people will find out that these things are really true. ….He who protests too much….WE HAVE TO STOP THIS BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!!

Why is McCain so afraid of BO??….What does he have to lose by exposing him??….He needs to give it all he has right now!!!

My sister retired from NBC last year. She knows Gwen Ifil. She said that even though she has written a book, that you couldn’t find any journalist more objective than Ifil. She feels confident that she will be great as the moderator — and fair.
We are going to look bad asking for her to be replaced — replaced with who???? someone who favors McCain? someone “objective” — maybe we would have to go down under in Australia to find a pygmy who is objective.
There is no such person. We need to live with Ifil — and if she comes across as mean or biased or whatever, then we can bring up the fact that she wrote a book, etc etc.
But I firmly believe we are hurting our cause by asking for her to be replaced.

Times are very different these days – we are not in Kansas any more. Under ordinary times, I would have faith in most everone unless they prove otherwise.

Obama followers cannot be expected to be fair and unbiased and we cannot leave this to the outside chance that Ms Gwen will be. No reply to this post is needed – we need to go forward with the prowl.

The McCain HQ in Virginia knows about this issue now. We need to ask to speak to the campaign manager ( not the nice volunteer that picks up the phone )- when we call.

Murphy,

I check out one time Anti-Puma site, I was laughing so hard. Those people are so paranaoid, they thought we’re like NObama paid bloggers who goes to CNN ticker and post their idiotic POV using different name. It is NObama supporters of impersonating so many characters and names it reminds me of the song by George Benson “Masquerade.

If you go to ticker of CNN all you see are NObama paid bloggers using different names, their line is so obvious. They must have it in wordpad, just copy/paste it.

I posted one time in CNN ticker, it was against NObama, they never posted it. What I’ve cited was plain and simple facts I’ve gathered about him.

#366 Alice on 10.01.08 at 1:26 pm

I still believe we are making a big mistake in asking for Ifil to be replaced. What are we going to do if they replace her with Chris Matthews or Olbermann? Sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for.
They haven’t written a book — but they are still biased. So what excuse will we use to ask for them to be removed as moderator? I still want to know who you think Ifil should be replaced with?? Who IS objective???

#367 mick on 10.01.08 at 1:27 pm

My thoughts …

WE SHOULD NOT WANT TO REPLACE GWEN IFILL!!

First, no matter how much we protest, I don’t think that Gwen will be replaced. BUT what this prowl does is it sets the stage for the media and the pundits to say … “well, considering that Palin was up against a moderator who is an Obama supporter, etc. etc.” ….

Second, this issue will continue to be talked about, (until the debate and after), on conservative blogs and on radio. I know Fox picked up the story already and it won’t be long before CNN will be talking about it to.

Third, I really hope that they DON’T replace Gwen with another moderator because this will work to our advantage. The “Gwen might be biased” thought will be in the mind of the average voter while they watch the debate!! Which is exactly what we want!!!

Regardless, I believe that Palin will do well in this debate. It’s not like this is her first time ever to debate. Yes, the material will be different, but I’m positive that she will be prepared.

Use smoke to get rid of beehive in your backyard, that’s what we use in Asia. BEFORE you do that, close all doors and windows in your house. Then start a small fire wherever that beehive is located, if possible damp grass or branches, they’ll produce a lot of smoke. That will drive the bees away.

Well said, Bravo. Our objective should be getting the word out about her possible bias — but not asking that she be replaced. We might get someone much worse. And if Ifil comes across as anything other than objective, everyone will know upfront why and Ifil will be the one who looks bad — not Palin.

Alice and Mick — they are NOT going to replace Ifill. It’s not going to happen.

Though to answer your question, Lehrer would be a good replacement — I thought he did a fine job in the prez debate. There are zillions of options.

But bottom line — they are NOT going to yank her. It’s just too political now. The Blogger Boiz would go BERZERK!! The white boys would scream RACIST SEXIST PIGS until the purple veins on their pink foreheads BURST.

So, what we are doing is
A. Giving fair warning to the Big Shots that we ARE paying attention. Next time, pick an OBJECTIVE moderator if you dont want to receive an avalanche of emails and calls (makes them look dumb, is annoying to have to delete 500 messages (besides they might accidentally miss an invite for drinks from some other Big Shot)).
B. Establishing the FACT that Ifill is biased. This dampens expectations for Palin — which is a GOOD thing because you are RIGHT, she WILL do fine. (I think she’s gonna SMOKE him) AND heightens expectations for Biden — also a good thing because dont forget — he’s the gaffe-meister. He’s the one more likely to look like an idiot.

You see Folks, today my sock puppets also include Alice and Mick, because I LOVE the challenge of debating with myself. I’m good huh?

The Public Policy
A New Opportunity for McCain
By Peter Ferrara
Published 10/1/2008 12:08:01 AM
According to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the financial crisis is all due to the Bush Administration’s “right wing ideology of anything goes, no supervision, no oversight, no regulation.”

But at a hearing in the House in 2004, now available in video on YouTube, the Republicans sought to expand supervision and regulation, over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Federal regulators testified that the reckless financial practices of these two government-sponsored enterprises threatened the entire financial system. Republican after Republican called for a new regulatory authority to supervise Fannie and Freddie and impose standard bank regulation on them.

Franklin Raines, the former Clinton budget director who went on to serve as chairman and CEO of Fannie Mae, testified that the mortgage-related securities of these two organizations, which have now rocked the entire financial world, were “riskless.” During his tenure, Raines criminally led Fannie Mae to falsify its books so that he would qualify for excessive bonuses and compensation eventually totaling $90 million.

But the Democrats excoriated the Republicans for criticizing the wonderful practices of Fannie and Freddie that had been so successful in achieving their goals of affordable housing. The Republican concerns for safety and soundness were dismissed as trumped up efforts to frame the brilliant leadership of Mr. Raines, and said to show once again that Republicans don’t care about the middle class and the poor. Barney Frank, now chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, foolishly laughed off concerns over safety and soundness without offering any evidence to rebut these concerns. Instead, he shamefully led the Democrats in attacking the regulators, who had provided the evidence that Fannie and Freddie were increasingly threatening the safety and soundness of the entire financial system.

The following year John McCain was one of three co-sponsors of legislation to impose such regulatory supervision and controls over Fannie and Freddie. The Bush Administration supported this as well, in one of its four attempts to win legislative approval for such expanded regulatory authority. But the Democrats shouted these proposals down as an assault on affordable housing for the middle class and the poor.

So it was the Republicans who tried time and again to expand proper regulatory controls to prevent this crisis. And it was the Democrats who stopped them because such regulation threatened their policy of turning Fannie and Freddie into welfare programs. It is Chairman Barney Frank, not SEC Chairman Chris Cox, who should resign for his shameful and stupid role in creating this crisis. And if Franklin Raines is not prosecuted and sent to prison for his naked thievery, then we must let all of the Enron convicts out of jail and issue them a national apology.

Apart from this, there is no other instance in which deregulation or lack of regulation played any significant role in the current crisis. Just what “no regulation” was Nancy Pelosi talking about? Does she want the government to stare over the shoulders of all lenders and tell them what loans they can make and what loans they can’t? Going all the way back to the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977, it is the government led by the Democrats and their “affordable housing” policies that have imposed increasingly onerous regulations on lenders, forcing them to make shaky loans to increasingly dubious borrowers on increasingly lax terms, and it is the failure of precisely these loans that is at the root of the current crisis. These are the people that are now going to save us with wise, judicious supervision and regulation?

On exactly what issue is Nancy Pelosi any more knowledgeable than Sarah Palin? Pelosi can’t nearly match Palin’s expertise on energy policy, nor Palin’s record in cutting taxes and spending. In over 20 years in Congress, the ultra-left San Francisco Democrat has distinguished herself only in the mindless repetition of brain dead political propaganda, such as we saw at the beginning of this commentary.

The Democrats have assailed former Senator Phil Gramm for leading the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act in 1999. But repeal of that outdated regulatory relic from the 1930s, which sought to separate commercial banking from investment banking, has played no role in this financial crisis. Even Clinton’s Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin has said as much. Indeed, exactly to the contrary, repeal of Glass-Steagall has been a major factor helping to counter the crisis. It is precisely that repeal that allowed Bank of America to buy out Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan to buy out Bear Stearns, and Barclays Bank to work on buying up the remains of Lehman Brothers. This silly charge is just old, Soviet style propaganda, completely divorced from reality, calculated to mislead the gullible.

A New Rescue Plan
Fortunately, because Pelosi failed to gain a House majority for the awful Bush/Paulson bailout plan, we have the opportunity for a new short-term rescue plan that would restore markets at little cost to taxpayers. After that, we need a longer-term economic recovery plan to create booming economic growth, which we know how to do.

VP DEBATE MODERATOR RELEASING ‘AGE OF OBAMA’ BOOK ON INAUGURATION DAY

PBS viewer Brian Meyers of Granby, Conn., said he was “appalled” by Ifill’s commentary directly following Palin’s convention speech.

“Her attitude was dismissive and the look on her face was one of disgust,” Meyers said. “Clearly, she was agitated by what most critics view as a well-delivered speech. It is quite obvious that Ms. Ifill supports Obama as she struggled to say anything redemptive about Gov. Palin’s performance.”

The Daily Jot

Daily reporting and analysis of current events from a biblical perspective.

Monday, September 29, 2008

Greetings in the Name of Him Who Is Truth!

Congress is putting its finishing touches on the precedent-setting “Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008,” where the Federal government will take ownership of “any bank, savings association, credit union, security broker or dealer or insurance company” that has “troubled assets.” The bill gives wide-sweeping unprecedented and absolute power to the Treasury Secretary who will designate financial institutions as “financial agents of the federal government,” and will take control of real estate, retirement plans and any financial institution with troubled assets at a price determined solely by the Treasury Secretary. In other words, the Federal government is taking over the economy and nationalizing its assets.

The 110 page bill obtained by the Daily Jot shows that absolutely no elected official will hold oversight on the policies implemented by the Treasury Secretary and courts have extremely limited authority. A Financial Stability Oversight Board consisting of the Federal Reserve Chairman, the Treasury Secretary, the Director of the Federal Home Finance Agency, the Chairman of the Securities Exchange Commission and the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development oversee the actions of the Treasury Secretary and make reports to Congress. The Treasury Secretary is protected from any court jurisdiction as long as he implements the Act in accordance with its provisions and does not violate the US Constitution.

The Act requires the President to appoint an Inspector General to investigate the actions of the Treasury Secretary and gives him a $50 million budget to do it. There is a Congressional Oversight Panel created of Congressmen and Senators that gives them extra pay to read the reports submitted by the Financial Stability Oversight Board. The Act creates a massive federal bureaucracy to manage the economy and allows the same people who created the current economic crisis to manage the bail out. The nationalization of the economy is supposed to end when the last troubled asset is sold by the government or after extension of the Act is justified by the Treasury Secretary.

Homeowners impacted by the Act are subject to the current Federal programs and will be foreclosed on under current regulations, unless they are minorities or are living in Section 8 housing, where in those cases there will be unspecified leniency. The government will take ownership of the property and collect the rent. In short, your property and bank assets are being seized by the Federal government and you have no legal redress. The bill even limits Congressional authority over any disapproval of the Treasury Secretary’s plan. Galatians 5:1 urges, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” The yoke of bondage is fast coming.

Have a Blessed and Powerful Day!

The McKinney Choice

THE PROGRESSIVE, OCTOBER 2008 ISSUE
By Kevin Alexander Gray
http://www. progressive. org/mag/gray1008. html

MENTION TO SOMEONE that you’re thinking about voting for former Georgia
Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney or Ralph Nader and they’ll respond, “So,
you’re voting for McCain!” Or they’ll say, “You’re wasting your vote.

And if you’re black and not planning on voting for Obama, you may be
labeled a “hater” or an “Uncle Tom.” I know.
I’ve been called those
names.
Poet Amiri Baraka, never one to be shy, has labeled all those not
supporting Obama as “rascals.

It doesn’t matter that McKinney is herself African American or that Rosa
Clemente, her running mate on the Green Party ticket, is a hip-hop
activist and an Afro-Puerto Rican.
What matters, for most, is that Obama
represents the first realistic chance for a black American to win the
White House, and that he is better than McCain.

But should those be the overriding considerations?

While Obama is cosmetically attractive, he is still a status quo
politician.
What’s more, he has gone out of his way to disparage members
of the African American community as a way to ingratiate himself with
white voters.
And he sometimes defends the same rightwing positions as
his Republican counterpart, as when Obama supported Bush on the FISA
bill and agreed with Scalia on the D.C. gun ban.

Aside from Obama’s limitations, there’s the question of movement
politics.
If we believe that the two party system rigs the electoral
game, if we believe that corporate money contaminates both parties, and
if we believe change comes from below, then why must we get in line
behind Obama?

With these thoughts in mind, I went out to explore the McKinney
candidacy. McKinney, who served as a Democrat in the U.S.
House of
Representatives for twelve years, left the Democratic Party last year to
join the Greens.
In Congress, she had one of the most progressive
records. And as a Presidential candidate, she offers up a coherent agenda.

In her acceptance speech at the Green Party convention in Chicago on
July 12, she denounced what she called “Democratic Party complicity” in
“war crimes, torture, crimes against the peace” and “crimes against the
Constitution, crimes against the American people, and crimes against the
global community.
” She said, “Those who delivered us into this mess
cannot be trusted to get us out of it.
” She told her supporters, “A
Green vote is a peace vote,” and “A Green vote is a justice vote.

Whether the subject was the Iraq War, or Afghanistan, or Katrina, or
veterans’ rights, or Blackwater, or civil liberties, or the environment,
or universal health care, or equal pay for equal work, or free college
education, or the repeal of the Bush tax cuts, McKinney hit the
progressive high notes.
(But she was a little off key when she indulged
the “9/11 truth” people.
)

“We are in this to build a movement,” she said.
“We are willing to
struggle for as long as it takes to have our values prevail in public
policy.
A vote for the Green Party is a vote for the movement that will
turn this country rightside up.

McKinney’s platform resembles that of Dennis Kucinich, the Ohio
Representative who ran as the most progressive candidate in the
Democratic primaries.
Like Kucinich, McKinney wants an immediate end to
all wars and occupations by U.S.
forces, beginning in Iraq and
Afghanistan; the orderly withdrawal of U.S.
troops from the more than
100 countries around the world where they are stationed; Articles of
Impeachment to be filed against Bush and several members of his
Administration; and the creation of a Department of Peace.
She would
also like to see a number of other Bush initiatives repealed, like the
Patriot Acts, the Secret Evidence Act, and the Military Commissions Act.

Like Obama, McKinney name-drops Martin Luther King a lot.
But whereas
Obama constantly utters King’s line about “the fierce urgency of now,”
McKinney uses King in a different way.
She says “the racial disparities
that exist today are worse than at the time of the murder of King.
” And
she quotes King’s comment that the United States is the “greatest
purveyor of violence on the planet,” saying that it is still true today.

McKinney also adopts positions that Obama won’t go near, such as:
demanding reparations for African Americans, offering amnesty for all
undocumented immigrants, ending “prisons for profit,” and calling off
the “war on drugs.

But having a shiny progressive platform does not guarantee progressive
votes.
I recall a rule of organizing in the 1988 Jesse Jackson campaign:
“Define your own win.
” Reason being: If it’s about who has the most
money, resources, access, etc.
, those going against the flow or those
who are resource poor will always be sold short.
Especially when the
powerful set the rules and call the game.

Running was Shirley Chisholm’s win in 1972.

Jackson’s win was successfully advancing a progressive, multiracial,
multi-issue agenda.

So what’s McKinney’s win?

She says the Greens want to pick up “5 percent of the national vote” in
the coming election with the hope it “confers major party status” on them.

“Then we will have an official third party in this country,” McKinney
said in Chicago, “and public policy that truly reflects our values.

Yet 5 percent may be a tough nut to crack, given the party’s up and down
performances in the past three Presidential elections.

As a Green candidate in 1996, Nader garnered 0.7 percent of the total.

Four years later, he and the party increased their support three-fold,
pulling in 2.
74 percent of the total vote while receiving no electoral
votes.
In 2004, the Greens ran Texan David Cobb under a “safe states
strategy.
” Cobb appeared on twenty-eight of fifty-one ballots, down from
the forty-four Green lines in 2000.
The strategy supposedly focused its
efforts on states that were traditionally “safely” won by the Democratic
candidate, or “safely” won by the Republican candidate, so as not to run
in swing states.
This defensiveness was in reaction to the Nader-haters
of 2000, who still blame Ralph for giving the country George Bush.
Cobb
got an infinitesimal 0.
096 percent of the vote, while Nader as an
Independent picked up 0.38 percent of the total.

This election season the Greens have abandoned the discredited “safe
state strategy,” says Brent McMillan, political director of the party.

Mc-Kinney and Clemente are on the ballot in thirty states, according to
the Green Party.

The party’s national electoral history may prevent McKinney from being
taken seriously by even the angriest of voters.
“It seems that there’s
no in-between game,” says longtime grassroots activist Brett Bursey of
South Carolina.
“The Greens pop up during an election season and that’s
it.
” He and others argue that the election-year “top-down approach” of
choosing big-name candidates like Nader and McKinney rarely lends itself
to the off-year followup that is needed to build an effective national
party.
“It will take more time than running doomed electoral campaigns
that do little more than make the candidates and their few supporters
feel superior,” says Bursey.

Bursey may have a point.
The Greens have a dearth of campaign offices
(local folk where I live in South Carolina don’t know how to get
involved), and there are precious few grassroots volunteers outside of
traditional Green “strongholds.
” Obviously, money matters, and McKinney
and the Greens have very little.

And the Obama candidacy is tricky for the Greens.
“There are some Greens
who won’t support a Green at the top of our ticket today, regardless of
who that person is,” says Gregg Jocoy, of the South Carolina chapter.

“White Greens don’t want to hurt Obama’s chances.

Given these difficulties, the question once again arises: “Why bother?”
To which Clemente replies, “People have to make some clear choices about
which side are they on.
” The goal, she says, is “building the new
imperative.

One can only hope that because McKinney and Clemente are raising
important issues they’re not wasting their and others’ time.

But let me put a word in for being contrary, for refusing to go with
flow, and for rejecting the choices we are given when we have that
opportunity.
Sometimes it is necessary to stand up and say, “I’m not
with that.
” Defying the corrupt two-party corporate system may be one of
those times.

The choice is yours. And mine. And for me, it’s not an easy one.

I think you are mistaken aboout calling haz-mat,
but you do have to be careful when sweeping up a broken one. I would use a hand broom to slowly sweep up the broken bulb. You want to avoid creating airborn mercury dust.

#412 Asian4Hillary on 10.01.08 at 2:05 pm

tennaseepuma, girlsrule

It is making me very very sick. I have a headache that doesn’t go away since I use energy lightbulb three days ago. I finally remove it last night. Mercury is hazardous to health.

Busy day PUMA—–Prowls complete.

Love you guys

The Senate Bill? An improvement? What a joke! So how does the Senate improve the bill? Adds more pork having nothing to do with the situation. This bill needs to be defeated as well. Keep the FDIC insurance increase ..that fits the situation. The rest? Where is Hillary Clinton’s proposal written about in the Wall Street Journal? Where is anything else directly related to the issue? Pathetic. This is how Congress has and is running this country? Pork and earmarks, costing the taxpayer more. This bill needs to be defeated .

#415 DancesWithPumas on 10.01.08 at 2:08 pm

I guess I should go to work now.
See youse. Thanks for a great morning, Pumas!

#416 Bella-Me on 10.01.08 at 2:08 pm

I think its safe to say, the awareness is now out there about Gwen and her book. McCain should have known this way before today. Sometimes I am wondering if McCain is slacking the same way Hillary did there for a while before she fired some of the campaign people and took more of a hands on roll. She surged after taking that action.

Palin lit a match under McCain for the two weeks after the convention, he seems to need another match lit or more like a firecracker! He missed so many opportunities in his debate with Obot. Instead of hitting and jabbing he had enough to have a TKO and he missed it. I hope Palin does not allow her opportunities pass in this debate. Americans like fighters not passive submissive, polite people.

We need to prowl to Palin and McCain to get aggressive and win this election. I am not republican but I sure as heck do not want Obot as our next president.

MURPHY:
I take that as a great compliment to be named with DANCES.

I sent my prowls, but Mathhews, niteline and another came back. However, for Matthews I have hardball@manbc.com and I sent it to him at that address. Niteline always comes back to me as undeliverable. I’ll see if I can find one that works.

#418 Frodo on 10.01.08 at 2:11 pm

Now that was weird – I typed a response to MURPHY – Welcome to the team debating yourself – and got booted out until just now —

Mama is pretty and Mama’s Mama is pretty too.

Dances – did you get that information from Utah PUma with all the letters to the editors from New Mexico, Utah and Colorado – before I strart that project -

I totally agree with the reasoning for sending the prowl regarding the moderator – but just remember – Biden has debated when he was running for President – so he does have some experience there —- just saying – I know Palin will kick booty – or at least I hope so..

you gotta let me know when addresses don’t work, etc., otherwise everyone else who uses those bad addresses is going to waste time and become frustrated. Just dash off an email to actioncenter@pumapac.org , and if you have a correcetd one, include it. Thanks in advance.

new post up — but no one’s off the PROWL hook — keep PROWLIN

you are exactly right. I wrote my senator late last night/early this morning and told him NO pork, NO gold chutes, NO blank checks!

Every freaking polititcian I hear speak talks about having to come together; having to do what’s right for the people of this country. Why the hell, then, don’t they just DO IT?

Tax breaks for some, pork for others.

I am so sick and tired of this BS.

Can I sue the government for undue and unnecessary mental anguish and stress??? If I can, I’m suing for 700 billion.

#426 tennaseepuma on 10.01.08 at 2:16 pm

Senator McCain,

Please join with millions of us in not voting for that pork-bellied bailout bill.
I believe it will mean quick failure for Americas financial system.
We voted for the government to do what is in our best interest, not for big money institutions.Selling our country to the Federal Reserve and China just really stinks.

#427 rain on 10.01.08 at 2:17 pm

Called PBS and left message on voice mail for Mr. Getler. Thanks Murphy for providing insight into what the prowl is to accomplish. If they knew she was writing this book they should have never given her this opportunity. Obviously the McCain campaign was not made aware of this fact. Sara will be okay; she has fight which has been diminished a bit because of this outright attack on her personality and family. McCain is fighting the same battles that Hillary fought, Hillary had constructive plans and she still was beaten down, McCain’s back is up against the same wall which is backed by the MSM, etc.

Not against Bill or Hillary but I wish they would go on vacation until this is over.

#428 girlsrule on 10.01.08 at 2:18 pm

#409 just.words…THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!!!! I think it is time to give Senator McCain a kick in the butt so he can start doing the same to Obama….he is being MUCH too nice for my liking.

Maybe we need to create our own militia and take over this country to bring it back to standards of our founding fathers..

#431 Hispanic4Hillary on 10.01.08 at 2:27 pm

Anything with the word PUMA is being rejected from e-mail servers in most media and government.

#432 c4hill on 10.01.08 at 2:32 pm

re:IFIL-tomorrow’s debate.
The McCain camp could have rejected her as moderator(each party can take a pass-just like jury duty)-but they didn’t-because they were too stupid to google her-then they would have found out about her book–just like they didn’t research Palin–what a joke.

#433 john on 10.01.08 at 2:53 pm

Asian…Cool, Thank you for all the work you do.

#434 KarenWI on 10.01.08 at 3:16 pm

Got something very interesting in the mail today. I received a folder from “McCain Campaign” and it said “do not fold- photo enclosed”. That got my curiosity up. I found a really great 8 1/2 x 11 color photo of McCain-Palin smiling and waving. Under the photo, in the “white area” it has printed “TO (and my name) Thank you for your support and committment to our Party and candidates, (McCain-Palin signatures).” It also had a sheet in there that I could send back to check if I received the photo ok, or if it was damaged and I wanted it replaced… also a spot to check to donate money in there too, LOL. Even if it ISN’T really to ME with “live” signatures on them, I still think it’s pretty nifty…

#435 KarenWI on 10.01.08 at 3:18 pm

Hannity is talking about Gwen Ifill on his radio show and saying she should be replaced… he said HE was taken by surprise about her book too and only found out about it last night on Drudge.

#436 kids1627 on 10.01.08 at 3:20 pm

Wow the finger pointing is going to start . Pass this bail out seems to be the talking points today they call them leaders well I am not following I always have to bail my business out they should do the same we are leaving our children and grandchildren a huge debt oh will get a tax credit but what taxes will they make up to pay for it .

SHORT PROWL PROPS:

Got through to Michael Getler’s voice-mail and let ‘er rip!

Explained that I was a concerned Independent voter from Connecticut who was genuinely disappointed that all pretext of media fairness has been dropped when a debate “Moderator” is selected who stands to profit financially from a book which she has written that displays a clear bias for the Obama ticket. A complete violation of journalistic ethics — bordering on, if not actually, a criminal conflict of interest.

If the media is rejecting Puma, then we need to still send our messages without identifying ourselves. We are still a force to be reckoned with and come November, they will know it.

#441 Just Plain on 10.01.08 at 9:22 pm

Murphy,

Just a small correction to your post.

When a bank accepts deposits, that is a liability on their books. The loans they make with those dollars are the asset. The total assets of the bank are what determines what the minimum capital the bank must maintain.

So, the deposits don’t re-capitalize the bank, in fact it makes it pretty imperative that they attract more capital to be able to make the loans with the deposit dollars.

Just so you know, I spent 35+ years as a banker.
Go PUMAS.
