How big was the outpouring of opposition that helped kill the bailout bill in the House of Representatives on Monday? Big enough to leave the House’s Web site with unprecedented technical problems.
The “Write Your Representative” feature on House.gov came under even more stress than the credit markets did, seizing up completely for most users over the past 24 hours. “The House of Representatives is currently experiencing an extraordinarily high amount of e-mail traffic,” a notice said.

I’ve been sending emails to the media, the more they get from us, the more we seem to get a response. Voter fraud is going to be an issue regardless of what we do, because of the concern over past elections, but it doesn’t hurt to exploit that.

Lots of interesting stuff out there today. Just listened to Roumini and Rogers interviews over at RealClearMarkets.com . Both emphasize that mostly preferred share purchase with limited asset-buying is by far the better answer, and Rogers adds that trying to prop up the big losers will result in a 10+ year period of misery, like the failed 70s 80s effort and the Japanese deflation “Lost Decade”, while a harsher “let ‘em fall” approach will cause a year of great pain followed by major rejuvination and growth.

New ABC News/Washington Post national poll conducted after the debate (Sept 27-29) shows that John McCain has picked up 5 points on Barack Obama during the last week, moving from a nine-point deficit to trailing by four:
Obama 50 (-2 vs. last poll Sept 19-22)
McCain 46 (+3)
Obama leads by 4.8% in the RCP National Average.
According to the poll, McCain has regained the lead among key swing groups: Independents favor McCain by 3 (48-45), white women by 11 (54-43), and white Catholics by one (47-46). McCain is still holding on to 20% of Democrats who voted for Hillary Clinton in the primaries, while 70% are supporting Obama.

KURTZ: Barack Obama had very close ties to ACORN and in particular to the head of Chicago ACORN. Her name was Madeleine Talbot. Madeleine Talbot was an absolute pioneer of these intimidation tactics against banks, and Barack Obama was selected by Madeleine Talbot when he was just sort of a wet behind the ears organizer, she recognized his abilities, and she asked him to train her personal staff. When he came back to Chicago from law school and Madeleine Talbot was really beginning her campaign against these banks, Barack Obama trained the leadership of organizers in ACORN in Chicago.
DOOCY: So Stanley, you’re talking about how ACORN in the past has pressured banks to illegally make loans to people who cannot afford houses, so in effect you’re saying ACORN is one of the foundation or the cornerstones of the crisis that is we’re in right now?
KURTZ: That’s absolutely right. These loans weren’t illegal. In fact, there was a law that allowed ACORN to put on this pressure, the community reinvestment act enabled ACORN to levy complaints against banks when they wanted to merge or expand if they hadn’t made sufficient loans in minority communities, and so using this law, ACORN was able to pressure banks into making high risk loans.

Just thought I’d send some thoughts from small-business America.
My husband’s business is a canary in the coalmine. When tax policies are favorable to business, he hires more guys, buys more goods, etc. When he is taxed more heavily, he fires people, doesn’t buy anything new, etc. Well, duh. So, at the mere thought of a President Obama, he has paid off his debt, canceled new spending, and jotted a list of whom to “let go.”
The first of the guys will get the news tomorrow. And these are not minimum-wage earners. These are “rich” guys, making between $200,000 and $250,000 a year.
My husband will make sure that we’re okay, money-wise, but he won’t give himself a paycheck that will just be sent to Washington. He’ll make sure that he’s not in “rich guy” tax territory. So, he will not spend his money, not show a profit, and scale his workforce down to the bare minimum.
Multiply this scenario across the country and you’ll see the Obama effect: unemployment, recession, etc. No business owner will vote for this man, but many a “middle-class worker” will vote himself out of a job!

I don’t think you have to worry about the Bradley Effect – IT WILL HAPPEN. I laugh everytime I see polls stating that 95% of AA’s support the messiah. I’m Black and have lots of friends and family, who have lots of friends, who have lots of friends, etc. that aren’t voting for the pompus one! So I don’t understand this 95% business. Even among the Black community, there’s suspicion for Black politicians, who seem to be so filled with greed and power that once they get voted in, very soon after there’s always some corruption scandal to bring them down. (i.e. – mayors from Newark, DC, Detroit, etc.) Just not used to having power. It’s sad to say but it’s true. Some of us just aren’t ready for prime time, this is soooooo true for the messiah. John McCain Warned Of Mortgage Collapse In 2005

Barack Obama has been playing off the fears that are running rampant in the market because of the collapse of several of Wall Streets major investment companies like Lehman Brothers. Attacking John McCain and trying to create the idea that McCain does not know what he is talking about and that he is ignorant when it comes to the economy.
For Mr. Obama’s information John McCain saw this collapse coming as far back as 2005 and not only warned of the coming collapse but co-sponsored legislation to try and prevent it and go after the corruption that was causing much of the problem. Following is McCain’s speech on the Senate floor during debate of Federal Housing Regulatory Act Of 2005 urging the Senate to pass the Act which fell to defeat after being blocked by Senate Democrats.
Mr. President, (referring to the Presiding Officer of the Senate) this week Fannie Mae’s regulator reported that the company’s quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were “illusions deliberately and systematically created” by the company’s senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.
The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae’s former chief executive officer, OFHEO’s report shows that over half of Mr. Raines’ compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets.
The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac. The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator’s examination of the company’s accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005.
These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform. For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs—and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO’s report this week does nothing to ease these concerns.
In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO’s report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay. I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.
I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.”
Senate Democrats blocked the passage of the Bill and while it passed in the House it failed in the Senate because of the Democrats.
Additionally Obama has been claiming that the fault for this collapse lies in the policies of the Bush Administration and the Republicans using this as a way of finger pointing to John McCain when in fact the entire debacle was started under Bill Clinton. The Clinton administration dictated where mortgage lenders could lend and originally helped create the market for the high-risk sub prime loans now infecting the balance sheets of many of Wall Street’s most revered institutions. If these institutions did not comply they were threatened with massive fines and penalties.
Clinton put the Community Redevelopment Act, a Carter era law designed to encourage minority home ownership, on steroids. And in so doing, he helped create the market for the risky sub prime loans that he and Democrats now decry as not only greedy but “predatory.”
Two of Barack Obama’s top staffers, James Johnson who headed the VP selection Committee and Penny Pritzer, Obama’s campaign Finance Chair were both not only involved in this debacle but are attributed in creating the situations that began the sub prime lending schemes that caused the mortgage collapse.
Pritzer along with Earnst and Young working through Merrill Lynch created the sub prime financial engineering that created this meltdown. While Johnson was CEO at Fannie Mae when the Clinton Administration ordered the beginnings of the high risk market through the Community Redevelopment Act.
The very reform act that could have stemmed this collapse in 2005 co-sponsored by John McCain was voted against by Barack Obama who also was the third highest recipient of campaign donations from the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac PACS behind only Christopher Dodd and John Kerry.
The hypocrisy of Obama in claiming that the GOP , President Bush and by inference John McCain caused this problem and did nothing to prevent it when in fact just the opposite is true as it began under the Clinton Administration with its birth created by Democrats who are now involved with the Obama campaign, shows that it is Obama who is ignorant about the economy while McCain knows what he is talking about.
McCain’s statement that the fundamentals of the economy are still strong has been backed up by the 3.3 % growth in the economy last quarter as well as all other key economic indicators still holding strong. Democrat claims that we are in a recession heading to a depression are scare tactics as even the definition of a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative growth. This economy has not even experience on quarter of negative growth. The mortgage debacle was caused by greed and sub prime loans that created a bubble that was bound to burst. A bubble that was begun by Democrats and their supporters.
A problem that McCain foresaw and tried to stem and Obama voted with Democrats to keep going. Then Obama hired the major instigators of the schemes that created the sub prime lending chaos as top staffers of his Presidential campaign. So who is actually in touch about the economy ? Well it certainly is NOT Barack Obama. Rather the proven foresight of John McCain as well as his understanding of how an economy actually works instead of trying to scare voters as Obama does proves that McCain is the candidate who will stem the tied of greed and bring necessary reforms while allowing the market based economy to continue to grow.

And…for those who are somewhat visually challenged, it might be easy to miss the Barky box and check Nader above or Barr below…remember the butterfly ballots in FLA?? So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.
My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a We Deserve It Dividend.
Of course, it would NOT be tax free.
So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%.
Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500 in taxes.
That sends $25,500,000, 000 right back to Uncle Sam.
But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500 in their pocket.
A husband and wife team has $595,000.
What would you do with $297,500 to $595,000 in your family?
Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved.
Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads
Put away money for college – it’ll be there
Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
Buy a new car – create jobs
Invest in the market – capital drives growth
Pay for your parent’s medical insurance – health care improves

here in nor cal two years it was estimated that homes were 50-75% overvauled ..in the last few years they have dropped about third 33%..that leaves about 20-30% maybe even 40% to fall until they reach their true value according to real estate research groups..

My few computer crashes I have been able to recover from by restoring to a set point at a date before the crash–never lost any files.
McAfee/Norton have resident real-time anti-virus programs but you have to pay for them. Bitdefender has a free anti-virus program, but you have to run it separately, or schedule it to run. Spybot (Search & Destroy) and AdAware (Lavasoft) have worthwhile free spyware programs.
I just bought an external USB drive for storing photos, you can use it for backup too. The price of a decent sized drive is now under a hundred dollars. Having them on just one computer disk makes me nervous.
I thought about uploading them to “the cloud” (photobucket, etc) but who knows how secure that is, plus some of them have uncertain requirements about what constitutes too much skin–they can delete your whole account without warning for violating TOS, and you have to pay if you go over their set memory limit.
Also when I was making my rounds today I saw that a HUGE Obuma campaign sign was missing from a fence that has been there since last spring. Don’t know if it was a casualty of the hurricane or if it was taken down on purpose. At any rate it’s gone. That corner looks much better now!

The stimulus checks that went out starting in May, went to 130,000,000 tax filers. If only tax filers were to divide up $700 billion, it would be $5,384.

Oh, and if you’re running Windows you can do a “disk cleanup” which will very quickly delete your Internet temporary files and thumbnails. Sometimes this alone will make your computer start running. I used it all the time with my Windows98 system which was always low on memory and couldn’t’ stand having even 1 meg or so in temporary files.

I followed the PUMAS who wrote about ACORN over recent days & I was very active in writing to legislators to say that ACORN should NOT be in the bail-out.
But I really wasn’t comprehending at the time of the CLOSE relationship that ACORN has with Obama. However tonight after watching Glenn Beck (FOX) I get it now – and so I started searching the Internet and was SHOCKED at what I read.
I think in addition to all those in PUMA encouraging that we write / petition for an investigation of ACORN – we need to be seriously challenging the media as to WHY they are not talking more about Obama’s history with ACORN.
I truly believe that this ACORN affiliation could be the “nail in the coffin” to take Obama down. I’m not sure why the RNC doesn’t have their pundits out there on tv news shows talking more about this. I am aware that ACORN’s strategy is to call anyone against them racist so perhaps that’s what is keeping the RNC from highlighting more how ACORN is tied to Obama.
Right now – this week – ACORN is fresh on American’s minds today because of the bail-out. So if the media (other than FOX) began to REALLY discuss Obama’s history with ACORN – then this could truly change people’s minds and help them to see that Obama has poor judgement (again!) in who he chooses to associate.
Thanks to all those who kept hammering regarding ACORN – it just took me awhile to really grasp the depth of the relationship OBAMA has with ACORN and to understand how ACORN operates. It’s clearly a bad organization and I’m shocked to see that articles were written aboout this Obama connection as long ago as Jan 2008. I like many others just didn’t hear it or it wasn’t a big story before.
I think people gave Obama a “pass” on his past relationships with the minister and the “crooks” in Chicago – but if Americans continue to see him attached to radical groups or individuals from the past – then people will begin to question whether that’s the type of leader they really want.
There’s a pattern here regarding who Obama has chosen to associate with in the past and there’s no guarantee that he’s suddenly changed his interests. Obama’s radical left ties need to be really talked MORE and MORE. He’s not the person that people “think” he is.
I agree with all those who have written before – we need to demand that the media print & discuss this more. The media is covering up and trying to not discuss.
I’m African American and I appalled at the way ACORN works under the “cover” of so-called helping minorities & the poor. And Obama’s role in all this is just as appalling.
Thanks to all who have been writing about this: Mick; NikkisMom; BigCatLover; Henerietta; scarlet; Lorey; utahpuma; kat in your hat; etc. (I apologize to whoever I missed listing here). You were right to keep bringing this to our attention. This goes WAY BEYOND the bailout.

This whole thing ticks me off, not people ending up on the street, but people that lived on credit and we are expected to pay their bills…………………….

Assault on reason, Obama: Refund taxes funding Social Security

The first phalanx of 77 million-plus baby boomers began retiring this year. Demographers have warned for decades that paying for the Social Security and Medicare benefits of these boomers will be among the most difficult challenges America will face in the 21st century. That’s because we’re slowly moving from a nation in which there are four working taxpayers for every retiree to a nation with a 2-1 ratio.
To their credit, presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain have said Washington has been remiss in not tackling this long-pending problem and have vowed to do something about it once in the White House.
Nevertheless, buried in Sen. Obama’s complex tax plan is a proposal to permanently wipe out billions in annual Social Security funding. The Illinois Democrat wants to give a tax credit of $500 to 90 percent-plus of individual taxpayers to partly refund the 6.2 percent payroll tax on the first $102,000 of income that these workers contribute to Social Security (with their employers contributing a like amount).
How does this make sense? Even if Obama succeeds in requiring individuals making over $200,000 to pay more payroll taxes, finding adequate funding for Social Security is going to be a headache for generations to come. Why assault one of the foundations of entitlement funding?
The answer: Because Obama’s campaign promise of tax relief for 95 percent of Americans wouldn’t work without some sabotage of Social Security. The fact is that in 2006 46 million of the 136 million individual tax filers in the United States paid no federal income tax. So how do you give a “tax cut” to the one-third of workers who don’t pay income taxes? In Obama land, you refund their Social Security taxes – whatever the consequences.
There are many elements of the Obama tax plan that are a cause for concern. For example, his push to raise corporate and capital gains taxes at a time when America’s economic rivals are cutting such taxes is a recipe for stagnation (or worse). But for simple, straightforward wrongheadedness, cutting the payroll tax that already barely keeps Social Security afloat can’t be topped.
