Well, if you think like a Wall Street Banker, those friends are probably pretty valuable, and since the government is buying them from you, they’ll take them off your hands!
Polls mean nothing anymore. The polling companies are not able to reach a good cross section because of so many cell phones. Another thing is caller ID. Most of us do not randomly answer our phones these days. Many people won’t answer for poll takers if that is the number that is displayed.
The other skewed numbers, and they are in Obama’s favor in light of his recent registration activity, is that some people don’t have a home or an address or a phone number. These are the ones that will make or break a poll’s numbers.
There must be something about the early voting that is in Obama’s favor. I suppose if there is an ‘october surprize’ that can be avoided with early votes?

At their first presidential debate Friday, September 26, in Oxford, Mississippi, Sen. Barack Obama said Sen. John McCain is proposing “$300 billion in tax cuts to some of the wealthiest corporations and individuals in the country.”

The Facts:
The Obama campaign is basing this assertion on its own calculations using figures from the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center. The center has put forward the most detailed analyses of the candidates’ tax plans. The center’s director, Len Burman, told CNN his agency has not determined a dollar figure for how much of McCain’s tax cuts can be described as going to “the wealthiest corporations and individuals.”
Jason Furman, the Obama campaign’s economic adviser, explained to CNN how the campaign came up with the $300 billion figure. The center found that, based on the descriptions that Sen. McCain offers about his tax plan during stump speeches, he would offer about $3.4 trillion in tax cuts over 10 years,
in addition to the so-called Bush tax cuts. The Obama campaign subtracted from that the amount that the campaign believes the middle class and people at lower incomes may save through the tax exemption McCain is offering for dependents.
The total the Obama campaign came up with: just under $3 trillion in new tax cuts over 10 years for the wealthy — which would average just under $300 billion per year.
CNN shared the Obama campaign’s calculations with Burman of the Tax Policy Center. He said there are problems with the calculations. He said more of McCain’s total package of tax cuts would apply to the middle class or people at lower incomes than the Obama campaign is counting. Also, he said, the Obama campaign is choosing to go by the center’s analysis of McCain’s tax plan as he describes it on the stump, rather than the one McCain campaign officials have provided to the center.
In their analyses of both candidates’ tax plans, the center has found differences between what the candidates say on the stump and what their officials say. Burman said there is less difference for Obama than there is for McCain.
The center’s analysis has found that Obama offers larger tax cuts for the middle class and for people at lower incomes while raising taxes for wealthier people, and that McCain offers tax cuts across the board but higher tax cuts for higher income levels.
The McCain campaign did not return a call Sunday inviting the campaign to weigh in on the $300 billion figure.
Verdict:
Misleading. Obama’s assertion is based on calculations using figures from the Tax Policy Center. Before you do the happy dance it should be tested by PUMAs that are bilingual. Many of these translators suck. I bought an MP3 player from China and couldn’t read the instruction booklet because it was translated by one of these programs.
All the put words were English, but the order they were in no the sense made.

The American people are bearing the risk and therefore deserve to reap the rewards of a shared equity model. And mortgage securities bought by taxpayers must be valued accurately at prices disclosed in real time, with checks and reporting requirements to prevent abuse.
Third, taxpayers are being asked to bear an unparalleled degree of financial risk. We cannot allow taxpayers to take on this burden so that Wall Street and the Bush administration can hit the “reset button.” This historic intervention demands a historic shift in priorities: an end to the broken culture on Wall Street, and the broken economic policies in Washington.
Hello, I found this site two weeks ago and it seemed like a good resource. I’m working hard to sway friends of mine, former Hillary fans, from voting Obama and I gave the address of this site as a reference. It turned out to be a bit of a tactical error, because various posts were less than respectable.
So, I need help finding anti-Obama sites that focus on issues.
- Not that he is muslim, black, or other similar stuff
- Not that he wants to destroy America
- Nothing that calls him by the middle name, or childish names like Nobama or Bambi.

It was meant as a sign of respect, but now conservatives are saying Sen. Barack Obama’s invocation of his “hero bracelet” bearing the name of a fallen soldier is being done against the family’s wishes, based on comments made months ago by the soldier’s father.
Based on comments the mother of the family gave to the Associated Press today, however, the notion that Obama is wearing the hero bracelet against the wishes of the family — or more specifically, the mother, who have him the bracelet — is more complicated that it first seemed. She did ask Obama to stop mentioning her son on the stump, but she approved of the way Obama invoked her son in the debate.
Some background:
During Friday night’s presidential debate, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., mentioned the moment when the mother of a fallen soldier gave him a hero bracelet bearing her son’s name, Matthew Stanley.
“I had a town hall meeting in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, and a woman stood up and she said, ‘Senator McCain, I want you to do me the honor of wearing a bracelet with my son’s name on it.’” McCain recalled. “He was 22 years old and he was killed in combat outside of Baghdad, Matthew Stanley, before Christmas last year. This was last August, a year ago. And I said, ‘I will — I will wear his bracelet with honor.’…And then she said, ‘But, Senator McCain, I want you to do everything — promise me one thing, that you’ll do everything in your power to make sure that my son’s death was not in vain.’ That means that that mission succeeds, just like those young people who re-enlisted in Baghdad, just like the mother I met at the airport the other day whose son was killed. And they all say to me that we don’t want defeat.”
Stammering a bit as he appeared to be seeking the name on the bracelet on his wrist, Sen. Obama responded saying, “I’ve got a bracelet, too, from Sergeant, uh, from the mother of Sergeant Ryan David Jopek, given to me in Green Bay. She asked me, ‘Can you please make sure another mother is not going through what I’m going through?’ No U.S. soldier ever dies in vain because they’re carrying out the missions of their commander in chief. And we honor all the service that they’ve provided. Our troops have performed brilliantly. The question is for the next president: ‘Are we making good judgments about how to keep America safe? Precisely because sending our military into battle is such an enormous step.”

In February, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported on the moment when Tracy Jopek gave Obama the bracelet, and Obama’s mentioning of Jopek after he won the Wisconsin primary.
“We’re here because of the mother I met in Green Bay, Wisconsin, who gave me this bracelet that I’m wearing,” Obama said then. “Inscribed on it is the name of her son Ryan. Next to his name it says…’All gave some but he gave all.’ We are here because it is time to ask ourselves as a nation if we are serving Ryan and his compatriots and all our young brave men and women as well as they are serving us. They need us to end this war and bring them home and give them the care and the benefits that they deserve.”
Ryan Jopek was 20, a member of the Wisconsin National Guard like his father. He deployed to Iraq in 2005, was killed there in 2006.
In February 2008, Ryan’s mother Tracy and his sister Jessica traveled to Green Bay and waited in the cold for 45 minutes to give Obama her son’s bracelet. A campaign staffer arranged it so they could meet him.
“I didn’t get to say what I wanted to say. I just cried,” Tracy Jopek told the newspaper. “It wasn’t for anything but for him to know this is real, something he needed to know. . . I do believe (the war) needs to end, but I believe it needs to be done very carefully and very thoughtfully.”
She said she was honored by Obama mentioning her son in his speech.
“I couldn’t believe it. It was such an honor, such an honor,” she said. “To know that he does know his name. It means a lot.”

But a month later, Ryan’s father Brian — who is no longer married to Tracy — told Wisconsin Public Radio that his ex-wife had misgivings about Obama wearing the bracelet and mentioning their son on the campaign trail. It seems as though just as Tracy Jopek supports Obama and wants to end the war, Brian Jopek has a different take on what should happen in Iraq and may be more inclined to support McCain.

FOX just showed the results of the latest Gallup Poll, showing Obama in the lead. BUT…..there was no margin of error posted with the poll results!
So, I’d say the poll is too far off to be accurate. Anything over +/- 5 is worthless, insignificant, unreliable. Gallup is probably skewing the results, using shoddy polling techniques or getting unreliable results; hence no margin of error attached to poll results.

I saw Bill Clinton speak tonight at the 92nd St Y in Manhattan. He talked about his philanthropic projects at the Clinton Global Initiative.
As usual, he was brilliant, personable, so inspiring and such a hero/star.
The part that made me near vomit, was when he praised Obama. Thought I was going to make a spectacle of myself protesting. I’d say only about half the audience clapped in response to his remarks praising Obama. There were many in the audience who were noticeably silent and unresponsive. The claps got fainter and fainter….Even Clinton looked a bit ashamed of himself for praising Obama. In the end, he made some complementary and positive remarks about McCain. Those words sounded more real. More true. Like he actually BELIEVED what he was saying….
It was very difficult and very uncomfortable and very sad to hear him praise Obama. None of it rang true. It sounded hollow and meaningless.

So the race card has been played this election; nothing new about that. Democrats do it every election cycle. But I thought Obama was supposed to transcend race.
Now again, if you aren’t liberal, you must be some kind of racist, right?
After all, there’s no other reason why anyone would not vote for Obama, correct?
So let me get this straight. With apologies to Jeff Foxworthy:
If you don’t want higher taxes, you might be a racist.
If you think we should drill for more domestic oil, you could be a racist.
If you believe we should secure the borders, you might be a racist.
If you believe in the right to keep and bear arms, you might be a racist.
If you believe in the sanctity of life, you might be a racist.

I, for one, am tired of this old routine.

I usually don’t believe in conspiracy theory but I think there are people who are gaming the system and they are about to install and other puppet into office. They did it with the republicans and now they are doing it to the democrats. I would not be surprised that the entire bailout is a scam to offset their losses. They keep telling everybody that this will somehow fix things but I don’t buy it. Only thing it will do is slow the collapse of the market. The problem is so big that we will have to go through some hard times before this clears it self out. The housing market is over valued by trillions of dollars. In my area house prices tippled in the last 7 years. Under normal circumstances they would have gone up by no more then 15 to 20% in that time. So until they fall back to the normal growth curve there will be no relief. So if the housing market is worth 14 Trillion then it will have to drop about 4 Trillion before things go back to normal. I just don’t see how 700 billion is going to fix that. There must be 10s of millions of people who live in houses that they own more on then they are worth. It will take 10 to 15 years for those houses to appreciate enough for them to be able to move. Even at low interest payments it will suck up all their spending power and as for the loans them self, who will want to hold that toxic paper. Well now we now know the government and as we saw with the Iraq war they will come back for more and more money. This is a disaster that is unavoidable. I agree with the guys who said they should just let everybody who made these bets go bankrupt so that they can clean out the system. All this bill will do is keep the zombie banks feed on the once that are still working.

When the Republicans were in the majority prior to 2006, they did the same thing the Democrats are doing now.
The Democrats used to complain that the Republicans pushed thru bills without review by the Dems.
The Dems I believe vowed not to do that when they got the majority. Well, lo and behold, the Dems are in the majority and doing the same thing to the Repubs.
That’s why I have always mixed my vote in elections. I want each party looking over the other’s shoulders.

Sue66: By the way, our form of government is a democratic Republic, not a Parlimentary system as in Britain. We do not vote here for a Party to run the Presidency, with a Party leader on top. We vote for an individual. In the case of McCain, like him or not, the man has consistency shown an independance of thought relative to the Republican Party line and the Democratic Party line. One of the highpoints of this site is that the tacit ,acknowledgment, i.e., that we are not Britain or any other Parlimentary government, allows for remembrance of in what what we are: a Republic.
This republic is on the verge of extinction and if that occurs your bomb shelter will provide little protection against the forces of control of the few over the masses.

In concert with the Obama Truth Squad, the Dems are making rumbles about bring back the Fairness Doctrine.
The Fairness Doctrine meant TV and radio MUST present both sides of an issue. If you had a Dem for a guest, you had to have a Republican. Sounds great? It wasn’t. And was repealed.
If the Dems bring it back, they will be muffling talk radio. They would essentually shut down Hannity, Limbaugh, even Air America.
What if they went further to include the internet? Could that happen? Who knows? I don’t trust them.
Remember Obama mentioned in a speech he wants to establish a Civilian National Security Force. That would probably be what we now call the Obama Truth Squad.
After Obama mentioned the Security Force in a speech, his campaign squelched him talking about it anymore. I think they don’t want to tip their hand, that if Obama is elected they will set up this Security Force and bring back the Fairness Doctrine. THIS WILL PUT A MUZZLE ON FREE SPEECH. This will be a Police State.
We must not let the Fairness Doctrine be re-instated and we have to convince voters NOBAMA!!!

She makes the statement that she has doubts that Obama is a citizen of the usa even today. If that proves true he will probably have to give up his position as a Senator from Illinois.
