According to my paper this am – voter registration is going up, up, up – whether this means the votes will be even more overwhelming remains to be seen but do not forget this PUMAS – we laughed about cupcake’s 3:00 am text msg but all of those gullible people who signed up to get that msg gave their cell phone #s to cupcake’s people – think about that for a minute -
Also, we know there are more dems than repubs in this country – myself, I thought I could return to being a Dem but after the past week and all of the crooked, lying, bs coming from the Dems – no, no, no – I am and will continue to be an Independent – there is nothing left of the Dem party to save – it needs to be reinvented

I have been traveling all summer and have not run into anyone who is voting for this guy and seems there are many people worried about him taking over our goverment and changing it for the worse. I have also been with people who have lots of money in banks and they are taking it out and moving it some cash ,silver and gold seems to be what they are doing I’m tierd of second guessing the Clinton’s I wish some one would just say what they want it would be nice if Hillary would come out and say he beat me in the primary by cheating but I’ll be back in four years. From what I read, the Dodd-Paulson bill contained a provision which provided for 20% of any profits realized on the sale of any asset purchased via the bailout to be funneled to the Housing Trust Fund and the Capital Magnet Fund. These two Funds would then hand out grants to service organizations, such as ACORN Housing, an offshoot of ACORN.
The Dodd-Paulson bill was heralded as a completed bipartisan deal on Thursday afternoon. This bill lacked House GOP approval, but according to Pelsoi and Reid it was a done deal. I believe that this is why the Dems were so pissed that McCain showed up, he helped rattle their cage.

He cleverly tells people what they want to hear and appears to be a savior, when in fact he demonizes and tries to destroy his opposition.
Obama and the media moch Mc Cain for making references to history and for his experiences, saying he should focus on the future. People, one can not predict the future without looking back to history. If we fail to recognize the similarities to past failures, we are doomed to repeat past failures.

They are apparently not polling right now people who have already made up their minds, or are actually involved in any way with a political campaign. In this election, I’d say that is a huge percentage of the population. So the fields of people surveyed is getting for small and very specific. I’m not sure how accurate any of these polls are anymore. But I am concerned over the swing in polls right now. Let’s hope the Republicans have more in their arsenal than what we have seen.

Have you ever noticed that when any political group who wants to demonize someone, and they have little in the way of policy to do it with, they always make the personal attack?
Lately I have been told by some ‘people’ that Palin is a religious fanatic who believes in witches and someone who ‘plans’ to turn our nation into a theocracy!
When I asked these ‘people’ in an e-mail to give me ‘chapter, verse, and page number’ of these intentions, they couldn’t do it.
Now, on this subject:
1. The first ammendment guarantees freedom of religion
2. All religions believe in a spirit world
3. Many people wear or carry amulets like the Saint Christopher medal, the cross, the Bendel Bracelet (a red string in Kabalah), the Hamsah, and some pray to the saints, some pray and meditate in the Budhist fashion, some sway when they pray, some kneel. If Governor Palin says a prayer to ward off evil, she is in a multitude of good company.
4. Just because a person openly practices their religion, does not make them a subversive fanatic.
The media is skewing the polls, we know that aready…but from now on they will do anything to get their guy in and will downright lie,lie,lie to the public and skew the polls in BOs favor ,giving him major numbers to fool the uninformed voters and kids voting. What is going on is nothing new. I have spoken before about a certain groups plans to globalize the world. The New World Order, as some say. Bill Clinton was a huge part of it.
In order to globalize, there needs to be a centralization of power. That occured with the establishment of the United Nations. In 1946, Harry Truman signed the United Nations Charter, which brought the United States under the jurisdiction of the UN. It basically nullified the US Constitution and gave the presidents of every country the ability to establish new laws and rules called Executive Orders.
Every incoming US President invokes the War Powers Act, under the UN Charter, in order to retain the ability to use Executive Orders.
I think it was in 1990, that the Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force was created. This, basically brought all law enforcement agencies in the United States under one umbrella called FEMA. Fema is an agency of the United Nations and controls all law enforcement in the USA. It pretty much did away with the concept of ‘jurisdiction’.
The world’s population is out of control and has been for many years. Face it—people are NOT going to stop making babies. In order to survive as a species there needs to be some form of control.
In order to control the masses of the world, certain events need to be manipulated in every country, in order to bring about conditions that necessitate the intstitution of Martial Law.
I believe these are occuring at this moment. When ‘all hell breaks loose’, so to speak, the people will cry out, “Law and Order!!, Give us Law and Order, at any cost.” Because we are, basically, peace loving and law abiding citizens. Hence, the Police State.
Many of us believe racism is an abomination because there is only one race and that is the Human Race.
However—we cannot simply bury our heads in the sand and say it does not exist.
We need to be able to identify our enemies in order to defend ourselves. When someone shoots at me because of the color of my skin it tells me who I should shoot back at.
All along, I have wondered why Obama seemed to be openly pushing racist attitudes. Well, by now, whether the MSM reports it or not, we pretty much know his background and it doesn’t lend anything to the notion of establishing peaceful race relation is the United States.
Getting back to the NWO concept of globalization…..many years ago, around the beginning of the 20th century a group of men of great wealth, power, and persuasion collected together and developed the plan to bring this all about. It was decided that it needed to be done in increments. The world would simply disintegrate if they attempted it all at once.
So..Woodrow Wilson played his part…and every president since. When a president stepped outside the ‘plan’ they were eliminated.
We keep asking ourselves and each other, “How can this be? How can Obama be getting away with all this? Why is no one stopping him?
Well, I believe those questions pretty much answer themselves.
Personally, I believe it is time for us all to be as prepared as possible for the imminent end of life as we know it…here in America and in the world.
How each of us chooses to do that is a personal matter.
I simply do not choose to live in such a world.

The bottom line for me, no matter what is going on right now, is to keep BO out of the Whitehouse. That has been my objective from the moment Murphy started this PAC in early June.
I was one of the first to join and contribute. When it was implied I was a troll (indirectly), as well as others, yesterday, it led me to believe my efforts and money have been wasted here the past 3 months.
I told the truth about the state of the race in PA to hopefully motivate and accelerate PUMA’s efforts here. Yesterday, I stated Nobama was ahead by 2-3%.
Today, it’s almost 5%. I live here and am closely following things, I know what’s going on.

I wouldn’t pay much attention to the national polls since the popular vote doesn’t determine the winner. What we have to look at is the individual state polls, especially in the swing states – OH, PA, VA, CO, MI, WI, FL, NV, NH, etc. where the electoral votes determine the winner. An interesting thing I noticed with both Rasmussen and Gallup is: after the “Bradley Effect” issue came up the other day saying that the messiah would need to be at least 6 – 8 points up in the polls to win, all of a sudden we see a larger gap between the two candidates. There really wasn’t anything spectacular to have changed the numbers so quickly, so you have to wonder which pollsters are in the tank also. I have faith that we’ll see a turnaround soon, fueled by outside circumstances not aired yet.

During Friday night’s presidential debate, Barack Obama claimed that one of John McCain’s advisers, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, supported his view that the U.S. president should meet with Iran’s president and other rogue dictators without preconditions.
The point made McCain livid, as he repeatedly pointed out that Kissinger, his friend of 35 years, would never back such a dangerous position.
McCain turned out to be right.
Kissinger released a statement immediately after the debate. It read:
“Sen. McCain is right. I would not recommend the next president of the United States engage in talks with Iran at the presidential level.”
“Look, I’ll sit down with anybody, but there’s got to be preconditions,” McCain said during the debate. He painted Obama’s previously stated position as reckless and naive.

I read the article and it sounds like what goes on in small towns daily. You can bet Olberman will be on it by tomorrow. The fact of the matter is there are few venues left that aren’t in the tank for Nobama so I just try to ignore it. Everything Palin does is under scrutiny so I’m not surprised.
BillieJoe: The 20% for Acorn et al may be taken out as a line item NOW but if a profit is made by the government on the bailout, the 20% kicks in again. So people think the issue is resolved; it is not and this kind of move is typicalfor earmarks, for profit or non profit or not.
We should follow up with another set of eamails that says this does not resolve the issue. We want no money profit or otherwise given to this or any other nonprofit!

I don’t know if this is true. I went to my local news to check out the weather for the week and this was the number one story. I have not heard this before and there is no link or fact checks on the story. But of course I don’t trust anything I see in the news. Oh especially being in a swing state.

I think this is going to hurt Hllary politically in the future. If she would put country first instead of poltics, I could see both sides voting for her. I saw something somewhere where a prominent Republican (can’t remember who at the moment, sadly) had released a statement or published an op-ed, or something, condemning Obama’s new Truth Squads and his attempts to get the sheriff’s dept involved. His statement said something to the effect: “Grow Up, Obama. This is what happens in election campaigns. People say things about you you don’t like. Dear Governor Rendell,
I write to you as a former fan of yours and a very concerned citizen. I was so impressed with you in your support of Hillary Clinton and I appreciate what you have done for my city of Philadelphia and state of PA. However, I am an individual who as a lifelong Democrat, can no longer support the Democratic Party. The manipulation of the primary elections by the DNC and the Obama campaign was unconscionable and the current tactics that continue to be employed by these organizations are beyond the scope of Democratic and democratic principles. The corruption inside the DNC is clear from the manipulation by the RBC of the rules regarding MI and FL before and then during the convention, the intimidation of delegates at the convention, and the current implicit support for corrupt organizations such as ACORN, implicated in extensive voter fraud, who are to receive a percentage of federal profits from the bailout agreement. I could go on, but the list is far too long. I am actually writing today in response to the recent announcements of Truth Squads that are being formed in several states such as PA and Missouri wherein public law enforcement and elected officials are “To identify and target anyone the campaign determines is producing ‘misleading’ political advertisements”. This is appalling and, quite frankly, unbelievable in a country that calls itself a democracy. Just for the heck of it, I decided to do a little historical research to see if my suspicions as to these same historical practices were on the mark. They wwere more than on the mark.
Where I expected to find an analgous tie to the Third Reich, I ended up finding a pretty chilling similarity into the rise of Adolph Hitler.
I am not implying that Obama is the reincarnation of Hitler, but a comparison of details of their respective campaigns toward power is rather disturbing.

Instead, he continues to rail against the current establishment and spread a message of victimhood and entitlement to the masses.

ladyhawkke, re McKinney. She was grabbed from behind and acted reflexively. The security guard was supposed to have let her pass without stopping, but apparently did not recognize her. The whole incident was turned into a hullabaloo (¿sp?) by the Republicans and those claiming racial profiling (white guard stopped Black woman). McKinney issued a statement about the incident, expressing her regret. BTW, her own father was a police officer (who wasn’t allowed to arrest white people), so don’t jump on her for being a cop-hater–not true.
My personal feeling is that, probably, I would have responded similarly. You just don’t grab people from behind! How about an, “Excuse me, ma’am”? It is required that the Capitol Hill police KNOW ALL MEMBERS OF CONGRESS BY FACE. This guy screwed up and acted inappropriately by PHYSICALLY trying to restrain a person who had been in Congress for nearly 12 years. But, he had all those white, Republican, Congressman just waiting for anything to use to take down McKinney. Finally, for what it is worth, I also personally believe that cop would not have gone after a white person like he did McKinney. That comes from MY OWN LIFE EXPERIENCES.

At the time, Rezko had the FEDS breathing down his neck, looking into his assets, etc. Why would Rezko put his neck out at that time for Obama? Obama was a US Senator at the time. Rezko was trying everything he could to get US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald off the case (Fitzgerald of Scooter Libby fame) at that time.

I just had time to listen to blogtalk radio’s “Murphy and Friends.” What a great show you had on last night! I don’t know the name of the lawyer you interviewed but he was very good. I would agree with him and Boogieman (caller) that BO has no coattails. In addition, the Hispanic community in TX and in the U.S. has not forgotten how they were treated by BO and his campaigners (& caucus fraud). Boogieman pointed out that he spoke to a Democratic Party official who said they did block walks in San Antonio and the official himself said he noted a lot of resentment by Hispanics. That is not going away anytime soon. As Boogieman also pointed out, I haven’t seen any commercials or signs for downticket Democrats here. I guess endorsing BO didn’t really pay off for the TX Democratic Party. Who would have thought BO would throw them under the bus so quickly. Actually, most of us kind of knew it was coming.
Your discussion of economic populism and how universities are only accessible to the the middle class/ wealthy were also very interesting topics that other outlets are not addressing.

The problem is that you need to change your belief. For what you believe is what manifests itself in your world.

do not worry the only thing that will change is that your false belief will change to TRUTH.

You will demand that their criticism of you is really criticism of themselves. After all you are accepting that your criticism of them is really criticism of yourself. It is only fair that they do the same for you.
This idea will take hold and you will be free of any criticism. Immediately as you are being criticized your mind will automatically see the person as criticizing himself. You will never see any criticism as being about you. It really worked for me in my life.
What is happening is that the other person is projecting her own guilt out onto you. You will come to see that immediately. You will see the person telling you all about their own inner guilt instead of seeing it as your inner problem. For you shall know that god loves you just as you are. So how can you accept any criticism when god says you are perfect just as you are.
You see it will be impossible to believe any criticism of yourself and you shall walk free in God’s Love.
BTW I really know and believe that you have done a super marvelous job for PUMA. We all love you for being who you are. I embrace and Love you just as you are. I invite you to embrace yourself and love yourself just as you are. Why not. Even god loves you just as you are.

Tom Brokaw announced this morning on “Meet the Press” that the next debate is going to consist of questions from the audience and also submitted in emails, etc.
So, if you have any questions you’d like posed to the candidates, you might want to compose them and send them to Tom. He mentioned something about a spot on the NBC website with a link for people to send in their questions.
Tom is trying to appear non-biased, but truly not doing a good job of it. I’d like to see him get a significant amount of questions with our concerns voiced in them, as well as a direct, unmistakable reminder TO NOT FOLLOW IN HIS DECEASED COLLEAGUE TIM RUSSERT’S footsteps and select questions and display NBC’s shamefully unprofessional and irresponsible journalistic biases in conducting the debates.

Very Interesting perspective that was left out of the debate~
Toward the end of Friday’s presidential debate, the conversation turned to Iran and there was a long back-and-forth between the two candidates about what kind of conditions should be set for any discussions with the Iranian government.
But neither addressed what could be the most important foreign policy issue either might face as president: a unilateral strike by Israel against Iranian nuclear facilities.
Israeli officials are clearly seriously contemplating such a strike, as Iran is believed to be drawing near to having a nuclear capability that those officials believe poses an existential threat to Israel.
Such a strike would probably immensely complicate U.S. efforts in both Iraq and Afghanistan as the Iranians would probably retaliate against American targets in both countries after such an attack.

I have to say this morning I caught a glimpse of David Axelrod on one of the morning news talk shows. Can’t remember which channel it was (probably NBC)….I was flipping channels and finally rested on ABC (mainly to see interview with Bill Clinton)…
Anyway, I noticed David Axelrod is looking more and more like Hitler by the day.

I had read in the Chicago papers,earlier this month, that Rezko had been seen in the Federal Building since August talking to the Feds.
The bigger fish would be Obama. Rezko may be holding out on him until after the election. If Obama wins Rezko will be looking for a pardon, even though Obama said in June when cornered by reporters he wouldn’t pardon Rezko. But we all know Obama goes back on his words….just words. However, if Obama loses then Rezko will probably sing like a bird about Obama.
I hope the Feds put the squeeze on him to open up about Obama before the election.

I caught up on several days of reading from the comments on this site for the past few days. Hey – Too much doom & gloom for me (from some)! I refuse to give up this soon or to start to stress about what the polls are saying today. I refuse to permit the pundits and biased media cause me to lose hope or to push me to be too negative in my thinking & words.
I’m a middle-aged African American woman who is not voting for BO. I like many other PUMAs have turned away from the DNC presidential candidate for this election. I was a big-time Hillary supporter who is now looking at McCain. My own husband thinks I’m nuts to not be for BO. I am so disgusted with the DNC, Dean, Pelosi, Reid & Brazile from the primaries that for me it’s more about defeating them by seeing to it that their candidate is not elected!
Polls are not the true gauge for how people will vote in November. We all know that from participating in Hillary’s campaign. How many times did the polls say Hill was down?, but she kept on working and she would win a state primary – forcing the media & pundits to say “oops” one more time for being wrong.
McCain is a fighter just like Hillary is. Lower poll numbers will only push McCain & his campaign to rethink and come back even stronger. You know BO & Biden – it won’t take long for one of them to trip over their own words and the polls will start to go the other way.
We’ve only seen the first of several debates so there’s still time for McCain to reach the undecided voters. When poll numbers go up too fast for BO, the #s will only come down hard before the election. I think BO reached some undecided voters because in the debate he talked about the middle class – or at least used the phrase several times. But you know that people aren’t stupid. When they study BO’s words from now on, outside the one debate, and start looking for specifics they will soon realize BO’s just blowing hot air and has little to say.
We stuck with Hill like glue – all the way to the end and even when the polls & pundits said otherwise, we just stood firm and believed in her. We can do this again. We can choose to encourage McCain-Palin to keep at it and to not let the polls distract. They need to hear from us regularly so they will know that the polls are not telling the entire truth.
The way I see it – Arguing with BO supporters non-stop will only drain me and depress me. Instead I write my one response when I come across nonsense on blogs by BO supporters and then I move on. I refuse to spend all my time talking “at” people who are for BO. Instead I try to divide my time by also contacting those who already have identified that they will not be voting for BO.
Such as:
(NOTE: If a site is down this afternoon – try again tonight or tomorrow. They will find the problem created by hackers and get the sites back up).
- Write on the GOP blog at their website http://www.gop.com/Blog/
- Email John McCain’s campaign directly at info@johnmccain.com
- Visit one of the online McCain-Palin coalitions at http://www.gop.com/ (look for Coalitions on top navigation)
- Write the republican senators & congress in your state and ask them to speak up in the local state media in support of McCain – they can get media attention even when we can’t.
- Write on the blogs of your state’s republican party’s site. http://www.gop.com/Connect/States.aspx
(on your state’s page at the top they will provide the web address for the GOP site in your state – some states have blogs & others have a form for “contact us” where you can send comments)
- Call into one of the talk radio shows as listed by the GOP http://www.gop.com/ActionCenter/CallTalkRadio/
- Write to the Republican & McCain pundits you see on the tv news shows to let them know that we are listening and like what they said
We have to invest as much time in engaging with those who do NOT support BO, as we spend arguing with those who choose to support BO. We especially want to communicate with those for McCain who have the voice to speak to media and who actually receive air time. Just think how much negative mail they must receive from those over-the-top BO supporters after they talk on one of the tv news shows? We need to balance that email so those voices know that there are those of us cheering when we hear what they are saying.
(of course – whenever you write or call always identify yourself as Hillary supporter, PUMA member and a democrat who is not supporting the DNC in November in protest)
Those in the McCain campaigns at both the state & national level need our encouragement and support and participation. I think they too can feel down when they see the poll numbers or hear the pundits on tv, so we can help them by emailing or calling or faxing to provide another voice to say “don’t give up”, “have you thought about doing xxxx”, “I liked that ad because…” “I support McCain-Palin because…” or simply “I plan to vote in November for McCain-Palin”
Come on PUMAs – we have to keep those who are steering the McCain-Palin campaign motivated and let them know that they have supporters even when the poll numbers or the pundits say otherwise. They need to hear from us individually & regularly – not just once in awhile. Defeating BO is something we can all agree on – and encouraging those who are out in front of the cameras or getting media attention is one of the things we can do( – well, in addition to challenging the BO supporters of course!)

DITTO and AMEN! As a fellow middle aged AA female, your views are identical to mine. I steadfastly believe that when the rubber hits the road on November 4, the messiah will be resoundly defeated! I think back to 2004 when I worked my ass off for Kerry, the first time ever in my life to volunteer for a campaign and was so sure he would win. Disappointed the next day only to find yet another Demoratic defeat. In hindsight I’m glad he’s lost – his judgment stinks. I see the messiah as a “Black Kerry” and the good citizens of the US will again vote for who they feel most comfortable with. Unlike what the Dems want to believe, this country is FAR, FAR from the liberal left-winged messiah and company and I think McCain will prevail on the 4th.

I guess 2% more likely voters have an unfavorable opinion of her after the attacks. She still has a higher favorable rating than Joe Biden and her favorable rating remained the same (at 53%). Yet, Joe Biden’s unfavorable ratings went up 7%. I don’t think the Reps were even trying to smear Biden. Among the provisions of the draft bill:
1. The $700 billion would be disbursed in stages, with $250 billion made available immediately for the Treasury’s use.
2. Curbs will be placed on the compensation of executives at companies that sell mortgage assets to Treasury. Among them, the bill would limit golden parachutes to executives at companies that participate; they will not be able to deduct the salary they pay to executives above $500,000.
3. An oversight board will be created. The board will include the Federal Reserve chairman, the Securities and Exchange Commission chairman, the Federal Home Finance Agency director and the Housing and Urban Development secretary.
4. Allow for the Treasury to receive the option to take ownership stakes in participating companies under certain circumstances.
5. Treasury may establish an insurance program – with risk-based premiums paid by the industry – to guarantee companies’ troubled assets, including mortgage-backed securities, purchased before March 18, 2008.

I just got home from church and a nice lunch, changed clothes and sat down to see what everybody’s had to say this morning. It seems that a lot of PUMAs are in a very dark, pessimistic mood. Last week was a tough one, but look at the bright side. We all know McCain won the debate. We know he did the right thing by dropping everything and going to Washington to work on the bailout. We got the news that another Hillary supporter, an influential Hispanic, gave his support to McCain. And hooray for Gov. Blunt of Missouri. We have a lot of reasons to get our spirits back up. I think this coming week is going to expose a lot of new stuff on voter fraud and the ACORN shenangigans, and maybe even something out of Rezko. We’d like to see McCain ahead in the polls, but he’s hanging in there and the polls are often wrong anyway. So don’t be discouraged by them. Let’s think positive and keep working. You’ll feel better and get back to posting those hilarious comments that add so much cheer to everybody’s day. NOBAMA no way, no how!

This is not the PAC I joined in early June. Seems to me the hierachy of this PAC has gotten to big for their britches and has left us to float without paddles.
It has become long on words and graphics, while asking for money.

We all socialize at times, but there is no where to work on actions without weeding through tons of endless talk on the same points. It gets old and to keep the frustration level down, it would be great to have a place where PUMAs that just want to work on actions together can go. It would be best if those two branches could still be connected on the same site but PUMAs could pick which area they wanted to be in.

Why are so many of you ready to give up on Sarah on the basis of this one story. Just how reliable is this Neil Relyea? What are her sources. We know that Sarah “ruffled many feathers” as Governor. When writing letters, you might add the fact that someone embezzled nearly $1million from ACORN and has hid that from everyone for 8 years. Just came to light this year. The guy was allowed to keeping working there because his brother worked for ACORN and let him stay. This would have been taxpayer money as we contribute to ACORN. Who knows what else they get away with.

OK, I went to zogby.com today and see that the most recent poll out today is Obama by 1. What is more interesting is if you click on the updated Electoral vote map (updated 9/25) It has Obama ahead, however when you click on the purple states, you will see that John McCain is ahead in every swing state except New Mexico. And except for 1 state he is ahead by about 5 points in the rest. If those stats hold, McCain would win 299 to184.
Also I want to comment on that video that some Puma posted yesterday showing McCain’s victory.
That was the dumbest thing the Obama campaign has ever done. To send out pictures into the universe showing a McCain victory in such vivid terms is creating an outcome. It doesn’t matter what words are written at the end ,it is the pictures that create reality.

Democratic Platform’s Hidden Soros Slush Fund

The Democratic Party platform is like a bag of pork rinds. You never know what high-fat liberal government morsel you’re gonna get.
Buried in the 94-page document is a noble-sounding proposal to create a “Social Investment Fund Network.” The program would provide federal money to “social entrepreneurs and leading nonprofit organizations [that] are assisting schools, lifting families out of poverty, filling health care gaps, and inspiring others to lead change in their own communities.” The Democratic Party promises to “support these results-oriented innovators” by creating an office to “coordinate government and nonprofit efforts” and then showering “a series of grants” on the chosen groups “to replicate these programs nationwide.”
In practice, this Barack Obama brainchild would serve as a permanent, taxpayer-backed pipeline to Democratic partisan outfits masquerading as public-interest do-gooders. This George Soros Slush Fund would be political payback in spades. Obama owes much of his Chicago political success to financial support from radical, left-wing billionaire and leading “social entrepreneur” Soros. In June 2004, Soros threw a big fundraiser at his New York home for Obama’s Illinois Senate campaign. Soros and family personally chipped in $60,000. In April 2007, Obama was back in New York for a deep-pocketed Manhattan fundraising soiree, with Soros lurking in his shadow.
No doubt with Soros’ approbation (if not advice from the hands-on “progressive” activist or his advisers), Obama fleshed out his Social Investment Fund Network plan last December. In concert with his mandatory volunteerism pitch and $6 billion anti-poverty plan, Obama called for the creation of a “Social Entrepreneurship Agency” to dispense the funds in unspecified amounts. The agency would be a government-supported nonprofit corporation “similar to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting,” which runs public television. (And we’ve all seen how fair and balanced that lib-dominated, Bill Moyers-boosting private-public enterprise turned out.)
Obama cites the Harlem Children’s Zone, which provides after-school activities and mentors to children in New York, as an example of a program that should be funded. (HCZ’s former senior leader Shawn Dove is now an official at Soros’ Open Society Institute.) The problem with such initiatives, as Mitchell Moss pointed out in the Manhattan Institute’s City Journal several years ago, is that these private-public partnerships formed under the guise of economic renewal often become nothing more than fronts that coordinate “an enormous safety net for social services.” Private donations give the illusion of self-help and philanthropic independence, but in reality, the “clients” are never weaned from the teat of the welfare state. They simply learn how to milk it more efficiently.
Even more troubling is how the Democratic Party/Obama plan would siphon untold millions or billions of public tax dollars into the Soros empire without taxpayer recourse. Obama promises “accountability” measures to ensure the money is spent wisely. But who would assess effectiveness of the spending? Why, experts in the social entrepreneurship community, of course. Fox, meet henhouse.
Soros has donated some $5 billion of his fortune to left-wing nonprofit groups through the Open Society Institute — an institution committed to Soros’ militant ideology of toppling the “fascist” tyranny of the United States, which he says must undergo “de-Nazification” in favor of “justice.” The mob at Obama-endorsing MoveOn, purveyors of the “General Betray Us” smear against Commanding General, MNF-I, David Petraeus, is the most notorious Soros-backed political arm. But scores of other activist nonprofits have received Soros funding under the guise of doing nonpartisan “community” or “social justice” work — and it is exactly such leftist activist groups that would be first in line for the Democratic Party/Obama’s “social investment” seed money.
Point in case: ACORN. As I’ve reported before, Obama’s old friends at the Chicago-based nonprofit now take in 40 percent of their revenues from American taxpayers. They raked in tens of millions in federal antipoverty grants while some of their operatives presided over massive voter fraud and others were implicated in corporate shakedowns and mortgage scams across the country. Soros has donated at least $150,000 to the group, according to Investor’s Business Daily, and “heads a secretive rich-man’s club called ‘Democracy Alliance’ that has doled out $20 million to activist groups like ACORN.”
Once the spigot is turned on, there’s no turning back.
Where are fiscal conservatives on this far-left boondoggle? Well, if you’re wondering why the McCain campaign doesn’t raise hell over this proposed left-wing nonprofit/government pipeline, it’s because McCain himself is a Soros beneficiary. His “Reform Institute,” a tax-exempt, supposedly independent 501(c)(3) group focused on campaign finance reform, was funded by the Soros-funded Open Society Institute and Tides Foundation.

Since I went to a Hillary Rally a few months back, and I went to McCain’s rally a few weeks ago, I decided to go to Obama rally yesterday to see what his is like. While waiting for Hillary and McCain to show up we had excitement but this one was like the crowd was waiting for someone real and I mean real special to show up. I don’t have any idea what this guy’s got, now that we know more about him, that can bring that out in people. They sure where not there to see Biden. Right when they were suppose to show up it rained real hard. I left and never did see them. They ended up being two hours late. The security was not letting people in at one point and then the rains came and the entrance areas was the same as the exit and it got ugly for a few minutes. The area was not big enough for what they say was 26,000, there might of been that many around but the people who know the spot where telling me that they thought only about 10,000 could get in. The line to get in was still long when I got out. I never heard any news reports if they did or did not let everyone in. I was glad it rained on their parade. I knew this guy had a following but I did not think it was this strong. I can now see why the dems did not want any problems in Denver with a possible different outcome. These followers would of gone nuts. I don’t know how McCain can beat this guy either. Maybe the whitie tape maybe one of the only ways. Again this rally opened my eyes to a lot and I didn’t even see the candidate. The media is scared to death to report anything negative. They might have this whitie tape and are scared to release due to what might happen if they do. The Berg case is another one they won’t touch. Even FOX is backing off a bit. You know they have enough dirt on Obama and are not releasing it.

This is rich…..I went to the college fair today with my daughter and we stopped off at Whole foods for a Jamba juice on the way home. She jumped out of the car ahead of me and some grey 60 year old hippy guy stopped her in the parking lot to talk to her about BO. It took me awhile to catch up and boy did he shrink back when he saw me coming. He didn’t say a word to me and kind of watched me warily (obviously smarter than he looked). So there is something to the idea that a bunch of liberal old men are really getting in to talking with young woman and forming themselves an old man young woman BO coalition. Call me old fashioned but I see no legitimate reason for any man over age 18 to talk to young girls regarding anything. Picking them out of a crowd to talk BO pisses me off.

George Soros is a Hungarian immigrant who came to the U.S. in 1956, at age 26, and made his fortune as an international financier. His father, who was born into an Orthodox Jewish family, changed the family name from Schwartz to Soros in 1936 – a move that enabled the Soros family to conceal its Jewish identity and thus survive the Nazi Holocaust. In 1947 the family emigrated from Hungary to England, where an event occurred that greatly influenced the development of George’s personality and worldview. He broke his leg and was cared for by England’s National Health Service, free of charge, while the Jewish relief agencies of that era did not offer him the help he believed they owed him. In that convergence of events was born Soros’ favorable opinion of Democratic Socialism, and his negative view of many Jewish groups.
In 1956 Soros started life in America with very little money but a well-developed knowledge of investing, thanks to his education at the London School of Economics and his experience working for a London stockbroker. He transformed his meager seed money into a huge fortune by becoming one of the world’s leading hedge fund investors and currency traders. In 1969 he started his enormously successful Quantum Fund, which, over the ensuing three decades, yielded its long-term investors a four thousand-fold increase on their initial 1969 investments. During his career, Soros has orchestrated some extremely risky, ethically questionable deals. For instance, in a $10 billion 1992 deal whose success was contingent upon the devaluation of the British Pound, he earned himself a $1 billion profit and the title, “the man who broke the Bank of England.” Over the years, he has amassed a personal fortune of some $7 billion.
In 1979 Soros founded the Open Society Fund, and since then has created a large network of foundations that give away hundreds of millions of dollars each year, much of it to individuals and organizations that share and promote his leftist philosophy. He believes that in order to prevent right-wing fascism from overrunning the world, a strong leftist counterbalance is essential. Asserting that America needed “a regime change” to oust President Bush, Soros maintained that he would gladly have traded his entire fortune in exchange for a Bush defeat in the 2004 election. In a November 2003 interview with the Washington Post’s Laura Blumenfeld, he stated that defeating President Bush in 2004 “is the central focus of my life”. . . “a matter of life and death.” “America under Bush,” he said, “is a danger to the world, and I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is.” Claiming that “the Republican party has been captured by a bunch of extremists,” Soros accuses the Bush administration of following a “supremacist ideology” in whose rhetoric he claims to hear echoes from his childhood in occupied Hungary. “When I hear Bush say, ‘You’re either with us or against us,’ ” he explains, “it reminds me of the Germans. It conjures up memories of Nazi slogans on the walls, Der Feind Hort mit (The enemy is listening). My experiences under Nazi and Soviet rule have sensitized me.”
Soros pledged to raise $75 million to defeat President Bush in the 2004 Presidential election, and personally donated nearly a third of that amount to anti-Bush groups (see The Shadow Party). He gave $5 million to MoveOn.org, the group that produced political ads likening Bush to Adolf Hitler. He also contributed $10 million to a Democratic Party 2004 get-out-the-vote initiative called America Coming Together, whose directors include representatives from the AFL-CIO, the Sierra Club, the Service Employees International Union, and EMILY’s List. He further pledged $3 million to the Center for American Progress (CAP), a think-tank headed by former Clinton chief-of-staff John Podesta.
PBS broadcaster and Schumann Center for Media and Democracy President Bill Moyers is a trustee of the Open Society Institute’s Board of Directors. The network of Soros foundations – the most prominent of which is the Open Society Institute – supports a wide array of leftist groups and causes.
In August 2006 Soros wrote a Wall Street Journal piece titled “A Self-Defeating War.” The article’s premise is that “the war on terror is a false metaphor that has led to counterproductive and self-defeating policies.” “Five years after 9/11,” Soros elaborates, “a misleading figure of speech applied literally has unleashed a real war fought on several fronts — Iraq, Gaza, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Somalia — a war that has killed thousands of innocent civilians and enraged millions around the world. Yet al Qaeda has not been subdued.”
According to Soros, “[T]errorism is an abstraction. It lumps together all political movements that use terrorist tactics. Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Sunni insurrection and the Mahdi army in Iraq are very different forces, but President Bush’s global war on terror prevents us from differentiating between them and dealing with them accordingly. It inhibits much-needed negotiations with Iran and Syria because they are states that support terrorist groups.” “The war on terror,” adds Soros, “emphasizes military action while most territorial conflicts require political solutions. … [It] drives a wedge between ‘us’ and ‘them.’ We are innocent victims. They are perpetrators. But we fail to notice that we also become perpetrators in the process; the rest of the world, however, does notice. That is how such a wide gap has arisen between America and much of the world. Taken together, these … factors ensure that the war on terror cannot be won. An endless war waged against an unseen enemy is doing great damage to our power and prestige abroad and to our open society at home.”
In December of 2006, Soros met with Democratic presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama in his New York office. Soros had previously hosted a fund-raiser for Obama during the latter’s 2004 campaign for the Senate. On January 16, 2007, Obama announced the creation of a presidential exploratory committee, and within hours Soros sent the senator a contribution of $2,100, the maximum amount allowable under campaign finance laws. Later that week the New York Daily News reported that Soros would back Obama over Senator Hillary Clinton, whom he had also supported in the past. Soros’s announcement was seen as a repudiation of Clinton’s presidential aspirations, though Soros said he would support the New York senator were she to win the Democratic nomination.
In early January 2007, Soros was interviewed by Wolf Blitzer of CNN. Blitzer began the interview by asking Soros about the following quote that appears in Soros’s newly published book, The Age of Fallibility: “The Bush administration and the Nazi and communist regimes all engaged in the politics of fear. Indeed, the Bush administration has been able to improve on the techniques used by the Nazi and Communist propaganda machines by drawing on the innovations of the advertising and marketing industries.” When Blitzer asked him to defend that assertion, Soros replied:
“You actually picked out the most incendiary part of the book, and I am very careful to draw a clear distinction between the Nazi regime and our open society, because we are a democracy. But there are some similarities in the propaganda methods, which I pointed out. … I think there are some serious arguments about our open society being endangered by the policies followed by the Bush administration. The war on terror, which does not have an end, changes, it leads to an undue extension of executive powers. It has stifled debate. Criticizing the president is considered unpatriotic, and as a result, we have been following policies which endanger our traditional [unintelligible].”
“A lot of people will agree with you on that,” said Blitzer. “But where they will starkly disagree is to then bring in the whole Nazi and Communist comparison.” Soros replied: “Actually, it’s a valid point, and maybe I did go over the line, but I think that on the whole my assessment is a balanced one. And frankly, when President Bush said, ‘you are either with us or you are with the terrorists,’ that’s when I was reminded. But I should have probably kept it to myself.”
While criticizing the Iraq War for the benefit of reporters at the January 2007 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Soros unburdened himself of the view that Nazis were now running the United States government. “America needs to follow the policies it has introduced in Germany,” Soros explained. “We have to go through a certain de-Nazification process.” Lest there be doubts that Soros was actually likening his adoptive country to the Third Reich and the Bush administration to the Nazi nomenklatura, a Soros spokesman, Michael Vachon, moved quickly to dispel them. “There is nothing unpatriotic about demanding accountability from the president,” he said of Soros’s appeal for de-Nazification. “Those responsible for taking America into this needless war should do us all a favor and retire from public office.”
In the April 12, 2007 issue of the New York Review of Books, Soros penned an article titled “On Israel, America and AIPAC,” wherein he derided the Bush administration for “committing a major policy blunder in the Middle East” by “supporting the Israeli government in its refusal to recognize a Palestinian unity government that includes Hamas, which the U.S. State Department considers a terrorist organization.” In Soros’ calculus, “This precludes any progress toward a peace settlement at a time when progress on the Palestinian problem could help avert a conflagration in the greater Middle East.” “Israel,” said Soros, “with the strong backing of the United States, refused to recognize the democratically elected Hamas government and withheld payment of the millions in taxes collected by the Israelis on its behalf. This caused great economic hardship and undermined the ability of the government to function. But it did not reduce popular support for Hamas among Palestinians, and it reinforced the position of Islamic and other extremists who oppose negotiations with Israel. … [Hamas] was not willing to go so far as to recognize the existence of Israel but it was prepared to enter into a government of national unity which would have abided by the existing agreements with Israel. … But both Israel and the United States seem to be frozen in their unwillingness to negotiate with a Palestinian Authority that includes Hamas. The sticking point is Hamas’s unwillingness to recognize the existence of Israel; but that [recognition] could be made a condition for an eventual settlement rather than a precondition for negotiations. … The current policy of not seeking a political solution but pursuing military escalation—not just an eye for an eye but roughly speaking ten Palestinian lives for every Israeli one—has reached a particularly dangerous point.”

I was just about to leave when it got ugly at the gate and I was scared. All kinds of security came running in when it got started. They quickly got it settled. But looking around the top of buildings you could see they where focused on that entrance. I was glad to get out of there.

#543 vadaryl: One thing to remember is young people like to be out at happening places with other young people but I would not assume most of them are there for any political reason. Anywhere young people are there is a different energy that is obvious. Kids as young as 14 can look like adults if you are not used to being around them. I would guess a large proportion of people at BOs rallies are not old enough to vote. When BO came to Seattle last year my daughter had 5 people in her classes at school. Everyone else was at the BO happening checking out boys. Remember Hillary got more votes than BO and he held the same type events back then. Also if I were the McCain camp I would hold free concerts or raves on voting day that would appeal to the BO demo in places that were tight in the polls. Just distract them from showing up.

#555 ladyhawkke I was close to the security area and was watching people come in, I had a lousy location for the rally but a good one for observing the entrance. When they stopped people from coming in you could see the anger building, but I know I would of been angry too if I was that close and they stopped me, but this group was there to see their idol if you know what I mean. It was just a political rally.

Moving Ideas Network: This coalition of more than 250 leftwing activist groups is a partner organization of the Soros-backed Center for American Progress. Vote for Change: Coordinated by the political action committee of the Soros-funded MoveOn.org, Vote for Change was a group of 41 musicians and bands that performed concerts in several key election “battleground” states during October 2004, to raise money in support of Democrat John Kerry’s presidential bid.
Working Families Party: Created in 1998 to help push the Democratic Party toward the left, this front group for the Soros-funded ACORN functions as a political party that promotes ACORN-friendly candidates.

The best example of a fascist economy is the regime of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. Holding that liberalism (by which he meant freedom and free markets) had “reached the end of its historical function,” Mussolini wrote: “To Fascism the world is not this material world, as it appears on the surface, where Man is an individual separated from all others and left to himself…. Fascism affirms the State as the true reality of the individual.”
This collectivism is captured in the word fascism, which comes from the Latin fasces, meaning a bundle of rods with an axe in it. In economics, fascism was seen as a third way between laissez-faire capitalism and communism. Fascist thought acknowledged the roles of private property and the profit motive as legitimate incentives for productivity—provided that they did not conflict with the interests of the state.
Fascism in Italy grew out of two other movements: syndicalism and nationalism. The syndicalists believed that economic life should be governed by groups representing the workers in various industries and crafts. The nationalists, angered by Italy’s treatment after World War I, combined the idea of class struggle with that of national struggle. Italy was a proletarian nation, they said, and to win a greater share of the world’s wealth, all of Italy’s classes must unite. Mussolini was a syndicalist who turned nationalist during World War I.
From 1922 to 1925, Mussolini’s regime pursued a laissez-faire economic policy under the liberal finance minister Alberto De Stefani. De Stefani reduced taxes, regulations, and trade restrictions and allowed businesses to compete with one another. But his opposition to protectionism and business subsidies alienated some industrial leaders, and De Stefani was eventually forced to resign. After Mussolini consolidated his dictatorship in 1925, Italy entered a new phase. Mussolini, like many leaders at this time, believed that economies did not operate constructively without supervision by the government. Foreshadowing events in Nazi Germany, and to some extent in New Deal America, Mussolini began a program of massive deficit spending, public works, and eventually, militarism.
Mussolini’s fascism took another step at this time with the advent of the Corporative State, a supposedly pragmatic arrangement under which economic decisions were made by councils composed of workers and employers who represented trades and industries. By this device the presumed economic rivalry between employers and employees was to be resolved, preventing the class struggle from undermining the national struggle. In the Corporative State, for example, strikes would be illegal and labor disputes would be mediated by a state agency.
Theoretically, the fascist economy was to be guided by a complex network of employer, worker, and jointly run organizations representing crafts and industries at the local, provincial, and national levels. At the summit of this network was the National Council of Corporations. But although syndicalism and corporativism had a place in fascist ideology and were critical to building a consensus in support of the regime, the council did little to steer the economy. The real decisions were made by state agencies such as the Institute for Industrial Reconstruction (Istituto per la Ricosstruzione Industriale, or IRI), mediating among interest groups.
Beginning in 1929, in preparation for achieving the “glories” of war, the Italian government used protectionist measures to turn the economy toward autarchy, or economic self-sufficiency. The autarchic policies were intensified in the following years because of both the depression and the economic sanctions that other countries imposed on Italy after it invaded Ethiopia. Mussolini decreed that government bureaus must buy only Italian products, and he increased tariffs on all imports in 1931. The sanctions following the invasion of Ethiopia spurred Italy in 1935 to increase tariffs again, stiffen import quotas, and toughen its embargo on industrial goods.
Mussolini also eliminated the ability of business to make independent decisions: the government controlled all prices and wages, and firms in any industry could be forced into a cartel when the majority voted for it. The well-connected heads of big business had a hand in making policy, but most smaller businessmen were effectively turned into state employees contending with corrupt bureaucracies. They acquiesced, hoping that the restrictions would be temporary. Land being fundamental to the nation, the fascist state regimented agriculture even more fully, dictating crops, breaking up farms, and threatening expropriation to enforce its commands.
Banking also came under extraordinary control. As Italy’s industrial and banking system sank under the weight of depression and regulation, and as unemployment rose, the government set up public works programs and took control over decisions about building and expanding factories. The government created the Istituto Mobiliare in 1931 to control credit, and the IRI later acquired all shares held by banks in industrial, agricultural, and real estate enterprises.
The image of a strong leader taking direct charge of an economy during hard times fascinated observers abroad. Italy was one of the places that Franklin Roosevelt looked to for ideas in 1933. Roosevelt’s National Recovery Act (NRA) attempted to cartelize the American economy just as Mussolini had cartelized Italy’s. Under the NRA Roosevelt established industry-wide boards with the power to set and enforce prices, wages, and other terms of employment, production, and distribution for all companies in an industry. Through the Agricultural Adjustment Act the government exercised similar control over farmers. Interestingly, Mussolini viewed Roosevelt’s New Deal as “boldly… interventionist in the field of economics.” Hitler’s nazism also shared many features with Italian fascism, including the syndicalist front. Nazism, too, featured complete government control of industry, agriculture, finance, and investment.
As World War II approached, the signs of fascism’s failure in Italy were palpable: per capita private consumption had dropped to below 1929 levels, and Italian industrial production between 1929 and 1939 had increased by only 15 percent, lower than the rates for other Western European countries. Labor productivity was low and production costs were uncompetitive. The fault lay in the shift of economic decision-making from entrepreneurs to government bureaucrats, and in the allocation of resources by decree rather than by free markets. Mussolini designed his system to cater to the needs of the state, not of consumers. In the end, it served neither.

Idea for reaching many people with your “anti-BO” posts:
One of the strategies to help defeat BO is to blog all over the internet to help spread our case against him so he’s defeated in Nov.
Here’s one idea on how you can do that in a more efficient and effective manner.
- Create a file in your computer, such as a Word doc, in which you write and save the anti-BO posts that you put extra energy and thought into.
- In that file, write posts now and then which are sort of like mini “Letters to the Editor” or Op-ed pieces (though for posts you don’t have to put as much time and energy into formal writing and editing).
- Write on any current topic, such as Acorn or the fascist “truth squads” or the bracelet thing or any good event, point or case against BO… OR you can write on why BO would not be good for our country (and briefly list the main reason) and urge others to not vote for him. You can also include good links in your post.
- Post your post here (in our PUMApac blog) AS WELL AS all in various websites and blogs in the internet where you think they’ll do the most good.
Include some PUMA/ Just Say No Deal Websites and the McCain site (to enrich the ammunition of people “campaigning” against BO) and also in other websites that reach the general public, esp. undecided voters. These might include news-sites, both local and national (post under any elections-related article) and others… but avoid the pro-BO sites, since their readers are “beyond hope.”
- You can make a few changes in your post before you post in some sites, but generally you can just post the same post everywhere. This way you can reach as many people as possible with your post!
- Gather the links to all the best (or your favorite) Websites to post in so you can quickly go to them and post your post whenever you create a good post.

#559 Seattlegirl I know Hillary got more votes than BHO, but this crowd had a mix of all ages, a lot of college students of course since it was held on campus. The people on stage behind him where being moved around to get the right mix. They had a goup of firefights placed high behind the stage but in great camera view, the rain might of screwed up that shot. The people around me where so excited that their idol was coming they could of cared less of the issues. You wanted to discuss it but you did not dare do it.

Ahmadinejad Feted at Obama Fundraiser’s Hotel
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was feted on Thursday night by left-wing U.S. religious leaders and self-styled pacifists at a gala reception at New York’s Hyatt hotel — which is owned by the family of the Obama campaign’s national finance chairperson, Penny Pritzker.
Several thousand protesters gathered on 42nd street, directly across from the hotel, late Thursday afternoon, including Beth Gilinsky, president of the Jewish Action Alliance; Frank Gaffney, president of the Center for Security Policy; and the Rev. Keith Roderick, the Episcopal canon to persecuted Christians.
Ahmadinejad arrived at 8:45 p.m., nearly three hours late, and was protected by the Secret Service and Iranian security guards, Newsmax correspondent Kenneth R. Timmerman reported.
Inside, the Iranian president was given a warm welcome by John Brademas, a former congressman from Indiana who rose to become Democratic whip in the House from 1977-1981.
Also welcoming him was Nihad Awad, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which was named as an “unindicted co-conspirator” in an alleged criminal conspiracy to fund the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas.
Ahmadinejad began his address with an invocation of the 12th imam, according to a source who attended the event.
He made a similar invocation of the 12th imam at the start of his speech to the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday, adding that he hoped his actions “would hasten the Imam’s return.” He went on to blast Israel and the United States in that speech.
The Mahdivist cult of Shia Islam, to which Ahmadinejad subscribes, holds that the 12th imam will “return” to earth after a period of worldwide conflagration, mass destruction, famine, and starvation.
By calling on his own actions to “hasten” the imam’s return, many scholars of Islam believe that Ahmadinejad is revealing his intention to provoke a world war.
Ahmadinejad has referred to Israel as “a dried, rotten tree that will collapse with a single storm,” and has called on the Muslim world to “prepare for the great war, so as to completely wipe out the Zionist regime and remove this cancerous growth.”
Government buildings in Tehran are festooned with giant banners that read, “Israel should be wiped out of the face of the world” in English and Persian. Similar banners are draped across Shahab-3 missiles when the Iranian regime drives them through the streets of Tehran in military parades, Timmerman reports.
Barack Obama has made negotiations with Ahmadinejad and other dictators a cornerstone of his foreign policy approach, in contrast to John McCain, who believes that the U.S. must spearhead an international coalition to prevent Iran from going nuclear.
Obama has said that he is ready to sit down with Ahmadinejad “without preconditions” to negotiate a sweeping security agreement with his regime. McCain has dismissed this as “reckless,” and McCain’s top foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, has called it “cowboy diplomacy.”

You have a point about that it’s also important to convince others to vote for McCain (not just tell them why they should NOT vote for BO)… However some PUMAs don’t want to promote or campaign directly for McCain.
AND… there have been some studies that have shown that it’s just as effective, or even more effective, to present the “negatives” (or a good case against) the candidate that you don’t want people to vote for as it is to try to convince them to vote for the opponent. (I posted about these studies before)…
I personally plan to vote for McCain. In talking to others I feel that different approaches work with different people. With some, I emphasize BO’s negatives and with others I also talk about why McCain would be a much better choice.

THE DEBATE ARGUMENT HE DIDN’T MAKE – BUT COULD STILL HELP HIM WIN
During Friday’s debate, John McCain assiduously and inexplicably avoided using the issue that might have won him the debate and the presidency: opposition to a taxpayer-funded bailout of the financial crisis.
Congress is about to pass – and the president is about to sign – a bill that the American people detest by 2:1 margins. When Americans realize that there is, indeed, an alternative to handing over $700 billion to financial institutions as a reward for their failure, opposition to the idea will swell even further.
The bailout ideas proposed by the House Republicans and trumpeted by former Speaker Newt Gingrich make eminent sense. Indeed, they make so much sense that it is as if the roles of the parties have been reversed. It is the Republicans who are demanding that the banks and financial institutions pay for their own bailout, granting them only a mixture of loans and premium-paid insurance, while the Democrats want to pass the hat among the taxpayers to buy their dirty paper.
In an unusual act of political foresight and skill, the normally dead-headed House Republican leadership has crafted a platform that can carry the party to victory in November. All that remains is for the Party’s candidate – and perhaps even its president and Treasury Secretary – to get on board. McCain can recover at the negotiating table the economy issue he lost in Friday’s debate. He needs to have the courage of his convictions and insist on a bailout without requiring taxpayer-funded purchase of defunct mortgages from failing institutions.

Dead paper is dead paper whether it is on the books of the government, purchased from banks, or on the books of the banks, insured by the government. The game is the same: Through loans or grants fund the deficient debt service on the defaulted mortgages until homes can recover their value in the cyclical real estate market.
But it makes all the difference in the world politically if this task is accomplished by buying bad debt or by lending the bankers the money to cover their current losses while they keep their bad debts on their books and by insuring them against future losses.
Loans are politically viable. Purchase of bad debt with tax money is not.
The Democrats and our politically-challenged president have failed to appreciate the difference between spending and lending. Treasury Secretary Paulson can be excused for not realizing it. Politics is not his thing.
But John McCain must realize the crucial distinction and must use his leverage to stop a taxpayer-funded bailout, insisting instead on loans and insurance.
If McCain stands firm, the Democrats will either have to pass the bailout package on their own, without Republican votes, and rely on Bush’s signature on the bill to provide a fig leaf of bipartisanship – or they will have to cave in and pass the Republican package.
Either way, McCain comes out ahead.
If he gets his way, he gets credit for the bailout. If he doesn’t, he can spend the campaign attacking Obama and the Democrats for spending $700 billion of taxpayer money.
If the Democrats don’t adopt either course and play a game of chicken with the Republicans, their Congressional status as the majority party dooms them to taking the blame for any ensuing collapse.
Voters can count.
They know that Reid and Pelosi are Democrats and that they control Congress. With this power comes responsibility.
And if the Democrats do nothing – that is they fail to use their majorities to pass a bailout or to cooperate with the Republicans in adopting the GOP version of the package – it is they who will get the blame for the catastrophe which will follow.
The Democrats don’t dare take that chance.
