I just read what I think is an extremely insightful point in an email. The writer, a very smart guy with a LONG memory says,
“ We need to identify ourselves as from the Clinton wing of the party, and continually point out that we represent the base. As writer Michael Lind points out, the Northern “liberal” wing [of the Democratic Party] has Ivy League leadership mills. But populist economic Democrats are nearly WITHOUT LEADERS, except for the random exceptions like and Bill and Hillary. Except for the fluke of skin color, we’d have close to 2/3 of the party on our side this time — even though most of the party leadership defines itself in opposition to us.”
(emphasis mine)
Here’s the thing — the Obama Movement started a civil war in our party. Led by elitists from the “Ivy League leadership mills” (love that phrase), they systematically identified those blocs resistant to their message (that’d be us) and excised them one by one. The idea was that they’d secure the nomination with the SLIMMEST of majorities and then worry about the consequences after. Rural whites? Out! Women over 35? Out! Florida and Michigan? Out! Basically it boils down to Donna Brazile’s famous line: “Message to the base: Stay home.”
The upside to a scorched earth primary strategy was that the Obama message would be unequivocally left-wing and progressive. Hard core opposed to the war; staunch opposition to FISA; resolute opposition to “politics as usual.” Yes, yes, WE know that it was all hooey and that Obama himself contradicted and betrayed his base as soon as Hillary was effectively knee-capped and had to hobble off the field. But, by then it was too late. Obama’s followers were in for the long haul. There is no looking back for the Blogger Boiz, the Ivy Leaguers, and the rest of Whole Foods Nation. Those he persuaded with his message were REALLY, REALLY persuaded. They became his most loyal and permanent followers (think Markos and Josh and Olbermann).
The downside, the danger Obama courted by using a Divide and Conquer strategy, was that he might seriously alienate millions of Democrats whose votes he’d need in November to win. But that was a gamble they made. Their belief was that we’d come around. Women would be sufficiently subdued with the Roe bat to pull the lever for Obama on Election Day. Rural and lower working class whites would be sufficiently afraid of the economic threats of recession, foreclosure, and layoffs to vote against the Republicans and their dismal record. In other words, we’d have nowhere else to go. Of course we’d come around.
But here’s the thing, and it’s why I always say we are the ones no one was expecting: the Obama Movement was both right about us AND wrong. At the same time. They’re right, WE HAVE NOWHERE ELSE TO GO! We will NOT vote for Barack Obama, BUT we know the Republican Party is not our home — it’s not even a nice vacation cottage. That’s the main reason we Pumas are so out of sorts and discouraged lately. We really AREN’T closet Republicans (Message to the Republicans: Stay on your side of the yard! Just kidding. Sort of.) For some of us, voting against the DONC and Obama by voting in protest for McCain is as easy as pie. These are the moderate-to-conservative Democrats for whom the tenets of Whole Foods Nation are anathema. But for another huge part of our Puma base, voting for McCain is an excruciatingly difficult thing to do — so hard that many of us just won’t be able to do it. These are the moderate-to-liberal Democrats for whom the tenets of Whole Foods Nation are pretty much a-okay! But they’re still not voting for McCain — Pumas in this camp will vote third party or write-in or stay home.
It is more important than ever that we stay united as Pumas. Remember what my email friend said: “Populist economic Democrats are nearly WITHOUT LEADERS”! We know who we are. We know it in our bones that Obama is wrong for our country and even more wrong for our Party. But we DON’T know who’s in charge. Hillary’s back in the Senate, sidelined from national leadership. Bill’s direct influence is limited on all official sides by the DONC, which wants above all else to KEEP BILL CLINTON CONTAINED! So, if we feel rudderless, it’s because we are. This is what the Obama Movement was wrong about. We know we have nowhere else to go, but we also know just as sure as can be that we are NOT going back to the DONC.
So, look in the mirror and face the facts. There are no leaders here. There is no politician or public figure who can sit for us at the table of national power and speak for us or represent our interests. Hillary’s on Capitol Hill mulling her next moves and brooding over what happened. Bill is being Bill (which is a very good thing, but his days of being President are over). We have only ourselves to rely on. This is THE most difficult phase of our movement, while we watch the national election play out without our enthusiastic or whole-hearted participation. Some of us have found, and will continue to find it too tempting not to just jump on the McCain bandwagon. That’s VERY understandable. You can still be a Puma if you’re also a Democrat working for McCain. It’s okay.
The rest of us are discouraged, lonely, and feeling useless. Working for local congressional candidates is a very good thing to do, but it just doesn’t have the Zing and the Rush of a Presidential campaign. But, if we allow our sense of loss and isolation to fuel attacks on each other WE ARE SUNK. Let’s remind ourselves that, as Democrats, we are BY DEFINITION a motley rag-tag group. We are working class, diverse, and far-flung. We found out this year that the DNC doesn’t care about us and would MUCH rawther carry on without our participation or even our votes.
So Puma PAC, if we want to have a leader we’ll have to create one from within. We will have to stay united with each other, with the clear-eyed acceptance that we represent a VAST range of different lifestyles and backgrounds, from really quite conservative all the way to fringe hippie peace-nik free-lovers. Our common and precious shared goal is a love for democracy, fair play, and a level playing field for all citizens — rich or poor, black or white or yellow or brown, woman or man.
When we decided to revolt against the DONC and Obama and every Democrat who shrieks “STUPID RACIST UGLY OLD FAT IGNORANT HYSTERICAL RACIST BITCH” at us; when we committed ourselves to NOT COMING AROUND, we set ourselves on a long and lonely road of rebellion. This will take TIME. But, most importantly, it will take UNITY. That is the secret to Obama’s success. He divided us. Let’s NOT continue his work for him. Let’s recommit ourselves to unity with each other.
No to Obama. Yes to Puma.

Letter:
Dear House Republican Leader John Boehner,
Thank you for sticking up for the American taxpayers by not letting the Democrats push ACORN earmarks on us.
I am a PUMA (Hillary Clinton supporter), a life long Democrat and I am neither voting for Senator Obama nor do I support the corruption caused in the primary by Obama, the DNC and ACORN voter fraud.
Please stick to your guns on this and don’t give an inch.
This year, the Republican’s are the good guys and the Democratic Party I have supported all my life is shameful.

No gypsy. That’s because Drac doesn’t know me and vice versa.
Glad you remembered me though. Amazing that I’m still a puma, though. Sarah Palin and John McCain have really sidetracked me. But I am all for reform in other ways too. Like PUMA changing the Democratic party.
Hope you are well financially and otherwise, gypsy. Be thankful you live in Texas. We’re still having a good ol’ time aren’t we?

I know, I read your post downstairs, posted here, and then read your piece… excellent. Thank you for putting words to this low grade anxiety and lack of balance I’ve been experiencing.
PS I take exception to the whole foods nation label and class generalizations. As you’ve said, in so many words and different way, we aren’t a monolithic , one-mind, group think movement. We’re inclusive and that includes high school dropouts and ivy league graduates, aldis and whole foods shoppers, latte sippers and nescafe slurpers, unemployed, working class, creative class, middle class, upperclass, no class, etc. Just saying…

REPOST
To be hand delivered:September 27, 2008
Dear Representative Tsongas,
Dear Senator Kennedy,
Dear Senator Kerry,
We demand that Congress stops adding earmarks and pork within the contents of the “Bail Out Bill”. In addition we do not want a payout to ACORN.
We feel this is an egregious abuse of House and the Senate positions in Congress. Enough is enough.
We will no longer continue to vote or support any Representative or Senator who votes for bills with earmarks and pork or allots money to ACORN.
This is despicable! Your jobs are on the line, this is a betrayal of trust! I no longer trust the Democrats, you make the Republicans look like choir boys!!!
November 4th is the day you see, as you sowed so shall you reap!! SHAME!
Sincerely,
I said “though” twice in two consecutive sentences. That’s ugly grammar.

I have been going to as many city/states that I can. In SEARCH, you can type in a state and topix such as “Colorado topix” and it will lead you to that state’s concerns and news. Or, you can type in Pueblo Colorado Topix and get different issues they are discussing.
I feel I can get to more undecideds on this forum. Before I went on any blog or message board, this is the place I used to go to for news and comments.
I have had over 300 opportunities to post what is below. The first post I swiped from one of our PUMAs last week and then added some of my comments. The second post speaks for itself.

FIRST POST
As a Hillary democrat, I will be voting for McCain because of this:
“I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005,
S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation.
If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the
enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall
financial system, and the economy as a whole.
I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.” – John
McCain 2005
Legislation failed.
The failure of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac could have been averted IF Federal Housing
Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 had been passed.
Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 only had three co-sponsors :
Elizabeth Dole, John McCain and John Sununu. For Nancy Pelosi blaming the GOP is
downright an insult to ALL of US TAXPAYERS!

oversee-fannie-and-freddiein-2005/
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=s109-190
Gee, and who did the now Government financed mortgage broker Fannie Mae give its
money to when it wanted to influence a politician?
OpenSecrets lists the top three politicians in which FNMA “invested” from 1989 to 2008.
Top Recipients of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac Campaign Contributions, 1989-2008Name
Office State Party Grand Total
Dodd, Christopher S CT D $165,400
Obama, Barack S IL D $126,349 ($6000 came from the PAC)
Kerry, John S MA D $111,000
What about McCain?
The folks at Fannie Mae didn’t show him a lot of love. According to Open Secrets:
McCain, John S AZ R $21,550 (all from individuals).
Oh yeah, and who tabbed the former head of Fannie Mae to head up his Vice Presidential
search team? OBAMA, that’s who. Back in May Barack turned to Jim Johnson, former
CEO of Fannie Mae.
The Congressional democrats have ruined our economy. Bye, bye, dear party. I am moving to the fiscal conservatives for now.

Dear Editor,
As a lifelong Democrat and Hillary Clinton supporter I am amused by the hysteria the mainstream media and my fellow Democrats have fallen into over Sarah Palin. Ms. Palin is not running for President, but Barack Obama is. So I’d like to ask these Obama fantatics a few questions.
Is it OK to nominate for President of the United States a man with virtually no experience on the national or international stage?
Do you feel it shows integrity to make a commitment to a friend by the name of Alice Palmer and then break your word, obliterating her name from the ballot?
Do you find that it is in line with your moral standards that we nominate someone who found it acceptable to remain an active member of a church that espoused hateful rhetoric?
Can you ignore the fact that we nominate a person who, as a state senator, avoided controversial issues by voting “present” a disproportionately frequent number of times?
Are you comfortable with nominating someone who has shifted their position on so many issues in such a short amount of time – including off shore drilling and FISA – that it is unprecedented for a Presidential candidate?
Is it acceptable that a Presidential nominee who touts equal pay for equal work pays his female staffers 83 cents on the dollar as compared to his male staffers? Really, think about that one.
Lastly, even if you were O.K. with all of the above, what if you were a Hillary Clinton supporter and were aware that Caucus Fraud took place in the state of Texas, would you still be able to vote for the Democratic candidate?
There. Now I hope I have answered the ever-present question the media keeps asking: “Why won’t Hillary backers support Obama?”
Hey Murphy, My youngest grand daughter Krysten wanted me to tell you, she ran for Student Council 3rd grade, and she won as “class representative. She said she “wrote her own speech and everything! You know she is the shy one lol. She wanted me to pass that news on to you. She loved being at Puma HQ!

Not lonely here–got PUMAs for good company. Finding PUMA and the larger JSND blogosphere was a gift of grace when I was despondent over Hillary’s loss.
Leaders will emerge. Out of ashes, Phoenix rises. It is a government of the people, and we must remember the power we have.
But to get ashes, we have to toast this election for the Dems.
Murphy…and also DWP#14. I am very struck and thankful for these posts. I keep remembering Murphys prior post on how the Republicans love their base…all of them. This alone has had me take serious consideration as to what the Democratic Party is for me… Dead.
I do agree with both of you. We need to stay united and be as inclusive as we can keeping to the principles we hold dear.
You go Krysten!
Tell Krysten that we’ll be watching for her and we expect her to keep running! To get stronger and smarter and braver every year until she is ready and able to be President!

The reason BO’s people wanted to seem as though he would not do well in the debate was to continue to be the underdog until the Palin/Biden debate. They are hoping she falls flat, the people will take anther look at BO. I heard this from a bot who I work with.

right now we can not have a puma president
we have to work 1 thing at a time
although is been said that female can do various things at once
therefore for me the most important thing is that obama does not get elected
voting MCCAIN IS A LESSER EVIL
for the DNC to work, and continue the legacy that once had,, the whole corporation has to change, and maybe something should be done with those that acted against the party ´s high principles, i am sure that almost all members of the party are decent politicians, the party has been hijacked heavens knows by what kind of web, and who in the hell is behind
but right now, in our noses we have NOV.4, after that we should star the rescue of the party, or start a new one, why not
Billie Joe
Loved the Puma. Printed out 6 copies. Will hand write Nobama/November on it at use it as a poster to distribute.
RE: 22
I usually don’t have time to go back to the posts I’ve made on topix to see what the responses are, but I did notice this one just now and wanted to share it with the PUMAs. The poster thanked me for the fact finding, but the thanks goes to the PUMA I swiped this info from.
Good job on the fact finding! Be prepared to get a lot of negative responses for your post from the liberal left. They have a big problem with anyone who tries to use facts or logic against them. Emotions and insults seem to be the rule of thumb when it comes to the “tolerant” liberals. Remember, according to the liberals, if you are not fully supporting Saint Obama in all of his endeavours, you must be a rascist, a hick, a gun-toting psychopath, or worse yet, a Patriot. Thank you for your dose of reality and the great job you did finding these facts, and backing them up.

Hi Pumas!
Yes Obama succeeded in dividing our party BUT he will never conquer those of us on mission. Our mission is honorable and self-less so therefore a bridge to democracy will be forged…
a mccain victory in november would change the dynamics of the PUMA movement ..obama leaving the scene would free PUMA up to become more actively involved as candidate supporters who we feel are good as well as an issue and reform oriented group … anti-DNC corruption and anti-GOP regressive policies..
but all of these things will require a platform and program that can keep PUMA cohesive instead of everyone going off and doing their own thing because there will be no more NOBAMA too keep us united

Thanks Hills and Stoney…. it’s how I have been feeling for weeks. Use it all you like.
Yes, I have been watching the Drudge polls since last night…they are my new news heros in this election.
Not to worry too much, gypsy. Hang in there til at least November 4.
My friend in Massachusetts is confident Obama will not only lose, but by a landslde. He’s always comparing him to McGovern. And my friend is a staunch Democrat who thinks very lowly of Republican priciples, so for him to feel the way he does about Obama is something remarkable.
PUMA’s mission is really quite simple. If enough women vote for McCain/ Palin and not the Democrats’ selected one and his gaffe doll then Obama is defeated right there. No other demographic need we concern ourselves with. PUMA simply needs to convince a large percentage of women to vote for McCain this year.
I’ll take care. I’ve got a wonderful cat depending on me. You too, gypsy. Take care, be happy.

If you have others would you mind emailing tem to actioncenter@pumapac.org ? Add a line for so I know something about the subject. Thanks.
I am aware that some PUMAs do not intend to vote for McCain – and I respect that.
But for those who do plan to vote for McCain, I’d like to suggest that we make a point to communicate regularly on the McCain-Palin campaign Website. http://www.johnmccain.com/Contact
You may recall during the primaries when all the pundits and media were saying Hillary should quit and were writing negative comments daily. But Hill said she knew she had support because her supporters were writing her and letting her know regularly that they wanted her to stay in the contest and keep fighting.
For those of us who are voting fro McCain, we should want him to know that we are behind him.
- When he says or does something you like – take the time to go the McCain website and let his campaign know.
- When he says or does something you don’t like or that you think will push away democrats who do not plan to vote for BO – go to the McCain website and tell them what you think.
- When you see a lot of negative publicity or hear a pundit saying something that is biased – go to the McCain’s website and share what you saw and let them know you disagree.
- Share in your notes on the McCain website what you are doing to promote the ticket whether it is distributing fliers, or writing to some of the biased news websites – whatever you are doing, share that information with the McCain campaign.
- Offer input on things that BO says or does which you think McCain campaign should go after that may help attract Dems or undecided.
And you can do the same at that site if you have comments or suggestions to share regarding Palin. She’s taking such a beating in the media and I’m sure the campaign would like to share some input with her whether it’s positive or suggestions.
Let’s be active in sharing our ideas and our reactions so the McCain campaign has a way to gauge how things are going without relying on only the biased media.
Of course when you write on the website, identify yourself as a PUMA and state that you were a supporter of Hillary in the primaries. Let them know if you are someone who has always voted Dem in the past, but you are not going to do that this time.
If we can explain why we are not voting for BO, it may give the campaign ideas for what they can do to attract others like us or things they can forward to their pundits to promote when on tv news programs.
Think about it – if the McCain campaign is receiving enough feedback from the voters – they will be better able to ignore the pundits or the polls because they know first hand that they have voters who may not be in those polls but who are not voting for BO.
We may not be able to change many voters minds as much as we’d like these last weeks before the election, but we can certainly help the republican candidate by letting him know regularly that we are here and prepared to turn our backs on the Dems in November to vote for the republican ticket.
If we can communicate with McCain as we did with Hill during her contest, we can help to keep his staff & campaign upbeat and optimistic. We can provide them with our words to counter the negative words they hear or read on these news programs.
Instead of sitting in our individual homes fuming over how biased the tv media is and how our point of views are not being shared = let’s make sure we keep the McCain website busy with our concerns, support, suggestions, feedback and commitment.
Try to write on the site several times per week – even if it’s only a short sentence that affirms your support or encourages McCain to not be discouraged by the negative media hype.
And don’t forget to visit the blogs which exist for democrats who support McCain – and add a comment.
Hillary used to tell the stories often about the letters and notes she received and how she appreciated the input. We should do no less for McCain if we want to see him defeat BO.
Go on the site this week-end and send your thoughts about the debate. If you have ideas about what McCain could do differently next time, or things you think worked well – tell them. This is the time to be vocal and to show our support so it is tangible & visible to the McCain campaign. Telling each other what we wish McCain would do or not do is okay – but sending it to the source is even better.

Once you have voted again you need to do this process all over again
which takes about 2 minutes.
I agree, Maxgrader. The objective of the mission is simple in my eyes. Swell the ranks of the other side. Divided we lose the numbers that can make it happen. I respect that others have deep feelings and can’t go there (to McCain), but I hope there are enough PUMAs and independents who can see it as a tolerable means to a greater end…a chance for reform by the people. Rebellion isn’t for the faint of heart. You have to get your hands dirty. You have to shed some blood. You have to make some sacrifices. You have to take a stand.
And for me–the battle-scarred Vietnam vet with the philanthropic heart is worth some respect.
thank you Billie Jo
Is anyone here interested in ‘making’ their own button to wear? I know as women, many of us are pretty handy with our hands………….hehehe.
I have made a graphic that turned out pretty cool with a faded background of a fancy Obama background, and written across the button in front are just the words…
Caucus Fraud
Delegate Intimidation
(lynettelong.com/caucusfraud/
It fits on a 2.25″ button. Easy to cover over another button or peal off old cover, pull front off with a pin or finger nail, carefully fold all the edges in, pop the two parts back together and there you have it.
Not sure if anyone wants it or if it would be okay to go up on the Action Center or not.

I discovered this little solution when I ordered 10 of the wrong buttons online and was determined to use them.

How about a section on:
PUMA graphics for flyers or buttons?
We can put small graphics for buttons.
Larger ones for flyer backgrounds.
I’ll send the button graphic with instructions on how to change the image on a button. (Two files)

I know what you’re saying. I was involved in a world news online community for years… then I overdosed on politics, and distanced myself. Decided, for a few reasons, that this would be the last time I’d vote…
and then the freakazoids messed with my party, messed with our elections, messed with teh only qualified candidate to come down the ‘pike in several years, messed with racial relations, and messed with women …
and that meant they messed with me.
If anyone had told me that within a year I’d be relying on Fox for my news, depending on Drudge and newsmax for credible information, considering voting for a Republican Presidential (or any office, for that matter), candidate,
that I’d be numb to accusations of racism, and dulled to the causes and support of other minority and disenfranchised classes and groups, except women… I seriously would have considered commiting them.
Now… here I am.

#98 Dances, wow! What an honest comment. I feel similarly.
I am here to stay- my hope is after Nov 4 we begin to work on reforming the party or building a new one but for now I believe our main objective must be to see a landslide defeat for Barry and his minions. Without a landslide the morons at the DNC, aided by the goons in the MSM will come up with some ridiculous excuses why he lost.
We need a landslide of Mondale magnitude.
I worry we will not get it.
The only way to achieve a true landslide is voting McCain.
I would much rather vote Nader, as I think he is the only sane one in the bunch but the reality is that would be a wasted vote. Not only will I vote for McCain but I will work to get him elected- I will phone bank into the swing states.
I am a left leaning liberal- which is exactly why I will not support this corrupt gaming operation this year. Although I am left leaning- I believe government must be done from the middle.
And let me say, those self-proclaiming left liberals don’t have a clue how to define themselves as what it means to be a lefty. Ask an Obot what makes them a leftist- same blank face and empty rhetoric they have been regurgitating ad nauseum.
The only way to re-build our party is to implode it as it currently stands- right down to teh foundation. Then let the people with a clue what it means to be a democrat- let them rebuild it (that’s us, isn’t it?)

McCain-Obama debate pulls average early rating
83029223 The first debate between John McCain and Barack Obama is on track to pull a surprisingly average viewership number, drawing fewer households in the preliminary ratings than George W. Bush’s face off against John Kerry four years ago.
In the meter-market overnights, Friday night’s 90-minute debate in Mississippi received a preliminary household rating of 33.2, according to Nielsen Media Research.
I think this is worthy of a re-post.

I commented a while ago about how, all my life I have been a leftist political activist. (i.e. I was involved in SNCC when I was 14, etc.) How I believed whole heartedly that a rising tide lifts all boats, and marched, protested, sacrifice to force that tide to ebb. And, here I am, almost 5 decades since those activist beginnings, only to realize that the boat carrying women is the only one still anchored at the bottom of the sea; that the sexism and misogyny came not only from those from whom I expected it, but it came from the very groups we’ve marched with side by side, it came from my own hypocritical party, and it came from (mostly) men of all colors, ages, religions, and sexual orientations; and the women who have internalized that sexism, and who will alwyas align themselves with power… regardless that those in power will use and discards them when they are no longer of any use to them.

I found Inkjet Transfer Paper (iron on) at either Michaels or Hobby Lobby and also at Walmart that you can download pictures from your computer and copy them onto the transfers and print on t-shirts. Murphy and fellow PUMAS
To swim against the tide is not easy, to rebel against our pary is not for the faint hearted indeed; it requires strong beliefs and convictions, it requires strong adherence to principle of right and wrong. I have seen thousands of people succumbed to pressure, if they don’t align themselves with the powerful they’d be lost in the sea of warm bodies clinging unto somethingfor acceptance.
Stay focus PUMAS, the rebels of today, will be acknowledge tomorrow as freedom fighters; group of people regardless of their background, ethnicity, status in society, bravely stand up side by side, hand in hand against their party who muffled their voices by telling them, “get over it, fall in line.” It was not a request nor a gentle persuasion but a command like a Gestapo during WW2.
Many would say, “I can’t stand Republicans,” yet, unknowingly, they break bread and share a bottle of wine with a person who is a Republican. Do you disown a family member because that person is not align with your political leanings? Would you disown your own child because your child does not follow your political leanings? It would be hypocritical for anyone to say, “I can’t stand Republicans.” Ask those soldiers who had been to war, if they ask a soldier beside them in their foxhole if they ask first what is the person’s political affiliation.
A lot of you may hate me for this, but I am one of those people who reach out, across the aisle because the cause I am fighting for is greater than myself or my political leaning.
I am American first, my country comes first, my political leaning comes in poor second, what about you?
#62 NoHillaryNoVote,
I agree with you 100%. I am a PUMA that will be voting for McCain. This is the first time in my life that I am planning to vote for a Republican.
I really think it’s a great idea for the PUMAS that are planning to vote for McCain to go to the McCain-Palin site to offer them support and suggestions about how to beat NObama.
I also think it’s a good idea to donate there and to make phone calls to the swing states so that we can help defeat NObama.
Wonderful post Murphy. We PUMA must always remember, we are a coalition of demographics united in purpose that the corruption and vice of the DONC cannot, must not, and WILL NOT be rewarded for their treacherous machinations. I am a moderate to liberal democrat and I knew on June 1st that indeed, what I suspected, was true, that the fix was in, and this dance of death will not end until it is over, completely over. After November 4th, when Obama is sent packing back to Chicago, we will still have to wrest control of the Democratic Party from the filthy rotten corrupt Chicago machine that owns it right now. We have our work cut out for us. We will be tried, our determination and grit will be tested. not just now, but for years to come. The best thing that could happen to this end is the defeat of the DONC and Obama on November 4th. These times are too perilous to let our nation into the hands of these evil people. We must fight, and we must fight together. And we have to keep our eyes on the prize. We are the ones no one was expecting, and we are the greatest roadblock to them achieving their goals. I believe a higher power filled our hearts with discernment so that we would recognize the dangers of this flawed and dangerous candidate. The better woman, the best candidate who would have won this election, was knifed in the back and neutralized. We must stand where she was forced down. We must fight where she was tied down and could not fight back. We are in this for the long haul. PUMA< do not be discouraged. Our cause is greater than we can even imagine at this time. We will not roll over, we will not retreat. We will stand and we will fight this. I am in it and stand with you until my last breath.
What Asian4Hillary just said too!!!
#52 maxgrader
Good to have you drop in! As for just women voting, I don’t think that will do it as ACORN has been working on throwing this election probably since Obama started his run. It will have to be a landslide victory to defeat the Oba messiah and that will take ALL of us.
#133 Utah
We’re looking at Germany in the 1930s. I’m very scared that our leaders seem to be complicit in this. No one seems to care what BO is up to. DEM leaders are trying their best to get his ACORN money for him, to keep developing his Obama Camps , his Civilian Army, and his fraud units. When I try to tell my friends and even my relatives, they think I’ve slipped over the edge.

Where does it end…. hopefully on Nov 4th. If not, we are in deep sh!t and it often reminds me of someone in Germany that wrote a book, riled up the public, got young people to turn on the adults and ended up as the devil himself. I hope this is not a repeat in history!

Thank you for that link. Read some, bookmarked (and will post to the action center (Elections and Sexism sections… sorry, I’ve been an action center savant for the past two weeks.) and will read entire article when I finish with a project I’m working on right now.
I did read most of the blog at The Confluence about the 30% solution. That’s a good bottom line goal, and I prefer a 51% or higher solution. As for the election of 3% solution for GLBT, great, as long as they’re all women.

One day after Oblabla et al. had to acknowledge receipt of the court documents, Oblabla issued a statement saying his Kenyan citizenship didn’t matter, because it expired in ’82 (when he turned 21). Which clearly acknowledges that he had such citizenship. Nothing yet on his (additional) Indonesian citizenship, which he had to explicitly and formally renounce with an Oath of Allegiance before he turned 22 — but apparently did not do.
On Sept 24 the DNC applied to have the suit dismissed because Berg “did not have standing”; under review, should be resolved fairly quickly.

#125 You said it all. I was never an activist, but I admired Liberation Theology, for example. I was outraged when I saw how that was distorted by Wright, Pfleger, et al. Apparently, hatred of women is a religious dogma for those guys. Liberation theology should remain the provenance of Latinos before the Chicago ministry completely destroys it.
If anything, this election has compelled thoughtful people everywhere to re-examine ideology and affiliation in light of all the hypocrisy we’ve witnessed, and maybe that’s the growth we needed. Reaching across the aisle is a start.

Murphy, You are a leader! I think we should stay together as a PAC forever! We have much in common. I hope with McCain/Palin’s help, we can purge the Dem Party of the BO influence. My hometown paper says, based on a focus group undecideds were swayed slightly more to JM by the debate-let’s hope they’re right. There’s still a lot to do. Here is a link to Claire McCaskill, a minion for the ‘truth’ squad.
http://mccaskill.senate.gov/contact/
I sent her the following e-mail:
The Obama “Truth” Squad is despicable and a violation of civil rights. What in the world is wrong with you? It is increasingly evident that Obama supporters are playing by their own rule book, have contempt for American citizens, and are carrying out a political jihad against any one who chooses to not fall in line behind this very fragile and ridiculous candidate.
We are glad that Governor Blunt had the courage and decency to speak out against this and have encouraged others on the PUMA website to support your Governor for protecting American voters from the egregious abuses of the Obama campaign.
Ok here is what needs to happen, Hillary could do it, if not her than who? I say she has nothing to lose.
This 7 billion bailout is Bull $h!t. It is more of the trickle down theory, it rewards the rich men who caused this crisis with their bad behavior and greed, Most of the money will go to foreign banks, we don’t even know what it is the government will be buying because they have lied and obscured the specifics, we do know that no one in the free market wants it. We can expect since it is run by the gov and Wall Street it will be a magnate for corruption, we will never see anything for our money and any jobs they save they will ship overseas.
So someone with some nads needs to stand up and say ENOUGH! No to the bail out of rich men. Now we know there will be a crash of the markets and we know Americans will be left without jobs so we are going to have good unemployment benefits extended for 18 months. We are going to have infra structure building programs to put people to work. We are going to have skills programs to teach people who want to learn a new trade, and we are going to have a reasonable insurance plan you can buy. Go to hell Wall Street. Folks we are in for a rough ride but we are Americans and we can take it , be nice to your neighbors, Let’s roll!
If something like this doesn’t happen I say it is time for a revolution.

Welcome, jump right in. If you seem to get passed over just re-post. The blog is so busy these days folks can sometimes feel ignored.
Thank you for giving me attention CyberFerret52 – that was kind of you. Right now I am observing and do not want to be out of place by putting in my lowly comments – JUST YET.
I just came back from visiting my dad’s sister. Mom and I haven’t gone to see her since before mom’s hip replacement on Aug 1. My aunt is a staunch dem. I asked her if she was going to vote and she said yes. She indicated that she absolutely positively ABHORS Palin. Mom and I both asked why. She insisted that having a disabled child Palin should stay home and take care of it. She also said that Palin is evil. Well, she said “I get all my information from the newspaper and tv just like you do”. Well, for her there is no station except CNN, and the local paper has (for as long as I can remember) been strong far left-wing democrat. The more liberal the candidate is, the more our paper loves them. She, like most of the people in my area in the Fox Valley, hate Palin and Mac, and love Obama… but have no reason for doing so. When you try to pin them down on an answer they get furious with you (like my aunt did) and start the attacks. I am, according to these people, an idiot, a fool, absolutely nuts, and a racist. That is so depressing. Why can’t we talk sense with these people? Even though they HAVE no reasons for making their choice of candidate, they seem to go ballistic if you want to discuss it reasonably and talk logic with them…. sigh….
#182 Frodo
No problem. Just do what you are comfortable with and again welcome.
For nine months, we have watched Obama, the DP, and the MSM destroy our nomination process. Obama’s nomination has only come about through backroom deals-super delegates bought off, the DP turning a blind eye to the caucus fraud, the race baiting and sexism directed at Hillary, and the threats and intimidation by Obama and his campaign.
The public is performing the work of the media. We are vetting the Democratic candidate and they are deliberately turning a blind eye to his questionable associates, the dirty money in his campaign, and the cheating committed by ACORN. No one in the media is connecting the dots except for the American voter. This nation cannot tolerate a President like Obama that will govern like a dictator.
I do not expect Puma Pac to endorse McCain because of their PAC status. However, we are fooling ourselves, if we expect anything to change with an Obama win. The only way to reform our Democratic Party is for a McCain victory in November. Let’s get to work.
#182 Frodo: Your comments are not lowly. I am sure they are good observations. Don’t be afraid to post you guys. That is where ideas come from. Some ideas are no good, some go no where, some can be built on and some just come out great. You never know, just throw out your observations and see where they go.
Hey I work in medical research, 90% of what we try doesn’t work but we just keep trying. You have to to move forward.

#183 KarenWI The BOites are typical cult people. They want an authority to come in, tell them what to think and what to do and tell them there are no other choices. If you challenge that you are a threat to them. They might actually have to think on their own. I really suspect many of these BOites will be too dumb to figure out how to vote. They are sort of like walking dead or something.
I do think the young ones are OK and will grow into fine people with time and they can’t vote so I don’t even argue with them.
Thank you Cyber – have been using it to send letters to editors, using it for TV stations, using the two free faxes, have been around awhile – just not public.

Evenignal.
Agreat day out and about. The topic was of course the debate.
Carpathia’s team said it was a draw. The McCAin people said it was a McCain victory and the Hillary supporters called it embarrassing.
Also a long time supporter of “O’ admitted he can’t win. Shocked me to no end. She also said that an independent by any other name is a republican.
The momentum is definitely against “O”.
At last PUMAs are embracing the realities of our situation. This is the moment I have been waiting for PUMAs to embrace. The time has come for us to fashion this movement into the political force it needs to become if we are to effectively bring reform to the Democratic Party. It is up to us. There are no doubt members of the party leadership that agree with us, but will they stand without the support of the people?
The delegates to the Continental Congress, before voting to declare independence from Britain, attempted to secure a peaceful redress of their grievances. The king’s reply came replete with a condemnation of the request, along with the warning that if the rebels failed to desist, the leaders would face the gallows. When the issue of independence was brought to a vote, the delegates voted unanimously (with New York abstaining). They put their lives on the line because they knew the people they were there to represent were standing with them.
We must assume leadership now. We must be the voice. And yes, we are putting our necks on the line.

So shtuey. Whats your plan?
So many of these dems… and even some repubs… seem to not care about US anymore. They are bowing to corrupt agencies like ACORN…. it’s like they live in a different world than us. McCain is not like that, and neither is Palin. However, Dean, Pelosi, Obama, and so many who are fighting to keep giving ACORN 20% of OUR MONEY, are… well… what are they? Do you think there is something in the water in the congressional buildings and the white house? Some mind-altering drug or something? No.. I don’t think so. I think we’ve been duped. We in this group are just now having our “eyes opened” and are seeing what is REALLY happening behind those closed doors. I’m sure that for years this same kind of garbage has been going on, but we just were oblivious to it. We just “blindly” trusted them to take care of us, and didn’t really check much to make sure that they were really working FOR US. This election, starting with what happened to Hillary, has been a “reality check” for all of us. We’ve grown up. The sad part is, so many others are still walking in the same oblivious fog that we were walking in for so long. What can we do to shake them out of that fog? What “light” can we shine on them so that they “see” what we are seeing? All we can do is keep trying… and pray.
While reading the blogs – the previews of a new movie coming out next Friday called Blindness – makes me think what would happen IF BO became President – the trailer showed how the Government had coverups and became Big Brother to our citizens. Can never allow BO to become President – Hillary was our choice – but never BO —
How was that Cyber for my first post — am I catching on??

John McCain gives Barack Obama a master class in foreign policy
John McCain emerged the clear victor from last night’s U.S. presidential debate on foreign policy. With the swagger and aggression of an experienced prizefighter, McCain laid punch after punch on his Democrat opponent, after a shaky start discussing the Wall Street financial crisis. After recovering from the opening 20 minutes which focused on economic issues, McCain was in his element discussing the biggest international questions of the day, from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to the looming threats posed by Iran and Russia.
The Arizona Senator exuded confidence and experience, while pouring scorn on Obama’s pledge to sit down with Iranian tyrant Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, or his failure to take an immediate strong stance against Moscow when Russian tanks poured into Georgia. McCain reeled off a long list of international leaders he had met in his long career as well as recounting his numerous trips to Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Caucasus.
At times, Obama looked more like a freshman in his first debate at the Oxford Union than a candidate for president of the United States. His answers frequently appeared wooden, stilted and over-rehearsed. His knowledge of international affairs came across as superficial, and at times seemed nervously snatched from the pages of a college textbook. McCain spoke overwhelmingly from personal knowledge with an extensive and expansive understanding of modern history. For a 72-year old, Senator McCain looked sharper, more nimble and quick-footed than his far younger…
Frodo, you are doing just fine!
Thank you, KarenWI, just a little nervous – its so much easier lurking and doing the prowls and voting and sending letters to everyone – then putting your viewpoints down for the world to see – but I will get the hang of it with good Pumas all around.

I am so sorry, it’s the result of the msm which has become the American Pravda. People are being exploited and brainwashed. It won’t work on everyone but, their success rate so far is frightening. Means more work for Pumas to do. We have to wake people up before the msm takes them down.

I was just over at johnMcCain.com. On their site they have lots and lots of positive media comment about McCain in last nights debate. Stuff the main stream media won’t print.
I love Sarah Palin. On debate night, I don’t care if she comes out nude and skins a moose, I am proud to vote for McCain/Palin.
And by the way, I have come to the conclusion that 90% of the comments on CNN’s political ticker, are done by paid Obama bloggers. Just look at the names and cities. (all swing states). With names like ‘Republican woman for Obama’. There is not a Republican alive that would vote for Obama( unless they are A/A, and it is out of solidarity). Obama has no crossover appeal.

U.S. Democrats seek Wall Street tax in bailout plan
Sat Sep 27, 2008 6:40pm EDT
WASHINGTON, Sept 27 (Reuters) – Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives are pushing for a new Wall Street tax that would cover the potential costs of a $700 billion bailout being negotiated by Congress and the Bush administration.
U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, speaking to reporters after a meeting with fellow Democrats, said the fee could be assessed after five years if the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office determined taxpayers had lost money in the bailout.
“If after five years … the CBO decides that the American taxpayer has lost money in this, then there would be a fee on financial institutions,” Pelosi said, adding that she hoped the provision could be part of a final bailout deal.
Pelosi said that the Secretary of the Treasury could determine how to assess the fee.

#214 bodi1313.. well, coming out nude and skinning a moose would sure bring the ratings up, LOL! To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if this debate isn’t going to have one of the highest viewing audience numbers in history. Anybody know if the debate last night had very many viewers or not?
I brought up a good point in a “discussion ” with an “o” supporter today. Imagine if we had a republican president witha 50% approval rating. Where would bo be?
Shows what a weak a candidate the dems have presented.

karenwi.. if we are heading into an economic depression how in heavens name can the demos assume..
“If after five years … the CBO decides that the American taxpayer has lost money in this, then there would be a fee on financial institutions,”
fees on failed institutions??? why they are already failed even before the economy gets sucked into the great depression black hole..
this bailout is a joke..just a cynical tactic to let wall street and their cronies get their hands on more money before the USS titanic goes under….

I agree. Maybe it has something to do with BO texting his supporters and advising them to watch the debate on CNN. I also know they never post one of my comments, and fewer anti-BO comments overall. I think I may even despise them more than MSNBO

#225 Frodo…. well then count me in. Oh, by the way… McCain and Hillary are good friends too. There is a photo of them somewhere that I’ve always liked. McCain and Hillary looking like they are sharing a secret.. and McCain is looking at her with a soft expression that says a LOT….

The bracelet he should be wearing is one that says “property of the Chicago PD” and is silver.
I have to admit…politics is making me extremely depressed. I’ve been glued to Lifetime TV all day. I think if it gets any damned worse I’m liable to take every pill in the house. Which includes about 100 ambien.
I don’t want to vote for anyone. I went from being excited about Hillary to apathetic about being democrat, to possibly considering being Repub, to thinking anarchy is the only answer, to screaming so loud people in the building thought I was being attacked. I said I am…by the fricking media and two totally retarded candidates.
Tech note:
I’ve occasionally run into the message from WordPress, “You’re posting messages too quickly. Slow down,” even when I haven’t posted for some time (even an hour or more). Very puzzling. BUT — I think I’ve found the problem.
I use Firefox with the CoComment add-in (saves records of all comments entries). It does its own log-in and read before my comment goes through, and I think WordPress sees all CoComment users as one. When I disable or kill the CoComment function on a blocked entry, it goes through immediately.

WASHINGTON — The idea of charging large financial firms fees to set up an industry-funded rescue insurance fund was gaining momentum as key House and Senate negotiators continued to meet Saturday evening to iron out the final details of a $700 billion rescue package for Wall Street.
Lawmakers and staff reconvened their meeting around 7:30 p.m. EDT in the offices of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.), hopeful they could broker a deal on the much anticipated but exceedingly difficult-to-negotiate legislation that would have the federal government buy up billions of dollars of soured assets.
The mood was said to be “optimistic” entering the evening talks, according to a Senate aide familiar with the talks, after policymakers — including Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson — made progress during an afternoon negotiating session. Staff predicted a long night of negotiations, however, an observation backed up by the delivery of food from sandwich shop Cosi to Ms. Pelosi’s office just before 8 p.m. EDT.
Congressional negotiators have been consulting with outside experts including billionaire investor Warren Buffett amid a focus on market reaction to the plan.
“We’ve had Warren Buffett on the phone tonight, other experts that we’ve been consulting,” Sen. Kent Conrad (D., N.D.) told reporters as he walked through the U.S. Capitol. He declined to identify other people with whom lawmakers have consulted.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.), in an appearance on the Senate floor earlier Saturday, said there are only a “handful of issues still lingering” for lawmakers to finalize. He said his goal was for the Congress and the Bush administration to at the very least release an outline of the bailout plan before Asian markets open Monday evening.
The Senate aide said a number of specific ideas appeared to be gaining traction Saturday evening, most notably the concept of creating a “financial stability” fund financed by Wall Street and styled in the mold of the deposit insurance program run by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Lawmakers had considered levying a tax on some securities transactions to help offset the cost of the $700 billion rescue plan, but the idea of assessing fees on a wide swath of financial firms to help pay for current and future government bailouts had its proponents.
The aide said specific language was still being worked out, but that negotiators were deliberating whether to assess the fees on all types of financial firms — including possibly hedge funds and other nontraditional institutions — and whether to put the fund in place now or in the future depending on the eventual cost to taxpayers from the current rescue plan. The fees and the fund would likely only apply to larger firms over a certain asset size.
A draft of the financial stability fund language suggest it would apply to financial firms, “the failure of which would result in direct pecuniary losses to the Federal Government, due to reliance upon Federal loans, advances, or other provisions of financial instruments or securities.”
Also gaining steam was a proposal to eliminate the tax deductions for companies on executive compensation for top officers that is above $400,000. Eliminating so-called “golden parachutes” and excessive executive pay-outs for firms that sell toxic assets to the government has been a key issue for lawmakers on both sides of the aisle in their deliberations with the Treasury Department.
Lawmakers were also said to be making headway on their insistence that the government receive mandatory warrants in firms that sell directly or auction their bad assets to the government.
“We’re just shopping language right now and it’s going back to have some lawyers look at the latest offer,” said Mr. Conrad (D., N.D.), the chair of the Senate Budget Committee, as he was heading back into the evening session.
One issue still to be resolved was how the $700 billion authority to Treasury to buy up toxic assets will be meted out.
Lawmakers want Treasury to receive the authority in tranches, receiving $250 billion immediately and another $100 billion if needed as certified by the president. The remaining $350 billion would be subject to a Congressional vote, giving lawmakers the opportunity to vote to rescind the funds.
But a Senate aide familiar with the discussions said Treasury is pushing for a larger initial authority, likely around $500 billion.
Lawmakers appeared to have the advantage on the issue ahead of the evening talks, the Senate aide said, though no part of the deal had been completely finalized.
Congressional and Treasury staff members have been trying to resolve the various issues related to the Wall Street bailout plan all week, and staff discussions lasted all day Friday and extended into the wee hours of Saturday morning to no avail.
Rep. Roy Blunt (R., Mo.), one of the negotiators, said that progress was being made but he wouldn’t discuss specifics.
The bailout negotiations took a step forward Friday, when Senate Democrats agreed to include an insurance-based scheme as an option as part of the Wall Street bailout package in a bid to win support of House Republicans, who have been the main obstacle to reaching an agreement.
Sen. Charles Schumer (D., N.Y.) said that while Democrats would allow the insurance idea to be included, he didn’t think that any financial firms would choose to take part in such a scheme. “I offered on behalf of Sens. (Christopher) Dodd and Reid that we would put their proposal in as an option,” said Mr. Schumer. “No one would have to use it, but it would be there as an option.”
According to lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, the plan proposed by Mr. Paulson, which would see the federal government buy up to $700 billion in toxic mortgage-linked assets, will form the core of any solution.
Sen. Judd Gregg (R., N.H.), one of the lawmakers taking part in the talks to thrash out an agreement, said Saturday morning that the negotiators would stay in the meeting until an agreement is reached. “The basic understanding is once we get into that room we are going to stay there until we have an agreement,” he said.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) said he hoped that if a deal could be reached Sunday, then lawmakers could vote on it Monday.
Initially there were to be four lawmakers — one representing each party in both houses of Congress at the talks. They were Messrs. Gregg and Dodd in the Senate and Reps. Barney Frank (D., Mass.) and Blunt in the House. Mr. Frank is the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, Mr. Blunt is the Minority Whip, while Mr. Dodd is the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee hearing, and Mr. Gregg is the ranking member on the Senate budget panel.
But they were joined by several other senior Democrats, and there are as of late Saturday nine Democrats in the room compared with just the two Congressional Republicans, and Paulson.
After an apparent agreement was announced by lawmakers Thursday, House Republicans threw a wrench into the process by saying they would not support the deal, proposing instead their own alternative plan.
That plan would be based around the idea of an industry-funded insurance pool to provide certainty to the markets, rather than a taxpayer-funded scheme.
Mr. Conrad, the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, said the insurance proposal had come up earlier in the negotiations, but that Treasury and the Federal Reserve rejected it.
Mr. Schumer said it could end up bankrupting firms, given the premiums would be so high.
House Republicans appeared to be conceding the point that the insurance scheme wouldn’t replace the asset purchase plan as they had previously insisted.
The Republicans’ priority is “making sure there is an insurance program in there in the tool kit of the secretary,” said Rep. Adam Putnam of Florida, the chairman of the Republican House Conference.

I doubt it. I know a lot of Mexican Americans and they are more American then mexican. A kid I know is active in creating a Latino group on his campus. He is demanding that all people be allowed to join. Is silencing the others who want to keep it Latino only. The next generation of Mexican Americans leader are really more into a “big tent” America rather than a divisive point of view.

Murphy, and PUMA, On Thursday at Harvard, Harvard’s First Woman President, Drew Gilpin Faust, convened a panel discussion: Understanding Crisis in the Financial Markets.
It is at http://www.economics.harvard.edu
the link to the video is on the left. It requires Real Player to view, which is easily downloaded for free if you do not have it installed already. It is around 2 hours. I find myself watching it over and over, and repeating sections over. This is incredibly enlightening discussion in regards to the situation we are experiencing. It is a must see for PUMA who want to understand. You will agree with a lot of what they are saying. We have been watching it unfold anyway.
Our Country, God Bless America.

Murphy, when I see your name, I always hear it too, pronounced as an Irish Gaelic speaker would say it. Such a lovely name. If BO is elected, i think I will move to Ireland or Northern Scotland so I can brush up on my Irish and Scottish Gaelic. Actually, I might retreat back to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, where there is a very rich and wonderful Scottish gaelic culture.
Actually, if BO is elected, I will buy a Guy Fawkes mask like the Scientology protestors in Boston wear (so they will not be sued by Scientology) and take to the streets. I consider myself the loyal opposition and it is my patriotic duty to undo this damage that has been done, and to prevent the worst possible thing from happening. That is, a Barack Obama administration, with the unlimited powers of the Patriot act and FISA. I am not afraid. I really am not. I am mad, and I am a proud American and I will stand and if I am knocked down I will get back up.
The Repubs in the House were dogging Acorn in relation to the “Bail Out”. That was refreshing to hear.

okay off topic, but really.
I am so sick of hearing that every great man or woman in history was a community organizer! What ACORN does has absolutely nothing to do with a great spiritual leader as in Ghandi, Jesus Christ. Those men were selfless and served a cause greater than themselves. BHO serves BHO.
332 jenniforhillary
Oh I am loving it.
I think I would say. Well if Jesus wants to be president I have no problem.”
Eewww. I just was reminded of something. Didn’t the book of revelations say “Many will come to you and I am he,but they are not.” ?
I fully agree with you on not having a home in the repub party. But if we really want to a) purge the obama thugs from our party and make sure the dem leaders represent the base properly and b) bring on primary reform within the dem party, then there is exactly one way to achieve this: Obama’s defeat. If Obama wins we can forget about the dem party reform and will have to find a way to have an independent party. That may be the way to go, but frankly it takes decades to establish a third party as a viable party, if at all it can be done. We may never have a home or a voice in the electoral process for years to come if Obama thugs are not summarily defeated in this election. So I for one will vote McCain just to achieve dem party reform and purge the obama thugs from the party as opposed to sending ourselves to political oblivion. Yes this is painful in the short term, particularly for longstanding dems. But hey, in the long run we can rebuild this party with the base. Otherwise the large silent majority of the dem party base will be in political wilderness for decades to come. Pls think about that.
“Many will come to you and say* I am he”
Unbelievable. With the world waiting for any news on Congress’ progress on a rescue plan, Nancy Pelosi stepped before the cameras of every news organization in perhaps the world and accused the House GOP of being “unpatriotic”, while at the same time heaping praise on Dodd and Frank for their efforts.
http://www.necn.com/Boston/Politics/Pelosi-matter-of-making-a-decision/1222556313.html
Does she actually WANT to get a deal done, or is she doing her best to sabotage any chance of progress?
I suppose it is unpatriotic to oppose the looting of a rescue plan by sneaking in provisions to enrich ACORN under the radar counting on the conditions of a disaster to conceal the scam.
As for just who is not acting in good faith here, check out this comment:
“Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.) on Friday suggested Democratic leaders did not solicit enough input from House Republicans on the financial rescue package.”
Kanjorski is chairman of the House Financial Services subcommittee on Capital Markets, and is no lightweight in Congress.
http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/democrat-house-gop-not-consulted-enough-on-bailout-2008-09-26.html
And if that is not enough to make you stop and think, how about this:
“House and Senate GOP aides warned Saturday that Democrats threatened to blow up talks on a financial market rescue plan by sending in too many negotiators, particularly those with a political bent.
Although Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson asked each leader of the House and Senate to send only one envoy to the negotiating table, both House and Senate Democrats appear to be disregarding that.
At the beginning of what was billed as a crucial negotiating session Saturday afternoon, Democrats sent in five Senators and three House Members, compared with one representative each from the House and Senate Republicans. Paulson and a few other Treasury officials were also present.”
http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=NmVjZjlkZGFjMDFhOTE4MWQ4MDNjYWMxZGE2ODFmNGU=
Has it ever occurred to Pelosi that she is there to represent the people of the United States? Can she just once put aside partisan mudslinging to address a dire need for America? If Pelosi and Obama cared about “what the rest of the world thinks”, you would figure that they would display a bit more mental acuity and patriotism in handling an issue like this. The rest of the world has to believe that we are incapable of tying our own shoes at this point.

I often think of what the world could be, and then I compare it to reality, and then the tears come. Animals have had a really rough year this year. I have decided that if I were granted three wishes they would be as follows: children/animals would never suffer EVER, and Hillary would kick BO’s ass straight back to Kenya and take over the Democratic party NOW with this succinct statement “I decided you can’t keep a strong woman down–especially an empty shirt like you–so I decided to come back, kick ass, and be the next President of the USA.” I don’t think i’m asking for too much, you know…
(oh, and if the genie decided I could have one more wish I would lump the DNC leadership into one of those little bitty clown cars and let them drive all the way back to kenya with the nobama’s in tow–one way, no returns)

Gov. Blunt Statement on Obama Campaign’s Abusive Use of Missouri Law Enforcement
JEFFERSON CITY – Gov. Matt Blunt today issued the following statement on news reports that have exposed plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.
“St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch, St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, and Obama and the leader of his Missouri campaign Senator Claire McCaskill have attached the stench of police state tactics to the Obama-Biden campaign.
“What Senator Obama and his helpers are doing is scandalous beyond words, the party that claims to be the party of Thomas Jefferson is abusing the justice system and offices of public trust to silence political criticism with threats of prosecution and criminal punishment.
“This abuse of the law for intimidation insults the most sacred principles and ideals of Jefferson. I can think of nothing more offensive to Jefferson’s thinking than using the power of the state to deprive Americans of their civil rights. The only conceivable purpose of Messrs. McCulloch, Obama and the others is to frighten people away from expressing themselves, to chill free and open debate, to suppress support and donations to conservative organizations targeted by this anti-civil rights, to strangle criticism of Mr. Obama, to suppress ads about his support of higher taxes, and to choke out criticism on television, radio, the Internet, blogs, e-mail and daily conversation about the election.
“Barack Obama needs to grow up. Leftist blogs and others in the press constantly say false things about me and my family. Usually, we ignore false and scurrilous accusations because the purveyors have no credibility. When necessary, we refute them. Enlisting Missouri law enforcement to intimidate people and kill free debate is reminiscent of the Sedition Acts – not a free society.”

mountainsong #330 — have you read “Drop City” by T. Coraghessen Boyle?
It is a jaw-droppingly detailed depiction of what it means to be an Alasakan. From the points of view of both the back-to-pioneer types like Palin as well as the back to Utopia types like the 60′s radicals who flocked there in small numbers back then.
I HIGHLY recommend it. It is my favorite TC Boyle book by far.
Alaska is an awe-inspiring place — very Jacques Cousteau-ey.
I was surfing the web tonight and found this link. It’s a response to Jack Cafferty and there’s a video that’s just great about Obama. It’s one of the best I’ve seen.

aaaww, Daaarrrraaaaghhhh….!
yes yes yes Villaraigosa for Governor.
Murphy, Alaska is da bomb! I was planning to live there and work as a geologist, but took a side trip for my husbands career in Mississippi. While we were sweltering for 3 years in the deep south, we dreamed of freezing in Alaska. Sarah Palin reminds me of those days. I have cousins all over up there, and sisters there too. It is an amazing place.

PUMAs, These are the darkening days of Autumn and spirits get dampened. And O isn’t helping by being his arrogant self. But just think, we can each lick our chops and know that each of us has a decision to make come November (and it won’t be O). So whatever that decision is, revel in it. Each of us is not being brain-washed by the DONC, instead we are free at last to think outside the box.

Newsmax email I just received:
Dear Newsmax Reader:
Please find below a special message from our sponsor, Our Country Deserves Better PAC. They have some important information to share with you. Thank you.
Newsmax.com
Between his conduct during last night’s debate and his AWOL status during the financial industry crisis this week, it is clear that Barack Obama must be defeated in this presidential election.
We need your help to defeat the Obama/Biden ticket. We’re the Our Country Deserves Better committee and we were formed specifically to take on Obama’s campaign in ways the McCain/Palin campaign is not able to. We’re delivering the tough hits that need to be dealt against the inexperienced, far-left, ignorant and arrogant Barack Obama.
With only 37 days until the election we need your help right now to fund our television ad campaigns against Obama in key swing states – and to fund our upcoming “Stop Obama” nationa tour (with 35 rallies in important competitive states). The law allows donations up to $5,000 per individual. Whether you can afford only $5 or $50 or $500 or the full $5,000 we urgently need your support right now – DONATE ONLINE HERE.
Glad to know,go……

Spiders, eh? I am fascinated by them, but there are some VERY large ones in certain parts of the world.
In the Army, I was on a small patrol in what you would call triple canopy flora – at high noon you could not see a damn thing it was so dark.
Walking ever so quietly and slowly, I took a step and something stopped the forward progress of my head. I stopped and discovered that I had walked into a large web. It was built between two trees about 10 feet apart.
While trying to slowly back away from the sticky trap, I felt the web on my face vibrate a little. Ding, ding, ding….ding ding…ding ding ding. There was something fairly big moving down the web, and it seemed to be picking up its pace.
Still could not see whatever it was, and by that time I had reached a decision that I really did not want to congratulate the creator of this silk masterpiece on its fine work.
I resisted the urge to shoot at the invisible assassin, and set a new world’s record for the 400 meter dash, looking back behind me every few steps to make sure I didn’t have a hitchhiker on board.
I can take most spiders, but I draw the line at one you can walk on a leash.
What did Hillerman write?
“Yikes” is what BO said when MO told him what’s gonna happen when he loses the election.
GO – if you plan on moving to Arizona – you have to read Hillerman – great stories with the Native Americans – Navajo –
#410 Murphy
Duh!
Hi BillieJo, goanderson!
grizzly #444, right — thanks. I love that about Dante. murder is, in fact, a less subtly evil act than fraud or lying. that’s why the frauds and liars go DEEPER into hell.
to murder is BAD –but there is no wriggling out of murder. if you do it you have unequivocally named yourself among the damned.
although this only works in theory, or in a cosmology that premises an afterlife. In FACT I’d MUCH rather face a person who would LIE about my daughter than someone who would KILL her.

Murphy is on a “yikes” kick tonight!
To stay together as Pumas, remember we dont’ have to decide the whole future at once. Each of us doesn’t even have to decide yet how to vote in November.
I’m going to watch the polls and see if my state looks close. If it’s an easy win for either candidate, then I’ll probably vote for the Green party, those two Black ladies. That will show that liberals reject Obama too.
Let’s just stay pumas and pounce on whatever turns up….

You MUST see this now.
Obama was trying to make Missouri into a police state. The prosecutors were going to arrest anyone who runs negative ads against Obama or anyone who says anything against him. He calls them lies, but we know they’re the truth. Anyway, the Governor laid into Obama and the Prosecutors. Love that Governor! Go to the link. Thanks itb2.

Did anyone check out Cannonfire today?
Hilarious post about Jo’s interpretation of the debate through a morphine induced haze.
At the very end, McCain struck a poetic note when he announced “We are all squirrels now!” as he and Obama went scampering off across a moonlit lawn, lost in a haze of early morning dew. Based on that gesture alone, I’m going to have to declare McCain the winner.
Cannonfire rocks!

But that’s just my quickie reaction to the blip I saw on TV…

yes it’s a nun’s “habit” which goes back to the Latin and French for how we clothe ourselves.

I just sent out that video and statement by Gov. Blunt to all of the media e-mails addresses we had in the Action Ctr.. Because the Governor recognized that Obama was pulling his intimidation routine, and he made a very forceful statement about it that maybe the MSM might suddenly wake up to what we have been trying to tell them for months.

I’ll bet Karen Valentine’s voice (Room 222) had the same effect on you. She and Sarah sound very similar.
Now, I’ve seen Sarah Palin perform well under pressure before. That convention speech for instance was a classic moment of confidence and know how. She also handled herself in front of Charles Gibson much more so that with that pathetic excuse for a journalist named Couric.
Something must have happened to Sarah during that time outside just before the interview and was trying to cover it up. Something like that is probably what caused her to be a little off key. She simply has already proven herself capable under pressure. She’ll be back to being herself come the debate, I’m sure.

Big bugs don’t scare me as much because I can see them. The smaller they are, the more I imagine they are everywhere inside my clothes, sheets, shoes… They could be there and I wouldn’t see them. Same with ants. I am not afraid of them, just get the creeps since I was a kid, washing my bike on the hot driveway and must have been standing on an anthill. Didn’t realize it since I was all wet from the hose…then looked down and I was covered head to toe. Phobia since then.

NO –John Siegel did NOT say much about caucus fraud in Texas and other states during the primaries. Not because he does not know, but because we were talking about the debate.

Oh but speaking of singing in spanish, one night on the news I saw a clip that some Country Western singer wrote a song for McCain’s campaign, & it didn’t sound half-bad, and some of the lyrics were in Spanish & the Hispanic voters were eating it up.
You know I feel badly for the Hispanic voters in America today. Many are hard-working citizens & Democrats and such, and I still feel they have no idea who they should vote for, it’s really sad.
#587 greenfun
Good night Greenfunny, take care of those little boys.
Talk to ya soon.
Why is Couric so incompetent? Well, at the end of her “gothcha” NOT interview with Ms. Palin she put this tag on:
Katie Couric: “The issue of meeting with Iranian officials without preconditions and Henry Kissinger’s position on that came up during my recent interview with Governor Sarah Palin. Now, after than interview I called Secretary Kissinger to clarify his position – he said he does support face-to-face talks with high-level officials in Iran without preconditions.”
She’s a liar. She never talked with Kissinger. At least not directly. Mr. Kissinger DOES NOT believe in meeting with the leader of Iran without preconditions. Read on:
Mr. Kissinger’s reponse on FOX tells his view precisely when John McCain corrected Obama during their debate on that same issue of whether meetings with Iran’s leader should take place without preconditions. Henry Kissinger believes Barack Obama misstated his views on diplomacy with US adversaries and is not happy about being mischaracterized.
Mr. Kissinger says: “Senator McCain is right. I would not recommend the next President of the United States engage in talks with Iran at the Presidential level. My views on this issue are entirely compatible with the views of my friend Senator John McCain. We do not agree on everything, but we do agree that any negotiations with Iran must be geared to reality.”
Ms. Palin did not misspeak. The gaffe was on the other foot. Ms. Couric owes Sarah an apology. And then she needs to go back to the Today show for work more suited her talents. She certainly is no journalist I can take seriously.

I was just looking to see if Denver Post ever ran a story from their interview w/us in Denver (they didn’t). But ran across Wickipedia’s listing about PUMA, here’s what it says at the very end:
“DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee co-chairman James Roosevelt disputes the claim that the Michigan–Florida delegate decision was in any way pre-ordained to favor Obama. He argues that Party rules and regulations were “followed and interpreted fairly”. He continues that there were allegations of impropriety in the Texas caucuses, but only one complaint was filed with a delegate.[8].”

hills — I WANT to like Michelle, I really do. I think she’s a wonderfully loving mother and a nice wife. I think she faces the sexist onslaught just like we all do only moreso because she’s black and unrepentantly proud of that — which I like about her.
BUT, she’s just like Sarah Palin to me — terribly wrong about basically EVERYTHING, but totally undeserving of the HATE that’s been directed at her.
The things I like best about Obama are:
1. He loves his girls more than anything in the world
2. He loves his wife
3. He looks to his wife for guidance and insight and isnt afraid to admit it
I like Obama’s family life. I admire Michelle even though I think she’s wrong about basically everything. and I’ll defend her against sexist/racist attacks just like Sarah Palin.

Good night Gooooooooo, come back to the blog again, it was great having you here. I hope you find time to go to NV with us.
U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein
Floor Statement on the Economic
Rescue Proposal
September 26, 2008
“Mr. President, to date I have received from Californians more than 50,000 calls and letters, the great bulk of them in opposition to any form of meeting this crisis with financial help from the Federal Government. I wanted to come to the floor to very simply state how I see this and some of the principles that I hope will be forthcoming in this draft. Before I do so, I wish to pay particular commendation to Senator Dodd, Senator Schumer, Senator Bennett, and others who have been working so hard on this issue. I have tried to keep in touch — I am not a negotiator; I am not on the committee — but California is the biggest State, the largest economic engine, and people are really concerned.
We face the most significant economic crisis in 75 years right now. Swift and comprehensive action is crucial to the overall health of our economy. None of us wants to be in this position, and there are no good options here. Nobody likes the idea of spending massive sums of Government money to rescue major corporations from their bad financial decisions. But no one also should be fooled into thinking this problem only belongs to the banks and that it is a good idea to let them fail. The pain felt by Wall Street one day is felt there, and then 2,3,4 weeks down the pike, it is felt on Main Street.
The turbulence in our financial sector has already resulted in thousands of layoffs in the banking and finance sectors, and that number will skyrocket if there is a full collapse. The shock waves of failure will extend far beyond the banking and finance sectors. A shrinking pool of credit would affect the home loans, credit card limits, auto loans, and insurance policies of average Americans. I am receiving calls from people who tell me they want to buy a house, but they can’t get the credit or the mortgage to do so. Why? Because that market of credit is drying up more rapidly one day after the other. It would have a major impact on State and local governments which would lose tens of millions of dollars, if not hundreds of millions of dollars.
Hurricane Ike shut down refineries on the gulf coast 2 weeks ago, and now, today, people are waiting hours in lines for gasoline in the South. Similarly, the collapse of the financial sector would have severe consequences for Americans all across the economic spectrum: for the person who owns the grocery store, the laundry, the bank, the insurance company. Then, if the worst happens, layoffs. And even more than that, somebody shows up for work and finds their business has closed because the owner of that business can’t get credit to buy the goods he hopes to sell that week or that month. Wages and employment rates have already fallen even as the cost of basic necessities has skyrocketed. Our Nation is facing the highest unemployment rate in 5 years, at 6.1 percent. Over 605,000 jobs have been lost nationwide this year. My own State of California, a state of 38 million people, has the third highest unemployment rate in the Nation at 7.7 percent. That is 1.4 million people out of work today. One and a half million people — that is bigger than some States. We have 1.5 million people out of work, and one-half million have had their unemployment insurance expire and have nothing today.
Congress is faced with a situation where we have to act and we have to do two things. We have to provide some reform in the system of regulation and oversight that is supposed to protect our economy. We also have to find a permanent and effective solution to keep liquidity and credit functioning so that markets can recover and make profit. The situation, I believe, is grave, and timely, prudent action is needed.
Just last night, the sixth largest bank in America — Washington Mutual– was seized by government regulators and most of its assets will be sold to JPMorgan Chase. This follows on the heels of bankruptcies and takeovers of Bear Stearns, Lehman Brothers, AIG, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac. If nothing is done, the crisis will continue to spread and one by one the dominos will fall.
Now, this isn’t just about Wall Street. Because we are this credit society, the financial troubles facing major economic institutions will ricochet throughout this Nation and affect everyone. So I believe the need for action is clear. But that doesn’t mean Congress should simply be a rubberstamp for an unprecedented and unbridled program.
My constituents by the thousands have made their views clear. I believe they are responding to the original 3-page proposal by the Secretary of the Treasury. It is clear by now that that 3-page proposal is a nonstarter. It is dead on arrival and that is good. Secretary Paulson’s proposal asked Congress to write a $700 billion check to an economic czar who would have been empowered to spend it without any administrative oversight, legal requirements, or legislative review. Decisions made by the Treasury Secretary would be nonreviewable by any court or agency, and the fate of our entire economy would be committed to the sole discretion of one man alone — the man we know today, and the man whom we don’t know after January.
Additionally, the lack of governance or oversight in this plan was matched by the lack of a requirement for regular reports to Congress. This proposal stipulated that the economic czar, newly created, would report to Congress after the first three months with reports once every 6 months after that. This was untenable. Six months is an eternity when you are spending billions a week. The Treasury Secretary asked Congress to approve this massive program without delay or interference. It is hard to think of any other time in our history when Congress has been asked for so much money and so much power to be concentrated in the hands of one person. It is a nonstarter.
Yesterday, shortly before we met for the Democratic Policy Committee lunch, we were told there had been a bipartisan agreement on principles of a possible solution, and many of us rejoiced. We know that our Members, both Republican and Democrat, have been working hard to try to produce something that was positive. Then, all of a sudden, it changed. One Presidential candidate parachuted into town which proved to be enormously destructive to the process. Now, negotiations are back on the table, and as I say, we have just received a draft bill of certain principles.
I would like to outline quickly those principles that I think are important. First is a phase-in. No one wants to put $700 billion immediately at the discretion of one person or even a group of a very few people, no matter how bright, how skilled, how informed they might be on banking or finance principles. The funding should come in phases and Congress should have the opportunity to make its voice heard if the program isn’t working or needs to be adjusted.
The second point: Oversight, accountability, and governance. The Treasury Secretary should not and must not have unbridled authority to determine winners and losers, essentially choosing which struggling financial institution will survive and which will not. The original plan placed all authority in the hands of this one man, and this is why I say it was DOA — dead on arrival — at the Congress. We must assure that controls are in place to watch taxpayer dollars and make sure they are well-spent fixing the problem, and that oversight by a governance committee and the Banking Committees are strong, and that they give the best opportunity for the American people to recover their investment and, yes, even eventually make a profit from that investment. That can be done and it has been done in the past.
I believe that frequent reporting to Congress is critical. Transparency, sunlight on this, is critical. So Congress should receive regular, timely briefings, perhaps weekly for the first quarter, on a program of this magnitude. A proposal should mandate frequent reporting and the public should be ensured of transparency to the maximum extent possible.
I also believe that within the first quarter — and this, to me, is key — a comprehensive legislative proposal for reform must be put forward. We must reform those speculative practices that impact price function of markets. We must deal with the unregulated practices that have furthered this crisis. Look. I represent a State that was cost $40 billion in the Enron episode during 1999 and 2000 by speculation, by manipulation, and by fraud. There still is inadequate regulation of energy commodities sold on the futures market. And that is just one point in all of this. We must prevent these things from happening. The only way to do it is to improve the transparency of all markets. No hidden deals. Swaps, in my view, should be ended. The London loophole should be ended.
We have to outline rules for increasing regulation of the mortgage-backed securities market, along with comprehensive oversight of the mortgage industry and lending practices for both prime and subprime lending.
Senator Martinez of Florida and I had a part in the earlier housing bill, which included our legislation entitled the SAFE Mortgage Licensing Act. We found that the market was rife with fraud. We found there was one company that hired hairdressers and others who sold mortgages in their spare time. We found there were unscrupulous mortgage brokers out there unlicensed, preying upon people, walking off with tens of thousands of dollars of cash. This has to end. It has to be controlled. It has to be regulated.
So I believe the crisis of 2008 stems from the failure of Federal regulators to rein in this Wild West mentality of those Wall Street executives who led those firms and who thought that nothing was out of bounds. Every quick scheme was worth the time, and worth a try. Congress cannot ignore this as the root cause of the crisis. It was inherent in the subprime marketplace, and it has now spread to the prime mortgage marketplace.
It is also critical that accurate assessments of the value of these illiquid mortgage-related assets be performed to limit the taxpayers’ exposure to risk and structure purchases to ensure the greatest possible return on investment.
Taxpayer money must be shielded at all costs from risk to the greatest extent possible.
Reciprocity is not a bad concept if you can carry it out. The Government must not simply act as a repository for risky investments that have gone bad. An economic rescue effort that serves taxpayers well must allow them to benefit from the potential profits of rescued entities. So a model — and it may well be in these new principles — must be developed to ensure the taxpayers are not only the first paid back but have an opportunity to share in future profits through warrants and/or stocks.
As to executive compensation limits, simply put, Californians are frosted by the absence of controls on executive compensation. Virtually all of the 50,000 phone calls and letters mentioned this one way or another. There must be limits. I am told that the reason the Treasury Secretary does not want limits on executive compensation is because he believes that an executive then will not bring his company in to partake in any program that is set up. Here is my response to that: We can put that executive on his boat, take that boat out in the ocean, and set it on fire. If that is how he feels, that is what should happen, or his company doesn’t come in. But to say that the Federal Government is going to be responsible for tens of millions of dollars of executive salaries, golden parachutes, whether they are a matter of contract right or not, is not acceptable to the average person whose taxpayer dollars are used in this bailout. That is just fact.
The one proposal that was made by one of the Presidential candidates that I agree with is that there should be a limit of $400,000 on executive compensation. If they don’t like it, too bad, don’t participate in the program. As I have talked with people on Wall Street and otherwise, they don’t believe it is true that an executive, if his pay is tailored down, will not bring a company in that needs help. I hope that is true. I believe there should be precise limits set on executive pay.
Finally, as to tangible benefits for Main Street in the form of mortgage relief, there have been more than 500,000 foreclosures in my home State of California so far this year. In the second quarter of this year, foreclosures were up 300 percent over the second quarter of 2007. More than 800,000 are predicted before this year is over.
I have a city in California where one out of every 25 homes is in foreclosure. This is new housing in subdivisions. As you look at it, you will see garage doors kicked in. You will see houses vandalized. You will see the grass and grounds dry. You will see the street sprinkled with “For Sale” signs, and nobody buys because the market has become so depressed.
This crisis has roots in the subprime housing boom that went bust, and it would be unconscionable for us to simply bailout Wall Street while leaving these homeowners to fend for themselves.
Everything I have been told, and I have talked to people in this business, here is what they tell me: It is more cost-effective to renegotiate a subprime loan and keep a family in a house than it is to foreclose and run the risks of what happens to that home on a depressed market as credit is drying up, as vandals loot it, as landscaping dries up, as more homes in the area become foreclosed upon; the way to go is to renegotiate these mortgages with the exiting homeowner wherever possible. I feel very strongly that should be the case.
I don’t know what I or any of us will do if we authorize this kind of expenditure and we find down the pike in my State that the rest of the year, 800,000 to 1 million Americans are being thrown out of their homes despite this form of rescue effort. Think of what it means, Mr. President, in your State. You vote for this, any other Senator votes for it, and these foreclosures continue to take place and individual families continue to be thrown out of their homes. It is not a tenable situation.
I hope, if anybody is listening at all, that in the negotiating team, they will make a real effort to mandate in some way that subprime foreclosures be renegotiated, that families, wherever possible, who have an ability to pay, have that ability to pay met with a renegotiated loan. I have done this now in cases with families who were taken advantage of. We called the CEO of the bank, and the bank has seen that the loan was renegotiated, in one case in Los Angeles down to 2 percent. That is better than foreclosing and running the uncertainty of the sale of the asset in a very depressed housing market.
These are my thoughts. Again, it is easy to come to the floor and give your thoughts. It is much more difficult to sit at that negotiating table.
I once again thank those Senators on both sides of the aisle who really understand the nature of this crisis — that it isn’t only Wall Street, that it does involve Main Street, and if there is a serious crash, it will hurt tens of millions of Americans, many of them in irreparable ways. So we must do what we must do, and we must do it prudently and carefully.
I yield the floor. I suggest the absence of quorum.”
Sincerely yours,
Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator

Yes, it really is this bad
Another example of humor that is deadly accurate.
I worked on Wall Street for a few years, elbow to elbow with “top” investment bankers.
It was one big casino with the saps in pensions funds and savings and loans (and us) being used to finance the game and cover the losses.
Amazingly, this was recorded in 2007.

HHHHHHEEEYYY!!!!
I didn’t received antything and I also send the e-mails to her, Boxer and Napolitano.
go,
I know what you mean. I was watching Lou Dobbs this afternoon & struck by his assessment of both Presidential candidates as lacking in basic understanding of the economy and lacking a concrete plan to fix it.
He was highly critical of the fact neither candidate has been able to seize upon a problem and show insight about it and add a new concept to their platform(s). Sigh…
Anyway it’s been great chatting tonight & I need to log off, everybody have a great rest of the weekend!
Good Night all. Be good

Last Time I checked libal and slander laws did not apply for political persons because it comes with the territory, but he’s probablly will try to prosecute under false advertising laws…….Gee he should watch out he could end up in MO prison himself for all his lies.
this email was very interesting…a letter from the Gov. of MO.
Wake Up PUMAS! Seems letters and phone calls are reaching senators and congressmen!
647 goandersen…..I was totally disgusted to read the letter from Feinstein….of course I emailed her!
Need to keep this video running….it is priceless! Who’s really guilty of the Fannie Mae/Freddic Mac problems. Democrats.
I no longer consider myself a democratic. I don’t know who these people are representing us. How downright dreadful this video is. I do not want to be part of such a corrupt party.

The night is done but I just have to get in a few comments because of the topic on top.
Being a rebel is hard.
Many have mentioned the Mexicans in California. I see it in NJ. Those from India, the first generation is still based in their culture, the second generation is trying to instill the old homeland culture in their kids as they assimilate into the American culture, the third generation kids are just plain American, no matter what their parents and grandparents tried to instill.
So many other cultures the divide shortens. The first generation tries their best to instill the homeland, while the kids retain the food and skip right down to being American in every way.
Labor Day weekend I was visiting my mother in Ohio and guess what she did? She is for Obama, called me racist after I told her my reasons for not being for Obama, then spent the next three days (I had not seen her for three years) getting in every little dig she could. But she did make the mistake of telling me a few facts about my uncle and his associates. So far I have found my uncle mentioned in three books, two about Al Capone, and one about the scoundrels who created the Chicago Machine.
I doubt my uncle ever meant it to go into the next century, but it doesn’t matter what he might have thought. What matters is that it did, it is encoded, it has become a way of life and it needs to be broken.
Forget Donna Brazil’s kind of broken DNC. That machine needs to be broken and the politics of the people has to be from the people and in the interest of the people whom it serves. Not the bought off people.
If ACORN gets any money or even a mention in the bailout then we know the machine is still working and we will just have to work harder.
.
As I have noted several times here, I am an Independent, who supported Hillary. I also suffer from being a radical. I’m one generation removed from one of the people who helped build the Chicago Machine by playing politics. Career moves turned into life changes for everyone who lived in Chicago.
My Great Uncle started out as an Independent when he first ran for judge
The stories passed down during my childhood and adult years did not cover the things I have learned in the past few years as my uncle and mother suddenly decided that maybe we might need to know something about our family genealogy. Previously I had been told that they didn’t know why anyone cared and it was no big deal…etc Then three years ago I was told that I might find out things that I didn’t want to know. I dropped it because other things like kids and career overwhelmed my time and resources.
Now I feel I am coming full circle. Turns out that my grandmother’s brother, the judge, paid for the college education of the guy who helped create the Daley machine. Jake/Jacob Arvey. In fact that same uncle was a part of the process that helped Al Capone be successful in Chicago by granting bail to every guy related to Capone when they walked into his courtroom.
These events that happened in the early days of the previous century have paved the way for Obama to be where he is today.
I really do not want to see Obama move one step further in the process. He’s has gone too far as it is.
There is no change with Obama. It is a system that was set up in the early 1900′s and has worked and been tweaked for nearly 100 years. I’ve been reading the old articles as I did some family research. This pathway for a candidate to mow down the opposition, with game playing capabilities, had been set in place long ago.
Apparently, my great grandmother was a game player with killer skills that took down my grandfather, also a lawyer. My father and his brother hated her for what she did to their father. When I recall that conversation with my uncle, three years ago about his feelings about his grandmother and how she in his words “wore down my father to a nub”, I realize that it contains the elements of anger I feel with Obama and his game playing with Hillary, the media, McCain and Palin.
The game plan is a scatter shot approach, and where ever it hits, you go for the kill. You reel in your comrades and call in your favors to get back up. Then you pick up and take off with the winning points of the argument as if they are your own.
In the debates Obama even tried to take points from McCain within the 90 minute time frame. Obama is just too good at this game. Sadly, it is a game for him. He doesn’t want to be President. That would mean work. He wants to be King of the World. I’m sure that would be his next goal if he is elected President. Sadly for us, the American public, the game is it with Obama. He has no plan other than winning the game. If you decimate the opposition, game over. Now you need a new game, or target.
What kills me is that I can now see it almost from the beginning to the end, and the fact that it has been so successful is terrible news for our country and the people who live here.
Obama sucked up every little trick, power play, deceptive move, and hard line tactic, along with the use of bought off judges through pressure and money. There is not one tactic in the Chicago Machine that he has not brought into play on the national field.
The one that goads me most, is probably the one that started with my great uncle. People take Obama in and educate him, then he turns around and uses them, then abuses them. He’s on to the next person who will move him ahead. Ironically, just like my uncle, those who he has left behind, will follow along like baby ducks follow their mother. It is in their interest to see their investment win. They want some payback also. And Obama will give it to them once he is freed by the election. Ayers, Wright, Rezko, and Soros will all emerge unscathed by their time under the bus because they know that Obama just wanted them to hide under that bus for awhile.
My uncle lost his first campaign for Judge and there was a kid who worked for him that he thought so much of, that he paid for his education. Then Jake, knowing how much Lindsay wanted to be a judge, worked it out and gave it to him once he became an Alderman, then held Lindsay under his thumb for the rest of his career. Jake Arvey figured out a way to become the boss of his previous boss.
Obama is going to “send” Bill and Hillary out to political rallies for him? Who the hell is Obama to be sending out a former president and the Senator who wanted to be president that he abused with his attack dogs on every message board in every medium arming them with the word racist?
Well, Obama’s another Jake Arvey, who will get on top then use the people he has overcome to get his way by hook or crook. I pray that some of those people will develop their inner spine and fortitude to resist the direction that Obama will lead them in because they will not be going to a good moral place by following him.

Feinstein’s letter as all of the comments coming out of the Democrats…everyone…acts as if nobody knew anything. We have seen quotes from Frank and Dodd from years previously, outright denying anything was wrong . Liers all. Hypocrites all. Should we not let these people know that in fact we know how incompetent and complicit they have been here?
I think so.
#668 Libby. Yes that is an amazing story! I want to thank you for telling the story because it provides a good context and understanding for what has been unfolding in our current political climate. You have also said something very important that I have observed and believed ever since this campaign began– that Obama and his campaign are akin to hit men. In other words, the name of the game is to annihilate the competition. In this case it is psychological annihilation– if you stand in Obama’s way you basically get wacked. Now if you apply that to a presidency on a global magnitude it is more frightening. Obama accuses McCain of being more hawkish, but if you look carefully, Obama has been more ruthless and dangerous in attacking and eliminating both friends and enemies.
Libby – that is quite a story and i would love to send it to the obamites. the problem is people won’t believe it. is there anything that you can add to it so they will believe it. i do believe it, but i know my friends will say “she just made it up to hurt obama” as they always let him get away with murder. it kills me.
With regard to the bailout package, what I don’t understand, and perhaps someone could enlighten me, is why they would consider singling out ACORN in this bill at all in the first place? I don’t understand what the relevance is of this organization to bailing out our economy.
#673Hillgirl: You have just described in summary the tenets of Saul Alinsky, which have been applied by Obama, his campaign, and his surrogates in his rise to power and to the Presidency.
These tenets have been practiced as a conduit by Obama his entire adult life, as indicated by his own words and acknowledgements.
This is his model for behavior and will remain so.
This is why he, his model, and those complicit with it, i.e. The DNC are and will remain a danger to the very nature of this republic.
This is no time for any of us to let up on any and every move we can imagine, including getting out the vote across this country…the most important determinant of this election .
#673Hillgirl: There is no relevance . Linkage was made because ACORN, a nonprofit, has served as a socalled housing advocate and educator for lowincome would be first time homeowners in the past. This linkage was done as a vehicle by Democrats to fund more money to this group. I suppose no one was supposed to notice that this same group , as you know I am sure, all over the country has been investigated and in some cases charges brought against members for submitting fraudalent voter registration forms to Registrars in various states. Moreover, I supposed no one was supposed to notice that the efforts are being made by them on behalf of Obama.
Be assured, everyone, if the money has been taken out of the package, it will appear somewhere else down the line as an attachment, to another bill or simply as a move regarding the bailout.
@#666 GBPuma

You know, we have seen this before. Obama camp is threatening any NRA ads that run in PA; anti-Obama blogs get attacked; radio shows discussing Obama’s work at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge get stormed by his Obots to shut it down; petitions to get journalists fired if they write anything too negative about O; DEATH THREATS to those who do not support O or speak out against him; caucus mosh pits during primaries–the lying and the cheating; brown shirts; Obama camps; Moveon..
Guys. I really think that our rights will be infringed in a serious way if he is president. You understand what they wish to do in Missouri is communist-style, right?

The latest weekly polls from Gallup has very interesting information that nobody is reporting on. McCain support among independents started to creep up. For months now it has been around 30% but last week, one of McCain worse according to Gallup, the number has gone up to 38% where as Obama went back to 24%. Obama has never done well with independents. That is a 14% advantage for McCain.
Now lets look at party identification in 2008 Sep 8-11 (according to Gallup) 32% republican, 31% independents, 35% democrats. By the way, this is the highest for the republicans since 2006 Jul 28-30. So if you figure that the support among democrats and republicans are about the same for their candidates respectively then Obama would have about a 3 point lead over McCain. Now add in the independents where McCain is way ahead and you see how McCain has a major advantage in this race that is not reflected in the polls. Actually just the opposite is being portrayed.
Now lets look at the 2004 election break down by party affiliation. 37% Democrats, 37% Republicans, 26% independents. 89% of democrats voted for Kerry and 93% of republicans voted for Bush. Independents split 49% to 48% for Kerry. The DNC was much more united in 2004 then it is now. (Exit Polls) http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/president/
With the selection of Palin the republican base energized and firmly united. Democrats and maybe even independents don’t like her that much. On a side not ,the MSM is trying its best to tare her down. I guess they did not like the fact that she does no want to talk to them. I have a feeling that once McCain/Palin get elected the MSM will be shutout completely from the McCain administration. So the MSM is fighting for its life here. Getting back to the Palin effect, she will assure that the republicans going to have a very strong showing in this election because of her conservative credentials. The republicans have long held that the MSM has a bias and anything they say will be looked at as biased reporting.
So the turnout in percentage will be pretty much as it was in 2004 and that will work toward McCain’s advantage since independence break for him at a much larger margin then they did for Bush. Plus, add in the fact that there are millions of democrats that voted for Hillary and will not vote for Obama because they don’t trust him and so have no choice then to vote for McCain to ensure that he does not get into office. Now why do the polls not reflect this? Because they have a 10 point bias for Obama. They will start adjusting these numbers as the we get closer to election to reflect what is truly going on. This is by far the crazies election and the most manipulated of any that I have seen.

Here’s my 2 cents worth:
As for the article about the “beautiful” Michelle Obama
as First Lady – just more paid media b$$$$$ht. I ignore
that junk. Obie puts out there anything that he thinks will up his numbers. He has used the media to pysch out folks, either into believing everybody loves him or loves Michelle, or hates McCain and Palin.
As for a low number of folks watching the debate. I think most people have already made up their minds and won’t change them. It’s the undecided (how in the world can you be undecided at this point??) that we have to reach.
As for the “truth squads” – OMG get ready for the gestapo! These should be a big major red flag to the citizens of the country. And yes I think it deserves a BIG prowl. I will make up something for my CO, NV, NM,
WI, and MN database. Can you imagine what life in the U.S. will be like if OB gets into the White House! And who are these damn law enforcement folks who think they can promote Obama and shut down anyone who opposes him. They should be fired and banned from further public service.
I just read the bailout update and I have to vent.
I hate Nancy Pelosi, what a scum, and Harry Reid, what an old fool. Obie makes it sound like he has everything to do with it. Rat! And he says there should have been more oversight. The bum, didn’t the Repubs try to do that and the Dems voted it down. It looks like GWB will get his package, but I didn’t see anything about money to ACORN.
By the way, once this is passed, I would like to know who voted on it and how they voted. Can someone provide that info? Thanks

#676 and 677 New Orleans Puma: Thank you! I really appreciate your response to my observation and question as well as the Alinsky reference. I know I have heard him referenced before and must look it up. I am still very angry about the ACORN inclusion in this bill–although direct monies will not be going to ACORN, if the government makes a profit from these investments, the bill makes provisions to give 20% of these profits to organizations such as ACORN. So, as you said, it has already “popped up”. I think another PROWL to our congress is warranted–this organization that has direct connections to Obama and is under investigation for extensive voter fraud should NOT be getting funds from the Federal Government! Ludicrous. And Obama says he is against special interests? This is a perfect example of supporting special interest groups, in my rather humble opinion.

#691hillgirl: Knowledge of the tactics of Alinsky is essential. As soon as you get a bead on them you will recognize the duplication of these methods by Obama consistently for the last 11 months. Alinsky’s book one among several, Rules for Radicals essentially says that any method to gain self interest ends is appropriate.
It is a modern day take off on Machiavelli’s the ends justify the means, but much worse because during the time Of Machiavelli, there were still some cultural adherences to the opposite….some means should not be used. Regarding Obama and special interest :
He is the master of using precisely any group or person to his own end…again, Alinsky. And, nonprofit groups like ACORN since it is a national group makes for a perfect alignment with this radical, fascist, socialist agenda of Obama and Obama himself. There is a coup going on in this country; it moved to another phase when Obimbo et al successfully usurped the DNC, the Party and the candidacy. We are in most perilous times. This is not a time to stand back, but a time boldly to continue to do what we are doing and more!
I have sent a letter to my representatives about the ACORN provision. If anyone wants to join in you can use this link:
http://www.rallycongress.com/letter2congress/698/
Here is a copy of the letter I sent re: ACORN
September 28, 2008
Dear Senator Casey,
Senator Specter,
Rep. Fattah,
I am extremely concerned about the provisions in the current bailout bill being fashioned and proposed to congress. My particular concern is the provision to contribute 20% of potential profits from the federal government’s asset buying to organizations such as ACORN. ACO RN has a direct connection to Senator Obama and has been implicated in wide spread voter fraud during the primary elections. To provide a group such as this with federal monies implies pandering to special political interests and also tacitly condones their illegal actions. This provision is unconscionable and needs to be stricken from the proposed bill. I thank you for your time and attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
#696Hillgirl: Great letter!
From my understanding they took the money for ACORN out of the bill.
#698itbj2: That may be so, but this money will come up and back again either in another bill or along the way as this so called bailout begins to happen. Vigilance on the issue is necessary for that reason. I am sure Republicans will watch for that, but we also must be alert as well, as I am most sure you definitely know!

I really would like to get anybody who was involved with the financial mess at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to be taken to the cleaners. Although, I don’t think this will really change anything. The prices of houses will continue to decline and more and more banks will start collapsing. All the 350 billion will do is slow things down. But at the end of the day 350 billion is a drop in the bucket of the close to 30 trillion that is now outstanding in house loans, car loans and credit cards. If only 10% of the loans go bad that is about 3 trillion dollars. There is no such money out there to be borrowed. Not even for the US government.
I don’t click on links anymore that do not give me some information about what I can expect on the other side.

Thanks .

rip33,
Is it just me?
I just feel that McCain will be the next president. I can really picture him and Palin in the white house…
you know how during the primaries Hillary ended up getting the undecided votes (because of her experinece) well if McCain and her are such good friends and he DOES have more experience. Who do you think those undeciders will go with? Hmmmm – McCain!
Just my thoughts…
* I totally agree. Million’s of people in this Country do not sit on the internet and the blogs. And since the most of the cable networks block positive feedback about McCain, one would get the impression that everyone loves Obama. Not so.
What you focus on becomes your reality. And what you think about expands, Don’t waste your energy pondering an Obama win. Focus your energy on a McCain win.
Frank’s fingerprints are all over the financial fiasco
Perhaps this has been already posted, I am sorry if it is a repeat. The link will take you to Alinsky’s rules for radicals.
Rules for Radicals
According to Fox News the direct “line item”, I guess, was taken out of the bill regarding ACORN, BUT, there was another provision put in that says if the government makes profits from buying these assets 20% will go to community groups such as ACORN. So, it is still in there, just not as blatant. Please feel free to check it out if are hesitant about these facts!
bodi
It is going to be a McCain victory.
Americans don’t really like change, they like the norm.
Thats why you have the same names in politics year after year. We vote for the familiar name time and time again.
McCain is just so well known he is a sure win.
Not to mention how bad the democratic base has been disaffected.
Hey, everyone, I am glad if you liked the letter and wanted to use it through the rally congress website. That website has sponsored various other petitions such as on the violation of the Logan Act and one other that I think we participated in from this site.

Polls – Likely vs Registered Voters
The biggest game being played with the polls (besides the O’bots cookie clearing) is the distinction between “Likely” and Registered voters. This is an adjustment made by the pollster. I have frequently heard it missaid by talking heads.
Gallup is using this adjustment. I sent them a message last week challenging them to track and post the breakdown of the Dems/Repubs as Registered/Likely voters. I have not heard back yet.
Question Everything.
HP _ I think the best line was when MCcain said ,” You don’t say that OUT LOUD!” when they were talking about Pakistan !!! – He practically called him a Moron !!! LOL

Puma’s you know what to do.
The story about Obama’s bracelet is outrageous. We know he is like that, but for him to do it during a Presidential Debate says just how far out there he is.
I have been lurking without posting much for the last few days because there is so much stuff to go blog about. Keep that information flowing!
I feel some more posting comming on.
John McCain: 37.2% (73 votes)

This is truly despicable. Obama sees that bracelet as nothing more than a campaign prop – a portable Greek Column he can use for the sole purpose of garnering votes.
The memories of soldiers who died in the service of their country are to be revered, not abused. This man is not fit to serve in any elected capacity, let alone the office of President.
HP – you ROCK! Yes , sometimes you have to have thick skin on here – I hope anna will reconsider – when pumas leave I get pissed off – and if any of you old pumas are lurking- you know who you are – I am pissed that you aren’t posting !!!!!!!

A great picture; a foreboding warning of what this Country faces if Obama is elected President:

You know there is an upside to these inflated polls favoring BO. A good part of his base are college kids because he is cool and trendy. If, on election day, he is leading by a good margin according to the polls many many of them will blow off taking the time to vote.
Year after year the liberal elite (aka actors, rappers, etc.) do their HUGE get out and vote speil. They are always overjoyed at so many new registered voters, then come election day they scratch their heads and wonder why nothing came out of it.
The majority of college kids are caught up in the me syndrome, much like their fearless leader Oblabla. Many of them will end up not voting period, but if he has a great lead (manufactured or not) that will be all the excuse needed for tons more not to go.
McCain’s base are driven by a duty to cast their vote no matter what the circumstances.
Just went and voted #733
* John McCain: 42.3% (94 votes)
* Barack Obama: 57.7% (128 votes)
222 votes cast
Notyoursweetie besides where you posted that on your site where else is that posted, where did you get your information from? I would love to get a couple of articles about that and sent it out to the media let them know how this soldiers family feels.
Oh and good morning everyone.
I voted
John McCain: 43.1% (97 votes)
Barack Obama: 56.9% (128 votes)

I’m a fairly new to this blog, but I’ve been a PUMA from the beginning. I have been surprised by some of the “Infighting” but I just ignore it.
My favorite thing about this blog is the great talking points posted by Anna and DWP to name a few.
I use the talking points all of the time.
Thank You!

I just cast my vote.

slyt2—-bless your heart!!!! It was only 430,000 hits yesterday afternoon. I sent it out as well, and will make the rounds again today.
Sunday sit on the floor in the living room and read the paper and listen to the Bobble Boyz post up.
Take it upstairs!
Morning Pumas
Just got back from putting out flyers.
PATTY:
I don’t think there is much “Infighting” going on among regular and productive members. It usually happens when someone decides to engage suspected OBOTS.
I sometimes have the temptation to jump in and ask them to stop, but that would be counter productive, so I simply skip over the engaged blogs and keep my inner peace.

What are they saying about voter fraud? I am competing with 3 seven yr olds and cartoons for TV time.
Grizzly-BO is such an opportunist-it really is disgusting.
He must have no integrity left.
Good mourning Pumas!
I too have speared the Burning down the house video.
The bracelet story is amazing.
Now I see on Fox that they are wondering if we will be in favor of the bail out with the new, deal pending.
That is like asking me if I am in favor of a root canal! Just pull the tooth I shouldn’t have eaten all that candy.
I voted, did you? Obama is ahead.

635 murphy Sounds to me like Murphy is gonna vote for BO. Or trying real hard to convince herself.
WHAT are we going to do about the voter fraud? Democrats mailing ballots to the prison? AND registering and voting for DEAD people on absentee ballots and A.C.O.R.N another PRO Obama organization that sent in over 1,000 bogus ballots to New Mexico alone that were flagged, all of them votes for B.O. with glaring inconsistencies and fake or replicated Social Security numbers? WTF? IT was NOT good enough to streal votes from HRC and NOW they are gonna rig the election in the General! THIS IS A SICK AMERICA…FROM here on out we DESERVE collectively EXACTLY what we are going to get if we sit back and allow this! Bill Clinton is voting for McCain and I think its a smart move, if you analyzed the debate you would notice Obama did to McCain exactly what he did to Hillary and regurgitate all of her ideas and spin them to appear like they were his! MCCAIN was not as agressive with Obama because he did not want to appear like he was beating up on baby Obama! BUT it went from the first night of the commentaries of them being virtually equal and tied during the debate, and McCain being ahead of national security to over the next few days it being OBAMA, OBAMA, OBAMA once the LIBERAL MEDIA could spin their webs! THIS IS just a painfully obvious aspect of what has become AMERICA the ELITIST LIARS and THIEVES! Sick…..
bythelake, Hillgirl, Luckyseven,
I will try to get some time to put this into a well written story with links to some of the articles that are available online that back it up…and the rest of the story.
