VERY POIGNANT:

Here is a letter to the editor in the Richmond Times Dispatch dated July 7, 2008:

http://www.inrich.com/cva/ric/search.apx.-content-articles-RTD-2008-07-07-0033.html

Beware Charismatic Men Who Preach ‘Change’

Editor, Times-Dispatch:

Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day and on July 4 I celebrate America’s. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.
On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba and a few months later I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.
I’ve thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, and they were right. So when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.
When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said “Praise the Lord.” And when the young leader said, “I will be for change and I’ll bring you change,” everyone yelled, “Viva Fidel!”
But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner’s guns went silent the people’s guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time the change was finally implemented Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I’m back to the beginning of my story.
Luckily, we would never fall in America for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America?
Would we?

Manuel Alvarez Jr. Sandy Hook.

For Immediate Release: – 09/24/08
OBAMA & DNC HIDE BEHIND LEGAL ISSUES WHILE BETRAYING PUBLIC IN NOT PRODUCING A CERTIFIED COPY OF OBAMA’S “VAULT” BIRTH CERTIFICATE AND OATH OF ALLEGIANCE
Country is Headed to a Constitutional Crisis
(Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania – 09/24/08) – Philip J. Berg, Esquire, the Attorney who filed suit against Barack H. Obama challenging Senator Obama’s lack of “qualifications” to serve as President of the United States, announced today that Obama and Democratic National Committee [DNC] filed a Joint Motion to Dismiss on the last day to file a response, for the obvious purpose of delaying Court action in the case of Berg v. Obama, No. 08-cv-04083.
Their joint motion indicates a concerted effort to avoid the truth by delaying the judicial process, although legal, by not resolving the issue presented: that is, whether Barack Obama was “natural born.”
It is obvious that Obama was born in Kenya and does not meet the “qualifications” to be President of the United States pursuant to our United States Constitution. Obama cannot produce a certified copy of his “Vault” [original long version] Birth Certificate from Hawaii because it does not exist.

This may sound somewhat counterintuitive, but I believe Bill Clinton is a much better former President than he was a President. I don’t say that to minimize his tenure as President, but I have been following him from the beginning, and I believe that since he has been out of office, he has made that rare leap from “politician” to “statesman”.

When Bill was first running for President, I was the youngest of 6 senior executives running a financial services holding company in the Northeast/MidAtlantic. Being good corproate citizens, we purchased tickets to all of the Dem and GOP events in our home city and took turns attending those events. As the youngster in the group, I drew the “short straw” – go to the event for one of the Democratic candidates for President – that guy from Arkansas.

I showed up my usual 30 minutes early and got some great standing room about 20 feet back from the podium. The guy from Arkansas was right on time. He stood in the middle of the stage, eschewing the podium, and for about 40 minutes, spoke without notes. He made eye contact with every single person in the room (anyone who has spoken in public can fully understand the virtual impossibility of this) and made the gathered listeners feel that he was speaking to them, not at them. His manner was confident and deliberate. And he didn’t miss a beat. He took questions and gave concise and crips answers, never having to rely on a pregnant pause or an “uh” to gather his thoughts.

The next day at our 7:00 AM executive staff meeting, I was asked how the event went. I answered that while I had never seen JFK in person, I had seen video of his speeches. I noted that this guy from Arkansas was THE best extemporaneous speaker I had ever seen. He had an uncanny grasp of the issues of which he spoke, and removed any doubt as to his capabilities.

That guy from Arkansas was Bill Clinton. When he was first elected, he had been battered in the partisan electoral process that had polarized both sides. His start was a little rocky, with many of the issues of national import a new experience for him. He was just hitting his stride when the whole Lewinsky thing broke, which severely compromised his ability to effectively perform his duties.

But still, the man was and is probably the most intelligent person to grace the White House in our lifetimes. And he was still a force to be recokened with.

After he left office, with the passage of time, I believe the pressure of partisanship had less and less of an impact on him. He continued to grow as a person and as a political figure, something that does not happen very often, since people departing from lofty positions are usually content to sit on their laurels.

And then it hapened. Somewhere Bill Clinton became a statesman. That rare leader that had all but disappeared from our political landscape.

Too bad he is retired from the game.

A couple comments this morning. First I noticed a lot of concern downstairs about polls.

A few things to keep in mind. Obama is controlling the people that control the polls — so don’t listen to them. And I posted some links a few days back that proves that Gallup has been tampering with the data by oversampling young cell phone users as well as oversampling democrats.

That said — I think it’s still interesting that with all their oversampling and data fudging — they still have to admit to a steady decline for Obama and steady increase for McCain (but show them as tie today)

http://www.gallup.com/poll/110668/Gallup-Daily-Race-Back-Tie-46-Each.aspx

The paragraph below the graph states the following

A night by night analysis of interviewing results, however, does not suggest that McCain had a dramatically better night against Obama on Wednesday. Instead, the data show that McCain has been doing slightly better for the last three days than he had in the previous week, and with some strong Obama days falling off of the rolling average, the race has moved to its current tied position.

To answer #91 LandiPUMA’s question downstairs

Whenever you want to know how something is done on a blog… if you right click on an empty space on the blog page and choose View Source — you can see the HTML source code for the entire page in a text document file. I usually press Ctrl+F to get the find dialog box and then type in text that starts near the formatting change to find it in the file quickly.

When I did this to find the text that showed the quote text with a red line — I found that the text is surrounded with the “<” carrot marks and the word inside of blockquote at the beginning and a slash added at the end within the carrot marks (similar to the rules for making bold or italic text).

I have a rather dumb question… wasn’t Pelosi saying last week that the congress was going to be taking another vacation about now? ….and leaving the economy problem sit there while they were gone? Hmmmmm……. LOL….

#24 NewOrleansPuma on 09.25.08 at 2:06 pm

#18ElyLosAngeles: Hillary Clinton’s proposal in the Wall Stret Journal OpEd would and does…but Dodd, Kerry, Frank, Reid, Pelosi, OBIMBO are and have been in the tank with the financial people for years. I have always felt that Hillary was put aside by the party as much as for this reason, ..i.e. she would not go as far as they in their acquiescence to the Financial Movers as she, or perhaps primarily for this reason as for any that had to do with removing Bill and Hillary from power positions in the Party. Her proposal shows this., again…

#25 kat in your hat on 09.25.08 at 2:06 pm

Democrats (like Dodd) are saying they think they have a deal. A few republicans are still saying No Deal. Democrats apparently want to help some Wall Street firms and republicans want to help main street banks.

I would like to add to your observations… something to be aware of with Bill Clinton body language. Whenever he is saying something he doesn’t take seriously — he literally puts his tongue in his cheek. I’ve seen him do this several times while making statements that he believes Obama will be the next President. Watch for this body language and you will notice it too.

He did it during his speech at the DNC convention during two statements. The first one was the obvious joke that he hated to have to follow Hillary’s great speech from the night before — and then stuck his tongue in his cheek again when he said he supported Barack Obama for the first time in his speech.

Thought I would post it for conversation..Interesting to say the least.

TO ALL MY FRIENDS….LIBERAL OR CONSERVATIVE……..FYI only.
>
George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six years the economy was fine
>
> A little over one year ago
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
4) the DOW JONES hit a record high-140+ 5) American’s were buying new cars, taking cruises,
> vacations overseas, living large!…
But American’s wanted ‘CHANGE’! So, in
2006 they
> voted in a Democratic Congress and yes–we got ‘CHANGE’ all right.
In the
> PAST YEAR:
>
1) Consumer confidence has plummeted;
2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing;
3) Unemployment is up to 5.5%(a 10% increase);
4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12
> TRILLION and prices still dropping;
5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
6) as I write, THE DOW is probing another low~~
$2.5 TRILLION DOLLARS HAS EVAPORATED FROM THEIR
> STOCKS, BONDS & MUTUAL FUNDS INVESTMENT PORTFOLIOS!
>
YES, IN 2006 AMERICA VOTED FOR CHANGE…AND WE SURE
> GOT IT!..
>
REMEMBER THE PRESIDENT HAS NO CONTROL OVER ANY OF THESE
> ISSUES, ONLY CONGRESS.
>
>
>
AND WHAT HAS CONGRESS DONE IN THE LAST TWO YEARS,
> ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
>
NOW THE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE FOR PRESIDENT CLAIMS HE IS
> GOING TO REALLY GIVE US CHANGE ALONG WITH A DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS!!!!
>
JUST HOW MUCH MORE ‘CHANGE’ DO YOU THINK YOU CAN
STAND?

To answer your question from downstairs:

“I didn’t see Katie Couric interview but they are not talking very good about it. I also saw some clips (of course the one they showed was bad) but I don’t know how the rest of the interview went did anyone on here see it.”

~~~~~~~
Katie Couric was the female version of the Gibson interview. She was condescending and obviously trying to do a lot of “gotcha” questions. While I’m sure many will spin Palin’s performance as bad… I saw a woman that still came off extremely poised and credible — especially taking into the consideration of the hostility she was facing in Couric. I think — many will see the same thing despite the Obamabots trying to spin differently.
states. So did Nobama just lose his bearings, or was
this a more telling slip? ladies and gentlemen’
A bipartisan deal has been struck in the bailout.
They’re going to the White House after 3:55 PM for a meeting.
“But in addition to the new changes they are seeking, Democrats are also urging the White House to deliver Republican votes for the package. “We are not taking ownership of this,” Mrs. Pelosi said.”
It looks like the Dems are passing the buck.
But they are going to need McCain to get it finalized.
Connecticut Dems Circulate Censure Resolution on Lieberman
Connecticut Democrats, angry that Sen. Joe Lieberman is campaigning for the Republican presidential candidate and criticizing his own party’s nominee, agreed Wednesday to circulate a resolution to censure the veteran politician but won’t consider acting on it until after Election Day.
The state party’s central committee Wednesday agreed to send copies of the resolution to every Democratic town committee in the state. The resolution condemns Lieberman for speaking at the Republicans’ convention and backing John McCain.
If you’re talking about the discussion on Clinton supporters… a man was on that said they have been polling the same 2000 people since Hillary suspended her campaign in June. The poll shows that something like 58% of Clinton supporters are not supporting Obama and that figure has not budged since June… still the same poll results when done again this week.
Greta asked why these people are not voting for Obama. The man stated (NOT GRETA’S WORDS) that it could be they don’t trust him… or it could be do to racism. I think we’re all tired of the racism excuse but in Greta’s defense — she didn’t make that claim — the guest speaker of the story made the claim.
#16 Grizzly I love Bill Clinton. He made mistakes in office, he’s human. We all are. The deregulation happened on his watch as well as NAFTA, balancing a record deficit, peace, prosperity. But Clinton said of NAFTA, and I believe it is true of deregulation also, that these types of things have to be revisited and updated occasionally. That wasn’t done and we are feeling the result of it. I would like to see Clinton back in the White House, one way or another. With Hillary there, we get two for the price of one. But that won’t happen this time around. Hopefully it will next.
McCain is a true leader
The soundbites on FOX this morning were PRICELESS!! There was McCain, back in 2005,
fighting for US as always, pushing for regulations on Fannie and Freddie and warning what
could (and now HAS) happened without it. Of course, the Democrats blocked it and are now
running around trying to blame someone else for this mess. The soundbite of Barney Frank,
dismissing the need for any reguation, was laughable. He should resign.
McCain has been and always will be a TRUE LEADER, looking out for the best interests
of the American people and the USA.
Obama is showing more and more of what he has to offer: NOTHING
Her husband is a PUMA at heart and a huge Clinton supporter that defected to McCain publicly and I’m sure Greta is in agreement with that stance. She understands but still has to report impartially. But you can see in her actions that she always tries to be fair and do the right thing. Especially for McCain/Palin… and the Clintons
GENERIC LETTER TO CONGRESSMAN HASTINGS FOR ANYONE TO USE. I’VE POSTED HIS FAX NUMBERS AT THE BOTTOM SINCE YOU CAN’T USE HIS WEB FORM UNLESS YOU LIVE IN HIS DISTRICT.
——————————————————-
Dear Congressman Hastings:
I am writing to you as a life long Democrat with profound concerns regarding your comments this week when speaking at a panel discussion hosted by the National Jewish Democratic Council. I am appalled that you would presume to state that blacks and Jews should beware of Sarah Palin because she knows how to shoot a gun and skin a moose. This smacks of the kind of hideous stereotyping that blacks, Jews, and other groups have been subjected to for years. When someone is determined to hate you due to the color of you skin, your religious affiliation, or any other reason, it is common for them to link anything and everything about you to your race or religion, even though the link is irrelevant. This is why it’s so difficult to shatter racist or anti-Semitic thinking, because it is so utterly irrational. If you feel there is something worthy of concern pertaining to Sarah Palin’s candidacy, I would suggest you stick to the relevant facts.
And, while on the subject of facts, I would suggest that Barack Obama’s church affiliation, his taking on Reverend Wright as a father figure and mentor, and his church’s elevation of Louis Farrakhan to great heights would be a very important fact for Jews (and others) to pay attention to. Sarah Palin’s hunting skills are neither here nor there as it pertains to an intellect discourse about politics and who should be our next President and Vice President.
Each and every day, the Democrats make it easier for me to feel confident about voting for the McCain/Palin ticket in November. You’ve just provided me with one more bit of evidence that the Democrats have steered far off course. I can no longer say with pride that this is my party. It has become unrecognizable.
But, thanks for the tip off that should I run into anyone who totes a gun or seems skilled at skinning a moose to be suspicious they are secretly, or overtly, a racist and an anti-Semite. I had not known that before.
from gretas
Alan Greenspan warned of impending disaster with Frannie and Freddie.
Why is no one interviewing Alan Greenspan on his take?
There is an interesting piect on Bloomberg.com dated September 24 (NY time) by Kevin Hassett where he mentions Greenspan in the 11th paragraph quoting his (Greenspan’s) warning back in 2005 of impending disaster with Fannie and Freddie.
A bill came out of the Senate Banking Committee (S.190) which gave power for a crackdown and required companies to eliminate their investments in risky assets. In 2005,2006, and 2007 there was a flurry of bad mortgage paper out of Fannie and Freddie burying some old institutions.
But guess what, the bill never became law because the Democrats opposed in on a party-oline vote in the committee.
Three of the many people who protected Fannie and Freddie were none other than: Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Christopher Dodd. All three received financial support from them over the years, to-wit: Obama $125,000; Dodd $165,000; Clinton $75,000. Payoff to the helpers who aided in killing the bill.
The zinger: John McCain was one of the three cosponsors of Senate 190, the bill that apparently would have helped averted this mess.
I am going to do some more research on this issue, but please read the Bloomberg.com article by Kevin Hassett and then look up the bill and decide for yourself.
DEBATE CAN WAIT
I just have to say it again. Who cares about a debate, now? It’s just not a priority right now, but a distraction!
Who can truthfully say that a debate is more important than a financial crisis that could affect every man, woman, and child in our country?
A president has to be able to set priorities and apparently John McCain thinks that his country is worth a little extra time while Obama would prefer not to get his hands dirty and prefers nice little phone chats over hard work.
It’s not surprising because senator Obama doesn’t even know how the senate works, in his own words, and is not qualified to be president. Nothing would change if he was president. It would be all talk, and I find it a breath of fresh air to think that his dog and pony show debate of rhetoric will be delayed.
I’m concerned with my future and how this crisis will affect my family. I want a president that cares enough to be “hands on”. McCain wants “fiscal responsibility and restraints on spending” and Obama wants to spend, spend, spend, to save the world. The world can wait, while we get our house in order first!
In my opinion, Obama is showing that he is a political “COWARD” in a time of crisis. I’ll vote the hero over the zero. John McCain has common sense that even Harvard can’t teach someone like Obama.
PROUD OF MCCAIN
I’m so proud of Senator McCain for acting like an American. He had enough political guts to show up in Washington on his own to help fix our economy.
Meanwhile Obama is hiding in a Miami Bunker practicing his lines and his rhetoric. I’d rather we didn’t have a debate, I’m tired of listening to Obama and his excuses for his inaction. Trying to claim credit for ideas that John McCain proposed in 2005.
In 2005 McCain sponsored legislation to regulate Frannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and Obama voted against it!!
This didn’t have to end up in an economic crisis.
Senator McCain is on the record for calling for a board to oversee these institutions. He predicted this financial crisis. So, do I care about a debate when I know McCain was smart enough to see this coming and Obama helped it happen? No.
A president has to be a visionary of future crisis and John McCain was right and Obama was wrong again!!
I believe that John McCain cares for our country. He is proving it right now by suspending his campaign. Bravo!
His priorities are the economy first stupid, then we can debate other issues.
Meanwhile Obama is promising the world that he will spend the rest of our money on abolishing global poverty!! Hey dude, are you crazy??? We have a financial crisis in America that has been called a financial “pearl harbor” by Warren Buffet, and you want to skip town.
Now, you have to be called to the Whitehouse by the president like a little child to participate in helping to clean up a mess that Democrats like yourself Barney Frank and Chris Dodd helped to create?
Explain why the dems voted down regulartory reform in 2003, 2005/6, and have ignored this while you controll congress and the banking and finance committees. Why democrats encouraged bad mortgage practices to buy the support of voters for elections. That’s what it boils down to, political bribery.
Sacrificing our economic welfare for the votes you could get by preventing regulatory control of the mortage industry. It makes us sick!!
Who do you want in the Whitehouse in a crisis? Someone that plays politics as usual like Obama, or someone like John McCain that puts the needs of the people first??
The answer is simple…vote John McCain.
SUBJECT: JOHN MCCAIN’S 2005 HOUSING REGULATORY REFORM ACT
Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005
Bill Summary:
1/26/2005–Introduced. Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005 – Amends the Federal Housing Enterprises Financial Safety and Soundness Act of 1992 to establish: (1) in lieu of the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), an independent Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Agency which shall have authority over the Federal Home Loan Bank Finance Corporation, the Federal Home Loan Banks, the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae), and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (Freddie Mac); and (2) the Federal Housing Enterprise Board. Sets forth operating, administrative, and regulatory provisions of the Agency, including provisions respecting:
(1) assessment authority;
(2) authority to limit non-mission-related assets;
(3) minimum and critical capital levels;
(4) risk-based capital test;
(5) capital classifications and undercapitalized enterprises;
(6) enforcement actions and penalties;
(7) golden parachutes; and
(8) reporting. Amends the Federal Home Loan Bank Act to establish the Federal Home Loan Bank Finance Corporation.
Transfers the functions of the Office of Finance of the Federal Home Loan Banks to such Corporation. Excludes the Federal Home Loan Banks from certain securities reporting requirements. Abolishes the Federal Housing Finance Board.
The bill introduced in 2005 — John McCain sponsor.
Get this out to everyone you know and prove:
That Obama is a liar and blaming the republicans for our financial crisis when the record shows that it was the democrats including Obama and Biden, that voted against regulatory reform. They blocked this bill from passing!
Who do you want in the White House during a crisis? A candidate that plays politics as usual, or John McCain who puts the needs of the people first? The answer is simple – vote John McCain.
Democrat Barney Frank was very vocal speaking out against regulatory reform in 2005/6. Democrats Barney Frank and Chris Dodd chair the banking and finance committees. However, where were they during the buildup to this crisis?
They had ample warning from John McCain and Alan Greenspan in 2005/6 and did nothing. They fought against regulatory reform of Freddie and Fannie which lead to the root cause of America’s financial crisis on wallstreet. Their incompetence is obscene.
Now we look to them to solve the problem? With their record, its no wonder they’re stumbling all over themselves to blame the Republicans. Even Bush tried to pass regulatory reform in 2003 and the democrats blocked them.
ANOTHER new post? Geez, we haven’t even hit 100 down here!
#97 nhforhillary on 09.25.08 at 2:46 pm
It doesn’t instill confidence in me to think that Obama would prefer to study up for a debate instead of going to Washington during an economic crisis. I don’t think he knows how to set priorities and I’m grateful that John McCain will at least be there trying to help. On second thought, Washington doesn’t need Obama, he can wait in Florida to see if the next President of the U.S. John McCain will give him an audience.
Country first, Obama last.
#98 Asian4Hillary on 09.25.08 at 2:50 pm
It makes you wonder sometimes, if these people we’ve elected US Senate are after protecting our welfare or they’re after making their wallet fat at our expense.
There’s no such thing as sacred cow when we deal with graft and corruption within our government. We have to evaluate it for what it is and decide what is best for OUR OWN INTEREST not what is best for the party. Seldom politicians stand up for their constituents, we’ve seen how Hillary stand up for her party instead of standing up for the people that supported her.
Don’t fall in love with politicians, always have limitations for your loyalty with your political affiliations. Be loyal to yourself first, no one will do it for you. In the scheme of things, in the world of real politics, those who speaks sweetly, promises the moon and the stars will pick your wallet and expect you to be grateful. :(
Barack Obama does not need to release any records and he does not need to explain himself. That is why the media has not pushed him. They know he is destined to become POTUS.
Barack Obama is the hope and the salvation we have been looking for and waiting for. He knows this and so do so many others like Oprah Winfrey, Reverend Wright and Jesse Jackson. If you do not vote for Barack Obama there is only one reason: you are either a racist or you have been infected by Satan.
Turn away from the republicans and their games and embrace the only true man who is entitled to the election: Barack Obama.
“We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek.”
