That McClatchey article on women voters who support McCain would have supported him anyway, is blarney.
First of all, if Hillary was the presidential nominee we would have been voting for her.
Second, a lot of Reagan Democrats who would have voted for Hillary, are now supporting McCain. Plus, older voters have been around too long to be sold a bill of goods by Obama.
Obama’s numbers are up because if the economy is down, then polls go down for the incumbent party. If the economy goes up, then McCain should go up in the polls and level the playing field.

Obama’s Social Security Whopper

He tells Social Security recipients their money would now be in the stock market under McCain’s plan. False.
Summary
In Daytona Beach, Obama said that “if my opponent had his way, the millions of Floridians who rely on it would’ve had their Social Security tied up in the stock market this week.” He referred to “elderly women” at risk of poverty, and said families would be scrambling to support “grandmothers and grandfathers.”
That’s not true. The plan proposed by President Bush and supported by McCain in 2005 would not have allowed anyone born before 1950 to invest any part of their Social Security taxes in private accounts. All current retirees would be covered by the same benefits they are now.
Obama would have been correct to say that many workers under age 58 would have had some portion of their Social Security benefits affected by the current market turmoil – if they had chosen to participate. And market drops would be a worry for those who retire in future decades. But current retirees would not have been affected.
Analysis
In our “Scaring Seniors” article posted Sept. 19 we took apart a claim in an Obama-Biden ad that McCain somehow supported a 50 percent cut in Social Security benefits, which is simply false. Then, on Saturday Sept. 20, Sen. Barack Obama personally fed senior citizens another whopper, this one a highly distorted claim about the private Social Security accounts that McCain supports.
What Obama Said
In Daytona Beach, Florida, Obama said in prepared remarks released by the campaign:
Obama, Sept. 20: And I’ll protect Social Security, while John McCain wants to privatize it. Without Social Security half of elderly women would be living in poverty – half. But if my opponent had his way, the millions of Floridians who rely on it would’ve had their Social Security tied up in the stock market this week. Millions would’ve watched as the market tumbled and their nest egg disappeared before their eyes. Millions of families would’ve been scrambling to figure out how to give their mothers and fathers, their grandmothers and grandfathers, the secure retirement that every American deserves. So I know Senator McCain is talking about a “casino culture” on Wall Street – but the fact is, he’s the one who wants to gamble with your life savings.
That’s untrue. All current retirees would be covered by exactly the same Social Security benefits they are now under what the Obama campaign likes to call the “Bush-McCain privatization plan,” which Bush pushed for unsuccessfully in 2005.
Who Would Have Been Affected
As the White House spelled out at the time, on page 5 of the document titled “Strengthening Social Security for the 21st Century,” released in February 2005:
Bush Plan: Personal retirement accounts would be phased in. To ease the transition to a personal retirement account system, participation would be phased in according to the age of the worker. In the first year of implementation, workers currently between age 40 and 54 (born 1950 through 1965 inclusive) would have the option of establishing personal retirement accounts. In the second year, workers currently between age 26 and 54 (born 1950 through 1978 inclusive) would be given the option and by the end of the third year, all workers born in 1950 or later who want to participate in personal retirement accounts would be able to do so.
Nobody born before Jan. 1, 1950 could have participated, and anyone born on that date would be 58 years old now. The earliest possible age for receiving Social Security retirement benefits is 62, for early retirement at reduced benefits. Full retirement age is currently 66, and scheduled to go up to age 67 in coming years.
It is certainly true that the stock market carries risks, as recent events remind us. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is down nearly 17 percent for this year, for example, and despite gains in other years it is still barely above where it was at the start of 2000. But historically there have also been rewards for those who make diversified investments and hold for long periods. When Obama spoke, the Dow Jones average still stood 305 percent higher than it had at the start of the 1990’s.
Disappearing nest eggs?
Also worth noting here:
The private accounts would have been voluntary. Anybody fearful of the stock market’s risk could simply stay in the current system.
Obama’s reference to “casino culture,” disappearing “nest eggs” and gambling with “your life savings” are also misleading exaggerations. Only a little over one-fourth of any workers’ total Social Security taxes could have been invested (a maximum of 4 percent of taxable wages, out of the total 15.3 per cent now paid, split equally between worker and employer.)
Speculation in individual stocks would not have been permitted. Workers would have had a choice of a few, broadly diversified stock or bond funds.
While McCain has voted in favor creating private Social Security accounts in the past, and endorsed Bush’s 2005 proposal (which never came to a vote in Congress), he is not making a strong push for them as part of his campaign. In fact, a search for the term “Social Security” on the McCain-Palin Web site brings up the following: “No documents were found.”
Footnote: When we contacted the Obama campaign for comment, spokesman Tommy Vietor defended Obama’s remarks as accurate:
Vietor: You don’t have to be retired to rely on Social Security. Millions of people who will one day retire rely on Social Security as they plan their future. Senator Obama’s bottom line is absolutely true. If McCain got his way and we had private accounts . . . people who are relying on that money for their retirement would be in a very difficult situation.
We would grant Vietor a point if Obama had made any mention of workers being fearful of their future retirement (although this would apply only to those who had chosen to participate in private accounts, and not to everybody.) But Obama did not say that. Instead, he referred to “elderly women” in danger of poverty. He spoke of families “scrambling to figure out how to give their mothers and fathers, their grandmothers and grandfathers” a secure retirement – not to families worrying about their own retirement. If Obama did not mean what he said to be a reference to current retirees, he could say so clearly and amend his words.

If Rev Wright, Rezko, and Ayers didn’t do it; if his votes again the “born alive protection act” didn’t do it; if his lies and changing views all the time (and then accusing US of lying about what he said the first time) didn’t do it…. I rather doubt that will. That, after all, is his wife, not him. He’s managed to get away with the things HE has done, I can’t see where something his wife had done is going to do much anymore now… At least not enough to make much difference in the way the vote turns out….

Obama Spurns Harry Reid’s Cash Request
Barack Obama has turned aside a direct request from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to share some of his fundraising haul to aid Democratic senatorial candidates this November.
Obama raised $66 million in August, leaving his campaign with about $77 million in cash. He has turned down public financing, meaning he can keep raising money through Election Day, while his Republican opponent John McCain, who has accepted the public money, can’t.
But McCain already has $84 million in public money, and will get significant help from the Republican National Committee, which has greatly outraised its Democratic counterpart, as well as from the GOP’s state and local committees, Politico reported. That makes Obama reluctant to share his campaign war chest.
Reid and Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Charles Schumer had hoped to pick up as much as $10 million from the Obama campaign as they seek to pad their Senate majority and counter the tens of millions of dollars the Republican National Committee will spend in states with competitive Senate races.
But the Obama campaign so far “has agreed only let Senate Democrats use Obama’s name — as well as those of his wife and running mate — in mail and online fundraising pitches,” according to Politico.
“The campaign has planned no joint fundraising events with House or Senate Democrats, and insiders say none is likely to be held before Election Day.”

I know BO announced big $ this month for his campaign. $12 million of it was a transfer from the BO Victory Fund (Joint DNC/BO) that they cleaned out by also transferring another $31 mil to the DNC. Notice they have not announced the totals for the DNC/BO campaign.
All the transfers make it confusing, but they they appear to have spent about $68 million and brought in $83 million. But this does not include what was transfered to the Convention fund. This appears to be around $18 million but that cannot be confirmed until the quarterly reports are filed next month.
I would guess that the net of the BO/DNC dropped by about $3 million during August.
BO’s Campaign funds show the benefit of the Convention, but not the cost. BO has huge expenses and is going to end up with Campaign Debt if he does not slow down.

Before I left the blog for a wonderful two week vacation, there were efforts to encourage our PUMAS to become pollwatchers especially in swing states. Pumas, has that effort continued?
The Democrats don’t care about the “elderly” or the retired. They seem to think we are all rich and have millions and billions stored away. And if we do or did, its because we worked hard for fifty years to save, save, save for these “golden” years. To all young ones, those golden years come all too soon.

The retired and the elderly are “not all baby boomers” who bought two plus houses, boats, toys, trips to Mexico, etc. We all largely what some sociologist call the “Sandwich Generation” (born just as WWII was closing and before the 1950s). We have our parents’ depression memories, but we also have our children’s embracing technology mentality. We are not caught inbetween. We are the “good” stuff of the sandwich. But politicians are forgetting us and not seeing our tremendous worth because there are not as many of us as the baby boomers. We paid for our children’s college education (out of pocket) because we had jobs that threw us out of financial aide. We started our careers in the 60s and were paid less than $4000/yr. We were loyal to our employer and stayed with them for over 40 years. Our employer was loyal to us as well. Now we see Democrats taxing our savings and investments which we worked so hard for so that our children don’t have us as burdens. The Republicans have continued to tax us to death since the Reagan years. I’m fed up with the “me” attitude of Congress and any politician under 60. They have forgotten us.

One of the recurrent themes in this election cycle for me has been the hostile, aggressive behavior from some BO supporters. I have not felt this type of aggression directed at Dems from other Dems in quite this manner before. It is the sort of behavior that dominated the caucuses. The New Agenda is a not-for-profit organization and will not be endorsing a candidate in the presidential election.

The New Agenda has also requested a meeting with Gov. Sarah Palin to discuss the group’s platform.

I went off to read other blogs. It seems clear now that the racism accusation will probably dominate the “news” this week. This is an old strategy (they did it against HC/BC and their voters), so don’t even think about it or get off your game plan because of it. If someone says that to you, forward or give them some of the flyers posted in the action pages. They outline exactly why BO shouldn’t be president and none of them talk about race. If they say that the racism is implied, just tell them that if that’s the case you can see racism everywhere on an every day basis (T.V., radio, movies,…you BO people appear a little racist yourselves!..). After all, who isn’t racist if Bill Clinton is a racist? This is a man who placed his offices in Harlem and has done tons of charitable work in Africa. Was Maya Angelou a racist because she supported HC? If she is then there are a lot of “racist” AA people because many supported HC. If they keep saying it, give them more info and so on and so on. No more backing off. They aren’t prepared to have us fight back. They expect that we will be guilted (real word?) into agreeing with them. I am not a racist, but I could say some really nasty things about the racial attitudes of some of those BO people (who are mostly white). I won’t because I’m a lady (hee hee) and I want to talk about the real issues, not made up drama.

Three months after closing her presidential campaign, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton remains a major factor in the race. The big question is how many of her supporters in the Democratic primaries will transfer their enthusiasm or at least their votes to the party’s nominee, Sen. Barack Obama — especially now that Sen. John McCain is running with a woman, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, as No. 2 on the Republican ticket.
Pollster William Arnone, a former Clinton adviser, has found that many of the New York senator’s backers are still at risk of defecting to McCain. He surveyed 328 of Clinton’s “most fervent” supporters during the week of the GOP convention in St. Paul and found that 77 percent planned to vote for Obama, 11 percent back McCain, and the rest are either undecided or plan to stay home.
Last week, reporters following Clinton on the trail noted how little she criticized Palin, and one group of active Clinton backers even issued a press release defending Palin, saying she had been the victim of media smears because she is a woman.
“The very notion that Sarah Palin should not have accepted this nomination because she is a mother with demanding challenges underscores just how far we have to go,” said leaders of the group, called the WomenCount PAC, which was formed in May to rebut calls for Clinton to get out of the race.
Among those the group cited for smearing Palin were liberal radio host Ed Schultz, Washington Post columnist Sally Quinn and CNN correspondent John Roberts.
WomenCount founder Rosemary Camposano, a former Silicon Valley public relations executive, says the PAC isn’t planning to campaign for Obama and doesn’t even plan to endorse a candidate for president because of the “emotional” nature of the Democratic nominating campaign for many women.
“Our membership is very skewed in how they are going to go,” Camposano says. “By far most will remain loyal to the Democratic Party, but a lot of women feel the Democrats abandoned women and women’s issues. They are mad enough to abstain, write in Hillary Clinton or vote for McCain.”
The group includes a number of female business executives, including Susie Tompkins Buell, founder of the clothing label Esprit; Stacy Mason, a former Washington, D.C., newspaper editor and publisher; and Amy Rao, founder of the tech firm Integrated Archive Systems. And it is supporting a number of Democratic women running for Congress, among them Jeanne Shaheen, the former New Hampshire governor trying to unseat Republican Sen. John E. Sununu.
Camposano says WomenCount’s biggest campaign this fall will be titled “Stop the Silence on Sexism.” She won’t talk about details, but the group is still hopping mad at Howard Dean, the Democratic National Committee chairman, and at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for not doing more to defend Clinton from what Camposano calls “outright bashing.” Both party leaders, she said, were “incredibly disloyal.”
Meanwhile, another group of Clinton backers, calling themselves Democrats For Principle Before Party, has already bought space for a print ad in the battleground state of Michigan aimed at undermining Obama, and is pledging more to come. “Can the country trust a presidential candidate who is the product of a corrupt process?” asks the ad, which ran in the Lansing State Journal.
Heidi Li Feldman, a Georgetown University Law School professor who co-founded the group, ran ads in major Washington publications, including CQ Today, in advance of the Democrats’ Denver convention to pressure party leaders to give Clinton a vote at the convention. Ultimately party leaders acquiesced, but Feldman says Dean and the Obama campaign intimidated Clinton delegates and pressured the New York senator to release her supporters from their obligation to vote for her. The vote was short-circuited when Clinton called for Obama’s nomination by acclamation.
Feldman says she is now rallying support to have Clinton elevated to Senate majority leader next year, in place of Harry Reid of Nevada, and to have Dean removed as chairman of the DNC. All the energy the group put into winning Clinton a convention vote “is now going to be channeled into making sure the Democratic Party does not inherit such incompetent leadership as we have had to endure this election season,” she says. ###

The votes I worry about & that I think will be very significant are the college students voting on campuses around the U.S. From what I’ve read students came out during the primaries in large numbers for BO. I’m guessing it’s attractive to college students to vote for BO as a vote against the establishment.
Students are a block of votes that are not probably well-represented in the various polls and I suspect that if they were more included in the polls would probably be heavy BO. BO’s camp is doing heavy recruiting on the campuses to make sure that the students register to vote.

Two weeks ago, I was reading the Washington Post and an article from Professor Kennedy, (calling those not supporting Obama because he is black) got my ire.
He used Obama’s last resort talking point: the race card. This was my response, (I turned the table on him) I posted some of it here yesterday about Obama’s , but here goes:
“YOU are not supporting Obama for the content of his character.
If you were judging him for the content of his character, then how do you reconcile Obama’s:
1. Lack of experience: Obama’s record in the Illinois state senate was unremarkable. His voting over 100 times “present” not only shows his lack of a backbone on a stance but kowtowing to “business as usual” in the political arena. I know, I know, the Illinois politicians say that’s how it works there, but voting present is just a cowards way out of making a difficult decision. Obama spent just 143 days in the US Senate before announcing his run for POTUS. His time in the Senate is unremarkable just as in the state senate. I understand that some senators are annoyed because after months and sometimes years working hard to craft a Bill, Obama comes in at the last minute and adds his name to the Bill. As Chairman of a Foreign Relations subcommittee, Obama has not held one hearing or meeting. When asked by a reporter, Obama’s reply was “I’m too busy campaigning for President.” Is that what we pay him to do in Washington?
2. Questionable Relationships: Obama’s relationship to REZKO (known in Illinois as The Fixer and as Obama has called him many times as his Political Godfather). The Obama/Rezko relationship is more than Obama writing 5 letters for him as he has stated. Their friendship, yes, friendship (Obama had also called him many times his “friend”)goes back 20 years. Rezko is was Obama’s chief fundraiser. Rezko had ll slum buildings in Obama’s state senate district at the time. Obama had a “note-taker” at Rezko’s trial daily, for 3 months (confirmed by Obama, the note-taker to reporters). There’s more about Rezko, but let’s move on. AYERS. The Obama and Ayers relationship goes back to the 1980′s and possibly to the early 80′s. Obama is very concerned about this coming out because he has tried to stop ads showing their connection by filing a lawsuit for those ads to stop. Thou doth protest too much. Ayers appointed Obama as Chairman to school iniative group which was an arm of Ayers group. Ayers would hire and a guy(Obama), he does not know, who is few years out of law school, with a thin resume, to Chair a group responsible for dispensing millions of dollars for school iniatives? Obama holds his first fundraiser in 1995 in Ayres home. They serve on the Woods Fund handing out millions in grants, one to Obama’s boss Alison Davis for $1 million (Obama should have abstained from voting as another member did. Obama voted) Obama moved into Ayers neighborhood. When questioned of the Ayers ties Obama says their kids go to school together. Ayers kids are grown ups. Obama says he was only 8 when Ayers bombed the Pentagon and wreaked havoc on America as head of the Weather Underground. How old was Obama in the 1980s, in 1995, in 2001 when Ayers said in the NYT that he wished he had bombed more, in 2005 when he moved into Ayers neighborhood? While Obama was at Columbia his closest friends were Pakistanis. They are still his friends. They are in his campaign as “bundlers.” Obama went to Pakistan with one when he was 20 and may have used an Indonesian passport. (There is a lawsuit filed in US Court to determine this and whether he is really a native born American). Do you notice a pattern here of who Obama’s friends are? Even Valerie Jarrett who helps run Obama’s campaign and is Michelle’s boss at Univ of Chicago, is Iranian born. There’s more but let’s move on.
3. Obama’s (now legendary) flip-flopping: FISA bill, NAFTA, Public Campaign Financing, Town Meetings, Cuba embargo, Jerusalem, Iranian threat, gun control, the death penalty, Iraq timeline, off-shore drilling, tapping the US oil reserves, his Russia/Georgia position.
These are just some of the many reasons I will not be voting for Obama and I must assure you as somebody who has voted for black candidates many times it has nothing to do with the color of his skin. It is rather the lack of content of his character.”

I am a non-traditional full-time college student at a community college here in MD.
My take on the college vote is that it’s overblown. I believe the interest was due to academically lax summer months. The election will happen right around fall mid-terms and that will interfere with the voting turn out. Also, the fall semester is a new or repeat social blending time for new and current students – time to go out and party and mingle. I seriously doubt that they will choose voting over that. Their level of committment is just not that high. I can almost guarantee with certainty that the only reason many of them are ground troops is because of the pay and because they are not directly monitored for results. I’m sure they all have strong ideas and preferences, but are not involved enough in the political process to actually turn out at the polling place.

At work I always have college student helpers over the summer and none of them were BOites. In fact they felt his followers were sort of creepy/silly in their almost religious devotion. I hope I influenced many of them to check out PUMA.org daily to find interesting articles outside the MSM on the the election. But these kids are smart and they don’t need to be told to look at non MSM sources, it is part of their nature.

They are getting the mail in forms for their kids, making them fill it out, and taking the form and mailing it for them. I wonder how many are doing this, pressure from mom to make their kids vote for Obama? My 24 year old son has gotten quite an earful on the PUMA movement and at least considers the concept that Obama is not the holly One. I asked him if he would vote for him, he said he is not going to vote in the General. He then got an earful on how that is a right he should never take lightly, no matter who he chooses to vote for. I may try to tell him the truth about Obama’s corruption but I would never force him to vote for anyone.

A lot of these college students have student loans, how can they pay for their tuition this fall when banks are holding on to their money to stay afloat. We need more moderates in Congress from both sides of the party. We cannot allow ourselves to be continually hoodwink and bamboozled by politicians like Pelosi, Kerry, Rangel and others who are there in Congress to serve their selves and their own party instead of the people.
This could have been averted if Senate lead Congress pass the Senate Resolution John MCCain co-sponsored with Dole and Sununu. This problem has its roots in the 90′s during Clinton Administration when he removed regulation with Fannie Mae to make it accessible for people to get housing loan even if they have bad credit history. That’s the time subprime lending start growing like mushroom. Then democrats wrote regulations, the problem banking regulations they’ve written has too many loopholes, it was useless; too many regulations overlapping with each other which is to the advantage of scrupulous people in finance business.
A lot of people at this in haphazard fashion, they blame Bush right away. Actually its not his fault, the blame lies with our Legislative Branch of the Government – CONGRESS, but never Pelosi said right away “ don’t blame us“, Reid said, “ we don’t know what to do“. Solution of Democratic lead Congress? “They’re going on vacation starting September 26 and won’t be back in Congress until after November4. These people have just come back from their 5 WEEKS PAID VACATION, they’re having another vacation when they should be in Congress right now finding a solution to our financial problem. They’re like freaking rats, abandoning their own ship but EXPECT the American people to vote for them so they can stay in power and continue their stupidity!
I think McCain hurt himself this week with his comments and demeanor. He came across as not having a clue or viable solution.
It was all heated, possibly wreckless, rhetoric with no sense of understanding this situation. He also is now touting regulation when he’s been one of the biggest de-regulators in congress.

There has been some talk about ACORN both on the media and what I have read here on the blogs. Since it is getting down to brass tacks at this point, do you think a prowl *before* the election would keep the states on their toes about prevention, and/or initiating a checks and balances system. FOX News reported (I think it was John Fund) this a.m. that “provisional” voting, now legal in all states is going to pose a real problem.
Anyway, just wanted to throw the idea out there to see if we are interested in or capable of making a dent in a “we are watching campaign.”

#208 Anna7000. The browser is the program that shows you all the webpages. There are two popular ones: Internet Explorer and Firefox. You are most likely using one or the other. A plugin is a program that you download. It is usually an executable file that, when you doubleclick on it, will install itself on the browser. But, yeah, if your husband is around, he might be your best bet

The troublehsooting section itself will diagnose the problem and provide solutions, which might just be clicking on a link and downloading a program. Once the program is downloaded, doubleclicking on it will run and install it.

I believe both major parties have a wide variation in perspectives re: how far center or how far from the center party members are in terms of their political views and values. I’m pretty far left leaning. Can’t speak for Dem4hillary and agree that screaming and using accusatory expletives is totally uncool, however, in speaking for myself, I too find that some of the discourse feels like I could just as well be on a Republican or conservative blog if I didn’t know where I was. I tend to avoid getting involved in such discussions cause, for me, it leads nowhere (or leads to no good!). But, I felt I had to speak up here because I empathize with what I THINK Dem4hillary is picking up on and want to acknowledge she is not alone.

SARAH IS BEING VICIOUSLY SMEARED wide and far (through Viral Emails, etc) !!!
One of the things we’re up against, that may be affecting the polls in favor of BO, is the intense smear campaign that the Dems (esp the Liberals) are waging against Sarah Palin. I have received a few (I’ve lost count!) Viral Emails (mass-forwarded emails) and forwarded articles all with similar “lists” of negative false charges against Sarah. They’ve mainly come from my more Liberal contacts, but these anti-Palin Viral Emails have been circulating and spreading widely.
It’s like a hysteria going on! Even friends who I thought were very intelligent and objective seekers of the truth are sending me these emails smearing Palin that they’ve received and expressing how negative they feel about Sarah because of these charges (which they seem to take as fact).
There is a Website which brings out the truth about a lot of these charges and which debunks the falsehoods (they have a lot of things listed so it can be hard to find the more relevant ones). This is the website:

I tried to take out the points that speak to the falsehoods being circulated the most, added some notes of my own, and sent it to some of my friends which have sent me the Sarah-smearing emails. But my email correcting the falsehoods is kind of wordy… We need to create a more succinct email, setting straight her record and the false rumors and then sending off the email virally! (I will work on one myself!).
** These BO fanatics seem to very good at creating and spreading Viral Emails… Why don’t we do the same thing… we need to circulate anti-BO Viral Emails!, but not w/falsehoods like theirs, but with facts!

I was just surfing newspapers on the web and came across an article of voter registration in North Carolina.

The Democrats note their new voter registration in Cumberland County has increased, since January, 10% for Democrats, 3% for Republicans and ll% for Independents.
A Republican spokesman said if the demographics change in NC in this election, it because of the Independent voter increase.
I don’t think they realize that the reason for the increase in Independents (they call them Unaffiliated) is because of the disaffected Hillary supporters.
I know a group who went in July and changed to Independent from Democrat. These people are professional people who were life-long Democrats. One told me he felt liberated afterward. They had worked hard on Hillary’s campaign and are working hard now to defeat Obama.
If you combine from that county the 3% increase of Republicans plus the 11% increase in Unaffiliated, that’s a 14% increase in voters that are possibly not voting for Obama. Add to that, those Democrats that didn’t bother to change affiliation but who are not going to vote for Obama, we may be making inroads.
If this is going on nationwide, Obama will be defeated.
I suddenly feel a little better.

I have been a life long Democrat and great supporter of NOW. I am writing to you at this time to express my profound dismay regarding your enthusiastic endorsement of Barack Obama for President. You claim, as does he, that he will defend women’s rights, including equal pay for equal work. If so, I find it astonishing that he pays his female staffers 83 cents on the dollar as compared to his male staffers. In addition, only 1 of his top 5 advisors is female and only 7 of his top 20 are women. So, while his rhetoric might sound great, his own behavior towards women suggests he no great ally of ours.
If NOW has endorsed him, why not at least, use some leverage with his campaign and insist on equal pay for equal work starting with his own staff? Why not create some minimum standards and expectations before you sign on the dotted line?
I’m deeply disappointed to see this once great organization follow along like sheep.

I too have received these emails. I usually hit “respond to all” so that everyone on the huge mailing address gets my message — which goes something like this: “when you are sending emails intended to sully the name of a candidate, you might want to check snopes.com, or factorg.com (not that I think they aren’t in the tank), PalinRumors, to determine the veracity of the *facts* as set forward in your email. I include the link which includes the “truth.”
I really think our efforts should be focused on “truth” viral emails as well. Time is of the essence. I have no clue what our numbers are, but we all know a lot of people, who know a lot of people, etc.

Guess what? A polling opinion company just called me about the upcoming election. Wanted to know “do you sometimes vote Democrat, always vote Democrat, never vote Democrat,” etc. I said always. They asked about all of the upcoming races (down ticket, I’m in Oregon) but at the end they asked about the top of the ticket! Even though I still haven’t decided on top of the ticket (either a no vote or a McCain vote), I answered truthfully. Because I said:
“WELL, if someone put a gun to my head and said you HAVE to vote, I’d vote for McCain!” So they put down McCain. The woman was black but she was really friendly. I don’t think she likes Obama either!

I am a member of PUMApac and I am writing to tell you why, after years of being a CNN viewer, I have lost my confidence in your network’s ability to report the news objectively. During the Democratic Primary I watched with dismay as your network continued to promote the candidacy of Barack Obama – yet night after night, reported about the remarkable candidacy of our country’s first woman candidate as if it were a mere sidenote to the election.
Members of PUMApac are fully-informed voters, well aware of the fact that Senator Hillary Clinton won the popular vote in the primary (this is a fact you can verify yourself at thegreenpapers.com). Yet, in spite of the fact Clinton won the popular vote, the leaders of the DNC choose to pre-select Barack Obama to become the Party nominee. They did so even knowing full-well that caucus fraud was used by the Obama campaign, an unethical strategy deliberately planned and executed in order to steal the nomination away from the Party’s strongest, most qualified candidate.
Ms. Brown and Mr. Martin, there is a word for the actions of Obama and the DNC leadership and it’s called “corruption.”
Throughout the primaries Campbell Brown’s obvious bias for Barack Obama was both insulting to your viewers, and unprofessional. I also found Roland Martin’s promotion for Barack Obama during the primaries highly objectionable. I was especially offended with his ready willingness to overlook Obama when he played the race card against one of our country’s greatest civil rights champions and Presidents – Bill Clinton. I simply fail to understand how Martin can minimize the fact that Barack Obama sat in church for years listening to sermons based in black theology, yet not admit that this candidate is both racist and un-electable in this country in the year 2008.
Sadly, not only did you look the other way, Mr. Roland, you vilified the Clintons to millions of viewers with your remarks against them. Again, just one of hundreds of examples of CNN’s bias during the primaries.
Now that the primaries are over, your network – CNN – continues its pro-Obama and anti-McCain bias on a daily basis. Your network also routinely trivializes the views of women voters – especially women voters who have examined closely the remaining 2 presidential candidates and found that in terms of experience and working across party lines, John McCain is more of a centrist and has more positives in his column than Barack Obama.
Ms. Brown, isn’t it true in your recent interview with Lynn De Rothschild you tried to reduce her views about John McCain as being the superior candidates as “bitter?” That was wrong, and it again revealed the inability of CNN News to report objectively, or even require their reporters to do their pre-interview homework.
Like millions of voters, Rothschild has not been enamored by Obama’s speeches in front of fabricated Greek columns or his display of a mock presidential seal with his name on it. Had you, Ms. Brown, bothered to read Ms. Rothschild’s article in the Wall Street Journal you would’ve known she takes issue with Barack Obama’s elitist attitudes and his tendency towards self-absorption. These qualities are not desirable in a strong leader, and one need only look to George Bush’s presidency for confirmation.
As Ms. Rothschild so eloquently stated in her article: “In spite of Mr. Obama’s assertions that his campaign is about ‘you,’ much of his campaign is, in fact, all about him.”
Lastly, we would like to remind you that there is a world of difference between being a member of the elite – which Ms. Rothschild certainly is – and being a so-called “elitist,” i.e., someone who looks down their nose at others. We think Ms. Rothschild was correct in her parting words to you, Ms. Campbell: You can call Ms. Rothschild and millions of the rest of CNN’s viewers “bitter,” but as Rothschild said, “it doesn’t really advance the dialogue, Campbell.”
I’ll therefore be boycotting CNN News and am also attaching a list of some of the CNN advertisers that, as a consumer, I will go out of my way to avoid.

For those of you following Philip Berg’s lawsuit requesting BO to prove his citizenship and for Dean to prove that the DNC properly vetted BO, here is an email response to a question I asked on the 18th.
“In any lawsuit the Defendants are given time to Answer, they are entitled to be heard. Mr. Obama and the DNC’s Answers to the lawsuit are due on or before September 24, 2008. If they fail, then I will seek a Default against them and request the Injunction and Declaratory Relief I have asked for in the lawsuit.
No, the Court is not stalling the suit. All cases must follow the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. There are avenues if the Defendants fail to respond, answer or defend the action.
Nothing is signed by the Court until the Defendants and/or Plaintiffs have a chance to respond, which there is only so much time allowed for the responses. The lawsuit is 20 days, the Motions are typically 14 days. The Court will then typicall set the matter for a hearing or Conference, if a party has requested such. After said answers, if any, and a conference and/or hearing, the Judge then makes their rulings.

A database search conducted for this column by the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks campaign-finance issues, found that more than 20 spouses of prominent Washington lobbyists have donated to the Obama campaign…
The campaign accepts money from lobbyists registered in state capitals. It accepts money from partners at law firms that engage in lobbying. It accepts money from the C.E.O.’s, chairs, and officers of corporations, but not their lobbyists. Obama has received more than $627,000 in contributions from employees of Goldman Sachs, including, for example, $2,300 (the maximum contribution allowed) from the likes of managing director George Butcher. But Michael Berman, a registered lobbyist (and a former adviser to Walter Mondale), cannot give money to Obama because his firm, the Duberstein Group, has lobbied on behalf of Goldman Sachs on energy and tax issues. Aren’t such policies a little inconsistent with the ban? “Maybe,” said the senior Obama official. “But it’s important symbolism.”…
Even though the Obama campaign wouldn’t accept a check from the lobbyist personally, he says, Obama aides asked him to help them raise money in other ways. “They wanted my list,” the lobbyist says, referring to the many donors the lobbyist has solicited for other campaigns. “Since then, they’ve asked if I could organize fundraisers but said that I couldn’t donate.”
Lobbyists have found other ways to work for the campaign, despite the official ban. In May, it emerged that Francisco Pavia, a registered Washington lobbyist whose clients include the Puerto Rican government, was helping to run Obama’s efforts in Puerto Rico. The campaign insisted that he was merely a volunteer and not on staff, and thus not in violation of the campaign’s own rules. While he was helping the campaign, Pavia took no leave from the firm of Winston & Strawn. The Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call reported at the end of July that 42 registered lobbyists had donated to Obama’s campaign despite the ban; only two had their checks returned.
Meanwhile, it’s worth remembering that lobbying is actually a constitutionally protected right. The Constitution is pretty plain in declaring that “Congress shall make no law…abridging…the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.” That’s lobbying. It’s one thing for a campaign to decide that it doesn’t want, say, pharmaceutical lobbyists writing its proposals on Medicare’s funding of prescription drugs, but it’s another to ban lobbyists from participation in a campaign entirely. After all, lobbyists represent not only corporations but also all sorts of other groups, from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to the American Legion.

My son is home for the weekend. This morning we had the first civil conversation we have ever had about this election. A SERIES OF QUESTIONS TO USE WHEN SPEAKING ABOUT THE ELECTION WITH AN UNDECIDED VOTER OR AN OBAMA SUPPORTER
· Is it ok to nominate for President of the United States a man with virtually no experience on the national or international stage?
· Do you find that it is in line with your moral standards that we nominate someone who found it acceptable to remain an active member of a church that espoused not only hateful rhetoric, but which elevated Louis Farrakhan to great heights, Farrakhan having gone on record as thinking Hitler was a “great man”.
· Is it fine with you that we nominate an individual who has a history of associating himself with a coterie of criminals and/or terrorists?
· And, if the above is alright with you, is it also ok that the man we nominate minimizes or claims innocence about these relationships?
· Are you comfortable with nominating someone who has shifted their position on so many issues in such a short amount of time that it is unprecedented for a Presidential candidate?
· Can you ignore the fact that we nominate a person who, as a state senator, avoided controversial issues by voting “present” a disproportionately frequent number of times?
· Do you care if we nominate someone who, as a state senator, ignored the plight of impoverished individuals and families, most of whom were African American, living in deplorable, sub-standard housing conditions in his congressional district?
· Should the above be alright with you, is it also ok that the nominee would have befriended the very person who was the slumlord of those housing units, and that he should accept seed money from this now convicted criminal in order to kick start his campaign?
· Do you feel it shows integrity to make a commitment to an adored colleague and friend by the name of Alice Palmer and then break your word, obliterating her name from the ballot?
· Are you comfortable with a nominee who professes to stand for change while reversing his decision on crucial issues like FISA and off shore drilling, while also expressing a desire to expand Bush’s faith-based initiatives?
· Is it acceptable that a Presidential nominee who touts equal pay for equal work pays his female staffers 83 cents on the dollar as compared to his male staffers?
· And what of nominating a man for President who during a press conference after winning his senate seat, tells the press corps and the American public, that he will not run for President, citing lack of experience, who then proceeds to run for President?

I meant to get these numbers up sooner, but I have been greiving for a dear friend who died on Friday of a massive oil leak. She was 20 years old and had hundreds of thousands of miles on her.
If you just looked at the BO/DNC receipts, you would think that they brought in $90 million, but there were alot of transfers and more realistically it was $67.0 million total for BO/DNC (down from $78.6 in July). And that is the convention month. BO’s report of $67.5 million includes a transfer of $12 Million and is more realistically $55.5 Million.
This does not include any contributions recieved by the DNC Convention Committee Fund that reports quarterly. There is $18 million in “missing” transfers that may have gone there.
The net result on the BO/DNC cash on hand was -$.3 million. So they spent just a little more than they brought in.
This guy is just not the big money machine that they thought was going to be bringing in $100,000,000 per month.

Oh good. I’m glad things have calmed down somewhat. I didn’t want to interject earlier, but I’ll just reiterate that this is a NoBama site. I think that has been posted by Murphy on many occasions. I know I couldn’t get someone to vote for McCain or a third party candidate if I tried, so I don’t. We are united by our belief that BO corrupted the Democratic primaries and because we believe that needs to be addressed if we are to have a democratic country. Are the Republicans saints amongst sinners? I don’t think anyone would say that. People hold certain views and that’s their prerogative. We can debate issues without losing our focus.

The Clinton Debt
Hillary Clinton’s campaign listed $22.2 million in debt and $1.9 million in Cash on Hand for the August Closing. She transfered $6.5 million, that could not be used to pay her debt, I am guessing, to her Senate Fund. She returned $16.8 million in donations, similarly not usable.
The debt of $22.2 million would include the $13.4 million she has committed to pay so her debt is realistically around $8.8 million. She paid out $2.6 million in operating expenses but I do not know what she is still incurring. It appears to be several million per month. She also has a Friends of Hillary Fund that reports quarterly so I do not know what they have on hand. I do not know what fund handled the T-shirt contest either.
The thing that stands out is the stupidity of the BO supporters that did not pay off her debt. If they had, the Clinton donors who got refunds may have been willing to donate it back to him. Well, maybe they did or maybe they are saving it for 2012.

As we get nearer to the election, and as a reponse to the flyers, we are bound to have Obots coming here. It might be a good idea to appoint some additional PUMAs as thread monitors…people who have a lot of free time, to ensure that the discourse remains civil and focused on the mission: NOBAMA.
While no one is telling anyone how to vote, it must be obvious to everyone that a concentrated effort to squash any enthusiasm for the McCain/Palin ticket will have the effect of boosting Obama. It is obvious that only McCain can defeat Obama. That’s why “the other’s” filabustering looks so suspect. Yes, I did see it and read it. As you may know I’m bilingual (Spanish/Engl). It sounded pretty good to me. I live with someone who’s a professional translator and she read it and also thought it was good, but that there were some words/terms (maybe a couple?) which she felt were not standard Spanish but that maybe they’re OK if these terms are more used and understood among the Hispanic group that the flyer is more geared to (Mexican-Americans??)… I recall one of them was the term you used for “race” (as in “presidential race”).
Anyway, she’ll be back later, and if you want her input, she can offer it.

Not making excuses for the journalists from the land of my birth, but they are just reporting the results of a study that came out of Stanford (which has a great reputation in Britain)!
The more important question for us may be – will the electorate fall for it? I suspect that many will. I have not read the study yet but my husband was ranting and raving this morning about the poor design of the study which would obviously generate the desired result. He was fit to be tied so I guess I should go read it myself!
By the way I have been upset with the British press throughout this election process.

This is something, I think all of us know exactly what this is all about. Maybe because we are not easily persuaded by platitudes but we use “thinking” which is alien to some who literally fall for his platitudes non-stop. As we’ve all experienced threats, intimidation, racist remarks, mysogynism, we remain steadfast to our objective to defeat him. Many are angry or wondering why we’re not supporting NObama, maybe if they understand the principles of Democratic Process they’ll never ask that question.

True, Oprah had passed her potent wand over him, but even the afternoon regent of a thousand therapies has stays on her sorcery. Mainly, his was very much a candidacy constructed by those who were drawn to him. If there was any meaning to that fortune-cookie poeticism that “we are the ones we have been waiting for,” it was that his campaign was a feedback loop. People saw what they came to see. Mr. Obama was the slate; the crowds brought their own chalk.
This is the nature of Mr. Obama’s particular kind of charisma. People project their best wishes on him, they fill in the blank of a very attractive and plausible outline. His is not, emphatically, a charisma of deeds. For what has he done, save run for president? He is an accommodating vessel – cool, smart, biracial and “unfinished.” This is the Gatsby quality of him that others have noted. Like Gatsby, he is a receptacle of others’ glamorous invention.
People see in him, or wish to see, the last great ideal of the American polity fulfilled, a final and full racial accommodation. That should he be elected president, America will have achieved, by his singular persona, the perfect emblematic demonstration of having exorcised at last the great stain of its racially riven origins.
Mr. Obama’s charisma is, in this sense, external, something extended to the candidate. And it follows that that which is given may equally be taken away. The sparkle has, in fact, dimmed. He travels now in a lower orbit, closer to Earth – which is to say, he grows more mundane. The great word “hope” sounds less frequently now. He picks a running mate thick with the dust and rancour of many long years in Washington.
His acceptance speech in the Olympic-style stadium could not gather the inspirational energy of his earlier arias. Of late, the flash supernova of U.S. politics is seen “competing” with a second-on-the-ticket female governor of a remote state. There’s more than a gap between the “audacity of hope” and “lipstick on a pig.” The mouth that spoke the first phrase should not be capable of the second.
He has shrunk into a combative partisan. He crowds his own screen, leaves less space for projection. Others are not writing his narrative now – he’s inscribing his own.
A candidacy that leached so much of its energy and drive from the imagination of others, Gatsby-like, is shedding its gift. The narrative stage is over. It’s all tactics from here on in.

Palin draws crowd of 60,000 in The Villages

THE VILLAGES — Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin told wildly cheering, flag-waving, chanting supporters that John McCain is “the only great man in this race” and promised Sunday he will fix the nation’s economy if voters give the GOP four more years in the White House.
“He won’t say this, so I’ll say it for him,” the Alaska governor said in an almost confidential tone at the close of her first Florida stump speech. “There is only one man in this election who has ever really fought for you. John McCain wore the uniform of his country for 22 years — talk about tough.”
The Villages, a vast, upscale planned community north of Orlando, has about 70,000 mostly adult residents — many of them military retirees — who vote reliably Republican in statewide races. Tens of thousands inched along roads into the picturesque town square of the complex, where they stood in sweltering heat for about four hours as local GOP officials and a country band revved up the crowd.
“Sa-Rah! Sa-Rah!” they chanted at every mention of her name, applauding loudly and waiving tiny American flags that were distributed — along with free water bottles — by local volunteers. The fire chief estimated the crowd at 60,000.
Admiring throngs mobbed the Palin family’s arrival and departure, snapping souvenir pictures. Autograph seekers thrust campaign signs, caps with the McCain-Palin logo and copies of magazines with her face on their covers, and the Palins responded warmly.
Palin, her husband and three of their children arrived in Orlando but spent a family day at Disney World, she said as she introduced her entourage to the enthusiastic crowd. She joked about similarities and differences of the two states at opposite corners of America, but was all business when she focused on the need for a large voter turnout in a hotly contested state with 27 electoral votes.
Recent polls have given the McCain-Palin ticket a single-digit edge but Florida is clearly up for grabs. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., campaigned from Jacksonville to Miami late last week and the Democrats have mobilized a massive volunteer effort statewide. McCain, who led the Jan. 29 state primary with a big boost from popular Gov. Charlie Crist, has strong support in the vital I-4 corridor and across North Florida, where conservative southerners tend to register as Democrats but vote Republican in statewide races.
In a theme Palin would pound home, GOP Chairman Jim Greer Greer said Obama and his running mate, Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, have records of voting for higher taxes and have said on the campaign trail that they would increase regulation of financial markets.
“John MCain and I are going to take our case for reform to every voter in every background and every party, or no party at all,” said Palin. “We’re going to Washington to shake things up.”
She said “John McCain warned Congress that we needed to do something before these problems became a crisis,” but that Washington — including Obama and Biden — did not act for months as financial giants teetered and toppled.
“Americans are caught in kind of a perfect storm between high taxes, high gas prices, greed on Wall Street and a shortage of courage in Washington,” she said. “But we need new leadership in Washington — we need serious reform on Wall Street.”
Palin, whose son shipped out for Iraq this month, made a point of asking veterans and military members in the crowd to raise their hands for a round of applause.
Then she recalled that McCain took an early, unpopular stance in support of the Iraq troop surge, a policy shift now widely credited with stabilizing Iraq. “That’s the kind of man I want as commander in chief,” she shouted, as applause and whoops rose in the town square. “John McCain is the only great man in this race.”

Regarding your offer to collect contact info for conservative publications, I had an idea related to that:
Given that conservatives have a vested interest in ensuring that Obama does not steal this election, and given his campaign’s track record on integrity (or lack thereof) in this area, and given that the Dems are going to great lengths to ensure nothing occurs as happened back in 2000 to Gore with Florida and all (i.e. the Dems have a vendetta), I’d assume conservatives would want to do all they can just as PUMAs feel similarly motivated regarding potential election fraud. So, this is a long winded way of saying: Do you think it makes sense to urge those who frequent conservative media to become poll workers?
Related to that, do you think it makes sense to alert conservative media about the caucus fraud that occurred in order to further drive the point home that no one can afford to feel secure how about his election will go down and how we all need to do our part, in addition to voting, to make sure the election is honest and fair? Providing a link to Dr. Long’s site, along with a brief summary of what happened in caucus states, would be an easy way of doing it (http://www.lynettelong.com/caucusfraud/).
I’m not proposing organizing any of this because I’ve already got a lot on my plate at this moment, but wanted to share the thoughts with you.

What makes Sarah Palin appealing to the people, she’s authentic, she’s real, she doesn’t have to be anything different; she’s like a breath of fresh air. She doesn’t pander, she tells it as is, which a lot of people appreciate a lot. She talks a common language, no hifalutin words NObama always use to show his prowess of the English language, in a subtle way telling his listeners, “ I’m smarter than you, I know what is good for you” which doesn’t bode well with the people.

On Friday, I had 7 of my coworkers send off letters to Harper and Dion after I gave them the article to read. Luckily, they have a lot of respect for what I say to them, so they knew that when I was so ticked off with CBC that it was for a good reason. Plus two of them happen to be Sarah Palin fans and are still angry about the lipstick comments, and three have disabled children, the other two are strong supporters of women (these two are men).
Friday was a big day for me, I stepped outside my comfort zone and involved my coworkers and it felt great.

I support bailing out foreign banks, you may wonder why. Plain and simple, USA will own it and CONTROL it. In Banking you better have a control over another banking institution if you can get it for a bargain, that is once in a blue moon chance to do so. This is real economics, benefits for every taxpayers will be felt about 10 years from now. If you want to be on top of the food chain, you better learn real quick and recognize when opportunity is offered is right infront of you.

I remember when wallstreet crashed in the 80′s, guess what country hit a nosedive? JAPAN. Up to now Japan has not recovered. I am sure your coworkers, when they read that article by Heather Mallick were appalled also, and they probably respect you for your political stance.
What the DNC does to the highest of their(female) memberHRC, imagine what they would do to the least of their members.
It truly irks me when a woman attacks another woman, especially when Mrs Mallick has probably never even met Governor Sarah Palin.
Sarah Palin is relatively new to the greater public and her entrance on to the public stage was pretty impressive to me.

The China we saw on TV is not the real face of China. The media itself is owned by the Chinese Government. When I went to China with my friend to visit her Auntie, it was an “unforgettable” experience. We’re going to have lunch with her Aunt’s family….oh my! I went to their family kitchen (more or communal kitchen), he Aunt was cooking roaches, all wings were removed. I mean deep frying it! Then she cooked it again with chinese spices. I was hungry, but NOT that hungry. I told my friend I was full, I had chewing in my mouth. They have two TV sets but the channel are all government propaganda.
The real face of China will never be seen by people outside of China; its not a beautiful face.
The Olympics look real nice, the poor people were moved out of the city by the military since last year, taken to provinces foreigners will never visit.
