Howard Dean: Unfit to Lead

Howard Pilots the Swift Boat

We warned yesterday that the Obama Movement and the DONC were preparing to head for the low road. Less than a day later they’re well on their way down into the mud. They’re trying to raise money from Democrats to fund this little pipe bomb of malodorous gas under John McCain.

Remember, Democracy for America, the group begging for money to fuel up the Swift Boats, is the PAC founded by Howard Dean to put his 50-State Strategy into action. It’s what catapulted him into the driver’s seat at the DONC, and is now run by his brother Jim.

Oh, and it’s a pathetically lame attempt at swift-boating on top of everything else. The entire ad is boring, unpersuasive, and embarrassing. The talking-head guy has a sour-puss on and rushes through his innuendo-laden attack as if he’s ashamed to be where he is. He oughtta be.

And another thing. Back in 2006, John Kerry said, “I won’t stand for the Swift Boating of any candidate. Help me in fighting back!” Hmmm, wonder what he’ll have to say about Howard and Obama’s new ad. I hope you’re not holding your breath.

UPDATE: Riverdaughter reminds me of Anglachel’s article from late last night that is a MUST read. Basically, Anglachel is explaining in far more detail and with more background evidence what I was saying last month:

Oh, and the DONC still gets the willies when it gets in close contact with actual representatives of THE WORKING CLASS! EWWWW! I see poor people. YUCK! Why can’t they just go to the dentist for crying out loud? We don’t really have to associate with those freaks do we? (Great way to appeal to voters, Guys).

The thing about Republicans, as wrong as they are about pretty much everything, is that they are UNAPOLOGETICALLY BADASS about their base. They like Christy Todd Whitman and Carly Fiorina and Orrin Hatch, but they LOVE T. Boone Pickens, and Tom Delay, and now, Sarah Palin. Republicans are not embarrassed by the more kooky, less groomed wings of their party — the religious fanatics and gun nuts, the cowboy bizness men who thumb their noses at the law, the down-home shotgun ranch families with more children than dogs or more dogs than children, who can keep count — they LOVE them. They are proud of them and proud to be in the same political party with them.

I don’t think it’s a simple pander for votes (and even if it is, why the hell can’t the DONC learn to do this effectively??) I think a college drop-out like Karl Rove, who makes it all the way to the highest pedestal of power in the world, is absolutely flat-out tickled pink that half of his party is made up of people who have never been inside an Institute of Contemporary Art or an Ivy League library, but yet can still beat the political crap out of every lily-livered weakling in the Whole Foods parking lot. I think they LOVE that stuff.

The DONC, on the other hand? Love their base? Not so much.

The DONC hates their base. Hates, hates, hates us. Wishes we would all just go under a rock and pretend we don’t exist (except on Election Day when they try to shame and goad us into going to the polls for them). I argued then that the RNC is the exact opposite. They LOVE thei r base. Love, love, love them. From the hillbillies to the oil billionaires; the church ladies to the Carly Fiorina’s, the Republicans get all giddy and chest-thumpin’ PROUD when they’re all in the same room together. THAT’S WHY THEY WIN AND WE ALMOST ALWAYS LOSE. Riverdaughter is also a Must Read this morning.

Or, perhaps, Hillary is showing her true colors: she wants to be the center of attention. Just a thought.

The Jewish-American League (or whatever their name is) has come out and said they will not support Obama.

#7 justnotright on 09.17.08 at 10:09 am

I still think of Howard Dean as that crazy guy who shrieked like a strangled muppet during his failed presidential bid.

#8 stoney42 on 09.17.08 at 10:10 am

If Hillary and Sarah both appear at the rally, the msm will concentrate on them and not the purpose of the rally. Since the UN is in NY, I think Senator Clinton should have been invited. Gov. Palin was invited because she is running for VP. Palin should not have been included as a speaker at the rally.

#9 blondlady on 09.17.08 at 10:10 am

I was downstairs fiddling around, looked up and everybody was gone. So, I’ll say it again:

I just heard about Hillary pulling out of the UN Jewish rally supposedly because Sarah Palin was also invited. At first I was disappointed, but after a second cup of coffee, I saw the light. I think the Clinton’s know that this would anger many in the Jewish community and the response would be a jump to the McCain side. I read recently that BO has made good strides in recruiting the Jewish vote and this oughta check it. I don’t think the Clinton’s want BO to win any more than any of the PUMAs, but, they have party obligations that we don’t have. If we don’t see a trend of Jewish votes going to McCain, then I’ll go back to being disappointed and more.

scarlettpuma on 09.17.08 at 9:07 am Puma’s I just heard on Fox News that Hillary isn’t attending the Rally outside the UN Monday, because Sarah Palin is to be there. I think we should email Hillary to let her know how disappointed PUMA’s are in her!
***********************************

The reason for the cancellation coming from Hillary’s staffers (not Hill herself at this point) is that she was upset because she did not know Palin was also attanding and was unaware this was a “partisan” event. Huh?

With both Dems and Repub’s invited there, it would have been a BIPARTISAN event. It would have only been a partisan event if Hillary was the only one there. This is a private organization, and can invite whomever it wants.

Biden was not invited because he is in the bag for Iran. He has taken a load of contributions from groups linked to the regime in Iran, and has gone so far as to tell Jewish officials in Israel that they needed to get used to the idea of Iran having nukes.

I’ll withhold final judgment until we hear from Hill herself, but this looks incredibly BAD. It makes Hill look like a petulant child. And it makes her look like a partisan hack that refuses to be her glow dimmed by Sarah Palin. I was shocked to hear about this, and it will not bode well with voters, let alone Jewish voters, who support Israel and/or believe Iran is a serious threat to our security.

And it is just another example of the same old partisan bickering that drives people from both parties toward the independent column. How about putting your country before your party, for once?

#12 hillaryistheone on 09.17.08 at 10:12 am

Why shouldn’t our Country be JOINED in this effort…excuses, excuses, excuses!!!

#13 justnotright on 09.17.08 at 10:12 am

I can’t blame the organizers… they have to do what they have to do to get attention for their issues…

I don’t blame Hillary for backing out and I don’t blame Palin for accepting.

I do blame Obama and the DNC for putting Hillary in this general predicament she is now in.

“The turmoil in the capital markets is bad news and is forcing each candidate to reassess their current pronouncements on the economy. So, let’s ask some questions. Of the two candidates for President, who got the most money from the two financial giants now in the news–Lehman Brothers and AIG?

McCain received $117,500 from Lehman Bros.
Obama received $370,524 from Lehman Bros.

How about AIG?

John McCain got $36,875 from AIG
Barack Obama raked in $75,899 (+205%)

Got that? Barack Obama, the guy who supposedly is not beholden to special interests, took three times as much money from Lehman Brothers and more than twice as much from AIG.

Gee, and who did the now Government financed mortgage broker Fannie Mae give its money to when it wanted to influence a politician?

OpenSecrets lists the top three politicians in which FNMA “invested” from 1989 to 2008.

Top Recipients of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac Campaign Contributions, 1989-2008Name Office State Party Grand Total

Dodd, Christopher S CT D $165,400
Obama, Barack S IL D $126,349 ($6000 came from the PAC)
Kerry, John S MA D $111,000

What about McCain?

The folks at Fannie Mae didn’t show him a lot of love. According to Open Secrets:

McCain, John S AZ R $21,550 (all from individuals).

Oh yeah, and who tabbed the former head of Fannie Mae to head up his Vice Presidential search team? OBAMA, that’s who. Back in May Barack turned to Jim Johnson, former CEO of Fannie Mae.

When it came time for a tough decision who did Barack turn to? A former community organizer per chance? Hell no! He went with the inside the beltway uber lobbyist.”

Good morning PUMAs

I’m waiting today to see Lynn De Rotschild giving her press conference why she’s endorsing McCain and will campaign for him. Rotschild is not just an ordinary democrat, she’s a member of the DNC Committee. When she said, “I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him,” rings a bell in my head, its the same feeling I have against NObama. What does De Rotschild know about NObama the public doesn’t know? Why she feels she cannot trust him? A committee member of DNC endorsing McCain? That should make ANYONE thinking of voting for NObama think twice voting for him. something stinks here like a rotten fish the DNC and Democratic Party is not telling the American people about NObama.

What we know about NObama is what we’ve dig so far through our own research, and what the media and NObama is saying about his self and we’ve connected the dot. De Rotschild have her info about NObama from WITHIN the DNC committee itself as member of the said committee.

NObama supporters are calling her now racist, these people have just shown their own brand of racism.

Don’t be afraid to express your support for McCain, De Rotschild rise above those threats as I’m sure she’ve received a lot of them from the DNC.

#24 kat in your hat on 09.17.08 at 10:18 am

1gypsy4mc - See , the hive was in an itty bitty crack in a tree , and I recalled that bears will sttick a twig in the crack to get the honey , and justbefore i realized that i was , in fact , not a bear , I plunged my twig into the crack only to anger the entire hive …. They came out slowly at first , causing me to think , “Oh shit” and I casually started jogging across the 3 acres back to the house ,and swatting at them . then I turned and saw a black , angry mob swarming after me . they started stinging me and I started ripping off articles of clothing while my twin girls were running away laughing their asses off at me . Finally i was down to covering my privates with my bandana and running like a Special Olympics atlete(if I were only that good) with body parts flying in all different directions all the way back to the house ! So , the short answer is NO I did not get any freakin honey - until the next day when my neighbor sent a jar home with the girls with a message saying ,” This way is safer ” ……

Well, I’m happy to say that I’m a Wal-Mart shopper, i.e., whenever I can get a ride.

McCain leads 58% to 38% among those who regularly shop at Wal-Mart while Obama leads 61% to 36% among those who don’t frequent the retail giant. Overall, Obama leads among those who earn less than $40,000 a year while McCain leads among those with higher earnings. Among white voters, Obama has the edge only among those who earn less than $20,000 a year and his advantage among those lower income white voters is just four percentage points (see crosstabs).

#33 NewOrleansPuma on 09.17.08 at 10:27 am

Let;s see…both Obmbo and McCain did a joint appearance at the 9/11 remembrance ceremony, but Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton can not do that as a result of an invitation of the protest group? Why not?
In other words, only Hillary is allowed to protest in public the Iranian hate monger of Israel? Why?
A vice-presidential candidate can not accept an invitation from the protest group? Why not?
Hillary is not appearing because she does not want an occasion where she, the former female candidate for President is seen with the female candidate who by many accounts is drawing former supporters from the Democratic Party….This event became partisan when Hillary cancelled! I am not impressed by her move.

I want a President for the common people, one I can relate to, one who knows shopping in Walmart is not something to be ashame about but makes sense to stretch a dollar.

Do as you see fit. You have been nothing short of cranky and unhospitable toward me since my arrival here.

If you had bothered yourself to read my follow-ups, then you would be aware that I corrected myself when necessary. To say ALL I have stated has been wrong is an extremist view.

I come here and post mostly hopeful (if not helpful) comments). For example, this morning I tried to convey to Murphy not to take the death threats too seriously (previous thread). If such things are not welcome, please let me know.

My comment about the POSSIBLE reasoning behind Hillary refusing to show up to protest Iran’s nuclear aims alludes to a greater question: What’s more important here - supporting Hillary or defending voter rights from corruption? however you choose to look at it, Hillary has chosen to put party before country - the Obama party vs protesting Iran.

You don’t have to like me. Frankly, I don’t care for personalities like yours. You have sniped at me repeatedly. There are much better ways to make your objections known to me than posting such comments HERE.

I digress… and I’m out.

#67 DeepSouth on 09.17.08 at 10:49 am

I’m thinking Hillary had her people tell the Oblahblah campaign bots that this wouldn’t reflect well so that they would make the decision to pull her out.

This accomplishes 2 things for Hillary:

1. She can put the blame on him for cancelling the appearance

2. Obama suffers by losing even more of the Jewish vote

Bill and Hill despise this disgusting excuse of an “American”. I think this move was to hurt him.

Guess we’ll see how it plays out.

I am wondering about it too. IF PUMAPAC is contributing money making this film, and that money is coming from members of this organization, why they’re showing the said film during inauguration instead of BEFORE general election?

The film do NOT have an impact to enlighten voters about the truth after November 4. If the person doing this documentary independently, why is it PUMAPAC is contributing money to produce this film? IF our organization contributes money, the said film MUST be release to the public BEFORE November 4.

Murphy, would you please answer this.

Just wanted to let you know that there is a story about the puma movement in our local Toledo city paper.
A repoter that traveled to Denver for the convention was talking about the goings on there and reported about the puma’s at the msnbc tent. It was a pretty decent article, so if our little city paper is reporting on it, then other little city papers may be telling the story also.

The major paper here is the Toledo blade, city paper is an independent paper based out of downtown toledo.

See this is what doesn’t make sense to me what you just said how and why would she attack her when this has nothing to do with the election and it is about standing up for what is happening Iran and a protest.

Ok Texas Tigress you need to stop now or I am gonna have to keep a towel next to me….lmao

American Thinker
Canada Free Press
Real Clear Politics

RCP is always printing crap from sleaze writers, let’s give them something to run with!! We just need to back it up with FACTS!! If we can get one article printed, then maybe we can get more. Even if it is to direct them to the TRUTH!!

The amount of money needed or imagined to run for public office is one of the ongoing reasons why reform is needed in Congress re financing campaigns. And who …what candidate is interested in doing that? Why is our country ruled by millionaires? Why are we?
Because we, increasingly, have become the latter day peons of so called globalization, which is another word for a return to unbridled greed at the expense of country after country…certainly, this country included.
If this cannot be stopped or curtailed, our children and grandchildren will return to the sweat shops of old, just as other countries have. We are fast on our way to that horror. Obimbo is the yesman who will finish this off.

Huh? Why would she have to attack her? If I’m not mistaken, the event has always been a non-partisan event. I don’t think they were going to be on stage together. They were both scheduled to speak about a very inportant issue that effects ALL Americans, not just democrats.

I don’t see how not going is “taking the high road” and more importantly, I don’t see the jewish community seeing it that way either.

#85 outragedinmaryland on 09.17.08 at 11:01 am

#53 Headclunker

Why isn’t there an investigation into this story or more coverage by the MSM? Last night I was listening to conservative talk radio (not easy for me – a lifelong Dem) but they brought up a good point. Following the 1980 hostage crisis, there was an investigation into whether the Republicans interfered with that situation, asking Iran to delay the hostages’ release until after the election to make Carter look bad. There was no evidence, but the investigation went forward just because of the seriousness of the charge. Now, in the current situation, not only is the charge just as serious, but O even admitted to the story’s accuracy!!! This needs to be investigated!!!

On another note, I love Hillary. As a Jew though, I am disappointed in the fact that she will not be attending this rally. I feel like I need to hear directly from her as to whether it is true she will not attend and why.

UPDATE: Riverdaughter reminds me of Anglachel’s article from late last night that is a MUST read. Basically, Anglachel is explaining in far more detail and with more background evidence what I was saying last month:

I encourage you to do as I did and voice your displeasure by going to Senator Clinton’s site and sending her an email. You can further demand that she explain her decision publicly.

Excerpt:
‘ “24% of those who backed Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary now support John McCain, up from 14% on August 26.”

This statistic, buried deep within Quinnipiac University polling out of Florida is a reversal of the trend that we’ve been seeing all summer.

Donna Brazille in a Politico article.

She said that at times “Obama’s voice is strong and articulate, but people don’t feel attached to him, and they have got to feel attached to him. That would answer some racial aspects that simmer below the radar and sometimes percolate over the top.”

“He has had some moments where he seems unsure of his own voice,” Brazile said, “but I still think he can pull this off.”

And if he doesn’t?

“If he doesn’t, then Obama didn’t lose,” she said. “The country just wasn’t ready.”

Hey Donna, do you think it’s possible the country feels BO isn’t ready? If BO loses- it’s because the dem leadership and BO lost it. I guess Donna believes BO needn’t accept any responsibility for a loss in Nov.
She is an unbelievable jack@ss.

Wonderful idea! Group Puma voting on Nov. 4. There is definitely safety in numbers, and it would make it less potentially intimidating if you’re in one of those areas, to go to the polls that way.

In my small town here in Central PA, I really do not need to worry about that - I’m in the heart of Repug country. I believe there are probably 5 Dems in our rural county. Reason I know that is because when Big Dawg Clinton came to visit us during the primaries, all 5 of us from our county there in line together taking stock of our situation! Once inside I ended up chatting with a true blue repug who had utmost respect for Bill’s statesmanship abilities, had switched to dem to vote for Hillary, and stated emphatically that if John McCain did not win the election, he would feel quite content with Hillary being the POTUS, but that he’d never vote for Oblahblah. I asked him point blank if he was one of those El Rushbo Operation Chaos voters, he said no way. He just trusted the Clinton’s more then he’d ever trust Oblahblah, and that was his strategy by switching - if not McCain then NObama! Gotta love it.

Usually I send links of good articles to friends and family, but it is much easier to get them to read the article if I send the whole thing and not just the link. Is that a legal thing to do if I make sure that the author’s name is there and the name of the website, or do I have to ask the author’s permission?

Does anyone have an answer? Murphy?

In spite of what Babs and others think, Sarah Palin was not put on the ticket to court liberal Democrat women.

Palin was put on the ticket to accomplish two things:

1. To firm up and energize McCain’s support with 2 very important parts of the Republican base–the Evangelical Christians and the Pro-Life community.

The Evangelicals were not comfortable with Romney at all, a Romney VP nod would not have sent Evangelicals to the Obama ticket (because that’s not how voters behave) but instead would have made Evangelicals reluctant McCain supporters. Reluctant supporters don’t always make it to the polls. If the weather is bad, the baby is sick, or they get ‘busy’ they don’t vote. It’s not intentional behavior, but it’s what happens.

The Pro-Life wing of the GOP has grave concerns about McCain and embryonic stem cell testing, as well as his choice of potential Supreme Court judges. They are worried that McCain will put up one good nominee, who will get shot down by the Democrat-controlled Senate, and then McCain will nominate someone who can be confirmed, rather than continuing to force the Senate to reject excellent candidates.

Palin’s nomination gives the Pro-Life community the feeling that there will be someone with strong Pro-Life convictions whispering in McCain’s ear and helping to give him some backbone where those judicial nominations are concerned.

2. Excitement. If McCain hoped to step on Obama’s thunder, he had to name a running mate who would get people talking and just another white guy wasn’t going to do that.

McCain needed to secure his base and excite … he did both with a Palin pick. IF he gets some female democrat votes, … well, that’s icing on the cake. :-)

Just my 1/2 cent.

Nobama,,I was thinking that in some of these areas if we could have some puma’s & repubs standing outside of some of these places so that the elderly and others fealt safe to go in and out of polling places…we need to put people in the places that need it most!

While it is certainly true that there are some persons here in agreement that it was a bad idea for Hillary to bow out from speaking, there are many more of us that trust Hillary to do the right thing and will continue our unabashed support or her. It occurred to me that perhaps Hillary WANTED TO GIVE SARAH ALL THE ATTENTION.

Well, I think the Pumas have gotten the word out about the polls. The San Antonio office said they have had “many democrat and Independent folks” offering to help at the polls and with data!! They are not turning anyone away!! They need help with data entry bad!!

A request for a donation from the Democratic Party was preceded this morning by my listening to WTKK. My reply:

‘This is where Obama states that the American people are basically decent, just confused by listening to the ‘wrong’ radio stations and watching the ‘wrong’ television channels. And he will change all that for us, because only he can end our confusion.
I, for one, do not need or want someone else deciding which radio station to listen to and which television channel to watch.
And the fact that he refers to the American people as ‘THEY’ should make anyone wonder, who is HE?

#126TerryDo: I support Hillary Clinton. I do not support her support of Obama. I do not think it appropriate at all.
I understand this is not a new comment here and I do not want it to be a point of contention, etc.
I would concur with your statement that “I do not support her support of Obama”
However, unless one knows and understands why Hillary is supporting Obama then and only then can one state whether it is appropriate or non-appropriate.
That is just my humble opinion, of course.

From FOX: “Clinton bails on U.N. rally against Ahmadinejad after learning organizers invited GOP veep pick Sarah Palin.”

I can see where Ms. Clinton might have thought her and Palin together would have overshadowed the event. That said, Ms. Clinton should have honored her commitment.

#149 mick Agree but this is what I had an issue with Barbra S., she needs a PUMA education on her chosen one!

“I believe John McCain chose Gov. Palin because he truly believes that women who supported Hillary—an experienced, brilliant, life-long public servant–would vote for him because his Vice President has two x chromosomes. McCain’s selection of Governor Palin is a transparent and irresponsible decision all in the name of trying to win this election.” and

“This calculated, cynical ploy to pull away a small percentage of Hillary’s women voters from Barack Obama will not work. We are not that stupid!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

#152 - lilibet - I was thinking the same thing. Hillary also knows that if she is there with Palin, the media focus will be on the two women being together at the same venue, not on the event itself. Perhaps she is just trying to bring the focus back to the event??? Food for thought. IMHO.

The Democratic Party is UNFIT even to be majority in Congress. Fact of the matter is, the mind boggling collapse of Wallstreet has MORE to do with Democratic lead Congress than Bush itself. McCain supported a proposal in 2005 to oversee Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac; what the democrats in the senate had done? KILLED IT!

And now the Democrats are busy LYING to the American “don’t blame us.” The crash of our housing has MORE to do with the Democratic Party than the GOP. We all have to face the truth instead of acting blind what the Democrats in Congress are doing. Being hoodwinked by party loyalty is not the way to live.

She also asked for an update on political news because she had now way to hear what was going on. I told her as much as I could. She said it could be up to 3 more weeks without electricity. She said they were doing okay but she missed the internet. She said to tell everyone hello and that she missed us.

Perhaps I should clarify: It is not appropriate from my point of view relative to what I think she should have done in regard to him,who by her own campaign tactics and language revealed why the man is incompetent. Cetainly, you are right: no body knows why she felt for her it was appropriate. If and when that story ever is known, I know I won’t be around on the earth to hear it…but I still will be interested ! ..as each and every one of us will also,I am sure. And, by the way, Terrydo,
I don’t think your opinion is humble..I think it is …appropriate!!! Cheers to you.

Eleanor Roosevelt was not an elitist. Neither was Robert Kennedy. Many, many members of elite groups are NOT elitists — most pro athletes for example. Or, how about Bill Clinton?

Confirmed: Obama / Biden Demand that Iraq Not Negotiate w/Bush Admin on the Withdrawal of Troops
Washington Prowler
By The Prowler
Published 9/17/2008 12:08:47 AM

STANDING BY THE STORY
The Obama campaign spent more than five hours on Monday attempting to figure out the best refutation of the explosive New York Post report that quoted Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari as saying that Barack Obama during his July visit to Baghdad demanded that Iraq not negotiate with the Bush Administration on the withdrawal of American troops. Instead, he asked that they delay such negotiations until after the presidential handover at the end of January.

The three problems, according to campaign sources: The report was true, there were at least three other people in the room with Obama and Zebari to confirm the conversation, and there was concern that there were enough aggressive reporters based in Baghdad with the sources to confirm the conversation that to deny the comments would create a bigger problem.

Instead, Obama’s national security spokeswoman Wendy Morigi told reporters that Obama told the Iraqis that they should not rush through what she termed a “Strategic Framework Agreement” governing the future of U.S. forces until after President Bush left office. In other words, the Iraqis should not negotiate an American troop withdrawal.

According to a Senate staffer working for Sen. Joseph Biden, Biden himself got involved in the shaping of the statement. “The whole reason he’s on the ticket is the foreign policy insight,” explained the staffer………

Thought this was interesting. If no one has seen it!

#199 NewOrleansPuma on 09.17.08 at 12:38 pm

#18Murphy: Neither was FDR nor was John Kennedy. One can be a member of an elite group, mades so by money, status, power, or world view. An elitist, to my mind, is someone who either in reality or in their imagination holds that “apart” one, by that difference, has the right and obligation to hold anyone not of that group with disdain, and thus, with control over those disdained.
