I have a friend who lives in Colorado and she attended the Bonanza charade in Denver with the other 84,000. I asked her why she went, her answer surprised me. She said it’s a once in a lifetime event so why not go. She’s no supporting him, now I wonder how many others went there with the same thought.
Btw, she laughs at me because i can name the members of the DNC, lol see being a Puma has taught me something.

I am outraged that during this 2008 election our media has become so bias in their reporting, only following the directive goals of the corporations they work for, that they no longer report nor investigate the news for the American people.

Does our country have any real reporters still on the job or have they been replaced by actors that pretend to report the news? Are the American voters being led like lemmings to the edge of the Democratic cliff and will there be retribution from the rest of the world for us not standing up against corruption before it is too late?
Is there a real reporter like Bob Woodward or Carl Bernstein who is willing to risk their reputation and do the real research to make sure ‘Democracy’ in this election is just not a politically correct word for political corruption? How can the voters trust that their ONE vote has any real meaning when it is possible that the election can be manipulated by few that have the money to buy their way into the Whitehouse?
I challenge you as a reporter to read this article that is posted on the internet, possibly download it before it is scrubbed off of the internet, and check this person’s facts, there are many news article links to back up their article. I did not write this, I only wish I had a news reporter I could trust to find out and expose the truth of the information in this article.
This could be the smoking gun of this election.

In my town (Scottsdale) there was just a rather heated and contentious primary for mayor. It appears as if the incumbent did not quite make it but she is insisting on a run-off. They were looking at ballots where the choice for mayor was left blank and then interpreting how the voter would have voted based on that! (and this is a freaking primary!)
And we all remember Florida.
No way am I leaving my ballot blank and risking some idiot interpreting whom I “should” have selected.
Please carefully consider if that is what you want to do…

The primary driver for this grandmother is the level of dishonesty exhibited by the party founded (supposedly) on democracy. I don’t know how he was elected/selelcted but the research data shows he was funded by the same big bucks guy that financed nobo. A Chicago man I think.
I hae to see if I saved it but there is a large overseeing organization which has a bunch of these other organizations (like ACORN and factchecks. org) which are all inter-related. but you would never know because they want you to believe they are independent when they are clearly associated with nobo. As a side note, we, the tax payers pay for ACORN and they are suppose to be open to all but Obama’s group is the only one that use them this past year.

I went to the DNC website – wasn’t much there. Lots of hyping of BO.
I just thought if we hope to reform the DNC, we need to know how it works on the inside.
I joined the DNC in 1995 – but really never paid much attention to it.

Do you remember that slogan from the 60′s? I am very pro-life at heart, but as an issue I believe the government needs to run the government and keep their laws off my body.
I really liked Hillary Clinton’s position on the pro-life/pro-choice issue. I have never heard her pass a judgment, but she just asserts that it is not a choice for the government to make.
While Sarah Palin’s personal belief’s are obviously pro-life (as are mind), I have never heard her position on the governing of reproductive rights. Has anyone else, really? I would not be suprised if she is very progressive and similar to Clinton.
Usually the Rebublicans are pragmatic. Who is going to take care of all those babies? And if the mother’s are not given good prenatal care, the babies are going to be more expensive to care for.

Ultimately it does refer you to both candidates sites.
One thing I am concerned about is the increase in capital gains under O’s plan…..that will affect my retirement savings more than anything. Seems as if more lower to middle income will get somewhat of a bigger INCOME tax break with O’s plan but could be offset by other taxes. From what I can tell M’s plan is to move toward a flat tax. Lots of info out there but hard to get a good comparison.

I was in my own little world downstairs. Here’s my repost:
I usually come to this blog to check on how I can help in the efforts to keep Obama from getting into the White House. My main reasons are the DNC’s egregious acts , mysogyny, blatant vote stealing, caucus fraud, Obama’s inexperience and my belief he is seeking the Presidency for self ambition.
I don’t have time to read every blog so I am confused to what sort of bickering or personality clashes are going on. I am also confused on whether or not we can mention McCain or Palin’s name. It would be hard not to and continue this fight. I have never voted Republican, but I am willing to do so this year out of protest. I know there are a lot of people willing to vote for McCain and a lot that feel better for voting for a third Party. I ,too feel like leaving a ballot blank may lead to fraud, but I thought everyone here sort of accepted the three options on the table and each of us was working with that frame work.
I guess what I am asking, is it ok to refer to McCain as long as were not advocating his policies or campaigning for votes for him? Can we express how which one of the three ways we are approaching the vote as long as we are not asking others to do the same?

oh god that reminds me of a funny story, last summer I was driving along the lakeshore and came to a red light, this guy in his car beside me guns his engine and laughs. So, I had my window down and says to him as I gun my engine “hey, look at me I’m Mario Andretti”. He laughs and the light turns so jokingly I hit the gas. Wham, there’s a cop around the corner and she points her radar at me and crooks her finger for me to pull in.
I try to look all innocent and go “who me?”, lol she laughs and goes “yes, you”.
lol 40.00 fine for being 20 kms over the limit, but she was very nice and didn’t take any points off. She said she’d never had someone look so convincingly innocent before and yet laughing so hard at the same time.

Well, it was the first time I was ever caught speeding.
Usually insurance rates go up with a given number of violations. It will be removed from my driving record, and not reported to insurance co. if I attend traffic school (which I cando online, like I do with almost all of my life lately), in NYC they use a point system, so many points and they suspend or revoke your drivers license.

I wasn’t able to listen to the entire broadcast, but what I heard was fine. I have no problem with Gloria Allred voicing her support for Obama — this is a free country, last time I checked — and she has made a considered decision just like anyone else will for whatever candidate they want. I applaud and deeply appreciate Allred’s staunch support of Hillary right on through the convention and to now.
There is great value in having differing opinions expressed on Puma and I might get a bit concerned if we start squelching free expression by those who have been by many accounts heroic supporters of Hillary, whom we all love, respect, admire, and want to see as President someday soon.
And anyway, if we only listen to those who share our exact opinions and goals, we might stop learning how hard we need to work to be successful in this thing.

I have a suggestion. This is a “tall order” and requires cooperation from all members and leaders of the coalition.
The primary is over, the selected one is now the head of the Democratic Party. Hillary now is out of the picture for the real fight, that is democratic process. I know trip of our members was for media exposure, but have created a dent during convention? We haven’t.
Bear in mind, all PUMAs are now in the BIG LEAGUE, so start playing the game like a major player instead of a minor league.
The Democratic Party is a private organization, why is it during convention they’ve received $50 million from the federal government? The GOP received the same amount from the feds, that is OUR TAX MONEY.
There’s a recourse for redress and grievances. YOU as a citizen of this country CAN file a lawsuit against the DNC and the Democratic Party.
All leaders of the coalition MUST have a meeting, the case is to make it straight primary winner take all, primary election must be held in one day like general election. This is to prevent vote rigging and flying voters.
This can be done as CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT (Civl case) against the DNC and the Democratic Party. Of course this would require money, a lot of money, we would be going head to head with the powerful. IF all members within the coalition contribute money every month, you will be heard in the court of law. What is 10 or $20 a month as membership fee, that is a small amount, our democratic process goes hand in hand with democracy.
This is for Murphy and other leaders of the coalition MUST discuss seriously. We cannot have an impact making phone calls or sending emails to these people. Right now, the coalition is fragmented; the ONLY way it will succeed and change our primary election is to take it to court.
Put on your thinking cap and give your opinion.

It is fragmented due to the fact there’s no real objective ahead. The biggest objective is NOBAMA. That is minor, if you want to change the democratic process to get rid of corruption, you have to play the game of the big boys, head to head. Don’t tell me after general election, everyone will sit down or continue making phone calls or sending emails to so and so. Don’t you know in the real game of politics, those in power don’t give attention to that, they consider that a menace. When there’s ONE OBJECTIVE the coalition can ALL agree on and take the DNC and Democratic Party to court, you will get their attention. Among all organizations that comes out of the woodwork it was Denver Group, who made a name through advertisement, I don’t know if you’ve read what ACT BLUE had done, they were DELISTED. Now their members have to contribute money to their organization using paypal. Somebody’s string have been pulled, that’s what happen when you butthead with an influential organization, they can pull the rug under your feet.

Well, I do not want to push any candidate here as I agree with Murphy that we should not be doing any electioneering on this blog for any candidate. We are all going to vote for whomever we decide is best.
But really, when I heard Allred tonight — as one PUMA said earlier, Allred could not come up with ONE instance of Obama’s experience! One of the callers said, “He has no foreign relations experience”, and Allred didn’t even counter that charge! Because she COULDN’T!
So, that Ralph Nader post that you responded to will be my one and only post about my candidate’s experience versus anyone else’s. That will be my two cents worth of contribution to the discussion (if there is one) about Obama’s credentials. What a joke he is. And the joke’s on US.

#313 Asian….I haven’t completely thought this through, but I think this needs to be taken under consideration. Why? Because it is BIG. The money would be alot and that is where we would need the support of not only this PAC , but of all the groups who feel as we do. It is a tall order. So is democracy.
Here is what I fear though…Let’s say we go down the lawsuit route. I believe that we would still need to engage the PAC in a grassroots sort of way. I believe that people will want to be involved in the blog, prowls, etc. Like a campaign with its many components(phone calls, appearances, letters,internet), so must the PAC be. This keeps many people involved. A lawsuit would be the domain of a few on a day to day basis.
So, would the lawsuit limit our activities and this weaken the PAC because of the resources it would require ? Just my initial thoughts, but a lawsuit needs to be on the table.

Very much so, we will continue to engage and educate more people, this is a grassroots movement, we musn’t stop. While our contribution through monthly membership fee, us members will continue our work, getting in touch with people. That is the way to move forward, and we will court influential people to be on our side. We don’t endorse any politician, we are in the middle, standing up for the people.
I am seeing very clearly how this country has become so polarized. The blindness on both extreme sides of the spectrum is complete. The blinders that the people have on, both ultra right wing conservative and ultra left bank liberal, is astonishingly dark. How is our country ever supposed to survive and be a place of harmony and good will with everyone working for the common good?
Attacking a woman for her womanhood is wrong whether that person is a liberal or a conservative. Giving special privilege to one race over another is racism, whether it is done as affirmative action or as negative discrimination. Looking the other way while the news media castigate and pommel female candidates for no other reason than them being female is tragic.
I have tried to be a balanced and open person in my life in general. I don’t often see things in black and white, but in many shades of gray. Once in a while something happens to make me see things I didn’t really want to see. This election is one of them.
For the first time in my life I saw and felt the inadequacies of the Democratic party. It makes me sick. I saw the corruption of one particular candidate and decided to fight rather than accept. I find that other people whom I though were the good kind of liberal (that I try to be) would see that and understand it. Though they do seem to understand it, they think we are bad people for not going along so that the PARTY can get power. To give these corrupt people more power is to perpetuate the corruption and let it grow.

I am using your points to help me compose my next email-letter to a friend I’ve been communicating with. I’m trying to sway her away from voting for BO in Nov. She voted for Hillary in the primaries, but then moved to BO when HRC pulled out. I’ve written her great, persuasive letters, but she is hard to completely crack (though she seems more open now). She comes back with the old Liberal-Democrat talking points and anti-Republican stuff (similar to Gloria, though I didn’t hear the show).
In her latest communications she says things like, that behind Republicans are big, raping companies, global corporations and greedy energy moguls and that McCain has never stood up to them. That no matter how much McCain talks of reform, the Repub way is to support their lobbyists, etc.
That higher taxes (like in Canada) are fine because of the good things they fund (any comments about Canada, Trish?). And she also rips Palin’s pro-life stance, etc.
Anyway, this is the stuff I’m dealing with. I’m trying to convince a few ex-Hillary supporters (to vote NO-BO), but this friend I’m putting more energy into because she lives in a critical swing state (PA) and is a politically influential person in her circles.
Any suggestions anyone?
In addition CTKEY, that’s why I’ve suggested all leaders within the coalition must have a serious meeting. I think there are over 200 groups within the coalition. Lets say $10.00 monthly membership fee. A portion of that contribution will be set aside to pay for lawyer(s) to represent case of the coalition in court. While the rest of the contribution each group can use for their own purpose.

THE SCENE: BILL and HILLARY CLINTON’S bedroom at 3:00 a.m. It’s warm, welcoming and done in classic American Country style. Photos of friends and family cover every surface, and their various awards and commendations hang on the walls. BILL and HILLARY are asleep in bed. Both are wearing her black t-shirt with the white writing and pantsuit picture on it. Next to each CLINTON is a bedside table with a red phone on it. The phone is modern, with caller ID.
The red phone next to HILLARY’s side rings. Both CLINTONS sit up in bed immediately.
BILL: Yours, or mine?
HILLARY: Mine. (checks the caller ID) Oh, well well well. It’s DNC Headquarters in Chicago.
BILL (grinning devilishly): Heh. I’ve been waiting for this one. Put it on speaker, honey.
(HILLARY picks up the phone and hits the speaker button.)
HILLARY: Hello?
BARACK OBAMA (on the phone): Hey there, Hillary. Sorry to call you so late, but I’ve had a really hard time getting you on your cell lately.

HILLARY (leaning back into her pillow, starting to enjoy herself): Oh, really?
BARACK (even more uncomfortably): Yeah. Uh, see, it looks like Palin’s not the cream puff I thought she was. We went after her with everything we had for six days, and she just came out smelling like a rose. The conservative base loves her, and – and – she was MEAN to me, Hillary! (He is barely suppressing tears of frustration)
HILLARY (with malicious pleasure): All true, Barack. So, what do you want ME to do about it?
BARACK (suddenly angry): I want you to STOP HER! I want you to go out there and take that mooseburger eatin’, rifle-shootin’, baby-makin’ FEMALE DOWN!!!
(A slight pause. Then, HILLARY begins laughing. She laughs for a long time.)
HILLARY (finally calming down): Why in God’s name would I do that for you, Barack? What possible benefit would there be to me? Here’s an idea: Do it yourself. And stop calling me!
BARACK (to the others in the room): Guys, she said no. I told you she would! NOW what do I do?
PELOSI (who is there with BARACK): Don’t worry, Barack. Let ME talk to her.
BILL (chuckling): Oh, this is too good. They’re pulling out the big guns now!
PELOSI: Hillary, dear? It’s Nancy.
HILLARY: Yes, Nancy, what can I do for you?
PELOSI: Look, I understand why you would be reluctant to go after this woman. But we are prepared to offer you….compensation.
HILLARY: Oh, really? (She and BILL exchange knowing looks.)
PELOSI: Yes indeed. We see now what a horrible, horrible mistake we made picking Joe Biden instead of you for Vice President. We can remedy that any time you want, Hillary – even tomorrow, if you wish.
HILLARY: Ah. (enjoying their humiliation and prolonging it as long as possible) And Joe’s okay with this?
PELOSI (grimly): He will be, if he wants to keep being a Senator.
(HARRY REID joins the call.)
REID: Hillary, it’s Harry. I guarantee Joe’s on board.
HILLARY: Well, this is all very interesting. Let me think about it for a moment. (pauses a millisecond, looks at Bill, grinning) NO.
PELOSI: Hillary, what are you saying? You can’t desert your Party in its time of need!
HILLARY (happily): Bill, you want to explain it to them?
BILL: Absolutely. (BILL moves over to HILLARY’s side of the bed, so those on the phone can hear him more clearly) NO!!!
HILLARY (laughing): Ah, Bill, you kill me! No, seriously. Let’s lay it out for them. Here’s the problem, folks. You already made your choice. It sucked, if I may be so blunt. You should have allowed me to become the nominee and let Barack be VP. As Palin has so amply demonstrated, he is barely even qualified for that position.
BARACK: HEY!!! You guys aren’t going to let her get away with talking to me like that, are you?
PELOSI and REID: Shut up, Barack.
BILL: Yeah. And if Hillary wasn’t going to be the nominee, at LEAST she should have been Vice President. It would have been the smart thing to do, politically and emotionally. (starting to get angry and red in the face) But no, you just couldn’t do it, could you? You’re a bunch of self-serving, short-sighted idiots! Didn’t you realize how you were breaking the Party in two? Don’t you care at all about the future of our country?
(A stunned silence from the phone, while HILLARY looks at BILL with pride in her eyes.)
PELOSI (recovering, smoothly): Bill, you’re absolutely right. That’s what we’re trying to fix now. We get it, we really do. What do you say? Don’t you want to be back in the White House, as the husband of the first female Vice President?
HILLARY (patiently): Nancy, don’t you get it? IT’S TOO LATE. You’ve made your decision. If you change your mind now, it will just make Barack look even weaker and less decisive than he already does.
As for Sarah Palin, I respect her. I think she’s a strong, powerful woman. I don’t agree with her on the issues, of course, but I’m not going to stoop to sexist bullshit to try to stop her.
You’re on your own, kids. Lose this number and don’t call me till after McCain wins the election. By the way, I’m voting for him – and so is Bill. Buh-bye, now! (presses speaker button to hang up)
BILL (grinning): That was even better than I thought it would be. Great job, honey!
HILLARY (sighing and smiling): It was, wasn’t it? (looking devilishly at BILL) Now, how shall we celebrate this grand occasion?

I am with you, on June 1, I was pretty low… I could not believe my eyes and ears on May 31. June 2nd 3rd… on the 4th I sent in letter to Registrar of Voters to change to Unenrolled, no party affiliation. Over the next two weeks, I was reading MSM blogs and YOUTUBE video blogs, and seeing people thinking as I was about the events of the misogyny and attacks on Hillary, and the hijacking of democracy in the Democratic Party, and these wonderful PUMA were putting PUMA in their messages. Finally, on a YOUTUBE comment, someone who was exactly where I was on the matters posted PUMAPAC on their comment, I googled it, and came here and joined immediately. PUMAPAC gave me so much hope, I was NOT ALONE and I WAS NOT ALONE IN WANTING TO FIGHT THIS. At the time, in one of my early posts I said I was going to Johnny, because I felt the steamroller was full of gas and I did not see a good outcome at the convention. But I let that one go, as everyones hopes, mine included, were raised in regards to the possibility of this being made right in a roll call vote at Denver… PUMA is definitely viral, and we have to hang together, if we want to effect true righteous change to the process. I wish it was November 3 and I could go to the precinct and cast my protest vote.
God we will all be so miserable if the GE goes MO AND BO’s way… things have to work out to the good. If its four years of BO, then people will get slapped up side their heads for voting like that. God Help Us All…

Okay PUMAs let’s look at the big picture of this election, putting aside the corruption and party policies for a minute and look at what both parties have in common.
1. Neither candidate has any experience in economics.
2. Neither candidate has members in high places that are trustworthy.
3. Iraq wants the US out of their country, so the end is near for both even if some troupes are left in to watch over the situation.
4. Both candidates keep talking about energy independence yet both have ties to the oil companies.
5. Both candidates want to control women’s reproductive rights.
BO supports this theory because he did everything in his crooked past to prevent Hillary from winning and even becoming VP. The Democrats have used Roe vs Wade over women’s heads since the amedndment was first past. Palin may be a woman, but she is more of a pretty pawn that does not serve woman’s rights except as a female to puncture the glass ceiling.
One is more crooked than the other, that we know. One has no experience in anything needed as President.
Why are the polls still even, with all the flash and mirrors that have been tossed out, the millions of dollars that have been spent to persuade voters to come to their side.
Am I missing something here, could the missing people in the poll statistics be JUST PUMAs…or people that don’t know they are PUMAs but have the same gut feelings?

#337 Landipuma…My experience is that facts work best. You have a great start. Somewhere there is posted a list what Bobo did or didn’t do. The number of votes where he said present, how he voted on the issues(FISA), the number of flip flops (campaign money), his refusal of a re-vote on Florida/Michigan, he associations (Rev Wright).
One thing when you look at the veep spot. No matter what you think of Palin or Biden, Palin was a pick for the future. Young,talented. Biden has no political asprations beyond being a veep. He will retire. He’s 65 (?) He has been in Washington as long as anyone. A pick for the past.
As I see it, the voting booth is one of the loneliest places in the world. It’s just you and your vote. BoBo hasn’t earned it for me.

I have a high school classmate who was stationed in Alaska for his entire military career in the Air Force. He retired last year. He doesn’t talk much about it, not even to his mother, but he considered himself to be a very important line of first defense. He has said a number of times that he is located less than 30 minutes by missle from Russia.

This weekend has been a banner weekend for all of us here at PUMA.
We have started to reorganize with purpose and rational thought.
We learned that ANYONE in authority in the Democratic party is a sell out when it comes to breaking unity with the party. We saw it first with G. Ferraro, and now with Gloria Alread.
I think we all realize, deep down, that our differences with the DNC are so deep that they may never be reconciled. The specter of the corrupt shell of the party we all once called home is discouraging. But it is liberating too.
I think we need to do the hard thing and go on with the new party. Like in the movie Field of Dreams, if we build it, in time the people who agree with us and share our principles will come. This building up will not be fast, nor will it be easy. But it will be worth it.

HELP WANTED: REAL DELEGATE COUNT
It’s possible to get a precise count by counting each delegate in each state on the web site posted below. I want to get the numbers before the data is removed. It’s a tedious job. I was hoping to avoid it and put out an e-mail to a few folks in the grassroots movement to see if they had the numbers, but I’m coming up empty handed. Would anyone be willing to participate in dividing up the states and counting? If so, how about you repost this post and put your name next to the block of states you are willing to count. Then, post the total counts for Obama and Clinton once you have them on the blog with a heading:

Here is the reply that I received back when I sent the letter requesting the vote count.
I do not have access to the final tally from the Denver
Convention vote. The Secretary of the DNC has those for all states.
Apologies.
As you know, delegates are free to vote for whomever they choose when
they actually cast their ballot. Their pledge is not a binding
agreement, and some of our delegates (as was the case in other
states), chose to cast their votes differently than their pledge.
That is an individual decision and not made by the party.
Does that help answer the question? If not, let me know, and I’ll try
my best to give you as much information as I know.

Since I posted an earlier message that my heart was broken by seeing Allred, and yet relishing all of the days that I had thought her a hero, my thoughts have gone back, and back again, and it is almost like seeing something new. Allred is just like Obama. She has never been for anyone but her own self interest. All of those cases that I appreciated her adding her voice to, were probably just because it got her name in the news. She always had a different take on a situation, but it was all done for her image.
Sad to know the truth and should have realized it earlier. She will champion women’s causes only in so far as it helps her in the long run. Or at least that is the truth now, or she would not be 1000 percent behind Obama.
I can understand how people who had not been exposed to politics and elections etc. might fall into the Obama dream, but when I see someone like Hillary do it , then I am discouraged. When I see Allred follow suit, then I know it is a sham. Self interest is at the bottom of the barrel.
I have my own self interest in mind, and the interests of my kids and grandkids. Thank God some can see beyond their own lives and project the long term disaster of an Obama Presidental win.
We are almost right back at the time of the Declaration of Independence. So much has been written on top of it that the most basic of human rights are ignored. So many were not acknowledge after the document was written, and so much has had to be adjudicated since then. Now we have gone backwards in actual circumstances.
Neither Palin or McCain can overturn Roe v. Wade and it is being used as a terrorist tactic against voters. Who could have imagined that when the constitution was written.
Who could have imagined that so many who had to work to get a vote, would then give it away to fraud or let it be taken from them by fraud?
Obama is the biggest fraud to ever come into the political scene and he does it “in your face” style. He counts on voters feeling like they are racists if they do not vote for him.
I have often wondered how he came up on this “tool” to win. Well, I think it was his investment into a lot of rich people who wanted to make money off of the U.S. and socialist/communist/Marxist who want a voice. He’s black enough and white enough and socialist enough, and willing to not leave a footprint behind him while he makes his way to the biggest stage ever. He’s not too principled, but can pretend that he is, while courting any number of people who will adopt him. He is willing to charm his way into the Presidency and no one knows what will happen once he gets there. He is also willing to be a part of whatever tactics will get him where he wants to go and cover up the evidence.

An idea for action
I have mentioned this before… I think if we could find out how the Hillary delegates voted in those states that require them to give their vote to the person they were pledged to on the first roll call, then if anyone lives in that state, there may be some kind of complaint against that person for breaking the law. People need to learn that their lack of following the rules has repercussions. That kind of gossip will hit towns across those states pretty fast and maybe THEY will get the press and talk about the truth at the convention.

I have been reading through the posts and I was quite shocked to see that Gloria has drank the koolaid. I really thought that she would have stood up for Hillary after all of the shit that she had to endure during this pathetic excuse of a primary season. I can let you all know one thing from the 12 votes that are coming from my family, it will be a cold day in hell before *61 would get any votes from us!!
I have to say that using the Roe v. Wade argument as a scare tactic is getting quite old to try to coerce everyone to vote *61. I and my family are pro-life. We have always been and will never change. George Bush has been president for the past 8 years and he has done nothing to overturn R v. W. Why do the Dems want to threaten the “disgruntled Hillary supporters” that John McCain is suddenly going to go into office and change this on the first day? Sorry Gloria, Nancy, etc., etc., but there are other issues that are more of a threat to this nation and our ever so slipping economy. Right now, my family will be voting for McCain/Palin because as dangerous as this world is now, I have to depend on the candidate that I feel would be able to confront these other nations and actually know what they are doing. I know that my fight for Universal Healthcare will be put on hold for another term, but my family feels that this is the right thing to do to help save our country from a disaster if *61 were to be elected. Country before party! The DNC threw my vote away when this bs of a roll call was taken in Denver. It is bad enough that my state delegation didn’t fairly support Hillary when she won WV by 41%. They didn’t carry my voice to Denver. I attended my state delegate convention in June to ensure that we would select delegates that would fight to the very end for Hillary. By not getting to tell us what the roll call vote tally was for these delegates, I feel that they also let me down by not fighting for their constituents. I would have screamed and shouted from the rafters until someone would have heard me! Believe me, if you heard me yell, you would know what I mean. I feel that the voters were totally screwed over this election and it pisses me off that much more when I hear this “we will fall in line” bullsh*t. I have seen similar attacks on Gov. Palin as were done with Hillary. I will not put up with that! She has every right to be where she is! *61 should be careful before trying to attack her on the experience issue! He had better take a look at his own record before passing judgement on others! At least, the RNC is standing up for her, as the DNC just threw us all under the bus!

Here’s how I see it. “Even if” Obama is nothing more than a harmless & inexperienced guy with a knack for timing & drawing crowds, these whispers about terrorist ties are gonna take him down for sure. The GOP has _never_ been stupid about the DNC and the DNC _always_ underestimates them.

Obama didn’t draw a big crowd from nowhere. His crowds were predetermined by his long training in the Obama Camps. They had the instant crowd which would inspire others.
It’s an old trick used by religious groups. You have the people all ready in place to create the sense of an event, and the same people lead the others who are outside to a feeling of belonging.
Obama is a master, is how to build a throng of supporters even if only a few are real supporters. He creates an image and an event. It was the Germany crowd that really made this apparent. Rock bands, free beer and food, and instant crowd. In the U.S. he had the Obama camp kids at the ready. Obama is an image builder with no substance, which is why so many see him as an empty suit, or a Trojan Horse.

I am referring to getting this into papers from Seattle to Key West, from San Diego to Caribou Maine. Get this out there.

A PLAN THAT I CAN BELIEVE IN. Read on please.
On November 4th, Election Day, I will join millions of fellow Americans in “splitting” my vote. For President and Vice President, I will be voting for John McCain, and Sarah Palin. For congressional contests, both at the national level, and the state level, I will be voting for the Democratic Party nominee.
I am a strong supporter of the principals of the Democratic Party. We must continue to build up the strength of the Democratic majority in both the U.S. Senate, and House of Representatives.
Through this entire Presidential primary campaign journey, I was an avid supporter of Hillary Clinton. I felt she was the best qualified to be our next President. I was writing excellent material (as a volunteer) with excellent specifics in support of her candidacy for both on-line media, and print media all over the country, in whatever state was next to vote.
We came “close”. But, there was a flaw in the election process in that the voters who voted in Florida and Michigan did not have their votes counted, at the time of their vote. This allowed the non-elected “super-delegates” to come out of the woodwork, and follow the swooning masses in pledging their some 350-400 votes to Barack Obama. It was a close race to begin with, and the Hillary Clinton team couldn’t overcome that.
Also this primary election season should not have been race, but the Obama campaign brought that up. First, was early on in South Carolina, and then just recently when Mr. Obama reminded all Americans he didn’t look like all the other presidents on the dollar bills.
In my opinion, Mr. Obama can be a likable person, probably in the same way he once referred to Hillary Clinton in public, as “she’s likable enough”.
To my immediate subject, I have excerpted the flowing specific quotes from Mr. Obama’s recent acceptance speech on August 28th before 80,000 people in the Mile High Stadium in Denver, and that included an estimated 38 million viewers on TV, as he spoke between these two large grey styrofoam columns that came from “central staging” someplace.
From the speech: (A) “I will eliminate capital gains taxes for the small businesses and the start-ups that will create the high-wage, high-tech jobs of tomorrow”. (B) “I will cut taxes for 95 percent of all working families”. (C) “I will set a clear goal as president: in 10 years, we will finally end our dependence on oil from the Middle East”. (D) “I will tap our natural gas reserves, invest in clean coal technology, and find ways to safely harness nuclear power”. (E) “I’ll help our auto companies retool, so that the fuel-efficient cars of the future are built right here in America. I’ll make it easier for the American people to afford these new cars”. (F) “And I’ll invest $150 billion over the next decade in affordable, renewable sources of energy — wind power and solar power and the next generation of biofuels; an investment that will lead to new industries and 5 million new jobs that pay well and can’t ever be outsourced”. (G) “I’ll recruit an army of new teachers, and pay them higher salaries and give them more support”. (H) “Now is the time to help families with paid sick days and better family leave”. (I) “Now is the time to finally keep the promise of affordable, accessible health care for every single American. If you have health care, my plan will lower your premiums. If you don’t, you’ll be able to get the same kind of coverage that members of Congress give themselves”. (J) “Many of these plans will cost money, which is why I’ve laid out how I’ll pay for every dime — by closing corporate loopholes and tax havens that don’t help America grow”.
Does anyone believe that any President can do all this. I don’t.
John McCain and Sarah Palin have real plans for real people, plans and specifics that I can believe in. They are all detailed on their website of JohnMcCain.com. On the site, start with the headings of “The Economy”, “Health Care”, “Education”, and keep going.

thank you for that link. It is a very concise summary of what the Dem leadership did wrong and why it is not so strange for a pro-choice feminist to consider voting for the McCain-Palin ticket. I find it refreshing that the “passion,” as the writer put it, of McCain and Palin has been political reform. That Palin took on her party’s leader on corruption was gutsy. Sarah-cuda is a cool lady, I have to say.
I am still voting for Nader, but I respect the McCain-Palin ticket. Nader’s vp choice is a pretty impressive Texan with a Latino background whose passion seems to be election reform. Interestingly, Nader’s candidacy is drawing from both Republican and Democratic votes.

Don’t worry, prowlland. I have not listened to it, but I cannot imagine after everything Murphy has said that she is voting Obama. She was probably just trying to be a polite host on her radio program. Gloria Allred was talking over her, from what people blogged during the program, which I did not try to listen to after I read comments about Gloria.

Regarding Allred – In spite of Murphy’s attempt to be charitable and give the woman a benefit of a doubt–she has always been a shark. She attaches herself to high-profile cases, claiming the righteous path, but in the end it is always about making money for herself. I’ve never trusted her since the OJ Simpson days when she latched onto the victim’s family.
I think we all are having a real hard time with our discovery of just how corrupt the democratic party is. The beautiful curtain has been pulled aside, and we are shocked at what a mess we found.
I am of the opinion that this cannot change. Hillary learned one major truth: Either go along or get out. Maybe we learned that too. We got out, she stayed in. I don’t know what that says about us and her, but maybe we need to wait and see for a while. I am disappointed that she didn’t take a stronger stand, but maybe she is biding her time and trying to fix things in her own way.
There was a time when this country had a variety of political parties. Then two became so powerful that they squeezed everyone else out. They got control of the state and federal legislatures and made laws governing elections that favored them, the dishonorable two, over an above all others. Third parties that have risen up in the mean time have all done so with just one candidate/personality at the top. They never last.
It is time for a third party to rise up and change this. It is time for us to walk out of the shadows and start building an organization that will eventually morph into a place where the dissatisfied and discontented people who would like to reject the other two major parties can come and have a home. If we build it, they will come. Hopefully, they will come from both parties. I hope the good ones come, we will have to make sure the corrupt ones are not welcome.
I think, if we all see this as a goal, we can have our new party be a viable and competitive force within a decade. For some of us this sounds like too long. But we have to start somewhere, don’t we? We cannot go on with the status quo. Our consciences will not let us.

Henrietta – great comments. I keep thinking back to our original founding “fathers” and the Constitution. No where in that Constitution does it say there has to be only two main political parties. Political parties were an evolution from a starting point in time. This is fluid. How arrogant of either party to believe there could only be two?
I agree, we have now seen that the Democratic Party many of us associated with the real-in-the-streets-people is scarred and marred with foul, greedy politicians.

I confess to deep disappointment in my heroine for playing along. I wanted her to fight at the convention. That would have shown her people she was still fighting for them. It was devastating, but out of devastation comes new growth.
I may be wrong, but I know this election knocked me off the balance beam. The Democratic Party stole my votes and is supporting an extremely unqualified person to be the leader of our country–all for an image, fanfare, “Cue the music….”

Your interview with Murphy was certainly eloquent, fluid, well voiced and so very well scripted. You spoke as if you have been singing this song for a long time. Thus, I am curious. What is your agenda and motive? Frankly, I don’t see it as for the best interest of the American voice. This scripted and secretly planned campaign is not my agenda, not my voice nor is it any voter’s voice and it will not go unnoticed.
Here’s what I will say to you, the media, the DNC and last but not least Barrack Hussein Obama. (Sorry Murphy. I will include his middle name as in the past I have been respectful, but he has not shown or returned any respect to me or the voters):
You have all breached your code of ethics and now you expect me to accept that? I don’t think so.
I can not and I will not go against my personal values and integrity, I can not and will not cast a vote for an individual who refuses to explain his rather obvious history of carrying questionable beliefs, values and ideologies that are potentially a dire threat to the very core of our American democracy.
I am not your puppet. I am not your servant. I am not one of your imbecile BOTS. You will not seduce or brainwash me. I keep having this fantasy that Hillary and many others in the current party will leave. In their leaving, it will become a hollow shell, only made up of the corrupt and dishonest ones.
What I fantasize about the most is a moderate party that welcomes good quality thinking candidates with character to work together and take the country into a stable and productive time. Am I just dreaming, or could we, PUMAs, make it a reality? I think we could.
I will never go back to accepting the DNC as my political organization. My conscience won’t let me. But I can’t support the other side because of their policies. We have to make the new party a reality. Our survival as a nation depends on it.

1gypsy4mc – the question that generally brought us to Medicare was about what O would change as president, and he mentioned that there were some programs that just weren’t working. He also said that he would do things that people in his party would not agree with, that people on the left would dislike. He did not say he would eliminate medicare, but he did say that it was “not working,” both the way it was funded (danger sign) as well as what I call “oversight” – he put it as, how do we know the service is needed, can we reevaluate this to increase quality?
The tort reformers always act as if they are going to “increase quality.” That is completely bogus. People who talk about reform of this nature are IN BED WITH INSURANCE COMPANIES

My big concern is that because of this confidence they have maintained for some time now, they are counting on their Get Out the Vote campaign to bring in huge numbers of voters for BO. They are paying young people everywhere to shake down the shrubbery and find those who haven’t registered. There’s no telling what kinds of promises have been made to newly registered voters if they will come out and vote.
I really agree that PUMA’s actions in the next weeks should include voter registration tactics. We already know they think nothing of outright fraud.
Christine RI – I agree. Perhaps I was misunderstood. I meant that (because of what Geraldine Ferraro said the other day about voting for policy) I don’t have to vote for a particular party because of their policies even though I may dislike the candidate.
A new party should have the best of both. Of course, one votes for a candidate who represents their philosophy–for the most part. There are areas in both parties that one can respectfully disagree with, but on the whole, endorse others. I see areas of agreement in both parties at this time. I see positions I disagree with in both.
But for now—until we can resurrect some sanity and justice, I’m saying I must do something bold to overthrow what I perceive as deeply corrupt.

Lin4Hill – I like the voter registration idea. I also think we can talk to people about being “good democrats” without voting for O. He does not stand for the principles that are so important to the classic Democrat, but Nader and Gonzalez appear to be a good choice. Also, McCain-Palin is an option for the centrist Democrats who don’t mind crossing the aisle.
In other words, if you are talking to a Centrist Democrat, you can probably reassure them about McCain Palin, and if you are talking to a Left Democrat, you can illustrate how O betrayed this group and how this group can vote their values by choosing Nader Gonzalez.

Yes- I am a teacher, but in Alabama. My union originally endorsed Hillary, but has now unfortunately given its support to BO. I am very disappointed in this, as Hillary was more outspoken about washing NCLB down the drain and starting fresh. I don’t think BO has realized how punitive the NCLB Act is on schools. All we do is test, test, and teach the test, and are given thousands of workshops to help us teach the test. It’s sickening. And not fun.

I hear you re. NCLB! My concern is with vouchers and merit pay too, and with unions so strong, particularly in CA. Even tho’ I will never vote Obama, and I will vote McCain in protest. Okay – one more re: teachers. Yes, there are idiots with teaching degrees who need to be booted to the curb. And there are principals as well. Lots of them.
But merit pay sets up horrible anxiety within the ranks of teachers. Right now I have a class with 5 learning disabled kids who are no where near reading on their grade level. Half of the class doesn’t comprehend basic math facts, and it’s fourth grade!!!! But my coworkers have a different combination of kids and have some enrichment kids, with only one or two who are struggling. Factor in the instrument by which they judge teachers (publishers’ testing materials linked to their products) and the built in bias of standardized testing, and you are simply NOT going to get a fair representation of what an individual teacher is capable of. I’ve had bad years with gang kids in the room, and good years with sweethearts. Would I have been fired the year I had the gang kids because my scores went down?
It’s a big can of worms, so I won’t expound too much on it now, but BO doesn’t understand the classroom and the public school system if he suggests merit pay.
We should get a bonus for showing up! (That’s what I feel sometimes.)

My granddaughter had a speech difficulty (phonics) when she was younger – the shool wanted to keep her in a different class (slower learning) – until one teacher finally spoke up and was able to help her in a speech learning class. My granddaughter is an A/B (mostly As) student and always excels and speaks perfectly now. You may have heard of this speech problem – she would drop the ending consonants and put them at the beginning of the next word. I don’t know what it’s called.

I am the mother of a learning disabled student. We had to take her out of school and home school her inside a private program set up by experts that we hired. What we found in the school was appalling.
Teachers were expected to do the impossible. They didn’t have the time or resources, and most times the training, to deal with all that was heaped upon them. The system of taking care of the students’ various needs was so convoluted that nobody could have done a good job.

My daughter thrived in our program, and is now a senior in college, and has made the Deans list repeatedly throughout her college career. We were told that she would probably never be able to perform at even high school level by the school’s outdated pundits.
I have some radical ideas about education that most would never even dream existed. But those ideas work. The pundits in DC are full of it, as are the local school boards. Nothing that I have heard any of them spout would have fixed the problems we faced as parents with our kid.

Since the introduction of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s V.P. pick, I have been inundated with emails from “Women’s Groups” insinuating that Sarah Palin is a grave danger to the future of women. How can they do this with a straight face? The opportunity for a competent woman with executive experience to be nominated for the vice-presidency is something we should all be proud of. Yes, she may have different ideolgies than liberal Democrats. But she will not create legislation. That is the job of the U.S. Congress, and after nearly eight years of trough-slopping on the hill, it is time for them quit finger-pointing and get to work.
When Hillary gave her historic speech at the U.N. Conference on Women in Beijing and said “women’s rights are human rights”, she wasn’t just talking about liberal women. She was also speaking for all women at the U.N. in June of 2000 when she said: “When women in some countries are still denied the right to vote, our work is far from done.
And when women’s work is still not valued, by economists, by governments, and by employers who pay them less and treat them worse, our work is far from done.”
It’s possible that Hillary may not like Governor Palin. She certainly posseses a more conservative ideology than Hillary and most of her supporters. Still, the joy and excitement in the faces of women at the GOP convention was beautiful. Hillary’s historic race has inched women a little closer to a true experience of gender equality in their government. That is a very good thing.
June 3rd was certainly a dark day for many of us, but in retrospect Hillary’s loss is turning into a step forward for women – ALL WOMEN. We must remember to support and respect each other. We must refrain from tearing each other down because we have different views on certain aspects of what what it means to be a woman. I hope Hillary is proud of her accomplishment — and Sarah’s too.
ACTION ITEM Please contact Hillary Clinton and let her know that you do not want to see her jump into a media mud-wrestling contest with Sarah Palin as has been suggested by so many Obama loyalists. This would be offensive on so many levels and will add nothing positive to the debate. A backlash against her would certainly ensue. Please encourage Hillary to keep comments relevant to McCain’s policies only. After all, he is the one running for President.

Ok I just can’t keep my mouth shut. Regarding government health care. My Mom had a stroke May 5, 2008 she lost her ability to speak or eat and died June 3 after refusing all medication and nutrition for four days (she was in a great mood those last 4 days). She was still completely with it and would sit and work jumble puzzles until the day before her death. She was 89 and she wrote note after note saying she was ready, her husband of 65 years had been dead 2 years, all her friends were dead, all her bridge partners were dead, she could no longer live alone and she refused to live with her kids. But because she was on Medicare with supplemental coverage she kept having procedure after procedure including being treated for “depression”. Keeping her alive was good business. We could not sit by the bed 24/7 but she had at least one family member bed side each day. We had a phone tree and called her info to the family members and interacted with the staff often. Still they took her down and did some procedure to see if she needed her neck arteries cleaned out, she had 5 feeding tubes put down her nose and she pulled all 5 out. There were many other procedures which I am sure let them get Medicare payments. But none of this was relevant to what she wanted. She should have been placed in hospice within days of her stroke. Finally with all the coverage we pulled her out, paid $8,000. cash up front and put her in the only place we could find one hour drive from her closest relative and started private hospice. Everyone else had a problem with this because it was the weekend and a holiday weekend at that plus there was some noise about trying to kill our mother. The entire experience was a colossal cluster f#$! of competing interests working under government regulations and for government payments. Health care needs to be available to all but NOT run by government or any bureaucracy. Unless you want to be treated by procedure A according to government regulation XYZ as developed by the federal committee for the equalized promotion of our opinion of what you need. Thank God my Mom now rests in peace free of medical interference and torture.
Fox started to ask HARD questions. Don’t know the commentator was, also 2 panelists. The FOX guy is really challenging what happened with Obama when he was at Columbia? Kept saying they were lost years and since nobo refuses to let those records be released it appears he IS trying to hide something. The Fox guy said they were looking into all of Palin’s educational background why won’t nobo just squash any questions by the public.
Finally, one msm is asking the hard, missed questions since early on in the campaign. Princess is fading.

why merit pay does not work!
I am a retired teacher in north carolina. We have had merit pay in place many years now. It does not work.
First, it is decided by whole school’s acheivements, not individual teachers. So you can actually have a 4th grade teacher (just an example) whose classe makes huge gains on test scores, but the overall school does poorly. She/he does not get merit pay for their hard, unnoticed success.
Secondly, it does create workshops to teach to the test.
They are boring and you learn nothing by test taking skills.
Thirdly, If you say get a 1500 dollar bonus check, you only get 750 if you are luck after taxes. whoopeeeeee

#640 McCain hasn’t been too clear on health care. He says we need to make it affordable and available to all, which sounds hopeful to me. He has gotten in the face of special interests often and so I think he can accomplish this but I would like further explanation of his goals. One thing is sure when old people who have lived great lives say they are done they do not need treatment for depression and surgery to clear their neck arteries, they should be made comfortable until nature takes it’s course.

I applaud you as you are the one who carried the deepest respect and love for your mother. I did similar when my mom needed to go to hospice rather than being dragged on for essentially nil benefit. She was ready and it was hard to accept. However, my sister and I both agreed to honor her, thus the hospital and doctors had to comply with us all.

The following is completely off topic. I heard last night that relief charities (Red Cross, Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, etc.) are hurting for donations due to all the natural disasters that occurred this year–tornadoes, flooding, hurricanes, fires. If you have a few extra dollars please consider donating to the one of your choice. When I was in high school, our town was hit by a tornado and I remember the Salvation Army giving us food and drink as we were clearing debris from a farmer’s field.
Democrats are using the abortion (women’s right) card just as George Bush used the terrorists attacking this country card. No big difference as far as I’m concerned. #646 Well I do not think they listened to her or cared what she wanted. They kept putting those nose tubes in her and when she would wake up from the sedation she would pull them out repeatedly. Also most people who say they are done are not depressed. It seems to me like they were waiting for us to leave so they could do a procedure to get a payment. We did find a great hospice center, you had to pay up front but possibly that is because they knew we could pay up front.

I always believe that if you have the government and the institutions dictate what you need to do in terms of your personal health and when it is a dole out then it sure is not on your side of the court. September 7, 2008John McCain has moved ahead of Barack Obama in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking, 48% to 45%, following last week’s Republican convention.
I am a 53 year old African American woman who voted for Hillary in the primary and will not be voting for Obama in November. I live in northern Virginia. I don’t post often – only when I feel really strongly about sharing my opinion. This will be long – I apologize but one of the great things about these blogs is that we are all able to say what we need to say to a wider audience than our own family & friends.
I heard on MSNBC this morning (around 11:40am EST) someone saying that the Dems are not worried about Clinton Democrats because all the polls show they will get behind Obama. That caused me to pause and wonder how that could be? Then it occurred to me that those Dems who rely on ONLY television for their political news (and are not regular Internet users or do not listen to talk radio) – those Dems are NOT hearing that they have options. They do NOT know or understand the underhanded methods that the DNC (especially Pelosi & Dean) have practiced during the primaries & the convention.
All they are hearing are the Dem pundits on the tv news programs saying the same old party-line jibber-jabber.
The way I see it, the only voices being heard on tv news are the actual news commentators / moderators and those pundits who speak for the DNC and those pundits who speak for the RNC. We know that the DNC pundits (and most of the mainstream media) will NEVER present the story as PUMAS see it and they will never make the case for why Obama is NOT the way to go.
However, if we get very serious about focusing on the media & pundits that lean FOR the RNC – we might begin to give them the words to make our case for us in the media – and especially through outlets that might reach those Clinton Dems who are ONLY relying on tv news for their political information sources.
I understand that it may make us feel better to send off letters & emails to those media who are clearly 100% behind Obama (especially those at MSNBC) – but the truth is that we are not going to change their minds. And they are probably NEVER going to report what we are writing to them.
Instead – I on the other hand – have started targeting most of my comments and opinions to those media who I believe might actually be open to arguments for why Hillary Dems are interested in supporting McCain or a 3rd party and NOT supporting Obama. If we can write our comments in a way that explains to those RNC pundits WHY Hillary Dems would be willing to vote McCain – there is a chance those comments will be considered and repeated on mainstream media.
The DNC machine keeps saying over and over on all the tv news shows that Hillary Dems will NEVER vote for anyone BUT Obama because of specific social issues (Roe vs Wade, abortion rights, gay marriage, etc). And so those Hillary Dems who rely on tv news are influenced when they hear that. However we have to get the other side of the story into those media conversations by providing the “meat” of the stories to the RNC and the RNC pundits.
We have to get the message out that the behavior & practices of the DNC during the primaries & the convention is a personal matter to each of us. As I see it the DNC basically manipulated the process to ensure that Obama would be the candidate.
The RNC & its pundits need to hear from Hillary supporters that we are mad as h*ll that our votes were dismissed and tossed out and we were ignored. The RNC & its pundits need to understand why we as Hillary supporters are turning our backs on the DNC and what the passion is that we feel which would cause us to turn away and NOT vote Democrat this November (and for many of us this would be the FIRST time to not vote Democrat).
We have to explain to the RNC & its pundits why for Hillary supporters that voting against Obama is MORE important to us today than the social issues that the DNC keeps trotting out as the reason that we will supposedly be driven to vote ONLY for Obama. With only a few months left – we need to focus our communications to those who will be able to speak for us in the mainstream media. The RNC & their pundits would be more than happy to repeat our messages on tv news show as to why NOT Obama & why NOT the DNC.
Flooding the DNC & their pundits with our communications is not going to accomplish our goals. I agree we need to let them know we don’t agree with them, but the truth is that they will continue to ignore us just as they have done all along. The DNC will continue to point to PUMAs as crazy and that we do not represent the majority of Hillary supporters.
But if the RNC & their pundits start sharing PUMA lists for why not Obama and if they RNC & their pundits start sharing the various arguments Hillary supporters have against the DNC – THEN our primary goal is accomplished which is to get more people to NOT vote for Obama. We have to get the information to those 18million who voted for Hillary but who are not as familiar with why voting for Obama is not in their best interest – especially if they want a democratic party that is fair and honest.
Voting republican is not something I am jumping for joy about having to do. I try to look for the positive if McCain is elected. Such as, I just heard on the news today that McCain will have to fill posts from Independents & Democrats because there are not enough expert, qualified resources left in the Republican party. Many have retired and others have burned out after 8 years with Bush. So there is a good chance that when McCain says he will reach across party lines and promote co-partisianship that he will be successful. For me, McCain’s POW story is compelling (I had not really heard the details until the night he spoke at the RNC convention). My husband is a Vietnam Vet and I choose to believe that McCain will do what he can to support the armed forces and the veterans who return home.
I try to look for the positive if Palin is VP. I look at Palin and I am hopeful that her knowledge of drilling issues & what resources are available in Alaska will benefit the administration. I try to focus on the fact that she is a woman and if she does a decent job in her role (whether I share her views on social issues or not) – her presence will move forward the idea of women in the highest leadership roles, just as Hillary’s campaign has done. And I much prefer Cindy McCain over Michelle Obama. I was very impressed to hear of all Cindy has done as a volunteer in other countries. She may have money but she’s did not sit home and just go to the country club. I like that the RNC has promoted where Cindy differs in political views from Palin because where I don’t agree with Palin, I sometimes do agree with Cindy,
Do I agree with McCain & Palin on key social issues?- not at all. But my reality is that I’m left with Obama on one side who will only continue to be a DNC machine and is in the back pocket of Palosi & Dean; or I can vote for McCain & Palin.
I refuse to use my vote to permit Palosi & Dean continue to run the DNC down this path of ignoring the democratic voters. Of course I disagree with Palin & McCain on some of their positions. But I disagree MORE with the DNC and how they strong-armed to get Obama into the top position over Hillary.
So my suggestion is for all of us to watch the news programs & read the news on the Internet. But when you do – take note of the names of the RNC pundits who are speaking for McCain & Palin and then WRITE those Pundits a letter or an email.
I say target the news commentators on Fox who are often looking for something to shake at the DNC. When you write identify yourself as a supporter of Hillary Clinton and a member of PUMA. Provide some demographic (age, race, gender) – so they can see we are a diverse group. Tell them your personal story as to why you are upset with the DNC based on what occurred with Hillary and why you are prepared to vote for McCain & Palin (or for those who can’t vote for McCain – why you are not prepared to vote for Obama). Speak directly about why the social issues are not going to drive you to vote for Obama even though you may not share all the views of McCain & Palin.
I always put in my email subject line – Hillary supporter voting for McCain. I figure that will at least cause someone to read the first few lines of my email if for no other reason because they are curious. Then in my emails I try to explain WHY I am voting for McCain. I try to explain what I have embraced that helps me to do this so that they may be able to repeat it or attract others who may share my point of view. My goal is to hurt the DNC and to send them a message that they have forgotten that democracy must be maintained in the Democratic party. The only way I know to get the attention of the DNC is to NOT get Obama elected. I want to have Pelosi & Dean crying the day after the election because their guy did not win. For me this is less about Obama and much more about sending a message to the DNC that I will NOT fall in line and do what they say – especially after watching how they treated the democratic voters.
I think our PUMA emails where we all copy the same words has it’s place, but I also think that when each of us writes & speaks to the RNC pundits from our hearts & based on our personal beliefs & personal stories – then the impact on the readers (RNC pundits) is more effective. We don’t want to be seen as robots who always say the same thing. We want to sometimes show our diversity and how our personal stories differ – but demonstrate that we are ALL in agreement about NO OBAMA. RNC pundits who write for newspapers & magazines are often very more likely to read a letter or email because their world is about the written word. Our heartfelt testimonies as to why we are turning away from the DNC for this year is important for them to hear. I say keep writing every day – but let’s send some of our words to those who might actually repeat what we are saying on tv news programs. I say target the RNC & the RNC pundits if we really want to help others keep Obama from being elected.
Don’t get me wrong – I still occasionally fire off an email to one of those crazy MSNBC commentators who make me yell at my television. But they are no longer my target audience when I communicate.
I also constantly scan the Internet for any site that is gathering signatures or promoting elevating Hillary Clinton’s status. Whether it is promoting that she be given some key position in the new president’s cabinet, or that she be given a leadership role in the Senate. Hillary is the one who got me energized about the election and I would still like to see her be a key player in the next 4 years!

I agree with you totally. It would even be good to write to the John McCain’s campaign as well. It could work to their advantage to expose the DNC’s egregious acts. If the McCain camp was made aware of the 3rd world tactics, the DNC and Obama used in this primary election, while we have troops in Iraq dying to facilitate a fair election, they may want to help us expose it.

I thought you did a great job as host interviewing Gloria Allred. The public has become so accustomed to drive-by, sensationalist, MSM journalism that we forget what it should be. If a host makes the guest comfortable, so they can say their POV, which the host can then question, the callers can then be provoked in such a way that they can drive even harder questions in the discussion. I think that’s what happened, as there were lots more questions and comments than air time.
To me, that’s good radio — as evidenced by this thread — which, although it has other topics within it, provided for lots of conversation about Gloria and her stands vs. Puma’s.

I am exhorting all fellow PUMAS to help disseminate my posting around the country — and under your name. Just take my material, and put your name on it.
As you note in my 5:58 AM posting, I already know this will be running in print media within the next 14 days or so, well known regional newspapers in certain newspapers in Ohio, PA, NJ, and Maine.
I will also get into well known on-line media as fast as I can.
BUT, I can use help on both.

The on-line media is endless. Every major newspaper in the country has a blogging site, and/or where they invite reader comments…. I offer all PUMA people … use mine under your name. NO PROBLEM.
The purpose is to win on 11/4.
Some comments: My piece has 686 words in it. Most on-line sites will accept that. For the print media, 686 words may be too long. But look into it. If there could be a problem…. Submit the 686 word version as is, and then an alternate at less words.

It was a close race to begin with, and the Hillary Clinton team couldn’t overcome that.
Also this primary election season should not have been about race, but the Obama campaign brought that up. First, was early on in South Carolina, and then just recently when Mr. Obama reminded all Americans he didn’t look like all the other presidents on the dollar bills.
In my opinion, Mr. Obama can be a likable person, probably in the same way he once referred to Hillary Clinton in public, as “she’s likable enough”.
To my immediate subject, I have excerpted the flowing specific quotes from Mr. Obama’s recent acceptance speech on August 28th before 80,000 people in the Mile High Stadium in Denver, and that included an estimated 38 million viewers on TV, as he spoke between these two large grey styrofoam columns that came from “central staging” someplace.
From the speech: (A) “I will eliminate capital gains taxes for the small businesses and the start-ups that will create the high-wage, high-tech jobs of tomorrow”. (B) “I will cut taxes for 95 percent of all working families”. (C) “I will set a clear goal as president: in 10 years, we will finally end our dependence on oil from the Middle East”. (D) “I will tap our natural gas reserves, invest in clean coal technology, and find ways to safely harness nuclear power”. (E) “I’ll help our auto companies retool, so that the fuel-efficient cars of the future are built right here in America. I’ll make it easier for the American people to afford these new cars”. (F) “And I’ll invest $150 billion over the next decade in affordable, renewable sources of energy — wind power and solar power and the next generation of biofuels; an investment that will lead to new industries and 5 million new jobs that pay well and can’t ever be outsourced”. (G) “I’ll recruit an army of new teachers, and pay them higher salaries and give them more support”. (H) “Now is the time to help families with paid sick days and better family leave”. (I) “Now is the time to finally keep the promise of affordable, accessible health care for every single American. If you have health care, my plan will lower your premiums. A letter from Lynette

I am reprinting a letter from Dr. Lynette Long that was sent to me today. Although I agree with many of the points Lynette makes, I am not as willing to go as far as she has with an endorsement. Everyone is encouraged to take as much time as they like in choosing whether to vote or not this year. This is Dr. Long’s POV and I find her thoughts on gender equity point on. My own daughter, who scores in the top 2% nationally in math has been forced to repeat a year of pre-algebra in spite of good grades. Many of her male classmates with her scores are taking a math class that will put her two years behind them next year. There was no arguing with the teacher. Brook just didn’t register on her radar and after March, she stopped calling on Brook in class. Brook is 12. Fortunately, she was admitted to Stanford University’s EPGY program based on the strength of her standardized test scores. She doesn’t have to fall behind but it is a sad situation that forces her to teach herself, via distance learning, with virtually no encouragement from her teachers or peer group. Already, it is expected that she will have to work much harder to get half as far. Discrimination starts young.

Gloria Steinem, in her recent editorial in the Los Angeles Times, came out strongly against Governor Palin claiming the only thing women have in common with Palin is an X chromosome. I respectfully disagree. Governor Palin knows what it is like to be a woman, a mother, a daughter, a sister – things the two men on the Democratic ticket can never fully understand. She knows what it is like to grow up invisible in an incredibly sexist society, to be stared at, groped, and sexually harassed. She knows what it is like to be smaller in stature than men and physically vulnerable. She knows what it’s like to worry that you are pregnant when you don’t want to be or that you are not pregnant when you want to be. Sarah Palin knows what it is to experience the joys and sorrows of motherhood, to nurse a baby while holding down a job, to leave for work in the morning with a toddler tugging at your pant leg, or to have your children calling you at work to diffuse squabbles or ask for help with homework. She knows that once you get to work you have to speak twice as loud and twice as often to be heard and work twice a hard to go half as far. She knows what it is to be a member of the second sex.
Gender is the most fundamental human characteristic. The first comment made when a child is born is either, “It’s a girl” or “It’s a boy.” From that second on, boys and girls live in parallel universes in the same culture. From the nursery room to the board room, boys and girls are given different messages about their respective roles in the world. At the hospital they are given different types of names and wrapped in different color blankets. Once home, baby girls and boys wear fundamentally different clothes and play with different toys. This differentiation extends through school where girls are given less attention, picked less frequently to answer questions and placed less often in advanced science and math classes. Once in the workforce, women are steered into lower-paying careers, paid less for the same work, and forced to juggle the responsibilities of work and home. You can’t learn what it is to be a woman, unless you are one. You can’t have a government essentially devoid of women that knows what’s best for women. You can’t legislate for women, without women.
After the last Democratic Primary was over and it was clear Senator Clinton was not going to get the Democratic nomination, myself, and a small group of Clinton supporters met with Senator McCain and Carly Fiorina. I personally explained to Senator McCain that women comprise well over half of the population, yet are underrepresented in every branch of government. I asked him loudly and clearly to choose a woman for the VP slot and to increase the number of women in the cabinet and on the Supreme Court. Senator McCain listened respectfully to my request. Representatives of The New Agenda also met with Carly Fiorina and as well as representatives from the Obama campaign to
make similar requests.
After the Democratic Primary, I was also in contact with a member of Obama’s Finance Committee. He left several messages on my office phone, “urging” me to support Senator Obama. We had numerous contentious conversations and I finally told him I would be happy to vote for Senator Obama and rally other Hillary supporters to vote for Senator Obama but in return I wanted Obama to pledge gender parity in the cabinet. I foolishly thought equal representation in government was a reasonable request. “What if there aren’t qualified women you still expect us to appoint half women to the cabinet?” he replied. I was confused. “There are 300 million people in this country; you’re telling me you can’t find ten qualified women?” His responded, “You can’t have that.” We had no further conversations. There was nothing more to say.
Weeks later I approached a training session for DNC canvassers at a park in my neighborhood. Eager to practice their new skills, they all ran up to me, “Do you support Senator Obama? Do you want to donate money to the DNC?” After explaining that I was a Hillary supporter, I again made my request. I will support Senator Obama if he will pick a woman as his running mate and promise gender parity in the cabinet. The men in the group openly laughed at me and found my request ridiculous. I looked at the horrified faces of the newly minted female canvassers. “They’re laughing at you too,” I muttered.
Not one to give up, I contacted a daughter of a friend of mine who is a policy advisor for Obama. She assured me Obama was a good guy, so I posed my request to her. She generously responded, “I’ll ask him.” When I did not hear back from her in a few days, I shot her another email. She told me how disappointed she was in me for making such a stupid request. Obama was on the “right” side of the issues. Why did it matter whether men or women legislated those issues? I guess the answer from Obama was No. What saddened me was her mother was one of this nation’s greatest champions of title nine, educational equity and gender parity. Her mother and I counted the number of pictures of boys and girls in text books, male and female cartoon characters, and documented the underrepresentation of girls in math classes in our nation’s schools. Yes, policy is important but who decides and delivers that policy is even more important. As Marshall McLuhan profoundly noted, “The medium is the message.” Children incorporate many of their perceptions about gender by five years old. Little girls won’t understand if Sarah Palin is pro-life or pro-choice, believes in gun control or is a member of the NRA, but they will know the Vice-President of the United States of America is a girl and that alone will alter their perceptions of themselves.
I have given my loyalty to the Democratic Party for decades. My party, which is comprised primary of women, has not put a woman on a presidential ticket for 24 years. My party refused to nominate my candidate, Hillary Clinton, for president or vice president, even though she received more votes than any other candidate in history. My party stood silently by as Hillary Clinton was eviscerated by the mainstream media. My party was mute while MSM repeatedly called Clinton a bitch and symbolically called me and every other woman in this country a bitch. My party was disturbingly silent when the MSM commented on Hillary’s body or the shrillness of her voice, reminding me and every other woman the fundamental disrespect we endure on a daily basis. My party’s candidate was mute when Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfleger openly mocked Senator Clinton from the pulpit of Trinity United Church of Christ. My party’s candidate was silent when the rapper Ludicrous released a new song calling Hillary a bitch. My party and it’s candidate gave their tacit approval for the attacks on Senator Hillary Clinton and consequently women in general.
I have a choice. I can vote for my party and it’s candidates which have demonstrated a blatant disrespect for women and a fundamental lack of integrity or I can vote for the Republican ticket which has heard our concerns and put a woman on the ticket but with whom I fundamentally don’t agree on most issues. If Democratic women wait for the perfect woman to come along, we will never elect a woman. We have to seize opportunity where it presents itself. Besides, the Democratic Party is no longer my home. I have no home, but this election I will make my bed somewhere else.
I respect Gloria Steinem’s right to support the presidential ticket of her choice but she is openly trying to derail Sarah Palin’s historic candidacy. As Madeleine Albright said, “There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” I will vote for McCain-Palin. I urge other women to do the same. I might not personally agree with Palin on every issue and I promise to the first person knocking on her door, if Roe v. Wade, or any other legislation that goes against the rights of women is threatened. But in Governor Palin I find a woman of integrity, who not only talks the talk but walks the walk. I can work with that. I will work with that. When I walk down the street, I don’t have democrat printed on my forehead, but my gender is obvious to everyone and impacts every interaction in my life. Since my country is far from gender neutral, right now for me gender trumps everything else. I urge other women to join me in this fight for equality. Sometimes opportunities occur where you least expect them. ”

This and Sarah Palin’s position on abortion is what I have to fight with my family when I say that we cannot support Obama. I don’t believe that they will overturn roe v wade even if they get more conservative judges in the supreme court. Hillary, Obama and Biden voted for Alito and Roberts. Why didn’t they vote no on these conservative judges? The democrats who voted for these men should have had more fortitude and voted no until someone was nominated that everyone could have lived with.
I really believe (although I don’t think that it will happen) that if McCain and Palin came out and said that they are pro abortion, but don’t believe that Roe v Wade should be overturned because of all the problems and back alley procedures that result from this, that they feel that it is in the best interest of the nation if it remains the way it is!! If they said that, do you know how many more votes they would get. It would be a shoe in!!!

I love [adore] Gloria for her heroic efforts during the DNC/delegate Roll Call – and for her body of work, in general, for women’s rights. I respect that she’s now supporting Obama.
However…
I was really *PROUD* that Puma Pac callers were able to express their discontent to fall in line with her argument that Obama will follow through with his agenda.
I’ll always respect Gloria – how could I not? But, really, the way the discussion was handled, with respect on both sides, just made me beam with pride!
Obama is not the vote on my conscious [personally]. I can’t bring myself to do it.. that’s just me. But, it was great hearing both sides in such a non-argumentative tone. Thanks!
I just read on USNEWS (09/08) that “ABC News can confirm that Governor Sarah Palin will grant her first major interview since becoming John McCain’s running mate to ABC’s Charlie Gibson later this week.”
Bah, this ought to be good. He was completely misogonistic to Hillary back in his December interview with her. Rawr.
