Howard Dean is losing control. Delegates for both candidates are frustrated and confused. No one, not even official party delegates, can get a straight answer from the Chairman or from the DNC about what on earth is going on. What is going to happen in Denver? Here is a simple question for Howard and the DNC:
How is a candidate nominated at the National Nominating Convention in Denver?
You would think that the office of the Chairman of the DNC would be able to answer that simple question; or at least be able to put a duly elected delegate in touch with someone who could officially answer it. You would think that a distinguished professor of law at Georgetown University, a woman who is the very model of politeness and precise tact, would be able to elicit an answer to that question.
Well, you might think that and I might think that, but apparently we are unaware of the NEW RULZ for the DONC. Apparently the New Rulz for the DONC state that public relations, communications, and press officers are NOT ALLOWED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS FROM PARTY MEMBERS OR CITIZENS about Party rules, regulations, or policies. Apparently the New Rulz of the DONC state that paid employees of the DONC are to be trained experts at not answering delegates’ or professors’ questions; sending polite callers to the eternal merry-go-round of the Automated Voicemail System; and feigning ignorance about the basic policies and rules of their organization.
Welcome to the DONC, Folks. There are no more Rules. Now there are only RULZ.

WASHINGTON — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton plans to campaign for Barack Obama in Nevada and Florida this month, events expected to be her first solo campaign appearances for Obama since she lost the Democratic nomination contest.
The Obama campaign said Tuesday that Clinton will host rallies and voter registration events this Friday in Las Vegas and again in south Florida on Aug. 21.
In June, Clinton and Obama appeared together in Unity, N.H., in a symbolic event to push for party unity after their long and often bitter primary battle. Both also have been helping each other raise money, in Clinton’s case to retire her own hefty campaign debt.
The announcement came a day after former President Clinton defended his role in the hard-fought Democratic primary. He said that while he may have some regrets, he was not a racist and had never attacked Obama personally.
“There are things that I wish I’d urged her to do. Things I wish I’d said. Things I wish I hadn’t said,” the former president told ABC News.
Democrats hope the Clintons and Obama can persuade supporters on both sides to put aside any bad feelings and come together to defeat Republican Sen. John McCain this fall.
Sen. Clinton is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Democratic National Convention in Denver later this month, but her husband’s role there is still unclear.
Sen. Clinton conceded to Obama in early June after the primaries ended and he’d locked up sufficient convention delegates to win nomination.
Since then, she has been slowly re-injecting herself into the New York political scene from which she’s been largely absent for more than a year. On Monday night, she was the guest of honor at a party thrown by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
At the party, Clinton thanked constituents for putting their demands on hold for 18 months while she campaigned for president.
“Now the hold is off, and I am open for business, 100 percent of the time and really looking forward to working with you on behalf of this city and state that we love,” Clinton said

I hesitated because I wasn’t sure how many could relate to that comment.
I dont think that it would be in the best interests of the Clintons or the country to have Hillary on the ticket as VP. For some reason I think there is going to eventually be some Heavy duty fallout from all the crap that Obama has been pulling. As we have noticed Obama just starts pointing fingers at everyone around him and throwing people under the bus.
I actually hate it that Hillary is campaigning for him.

I’ll be there one way or another. I think I was tired (took a three hour nap… yay) when I learned of my $1000 unexpected vehicle repair bill.

Thank you for your comments. I wasn’t sure how I felt about Hillary being on the ticket with Obama until now.
Initially, I thought it might be good for Hillary to be VP, because it would be a path to the Presidency if Obama is elected and later screws up. However, I still didn’t like the idea of Obama being President, under any circumstances.
But you made me realize how much Obama could ruin Hillary’s career if she were on the ticket with him. She would be associated with all of his misdeeds, whether she had any part of it or not.
So now I’m clear. If Hillary were on the ticket as VP, I’d still vote for McCain.
The only dilemma would be if Hillary gets the nomination in Denver and is somehow forced to take Obama as her VP as part of the deal. God forbid.

You need to APPLY.
Applicants will be called and SCREENED.
The entire evening, the DNCC chief executive admits, is intended to become a “recruiting tool.”
If that doesn’t absolutely CREEP YOU OUT, I don’t know what else could.
But the funniest part is, if you go to the web address they provide for the application, it takes you absolutely nowhere. I found that rather prophetic.

This will be considered off-topic — but it isn’t. I thought I’d share this letter which was sent to the Editor of the Times-Dispatch by a gentlemen who escaped Cuba in the 1960’s. His words come from the experience of believing in someone, without taking the time to know who they really are, and the consequences that followed:

Dear Editor, Times-Dispatch:
Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day, and on July 4, I celebrate America ’s. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.
On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba, and a few months later, I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress.
I’ve thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, so when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.
When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed. When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said, ‘Praise the Lord.’ And when the young leader said, ‘I will be for change and I’ ll bring you change,’ everone yelled, ‘Viva Fidel!’
But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner’s guns went silent, the people’s guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education, it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time the change was finally implemented, Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over, more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I’m back to the beginning of my story.
Luckily, we in America would never fall for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America ?

Sorry I haven’t been around this week; been alittle under the weather.
Got both of the books about Obama today: The Case Against Barack Obama, and The Obama Nation. Haven’t decided which one to read first.
I never wanted Hillary to be bo’s VP. That would be an insult to her. We must get Hillary’s name in nomination, and the delegates to vote their conscience.
Hope everyone that wants to go to Denver gets the chance to go..

I believe the party choices are the same among all states, no?

Many years ago my best friend calls me “commie”, I was a bleeding heart democrat. How DNC is acting now especially the superdelegates bought and paid for by NOBAMA, I finally agree with him. NOBAMA now is the NEW PIMP of Superdelegates and DNC.
In general election you can vote for any party you like, only in primary some state require you have to declare your party affiliation to be able to join the primary and cast your vote.

SD VOTES AT THE CONVENTION
I read in the blog a few days ago that SD votes are secret. I don’t know if that’s true. Whether or not the ballot is private, it still doesn’t mean the information isn’t logged somewhere and available to the public. I just don’t know. (Maybe Trish, our cracker jack fact checker could find out!)
The reason I bring this up is I want to know if we’ll be able to know how each SD voted once the convention is over. If anyone knows anything about this (Trish?), please post.
P.S. I think it would be quite ironic if millions of Democrats had to vote in a caucus, having to announce their vote to their friends and neighbors publically, while SD’s are afforded the very civilized chance to have their vote be private. Though I think that an SD’s vote should not be accorded the same privacy as a regular voter due to the nature of the power of their vote, ie, selecting the next nominee for POTUS. I think SD votes should be public and they should be held accountable.
Anyway, enough ranting. If anyone knows (Trish?) whether we’ll be able to find out how they voted, please share. (Trish?) Thanks (Trish).

well I agree…she seems to be like the way many of us felt in the week between June 3rd and the day she gave the speech in the museum (which I believe was the 7th) you know all drained and don’t really care what happens or how you look like you just want to be left alone.
I compared her “thank you” video on june 3rd to the one today and you can definatley tell theres a difference in her. Shes not upbeat anymore, doesn’t seem to care much for her hair, her skin looks pale like if we just got sick or something.
IDK I feel really bad for her. She doesn’t want to do this but if theres any chance of her having a political career then she must.

I’m concerned she may be a bit more blunt about supporting BO and I’m concerned she may start to gently ease us into some hard news pertaining to her plans for her pledged delegates. But, I’m an anxiety-ridden, neurotic, worry wart and even I have to take such concerns with a grain of salt because I know I can skew things in the direction of FEAR. It’s another reason I’m freaked that I’m going to miss her chat. It would make it easier if I could be present and hear her words for myself. Now, it will have to be through someone else’s filter (unless there will be a way to replay it, per my question in post #205).

4hillinca – god, how depressing. i ventured into the campaign headquarters in my town yesterday (wrote a little tale about my experience in yesterday’s blog). and, i’m very psyched about tomorrow when i plan to meet some obama folks at their little table at our local farmer’s market. i confronted them last week and one woman went on and on and on about how fisa was ok and how obama would never vote for anything that blah, blah, blah…in addition to my fliers, i’ve got my talking points all printed out about fisa which i will hand to her.

I totally agree with him that her message to us is convoluted. Yes, she did say in her video that her supporters should have a say but I don’t understand what that means if she will not sign on to have her name in nomination. Hopefully, we will get an answer tomorrow. I pray it’s the answer we’ve been waiting for.

I just went to Hillary’s website and asked her if she would sign the petition presented to her by the delegates to put her name in nomination. Also, told her I would do anything for her but vote for BO. That I would vote for McCain as Obama was not any more qualified today than he was a year ago. She wants you to submit questions. Go do it and if enough people ask her to please have a meaningful roll call with her in nomination, she may sign.

I just watched the video, had not previously done so. This is not Hillary and you are right, she does not look happy. I wish she would quit telling us to support this idiot, I will never, never, never, never vote for him. Period. I can’t stand the man, he is such a liar. Hillary is probably praying like we are that something will happen before the convention to knock him down. We need to do a mass PUMA prayer and will Hillary to keep fighting.
PRIMARY VS. CONVENTION NOMINATION
According to the election laws of each of the several states, the date by which a Presidential candidate has to file nomination papers to get her name on the ballot in that state for the general election is determined by several factors, including whether she is representing a major party; and whether this party’s rules mandate that a candidate is determined as the result of a primary campaign or a convention. Candidates resulting from votes cast in primaries can be identified when those primaries – read, primary election contests – are over and so, the date by which they have to file to get on the ballot precedes the date for candidates chosen by delegates voting at convention. If the DNC wants to treat BO as their nominee before the convention then, they should be willing to forgo getting on the ballot in those states that only extend the deadline for filing when the candidate of the party must be chosen at the convention. Because he has already missed several of those deadlines. And he is about to miss many more.

I come, read the posts, and even occasionally write one. As I read I think to myself that PUMA’s should be proud of themselves and of each other. All of you follow in the footsteps of some of our early great Americans like Benjamin Franklin and Paul Revere.
Benjamin Franklin, whose brother owned a newspaper, wrote letters to the editor of that newspaper on issues of the day. He knew his brother would not publish them so he wrote under a nom de plume Silence Dogood. Like Benjamin, PUMA’s are writing under a nom de plume on issues that concern them.
Paul Revere was not only a silversmith and a rider of fame “One if by land and two if by sea” but he was a great organizer. He rode up and down the New England coast hiding munitions and sometimes food for possible use in the American Revolution. His foresight and planning assured the patriots of supplies with which to stand up and protect their rights. PUMA’s are following in this tradition by planning events and protesting wherever they can.
Standing up and protecting democracy is noble. You are all to be saluted.

Tucked away on the Cayman Islands sits Ugland House, an unassuming, nondescript building of modest scale and size. However, according to a recent report by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), this five-story office building is home to more than 18,000 corporate entities, nearly half of which have U.S. ties.
In the past few years, the number of corporations flocking to places like the Cayman Islands to evade U.S. taxes has exploded. One of these companies, former Halliburton subsidiary KBR, has used offshore tax havens to avoid paying hundreds of millions of dollars in federal taxes. To no one’s surprise, instead of cracking down on KBR, the Bush administration has rewarded the company in April of this year with a 10-year, $150 billion contract in Iraq.
There appears to be no crisis, tragedy or disaster immune from exploitation under the Bush administration. The examples of the waste, fraud and abuse are legion — from KBR performing shoddy electrical work in Iraq that has resulted in the electrocution of our military personnel according to Pentagon and Congressional investigators, to the firing of an Army official who dared to refuse a $1 billion payout for questionable charges to the same company. In another scam, the Pentagon awarded a $300 million contract to AEY, Inc., a company run by a 22-year-old who fulfilled an ammunition deal in Afghanistan by supplying rotting Chinese-made munitions to our allies.
But the fraud and waste are not limited to the war. In the weeks after Hurricane Katrina, for example, FEMA awarded a contract worth more than $500 million for trailers to serve as temporary housing. The contractor, Gulf Stream, collected all of its money even though they knew at the time that its trailers were contaminated with formaldehyde.
While touting fiscal responsibility, President Bush and his administration have lined the pockets of political cronies like Halliburton and Blackwater. While calling for earmark reform, the president has allowed no-bid and questionable contracting throughout the federal government to dwarf earmark spending by a 10-to-1 ratio.
If we’re going to get serious about putting our nation’s fiscal house in order, let’s talk about putting an end to billions in no-bid contract awards to unaccountable contractors. Let’s talk about the number of lucrative contracts and bonuses being paid for duties never performed, promises never fulfilled, and contracts falsely described as complete. And let’s talk about reforming the federal contracting system so that we can take on the real waste, fraud and abuse in our federal government.
I’ve proposed a comprehensive overhaul to root out corruption in no-bid contracts and other shady deals. Reforms must include the following:
- Instead of rewarding companies that exploit tax shelters and incorporate in tax havens, let’s ban the federal government from contracting with companies that hide profits offshore.
- We should put in place safeguards so that contracts are awarded to responsible companies that abide by the law and complete the work they’re hired to do.
- Let’s put a stop to the disgraceful practice of giving bonuses to contractors for work never performed, which has been allowed to happen in Iraq and throughout the federal government according to the GAO and inspectors general.
- We need to increase transparency and competition in the contracting system, and to stop the ideological privatization of critical governmental functions.
In 1941, as the U.S. mobilized and entered World War II, then Sen. Harry Truman proposed and chaired the Senate Special Committee to investigate the National Defense Program. Over the course of three years, Truman set about investigating a president of his own party in order to discover and eliminate wasteful and fraudulent spending. By some estimates, the “Truman Committee” saved the American people some $15 billion — more than $165 billion in today’s dollars.
Truman took on the war profiteers because he understood that when the lives of Americans hang in the balance, we cannot afford to misuse even a single dollar. In the Democratic Congress, we’ve proposed a new Truman Committee to address the waste, fraud and abuse in Iraq and Afghanistan that has already taken place, a proposal stymied by the president and his allies. And my proposal would prevent waste, fraud and abuse in future contracting.
Of course, we need far more than a Truman Committee. We need the Truman spirit in the White House, where the buck finally stops.

Throughout the primary, Obama’s campaign engaged in a ruthless pursuit of dominance dependent upon relentless and brutal attacks on Hillary Clinton. Meditate on this for a moment: Obama suggested that Hillary remained in the race because she was waiting for an unspeakable act to occur, like the murder of our beloved Bobby Kennedy in 1968. This was the final insult in a catalogue of insults.

Would it have crossed their minds to run a daily “Barack Deathwatch” if it were the Illinois senator, not Clinton, running a close second?
The frequent use of violent and sexist imagery against Hillary has been document here and elsewhere. Lakota, in a guest post on these pages, succinctly describes our revulsion to Obama: I never heard him say to his supporters or the misogynist media, “I denounce support from anyone who speaks hatred and violence toward my opponent, Hillary Clinton, a sitting Senator, a woman who has devoted her life to public service.” Never once did I hear any “leadership” from him to work for “unity.” Instead, I saw him dust the imaginary dirt off his shoulder and rub the side of his face in that clear obscene gesture toward Hillary.

Today I called Rasmussen to respond to today’s poll showing support for HRC as BO’s VP declined from June. So, I called Rasmussen. Nice man answered the phone. Very calmly and politely, I asked what was the poll question. He referred me to the bottom of the Rasmussen page, where there was a link. I read the survey question aloud: would you support HRC as BO’s VP? to the question. ‘Oh,’ I said, ‘that explains it.’ Now, I pointed out that this poll is misleading. ‘People responding to this question might have answered ‘no’ because they do not want BO on the ticket; and people interpreting those responses might incorrectly think HRC had dropped in popularity. But the opposite is true. For example, several of my friends and I, at one point, might have considered that if BO won the nomination for President, we wanted HRC to be the VP. However, we have learned so much about him since then that we don’t want her anywhere near a ticket BO is on. So her numbers in your poll could reflect that his support has declined.’ (Note: I never supported BO.) The guy sounded flustered. I said, Thank you,’ and hung up the phone.

I would like to congratulate our leader Murphy and other people like River daughter and the leaders of the other ’sister’ and ‘brother’ groups. We have managed to hold the line on our opposition to Jester with Hillary supporters. How do I know?
I heard on the news this morning on CNN, that the count of Hillary supporters who support him is holding the same as one week after he was appointed the victor by the DNC. At that time he had about 60% of her supporters, give or take a few points, but about 40% said they would not support him. As of now? the average of the latest polls show him at 61% support among Hillary voters, with 39% NOT Supporting him!
Now PUMAs, I am a real estate appraiser. In that capacity, I crunch numbers every day. With a + or – 4% in the polls, HE HAS NOT GAINED EVEN 1% ON AVERAGE IN THESE TRACKING POLLS!
The gist of it is: UNLESS HILLARY VOTERS COME ACROSS, TO THE LEVEL OF 80+% Jester looses!
If this isn’t enough to shake up the managment in the DNC nothing will.

I’m taking my motorcycle helmut (I ride a scooter, but the helmut is the same. I, like you, will still be going to Denver for the Parade/March and then we’ll see. If Hillary caves, I may have to look at McCain. But if she is looking sick because of what her so-called colleagues have done to her and she is going to defy them- I couldn’t be happier. Let’s say a prayer for Hillary and for our country- we need her!

I think it’s probably fair to assume that many of us in this movement are old enough to have participated in the tumultuous 1970’s and ’80’s when political actions were huge and often violent. I thought your comments were wise. I know that the idea is being floated out there (or maybe it’s carved in stone) for PUMAs to all wear orange shirts. And, while I can understand the importance of being to identify each other, that plan also presents certain risks:
1. Helps police and others identify you, as well.
2. Makes it easy for potential agitators to infiltrate the group and ignite violence where there was none. This happened quite frequently during many demonstrations back in the day and I think it would be wise for anyone organizing for Denver to consider all of the pros and cons of their plan to make themselves easy to identify.

I, too, believe BO fails to meet the requirements to get on the ballot. That’s why I was checking out filing deadlines. I noticed that some people just look at the deadline in that state – some people are reading the statutes – and say, for example, a candidate must file papers no more than 70 days before the general election. But there are all different kinds of candidates, for example, write-ins; 3rd party; and major party. Write-ins have no convention or primary; they have one filing deadline. Major parties have nominating conventions; obviously, it makes no sense to require party candidates (through the state heads of parties) to submit their nomination papers on a date that precedes their nominating conventions.

I have had a repeating dream that Hillary is standing at the podium, on a winter’s day in a turquoise tweed coat and hat, with her hand raised taking the oath of office. I dreamed this dream more than 4 years ago. I have recently dreamed it numerous times.
Is it wistful thinking? I hope not. I have had other dreams of this kind that came completely true.

I want to respond to some earlier posts about gretawire.
There are apparently a lot of PUMA’S who post over there. It’s kind of hard to tell who’s who because she doesn’t register names. People also take your name and post all kinds of garbage, so it’s hard to figure things out over there.
I have been on her blog for almost a year now. It was all republican until the primary started. Then more and more people started moving from McCain to Hillary, I have to admit that I am in that group.
Now it is 95% anti Obama and about 50/50 McCain and Hillary. Most of the Pro Obama names are a handful of people using the same name.
As for Greta, she and her husband are Big Hillary supporters. I can’t speak for her, but I don’t think she is for Obama now.
OK……I’ve made my gretawire speech.
I also sent a note to Hillary telling her that I didn’t have a question for tomorrow, but that I could not honor her wish that I vote for Obama.

Now, one other statistic: At last count (from memory, may not be completely accurate) less than 25% of Obama supporters said they would not vote for Hillary if Obama was not the nominee.

I was the part of 3 protests in the 60s with very unfair police action.
2 were Civil Rights…Turned out Houston police disliked white protestors more than the blacks. I wore black & blue bracelets; as we called them from where the handcuffs almost cut off my circulation. As a 16 year old in the 60s I also learned words I had never heard before.
The other one was a peace demonstration, which ended up a bit better but…..
What I say to all of you—Keep a buddy system; buddy system enures a witness. No matter what anyone around you does or what law enforcement does do not strike out in any manner even to defend yourself. It will be used against you, especially if it is law enforcement.
I am truly hoping that in this day and age of cell phone cameras, and tons of media people at any sign of action that there will be no problems in Denver.

Could someone serve as a kind of “sercretary” and take “minutes” of these shows and post them on the blog?
My speakers are really bad and it’s hard to hear. Plus, I just don’t have the patience to wade through the chit-chatty stuff. It feels too much like an in-crowd and if you try to listen in mid-stream, I find it really difficult to get into the flow and catch up with what’s going on.
Show moderators – It’d be great to periodically summarize with just a couple of sentences who’s on or who’s just been on along with just the bullet points/sound bites of what they said. If you listen to Terri Gross, she’s brilliant at doing this all throughout her show “Fresh Air” on NPR. I realize you’re not professional radio talk show hosts and you’re doing an amazing job jumping into that role. But, I think if you cut down on the background exchanges and summarized periodically, it would help people as they tune in and out as they are able due to their personal schedule, etc.
I seem to have tuned in after the great guy that Dances got excited about was on. By the time I got there, he was off and a caller came on who had sent the photos from the Bloomberg event. Her call soon seemed like something that could have been taken off the air. I just couldn’t hang with her…couldn’t find the relevance.
Sorry, I’m irritable today, though, in general, I have found blogradio to be challenging to really hang with for 2 hrs for some of the reasons stated above.
Just my take on it.

Big Cat Lover and Dances – Went to the radio web site. Seems the show can be listened to not in real time. Big Cat Lover thanks for the tip off of about when Paul called in. Unfortunately, there’s no way to manipulate fast forwarding or back tracking and at this time in the evening can’t keep track of keeping track of when the half way point will be.
Anyway, if there were a way to do that a great system could be put in place whereby listeners could at least note down how far into the program something really critical is discussed and I would gladly go and retrieve the info and type it out in summary form. But I can’t just have the show playing and try to keep track of the time as it goes on in the background.
Dances – You were right on to suggest I transcribe it and even do my own investigating as to whether the show could be replayed (though it was also reasonable to ask if you happen to know).

Clinton supporters to stage ‘18 Million Voices’ march

Sen. Clinton waved at supporters gathered in early June as she announced the suspension of her White House bid.
(CNN) – A grassroots organization of Hillary Clinton supporters has announced plans to march in Denver on the same day the New York senator is set to address her party’s faithful during the Democratic convention there.
The march will take place on August 26 and is being organized by 18 Million Voices Rise Hillary Rise. The march will be accompanied by a festival in downtown Denver and additional coordinated marches across the country on the same day.
Clinton, who garnered approximately 18 million votes in the long Democratic primary fight, is scheduled to speak at the convention on the 88th anniversary of the date American women were granted the right to vote.
Since Clinton announced the formal suspension of her presidential campaign, the Obama campaign has gone to great lengths to promote party unity. Clinton and Obama appeared together at a campaign event in Unity, New Hampshire; the Obama campaign recently announced that New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson will be holding two fund-raising events to help retire Clinton’s campaign debt; and Clinton is scheduled to campaign on Obama’s behalf in key states.

I was the part of 3 protests in the 60s with very unfair police action.
I am truly hoping that in this day and age of cell phone cameras, and tons of media people at any sign of action that there will be no problems in Denver.

BigCatLover was kind enough to let me know the caller, Paul, came on around mid-way, but without being able to fast foward. it’s hard for me to keep track of the time at this time of the evening (crunch time in my household). It is said that behind every great man lies a greater woman. Behind Bill clinton was our beloved Hillary who we know all about, love and support.
I must admit, I don’t know a great deal about MO, but I do know that her husband doesn’t fit the description of ‘great.’ I don’t know how he can expect to ‘change’ Washington D.C. when he has spent such little time there. And I don’t care much about or for him.
But I think Cindy McCain bears a look. In case we can’t go with hillary.
While it’s true that she is chairman nd majority owner of her family’s beer distribution business, she also oversees a family charity that supports groups that provide medical care to people in some of the world’s poorest countries. Recently she was in Viet Nam with Operation Smile, a group that brings American doctors to repair children’s cleft palates. She sits on that chariy’s board, alsoIn her own words, the White House would give her a platform to advance causes, like special education. She wants to inspire people to get involved in their communities and to focus on causes greater than themselves. Instead of pursuing a degree in business, like her father wanted, she earned a Master’s Degree in special education and returned home to work with children with down’s Syndrome and other disablilities in poor neighborhoods of Phoenix.
I’m thinking, hey if we can’t have Hillary, or cindy, then even Paris hilton would be a better choice than Obama. At least she has a credible energy policy.
My point is, that whatever the outcome of the convention and the election, we have a golden opportunity to make sure that women have a say in the direction our world moves. It may not be the whole pie, but it’s a significant piece.

DIA is a large airport. Lots of flights in and out from early in am til late at night. Don’t know where you’re heading but could probably get in by morning flight in time for march and leave on evening flight.

Hey Anna, that’s what PUMAs are for, to come in for help when another is sad. Believe me, there are many PUMAs that have pulled me out of a few very black days since June too. I think we all go there every now and then and it is comforting to know there are so many of us that one helping paw is all we need.

Since 1982, Operation Smile has provided free reconstructive surgery to more than 100,000 children and young adults in 25 countries. Cindy is currently on a leave of absence from the Board of Directors of CARE, USA, which works to fight global poverty, particularly among women. She traveled to Tanzania in February 2007 with CARE.

So, like the proverbial laser, I am focusing on getting Hillary’s name in nomination and nominated in Denver. This means zooming in on the decision makers and the opinion makers with thoughtful, persuasive communications. Please help in any way you can!
With regard to the nominating petition, please note that in the interests of making it as complicated as possible, there are 4 categories of delegate who can be part of the 300+ nominating HRC delegates: SDs, pledged (elected) delegates from the Congressional Districts, at-large delegates and one other I can’t remember right now. There is a separate petition for each category. Delegates: please write to hrc300delegates@yahoo.com to be sure to get the correct petition to sign. This is important – remember Alice Palmer!!!
Please note that Super Delegates CAN also sign a petition – EWers: please pass along this information and ask them, ASAP, to contact hrc300delegates@yahoo.com. Kudos to SD Garry Mauro of Texas for speaking up for a roll call and his support of HRC!
Also, the rumor about Hillary needing only one delegate to nominate her is being spread by Howard Dean and the DNC, and is false. The DNC is spreading misinformation about the petition to stop it from happening or at least to depress the number of delegates being willing to sign. How very un-American and anti-democratic of the DNC.
Finally, if you think the SDs are nervous about Obama’s non-performance, the “down ticket” Dems are petrified. There is a simple solution for their angst – have them lobby their delegates to select Senator Clinton. She will beat McCain with long coattails and sweep in Democrats up and down the ticket. Together we can make it happen in the next 20 days.

Clinton, Obama Seek to Defuse Talk of Contested Floor Vote

With rumors flying about whether Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton will seek to include her name in a roll call vote of delegates at the Democratic convention, the Clinton and Obama campaign teams issued a rare joint statement on Wednesday night confirming that they are “working together” to come up with a suitable solution.
“At the Democratic Convention, we will ensure that the voices of everyone who participated in this historic process are respected and our party will be fully unified heading into the November election,” Obama spokesman Bill Burton said in a statement on behalf of the two camps.
Clinton has made it clear that she is not considering formally fighting Sen. Barack Obama for the nomination in Denver later this month. But her supporters, some still riled from the close primary contest, have threatened to create at least a disturbance if she is not given enough respect, including, possibly, having her name entered into contention and the votes of her delegates read aloud.
At this point, it is as likely as not that Clinton will be formally nominated at the convention, individuals close to the negotiations said. Officials have firmly denied a report last week that Clinton had decided not to have her name put into the record. Advisers on both sides also said that relations between the two are improving; Clinton is scheduled to appear in Nevada for Obama later this week.
Details of how Obama’s campaign plans to stage the convention have still not been announced, but officials involved in the planning said they expect that Tuesday of that week – two nights before Obama officially accepts the nomination – will belong to Clinton. Her husband has not yet been invited to speak, and it is unclear whether he will appear at all.
The opening Monday night of the convention is expected to honor Sen. Edward M. Kennedy and his family. Obama will arrive late in the festivities, and will deliver his acceptance speech at a 75,000 seat Invesco Field, the outdoor stadium.used by the Denver Broncos.

The Obama Nation
explores the background of Obama’s father. The story of him getting to America my not be as Obama has portrayed it. Instead of “showing great promise” evidence suggests that it was his grandfathers influence in the government that got him on the plane to America. He studied econometrics. His purpose was to learn and go back to Kenya to replace the British officials that were leaving the newly independent Kenya.
It must have been a surprize to the 80 donors that paid for the trip to hear Obama lie when he told us that the Kennedy’s had brought his father to America. It seems Obama wanted us to think that he owed his life to JFK. (Kennedys did offer to pay $100,000 for the 2nd trip to America – not the one his father traveled on)
His dad was 23 when he left Africa and his pregnant wife Kezia. In America he failed to tell the 18 yr old Stanley Ann Dunham that he was not divorced and convinced her to marry him. He was a womanizer. A friend in Hawaii speculates that his father didn’t want to be impeded by Obama and his mother from getting a Harvard education, although he was offered another opportunity from the New School for Social Research in New York that would have paid for his scholarship and family to come with him, but he was an ego maniac bent on proving he was the best. At Harvard he had an affair with another white woman Ruth Nidesand; while he was still married to Obama’s mother and to the wife he abandoned in Africa. Eventually Obamas mother discovered his bigamous double life and they were divorced or were “seperated” as Obama likes to describe it. Obamas father married Ruth after she followed him to Africa and they had two children, and he also kept going back to Kezia and had two more children with her.
Obama’s father was raised as a Muslim by birth and upbringing, his brother didn’t see him practice Islam, especially after he came back from his studies in the U.S. The Muslim minority in Kenya dates back to 1730 when Arabs from OMAN came to east Africa taking over the SLAVE TRADE from the Portuguese in Kenya. (It makes me wonder if Obamas ancestors were responsible for Michelles ancestors ending up in America?)
Obamas dad held several jobs in the government. He worked for SHELL OIL. (Aren’t SHELL OIL lobbyists on his campaign payroll?) He worked for the Ministry of Economic planning and development, the Ministry of Tourism. His family was close to Tom Mboya a corrupt and charismatic leader in Kenya, from the second largest tribe the LUO Tribe, the same tribe as Obamas family.
Obamas father was a scotch drinker and started drinking heavily when he experienced problems with the government and failed to achieve his potential. Although Obama blames his fathers troubles on tribalism which probably played a part, people around him acknowledge that it was his tendancy to talk about how smart he was and to brag in public that caused him to lose his job and the mercedes he used to drive and came home in a taxi. They attribute his being a boastful egomaniac and his weakness and inability to overcome the struggle with alcohol, that caused his problems and the car accidents that killed him.

If you go to the link below… scroll down until you see the download button for the 8-6-2008 show. The show also usually starts to play automatically on the website. But I prefer to download it and then when the Windows Media window pops up… I go to the File Menu at the top and choose Save As and then save it to my computer so you have the option to listen to it at your convenience.

As long as you are outside the candidate campaign line, you should be fine.

DENVER – Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is seeking a way for her delegates to be heard at the Democratic National Convention, telling supporters such a step will help unify a party that split between her and Sen. Barack Obama during their hard-fought nominating contest.

“I happen to believe that we will come out stronger if people feel that their voices were heard and their views respected. I think that is a very big part of how we actually come out unified,” Clinton, D-N.Y., told supporters last week at a California fundraiser. A video clip of her remarks was posted on YouTube.
“Because I know from just what I’m hearing, that there’s incredible pent up desire. And I think that people want to feel like, ‘OK, it’s a catharsis, we’re here, we did it, and then everybody get behind Sen. Obama.’ That is what most people believe is the best way to go,” she said.
The former first lady did not rule out the possibility of having her name placed into nomination at the convention, being held Aug. 25-28 in Denver. But she also said no decisions had been made.
“We are trying work all this through with the (Democratic National Committee) and with the Obama campaign,” said Clinton, who suspended her White House bid on June 7 and endorsed Obama, an Illinois senator.
Clinton campaign officials are negotiating with both parties to determine the full scope of her role at the convention. She is expected to deliver a prime-time address to delegates on Aug. 26, the second night of the gathering.
“We are working together to make sure the fall campaign and the convention are a success,” said a joint statement released late Wednesday by the Clinton and Obama campaigns. “At the Democratic Convention, we will ensure that the voices of everyone who participated in this historic process are respected and our party will be fully unified heading into the November election.”
Spokeswoman Kathleen Strand said Clinton believes “it’s important that her supporters have a voice in some way,” adding that no decisions have been made on how this would happen.
But advisers to the New York senator said she will almost certainly not ask to have her name placed in formal nomination at the convention, avoiding a divisive vote on the night Obama is expected to become the Democratic Party’s first black presidential nominee.
Under DNC rules, Clinton must submit a signed, written request to have her name placed in nomination, accompanied by a petition signed by at least 300 delegates. Some Clinton delegates have circulated such petitions, but the effort is meaningless without Clinton’s signed request.
Delegates are not formally pledged to any candidate so Clinton does not need to “release” them to Obama. The rules also say delegates may vote for the candidate of their choice whether or not the name of such candidate was placed in nomination.
DNC Chairman Howard Dean said in an interview last month that Clinton would have the right to put her name up for a binding vote at the convention.
“That’s totally up to her,” he said. “She is a duly registered candidate who got a lot of votes, and she is going to do what she wants to do.”
Meanwhile, Democratic officials announced Wednesday that more than half of the 75,000 tickets for Obama’s acceptance speech on Aug. 28, the convention’s fourth and final night, will go to residents of Colorado, a battleground state critical to the party’s hopes of winning the White House.
Obama will deliver his speech at Invesco Field at Mile High, home to football’s Denver Broncos. Nearly two-thirds of the tickets will go to residents of the West and Southwest, including Colorado, where Democrats have made inroads in recent elections.
“You don’t have to be a delegate or party insider to witness this historic moment firsthand,” Democratic National Convention Committee CEO Leah Daughtry said, announcing the plans for credentials.
Ticket selection was designed “to showcase the gains the party has made in the West,” she said.
Convention committee spokeswoman Natalie Wyeth declined to say how many tickets would be issued.
Last week, Obama campaign officials said they hope to turn the stadium crowd into a giant phone bank, with attendees using their cell phones to ask friends and others to register and vote.
The first three nights of the convention will be held at the 21,000-seat Pepsi Center.

I would encourage you to print off PUMA flyers tomorrow and hand them out at a local polling place in cleveland. If you get say four or five people interested, it is worth it.
Hillary won our state by a freaking landslide and our damn Democratic Governor, PHil Bredesen, and our state party chairman (who was included in today’s prowl and who I wrote to personally today), Gray Sasser all got their faces on the front page of the paper the day after the final primary excitedly talking about how they were supporting Obama.
Now, Mr. common sense government governor who couldn’t lift a freaking finger for HFJr two years ago wants to make sure that Obama has a “vigorous campaign” in Tennessee. That is crazy and is total evidence that some fenagiling with superdelegates went on from the Obama campaign

And all the news papers are saying the same thing, including Fox news tonight. the statement she made when she said…..(no decisions have been made yet) if you listen to the video, in the middle of what she was saying, someone shouted out “VICE PRESIDENT” and that is when she said no decisions have been made yet. I told them that I would never support such an in-experienced, arrogant, racist candidate for POTUS and that I was sick of his rabid supporters who will not try to have any kind of discussion. They just want to beat you down and make it very personal that you don’t like *him. I also had my say on his friends, his flip-flopping, his caucuses, and everything else that seems to be “just barely legal”. The site used to let us have discussions, but they don’t want discussions there, they want worshippers. so I left because I am not one and never will be one.

Finished my chores and checked in once more to see this. You’re right — BO had to do what he did because of the polls and pressure as a result of poor polling… but it’s gonna contribute to the whole irony of this situation and possibly the conclusion. But as far as telling anyone off… I’d wait and hold that pleasure until after convention to make sure things do go as we’re hoping. Oh gosh! I can’t sleep. I listened to pre-recorded radio tonight. I listen over and over again. I am optimistic Hillary would be the nominee. Before the primary ends for months I’ve been telling my friends if NOBAMA is the nominee due to selection, massive cheating in caucus statea, corruption committed by the DNC and bribery from NOBAMA, the democratic party will lose not just bid for the Whitehouse but all the way to the local level. The majority in house of representative and senate are very slim, the control of the house could tip over in GOP favor. They’re seeing now the effect of NOBAMA, a candidate in Memphis is using a race card against her opponent which I find totally shameful, but who started using the race card? BARACK HUSSEIN MOHAMMED OBAMA. He started it in NC, his campaign HQ passed a MEMO to campaigners and supporters to use the race card against Hillary Clinton. Tim Russert during Nevada debate wave to NOBAMA the MEMO from his campaign people, he had no choice but to ACKNOWLEDGE IT. NOBAMA is a POLARIZING candidatge without adding his ARROGANCE and KNOW IT ALL attitude. Add the other two, he is UNELECTABLE for PRESIDENT. It would be a landslide win for McCain if NOBAMA is the nominee, no amount of convincing from Hillary can change the minds of the people. It is NOT about Hillary, it is about DEMOCRACY, much bigger than Hillary, DNC and NOBAMA combined. Our vote against NOBAMA is standing up and speaking out against injustice, unfairness and UNDEMOCRATIC primary; we are fighting for SURVIVAL of AMERICA.
“An acorn doesn’t fall too far from the tree.” He is his father’s son. His father was hated by a lot of people in Kenya because he brag a lot (Nobama is doing the same thing), telling people he was very smart; NOBAMA is the same way when he says ” I have good judgement.” What are the basis for those judgement? If we look at his voting record in Chicago, he is, he has the habit of casting “PRESENT” vote or ” I push the wrong button.” That is what I call a SLICK POLITICIAN.

Obama’s Muslim affairs coordinator resigns

Obama’s campaign says it is looking for a new Muslim outreach adviser.
(CNN) — After barely a week on the job, Barack Obama’s Muslim outreach adviser resigned from the campaign after an old business connection with a fundamentalist Islamic imam surfaced last week.
Mazen Asbahi, a Chicago corporate lawyer, stepped down Monday after joining the campaign on July 26 as its national coordinator for Muslim affairs. The Wall Street Journal first reported the resignation on Tuesday night.
In a letter to the campaign, Asbahi wrote, “I am stepping down from the volunteer role I recently agreed to take on with the Obama campaign as Arab American and Muslim American outreach coordinator in order to avoid distracting from Barack Obama’s message of change.”
Asbahi served on the board of the Delaware-based Allied Assets Advisors Fund for a brief period in 2000 with Jamal Said, the imam of a fundamentalist mosque outside Chicago, the Wall Street Journal reports. The report links Said to fundamentalist groups Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood and says he was named by the Justice Department as an unindicted co-conspirator in the racketeering trial of suspected Hamas fundraisers that ended in a mistrial.
“I served on that board for only a few weeks before resigning as soon as I became aware of public allegations against another member of the board,” Asbahi wrote in his letter to the campaign.
The fund is a subsidiary of a company that promotes a conservative brand of Islam and Asbahi regularly speaks to groups with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, the newspaper reported.
“Mr. Asbahi has informed the campaign that he no longer wishes to serve in his volunteer position, and we are in the process of searching for a new national Arab American and Muslim American outreach coordinator,” Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt wrote in an e-mail.
Obama has had to balance dispelling rumors that he is a Muslim while trying not to offend Muslims.
“This is a classic example of a no-win situation, right?” Obama responded at a forum for minority journalists on July 27 when asked if he will visit a mosque as a candidate.
“I have repeatedly on various occasions said I am not a Muslim, but this whole strategy of suggesting that I am is indicative of anti-Muslim sentiment that we have to fight against.”
We need a list of people that are supporting Hillary that are up for re-election, so we can definitely support these people.

She needs people to come to her headquarters to sign for additional signatures to get on the ballot because many of her signatures were rejected.
You have to come to the headquarters to get new forms because the old forms and the forms on the website will not be accepted for these additional signatures.

GOP to Pelosi: Open These Doors So We Can Vote

Rep. Jeb Hensarling of Texas, one of nearly 100 Republican members of Congress who have come back to Washington to demand a vote on a comprehensive energy bill, held up a sign Tuesday with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office number on it and pointed toward the closed doors of the House chamber.
“We’re having people call this number and say, ‘Speaker Pelosi, Open those doors. Call us back into session and allow us to vote on a comprehensive energy plan.’”

Pence and other top Republicans said that they were “surprised” at how the impromptu protest that began on Friday, when Pelosi gaveled the House into an election-season recess, snowballed into a movement of outrage that has rocked voters from coast to coast.
Since then, Republican members of Congress have come back from their districts to occupy the House chamber so they can talk about the bipartisan energy bill that Pelosi refuses to bring to a vote, even though the House speaker pulled the plug on the microphones and the lights and ordered C-SPAN to turn off its TV cameras.
“Members are coming back to Capitol Hill, leaving behind their families, to take a stand for energy independence,” Pence said.
At times on Tuesday, the third day of the Republican protest, nearly all of the chamber’s 435 seats were filled with members, constituents, and tourists as lawmakers tried their best to project their voices without microphones to be heard.
“One woman told me she had driven two and a half hours just to be here,” said Colorado Rep. Marilyn Musgrave.
Monday, the Capitol police attempted to bar people who were visiting the Capitol building from entering the normally closed corridor leading to the Republican cloakroom, a tiny railroad-car type of an anteroom with a tiny kitchenette that leads onto the rear of the House floor.
So members of Congress went roaming the halls of the neighboring congressional office buildings, and personally escorted groups of constituents onto the floor so they could hear the Republican protest firsthand.
“Welcome to the people’s house,” Hensarling said when his turn came to speak in the well of the House on Tuesday.
Just over 100 people were sitting in the House chamber in the simple leather arm chairs normally occupied by the members of Congress. They erupted into applause again and again.
“Speaker Pelosi doesn’t understand in the salons of San Francisco the pain that Americans are feeling,” Hensarling drawled.
“This is America. It is not the Soviet Union. We want an up-and-down vote” on the American Energy Act, a comprehensive bill that not only calls for offshore drilling, but provides incentives for scores of other alternative energy programs and development.
Alluding to the fact that he was speaking without a microphone and without a camera, Hensarling concluded: “Nancy Pelosi cannot turn off the voice and the will of the American people.”
…Last year, Americans spent $433 billion on foreign oil, much of which was going to “countries that hate us or who aren’t our friends,” Shadegg said.
“We need to be producing more American-made energy,” Shadegg argued. “Nancy Pelosi and Mr. Obama are saying, we would rather pander to our environmentalist, elitist base and leave gas prices higher,” he added. “They’re saying to the least among us, too bad, you lose….

This thing about getting a birth certificate is strange because here in Michigan the hospital that my husband was born in burned down.
His mother went to try and get a new one for him and they insisted on her receiving one dating his birth when she reapplied instead of the original date.
My husband is 6 months older than me but his birth certificates states he is younger. His family says he is a year older and I believe them and him.
It’s confusing but this may be a State thing

Answer: A lot! Tomorrow, I am hitting the campaign trail for Senator Obama in Las Vegas, Nevada for a voter registration rally. I have talked so many people about the current economic situation, and what we can do to make the economy work for middle class families again. We have to deal with the cost of energy, both gas and home heating fuel. As you know, I believe we should have a Strategic Energy Fund to invest in developing alternative fuels, and I’ve now introduced legislation to help families deal with rising prices for home heating oil. Education costs are another concern: I’m glad to report that Congress just passed the Higher Education Opportunity Act, which includes several provisions from the Student Borrowers Bill of Rights I introduced to protect students and their families. And I’m working closely with business and elected leaders in New York to support projects around the state and it has been great to be back in New York again.
I’m especially proud of the work I’ve been doing with my friend Senator Patty Murray to stop the Bush administration from further restricting women’s access to birth control. They’re trying to redefine certain types of birth control as abortion, and it could prevent women from getting the care they need. I know many of my online supporters have been a big help on this issue, and I really appreciate it. And earlier this week , I called for an investigation into disturbing reports about inadequate response to sexual assaults by the Department of Defense .
I’m going to keep working on the issues you and I talked about so much during the campaign — ending the war in Iraq, making universal health care a reality, achieving energy independence, creating new green jobs, and putting the economy back to work for the middle class again.
I’m continuing to work on the issues that matter to the people of New York and helping my constituents in any way I can.

Answer: My goals include being the best Senator I can be, and to go on fighting every day for the issues I care about, helping America’s working families, and ensuring a better future for every child. I believe in the next fours years, we must ensure every American has healthcare, and our economy once again works for Middle Class families. As the war in Iraq comes to an end, we must restore America’s relations with our allies and our leadership around the world. I will continue to be an advocate for our troops and our veterans.

Thank you so much, Ivanna, for writing in. I have met so many wonderful young people all across this country who are so active and engaged in politics. It so important that young people get involved and stay involved because your are the future. As you look toward law school, learn all you can about the American constitution, which has served this country so well with its system of checks and balances and protecting the rights of every individual. My path in politics grew out of my commitment to public service and helping others. I realized that I could be most effective in helping to make a difference by becoming an elected official. It was actually a young woman who urged me to “Dare to compete.” That is a piece of advice I now pass on to you.

Hey Hillary you are such a great person I went to a rally of yours during the primary in New Hampshire & did some campaigning for you here in albany ny you put a smile on my face every time I saw you whether in person or on tv. You are a strong women don’t give up keep fighting for whats right. I hope our country can take a new step in the right direction once Barack Obama is president. I want to say if he does ask you to be his VP you should and you would make a great vice president Mrs. Clinton:)

I have said repeatedly that I will do whatever Senator Obama asks me to do. I am really focused and enjoying being back in the Senate and working on behalf of my New York constituents. This is Senator Obama’s decision and his alone and I am going to respect the privacy of that process by not discussing it.
