So if you fancy yourself the Democrats’ Karl Rove — an unbeatable master of politics and strategy, how come the Grand Tour was such a flop for your guy? UPDATE July 26, 2008 at 9:47am: Puma PAC received a $3,000 donation on Thursday. We are enormously grateful and humbled by the generosity of the gift. Margie’s daughter J, who set up the donation, sent an email this morning, part of which I’d like to share with you:

There are so many women everywhere who wish that they could give, just don't put a
name to it.  You could use my mother's name Margie.  I cannot really type much
without crying but she was so excited about Hillary, as was I, and her life was much
like what the DNC did to Hillary so this has been doubly painful.  

Also, I am getting ready to meet with a group of VIP's next week and I am going to
encourage them to join and match.   If I hadn't given so much to Hillary, I would
have had more.  Never in my life have I wished for money more than now.  I rescue
everything--from people to animals--so I don't have much.  However, if I win the
lottery it will be yours and Hillarys.

Thank you so much Margie and J. Your contribution will go a LONG way to helping Puma PAC be the strongest and most effective Voice of the Voters in American history. We will be working every day and night to make sure that stories like your mother’s, and Hillary’s, become part of the past.

A fun treat for tonight Puma PAC. Riverdaughter and I will be joining Sherri at No We Won’t Radio for the first installment of the Lion’s Share — an evening of fun and planning, from 8-10pm eastern. Confluence regulars Mawm and Gary Chapel Hill will join us for Denver updates, and we’ll be performing a radio play by the talented Madamab! It should be great fun — tune your internet dials here, and join the conversation. The Listener Line is: 347-539-5420.

Speaking of Denver. Folks, each bus costs between $8,000 and $14,000 (depending on starting point). Puma PAC members have been VERY generous, but to be brutally honest, we are going to have to raise quite a bit more to get a bus traveling to Denver from New York, Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago, and Jacksonville — that’s over $60,000. SO, have a drink tonight at the Lion’s Share and join the fun. A beer or glass of wine costs $10. Mixed drinks are $20. But feel free to tip generously if you can. Water is always free!

According to Riverdaughter, Women Count PAC has gone over to the dark side. Ah, well. That’s a shame. They are urging members to attempt to change the Democratic platform from WITHIN the Obama Movement, by attending local platform meetings with a positive (yet assertive!) attitude of optimism and pragmatism. Best of luck! Wish I could say that their cheeriness inspires me with new hope, but . . . I’m afraid not.

According to Women Count PAC, this is what we should be requesting that our masters, oops! I mean our “leadership” include in the platform:

“We acknowledge that the 2008 Democratic primary election exposed pervasive gender bias in the media during the campaign. From now on, when we see examples of this behavior, our Party leadership will take immediate and public steps to condemn it.”

And if they don’t acknowledge? Then what? And what does “take immediate and public steps to condemn it” even mean? Some DNC apparatchik will be tasked with forming a committee to dialogue around issues of biased representation with the goal of forming a task force, drafting six revised versions of a statement, and presenting a power-point show at a meeting sometime next February? Uh-huh. Which will likely put WCP in the position of our old friend Minnie, every time ol’ Mickey let her down:

Me? I guess I’m content to stay FAR away from cozy, insider platform sessions where every rough edge of conflict is sanded off in advance to protect the sensibilities of the cossetted weaklings who don’t even pretend to lead anymore, every bright spot of intelligent insight is dulled down by the complacent myopia of privilege, and every spark of courageous challenge is quenched by the implacable dreariness of cowards.

Or, to put it more bluntly, rather than begging the Obama Movement to let me sit at the Table of Greatness and Mighty Transformative Power, presided over by our Dear Leader, I’d rather reflect on images like this and make MY OWN PLANS.
