As you know, Senator Obama met behind closed doors yesterday with all of the House Democratic Caucus, some of whose members are also SD’s. He spoke of standing before 200,000 adoring fans in Germany, remarking to his Congressional colleagues, ‘This is the moment the world is waiting for…’ Evidently, some of them found the Senator’s remarks off-putting, and repeated these to reporters. This gave me an idea. Perhaps we should tell the members of the House Democratic caucus that the size of audience for BO’s speeches is carefully choreographed by his campaign. And this will get them to thinking: when it comes to everything Obama, nothing is what it seems.

Okay, I just want to see if I have the story straight, it is huge if it is and it sounds like it fits with what Ray said the other night on the radio with Murphy.
Hillary has 200 supers or (regular delegates? ) signatures, certified. She only needs 100 more to be placed in nomination if *61 does not want her to be. These 300 signatures will over ride his veto.
Next, if this is on the radio, who is Momma E, and how does she know this? Why is Hillary afraid. Was John Edwards really threatened?
How do we know if this is true? Why would this be in the papers tomorrow?
We need to know the facts before we flash it all over Hell and back.

Apparently, we lost connection but it’s very important. They are working with supers in secret, they have over 200 signatures which are notarized and are going to be held secret until convention. Hillary is petrified and beaten down, the supers have been threatened with losing their campaigns if they don’t vote for BO; John Edwards came out the next day after she won WVa because he was threatened with the scandal of his mistress and love child if he didn’t back Obama.. Also 3 Obama delegates from CO signed on for Hillary. Said that Hillary would sign to be placed in nomination of she had the 300+ signatures and knew that the 18m were backing her. Still waiting for it to come back on.

Didn’t they throw out two states for not following the rules? Why hasn’t Obama come up with a legitimate birth certificate? We are not saying that he is not a citizen but that an American birth certificate is the rules and we want a party who feels so strongly about rules to follow them. If they cannot follow rules than I think Michigan and Florida votes should count and they give back the delegates they stole in Michigan and give it back to Hillary?

Unfortunately, the conservative hosts and shows are not on our side anymore. They want Obama to be the nominee, I’ve heard countless Republicans say that they would much rather go up against Obama than Hillary, and the polls showed that she did much better against McCain (By the way, Obama dropped again in the Gallup poll).
So, they don’t want to run the risk of reporting too much on PUMAs because they’re afraid it could cause the SDs to vote with Clinton.

Since it’s commonplace for candidates to give money to smaller campaigns, has anyone checked to make sure there aren’t a lot of examples of situations where Clinton’s donations exceeded Obama’s? Otherwise, this can be used against our argument, as if we’re just cherry picking as opposed to a consistent pattern. Just wondering.

The headline on the website of German magazine Der Spiegel about Barack Obama’s speech in Berlin: “Huge Crowds Left with Mixed Feelings.”Two hundred thousand turned out for the speech, but CNN’s Candy Crowley reported an “absence of euphoria” at the event.
As Senator Obama went global with 10 “Yes, we can” and “Change we can believe in” he left at least some of the horde in Berlin scratching their heads. Perhaps these Germans, out to hear what all the excitement was about, were looking for leadership and substance rather than kumbaya.
What they got was the global version of “There is not a White America and a Black America and Latino America and Asian American America — there is the United States of America.”
Obama spoke not just as a “proud citizen of the United States but a fellow citizen of the world.”
His message: “The walls between races and tribes, natives and immigrants, Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand. These now are the walls we must tear down.”
At least some of the Germans listening to Obama surely sensed there was something problematic with what he was saying. His analogy of the tearing down of the Berlin wall to tearing down all lines of distinction between nations and religions was obviously fractured. The Berlin wall was a political wall that divided one people. It separated Germans from other Germans, a far cry from distinctions between nations and religions that Obama apparently wants to obliterate.
The German, French and British each have a strong sense of national history and identity.
Efforts for a European Union constitution that would establish links in Europe going beyond economics and extending to politics have thus far failed.
Perhaps the realities of Europe delivered an unanticipated surprise to the slick marketing machine driving the Obama presidential campaign.
Unlike in the United States, where you drive coast to coast and hear one language, where national culture is at least as influential and pervasive as regional differences, Europe consists of different countries. When you get to national borders, languages and cultures change.
For Obama, differences seem to be what cause the world’s problems. We endlessly hear the story of his mixed-race background and his translation of his personal history into a message of the meaninglessness of difference.
It may come as a surprise to Obama, but for Christians, for Muslims, and for Jews, their differences do not amount to barriers to a better world but sources of meaning that define themselves and the world.
They want to be Christians, Muslims, and Jews. They just want protection. They want to be able to be who they are and live peacefully and securely. Those disturbing this security are the problem. Not the differences.
Which gets to Obama’s very problematic idea about freedom.

Oh my, the woman that hired me (not the woman I work for) is an *61 supporter. Just came to my office and was handing out MoveOn *61 stickers. Someone emailed it to me yesterday via a Foreward, and when I ran my mouse over the links this is the url address that I saw:

Today, those links are gone as well as the images which displayed Hillary’s banner and contribute buttons.
So my conclusion is that this is a SPOOF email and should not be taken seriously, lest you give away your important private information to an unknown source.

I just called the DNC to ask if Hillary’s name will be “put into nomination” and they said yes. So, I repeated it and emphasized that it would be in nomination and there would be a roll call and he said yes. I then said, so she can win and he said yes, well, it’s unlikely. I reminded him that the 18M people who voted for her were watching and that we would be a the convention. If you want to make one more call, give it a shot.

Also, called Re. Shea-Porter’s office and they referred me to her office in New Hampshire for campaign and financing questions. Oddly, I hadn’t even gotten that far in my spiel for her to know whaat I wanted, must have been psychic.
Called the other number 603-531-9663 and spoke to Kerry. I gave my talk and ofcourse, she said that Rep. Shea-Porter had chosen noname because she felt he was the better candidate. I said that is not what her constituents (me) said as they voted for Senator Clinton by 14 points in her district and 2 points in New Hampshire. I also said it was odd that she was given a large sum of money by Senator Obama and then endorsed him. I strongly urged her to reconsider her vote to vote for Senator Clinton in Denver as that is whaat her constituents wanted. Kerry said she would pass the message along.

I’ve only been lurking this morning as I’ve been working on other things. However, when things get a little feisty, I find it helps to remember two questions:
1. If Hillary were reading the blog, would she be pleased by or proud of what we write?
2. Do our posts reflect the greatness that Hillary inspires in us? The tolerance? The acceptance? The desire for a better world?
These questions always ground me when I find I’m getting a little silly or sensitive in what I write.

working on getting the minimum number of Delegates on the petition to place Hillary’s name on the ballot in nomination at the Convention, which is 300. The maxium number we can have is 600. So anything we can get over 300 is gravy and good for a show of support. There is a young lady in California that is heading this effort up and she needs help in some of the states. She has all of the forms for each state. Her name is Michele and you can reach her at hrcdelegate@yahoo.com. The only Delegates that can sign the petition are District Delegates, PLEO Delegates that were elected to go to the Convention and Super Delegates. We are working on all of the Delegates that are pledged to Hillary. Ask Michele if you can help and have her send you the Delegate list from your State that is going to the Convention and that are pledged to Hillary. This list will give their name and the town they live in and then you will have to contact them by phone by calling information and getting their phone number. Ask Michele to tell you how they are contacting them and what you are to say to convince them to sign the petition.
The next thing you need to do is call Hillary’s offices and Bill’s office and say what I have written below the phone numbers, and make Sen Clinton aware that we are getting the signatures needed to place her in nomination. We understand shes done her part we will take it from here

At this point I have only very general information about Clinton delegate efforts to assemble a nominating petition that could be used to put Senator Clinton’s name in nomination in Denver this August. The reason I lack concrete information has everything to do with the climate being created by the current DNC leadership and nothing at all to do with the courage or stamina of the Clinton delegates.
The DNC has done everything they can to chill efforts by delegates to produce a nominating petition on behalf of Senator Clinton. This particularly disturbs me because the delegates involved in any such effort would simply be following the DNC’s own rules as put forth in the Call to the Convention. When an institution discourages its own most central members from using the institution’s own procedures, something has gone terribly wrong.
Top DNC officials signal that delegates who do not go along with the new script, rather than the official rules, will suffer retaliation. We need to make it clear that no authentically democratic Democratic Party would treat its own delegates this way. By doing so, I hope we can fortify the delegates who choose to exercise their right to participate in producing a nominating petition.
This issue goes beyond the question of whether Senator Clinton decides, using her own best judgment, whether to sign such a petition. It goes to the heart of the crisis that has befallen the Democratic Party, a crisis of conscience. The official national leadership, the DNC, shows no signs of limiting their efforts to mislead the American public about the current state of the nomination process. That same leadership wants to ignore, diminish, or punish any Democrat who resists these efforts.
The delegates, Democrats who worked hard to enjoy the privilege of representing the voters of their respective states at the Democratic National Convention, deserve better. If the DNC will not honor them, then it is up to us, rank and file Democrats, to do so.
In that spirit, let me say to any Clinton delegate who exercises his or her right to sign a nominating petition: you are the truest Democrats of all. You represent not only those who cast ballots on behalf of Senator Clinton. You evidence the bravery and the integrity that characterize American democracy at its best.

I think that fundraiser is just to show that Hillary and Richardson are together helping BHO. Maybe they want to use that opportunity to start showing that Hillary is campaigning for BHO–sort of like a UNITY thing. My thoughts on Richardson (and I did not read the article so perhaps I am speaking out of turn)- I wonder if he is pissed that he isn’t on the short list for veep? He was one of the first to jump ship, he is Hispanic and could help carry the SW.
I myself am hopeful that Obama picks Kaine, he seems even less experienced than the empty suit so my hope is Americans would wake up out of the kool-aide coma and realize this is not a beauty contest, it is the freaking POTUS!!

Hi all – looks like there was some controversy on the blog today- but I was at work so missed most of the thread. I did see tho’, that someone wants to know if anyone made headway into the Western Wall pr stunt.
I did put a call into my Israeli friend to see if he could check the veracity of the conflicting stories we’re reading about the Wailing Wall controversy. He hasn’t called back yet but I’ll keep you updated.
Also, my husband traveled to Israel in April on an economic development trip and met the American Israeli Ambassador, while he was there. I thought about asking him to see if he could get an interpretation for me, but he already feels like I’m totally obsessed (lost 15 lbs. this summer and can’t sleep most nights), and I know he feels like he would be enabling me! He’s quite worried and wants me “chill”. That said, I’ll keep working my angles and get whatever information I can get from whomever! Promise!

In follow up to my previous post, I think the only way Obama is going to establish and maintain a signficant lead is if he buys beer for the entire world every day (ro whatever your beverage of choice is), orders billions of pizzas (or whatever anyone would like), makes speeches in front of a backdrop painted to look like throngs of adoring fans, has a subdued moment here and there when lost in apparent prayer, keeps paying superdelegates, and promises that everything will be just perfect for everyone if they elect him. Short of that, I think he’s sunk.

As much as I wouldn’t want to see Obama in the White House under any circumstances, I probably would vote for a Clinton/Obama ticket for Hillary’s sake. I think what happens sometimes is that some of us work very hard accomplishing the days goals and coming here at night can be like happy hour. The focus is off, all of the news has been analyzed and responded to by 10 pm. Others who cannot access computers or get online during the day come here wanting info and action and they encounter banter.

Hi PUMAs, last night 7/29 a few NY PUMAs met in Union Square to “flyer” the area. We talked the talk to lots of passers-by and I even took a few pictures:
Kerri and I met Nairoby at about 6:30 and set up our table and signage, and piles of flyers and business cards. We were a bit timid at first until we “found our voice”. We engaged quite a few passersby and had some wonderful conversations and even met another Hillary supporter who was walking with a home-made “Give Hillary Another Chance” sign. So we joined ranks and even directed him to JSND and PUMAPac sites. Jessi joined us after her Pelosi watch in Times Square, and that’s when things really started to cook! Jessi is never at a loss for words and she certainly gave us more visibility. Overall the reception and reactions we got were Hillary-positive, and I am sure that some people know a little more about the debacle of the DNC. We plan on having a PUMA presence in Manhattan twice a week until the convention.

The second, with our name and the word Pride gives the slogan added meaning, for the dual, or more, meanings of “pride” as in a pride of lions. Pumas are a Pac, and a Pack fo cats, and loosely, a Pride of Pumas. Anyway, I like slogans fraught with meanings.
I am a lurker and do not post very often..Damn, some of you people need to lighten up. I do all that is asked of me here, daily growls and all,also some other things on my own. Everyone here has different but wonderful personalities, that is a good thing, is it not? Very often as of late I see alot of chastising, this one for this and that one for that, this is a disgruntled group of people with the same goal, everyone needs to recognize that. When did this site become the thought and word police? That seems counterproductive, we are all entitled to free speech, by limiting that you are taking pages right out of the Obama playbook. What can be said, obviously not banana, that according to this site is racist. Does that mean if you here believe that, than none of you would object to a name change of that word if NOBAMA becomes the nominee or god help us even the president.It is absurd, all of it, and it is utter nonsense…FREE SPEECH PEOPLE. I read every post everyday and you are all guilty of name calling. I guess name calling is o.k. as long as you get to decide what names are deemed appropriate. The convention isn’t that far away guys. This is crunch time. We need to be a tight knit, well oiled machine. We have been making prgress and I’d hate for us to lose any momentum because of some off topic or off color remarks.
From now on it’s going to get very stressful (moreso than before) and we need to stay close together and positive.

You are correct in your evaluation. Many PUMAs work during the day and come here to catch up on the day’s news or actions. We are also on every time zone so you never know who is looking in here when.

The number of emails I get from members who are very unhappy with the direction this blog is taking is increasing. Haven’t you noticed that some of the regulars aren’t so regular anymore? Not to mention the emails I get about all the places that our *questionable* posts have popped up on the internet as well as our infighting.
All of these make us look WEAK. And I know this movement and this mission is not weak. But THEY don’t. Talk is cheap. Show them.
What happens in Devner and November will affect your life for the next four years. I am not willing to play games with my daughter’s future.
I respect free speech and I respect everyone’s right to their own expressions. But I also realize that we are in this TOGETHER, and each member is a reflection of the whole when you represent this group on this blog.

Why all this strife? Because highly intelligent, results-oriented people like us can’t understand why our political system is so broken. The answers seem so simple. But we are powerless to change it … at least powerless to change it quickly.
Alas, when I get frustrated, I have to fall back on lessons learned from fiction. Good stories keep the audience in suspense as long as possible. Good stories drag out the conflict and keep upping the stakes. Those are necessary ingredients to create a satisfying ending.
Think, dear Pumas, of how great the victory will be when Hillary emerges with the nomination in August. And it will be sweeter yet for all that we have endured to get there.

I was surprised that MSNBC brought up the Milbank article too! (Can you all tell that I listen to 24-hr cable noise far too much?) MSNBC had up for at least 5 minutes in the 9am hour the title “Presidential or Presumptuous?”
Thanks for the compliment on the post. The point really was that the MSM is finally starting to take some notice of Obama’s arrogance.

Maybe because we are all individuals? Many of us have to walk on eggshells all day long. Those of us who have to deal with the public must smile and never say what we believe. If we were to do so we could count on being out of work.
So when we get amongst our own kind maybe we do let it out a little too much on occasion. That offends some others here who are more serious minded. I understand and appreciate that.
I’ve been lurking here since Hillary suspended her campaign. You guys are awesome! I thought I was a die-hard Hill fan but I’m just amazed at the efforts that Murphy, Heidi Lee, you all and others have put in. Thank you all so much. You guys are the one bright light that shines through the dark cloud that has now enveloped this election season.
I’m writing today because I just really need to vent. I’ve been upset by election results before, most notably when Bush “won” against Gore. But i’ve never felt so sick and ill to my stomach as with Obama. Everything that this man represents: the arrogance, the total disregard to women’s progress, the phonyness, the self-centeredness, the bullcrap that comes out of the mouths of him and his wife and his latcheys, the full-of-himself delight in celebrity that he can’t even hide his salivating after fame, the hypocrisy, the elitist attitude and condescension when he speaks. I can go on and on.
None of these is what I want to see in my president. I never thought I would dislike a president more than George W. Bush but Obama has done it. I loathe and detest Obama more than I dislike W. Bush and his policies. I never thought a day would come when I would say that I think W. Bush has more character integrity than another Presidential candidate. W ranks very low on my list so to me Obama absolutely bottoms out.
I am hoping against hope that the man will never set foot in the White House and be able to call it home. He is an abominination. Anyone who supports him has disgraced our country by so doing.
It’s totally sickening to see the circus now that is trying to carry him to the White House.

What does No. 8 mean?
Re: nature of posts
1. This is a large and diverse group of folks.
2. Murphy seems to provide a lot of lattitude regarding what is posted, while also defining some parameters she has outlined in terms of what crosses the line in terms of what is and isn’t acceptable.
3. Any blog of this sort confronts the conundrun of balancing free speech with whatever the moderator and the participants as well, decide the tone should be.
4. Contrary to what some post, I don’t think we all “love” each other here. We don’t even know each other. There are a lot of us. We have fake names and internet identities. In any case, I don’t think “loving” each other is required to get good work done. The idea that we all love each other feels like the faux unity the Democratic Party is trying to impose. Let’s be honest. Various folks feel more or less sympatico with others. That’s the nature of groups.
5. As I would often say to my students at the university where I used to teach performing arts: It’s not as much about WHAT you do, as HOW you do it. On this point, I think a fair amount of us get into some conflicts.
6. For me, I feel that one should remain dignified if at all possible, even under pressure. I also feel aware of how this blog is open for all the world to see and our discourse can be lifted by anyone. In addition, newcomers to the blog read these posts and it gives them a sense of whether this is a community they want to be a part of, or not. I’ve had several friends and colleagues prefer not to participate because they felt it just wasn’t a place that felt comfortable for them. I’ve felt like that several times myself. However, I come back because it gets isolating and lonely doing this work by myself and being part of a community is a welcome relief. Though, sometimes what I find is not an atmosphere I’m comfortable with and I either comment and/or leave.
7. I think that demeaning discourse, name-calling, and other venting of this sort diminishes our legitimacy and serves to confirm what many have used to discredit us. I won’t reitterate the kinds of things I’ve seen posted here that support that, but suffice it to say that it’s been a frequent occurence every day, which is really disappointing.
That’s my two cents about how we’re doing what we’re doing.
Let’s stay focused. We only have a month left to cram in as much action as we can.
I have got to say all of the fussing around makes you guys feel like a real family.
Something really strange happened to me today. A woman I work with who is probably 60 and can be very spiritual or at least is open to all kinds of spirituality dropped by while I was working and started telling me how BO is an incarnation of Jesus Christ and has come to start a new world order. That there is nothing anyone can do to stop him because he comes with Gods protection. Apparently after the election our world is going to be restored to Gods vision. I am not making this up. I thought you guys would get a bang out of it.
Of course I don’t bother to argue with people like this. I do have a genuine affection for her as she seems so vulnerable. I kind of feel like if she has 3 months of thinking God has arrived I hate to take that feeling from her. But I hate it that the BOites are preying on these simple people.
