Spent the evening with Diane and Liz from JSND — GREAT time — lots of gossip, but a bit late for me, so pardon my being somewhat behind this morning.
I also spoke with the group that is lobbying delegates — short story: KEEP IT UP PUMA PAC! We are being heard and we are providing a service for those Hillary delegates who are being pressured by the Obama Movement to fall in line and keep their mouths shut.
I heard that there’s evidence that many delegates pretended to be Hillary supporters in order to be assigned to her but fully intended to back Obama at the Convention from the beginning. Not sure if it’s true, but it fits the pattern.
Also heard that the Mile High Coronation has got tons of Dems royally p’d off — many Clinton delegates arent even going to attend — which is good, in a way — but in another way it’s just another example of the Obama Movement intimidating Hillary’s voters into silence.

Quick little story about Audacity.
Living In fayetteville Arkansas ( Clinton Country ) a few years ago my nieces and I protested at a local Wal Mart for pulling a t-shirt from their shelves because it was offensive to some shoppers. ( the shirt read “someday a woman will be president” )
My nieces are now grown young women, married with families.
The youngest is Holly, she wed a black man ( we are white ) they have two beautiful children as well. Holly made it a point to call me to say.. that as much as she wanted to support the Obama movement; she felt in her heart that this may be her only chance to vote for a qualified female candidate in her lifetime. She said, those moments of standing up for what she believed in as a child shaped her decision to support Senator Clinton.
So the point that I want to make is …. My family has marched for Civil Rights annualy for MLK. We are proud democrats. We are not just 40 and over angry women. We are young, we are mothers, we are wed to different ethnic groups and we are Democrats by the truest meaning of the word.
The young women in my family are now old enough to vote. THEY VOTE CLINTON. The Obama campaign has the Audacity to call us racist, bitter and older. They need to do thier homework and stop the lies.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that Barack Obama’s Berlin bounce is gone. Obama now attracts 44% of the vote while John McCain earns 42%. When “leaners” are included, it’s Obama 47% and McCain 46%. Compared to a week ago, Obama has gained a single percentage point (see recent daily results).
However, the week’s polling showed a roller-coaster of opinion surrounding Obama’s big speech. The event in Berlin was well-covered and initial reviews on the speech were positive. Polling on Thursday and Friday nights was very strong for the Democrat, leading to a six-point advantage in our Saturday morning release. However, polling for the past three days shows no trace of a bounce. The data looks very similar to results from the period preceding the speech and, with fourteen weeks to go, the race for the White House is a toss-up. Tracking Polls are released at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time each day.

Well, if anyone asks, just let them know that when the media “targets” women over 40, they need to remember that many of us have significant others and we have brothers and sisters, children, and (me) grandchildren. My husband sees the discrimination going on in the media, and so does my brother. My daughter is starting to get “politically” minded and she is not easily duped.
The United States did not emerge without women. One has to remember, that all women make up a large percentage of the United States.
I am going to address all of my representatives and let them know that when they address me, they address several people in my immediate family. Darn, wish I had more of them.

Your comment about the dishonest delegates can also be made about many campaign workers. Many of us campaign volunteers in Pittsburgh felt something wasn’t right about the direction we were (or weren’t) getting here during the primary… very, very suspect (many of us went out on our own). Still, Hillary won by 12%.

Just wanted to say I did respond back to the super delegate that wrote me yesterday.
I also sent an e-mail to the Just Say No people in regards to a project request. The e-mail I sent to them with the project idea is below if you have any interest:
As you must be aware of our last hope of Senator Clinton becoming the democratic nominee is approaching quickly. Our last hope is based exclusively on the Super Delegates at the Denver Convention.
My request as a supporter of Senator Clinton and a user of several of the Just Say No Deal web sites is to make a concentrated coalition writing campaign to all of Senator Obama’s Super Delegates and the Uncommitted Super delegates. The Democratic Party is not unified BUT we as Senator Clinton’s supporters must unify if we have any hope of Senator Clinton becoming the nominee.
I would like to suggest that a writing campaign be established and the entire Just Say No coalition takes part. I am assuming there is a e-mail list among all of the webmasters in the coalition. If that is true the writing campaign would be very effective if the request could be sent out to this e-mail list requesting that the webmasters; post the request to their blogs and also send the request out to their user base via e-mail list if they have one.
The reason for not only posting the request to their blog but also sending to their userbase e-mail list is; not everyone reads or takes part in a web site’s blog, this will increase the effectiveness of the request if also sent to their e-mail list.
My recommendation for writing super delegates is; include a template letter that a person can quickly copy and paste to send to the delegates (this is most effective when people have no idea where to start in writing a letter and for people who have very limited time). The letter should be short and to the point. The question then becomes what data base or site do you use to send these e-mails out to the super delegates?
The http://www.lobbydelegates.com/ web site is okay, a bit time consuming and the data base are clearly not up to date, lots of rejected e-mail addresses. I know that http://politicallydrunk.blogspot.com/2008/07/last-stand-email-initiative-for-puma.html
has a pretty good up to date data base for the super delegates perhaps working with the person who designed that site might be a good way to.
I realize you must get a lot of e-mail, are extremely busy and this may not even be read but in my opinion our last chances are coming up quickly and I do firmly believe our only hope is changing the minds of the super delegates. Thank you very much for your time. Best regards.

On “Fox and Friends,” Mark Halperin said the race is closer than many may believe. I received a call-back from Sen. Geller’s office this a.m. regarding dropping the lawsuit to seat Fl’s delegates. No matter how much I argued, the answer was that Sen. Geller was dropping the lawsuit because BO told him the delegates would be seated at the convention. I told him that did Hillary no good and he argued it was the fault of Howard Dean that they are not seated and not Obama. Can’t argue with these people. I said all I could and had to hang up.

Hillary supporters are contributing to her so she can pay off debt. We are being heard so we just need to stay on track and continue to make a difference. Just Called FL DNC and got into a divisive argument with her. There are tons of delegates at that website, no numbers to contact. Also, she would have to speak to her supervisor to give me numbers. Also asked for the petition for delegates to sign, no response on that. How can we get delegates to sign if we can’t contact them?
Also called Howard Dean’s office and the woman told me Hillary’s name would be on the roll call and I told her I wanted her name in nomination. She emphatically told me Obama would be the nominee, no ifs ands or buts. GRRROWWLLLL!
I continue to think that Hillary will not be the nominee as they will not let it happen. He needs to implode, even if his numbers go down, they are emphatic. This is absolutely ridiculous.

The chairman of the Republican Party in Virginia is warning people not to register to vote:
Frederick is calling on Gov. Timothy M. Kaine (D) and Attorney General Robert F. McDonnell (R) to launch an investigation. Frederick is also urging residents to avoid giving their names or social security numbers to canvassers seeking to register voters.
“Identity theft is widespread problem in Virginia,” Frederick said. “Today, I am encouraging voters who have filed out any of these voter registration forms to immediately contact their registrars, and Virginians should exercise caution when approached by a stranger who asks them for their information.”
Frederick’s warning comes as Obama is deploying volunteers across Virginia to try to register 151,000 new voters by the Oct 6 deadline. Various non-profit organizations are also trying to register new voters, especially African-Americans.

Who’s Paying for the Conventions?

The election season is heating up, with back-to-back conventions approaching—the Democrats in Denver followed by the Republicans in St. Paul, Minn. The conventions have become elaborate, expensive marketing events, where the party’s “presumptive” nominee has a coronation with much fanfare, confetti and wall-to-wall media coverage. What people don’t know is the extent to which major corporations fund the conventions, pouring tens of millions of dollars into a little-known loophole in the campaign-finance system.
Stephen Weissman of the nonpartisan Campaign Finance Institute explains the unconventional funding:
“It’s totally prohibited to give unlimited contributions to political parties. It’s totally prohibited for a corporation or a union to just go right into its treasury and give money to political parties. Yet, under an exemption that was created by the Federal Election Commission, which essentially is made up of representatives of the two major parties, all of this money can be given if it’s given through a host committee under the pretense that it’s merely to promote the convention city.”
According to CFI’s new report, “Analysis of Convention Donors,” since the last presidential election, the corporations funding the conventions have spent more than $1.1 billion lobbying the federal government. Add to it the millions they pour into the conventions. Says Weissman: “In return for this money, the parties, through the host committees, offer access to top politicians, to the president, the future president, vice president, cabinet officials, senators, congressmen. They promise these companies who are giving that they will be able to not only get close to these people by hosting receptions, by access to VIP areas, but they’ll actually have meetings with them.”
Disclosure of what corporations are giving is not required until 60 days after each convention, which is essentially Election Day, so there is no time to challenge a candidate on particular corporate donors. Weissman reports that most of the corporations that are giving to the convention “host committees” also have serious business before the federal government. Take AT&T, for example. Glenn Greenwald of Salon.com recently pointed out that the Democratic conventioneers and registered media in attendance will receive a tote bag prominently emblazoned with the AT&T logo. It’s a perfect metaphor for a much larger gift, the one Democrats and Republicans just gave AT&T and other telecoms: retroactive immunity for spying on U.S. citizens. While Sens. Russ Feingold and Chris Dodd fought the bill, Sen. Barack Obama, until recently a staunch opponent of telecom immunity, reversed his position and supported it, reneging on a pledge to filibuster. Perfect timing.
The conventions are also training grounds for the next generation of elected officials. Many state legislators attend the conventions as delegates, where they marinate in the ways of big-money politics. From the corporate parties to the hospitality suites, they learn that there is nothing to be gained by challenging the status quo.
Obama has sworn off special-interest and lobbying money for his campaign, and he made historic strides in using the Internet to marshal millions of small donors and amass a campaign war chest with $72 million in cash on hand at the end of June. Yet the Denver convention is looking more and more like business as usual. Weissman writes in his report, “Lavish conventions with million-dollar podiums, fancy skyboxes and Broadway production teams are not necessary to the democratic process.”
What is necessary, Weissman says, is stripping soft money out of the convention process: “Congress should pass a law that says no more soft money for these conventions, no corporate treasury, union treasury, no unlimited individual money. Instead, the parties—let’s discard this host-committee fiction—can go out there and ask people to help the convention, but with the same limits where they’re asking people to help them normally.”
“Deep Throat” is said to have told Bob Woodward during Watergate to “follow the money.” It looks as if this summer you need only go to the Democratic and Republican national conventions. It’s time to close this loophole.

Thanks for your concern 1gypsy4mc. I honestly don’t think PUMAs are in danger if they remain peaceful and stay in groups. As they say, this isn’t my first rodeo, protesting in Berkeley to end the Viet Nam war was pretty frightening at times, and this is another cause I really believe in and it’s worth the risk. They are counting on older women being afraid and expected to back down………….they forget my generation is big on peaceful protesting for the common good. No mace, no weapons, just heart and sole on the line!

I hope everyone is still wearing thier buttons when thier out and about. I was wearing my Hillary and the seven dwarfs button yesterday and got some really good responses. One cashier at my local Safeway leaned over and read it, then smiled so hard I thought the top of her head would fall off. Obviously she couldn’t say anything because she was working. That’s great! I taught my son to yell “HILLARY” during the primaries and whenever he saw that I was watching the results he said: “Mommy, let’s yell HILLARY”! My uncle and my grandfather always laugh at it. After the primaries my son still said from time to time “Mommy, let’s yell Hillary” and then he’d say “Mommy, Hillary won”!
He’s 4.5 years old. I am very worried about him starting Kindergarten in August because of his pacemaker.

OB is desperate… Fox News is reporting that women over 40 could lose the election for OB. They have dissected the poll number to understand why OB has not gotten traction in a race that should favor the Dems. McCain has a big opening in this demographic. Women over 40 (Hillary supporters) have not fallen in line because most of us have personally experienced sexism and take Hillary’s treatment personally. We are experienced, intelligent and the backbone of the Democratic Party. So yes, they have a big problem and it is too late to fix it unless Hillary is nominated. MO prancing around in a Jackie style dress does not make her husband JFK and her recent phoney speech in Chicago praising Hill does not appeal to women who remember her tactics in the primary. I have principles and will vote for my country over a corrupt party, but I will not stay home in November. I own my vote and I will vote.

It’s bad enough that Senator Obama campaigned in Europe on our tax dollars. As a voter, I drew the line at using the Wailing Wall, a sacred site, for media publicity by first pretending someone else desecrated the Wall to retrieve his prayer and then admitting that he was the one who gave the media a copy of the prayer. The United States of America should be trying to improve its world-wide image, not further degrade it. Up until now, we have been very lucky that regardless of whether Democrats or Republicans are in power, America has been supportive of Israel.

I went to the HuffingtonPost site where one can look up one’s neighborhood i.e. zipcode to find who contributed to whom ..so far I see some 1st quarter results with older results also. I was thinking I might launch my own postcard campaign ..first to the targeted area around me, zipcode and then beyond to other zips in my area. I am concerned as we get closer to convention and election beyond with a different message: I am concerned that we reach and begin to reach beyond those who are online people. What do some of you think of this idea?

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that Barack Obama’s Berlin bounce is gone. Obama now attracts 44% of the vote while John McCain earns 42%. When “leaners” are included, it’s Obama 47% and McCain 46%. Compared to a week ago, Obama has gained a single percentage point (see recent daily results).
However, the week’s polling showed a roller-coaster of opinion surrounding Obama’s big speech. The event in Berlin was well-covered and initial reviews on the speech were positive. Polling on Thursday and Friday nights was very strong for the Democrat, leading to a six-point advantage in our Saturday morning release. However, polling for the past three days shows no trace of a bounce. The data looks very similar to results from the period preceding the speech and, with fourteen weeks to go, the race for the White House is a toss-up. Tracking Polls are released at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time each day.

Senator Clinton has alot of very bright women on his staff and he even pays them fairly. His communications director is a woman, Carly Fiorni, who was head of Hewlett Packard is on his staff, I think as an economic advisor. There are more but they are great when you see them on tv. He is way ahead when it comes to women working for his campaign as opposed to the opposition who pays women less than men…

Those of us who have many years experience, as well as natives of the region, all know it is a cougar(Puma) watching or possibly stalking you. It’s a good time move on to some other place~~~like home while you can.

some of my customers were Cali delegates for Bill and personal friends of Hill and Bill..some spent the weekend at the whitehouse ..partied with and had dinner and breakfast with Bill and Hill..
many of the top democratic leaders here,elected officials and DA ,community activists are my customers..I go to their house..
my “growl” is speaking to them personally and trying like hell to persuade them NOT to support Obama..I prefer face to face “growls” when I’m on the “prowl”

Here’s a little prowl I did today:
I was listening to NPR (don’t recall the specific program) and it was one of their shows where callers can call in with questions or comments. The subject matter was about health care so I called in and made my point while inserting the comment, “That is why Senator Clinton’s health plan is so necessary now more than ever.”
So, just an idea, if you’re listening to radio that allows call-ins, if the subject matter seems like it could relate to anything great about Clinton, you can get air time and a lot of exposure by making a succinct point that includes acknowledgement of her work, her plan, her platform, etc.

I have a very very wealthy friend who is used to being treated like royalty by the DNC. A couple months ago she told me the gig is up (but I refused to believe) because she said she got the COLD SHOULDER treatment by the higher ups. She is ALL IN for Hillary, and wanted to know what the heck was going on. She was basically shown the door and told not to come back.
I work with low income women and if you had seen what I have seen and heard what I have heard you would understand my angst. Real people have their hearts on the line, and lip service is not going to cut it. Not this time.
I will wait until Denver, but Hillary has a lot to do to prove up people. I would do anything and risk it all for her, but she must live up to her promises. If not, she becomes one of them. And them is not good.
She told us she would never stop fighting, she told us why that man is unacceptable, she told us why we need her–we are ALL in, and the only question that remains is she all in. This is MUCH bigger than Democrat vs. Republican at this point, MUCH MUCH BIGGER!!!

I was living in the Valley during ’94 quake and know how devestating that can be.
I called Patrick Fitzgerald’s office a month or so ago to ask if Obama was going to be indicted in the Rezco matter. Of course, they couldn’t give me that info. I just called again and had to leave a message. Would this be something we could prowl or would it just make them made we are bothering them? I’ve been calling officials for years on my own without a group behind me, but I leave it to Murphy whether or not this is wise for anyone else to do it. Thought about calling again after seeing Ted Stevens of Alaska was indicted. BO has done worse than what he did.

Wrong Valley, I was in Lodi/Sacto area during the big SF quake. A woman I used to work with was actually trapped in her car after the bridge in SF collapsed. She survived okay but bad memories. Also, been in a hurricane but will take an earthquake any day over that.
Now am in Pacific NW. My family is still down there.
I received the email from Hillary today. Also one from Bill. He left for Ethiopia yesterday.

Have you checked into sharing a room with one or more other pumas? Most hotels have pull-out sofas in some rooms, or you can use a single blow up mattress if some others will let you use their floor.

Dear SandiPuma, Please don’t be discouraged. I, too, have left a number of blogs on here that went unanswered. Often these things zoom by so fast – which means that there are a huge number of us with a lot to say, which is good! And when we quickly read through them, we assume someone else will answer the question. Believe me, SandiPuma, and any others who have not been acknowledged, you are very much appreciated and needed. So please hang in there. I might suggest sending a query to Murphy directly. I haven’t emailed her personally before, but she seems consistently fair and very helpful.
I have been having an email conversation over the past two months with a (southern) KY SD who says that “anything could happen” at the Convention. But it looks like “O” is the nominee. But she is not giving up on Hillary. (Emphasis on that last sentence.)
I have had numerous contacts with SD John Yarmuth who sided with BO before we had the primaries in KY. I reamed him out, because he didn’t represent his constituency and I campaigned for him and he is Jewish (and so am I). I don’t know what else I can say to the man, quite frankly.

What has disturbed me over the years is that with every passing election cycle, I learn more about our election proccess. I swear ever 4 years we here about voter fraud, dead people voting… this year we have mumbles about pets. oy!
First I heard about the DLC several years ago, then learned more about caucuses and Superdelegates in 2004, this year it’s about ACORN, history of caucus, DNC Voter Rights Institute, Convention and the history of….

I have the same fear you do. Dean was forced out of the Presidential race for a stupid scream, which was nothing in the big scheme of things. Yet nothing seems to phase Obama. I don’t get it.

I don’t see Hillary “going on the warpath” if McCain wins in November. Rather, I see her working closely with her friend John McCain to address healthcare and other causes she believes in. That will better position her for the presidency in 2012.
What scares me, however, is the thought that Obama could make another run for the presidency in 2012, just like Hillary could. He’d be bigger and badder the second time around.
If Obama loses in November, we’d have to fight to keep him out of the Senate and any other position of power. We’d have to keep attacking his credibility for the next four years to give Hillary a head start.

It’s actually kind of sad. Obama is a smart man. If he only had principles, strong moral character, sufficient humility, and patience, he could have worked in the U.S. Senate to champion important causes, built a record of accomplishments, and been a great leader of the party at some point in the not-too-distant future.

I do like what he stands for but there were things being said that I was not really down with. They are a little bit extreme for me but I do think he means well and is true in what he is doing. Also he gets a little nasty (to put it nicely) when questioned. But I do pop in from time to time to see what’s new there.
I just wrote an email to President Bush requesting he call an Emergency Session. If Congress Democrats leave DC before voting on lifting the oil ban,and drill, drill, drill. Wow would that mess up some plans for the convention. If anyone else would like to do that

For her I spoke with Jason O’Malley who lives one county over from me in PA! Jason has political aspirations himself. He has super nice, considering he was answering his home phone, and expecting a call from his wife. He and his wife were wondering why we are still supporting Hillary when she herself is supporting BO. His wife was a very strong supporter of HRC. I wish I were a better spokesman for our PAC, but I did my best. He will convey our messages to her, but he can not make any promise.

Hillary is the one who would be able to come back and win. If it winds up that she needs to come back in four years after McCain: she will be even more primed. At that point, Dean will be gone, and likely Kennedy (sorry, but true). Possibly Pelosi and Kerry and others will be gone as well. By then, the media will be different, since every single person will know how biased and sexist they were / are. No one will put up with that again. Hillary would be different as well: She would blast the media right away, and she would push the Woman for President ? Woman voters appeal much harder. By then, she and others will have made some crucial political chess plays, so to speak, and they would be more prepared than ever. Also, Hillary will have worked to abolish caucuses by then. Do not fret: All friends and foes will be remembered.
If Obama is handed the official nomination, he will lose to McCain. If Hillary wanted to run again in four years, she would win–hands down. The atmosphere would likely be such that any democratic candidate would step aside for Hillary…and she’d win 123 the dem nomination. After Bush and then McCain : Hillary would win the presidency in a landslide.
If Hillary somehow won the official nominatin at Denver, she would beat McCain. Hillary can be president now or later. Either way, she can do it.

Obama has demonstrated that he is more of a politician than a Commander-in-Chief by opposing the “surge.” Either he acted on polls or principle. If it was the polls he lacks the courage to be CIC. If it was principle he lacks the judgment to be CIC. His judgment was both rushed and wrong. Before the surge was even implemented his judgment was that it would fail and make things worse. Now that the surge has been successful and greatly improved the Iraqi situation, Obama is too proud to acknowledge it. He still spins any statement he makes about the surge by giving credit to the thousands of soldiers whose votes he covets but never praising the judgment and planning of the military leaders responsible for it.

Snake-oil politicians have appeared throughout history. Hitler and Mussolini had the ability to draw huge audiences, promise them cures for all that ails them, and rouse them to feverish enthusiasm. They were only thus able to come to power. Only then did they reveal their true colors.

BTW… I see many posts to go to the AOL poll but to tell you the truth.. I feel hits to these AOL sites help to support the likes of Tommy Christopher and I’ve decided to boycott these sites. I also try to get most of my news from the JSND coalition sites and blogs as well as from FOX. So I’m also trying my best to boycott most of the AP articles on AOL and Yahoo. Although I am guilty of checking them out from time to time when links are provided here (such as in the above example).
I figure most of the MSM rely on hits (not only in TV land) but from the Internet since their advertisers will pay to have ads on their sites based on their traffic. I don’t plan to give them my traffic until they start reporting more fairly as true journalist once took a pride in doing. I own my own vote. Not only in elections, but who I will honor with traffic hits when perusing for news. Just a thought to anyone else that might want to consider similar measures.
Thank goodness for PUMAs and the JSND coalition. They seem to be the real true journalists of our time these days.

I am sorry for responding so late. My computer logged me out.
I wanted to thank you and other PUMAs for your kind words. We are a real family here. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and from my family.
He’s my tough little guy. He did everything he possibly could to make sure that no one will know about his heart problems, and that I will make sure to have him by C-Section.
During the ultra sound when I was 20 weeks pregnant he held his hand over his heart the whole time. The technician started to hit my stomach really hard with that handle which is used to see organs from the outside. Eventually he took his hand away just for a second so that the technician could say: “everything is normal”. Thanks God that he didn’t show it. Then when I was 8 months pregnant he made sure not to start coming down so that I wouldn’t have contractions. I had him by C-Section and it saved his life. He’s a miraculous little person. I am so lucky that have him.

If she doesn’t come out and take a stand for herself, what are we doing? I already posted that when I called the DNC they told me emphatically that Obama was the nominee, period, end of story. I told them he was unqualified, blah, blah, blah, and she would have none of it. She basically hung up on me. Supposedly Hillary is going to campaign for him again and if I see that, I will be sick. I spoke to Ricki Lieberman yesterday and she said to keep doing what we are doing and she didn’t get any indication that we should stop. But the Convention is almost here and we are being stonewalled. They are not going to let her be the nominee, the delegates may want her to be but are too wimpy to take a stand.

I know people will hate me for just saying this about Condoleeza Rice, but I am not afraid. I am not afraid anymore. I am not falling in line on anything but core common principles. We all had a left-over bone to pick with Saddam and we pushed our Legislative and Executive Branch to do this, so we all have a responsibility. That these two women, Hillary Clinton and Condi Rice, are the most villified of all the characters in our national drama, for their decisions in the early days, should have wakened us to our reality sooner.

In addition to inserting the word Democratic sooner than you do in order to define which party you’re talking about, I’d also consider further defining what the “voice of the voters” means. I’ve always found that to be a bit vague and broad. Which voters? Just my perception, but the statement strikes me as such a broad claim as to render it virtually devoid of meaning. Surely it can’t mean ALL voters, or even ALL Democrats. Does it mean voters who have been disenfranchised, dismissed, etc, by the Democratic Party? If so, that’s what I’d say up front. Just an idea…

Don’t be upset with Hillary and her not taking a stand. Hillary has to support the party and Obama if she has any hope keep her career and being able to keep the issues she holds so dear alive.
I still say if the JSND and PUMA PAC movement becomes very, very effective the party will put more and more pressure on Hillary to denounce our movement. It could be a very good way to measure just how effective this movement has become.
We can only hope that by the time the convention starts there is enough pressure to get Hillary nominated.

jenniforhillary – despite the clinton’s personal wealth, i believe senator clinton does need the dnc if she intends to remain in politics, remain a democrat, and retain and/or build her own sphere of power and influence. like you, i also wish she had remained actively in the race. but i believe she is an incredibly smart and savvy politician who, at every step, calculates what will be in her best interests. and, i wish she were silent. but, unfortunately, she’s made a pretty passionate endorsement of obama. were that she was silent. but she’s made a certain choice, though we may not be privy (sp?) to all of what she’s thinking or planning. but, for now, she’s out there supporting him and i can only assume she is doing so to save herself politically. i wouldn’t expect any less from any truly strategic politician. i just wish it were otherwise.

Also, semi-funny/sad story. Today, while driving into work, I saw someone with John McCain bumper sticker in front of me and my gut reaction was – ugh. And then I remembered, I may be voting for him! It was really a weird feeling to have that visceral gut reaction to a Republican, and then realize it was the better choice than the Democrat.
Also, has anyone read of Obama’s failure to help the African school he promised to help – it was on Ricki Liberman’s email last night. Despicabable and more evidence that he’s all talk,no walk.

I am emailing Jewish delegates and am amused that people think we’re snitty, kvetchy, 40 somethings that are pissed that we didn’t get our way.

From the comments made by Senator Obama and his supporters, Donna Brazil, Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Alice Germond, Don Fowler and the list goes on, I would say that the Democratic Party has been hijacked and no longer exists. What has happened is that this group operating from within the party has used the framework of what was the Democratic Party for its own party and ideology. If I am not mistaken, Donna Brazile said that she was going to do just that. It was a lot cheaper and easier to do that then start a 3rd party. The only thing to do is to make sure they do not succeed and to defeat what is being called the Democratic leadership. Then the Democratic party can be rebuilt based on democracy and the Constitution and not on the principles of some governments in Asia, Africa and South America.

Biden and Byh (sp) are still in the top cut, but many are speculating that it will be Kaine from VA. Good! I do not want Hillary anywhere in this mess. The Democrats left me—and I will work in any capacity to make sure that this “New Democratic Party” headed by “the citizen of the world” and “legislated” by Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid are defeated in November. Our Country cannot afford “an experiment.”

Many of you received ‘invitations’ to join Barack Obama at the “first truly open Democratic National Convention in a generation.” Open to what? Well, if they mean the open air coronation at Mile High Stadium, well, maybe. But, other than that, there is no evidence of anything open, certainly not the nominating and roll call process. What arrogance! Why even have a convention?
This must not happen. Please keep reminding the SDs that their only job in Denver is to select the electable candidate; BO is not gaining any traction. He is not electable, and we know Hillary is. We also see that the DNC and Obama campaign is becoming even more frenetic to cut off any opposition or debate. Through the EW and many other routes, many HRC supporters are not prepared to allow this to happen.

He visited the Senator Obama Kogelo Secondary School built on land donated by his paternal grandfather. After addressing the pupils, a third of whom are orphans, and dancing with them as they sang songs in his honour, he was shown a school with four dilapidated classrooms that lacked even basic resources such as water, sanitation and electricity.
He told the assembled press, local politicians (who included current Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga), and students: “Hopefully I can provide some assistance in the future to this school and all that it can be.” He then turned to the school’s principal, Yuanita Obiero, and assured her and her teachers: “I know you are working very hard and struggling to bring up this school, but I have said I will assist the school and I will do so.”
Obiero says that although Obama did not explicitly use the word “financial” to qualify the nature of the assistance he was offering, “there was no doubt among us [teachers] that is what he meant. We interpreted his words as meaning he would help fund the school, either personally or by raising sponsors or both, in order to give our school desperately-needed modern facilities and a facelift”. She added that 10 of the school’s 144 pupils are Obama’s relatives. Obiero was not the only one to think that the US Senator from Illinois, who had recently acquired a $1.65 million house in Chicago, would cough up. Obama’s own grandmother Sarah confidently told reporters before his visit: “When he comes down here, he will change the face of the school and, believe me, our poverty in Kogelo will be a thing of the past.”
But the Evening Standard has heard that the promises he made to help the school as well as a local orphanage appear to have been empty.
…there is disappointment and hurt here, too. Granting us access to the school and its records, Principal Obiero, 48, tells us: “Senator Obama has not honoured the promises he gave me when we met in 2006 and in his earlier letter to the school. He has not given us even one shilling. But we still have hope.”
The letter Obiero refers to – dated 22 June 2005, signed by Obama and addressed to her – was written after his election to the US Senate in 2004 and hangs, framed, on the wall of her spartan office alongside photographs of Obama’s visit to their school. It says: “I am honoured that you have decided to rename the Kogelo School in my name.
The land that the school is built on was donated by my grandparents and I am proud to carry on the tradition of supporting the school.”
Obiero and her board of governors followed up his letter offering ” support” with a formal request for funds in the form of a nine-page proposal,…Obama’s grandmother who only speaks Luo, and is a friend of the family, says the family are mystified by what they are calling “Obama’s lapse”. “If you ask whether Obama’s family think he should give something to the village and to the school, the answer is ‘yes, definitely’.
During Obama’s visit to the school, he opened their half-finished science laboratory (built with £4,900 raised by the community) and wrote in the visitor’s book: “Congratulations on the new laboratory!” Today, the lab has been mothballed because they ran out of funds to equip it and because, critically, there is no running water. “We must pay the man with the donkey to fetch us water from the river four kilometres away,” says Obiero. The situation in the school mirrors that of Kogelo village where the people live without water, electricity or access to proper healthcare and on average incomes of less than $1 a day. Yet they remain diehard fans of the man who has put their rural community on the map and have even renamed the beer, called Senator, in his honour: locals now order “an Obama”.
Obama’s “lapse” is all the more difficult to understand given that he wrote in his 1995 autobiography, Dreams from My Father, that Kogelo occupies a special place in his heart as being where he reconciled the diverse parts of himself – American and African, white mother and black father. Obama wrote how he fell to his knees, sobbing, between the graves of his father and grandfather at the family compound.
“When my tears were finally spent,” he wrote, “I felt a calmness wash over me. I felt the circle finally close. I realised that who I was, what I cared about, was no longer just a matter of intellect or obligation, no longer a construct of words. I saw that my life in America – the black life, the white life, the sense of abandonment I’d felt as a boy, the frustration and hope I’d witnessed in Chicago – all of it was connected with this small plot of earth an ocean away.”
…Barack’s father, an economist, had split up with his white mother, Ann Dunham, from Kansas, when Barack was two. Apart from a month-long visit from his father when he was 10 years old, Obama would know him only through letters. As an adult he learned there was a darker side to his father, reflecting in his book that he had apparently also been “a bitter drunk”, “an abusive husband”, and “a defeated, lonely bureaucrat”. But during this process of soul-searching he came to know and adore the elderly woman who had raised his father, his step-grandmother Sarah Obama.
…[The] house is basic with a concrete floor, an outside kitchen, latrines and no running water. The only sign of modernity is the recently installed solar power unit that provides electricity for lights and a television set.
The market is where we head next to speak to villagers about their hopes for an Obama victory in November and what it might do for their village. Mary Manasse, 40, who runs the Mama Siste Mini Shop selling staples such as bread and cow’s milk (packaged in old Coke bottles) says she has a photograph of Obama shaking hands with her on his 2006 visit.
“Back then I was looking after 40 orphans at the orphan centre,” she recalls. “We faced a desperate shortage of money and Obama told us that he especially liked special, dedicated projects like ours and wanted to help. We thought he would give funds to help our project but we got nothing. A few months later we were forced to shut down the orphan centre because of lack of funds. Just a million Kenyan shillings [£6,000] would have kept us going another year. I feel disappointed that he did not come through.”
A few stalls away mango-seller Gladys Anyango, 60, does an impromptu Obama impression to the amusement of her fellow peddlers. She places her hands on her hips, gazes into the middle distance and, mimicking his deep voice, says: “How are you, people of Kogelo?” Her friends collapse with laughter. She also takes off Obama’s wife, Michelle, who had accompanied him on his visit along with his two daughters, Malia and Sasha.
“Oh, but there will be a big party here when Obama wins,” she adds. “We still have hope that he will bring electricity and build schools so the children have a good education. Maybe when he’s President of America, he’ll remember his roots and look after his community in Kenya.”

Waiting in the wings, she’s ready to rescue her party if Mr. Wonderful continues to self-destruct. Mrs. Clinton didn’t formally terminate her candidacy for the Democratic nomination; she suspended it. She didn’t officially release the delegates pledged to her; she merely asked them to support Barack Obama. Clinton loyalists now demand her name be placed in nomination at next month’s convention. They point out that the Illinois senator wins only if he secures the support of numerous super delegates. Those superior beings can change their votes at any time, including the day of the balloting.
Meanwhile, Barack is running in reverse. Even his most rabid admirers must wonder if he’s ready for prime time as he dazzles them with switcheroos on withdrawing from Iraq, gun control, NAFTA, government wiretapping and sundry other matters on which he had purportedly held rock solid convictions.
…Much of the time, he shuns personal responsibility and places blame on people who work for him.
Two women wearing Muslim head scarves weren’t allowed to sit behind Obama at a June Detroit rally. He personally extended his “deepest apologies for the incident that occurred with (my) volunteers.” In a debate last April, moderator Charlie Gibson brought up a questionnaire completed by Obama when he ran for office in 1996. In saying “my writing wasn’t on that particular questionnaire,” Obama stood by his campaign’s previous explanation that placed responsibility on a staffer for wrongly filling the questionnaire out.
In January, Obama was willing to spread the blame around. He told Hillary during a debate that they both have “supporters or staff who get overzealous.”
Last year’s Obama campaign analysis of Mrs. Clinton identified her affiliation as “D-Punjab” because of her close ties to India and the American Indian community. When the Des Moines Register asked about it, Obama maintained it “was a screw-up on the part of our research team.”
Also last year, he missed meeting a group of New Hampshire firefighters. You know whose fault that was. His staff had bungled his schedule and “heard from me a little bit because I wasn’t happy I couldn’t be there personally.” Good help is just so very hard to find. Add to the mix a candidate who changes positions like he changes his socks and who, by his own admission, doesn’t catch some things quickly and finds himself surprised, and you have a contender whose inexperience and naiveté could still bring his campaign down. Granted it’s not likely given the media swoon over Obama, but it is possible.
Patiently, Mrs. Clinton waits. Just in case she’s needed.

Show Me the Money, Barack
“Okay. Look. I am not all impressed by the Obama Grand Tour. There was a movie a few years ago with Sandra Bullock who plays a grungy cop made over by Michael Caine to go undercover as a contestant in the Miss Universe Contest. One of the running jokes in that movie is that each contestant for the Biggie Prize ends her speech with “And I am for World Peace.”
So I just don’t get how this 2 continents in a handful of days with photo ops, little prayers leaked to the press and Biggie speeches on World Peace makes Obama a better candidate for President.
I mean this is supposed to be shore up his foreign policy credentials? Frankly, I was embarrassed.
I also don’t like grandiose and soaring hyperbole. I don’t trust it. I feel as if I am always screaming in my head: but what the effing hell are you gonna do? Jeeze, as long as I am doing this I may as well say that for me, anyway, Obama’s speeches don’t touch Jack Kennedy’s. Now that guy could give a speech.
Ok. OK. I know. I am out of synch with half the democrats in the country. And this is probably when I should say I am going to vote for the guy. But I am nervous about it. I don’t want to bring up unpleasant subjects, but FISA totally jammed up my personal little drive to get on the Bus.
Will he take out the troops in a year or won’t he? Will he pick a Republican Vice President or won’t he? Will he support gay rights and gay marriage, let alone repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell or won’t he? For every person who tells you he will do all these things, there is another one with evidence who says he says he won’t.
Obama has left a trail of misdirection, half-truths and pandered positions that makes my head swim. And I don’t like it.
So maybe now you are wondering why I am going to vote for the guy. I hate John McCain. And I hate the Republican Party. I fear the election of John McCain the way some people fear snakes. He is the Anti-Christ. And the Republican Party is the elephant in the middle of America’s living room. So I am I guess the loyal opposition. And I want to see people here hold Barack Obama’s feet to the fire on basic Democratic Party principles.
I don’t wanna hear about a Republican Veep because this creepo could become President. I wanna hear about repealing the Patriot Act and FISA. I want to hear about bringing back the Fairness Doctrine, so we
