Oh, Look! A Leader Who, You Know, Leads!

Senator Hillary Clinton is at it again; up to her old tricks of standing up and leading the Democrats against Republican infringement on personal liberties and civil rights. What will she think of next? Next thing you know she’ll be drafting legislation for universal health care for ALL Americans or mortgage debt relief for working class home-owners. She might even stand up to the White House and her own cowardly colleagues in Congress and VOTE NO on the FISA Compromise. Oh, wait . . . she already did that.

Here it is in her words:

An Outrageous Attempt by the Bush Administration to Undermine Women’s Rights

Sen. Hillary Clinton on July 21, 2008 – 8:45am

Sen. Hillary Clinton's picture

The Bush Administration is up to its old tricks again, quietly putting ideology before science and women’s health. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is poised to put in place new barriers to accessing common forms of contraception like birth control pills, emergency contraception and IUDs by labeling them “abortion.” These proposed regulations set to be released next week will allow healthcare providers to refuse to provide contraception to women who need it. We can’t let them get away with this underhanded move to undermine women’s health and that’s why I am sounding the alarm.

These rules pose a serious threat to providers and uninsured and low-income Americans seeking care. They could prevent providers of federally-funded family planning services, like Medicaid and Title X, from guaranteeing their patients access to the full range of comprehensive family planning services. They’ll also build significant barriers to counseling, education, contraception and preventive health services for those who need it most: low-income and uninsured women and men.

The regulations could even invalidate state laws that currently ensure access to contraception for many Americans. In fact, they describe New York and California’s laws requiring prescription drug insurance plans to provide coverage for contraceptives as part of “the problem.” These rules would even interfere with New York State law that ensures survivors of sexual assault and rape receive emergency contraception in hospital emergency rooms.

We’ve seen this kind of ideologically driven move from the Bush Administration before. Senator Patty Murray and I went toe to toe with the Bush Administration to demand a decision on Plan B by the FDA. We won that fight and we need to win this one too.

When I learned about these proposed rules, I immediately joined with Senator Murray to call on the Bush Administration to stop these dangerous plans. I am joining with New York family planning and healthcare advocates to spread the word. Now is the time to raise our voices. I will continue to press HHS and I hope you will join me. I have posted information on how to get involved at www.hillpac.com.

I understood that delegates cannot not change their position based on the primary in the first vote, after that all hell breaks out and they get to vote for whoever they want on the second and third votes.

AM I LATE? DID ANYBODY ELSE SEE THIS FROM TEXASDARLIN?

Will Bower Reports That Hillary’s Debt Is Paid Off!!!July 20, 2008
This email came via PUMApac Forums. Seems one of the members over there emailed Will Bower about the July 4th payoff the debt, and while these are unofficial and based on a bit of educated guess work as far as the numbers go, the response they got was very encouraging…

this is the response they got…

This kinda complicated, but here goes!

First, it looks as if we’ll only be given the June figures on July 20th (or July 21st). We won’t get the solid figures for July 1-4 until August 20th or so.

Secondly, different outfits are choosing to assess the debt differently. Some are counting only the campaign debt, and some are counting the campaign debt *plus* Hillary’s *personal* debt. It looks as if we’ll have definitely paid down the former, but it is unclear as to the latter.

There are those who want us to report her debt as still being high, so that they can continue to fundraise. And there are those who want us to know that her debt is almost paid off, to show that she is still a strong candidate for Convention.

As *I* see it (from what our sources have told us), her *campaign* debt should be in the black as of now. Even if it isn’t, the *good* news is that we’ve brought the DNC’s strong arm tactics into public light and scrutiny… so that they will now be hard pressed to use her debt against her in their attempt to keep her name from being placed into nomination.

I hope this helps better explain things, even as complicated as it may sound. If there are any other questions I can ask, please let me know.

Thanks!

Will

DEMOCRATIC PARTY LEADERS CONFESS THAT THEY ARE “FATIGUED” AND “IRRITATED” BY DEMOCRATS WHO REFUSE TO FALL IN LINE BEHIND BARACK OBAMA!

See a short and sweet response mocking the Fowler/Germond letter that tells Hillary supporters to shut up and fall in line at http://www.NotFallingInLine.com.

(The response is in the 1st comment to the post, where you can easily copy and paste it if you wish to send it).

EVERYONE SHOULD SEND THEM FOWLER AND GERMOND EMAILS!

That is good news on her campaign debt. On the other subject, we need to stand up to these tactics by the Bush administration. They are taking more and more of our rights away. I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to sit by while they try to take us back to the dark ages. In the past I sat by and watched what was happening thinking what good would it do for me to say or do anything. I have now decided that if I don’t speak up who will? So here I go again on a letter writing campaign. My friends are afraid that I will disappear one day, without a trace. That the government will come and take me away. Well, if they are threatened that much by my words just wait until everyone else in this nation gets their fill.
Murphy, I applaud you and everyone here for the great job you are doing. Keep the coals hot on their heels. I guess they feel that they can get away with anything since many people have looked the other way for so long. Well not anymore!

Is any one upset with the NEW YORK TIMES? well I am so I found the papers executive editors e-mail and sent him a letter it read:
Editor SIR,
How can you dictate to a person as to what they have to say in an Editoral,just because they do not agree with the candidate that the TIMES clearly supports? What happened to free speech? Does the first amendment not apply to your paper? You have just shown the whole country just how BIASSED the media really is in this election.

PUMA friends- I haven’t been on since Wednesday and it seems I’ll never catch up. I’m glad to see that Hillary is still fighting for access to birth control and not backing down from the fight. The USDHHS probably figured she was tired from the long contest and they could push her over. Senator Murray is one of my Senators (along with Maria Cantwell) and they all work well together.

I’m glad to see that there will be a conference before the convention and wish all who will attend much support, comfort, safety and comraderie.

Quick side note, I went to Lakefair last night for fireworks. A Barbie and Ken couple set up a kids table with some cookies and a sign “Bake Sale for Obama”. Thurston County went overwhelmingly for BO, but for the whole hour that Barbie and Ken were out there, they probably made 4 sales. Everyone was shaking their heads as they were asked, then laughing once they passed by. That in itself would have been worth a big admission fee!
Have a great day!!

Nothing personal against the men on here, just saying if they tried to regulate men’s health issues, it would be a different story.

How could the 1000 people polled give precious their consideration over his “overseas” trip – Gallup has had this within two to three points for weeks – normally I don’t listen to polls but huh?

Lead is among the largest Obama has held over McCain
July 21, 2008Barack Obama holds a 6-point lead over John McCain, 47% to 41%, in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update. The results include two days of polling since Obama began his overseas trip.

I found the story in regards to #61 selective service records. IT JUST MAY BE GOOD NEWS. All males were required to register for the draft between 1/1/60 and 1975 ages 18-26. In 1975 Ford Admn. ended it but, the Carter admn brought it back in 1980 and all males 18-26 had to register by law. If Obama failed to register with the selective service he would have been unable to apply for any federally-governed job or financial aid. According to Snopes there is NO proof that #61 registered as required. The selective service claim that the reason his registration does not show up is probably because of a technical difficulty, he used a different name, he used the wrong SS#. The web sites are – http://message.snopes.com/showthread.php?t=31644. The original post is on noquartersusa 7/1/08. The web site is http://noquartersusa.net/blog/2008/07/01/selective-service-required-did-obama-register/. If anyone is interested. Also #61 will not release his health records only a 2 page letter from his docter.

#66 storytellers on 07.21.08 at 3:51 pm

taking for what I said above, the delegates & superdelegates could vote as they please, that is the reason why they want HILLARY completly out, in order for there no to be anyother candidate,
I think the way HILLARY stepped aside was brilliant, remember she did not get off

#67 Firebelle Puma on 07.21.08 at 3:56 pm

I think Hillary had to pretty much stop campaigning, regardless of money, for the sake of party unity. Had she continued campaigning, she’d be getting so much grief that she’d be unable to continue her good work on healthcare and other issues she cares about.

The strategy is different now … If you can’t walk in through the door, slip in through a window. If Obama self-destructs before Denver or if superdelegates switch to Hillary, there’s still a chance she can pull off the nomination. But it requires the indirect approach rather than the direct approach now.

I agree, we need to have cell phone numbers and emails so people can meet up and not get lost.
I don’t have a place to stay and little $ for a decent dwelling, so I have no idea what I will do when I get there.

Okay, it’s not me and it’s not a mistake. AOL is playing with the straw poll by reversing the % numbers. In addition, I havn’t been able to get into my email account all day. Anyone else having problems?

Just curious, I’m not getting paranoid…….yet.

“but he is a citizen because he was born in the U.S. (Hawaii was a state when he was born there.) See the explanation at Snopes. His mother & father’s citizenship status doesn’t matter.”

~~~~~~~
I posted this response downstairs — but wanted to post it here as well to make sure others see it. I’ve seen the above logic being posted many places on the net (especially on the KOS article regarding the BC — that I won’t even comment on how many errors of logic that article displays). But I would like to dispell this logic when I see it posted here.
There’s something everyone needs to understand about SNOPES. While it often does do a really good job in most cases to dispell hoax information that gets passed around on the net… everone needs to keep in mind that SNOPES is mostly run by a husband and wife team doing research on their own. They are human, not perfect, as often evident in their abundant spelling and grammatical errors on the site. It is highly possible that they are also not completely informed on the proper research on the birth certificate information. They don’t always have the time or inclination to do deep deep analysis and investigative work. Nor do they always have access to the expert analysis that has been done on texasdarlin’s site. So please — just don’t fall under the misconception that they (SNOPES) are the DE FACTO LAST WORD on any subject.
#2 Trish ….http://www.zimbio.com/2008+Presidential+Candidates/articles/9161/DNC+Convention+Questions+Answered+Phil+McNamara
[[ I posted this the other night and ask for some clarification on answer #2…. It says that pledged delegates are not bound by pledge… atleast I think that’s how I read it…anyone else look at it and see the same?? Maybe I’m just not reading between the lines or maybe I am too much]]
Question 2, READS
“Is a simple majority required during the delegate voting at the Democratic National Convention? If neither candidate receives enough votes in the first round of voting, is it possible for the ballots to go to a second, third and fourth round and so on? If so, is there a point when delegates are free to change their vote for a different candidate? Pauline, Houston TX
Answer: All very good questions. The Convention’s Procedural Rules require that the Party’s Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates be nominated by a majority vote of the delegates. A majority is more than 50% of the total number of delegate votes that can be cast at the Convention, not merely those present and voting.
Balloting continues until a nominee is selected. A candidate secures the nomination upon receiving a majority vote, no matter which ballot. Pledged delegates are not legally “bound” to vote for the candidate they were elected to represent. They can, and have in the past, cast a vote for another presidential candidate at the Convention.
It is entirely possible for the vote to go to a second or third (or more) ballot and there are many examples of that in past Conventions. However, the last time more than one ballot was needed for the Presidential candidate was at the 1952 Democratic Convention and the last time the Vice Presidential voting went to more than one ballot was at the 1956 Convention. Looking to more than 50 years of history as our guide, it is likely that the Party’s nominees will be selected on the first ballot.”
My Comment
Pledged delegates are suppose to be pledge to the candidate who won the most popular votes for their state or district; yet at the same time, they are not required to and can change their mind and vote their conscience.
And they can do that, anytime they want.
They don’t have to wait until the convention.
In essence, a pledge is nothing more than an ENDORSEMENT, and endorsements do not carry any legal weight.
The same is true of SuperDelegates!!!
Last I recall at or around June 4th, Hillary was only behind by 165 delegates; but that figure might have changed by now.
I do recall seeing these figures a few days ago, but I do not remember the dating of them:
SUPERDELEGATES
BHO: 437.5
HRC: 237
Uncommitted: 84
There are approximately, 796 delegates to the convention.
But here’s the kicker, folks,
IF, if at the Credentials Committee meeting both Florida and Michigan are seated at their FULL 100% capacity, that overall delegate number increases to,
2,210
CONVENTION VOTE BASED UPON: 2,118
1/2 of 2,210 =1,055
So in order to win the nomination, one of them would have to get a *majority* of 1,056 or more.
I am not that great in math… so some of you will have to verify what I just typed in,
See,
Another motion/altitude sickness idea…
This is usually a prescription but you can a pafch to put behind your ear and they last 3 days, I think. Usually you get more to a pack and it doesn’t make you drowsy.
In Washington State the pharmacist can prescribe and give you the medicine so you never even call your doctor. This is what I use if I anticipate some type of motions sickness, not sure how it applies to altitude.
The petition and Sen. Clinton’s statement reminded me that my goal in March was to get a real Democrat elected to the White House, and that is still my goal today. My letter to Ickes
___________________
Dear Harold Ickes,
At the May 31st DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting you said that the 30 member panel was hijacking the votes and not uniting the party and we agree. You also said that Senator Clinton gave you permission to say that she reserves the right to take it to the Credentials Committee at the Convention and we whole heartedly agree that she should do exactly that.
Senator Clinton name must be put into nomination for a *real* vote at the Convention so if that means having her name put into nomination or a ballot, etc. we believe that she is the only logical and sane choice for our country, she receiving the most popular votes in our history. Both myself and my wife are now supporting Puma PAC, People United Means Action (http://blog.pumapac.org), and represent the MILLIONS who believe this nomination process has been hijacked.
We have a RIGHT to have our votes COUNT for something at the Convention.
Nominate Hillary for a REAL VOTE in Denver. Otherwise the members of Puma PAC will NOT support the illegitimate nominee.
Thank you,
Sincerely,
WAY TO GO!
Riding your wave, I did the same… Thank you for the email addy. Mine reads:
_______________________
Dear Editor,
I am outraged that you would take it upon yourself to demand that a candidate for the Presidency of the United States should have to comply with your polices and the policies of Senator Obama, the man who hijacked the nomination away from Senator Clinton by taking uncommitted votes during the May 31st DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee meeting.
He is an illegitimate candidate and I can’t believe you have not only endorsed him but are actively trying to sway an election. Media and news has an obligation to us to present a fair and equitable news coverage and what you did by rejecting Senator McCain’s OP-ED is, well, it is unforgivable. And if I may add, one of the stupidest things I have ever seen a newspaper do.
And by the way, take my name off of the daily delivery…. I have tried several times to day to unsubscribe and the link your paper has provided does not function.
Also know that I am posting this, my letter to you on an online blog for all others to see, and if they choose, to imitate. Media and the news did this to Senator Clinton, and if you continue in this vein, Mr Obama will loose all her voters to McCain; and that would be in addition to the ones who are not falling in line and have already removed their support of Obama.
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE
Against our democracy!
Sincerely,
Kathleen M.
[[ It appears you are correct, according to that article pledged deleagates can vote for whoever they wish in the first vote. ]]
This is the frustrating part, *as I see it* …. the Party nominee, once nominated becomes the head of the party, takes control over the DNC and the Party platform going forward. IOW, he sets the agenda.
So—
By Howard Dean PUSHING, PUSHING, PUSHING for an early superdelegate endorsement, he (Howard Dean) has made, and is most responsible for setting that whole process in premature mode.
And because of that, BHO is now setting the pace and CHANGING THE RULES. So that is the reason that many of us don’t know what’s going on, because BHO is changing the rules even for the Credentials Committee and thereby forcing her out of the race….
He would also be setting the agenda for the Convention… so your guess is as good as mine as far as what he is allowing Clinton to do or not.
It is a tavesty of American justice!
[[ If Hillary had not been so deep in debt she could have kept on campaigning the same as obama, but she chose to suspend untill the convention because of the debt, at least that is the way they explained it in may on fox]]
It wasn’t just because of her debt… She was being pressured to concede by the powers to be and by media … both wanting her out of the race and ever since Iowa.
It may be about his money, but not all of it was about hers. For example, if she had said to us, I am still in it to win it…. many of us would have continued to donate and in massive amounts.
But that did not happened.
So basically, the entire party put pressure on her to endorse BHO.
[[ If what you say is true one of them would have to have 1106 delegates with Fl. and Mi. restored. Or based on 2118 they would need 1059.]]
Well…to tell you the truth, I myself am somewhat confused as to the real numbers, first because a lot of sites stopped displaying them after the last June 3rd primaries, and secondly, because with the FL and MI fiasco, every site is giving out different information. Whose counting fl and mi … who isnt… who is discounting causcuses, etc.
And some of the numbers I posted in #99 are from the SuperDelegate count… not the pledged…
So the 2,210 number is, I believe based upon the total number of pledged delegates needed to gain the nomination.
Now—Since neither candidate could have reached the majority because of dissing FL and MI, therefore Howard Dean was pusing the SuperDelegates to weigh in…
But,
They were created to weigh in, AT THE CONVENTION.
So,
If FL and MI are reinstated at 100% it would set the process in motion all over again…
IOW, they would be just as confused as we are.
LOL
