FRIDAY ACTION and Open Thread

Quote of the Day:First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win.”  M.K. Gandhi

UPDATE JULY 11, 2008 at 1:19pm: Interesting mail today. First, I received this pointer to a MoveOn mailing that went out today begging for help to get Obama elected:

Dear MoveOn member, You’ve probably seen the polls—in the key battleground states, the presidential race is within the margin of error. We’ve heard a lot of confident talk from Democratic pundits, but the simple fact is, we could still lose this thing if we don’t get every last voter out to the polls.That’s why today we’re launching Change for America—the biggest program in MoveOn’s history. With $10 million and an army of 100,000 of us working together, we’ll reach out to specific, targeted voters who wouldn’t already vote, and make sure they get to the polls. We tested this program in 2004, and we know it makes a big impact—the biggest boost in turnout, in fact, that our researchers have seen.We need to know if we can count on your help. Will you join the Change for America corps this fall, and help elect Obama? You can sign up here: http://pol.moveon.org/pledge/changeforamericapledge.html?id=13202-9268499-zZTgE2x&t=2

Sounds kind of desperate, huh? Next I was copied a response from Donna Brazile to one of our Puma PAC members who DARED question why Obama and his minions in the DNC are planning to bypass democracy this year and ANOINT rather than ELECT our nominee for President:

—– Original Message —– From: Donna Brazile To: Sent: Friday, July 11, 2008 11:19 AM Subject: Re: OBAMA PLOT: KICK OUT HILLARY @ CONVENTION Excuse me? Why the hatred or worse the lies? I do not work for the party or Obama. What is your goal to just lie to help the GOP? You are a hater and worse delusional.

Oops! Stay civil and classy there, Donna. Now I know, this is TAME compared to most of Donna’s Diatribes to Fellow Democrats, but I was VERY HAPPY to read the third sentence. So, you don’t work for the Democratic Party or Obama, Donna? GREAT NEWS! Let’s have a party! Enjoy your retirement from relevancy Donna!

Morning Folks! Yes we ARE being heard. I recently learned that our 40,000 letters aren’t making everyone happy. It appears that many Very Important People often access their email through their handheld wireless devices (that’s “cellphones” for you and me) and, I gotta tell ya, it is HELL to have to open, ignore, delete, and move on through hundreds of “spam” emails from individual voters around the country so that you can get to the Very Important Emails from Very Important Other People about where and when you’ll be meeting for drinks tonight.

It’s enough to piss a person off! I mean Geez, go back to your silly little lives voters. You don’t actually expect them to treat your letters to them with any interest do you? BWAHAHAHAAA!!!!

Good Morning PUMAs!!!!

Is everyone catching the flack Obama is getting from his own supporters for the flip flopping he did when he voted for the FISA bill?? It’s all over CNN right now! Also, thought I would share an email train between me and one of my friends. See just by talking with people we can make a difference (ENJOY):

———————————————————
You know – you’re right. I’ve got some serious thinking to do. I guess we do have a choice. Thanks for helping me to see it from a different angle.

—————– Original Message —————–

I know doll – we don’t see eye to eye on social issues. Remember though, it’s the states that set precedent on social issues, not the Federal Government. Even under a democratic President, the process will be the same. Any politician (especially democratic) will tell you that they want nothing to do with these kinds of issues – leave it to the states. This is why I can overlook this important issue social debate towards actions to reform our party. Our current “selected” nominee did nothing but applaud as our precious process was pillaged and plundered – I will not accept that – it’s not the party I have grown to love and he is not my nominee.

I am glad we can have a spirited discussion. :)

I agree, no debate from me on your issues about the democratic party… but what choice do we have the republican party that hates gays. (regardeless of how much money the gays make,the party still hates you)

I am also just tired of everybody bagging on the democratic nominee. I’ve gotten so many forward about how bad he is and no fact checking at all… with him being a muslim, him being undemocractic, him not saying the pledge of alligence and so on and so on.
I tell everyone to check out snopes. com before they post anything they heard about it. I’m not even a barack supporter… I’m just tired of hearing such negative misinformation about him

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and again and expecting a different result – the only way to stop the insanity is reforming the Democratic Party and abolishing the tactics that led to the biggest injustice in the history of the democratic party. This problem is a lot bigger than the next 4 years my friend.

Jul 10, 2008 7:34 PM
ok he’s not ideal, but I can’t imagine another 4 years with a republican president. can you in good concscious allow that to happen? think about it and stop the insanity that this country is going toward

#16 Notyoursweetie on 07.11.08 at 9:06 am

@8 bythelake
There are a few cheerful passages in the WaPo piece though:

“Several of Obama’s top fundraisers said yesterday that they don’t think trend lines showing three straight months of declining donations to the candidate are cause for concern. But they said the campaign has recognized it will need to expand efforts to raise money from high-dollar donors in order to meet budget projections.

#17 Lorey on 07.11.08 at 9:06 am

I am still reading so many hurtful things about Hillary in CNN and other sites. I think that PUMAS should try to post comments at CNN at Wolf’s Political Ticker and Jack Cafferty’s file to try to at least balance the situation and let them know we are here and that it isn’t over yet.

It is at sites like these where we can reach disturbed and confused souls that have yet to see the light and maybe save one or two.

#20 Henerietta on 07.11.08 at 9:11 am

It has occured to me that in order for Hillary to be able to actually run for president in the fall, once we get her nominated, she will need funds. What if we can show a fund raising effort that exceeds what we have accomplished so far, and get her a nice surplus, perhaps about $20,000,000 by the time of the convention?

Since BO is having trouble raising funds, perhaps this effort would gain a great deal of attention.

Does anyone know how much we have left to clear of her debt?

In regards to this Jackson issue, I could be very wrong but my gut feeling tells me it was a planned by the Obama campaign to take the heat off of Obama’s FISA voting disaster. Look at when it came out, the same day the vote did and look at how much attention this Jackson issue got. I saw similar things happen during the primaries.

Good Morning Pumas,

Wow! I come back from vacation completely overloaded with work and too many posts on this site to sift thru all of them.

Anyways, I’m still trying to catch up on work and haven’t had time to begin reupdating my daily stop Obama links. But I have taken a few minutes to post the past couple days. This morning I just posted: Is Obama “Fit” Enough To Be President.

http://politicallydrunk.blogspot.com/2008/07/is-obama-fit-enough-to-be-our-president.html

I also learned last night that one of World Net Daily’s editors has a book being released on August 1st entitled Obamanation. Simon & Schuster are the publishers so I’m sure it will become a quick best-seller. Should make things interesting in August.

Have a great morning!

Our “silly little lives” allow us to be honest, hardworking, and true citizens of this great nation. Can’t say the same for the DNC. Singularly, we may have meek little voices… but together, we will not be silenced. I want to be proud to be a democrat again.

One person = one vote.

#28 Bill-K on 07.11.08 at 9:16 am

So our e-mails upset some of the elected officals. Just great, now we the people who elect these officals aren’t allowed to make our voices heard.

It is time we the people took back our country and our goverment. If the officals don’t like to hear from the people of this country it is time we got rid of them.

Hi PUMAs, BytheLake, don’t worry about that WaPo story about Obama fundraisers paying off Clinton’s debts. Let Obama do it. I posted a comment under Janet8, at 8:44 am today. I asked “what happened to all Obama’s small contributions from his many average voter’s.” I said “they’re probably disallusioned by his many flip-flops and throwing people “under the bus.” I also stated that Hillary Clinton is not going to give her 18 million votes for nothing, he’s going to have to pay for it. I told them ” Hillary has a brillilant mind and is a great negotiator and they are two of the many reasons that she would have been the better nominee.” The bottom line is Obama can’t win without her fundraisers and our votes. So sad….

I used to post at cnnpolitics.com and the cafferty file from early Jan. through mid-May. To the person who advised us to check with Snopes, I would like you to know Snopes is unreliable.

Therefore for the truth on Obama’s heritage I recommend you check out this link:

http://www.kennethelamb.blogspot.com/2008/02/barak-obama-questions-about-ethnic.html

The truth is that Obama’s father was NOT an African Negro, but he was a Kenyan Muslim by birth, as all of his family are, including his son Barak.
There is a big difference in heritage, Mr Obama is not even an African American or even half of one, he is a Muslim by birth.

Good morning everyone. I have just been doing some back peddling and came across sereral responses to me on yesterday’s thread. Please know that I have at least read through them and would like to thank those of you who responded. THANX

Right now I am on a site called, “Democratic Convention or The Hill” and doing a search for: DNC Rules committee and coming across some interesting stuff.

http://demconvention.thehill.com/index.php?option=com_search&Itemid=99999999&searchword=Bylaws+Committee&submit=Search&searchphrase=exact&ordering=newest

This one takes the cake:
http://demconvention.thehill.com/content/view/305/64/

“The committee did not break for lunch, opting instead to deal with Michigan immediately.”

That is NOT how I remembered it from watching C-Span. They were suppose to take a 1 hour lunch and were gone about 2 1/2 to 3 hour lunch.

So guess this site is biased and not to be trusted. Ah well…. Way too funny. What they call spin, I call downright lies.

MURPHY: I think I accidently posted this to the Champaign thread thinking I was here… so you might want to delete it from there. Might be in twice.

Re: Candidates Are Slow to Identify ‘Bundlers’

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/11/us/politics/11bundlers.html?th&emc=th

After receiving an inquiry from The New York Times, the campaign scrambled on Thursday evening to update its list of bundlers, adding 181 names, a jump of more than 50 percent, and increasing the amounts some were credited with raising. The number of bundlers who have collected $200,000 or more increased to 138 from 78.

Mr. Obama, in particular, has made transparency a cornerstone of his campaign, even introducing a bill in the Senate last year that would mandate that presidential candidates identify their bundlers.

Obama message to non PUMA’S

EXCERPT: My Fellow Americans:

As your future President I want to thank my supporters, \for your mindless support of me, despite my complete lack of any legislative achievement, my pastor’s relations with Louis Farrakhan and Libyan dictator Moamar Quadafi, or my blatantly leftist voting record while I present myself as some sort of bi-partisan agent of change.

I also like how my supporters claim my youthful drug use and criminal behavior somehow qualifies me for the Presidency after 8 years of claiming Bush’s youthful drinking disqualifies him. Your hypocrisy is a beacon of hope shining over a sea of political posing.

8 bythelake…

“Several of Obama’s top fundraisers said yesterday that they don’t think trend lines showing three straight months of declining donations to the candidate are cause for concern.”

Oh yeah!!!

3 months in a row would be devistating to them… especially when there was this big rush to end the primary and get Hillary out. Way to funny! And I am lovin it!

Gotta love this one,

“On Monday, Obama spent 90 minutes at an event at the Atlanta area home of Michael Coles, who had led fundraising efforts in Georgia for Clinton. The dinner for roughly 40 people was so oversubscribed that billionaire Ted Turner was on a waiting list until several longtime Obama supporters gave up their seats.”

“Those events, all of which fetched in the neighborhood of $28,500 per person, concluded yesterday morning with a less costly “Women for Obama” event, at which he shared the stage with Clinton.”

Geeze… $28,000 each. That’s a lot of money for one’s opponent to be giving. Maybe we should start contacting big donors… if only we knew who they were.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/10/AR2008071002813.html

Anyway… thanks for the article.

#40 bythelake – I also got the same reply from the German Embassy, and I wrote them again telling them there was no point sending our message to Dean and Obama as they are too busy kissing the mirrors and selling their celebrity nominee. I also told them that my single email (and those like yours and others) represented millions of Americans who may not know how to contact the German authorities to protest. I stressed MILLIONS. I kinda like this freedom of speech thing….

The Denver Group’s ad going out today (as accessed in a link further up the thread) is just amazing. I am so excited that a major paper in Chicago has this going out to the people. This has to have an impact. This has to make BO’s supporters a little nervous.

Last night I turned on CNN’s Election Express but only watched it for about 20 seconds so I did not catch it all… But apparently Michelle OBee made a huge elitist blunder, when at a meeting she said the Supplimental checks people receieved wouldn’t even cover the cost of a pair of earrings.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t spend that kind of money on earrings.

[[ I am still reading so many hurtful things about Hillary in CNN and other sites. I think that PUMAS should try to post comments at CNN at Wolf’s Political Ticker and Jack Cafferty’s file to try to at least balance the situation and let them know we are here and that it isn’t over yet. ]]

Can’t. Never could. They won’t let us in. The minute Cafferty hears the name Hillary or in support of her, they delete us. One sided censorship of a media outlet is not good. Not right!

We sure had a lot of action going on yesterday – more than 1700 posts! That’s got to be a posting record. I sure felt productive.

Heard on Morning Joe this morning that Howard Wolfson said on Fox yesterday that Hillary is not being vetted for the VP position.
I do not want her to accept VP position but BO better not dismiss her so quickly.

Precious is starting to flounder…

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows Barack Obama’s lead over John McCain down to a statistically insignificant single percentage point, 43% to 42%. Prior to today, Obama had enjoyed at least a four-point advantage every day since Hillary Clinton dropped out of the race over a month ago. This is the first time his support has fallen below the 45% level since May 31.

#77 Taffy on 07.11.08 at 10:31 am

What Happened to Obama’s $100 Million June?
July 11, 2008 8:40 AM

Sen. Barack Obama’s fundraisers were predicting an unreal fundraising month for their candidate.

“One hundred million dollars this June — it’s definitely within reach,” Obama fundraiser Wade Randlett said last month to The Hill.
The campaign hasn’t released its June numbers, but people close to the fund-raising operation say the total will likely be just over $30 million. While this isn’t a poor showing, it is an underwhelming haul for a campaign that has ballooned in recent months, has promised a true, 50-state electioneering effort and has told its biggest fund-raisers that it wants to collect $300 million in general-election cash by mid-October.”

All due respect, but we’re not here to discuss Obama’s ancestry. Those kinds of discussions about whether he is a Muslim or has Muslim roots or whatever, just cause us to be frowned upon as a group. What matters most is that most of, us if not all, believe deeply that he is untrustworthy, lacks suitable judgment, is inexperienced, and is too dangerously arrogant and self-centered to be the leader of the free world.

Therefore, I respectfully request that you and other Pumas leave the discussions of Obama’s race, ethnicity, and religion out of our discussions on this blog. We Pumas will not race bait, ethnicity bait, or otherwise bait. It is just NOT what we are here for.

Now can we discuss this idea of a second Boston Tea Party that The Denver Group is proposing? Can we say civil disobedience for change? Has a nice ring to it. ;)

Good morning from mountain time.

Just saw this on NoQuarter this morning, already my blood pressure is going up!!!Grrrrr…….

Negotiating Democracy: Brazile, Obama Plot to Keep Hillary off Convention Ballot

Here are his minions, including the infamous Donna Brazile, trying to explain how following Party legalities and requirements would be too much of a blow to Obama’s ego [H/T to Riverdaughter]:

The problem is “there’s a strong feeling” that Sen. Clinton’s delegates need the chance to vote for her, Mr. Devine said. Many are still angry with a party decision that they feel deprived her of delegates from Michigan and Florida. “You don’t want a situation where anybody feels they’ve been cheated,” he said.

A second option would be for Sen. Clinton to be nominated, complete with laudatory speeches and happy floor demonstrations. By prearrangement, Sen. Clinton then would take her name out of consideration and endorse Sen. Obama’s nomination.

“There’s nothing symbolically wrong to putting her name in,” followed by a scripted withdrawal, said Ms. Brazile. But the spectacle of a rapturous welcome for Sen. Clinton would be irresistible to television and could embarrass Sen. Obama.

~snip~

The Obama campaign said Monday that the Illinois senator would accept the nomination at the 76,000-seat stadium where the Denver Broncos football team plays so that thousands of nondelegates could attend. But the campaign hasn’t settled other key questions about the convention, including whether Sen. Clinton’s name will be put into nomination, said Obama spokesman Bill Burton.

Sen. Clinton’s campaign office didn’t answer emails seeking comment. Under party rules, Sen. Clinton’s huge delegate count gives her the right to put her name into nomination. “But do you do it?” asked Ms. Brazile. ”Politically, does it heighten tensions?

I truly don’t think we are spamming – we are standing up for true democracy and change doesn’t come without voices. I don’t know about you but everytime I press send on one of those letters I think “I am doing this because I believe in democracy NOT Barackracy!”

And as for the earlier post about Chris Matthews and his concern for passionate women . . . he only wishes he knew the true passion of a woman. You know what he can kiss of mine . . .

Dear Sonia, #52

You know, after reading your post I felt I had to share the fact that at first I felt the same way about race and ethniticity and if it was relevant to what we expect in a candidate. Exspecially because I am 1/2 Puerto Rican and 1/2 Italian and have witnessed the ‘sometimes’ unwarranted judgment of minorities. However, I have done extensive research and like many others on here, have become educated/enlightened in the truth.
In relation to what is known now-it is relevant because this man could be a SET-UP. Now, facing that possibility-even having the question mark present should state loud and clear that it would not be a wise decision for all of us to make. Why take the chance? I do not believe that the majority of PUMAS or voters are trying to be crude about religious beliefs or race. I believe that bad experiences have put everyone’s feelers up and we are not willing to take trhat chance because of our lack of TRUST (due to actions of a particular group of people). It’s like Classical Conditioning. All people in all countries will have a specific response to someone/something that they correlate that memory with.

Sorry for the long response, but I think it’s important that we all try to understand eachother and respect all positions in this fight for JUSTICE. I respect yours and I do understand but my concerns and many everywhere are a long list that when it’s all said and done-we agree on the biggest issue and that is that HILLARY must be our next President and Obama must be vetted and transparent before he holds the most imporatnt office.

Respectfully,
Maty

#1061Cosmeta and #1062 Lotts 1948 from the other thread – AND TO ANYONE ELSE ON HERE THAT WILL LISTEN.

I posted three times yesterday and two times the day before information that you were speaking about and strangely can not find any of the posts – and also sent an email to MarylandPuma regarding the same thing
Not going into the details yet again – but there is only 127 pledged delgates difference between the two candidates – if you take the 35 Clinton backers that went the other direction – and if you can get 65 of the 88 non committed – that leaves 38 left and she has the nomination – Hillaryistheone#184 on July 9th thread gave an excellent post and a website of exactly what you are talking about – those States and Districts that went heavily for Clinton but they backed Obama – these people above are the ONES THAT WE NEED to send emails to showing our discontent with their decision making – we would need three different letters set up to do it -

Anyone interested in this happening to give her the nomination – let MarylandPuma know like I already did.

Thanks

We should focus all efforts on those delegates for the next 4 weeks.
Barry has blundered so much in the past four weeks and just think what the next four could bring?
Let’s push (nudge?) those undecideds and the ones that recently switched. Let’s also find the other 38 who’s districts clearly voted for HRC.

Oh My. Got through, the polite but brief talking young man sent me to her voice mail. I am sure it is she who recorded her message. I identified myself, talked about the vote roll call, the inexperienced Senator who qualifies to be President because he was able to bypass the lower House and spend all of 144 days in the senate, before deciding he had enough of the senate and was off for better work space. When told I had 15 seconds left, I said, “I am a proud PUMA Democrat and I will never vote for Senator Obaba.”

Hi – someone is keeping track of the response from Brazile? I don’t know who to send it to- so here is what I got from her. I tried to send it to mamapumamass, but I am having problems sending email this morning.

——– Original Message ——–
Subject: Re: PUMAs going to Denver!
From: “Donna Brazile”
Date: Thu, July 03, 2008 4:01 pm

There’s a lot of speculation, but no quotes.
And then there’s the PUMAs, an acronym from the name of a PAC that formed after Clinton quit to supposedly stand up against the meanie sexist Democratic infrastructure. It didn’t take much work for me to discover who started this PAC:

With her name and her zip code, all it took was a quick jaunt to Open Secrets to find out her campaign donation history:
“>
That’s the only donation listed. So, not much of a Clinton fan but appears to be big on McCain.

The “About” page at the PUMA blog states the vague goals:
“>
I want to draw your attention to the first one, which implies that the PAC was formed to support Clinton during the primary run. But if you look at the date on the PAC form, the PAC was registered on 6/3/08. Clinton officially dropped out on 6/7/08, but for days before, it was basically known she was out.
I would like to argue that this PAC was not formed to support Clinton, but to support the media narrative about hysterical feminists, and to help the McCain campaign with goals #1 and #2.
I bet similar digging would show that a lot of PUMAs aren’t exactly what they’re claiming to be.
Update: Looks like I’m not the first person to do a little simple fact-checking.

Sent wirelessly via BlackBerry from T-Mobile. Please excuse any typos or grammatical errors.

Okay, just had to call and I left the message I wanted to leave! I told her that I was embarrassed that she called herself a democrat. I said I want you to call me back so I can tell you more of what I think! left my phone number. Dang it, i’m PUMA PISSED!

I thought this was illegal. Just received it.
This is our chance. And this is your chance to simultaneously help get us closer to that all-important 60-seat majority, and win the hottest ticket of 2008: a free trip to the Democratic National Convention in August. Even as little as $5 can make a difference.

Click here to contribute $5 or more and you are automatically entered to win. And each additional time you match your last contribution you get another chance to win.

This is the opportunity of a lifetime. For our country. And for you to be a part of a Democratic

ALL OTHER PUMAS – (Trish what I have been suggesting here is even of more importance than what I sent to you with delegates emails)

To find those superdelegates whose States/Districts won by Clinton but went to Obama – see: http://www.dncreform.com/Campaigns.html,
for those Clinton supers that flopped over to him you can find at http://www.demconwatch.com as well as the uncommited superdelegates – if we can get those three groups to recommitt SHE IS THE NOMINEE.

I called again. received a busy. Called again was put through to voice message. it was full. I sent my message to Donna Brazille this am. Saying that I wanted her to make sure that Hillary’s name was on the first roll call vote and no negoations with Obama that would stop her from being on that roll call and not excepting the nomination. She is the one that the people want not #61. He is NOT the nomine until the votes are taken at the convention and why does he seem to think that he is the one. If everything is done fairly he may not receive the nomination afterall. but the PUMA’S will be watching closely. You are not the decider of the delegates or the people. I have yet received a reply from her. I know it will be sweet. HA!

#188 Thanks Trish – you are the best – I know everyone hates polls – and it is scary because you can be attacked by saying anything – but further from a poster above – Rasmussen Reports showing that No Name has only 1 point lead over McCain – this when it was certain that the Republicans would lose big time this year because of Bush – the one thing that was troubling is that Wisconsin is double digits for no name over McCain – maybe that will be the next action item for me to go to newspapers there – and send emails to the superdelegates in Wisconsin. I thought so many of them had buyers remorse after voting for him instead of her……thanks again Trish for all the hard work behind the scenes on the superdelegates believe me I know just a little bit of how much work is involved – YOU ARE APPRECIATED and it never hurts to keep letting that person know.

In light of the comments in this post and my comments from last night’s post #656 — I think we need a growl on the sponsors for CNN. Murphy did you see my post last night. If you want I can copy and paste it again… but the short version is that I was furious with the representation I saw on CNN of voters that are Democrats who plan to vote Republican. They showed two people who gave extremely racists reasons why they weren’t voting for Obama. Which reduces the legitimacy of groups like ours. They never gave a representation of legitimate reasons why a Dem would vote for McCain this year.

Made two calls – both times put through to voice mail.

Ordered 2 Hillary t-shirts today – great that we are closing in on the debt – keep it up gang!

If we can just get one of those 18 million cracks to widen we have a chance to let the light shine through and get our candidate on the roll call ballot and possibly there are some Democrats with ethics who will vote they way they were elected to vote and the Super Delegates will look up and see our light shining and do the right thing!

An argument against Obama’s tax plan, 7-11-08
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0708/11670.html

So what do the data say? In 2006 (the latest year available), $706 billion of such income was reported to the Internal Revenue Service. Of this, about half was reported by households in the top marginal income tax rate. Interestingly, two-thirds of this income was reported by households making $250,000 per year or more — the very same households that Obama wants to increase taxes on.

Re: Lynn Sweet’s Scoop

Obama’s $100,000 garden grant wasted: He vowed to ‘work tirelessly’ to build an oasis for Englewood. It never happened.

http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/obama/1050869,CST-NWS-garden11.article
As a state senator, Barack Obama gave $100,000 in state money to a campaign volunteer who failed to deliver on a plan to create a botanic garden in one of Chicago’s most blighted neighborhoods.

Obama — who was running for Congress when he announced the project in 2000 — said the green space in Englewood would build ”a sense of neighborhood pride.”

Instead, what was supposed to be a six-block stretch of trees and paths is now a field of unfulfilled dreams, strewn with weeds, garbage and broken pavement.

Party rift on display as Dems settle Florida, Michigan
Written by Sam Youngman | Posted: 05/31/08 09:00 PM [ET]

“Harold Ickes, a senior Clinton adviser and a member of the committee, seethed throughout the day, but as the passage of the Michigan proposal looked imminent, he made a statement that is sure to send chills down the spine of Democrats who were already worried about party division.

“Mrs. Clinton has instructed me to reserve her rights to take this to the credentials committee,” Ickes told the committee.

While the results in and of themselves represented closure of sorts, the work of the party might just be beginning.

After the committee returned from a three-hour lunch break – one hour for lunch, two for an unannounced closed-door session – the vibrations in the room turned nasty.

When one candidate’s name was mentioned, the other side booed and hissed. When committee members lectured the crowd on rules and decorum, they were shouted at.

Alice Huffman, a committee member, asked the crowd to refrain from its antics, but she too was booed.

“When we get this vote, we will leave here more unified than when we came here,” she told the audience.

The subsequent laughter from the crowd was as loud as the boos had been.

All of the theater and infighting could be moot after the last contests – South Dakota and Montana – on Tuesday.

Former Rep. David Bonior (D-Mich.), a senior Obama adviser and former campaign manager for ex-Sen. John Edwards (D-N.C.), told The Hill that, after Tuesday, Obama will probably only need about 30 superdelegates to hit the new magic number of 2,118.

If Obama does win the nomination, he might find that he is inheriting a party with deep rifts.

Before the last Michigan vote, Ickes became the first speaker of the day to suggest that party unity is easier said than achieved.

“I submit to you, ladies and gentlemen, that… this is not a good way to start down the path to party unity,” he said.

The Clinton supporters cheered heartily.

PUMAs

I just wanted to share with you something personal.
Through these months, I had several heated conversations with my Dad because he drank the kool aid and was for *61. Today, I called home and the first thiwords out of his mouth were”He blew it; there is no way I will vote for *61 in the General election, he lost my vote; I WILL NOT EVER VOTE FOR ANYONE THAT SUPPORTED THE FISA” I know there are 2 more votes in his household that will not support *61 now.

I am soooooo happyyyyyy!!!! (I hope this is a domino effect)

#246 Taffy on 07.11.08 at 1:18 pm

as a side note to a post somewhere… :) I’m not sure bo has ever been vetted. Back last spring when I was part of another group one of our concerns was whether there had EVER been a background investigation on “him”. When we called the FBI the answer was unless there needs to be an ongoing investigation it’s the responsibility of the party to do any investigating they felt was needed on a candidate. So no, I don’t think there was ever a background check on him. Too many years unaccounted for. Don’t know what we could do about this. “He” moved up so fast, maybe a reason.

Dems sort out Michigan, Florida; Clinton fans furious
Written by Sam Youngman | Posted: 05/31/08 07:39 PM [ET]

“After each vote, supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) erupted furiously in chants of “Denver, Denver,” the site of the party’s summer convention.

Clinton made a tireless push to seat the full delegation at full strength of Florida and count the original results of both states with “uncommitteds” from Michigan being seated as such and not granted to Obama. ”

Michigan creating problems for rules committee
Written by Sam Youngman | Posted: 05/31/08 06:19 PM [ET]

“Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), acknowledging the messy math and sticky predicament, pushed the state party’s plan to award the delegates 69-59, advantage Clinton, based on exit polling all while he railed against the committee for failing to produce what he sees as a more fair nominating calendar.

Levin made a plea with the committee to seat all of Michigan’s delegates out of fairness, noting that splitting the delegates 69-59 in favor of Clinton was the only solution state Democratic leaders and supporters of both candidates could agree on.

“The Michigan Democratic Party has achieved unity,” Levin said of the state party’s proposal. “We’re asking you to preserve it.”

Levin acknowledged that using exit poll data to arrive on a result for Obama is not a “scientific” method, but he said it is fair and reasonable.

“It was a flawed primary, folks. Believe me, we know it,” Levin said.

Levin’s call for unity added to the chorus of speakers asking for a unified party. That chorus, however, was repeatedly drowned out by the boos and cheers of Obama and Clinton supporters in the room.”

Just emailed the following to Brazille, Dean and Everet:
Dear delegate Everhart,

It was with deep sadness I heard of your unprofessional and irresponsible response to a member of the democratic party somewhere in the realm of “Get over it, loser.” It saddens me that this is the “new” democratic party being ushered in by the likes of Obama, Brazile and Dean. This is not the party I knew and loved and it is with great regret that I must disassociate myself from your “new” politics of intimidation, crass remarks and shady dealings.
I have been with the party since the Clinton era and never have I seen such behavior. This past primary season has been a stain on the history of this country and all of your names will be associated with it forevermore. Nice legacy.

Redistribution Agenda:

“As the general election takes shape, Mr. Obama now faces the one line of attack he didn’t have to deal with in his long battle with Hillary Clinton: the charge that he is an extreme liberal whose tax-and-spend instincts will put America on the road to socialism. This drumbeat is already being sounded by conservative commentators who note the gap between the candidate’s post-partisan rhetoric and what they dub his “redistributionist” agenda. It will become a roar from the McCain camp that Mr. Obama must silence if he’s to sustain his broad appeal.”

I will be watching but I don’t trust CNN to report fairly. Here’s something I witnessed from CNN last night and immediately posted what I had witnessed. I will copy and paste last night’s post here again. I think we need to be aware of how CNN is manipulating the concept of Democrats who vote Republican. I was outraged at the representation they chose to air.

~~~~~~~~~
CNN pisses me off so much I want to scream. I thought I’d switch over to see what kind of things they are reporting and if they are showing any signs of changing their ways.
Nope… it was too much to expect of CNN.
They just did a report on people across America and who they are voting for. They showed this woman and man who the interviewer (in the voice over) states: “These people are long term Democrats but what is scary is this year they will be voting Republican.” I think to myself — “Oh good — maybe CNN is going to have someone who will express some intelligent reasons why they aren’t picking Obama. This is too good to be true.”
Well — I was quickly led down a road of disappointment — because CNN picked two people to state the most racist of reasons why they don’t like Obama. The woman says, “I just can’t vote for a Muslim.” The announcer’s voice over states, “Just for the record, he’s not a muslim — he’s a christian.” Then the microphone is held towards the man and he says, “I can’t vote for a black man. The only black man I’ve ever seen with change was holding a cup.”
Damn. I hate CNN. I am sooooo mad. This is who CNN picked to represent the crowd of Dems voting Republican. How many people did they have to edit out of the report before they found those two? I switched back to FOX. It seems more like home to me.
Political Wisdom: Arabs Not So Warm to Obama After All , 7-10-08
http://blogs.wsj.com/politicalperceptions/
Here’s a summary of the smartest new political analysis on the Web: by Gerald F. Seib and Sara Murray
“There’s a widely held assumption that the Arab world would welcome the election of Sen. Barack Obama, but Josie Delap and Robert Lane Greene, writing in The New Republic, find that the reality isn’t that simple. Many Arab opinion-leaders, they say, are growing cooler toward the prospect of an Obama presidency. Arab writers and intellectuals have looked askance at Obama’s recent hedging on his promise to withdraw troops from Iraq according to a strict timetable, Delap and Greene write, and his apparent hedging on his promise to hold unconditional talks with Iran.”
Clinton outlines DNC appeal
Written by Sam Youngman | Posted Posted: 05/30/08 05:15 PM [ET]
________________________________
“Because both states made an effort to hold a revote, Utrecht wrote, they have “taken provable, positive steps and acted in good faith to bring the state into compliance with the DNC’s Delegate Selection Rules.” In doing so, the RBC would then be in a position to “forgive violations.”
Utrecht also takes issue with the Michigan solution that would seat “uncommitted” delegates as Obama delegates. The Clinton campaign argues that forcing uncommitted delegates into one category arbitrarily would be unfair and would cost Clinton delegates.”
Note: The first paragraph is the part that has always bothered me, because this is EXACTLY what the DNC rules say they should have done! Really makes me angry that they do not adhere to their own rules!
Just read this on PUMA in the media
Will Bower of Just Say No Deal, PUMA Coalition spokesman talking on FOX “Your World” about retiring Hillary’s debt and calling on Senator Clinton to come back into the race for the Democratic Party Nomination.
The Coalition have raised an estimated $6 million to pay down the debt, raising just over half of the total in less than a week, thanks to PUMA donations during an Independence Day fundraising drive.
Sources suggest that the debt is now within $5 million of being retired, and the PUMA / Just Say No Deal Coalition are calling on it’s members for one last big push to retire Senator Clinton’s debt from the Primary season.
Subject: ?? for president
We need to get someone that thinks like an AMERICAN!!
Think you know who this man is?
This possible President of the United States ?? Read Below and
ask yourselves, is this REALLY someone we can see as the
President of our great nation!!!!
Below are a few lines from Obama’s books; In his words!
From Dreams of My Father: ‘I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.’
From Dreams of My Father : ‘I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animos ity against my mother’s race.’
From Dreams of My Father: ‘There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.’
From Dreams of My Father: ‘It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name names.’
From Dreams o f My Father: ‘I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn’t speak to my own. It was into my father’s image, the black man, son of Africa , that I’d packed all the attributes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.’
And FINALLY the Most Damn ing one of ALL of them!!!
From Audacity of Hope: ‘I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.’
* If you have never forwarded an e-mail, now is the time to Do so!!!! We CANNOT have someone with this type of mentality running our GREAT nation!! I don’t care whether you a Democrat or a Conservative. We CANNOT turn ourselves over to this type of character in a President. PLEASE help spread the word!
There also was 2 pictures with it.
Clinton campaign defends superdelegates’s influence
Written by By Jessica Holzer | Posted: 02/16/08 04:54 PM [ET]
______________________________
“Ickes also argued that delegates from Michigan and Florida, who were stripped of their credentials after each state defied the national party by moving up their primary dates, should be seated at the convention. Clinton won uncontested primaries in both states.
Even though Ickes, as a member of the party’s Rules and Bylaws committee, last year voted to punish the Michigan and Florida state leaders by not seating their delegates, he now argued they should be counted at the convention.
The party would be foolhardy to alienate Democrats in two states likely to be pivotal in the general election, he argued, citing the record turnout in the Michigan primary.”
Not sure anyone posted similar thing before.
I recently listened a radio station called “Democracy Now!”. I found it recently became available to my area using NPR channel. It is not main stream media but they have radio and TV. I just sent them a note suggesting them to do a series of stories on Just Say No Deal and PUMA with the links of PUMA, JSND, and Bill Bower’s latest Fox interview. They are asking for people to bring their station to local channels, and you can get involved. You can also do press inquiries from their website. I think this is a very good place we could get our voice heard to compete with the main stream media. More PUMA should make such suggestions to them and make them aware and report the PUMA movement. Have any one noticed this one before?
Here is the link:
Ridulous. What does this have to do with the presidential race? I know these targeted, “rednecks” may not be that bright according to Obama’s handlers, but surely they have alfready heard of him.
Thanks for your support
Your pledge has been recorded. Thank you for standing up to take back our country. We’ll be in touch soon with more details on volunteer opportunities for the fall.
If you’d like help support our 2008 election work immediately, the best thing to do is sign as a Monthly Donor.
Here’s how it works: you pledge to give a donation in any amount you can afford per month. We automatically charge your card today and on the 3rd of each of the four remaining months before the election. You only have to worry about making a donation once, and we have the resources we need in these last months to put the pieces of our winning campaign together. It’s that simple. Click here to become a monthly donor or make a one-time contribution here.
Finally, if you aren’t already, think about joining your local MoveOn Council. We need to gear up to take back the White House and Senate — and MoveOn Councils are the key to victory! Go to http://www.operationdemocracy.org to join or form a Council in your area.
Thanks Murphy… I enjoyed doing that one!
Who is in charge of the PUMPAC MySpace site?
I heard that you can communicate will all your ‘friends’, so I was wondering if we were doing that.
Also, I noticed that the Clinton Grassroots has some 80k ‘friends’. Can we do some cross marketing if you will.
Or can you contact admins from thos other pro hillary sites to give the PUMA PAC mayspace and blog some love?
Last I checked there were 40 friends and now we’re approaching 90. Cool.
MySPace and facebook may be a way for us to get the help of some of them young folks flocking to those online playgrounds.
Wolfson’s talk on Fox re: Senator Clinton’s not being vetted.
#73 Hillmania I saw his interview and as I recall he said he doesn’t know if she has or will be offered the VP spot.. He said she has been vetted over the years as her records are so public. I believe he said he didn’t really know if they were vetting her or not. My recall may be a little off but he sounded like he ddin’t really know what was going on about the VP process and Senator Clinton.
#316 bythelake on 07.11.08 at 2:01 pm
Made my second call. Her message uses the word “concerns”. Well, I left MY concerns. I told her that I am concerned she is not doing her job, do you really know what your job is? Your job is to do the right thing and put Hillary Clinton in as the nominee. I told her that I am concerned that Barack Obama will not get elected and we do need to beat the republicans but I will vote for McCain if no Hillary, along with 18 million other voters!
#317 jbjd on 07.11.08 at 2:02 pm
Spoke to the live person for seconds before he transferred me to voicemail. I loosely paraphrased the script but, when I was almost through, I said this. ‘That my Democratic Party would encourage delegates to the convention to vote for the candidate being pushed by the
Speaker instead of the candidate who would make the better President is anathema to me.’
Before I’d ever forward random quotes, I’d have to read the passages from which they were taken, if not the entire book. I’ve seen too many instances, where the quotes taken out of context were exceedingly damaging,, but when taken in context, were mild by comaprison.
Didn’t we aslo see this in the recent campaign?
#279. Murphy..went to the Houston Chronicle and posted. It is always interesting to use reverse psychology on blogs that are pro-bamba.
I mean, post a message as if you are not a PUMA and are curious about this group that is taking the world by storm.
Don’t always lay your cards on the table. It only makes them angry or defensive. I like to post on these sites as if you were one of them and not happy with mr wonderful. They won’t get mad and it makes them think they are losing ground fast. People love to follow a popular leader of the masses. WE are NOW the leader. As they say, build it, they will come.
Judicial Watch, Inc. files FEC complaint against Obama
Posted on July 11th, 2008 by Susie Devine
July 8, 2008: Judicial Watch Files Senate, FEC Complaints against Barack Obama over Questionable Mortgage Loan: Northern Trust Allegedly Provided Obama Special Discounts on “Super Super Jumbo” Home Loan
“Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it has filed separate complaints with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and the U.S. Senate Ethics Committee against Senator Barack Obama for allegedly accepting a below-market rate mortgage loan in 2005 not available to the general consumer.”
“The motto of Judicial Watch is “because no one is above the law.” Gotta wonder if Dean, Pelosi, Kennedy are aware of this principle?
I just got the following e-mail from *61,s campaign/Democratic Party:
Friend,
Every four years, the Democratic Party assembles a platform that outlines the party’s position on a number of issues.
Traditionally, the drafting of the platform is not open to ordinary people.
This year, that’s going to change.
For two weeks in July, people all across America will hold Platform Meetings in their own communities to discuss the issues and share their input. The outcome of these meetings will be reviewed by the Drafting Committee as it creates the final Platform.
No political experience is required. Your thoughts and experiences are all that matter, and they will shape a platform that — like this party — is owned by the people.
Sign up to host or attend a Platform Meeting in your neighborhood.
—————————————
So, now the party is owned by the people?! For how long do they think they can continue to insult us? Pleassseeeee!
#334 wontbackdown on 07.11.08 at 2:11 pm
#321 scathcart… Good! Her threat to report you as “a Spammer” is way over the line.
She is a Democratic Party spokesperson and has an “offical capacity” with the Demcoratic Party as a “super-delegate”.
Your individual voice is your only offical capacity to communicate with those in “power” to control our election.
Might I ad that complaints need to be filed against her with the media outlets she is under contract with. They have hired her because of her “political position/expertise”.
In fact – maybe we need to be sending our communications to her through them?
Thanks for sharing your correspondence with your friend. I agree with your last reply.
Our urgent PUMA message and mission (Party reform, etc) is bigger than the next 4 years; that is, we can “put up” with Mac for 4 years in the service of our larger vision and mission! We’re turning down BO to teach the Party & DNC a lesson… and we’re bringing to light BO’s inadequacy and the corruption and injustices surrounding him and his nomination with the vision of turning things around and paving the way for Hillary to run again in 4 years.
And Dems are not essential to advance women’s or gay issues! Here in California, gay marriage was recently ruled legal by a Republican-majority CA Supreme Court and approved by a Republican governor!
Has anyone given any thought to the fact that perhaps neither Clinton or *61 will get the nod? Perhaps this has all been orchestrated to throw in someone else at the last minute that, theoretically, neither party can object to?
On the surface, there really is no way to heal the party – she wins, his supporters go bezerk, he wins – we protest vote or stay home or vote McCain.
How will we handle that if it happens? And I’m sure we all know who I’m talking about as the surprise candidate.
The funny thing is Obama doesn’t even realize he’s just a stool pigeon for the DNC. That thought makes me smile everytime I see his face. Good Afternoon Pumas, have been out all morning. I made my calls but only got a comment line. That way she will get the message. MURPHY, can we use the letterhead that we used on June 25th and then copy and paste your letter? With that in mind, I’m going to get the letter ready and hope to hear from Murphy. Otherwise, I’ll leave the Puma emblem off and just sign it with my name and Puma Member. What does everyone think?
I believe that BO’s ancestry is a valid point. If he is not an American citizen he cant run for president. This is very valid and when BO’s birth certificate is finally produced, the entire country will see exactly why he has wanted to hide it all this time. He is not an American citizen, I truly believe this, why would he put a photo-shopped copy online and try to pass it off as real? He is still trying to pass it off as real, even after it has been disputed by the state that issued it–Hawaii.
There is certainly a story here, and I have been writing to the various media outlets asking that someone investigate it.
Called Pelosi’s office and the person who answered wanted to transfer me. I said I didn’t want to leave a message I actually wanted to talk to someone. She said that the DNC made the decisions not Pelosi and offered to give me the telephone number. I had planned on called the DNC again today anyway so I took the number and called the DNC. Spoke with a very nice guy and told him how confused I was by all the rumors. He said that the DNC would be doing what they had always done. So, I told him that I was new to politics (which I am) and had no idea what that meant since I had never been to a convention. He explained the roll call to me and how every state would say how many delegates they had for each candidate. I suggested to him that he tell his supervisor it would be a good idea to put out a written statement of the procedures so that these rumors would stop. He said that was a great idea and he was going to do it. We will see if Dean actually does it. If we don’t see one by Monday then I will call again. And again. And again. I really want to see those procedures and know that the DNC is going to follow them.
Someone took Ed Hale’s ad that he was going to put in the Chicago Sun Times but never raised enough money to do it, in the editorial section of a Brooklyn, NY paper, and they accepted it. There are several people who are copying and pasting the letter and sending it to their own newspapers. Also, might be a good letter to send to Dean & Pelosi. If anyone is interested, here it is:
“WE OPPOSE YOUR SELECTED NOMINEE
TO THE LEADERS OF THE FAILED DEMOCRATIC PARTY:
Know that Barack Obama, the candidate that YOU selected to be the Democratic Party’s nominee to run for president of the United States in 2008, will have to win the election in November with the votes of those YOU made into half-persons in Michigan and Florida.
Know that the candidate that YOU selected will have to win with the votes of the people in states like West Virginia and Kentucky, people he completely ignored during the nomination process.
AND KNOW THAT YOUR SELECTED NOMINEE WILL HAVE TO WIN THE ELECTION IN NOVEMBER WITHOUT THE VOTES OF MILLIONS OF LOYAL DEMOCRATS AND INDEPENDENTS WHO WILL NOT VOTE FOR ANY CANDIDATE WHO WAS SELECTED, NOT ELECTED.
You may choose to believe that we are “FEW,” and you may try to convince the public that we are a “SMALL” group of sore losers and bitter women. We heard you say publicly that we will fall in line in November and that we will vote for a Democrat when we look at the issues.
Well, you are wrong.
We are not few. We will not validate your corruption of the party’s nomination process. We will not fall in line. And we will not vote for Barack Obama, the candidate that you have selected as our party’s nominee through deals made in smoke-filled back rooms.
We are angry.
We are angry because you failed to uphold our party’s democratic principles. We are angry because you did not ensure that all candidates received fair treatment during the nomination process. We are angry because you stood by and said nothing while sexist, degrading and insulting remarks were made again and again to Senator Clinton and about her. And we are angry because, near the end of the process, you acted directly to undermine our system for electing our nominees by allowing 30 members of a committee to replace THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE with their own flawed judgment and then to STEAL four Michigan delegates that one candidate had earned and give them to the candidate that you had selected.
Indeed, just for running for our party’s nomination, you blamed one candidate–Hillary Clinton–for dividing the party and you tried to force her to drop out of the race by saying publicly that she was only in it to hurt Obama’s chances of winning in November and by trying to tell the party’s automatic delegates publicly how they had to vote.
By your actions, you have revealed that you have worked not only to undermine Hillary Clinton’s candidacy, but to undermine our core democratic principles. And so we will work hard to make sure that you will soon no longer be able to call yourselves leaders of the Democratic Party.
In November, we will vote for John McCain and we will vote against every leader of the failed Democratic Party who participated in the corruption of the 2008 nomination process.
Between now and November, we will work hard to make as many Americans as possible join us in rejecting you and the nominee that YOU selected.
I called a friend of mine today and asked her who she was going to vote for. She said, “what’s his name” because Hillary is out of the running. I told her that Hillary is NOT out of the running and then proceeded to tell her about PUMA PAC. She asked me to send her the websites. Wooo-hooo.
You are right, he is the most hateful, obnoxious and mean-spirited idiot except for Olberman, Donna, Matthews, and a few more. But really, he is the worst, no maybe Olberman is, no wait I think it’s a tie. Yeah, that’s it… Olberman and Cafferty, they are the worst and horrible-ist. That’s just my opinion, I could be wrong. But I don’t think so.
The following video might help to explain why there is no way in hell I am voting for Obama…. oh- and three generations of women in my family, including my 87 year old grandmother are voting Red this year. How sad- she said that it made her sad to have what could be her last vote be for a Republican – but at least her vote WOULD COUNT…. NO BHO no way- and BTW: The only BIG difference between McCain and BHO at this point (after FISA, Iraq, his agreeing to let states limit abortion, gun control, & death penalty- just to name a FEW) is that one is an honorable war hero and the other is an egotistical elitist- good luck with your election…. buy stock in Kleenex ’cause you are gonna CRY when you realize that these sweeties are not going to “stay sweet”, fall in line and kiss ass.
This was a really nice article to read. It’s an article titled What You Don’t Know About Cindy McCain Will Surprise You
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2043921/posts
As I’ve said before to many of my friends, “I may not always agree with McCain on many of his policies, but I know his heart (and Cindy’s) are in the right place and if it’s a choice between Obama and McCain — I’ll sleep better at night with McCain as President.”
RECRUITING BO SUPPORTERS HAVING BUYER’S REMORSE
As it’s been discussed, many BO supporters are upset about BO’s flip-flops and his vote on FISA. Many of them are complaining in BO’s own website and elsewhere in the Web. Maybe we can discuss ways to “compassionately” invite them to check out our “Just Say No Deal” coalition and PUMA. It might be a good time to think about ways to lure and accommodate those on BO’s side that are having buyer’s remorse.
Remember that some of them may have been Hillary supporters at one time and have been recently duped by the “party unity” calls, etc. Some are in BO’s side just because they can’t stand the thought of a Republican as president. There are various shades and degrees of BO-support among them and it’s a delicate subject how to reach out to them.
After the FISA vote, I was reading some posts in liberal/progressive websites and some BO supporters there are upset enough to say that they are now considering not voting for BO, and though they are reluctant to vote for McCain, some say they are now considering voting for Nader or another third party… or even staying home in Nov.
I’ve also seen some PUMAs here talking about going over to BO’s website to dialog with people there. I think it’s important, if we post over there, or in other sites, that, when we try to convince the BO people or invite them to check out PUMA and our coalition, to be gentle, kind; to not resort to “make-wrongs”, put-downs, accusations or “I told you so”, etc.
Remember, we are all Dems and some over there might be starting to lean away from BO and just need a little nudging.
I would also love to hear how some of you are dialoging with your BO-supporting friends or acquaintances (like FlgayGuy shared) and any good approach you’ve used to convince them or help them see the light. It seems that in presenting our case against BO, what works for one person may not work so well for another. For example, sending a link for to an article in a progressive website denouncing BO about the FISA vote would work better with a more liberal/progressive friend.
I would love to hear any ideas. I have two good friends who went to BO’s side when Hillary “pulled out” and I’m trying to feel out the best way to reach them and nudge them to our side (they’re in critical swing states!).
As a follow up to my post above — I once saw it mentioned on the news that even though the McCain’s have adopted and helped children in poorer countries, and even though they have a son in Iraq — they refuse to discuss it and use it for purposes of publicity during the campaign. That also shows incredible integrity IMO.
Remembber that Obama is Dean 2.0 (I should know… I supported him)
It comes down to his donor database. I don’t know if you recall, but there was a huge tug o war wrt to his donor base when Kerry got the nomination in 2004. Dean refused to give it up to him or DNC.
Then Pelosi et al… waved the DNC Chairman position in front of him.
Remember that Pelosi and Reid were outspoken about how much ‘power’ Dean would have… well the rest is history now.
Hi, i just recieved this!!
Today we introduce a new feature to OffTheBus, “Here’s My Take.” It’s the
brainchild of Jennifer Bogut, an OffTheBus op-ed editor and comment moderator, who wanted
to open up discussion in a way that op-eds and comments don’t permit. Think of it as a
citizen think-tank. Or a focused discussion. Or a debate.
“HERE’S MY TAKE #1″: How would you design the incoming administration? Pick
your presidential candidate, and then outline your dream cabinet.
You don’t have to nail down every position, but pick at least five from the list —
Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of the Interior, Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of
Justice, Secretary of Defense, Secretary of Labor, Secretary of Education, Secretary of
State, Secretary of Energy, Secretary of Transportation, Secretary of Health & Human
Services, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of Homeland Security, Secretary of
Veterans Affairs, and Secretary of Housing & Urban Development. Here’s President George
Bush’s cabinet, in case you’d like an example:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/government/cabinet.html
To help you out, check out Jennifer’s submission.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jennifer-bogut/huffpost-citizen-tank-wha_b_112036.html
We’re looking for responses similarly formatted – identify your pick, and then explain
why in 2-3 sentences. Be reasoned and clear.
SUBMIT YOUR ANSWER: Send your entry to campaigntrail@huffingtonpost.com and put
“Here’s my take” in the subject line. Include your name, a quick bio, and, if
you’ve got it, a headshot.
DEADLINE: Midnight Friday, July 17
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT: OffTheBus’s op-ed editors will format and publish your submissions, as
well as a quick post on the most popular and interesting picks sent in. Everyone who
participated will be notified when the feature goes up.
Do you have ideas for new community features on OffTheBus? Send them in, or design the
feature and we’ll publish it under your name, just like we did with Jennifer’s.
Best,
OffTheBus team — Amanda, Marc, John, Gabe, Ben, and Jennifer
I’m up for that idea. I have a close friend who went to BO when Hillary was declared out and I’ve been trying to educate her but I get the feeling she is internally rolling her eyes at me. So I try to chip away slowly and tread lightly. I have had success with others who just don’t like BO and are more willing to hear what I have to say on the topic. I live in northern Calif. and have a friend that lives in So. Calif. He’s definitely 100% behind me and the PUMA movement (even though he hasn’t officially joined). He made a call today too when I told him about it. I love talking with him because he always has lively contributions and insights on what is going on.
TOPIC: NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO
This story about the term “flip flop” aired on National Public Radio yesterday. I found it insulted the intelligence of any thoughtful listener because:
a) the radio announcer’s voice seemed so “amused” – not outraged, as she should have been
b) this is supposed to be a liberal news organization but their “favorite” candidate voted for wiretapping – and they hardly broached the subject.
They call themselves “Reporters”???!
“How do we define a political flip-flop?”
This is a joke I pulled off a website.. by the way where is the petition on the radio blog?
Scary: this is not going to happen!!!
An Obama supporter who was on the fringes of good died and was met at the gates of Heaven by St. Peter. “As is our custom, you will spend one day in Hell and one day in Heaven then choose where you will spend eternity.”
The newly deceased breathed a sigh of relief and answered, “I can tell you right now that I am honored to be good enough for Heaven and that is my choice.”
St. Peter shook his head in the negative and replied, “Rules are rules. Prepare for your 24 hours in Hell.”
An elevator appeared and whisked the deceased downward, then with a thud, the doors opened and he looked out upon a massive gold structure with opened gates, and there were Obama signs and supporters everywhere without one McCain anywhere. They all welcomed him and had a feast, lots of kool-aid spiked wine, and they had every wish granted instantly.
After 24 hours, the elevator appeared and he deceased waved to his friends and was whisked away upward to Heaven. There was instant calm and peace as people greeted him with a quiet nod and went about their business. For 24 hours, he heard soft music and laughter, and noticed that everyone seemed to have a job to do, a purpose to fulfill.
St. Peter appeared and said: “Well, what is your choice?” he asked. The Obama supporter smiled broadly and replied: “I appreciate quiet of Heaven, but I think I’m more suited to the good times to be had in Hell, so that’s my decision.” He replied.
St. Peter nodded and the elevator appeared. When he reached Hell and the doors opened, the Obama supporter heard screams of horror and despair, saw his friends running from strange foreign animals who chased them with torches to set them on fire.
The devil put a hand on his shoulder and said in a booming voice, “Welcome”.
What happened? Yesterday, there was a country club here and the people were having a big party.” the Obama supporter cried.
The devil glared at him, “Well, yesterday we were running for office. Today, we were elected.”
She said she hadn’t so I talked a bit about us and told her about the action website as well as the blog. I suggested she lurk for a bit if she didn’t want to join. I also told her how so many people post information that doesn’t make it to the MSM and how I have been able to get information that I would not have known if I had relied on the MSM.
reposting this from above..something to think about
as a side note to a post somewhere… I’m not sure bo has ever been vetted. Back last spring when I was part of another group one of our concerns was whether there had EVER been a background investigation on “him”. When we called the FBI the answer was unless there needs to be an ongoing investigation it’s the responsibility of the party to do any investigating they felt was needed on a candidate. So no, I don’t think there was ever a background check on him. Too many years unaccounted for. Don’t know what we could do about this. “He” moved up so fast, maybe a reason.
Thanks for the email — I did receive it and looked into the Flashnews service you recommended. It looks really good, though seems to be limited to the Pacific Northwest, CA, and TX regions — not that there’s anything wrong with that, but I believe we would also want to make sure that media headquarters in New York and DC received our press releases.
The biggest obstacle however, is budget. Right now we can’t afford to spend hundreds on paying for sending out press releases. Especially since Mamapuma, Marylandpuma, and others are already doing it for free.
Though I do love the automated nature of the flashnews service. We’ll continue to look into it.
That being said, if any Puma PAC members out there have professional media outreach skills they are willing to share, please tell them to email me at murphy@pumapac.org.
Thanks!
Like I said on previous threads, if Murphy, MamaPuma or I have not gotten back to you or don’t respond immediately – don’t feel ignored! Keep the creative process churning and send more ideas!
PUMA PAC has legal lines to tread and investigations to do before we can even begin to plan an action or project and these things take time. I know time is short, that’s why we’re being choosy right now due to budget constraints and getting the best message across at the least cost to PUMA PAC and the least effort on behalf of the members.
We’re getting FABULOUS ideas and we’re working on them. The GROWL was disabled for this week due to Murphy’s intensive secret mission. We will be starting them up again on Monday. Look for some of your ideas there.
Awesome job over the last 24 hours PUMAs!
#91 PA4HILL08-Regarding Boston Tea Party
When PUMA PAC was started we discussed a 21st Century Boston Tea Party but haven’t done something in that area yet. Your comment got me to go to my Encyclopedia Americana to see if I could get some inspiration for how we can tie in our actions. That is, our issue isn’t with the taxes yet is still similar because the colonists only wanted taxes that were under their control and we want a nomination that is under the voters control, not the control of the DNC. While I don’t have a thought yet on what to do in place of the tea I found a great quote that was the signal to begin the dumping of the tea. Samuel Adams gave the appointed signal, “This meeting can do nothing more to save the country.”
It has occured to me that in order for Hillary to be able to actually run for president in the fall, once we get her nominated, she will need funds. What if we can show a fund raising effort that exceeds what we have accomplished so far, and get her a nice surplus, perhaps about $20,000,000 by the time of the convention?
Since BO is having trouble raising funds, perhaps this effort would gain a great deal of attention.
There is still lots of money out there if Hillary won the nomination. Many of Hillary’s supporters do not want to contribute too much after the debt is cleared or I THINK it would go to the DNC for Obama’s run? Not sure about this since some money may go for Hillary’s run in the next senate race. Then again, they have lawyers to figure all this out so I guess our not understanding it isn’t that unusual.
I would like to know the real amount left on the debt too. We have been cleaning out our piggy banks several times now, and we never find out what kind of a dent it has made.
TV One, the cable network aimed at African-American viewers, will cover Barack Obama’s nominating convention but is ignoring John McCain’s.
The network is telecasting live, prime-time coverage of the Democratic convention in Denver Aug. 25-28, followed by “TV One Live: DNC Afterparty,” with political and social commentary from panelists. TV One is available in 43.7 million households, or about 40 percent of the nation’s TV homes.
Obama’s nomination as the first black to be a major party presidential nominee is an historic event for African-Americans, so it’s important for the network to be there, said Johnathan Rodgers, the network’s president and CEO.
“While viewers can get coverage of the convention from any number of networks, we plan to cover the convention from a uniquely African American perspective,” he said.
The network has no plans to cover the Republican convention.
“We are not a news organization,” Rodgers said. “We are a television network that is designed to celebrate African-American achievement. That is why we are covering this convention. If Hillary (Clinton) was the nominee, we would not be covering this year’s Democratic convention.”
Earlier in the primary season, I saw a tv clip of McCain speaking, and behind him was Bridget (the Bangladesh girl) standing next to Cindie and the rest of the family. ATTENTION ALL PUMAS*******
Did you have a chance to see this youtube video of Howard Dean asking WHY ARE YOU A DEMOCRAT IN 2008?
He states the following on the video: “AUGUST 25TH OUR PARTY WILL COME TOGETHER IN DENVER AT THE DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION TO NOMINATE BARACK OBAMA OUR CANDIDATE TO BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES…..”
And then extends an invitation to all democrats to send a video stating why you are a democrat?
I don’t know about you guys but I think this is a direct call to more PUMA action!
The Reps also put out a similar video asking why are you a Rep in 2008? But notice how they don’t state that THE PURPOSE of their convention is to NOMINATE McCain their candidate to be the president of the United States!
Hi guys,
Just sent this email to Donna Brazile, let me know what you think:
Hello Ms. Brazile,
Don’t worry, my email is not one of a spammer. I am simply a Democratic
voter concerned about our Democracy.
I am a part of PUMA PAC and let me assure you that Murphy is NOT a Republican.
However, even if she was – WE DO NOT CARE!
Our goal is simple, we will under no circumstances vote for Senator Obama, PERIOD.
It is not just some of us, there are Millions who will do the same. We will either
not
vote, vote for McCain or a 3rd Party.
Understand Donna, we have been cheated. The DNC and the good old boys have played
such a number
on us that there comes a point where you HAVE to stand up for Democracy and what
you believe in.
Now, you may not be a part of all the dirty tricks, however, you are a DNC figure
and MUST understand
that your moves will be questioned as well.
PUMA IS GETTING STRONGER BY THE DAY. Only up for 30 days and look at all we have
accomplished.
It is going to get Worse.
We will not support a candidate who lies and is constantly going back on his word;
Nevermind
that he has NO experience and is treated more like a Rock Star than a Presidential Nominee.
The selection of BO has been rejected and the people will have their voices heard
in November.
When it’s all over, the DNC will be broken and the Democratic Party Split in
half.
I am sorry you had to be a part of it. It must make you feel very bad.
Hillary Clinton is the ONLY viable candidate for the Presidency and everyone knows
it. Too much power to
the Clintons? So what, I think they know what they are doing.
Thank you for your time.
Miriam Planas
Hi Fellow Pumas!
Well, I just wanted to report that I have sent my emails (yesterday) and I called Pelosi’s office today. I LOVE daily growls! Thank goodness for the Puma activities – I don’t know how I would deal with my frustration and anger if I did not have these outlets!!!
#433 JB in VA on 07.11.08 at 3:59 pm
no time right now to read the whole thread but I just had to report on my PROWL to Pelosi’s office — it took me 20 minutes to get through and as soon as I said “PumaPAC” they couldn’t move fast enough to switch me to voicemail. Boy, are they spooked!!
also, on the Fox clip — great work Will! At the rally beginning the clip, can anyone believe the Obama folks were actually playing “signed, sealed, delivered, I’m yours”
in their dreams.
how utterly, nakedly demeaning to voters, and especially women voters.
these people don’t have a clue.
Hey Murphy!
Maybe we should ‘consult’ with D Brazille and group about our grassroots efforts? ;) I do find it rather ironic that she despises our efforts and simply writes them off as ‘hate’ because they are not in line with what SHE believes is right about grass roots politicking. Gosh wasn’t she on of those DNC RBC members who helped to create our movement anyway?! Gosh, how’s THAT taste Donna B! LOL :D
I just ran across a comment from a poster who wanted to know if the ‘rumors’ were true about how much was raised for Hillary over the holiday weekend, and if we were doing it again. Dunno if s/he is a potential PUMA, but left this comment
Martha
Yes, the news report was accurate. The gentleman you saw on FOX was Will Bower from JustSayNoDeal.com. JSND is a coalition of 230 websites run by VOTERS who all share the same voice – NOBAMA. Our reasons differ, but the sentiment does not.
P.U.M.A. PAC is a huge part of this coalition and we also did the fund drive on July 4th. The democratic process in this country has been hijacked by the DNC and twisted into a cornonation instead of a nomination. We feel the DNC and the MSM treated Senator Clinton horribly during the primary process. We disagree with ANY voter being considered 1/2 a VOTE under any circumstances. We want the misogyny, sexism, racism, ageism, and stereotyping to stop. The DNC had NO RIGHT to force her out of one of the closest Democratic Presidential races in history. Obama had no right to “UNCOMMITTED” votes in MI, and certainly had no right to the four delegates that were stolen from Hillary and given to Obama. He wasn’t on the ballot, so how could he be awarded votes? These are some of the many reasons our PUMA group – People United Means Action – blog.pumapac.org – is protesting the 2008 Presidential Election. It has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with experience, fairness, and transparency – something the current leadership at the DNC has overlooked, totally neglected, or disregarded. Oh, and let’s not mention changing the rules.
If you are a disenfranchised Democrat, 1/2 a person (until August at least – how convenient), or patriot who believes that democracy as our founding fathers intended it to be is in dire peril, join us. All are welcome as long as you leave the negativity, pot shots, and racist or sexist comments at the portal.
Got my ‘canned’ response back from Donna B. She certainly likes honey versus vinegar my Puma friends, becasue I tried to be very respectful to her while stating my case.
However I ‘m not sure she ever reads anything you send; Just pushes a button to send out a canned response like the following:
————————————
“Thanks for the tone of your email. I have my own views and you may wish to contact someone involved in the convention planning or the DNC.
Although my email has been circulated by sinister forces pretending to be something we all doubt, I am not a DNC employee or consultant.
Again,thanks for your civility. It’s now rare from all these hate generating sites.
Sent wirelessly via BlackBerry from T-Mobile. Please excuse any typos or grammatical errors.”
—————————–
Don’t believe she’s worth much more time from the Pumas, she’s clearly ‘got her ideas’ about all this and is not inclined to hear an alternate view.
#450 Maryland PUMA on 07.11.08 at 4:11 pm
They’re obviously under the false impression that all our decisions emanate from our productive organs rather than from our head.
And speaking of their diluted sexist attitude — did anyone notice in Obama’s fundraising gathering with Clinton yesterday — that he made the reference again to her “campaigning in heels?” This is the second time he’s done that (the first time was at the Unity speech). Senator Clinton’s delegates have been coordinating on their own, however, which they have every right to do. They are supporting one another and attempting to prepare a nominating petition to be used at the convention if the usual rules apply. Of course none of Senator Clinton’s delegates want to put her in an awkward position, either during the current negotiations or at the party convention itself.
Received a reply from James Akers, TX Delegate – reprinted here:
I am writing this note after receiving about 100 repeats of the same e-mail. Was a supporter, now I am not.
Hillary ran a very impressive campaign and deserves all the respect that entails. Puma and your tactics diminish that respect. Flooding the e-mails of delegates with hundreds of the same rhetoric does nothing to further your cause.
I too have been as passionate in my support of my candidate. In fact, before the nomination was over, I knew that I would need to step up my support if my candidate lost the nomination… no matter who won.
I was not dismayed by the outcome. As Democrats, I hope we all treat Barack Obama’s historic address to the Convention on August 28th with the full honor and respect it deserves. Barack Obama will be the first African American in American history to be nominated for President by a national party. This great accomplishment will be crowned on the 45th Anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech making it that much more significant for ALL Americans – male or female, black, white, Asian or Hispanic.
Focusing on this does not diminish Hillary’s accomplishment. In fact, Barrack himself has been extremely respectful of Hillary’s accomplishments. Hillary herself has done a great job throwing her support behind Barrack… and for all the right reasons.
I do not object to a roll call vote. I do object to continued divisive rhetoric aimed at diminishing his accomplishment. Your continued reference to “Senator Hillary Clinton, the winner of the popular vote”, and “the candidate who is STILL most ready and able to lead our great Party to victory in November” and “watched this primary season unfold with dismay” is disrespectful.
I do wish I received one e-mail, without the divisive rhetoric. That would have furthered your cause with me. As it stands, Pumas actions causes me to worry about your real intent.
I certainly hope we can all meet on the road to unity in the future.
Hi Maryland PUMA.
1) We can have Wil Bower request from all coalition members to come here for action items along with posting an ad for our blog and action site.
2) I see that Grassroots for Hillary on MySPace has some 85,000 members or so where we have around 90.
MySpace has tools to communicate with other groups, so that’s one area we can get people here.
It looks like PUMAPac is one of the prominent ‘action’ sites where as the Bower wing is the media. 18millionVoices seem to be the ground forces. So, at the least, we should find a way to get more people to recieve the daily growl and other action emails.
I really believe that we can get more via MySpace, Friendster and Facebook.
For my last company, we were searching for product ideas and business plans. Much of our research and discovery was understanding social networks and viral marketing.
Community tools or CMS systems like http://communityserver.com, http://affiniscape.com and/or http://www.meetup.com are essential to community, organization, networking and communication.
I have some ideas about visability and other initiatives that I will send you and murphy when I have a chance.
Yes, Senator McCain has a son in Iraq right now, but you don’t hear him talk about it. That says a lot about McCain’s integrity. He has my vote in November if HRC is not the nominee.
#484 tucsonjr on 07.11.08 at 4:45 pm
I stayed up all night last night reading pro-Obama blogs at DailyKos. The FISA vote has them all fuming. Many are refusing to contribute to the campign as a way to send a message to the annointed one, as if they matter to him.
There is much dicussion and prayer that Obama’s fundraising efforts will revive, but a blogger who watches the tracking numbers on Obama’s site says no.
The denial is unquestionable, but they are beginning to woory. The confusion is palpable. What strikes me as odd is that none of them realizes it’s not too late to nominate Hillary. I felt like I was watching a horror flick and screaming at the screen, “Don’t go into the shower!”
Why don’t they like Hillary? Obama doesn’t even sound like the same man and they’re still blindly following. Yet Hillary stands for everything they want and they sneer. The whole lot of them are under the bus with grandma and they don’t seem to know it.
Thank you all for being here. I’ve been sending money to Hillary and telling anyone who will listen that she is the most courageous woman this world has seen in a long time. What man in the entire line-up for the nomination on either side could have stood up to that vitriol and come out stronger?
She must be our nominee. She must be our President.
you can go to any state and send a letter to the editor. I hope they use my letter. I sent this to the Chicago Sun Times Editorial page (could only do 250 words so I took some of Murphy’s letter, Ed’s letter and my own comments:
Dear Editor:
The actions of the DNC have revealed that the Party worked not only to undermine Hillary Clinton’s candidacy, but to undermine our core democratic principles. Sen. Obama was selected and advanced by means of a series of inappropriate actions and inactions. Because of their smoke-filled back room dealings, we will work hard to make sure that they will soon no longer be the leaders of the Democratic Party. If the DNC does not allow Sen. Clinton a roll call vote on the floor of the Convention, in November, 18 million of us will vote for John McCain and we will vote against every leader of the failed Democratic Party who participated in the corruption of the 2008 nomination process.
We know that he WILL force the issue if he sees no other way to win based on his Chicago politics. Since we know he has yet to show a legitimate birth certificate. Yeah, I thought it was right on that he took the time to respond to all of us like that. I appreciate what he is saying, and I understand the reasoning behind it. However, we are not trying to ruin the party… the PARTY was ruined for us all through the Primaries. The dirty Caucuses, and on May 31. They want to put it behind them, but we are not about to let that happen, are we? It’s our party, or was our party too, we’ll fight for it if we want to (to paraphrase an oldie)
Fantastic post Indy. Instead of having millions of PUMA all in different fractures, it would be great to have actions reached to all major sites. For example the next time Murphy picks a time for a phone call, we don’t just blast a cell phone or switchboard…………..millions actually disrupt Sprint, PacBell or some phone service. That would make the news for sure.
#490 diva2 there has been a question raised about bo’s citizenship based on the year he was born..the flack over mccain’s was that he was born in panama at a military base but that has been resolved. mccain is a legitimate citizen. nobody is sure about bo. as i’ve stated before my father’s bc was destroyed in a courthouse fire. he was eventually able to get it replaced with affadavits. my ex’s was not recorded by his parents. he was able to get it recorded. so any bc issued to bo now, i would want to know how it came to be issued, not just see one produced by hawaii. especially after the breakin at the passport office. i still wonder if some things were changed on his app.
Just said on Fox that *61 has asked Dodd for info. that may be used toward Dodd being vetted. Let’s see, they both got sweatheart deals with mortgage companies, Dodd is on the banking and finance committee which is supposedly going after the mortgage companies who screwed morst people yet gave them the huge discounts on their loans!
What a mess and that is beyond scary having all these guys running our country. No wonder we have all the problems we do…
Has anyone else received a e-mail from a delegate named Jakers stating that he was a Hillary supporter but now he is not because of all of the e-mails he received. He sounds like he never was a Hillary supporter. Then an e-mail from Amy marie robert that questions just what the puma’s are and states that Hillary ran a very media biased campaign that is the reason she is where she is now. I don’t believe she ever was a supporter either.
Yes, we MUST realize that many folks won’t “hang out” here. But we need to get our prowls and fundraising efforts out to the masses.
That’s why I suggest we take a strong look at some of the items I mentioned. MySpace isn’t a place where I like to visit, however, there are MANY folks younger than me that NEVER leave myspace or facebook etc.
I’m not sure about MySpace, but sending out a blast email to our 90 members will bring in a couple people to both the space, our message and our initiatives. Via our space, we can communicate with some of the other “Larger” groups to ask for them to visit, sign up or donations.
I like what we’ve done so far, but without more members the less money we’ll have to demonstrate our seriousness and our power. Plus, there’s a lot of doubt about how big we are, how much we’ve raised etc etc. How do we counter that before we discounted for good? Remember, the longer we sit on issues, the mroe damage it does. Remember Kerry and Flip-flop and swiftboat.
I think tonight or tomorrow I’ll send some idea for visibility to bowers, murphy and maryland.
I also realize that posting concrete plans here is a bad idea. lol
But anyone else want to to add to MarylandPUMA’s question above wrt advertising and membership?
Unless something big comes out against Obama and sticks, I don’t see the supers who support him abandoning the ship. The DNC and all the big money backing him have too much invested and will stick with him, i.e., the birth certificate (of which I heard there are PI’s looking into this), the Whitey tape, and Larry Sinclair. I don’t think the Dems have the guts to vote for Hillary at the convention, they are all wimps, no guts. Hillary is the only one with the guts.
REPOST of FIRST RESPONSE TO TX DELEGATE JAMES AKERS:
Dear Mr. Akers,
First thank you for your reply. But I very respectfully submit to you that the efforts of PUMA and our allies need to be heard loud and clear by the delegates and by the DNC leadership. We have organized to do just that.
It is alarming to us that the Party has stage-managed this primary and has selected our nominee. The Party leadership has been complicit in undermining the campaign of Senator Clinton, calling for her to drop-out every time she won a primary since February, disenfranchising Michigan and Florida voters, stealing Michigan delegates, and strong-arming the supers into endorsing Obama.
While you sir, may not agree with our take on recent events, you must at least concede that millions of loyal Democrats agree with our stance. Clinton loyalists are within a day or two of retiring her campaign debt. The last thing we want is for our candidate to be beholden to Obama and the DNC. As for our motives, there is nothing to suspect. We are very frank is communicating our message – we will NOT support Barack Obama. We haven’t left the Democratic Party – the Democratic Party left us.
We will be taking one of three protest actions come November if the party continues on its course to nominate the inexperienced and unqualified junior senator from Illinois ; 1. Stay home, 2. Vote McCain, or 3. Write in Hillary.
Sincerely,
XXX
Loyal Democrat Since 1976/PUMA PAC Member
In the response letter it might be a good idea not to advertise that Clinton’s debt will be taken care of. She may need to keep that secret to spill the information at an opportune time to prevent them from having the time to think up some other new rule to use against her. Maybe I’m wrong… but I think Akers sounds like he’s part of the problem (in with Dean, Pelosi, and Brazile)… and if so… it’s wise not to give the enemy information on what your strategy is going to be.
Good afternoon, I wanted to ask if any of you have received this type of email this morning?
” I am writing this note after receiving about 100 repeats of the same e-mail. Was a supporter, now I am not.
Hillary ran a very impressive campaign and deserves all the respect that entails. Puma and your tactics diminish that respect. Flooding the e-mails of delegates with hundreds of the same rhetoric does nothing to further your cause.
I too have been as passionate in my support of my candidate. In fact, before the nomination was over, I knew that I would need to step up my support if my candidate lost the nomination… no matter who won.
I was not dismayed by the outcome. As Democrats, I hope we all treat Barack Obama’s historic address to the Convention on August 28th with the full honor and respect it deserves. Barack Obama will be the first African American in American history to be nominated for President by a national party. This great accomplishment will be crowned on the 45th Anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech making it that much more significant for ALL Americans – male or female, black, white, Asian or Hispanic.
Focusing on this does not diminish Hillary’s accomplishment. In fact, Barrack himself has been extremely respectful of Hillary’s accomplishments. Hillary herself has done a great job throwing her support behind Barrack… and for all the right reasons.
I do not object to a roll call vote. I do object to continued divisive rhetoric aimed at diminishing his accomplishment. Your continued reference to “Senator Hillary Clinton, the winner of the popular vote”, and “the candidate who is STILL most ready and able to lead our great Party to victory in November” and “watched this primary season unfold with dismay” is disrespectful.
I do wish I received one e-mail, without the divisive rhetoric. That would have furthered your cause with me. As it stands, Pumas actions causes me to worry about your real intent.”
I have received 3 from Amy Rodgers,2 from Laura C. and one from Jayfalconfox., and one from James Akers and this one just now from Teresa Trainor (“And let’s not forget the “Bros Before Hoes” T-shirts being sold at his campaign venues….
How to respond to negative replies to your letters…
Just a thought…
1.How about writing down reasons for them to support Senator Clinton? Her accomplishments.
2. How she stands specifically on certain issues.
3. How she differs from Senator Obama and these are the reasons that you are “urging them to vote for her.”
4.Taking it a step further, if you can find out anything about how the commonalities between Senator Clinton and the delegate (i.e. something that they may have voted similarly on or a passion of theirs of which he/she shares Senator Clinton).
5. Maybe add toward the end that you DO want the democratic party to win but you KNOW that can only be done with the best and most experieinced candidate running against Senator McCain and that is Senator Clinton.
6.Put yourself in their place. What would sell YOU on a person or subject? The facts/persuasion. But also explain how you will support the delegate in the future (make sure they are no re-elected or donate to them OR how you would vote for them, donate and/or encourage others to vote for them.) Be clear with your points.
It is Basic Selling — how would you sell yourself to an interviewer or to your boss for a raise or aif you make a proposal to some company, etc…
Maybe everytime they respond, respond with one of the points mentioned above. So, over a few days you get all of your reasons out why you urge them to vote for Sen. Clinton.
Hope this helps on some different approaches.
Go, go, go!!!
I certainly hope we can all meet on the road to unity in the future.
Here is the response I sent: (although I don’t think anyone got it since I have been blocked from every single superdelegates email list now)
Dear Mr Jakers,
I question your support of a candidate if your mind can be so easily changed by the inconvenience of too many emails.
I question your statement that Barack has been respectful of Hillary.
1. He flipped her off in a speech and then stood there and snickered about it like a teenager.
2. He made more than one sexist comment about her during the race, and stood by and did nothing while she was bludgeoned by the media.
3. Just the other day in a fundraiser to help her retire her debt, he forgot to actually ask everyone to donate. He had to come back on the microphone and do it after he had dismissed everyone.
4. To play JayZ’s rap song at a rally that says “I got 99 problems but a bitch ain’t one” is inexcusable.
We are not challenging Barack’s “selection” as the nominee just because we “don’t like him”. We are challenging the fact that a nominee has not been selected by vote at this time, and it certainly looks like the democratic process is going to be sidelined at the convention.
I certainly hope we can meet on the road to unity as well, but so far that road is a carefully staged illusion.
Sincerely,
Lisa
Am I the only one that noticed he said Obama will be “crowned”? Oh he got that right. #543 2Witchy on 07.12.08 at 12:17 am
I just had a thought. I noticed this on last night’s thread and I know it’s meant to be sarcastic….is it for real? The letter read:
My fellow Americans:
As your future President I want to thank my supporters for your mindless support of me despite my complete lack of any legislative achievement, my pastor’s relations with Louis Farrakhan and Libyan dictator Moamar Quadafi, or my nearly non-existent voting record while I present myself as some sort of bi-partisan agent of change.
I also like how my supporters claim my youthful drug use and criminal behavior somehow qualifies me for the Presidency after 8 years of claiming Bush’s youthful drinking disqualifies him. Your hypocrisy is a beacon of hope shining over a sea of political posing.
I would also like to thank the Kennedys for coming out in support of me. There’s a lot of glamour behind the Kennedy name, even though JFK started the Vietnam War, his brother Robert illegally wire-tapped Martin Luther King, Jr., and Teddy killed a female employee with whom he was having an extra-marital affair when she was pregnant with his child. And I’m not going anywhere near the cousins, both literally and figuratively. And I’d like to thank Oprah Winfrey for her support. Her love of meaningless empty platitudes will be the force that propels me to the White House.
Americans should vote for me, not because of my lack of experience or achievement, but because I make people feel good. Voting for me causes some white folk to feel relieved of their imagined racist guilt. I say things that sound meaningful, but don’t really mean anything because Americans are tired of things having meaning. If things have meaning, then that means you have to think about them.
Americans are tired of thinking. It’s time to shut down the brain, and open up the heart. So when you go to vote, remember, don’t think, just do. And do it for me.
Thank You.
Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.
If someone was really dumb enough to send this reply to a post they received, how do you think *61′s supporters would react?
