Denver Overnight

DENVER UPDATE, July 3, 2008 at 10:30pm: ORGANIZE UPDATE! Wow, Pumas — the response is overwhelming. We will be spending the weekend hammering out details and updating everyone. Remember, the most important thing is that you come to Denver. We’ll be there — with signs and banners and cameras. Don’t be anxious or insecure. It’s a big city — they can handle a few extras. Start making your plans to be there — especially on the 27th and 28th.

DENVER UPDATE, July 3, 2008 at 12:35pm: TRAVEL UPDATE! Puma PAC will be providing buses from New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Jacksonville, and Washington DC to bring Pumas from all across the country to Denver, starting on August 24th. Please help pay for these buses. Many Pumas will find it difficult to pay for getting the time off, motels, food etc. Let’s help as many Puma PAC members as we can join us in Denver. This is a special BUSES TO DENVER FUND. All donations made here will go EXCLUSIVELY to paying for buses. If we can raise enough to hire 100 buses, then hell yes we’ll do it. If 20,000 members each throw in $10 bucks for a free ride to Denver for a fellow Puma we’ll have enough for 500 buses. Grab your fanny packs and get your days off from work Pumas. We’ll have a mighty convoy to Denver rolling on August 24th!

 JOIN PUMA PAC HERE!

Hundreds of people ask us if we’re going to Denver. Are we going to march on the convention; demand that Hillary’s delegates are allowed to vote; demand that Hillary Clinton be allowed to deliver a free and honest speech.

Are we going to Denver? You bet your ass we’re going to Denver.

I don’t care if there are only 50 middle-aged women like me standing in the rain with fanny packs and homemade signs. I don’t care if the inept, elitist clowns who have the audacity to believe they in any way deserve to be called leaders continue to pretend to ignore us; continue to attack us like dogs; continue to undermine, ridicule, bully, and harass us.

Are we going to Denver? Will we be there to witness the final act in the Shakespearean tragedy that Axelrod, Obama, and Dean have staged for us against our will and without our permission?

We wouldn’t miss it for the world.

If you want to go to Denver for front-row seats to the tragedy, pick up your tickets here. We’ll provide a plan, signs, permits, and a film crew. You provide yourself, your fanny pack, your righteous indignation, and your voice.

Donate for Denver if you can. All funds raised will be used to organize Denver. We will buy signs, t-shirts, food and supplies for Pumas to share. We will pay for the cost of filming. All of our work is volunteer. All contributions are not tax-deductible.

I believe I saw an action posted on today’s earleir blog, entitled “Denver”.

You can also go to the Action Center at:

Trouble is… I don’t have a thing to say.

It looks like Obama needs a bigger place for his big head.
http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_9778858

Correct me if Im wrong…

Wasnt there something just recently about the DNC already having financial problems with the Convention? Now Obama wants to rent another building. Its not like they can give up the building they already have. The building they already have will be used the rest of the time that day and other days.
Then there is the problem of moving all those delegates back and forth; who is going to pay for that—Opps dont forget the gas prices.
For some reason I think Obama is getting a bit full of himself…
Doesnt Obama realize that his vote still stands on the super delegates. Already some in the party are getting a bit miffed with him. Hey we do have almost 6 weeks to go….

Something I’d like to add to this is that even though you may not get a reply to your post, that doesn’t mean that you’re being ignored and no one is reading it. I know there are tons of you PUMAs out there that do the same thing I’m doing now. Reading through each and every post that has been made here today. And like me, you can’t exactly respond to each and every one. PUMAs please just be patient with each other and know that we see you, we hear you, and we love you. That’s my 2 cents.

Hello All! This is my first post here. I will donate my $20.08 tomorrow. I am a regular on TaylorMarsh and I was a regular on hillaryclinton.com. Sometimes I tangle wits with some Obama supporters on cnn.com. Here was my last blog on TM tonite. Sleep well all! I look forward to great discourse in the coming weeks!

Taylor, God love you, I just cannot agree with you. I know after the primary, you shook off the loss and put your head down and charged forward for the Democratic party. If the leadership wasn’t so dense, you should have a position within the DNC. That said, I simply cannot agree with your assessment.

Firstly, you said that both candidates basically looked at going forward in Iraq the same way. They don’t. Senator Obama has been campaigning on ending the war NOW. TODAY. He has been saying that since before the beginning of the campaign.
He went on to say, after characterizing the war as the Bush-Clinton war, that he was the only person with a plan to get us out. He said this in his stump speeches, at rally’s and at fundraisers. Have you seen that plan? His plan says that he will have the United Nations convene a constitutional comittee on Iraq’s constitution where nobody would be allowed to leave the meeting until the reconcilliation is complete. Really? He is SO persuasive that everybody will sit there and work out all their differences at once? I’m not convinced.

Second, his plans states that he will be a tough negotiator ‘…with Syria and Iran sending a clear message that they need to stop meddling in Iraq’s affairs…’ I trust he saw Iran’s leader being welcomed with open arms in Iraq. And what does he know about the Syrians? For that matter, what does he know about the Turks? What is he offering in terms of a stick, or does he plan to threaten Syria and Iran with force to ’send a clear message?’ These questions went unanswered during the primary amidst his absolutely positive stance on what he is able to do.

Finally, Senator Obama campaigned on the fact that his judgement is better than all the other candidates in the race, Dem or Repub. He campaigned that you want someone that would get it right from the start. Why then has his campaign then adopted the stance that his chief rival had to which he disparaged her for (with the great help of the mainstream media)?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25519279

Futhermore Taylor, with his very visible propensity to change positions when caught by his words, his inexperience or political expediency based on the audience he is talking to, I don’t know what he will do. Remember that he is getting a lot of money from a lot of big donors. I’m quite sure that he will be beholden to them. Will they ask to stay in Iraq longer? Will they ask to have a few more subcontracts for their companies? Who knows?

The only thing that is for sure is that Senator Obama panders, and it is evident that he does that for his own personal benefit. So I don’t know what his positions are. I know what he said, but he has no political background I can refer to to say he is a man of conviction. This is the scariest thing about him to date. I have no idea what he does or does not stand for. Again I say, I am waiting to hear what he has to say when he comes back from Iraq. He was steadfast about that 16 months saying he was right and everybody else was wrong. If that timeframe changes, will he admit that HE was initially wrong? Doubt it.

Scary, very scary……

Hi Goanderson and Antifish.

I loved this article and thought I’d repost then go to bed.

Warning to BO: DON’T POP THE CORK YET!

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/07/dont_pop_the_cork_yet.html

Excerpt:
“All of the above examples of over confidence pale in comparison to the challenges Senator Obama faces within his own party and his share of the electorate. Despite their lofty attitude since winning the nomination, the truth is that while 18 million Democrats voted for Barack Obama, 18 million also voted against him. Whether or not the campaign wants to believe it, Senator Hillary Clinton’s supporters will not simply join the throngs of adoring fans that attend Obama’s rallies. They will have to be wooed and convinced as if the primary were beginning all over again. Senator Obama has less than two months before his coronation in Denver. If he can’t convince working-class men and upper-class women who voted for Clinton that he’s worthy of them, they might stay home or worse yet, cross party lines. Because of the support she garnered during the contests, Senator Clinton must be given a prominent, prime-time speaking role at the Democratic Convention. Should she blow the roof off the place, there’s no guarantee that some sizable amount of her delegates won’t vote for her anyway, even in the face of sure defeat. Call President George H.W. Bush and see how a divided and divisive nominating convention works out for the fall campaign.”

I say onward to the Convention!!

I wanted to post this so you all have some news you can chew on overnight.

Obama may accept nomination at Invesco Field
AP
Posted: 2008-07-03 21:44:25
DENVER (AP) - Barack Obama’s campaign is considering having him accept the Democratic presidential nomination at Invesco Field at Mile High instead of the Pepsi Center, the chosen site for the Democratic National Convention, two people with knowledge of convention planning said Thursday.

The two spoke on condition of anonymity because nothing has been confirmed.

Obama campaign spokeswoman Shannon Gilson said no decisions have been made.

Representatives for the convention host committee and Mayor John Hickenlooper declined to comment or said they did not know about the proposal. Colorado Democratic Party Chairwoman Pat Waak did not return a telephone message seeking comment.

Democratic National Convention Committee spokeswoman Natalie Wyeth said, “There’s nothing to announce.”

The convention will be held Aug. 25-28 at the Pepsi Center, with Obama scheduled to accept the Democratic presidential nomination on the final night, which also is the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington in 1963.

Obama would be the first black nominee of a major political party.

The Pepsi Center’s Web site says it can hold 21,000 people for special events. Invesco Field at Mile High, where the Denver Broncos play, seats more than 76,000.

Associated Press writers P. Solomon Banda and Catherine Tsai contributed to this report.

Hey,
Had to share something else Hillary inspired me to make. I made this about a year ago. I was getting a whiff of misogyny and sexism from some of my liberal friends. They couldn’t explain why they didn’t like Hillary and I made this video to get them to question themselves. I’d like to fill in the last frame with “hero” now. Any other suggestions?

NRA to Target Obama With Big Ad Blitz
By JONATHAN MARTIN,politico.com
Posted: 2008-07-01 18:16:17
Filed Under: Elections News, Barack Obama
(July 1) - The National Rifle Association plans to spend about $40 million on this year’s campaign, with $15 million of that devoted to portraying Barack Obama as a threat to the Second Amendment rights upheld last week by the Supreme Court.

“Our members understand that if Barack Obama is elected president, and he has support in the Senate to confirm anti-gun Supreme Court nominees, [the District of Columbia v. Heller decision] could be taken away from us in the future,” Chris Cox, head of the NRA’s political arm, told Politico.

Incredible work getting buses to Denver going!

Still don’t have official word here about specific goals for Denver, but I advocate we should not give up on Hillary.

I’m going to sign off as well but I want to leave this quote (again) and I will leave tomorrow too…

From JK Rowlings Commencement Address at Harvard and I quote

“Even your nationality sets you apart. The great majority of you belong to the world’s only remaining superpower. The way you vote, the way you live, the way you protest, the pressure you bring to bear on your government, has an impact way beyond your borders. That is your privilege, and your burden.”

What we are doing MATTERS. It matters beyond our experience, our life stories, our rightful indignation.

We are pebbles in a pond.

Trish

You’re probably sick of hearing this, but I really truly am getting to your stuff - I’m almost done with the logo and the Hillary growl for tomorrow. I’ll be up with the rooster in the morning so everyone has their assignments bright and early. (ok, don’t hold me to that…)

#72 sandipuma on 07.03.08 at 11:41 pm

hi queen good to see you. I missed you all

#73 emca on 07.03.08 at 11:41 pm

wow Murphy, you’re getting a lot of posts, even after culling the trash. I can’t seem to post fast enough to comment!
Anyway my wish list for the future:
1. reform of the democratic primaries. One person=one vote. No superdelegates, no caucuses (without popular votes), no weighted delegations -winner take all primaries. (small states could be grouped and hold their primaries first, larger ones could follow - one possible scenerio). Of course it this had been the case this year, Hillary Clinton would be the nominee and much of the angst of Democratic primary would have been over long ago.
2. A continuing careful examination of all information concerning one Barack Obama; in line with confirming what many of the posters already suspect or concluded-that Barack Obama is unfit to be President of the U.S.
3. Resolution of the democratic nomination by selection of the most qualified candidate by the upcoming convention. This would require a little bit of forethought if one Barack Obama hasn’t fallen on his bonehead beforehand, but again I don’t see any other person than H. Clinton more qualified on the national stage.
4. In the event that Hillary is not select at the convention, than our support will include those whom we think is better capable of correcting the course this country has taken, be it John McCain, Ralph Nader or any of the others with judgment better than Barack Obama’s.
Just a note, I’m planning to vote for McCain in the absence of Hillary, but I sympathize with those who do otherwise. The future will sort the seers from the ramble.
Another note, Hillary shouldn’t accept the VP position in the unlikely event of Obama offering it to her. My feeling is Obama will drag many of his democratic associates through the dirt in his quest for glory and I don’t feel she would want to be part of it.

especially the part about the popular vote. Superdelegates and the electoral college are outdated. they were created for a time period where people were not well informed and it was believed that they were incapable of making sound decisions on candidates. well we are all watching now and our vote should be the deciding factor.

From the illustrious Tommy Christopher at AOL:

Dream Ticket Update: Looking Good

” A point said to be in Hillary’s favor is that Senator Obama, noticing increased gender-based attacks on Michelle Obama, sees Hillary as being able to act as a firewall for his wife.

This tracks somewhat with what I’ve been saying, except I see Hillary as a firewall for Barack, as well. He needs that so that he can still seem above the fray.

Furthermore, in discussions with high-level Republican donors, the Dream Ticket is being called McCain’s “worst nightmare,” as he is banking on picking up a lot of Clinton supporters, and stands to lose a chunk of his existing support from women. ”

Would some PUMAs like to chew on his hide? He’s in the can for bamie boy.

I think it is strange that Donna B. is trying to undermine Murphy just because she gave $ to McCain in 2000. I once voted for little Ross P., even joined his defeated group once, but that doesn’t make me less of a Democrat. Doesn’t make me adore Hillary any less nor does it mean that I will vote like the majority of PUMAs for McCain. No one owns our votes and we are not sheep. We all adore Hillary and will do with our vote what we feel is best for us. As the blog radio said, 3 positive points to vote for McCain, 2 positive to write in Hillary in states that count it for her or a third party. One positive vote not to vote at all. I will get one positive vote for not voting or I will get 5 points in voting for *61 if he asks Hillary to be VP or become a huge part of his cabinet. I could stomach him if I knew Hillary had real power in his cabinet as VP with a real job, as head of the committee that constructs the Universal Health Care System or something as big. We are all thinkers, not sheep, and Murphy is no sheep either Donna B!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So Donna, keep thinking we are all Republicans here and you will be shocked this November when your job at the DNC is as valuable as a PUMA buck. Ca-ching! When *61 has to return to the senate as a defeated Jr. senator with little experience.

Other than Denver - this was the topic of hot discussions today too:

Obama opens door to refining his Iraq policy
By JENNIFER LOVEN,AP
Posted: 2008-07-03 16:49:57
FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Democrat Barack Obama opened the door Thursday to refining his plan to bring U.S. troops home from Iraq in 16 months based on what he hears from military commanders during his upcoming trip there.

“I am going to do a thorough assessment when I’m there,” he told reporters on the airport tarmac here. “I’m sure I’ll have more information and continue to refine my policy.”

During his presidential campaign, Obama has gone from the hard-edged, vocal opposition to Iraq that defined his early candidacy to more nuanced rhetoric that calls for a phased-out drawdown of all combat brigades that, at a rate of one or two a month, could last 16 months. He has said that if al-Qaida builds bases in Iraq, he would keep troops either in the country or the region to carry out “targeted strikes.”

Republicans, who have been goading Obama to return to Iraq to see conditions for himself, pounced.

“There appears to be no issue that Barack Obama is not willing to reverse himself on for the sake of political expedience,” said Alex Conant, a spokesman for the national Republican Party. “Obama’s Iraq problem undermines the central premise of his candidacy and shows him to be a typical politician.”

Obama’s GOP rival, John McCain, has been a vocal supporter of the Iraq war and war policy has been a central disagreement between the two candidates.

But Obama insisted that his position has not changed at all.

He said he is saying now what he always has: The war was a mistake and needs to be brought to “a responsible end,” but “we need to be as careful getting out as we were careless getting in.” This means, he said, that his 16-month timeline “was always premised on” not endangering either U.S. troops or Iraq’s stability, which he had previously been told by commanders was possible.

“I’m going to continue to gather information to see whether those conditions still hold,” he said. “My goal is to end this conflict as soon as possible.”

Obama’s Web site contains this direct promise about Iraq: “Obama will immediately begin to remove our troops from Iraq. He will remove one to two combat brigades each month, and have all of our combat brigades out of Iraq within 16 months. Obama will make it clear that we will not build any permanent bases in Iraq. He will keep some troops in Iraq to protect our embassy and diplomats; if al-Qaida attempts to build a base within Iraq, he will keep troops in Iraq or elsewhere in the region to carry out targeted strikes on al-Qaida.”

Although he did not specifically mention his 16-month timeline on Thursday, Obama called it “pure speculation” to suggest he has been softening or even backing off his position as violence lessens in Iraq.

“I continue to believe that it is a strategic error for us to maintain a long-term occupation in Iraq at a time when conditions in Afghanistan are worsening, al-Qaida is continuing to establish bases in areas of northwest Pakistan, resources there are severely strained and we are spending $10 to $12 billion a month in Iraq that we desperately need here at home, not to mention the strains on our military,” Obama said.

Obama plans a visit this summer to Jordan, Israel, Germany, France and the United Kingdom. The Illinois senator also has said he intends to visit Iraq and Afghanistan this summer as part of an official congressional trip that would be separate from the campaign-funded Mideast and European tour. It would be his second trip to Iraq.

Obama senior foreign policy adviser Susan Rice told reporters on a conference call that Obama would keep to his commitment to begin removing U.S. forces from Iraq “from the early days of his administration.” She said the 16-month timeline was based on “the best military advice that he has received” and that it appears to continue to be “still broadly applicable.”

“Obviously if there are fewer brigades or more brigades” there by the time a new administration takes office next year, she said, “that would adjust the timeline.”

Obama’s position has been that troops should only remain in Iraq to protect the U.S. embassy, engage in humanitarian efforts, and conduct counterterrorism operations. She said Obama would consider having the U.S. continue to train Iraqi police forces if they show some progress, “but he’s not interested in training one sector of Iraqi society to kill another.”

McCain was an early supporter of increasing the number of U.S. troops in Iraq as President Bush did last year. He wants to pursue the current counterinsurgency tactics to give Iraqis time to work out a political reconciliation. He has said he’s willing to see some U.S. troops stay there as much as 100 years but not if they are being wounded or killed in combat. Rather he supports keeping a military presence in that part of the world because of its volatility.

Barack has already fielded the VP slot to Hillary. Remember the meeting at Feinstein’s DC home? That is were the negotiations took place regarding her debt, regarding the June 7th speech, and the VP matter. Think about it. With all the visceral between the groups, Donna’s love for “us”, etc. His credibility is tanked as far as I am concerned and it was tanked prior…then Unity…what a laugh! Now, somehow he will convince HIS followers that Hillary really ROCKS…not following a magnanimous crowd’s suggestion. We know who she is. They don’t. She is better and owes him nothing, much less VP. If I am wrong, I will eat the cake. o.k.? (and I HATE sweets…ugggg)

One more inspiring thing from today regarding the letters in your inbox:

FROM MAMAPUMA

Today within one hour the PUMAs from this wesite sent over 12,000 emails to the DNC, and all the other politicians. But they also sent those letters to all of the major networks and all of the cable networks. They also sent those letters to the talk hosts on TV.

If we get media attention, we will be able to harness the power of millions. That is our job because we do not have millions of dollars.

Millions of voices - Voices of the Voters - are much more powerful than millions of dollars.

The letters to the politicians help us to get media attention and alert those politicians to the depth of our committment to this campaign.

PUMAs send those emails! Congratulations you are changing the world.

#141 Jeremy Diane Feinstein said they did not talk about the VP slot from the news I heard. Actually, we don’t really know for sure what has been discussed, even with the 20 minute talk with the big dog. I even heard that *61 was going to have dinner with Bill (and Hillary?) in a day or two…that was when they talked a couple of days ago. I haven’t heard anything since.

Please everybody, go over to Peacocks and Lilies
http://annabellep.wordpress.com/
and read Annabellep’s articles.
She has a Declaration of Objectives to the DNC she wants everybody to circulate and e-mail to any and all interested parties you can think of.
She spells it out in the post The Revolution Will Be Downloaded.
I think it’s worth the effort.

Hello….PUMAS

Murphy, I love the picture…..

I wish I could go to Denver, but I live in Georgia, am broke, I don’t know anyone there and I’m 18, so I cannot legally get a hotel room

I found something interesting…..McCain is competing in NY, he opened a campaign office there and several new polls only show a five to six point gap there, could be interesting……

My positive attitude worked and our cheers of go, go, go, go worked. You’re here. Glad you’re back. What’s happening here?

I think the lyrics should go:
“Hit the road Barrack, and don’t you come back no more no more, no more, no more.
Hit the road Barrack, and don’t you come back no more .”

That would be great if you could find it. If he did offer VP to her and she turned him down I will have to rethink what my next plan is.

#174 halligan on 07.04.08 at 12:23 am

Go

Yes, it was downstairs somewhere. I posted everyone to keep a positive attitude, that you were here (lurking) and that you had come back (even though you hadn’t posted at that time). Everyone thought I was “nuts”, but they started cheering and kept it up every few minutes.

“He has said he’s willing to see some U.S. troops stay there as much as 100 years but not if they are being wounded or killed in combat.”

All well and good, except for the fact that even if McCain wins the Presidential election, he won’t be President for 100 years. So that comment of his is off the table.

I am repeating your last sentence above. My post is speculation, not fact. Hillary has too much more to offer this Country than being Barack Obama’s VP. That is my opinion and like I said, if I am wrong, I will eat the sweet crow….and I hate sweets, literally.

#198 BillieJo on 07.04.08 at 12:32 am

#174 Jeremy …I don’t want you to eat your words :-)

I think Hillary is best as president, but much better than just a senator. VP or in his cabinet would be a move up, God knows women sometimes have to go the slower road to move up, and it would make it easier for her to rerun in four years and run again as president. I want the convention to nominate her in August, but if that doesn’t happen, I just hate the thought of her only having to be a junior senator.

Wholeheartedly agree!!!

I’m thinking about writing an email to CNN (Kind of a play on what piepiepie did) and pretending to be kind of ho hum about everything and ask them questions like “I’ve heard that you’ve been reporting only positive news about Barack Obama and leaving anything negative out. Is this true?” As it stands, they don’t respond to my other emails.

I wish the DNC convention was in Boston this year instead of 2004. I have tons of family there and it would be easier for Murphy to be there…..and I could probably go and protest, plus I could get all the inside political scoop from my uncle.
