Today was a thrilling day. At least 140 Pumas joined Mawm and GaryChapelHill in “Unity” New Hampshire to show the world that the Democratic Party is a House Divided. The media narrative is changing. The reporters are realizing that there is a there there with the Puma story. We’re not merely a hot-flash-in-the-pan hissy fit movement that will subside after being ridiculed for a news cycle or two.
The Puma movement and Puma PAC is now bigger than either Hillary Clinton OR Barack Obama. This is about our party; about what it means to be an American who cares about good public schools, safe streets, strong unions, access to college for every American kid, women’s rights, social security, fair housing, environmental stewardship, gay and lesbian rights, a fair shake for immigrants, universal health care, and a shared sense of responsibility for how America conducts herself here and around the world. With all due respect… except for these: free and fair elections, personal freedom, equal protection and equal rights, inclusionary policies; all the other polices which I see as Hillary’s have become BHO’s. So, it becomes self defeating for PUMA to espouse that, but only because BHO will now begin to move incorporate Hillary’s values and move more to the center in an attempt to capture the white middle class vote in anticipation of the General Election.
We have to remember, that although 36 million people came out to vote in the primaries and in the caucuses, there are approximately 136 million voters for the General, and *not* all of them have been following the Democratic primary season.
Conclusion: And please forgive me for saying this because I mean no ill intent… but your introduction seems self defeating becuase you have just described Mr O and his platform.

I am writing this e-mail to you because I’m REALLY concerned for our country. You know me to be a very outspoken individual but when have you ever heard me talk about politics before this election? Or, when have you seen me as concerned as you see me now about the future of our country? I have never, ever in my life put too much of my energy in any of this kind of stuff before because as you know I have an extremely busy life and I know you do too! So, what’s different this time? Why am I taking a moment from your busy day to ask you to please read this e-mail? Why do I take a chance of alianating you by talking about this stuff when you are such a dear friend to me? Well, we never had a extreme leftist, unexperienced, with no proven track record of any kind, a loyal disciple and follower of the Black liberation theology for 20 years who wrote a book inspired by a sermon given by his w hi te America hating pastor who he calls his spiritual mentor, and friend of America’s haters and documented domestic terrorists, a friend of convicted felons who raised money for his campaign, someone who has earned the admiration and endorsement of all the dictators and abusers or power of the world (all these things combined) run for the presidency of our country before! That’s what’s different this time! I’m not a bigot, a racist or a closed minded and resistant to change kind of individual, for I am myself different, and a member of a minority group in this country. No one else could be more against people who discriminate others base on race, gender or religious background than myself. No one could be more for change than myself. I don’t believe that socialis m and Marxism represent the kind of change any of us would want for our country. It is a fact that thousands of dollars in personal donations and earmarks were given to these hate mongering “churches” by this so called “agent of change and transparency” that now aspires to the highest office in the land. If this doesn’t serve as proof of how close to his heart this “cause” is, I don’t know what does. Would you donate money to a cause you did not support or believed in wholeheartedly? Would you stay in a church that promotes hate towards others for 20 years if you didn’t agree with the message? Is this good judgment? Would you be able to preside e ffectively and fairly over a nation as diverse as the United Sta tes of America if you considered a huge sector of its population to be the “oppressors” of “your people”? I don’t claim to agree with 100 % of what my pastor says every Sunday, but believe me, if he started using racially divisive incendiary language and started “preaching” hate instead of love and division instead of unity, or if he started twisting the Bible to suit his own agenda, I’d be leaving that church in a heart beat without ever looking back! I don’t think that staying in that church would represent the minimum amount of parental responsibility that my children deserve! Should we expect any less from those individuals running for President?
In terms of qualifications and experience, what has he ever accomplished that qualifies him to lead this nation? He has no specific accomplishments of any kind, and the reason I know is because I have researched high and low, in addition to the research that I have done, I have been open to give him the benefit of the doubt by picking up the phone and by calling both his own campaign headquarters and the DNC’s headquarters and neither could offer me any substance worth of any serious consideration! So, all I’m left with to make my decision of whether or not I can even consider voting for this man are his character and judgment, which seem a little grim if you ask me! Will charisma and flowery rethoric do the trick? Well, perhaps it would if we were choosing the next American Idol or trying the fill a vacancy for a motivational speaker, but he is applying for the position of Commander in Chief! Think o f the last time YOU got a job based on charisma alone. Perhaps it is this very lack of experience and qualifications what made him cheat, twist and manipulate the rules when he first ” won” his State Senate seat in Chicago by making sure to use technicalities to remove from the ballot the names of those who were indeed qualified so he could run uncontested! Is this the new American hero?
Let’s talk about change for a moment. Is change a speech you make or something you accomplish by working hard? When was the last time you were able to change anything just by talking about it? Should we believe so implicitly in the words of someone who claiming to be the ultimate agent of change has nothing to show for in terms of accomplishments? What has he ever changed?!
Let’s now talk about unity. Is it possible to achieve it by promoting division? Does he overcome racism by posing as the victim and by playing the race card on those who dare ask for a specific and concrete plan of how he is to deliver the promises he has made? I guess the answer is no, but playing the race card has proven to be a very effective method to deviate people’s attention from the real issues: The economy, the mortgage meltdown, the out of control gas prices, our dependency of foreign oil, the war on terror, unafordable health care, education, and his inability to deal with any of these issues or fix any of these problems due to his lack of qualifications. Isn’t it interesting how this “great uniter” would not hesitate to sit down with our enemies abroad such as Hugo Chavez, Raul Castro, and Mahmoud Ahmedinajad to name a few without pre-conditions but WILL NOT agree to hold a town hall m eeting with his opponent here at home unless a huge number of conditions are met prior to his meeting with him? How are we to believe that he is capable to reach across party lines to get anything done if he is elected president? One thing is clear in my mind about this character, he is so hungry for power and respects nothing that stands in his way to accomplish this goal of his. His “spiritual mentor” and the churches and groups he used in his rise to power have been officially thrown under the bus. His own grandmother was thrown under the bus, although it is my understanding that she has been brought back from under the bus because it suits the uniter’s agenda at this particular moment as he launches a “make-over” campaign in order to get rid of his tarnished image. Will those who cast a vote for him in this election be the next group to end up under the bus?
I want you to know it’s been very difficult for me to gather the courage to say what I have said to you in this e-mail. Please know that I’m not doing this in an effort to invade your space or to lecture you about how to vote. That is the last thing on my mind! My only motivation in writing these lines is to share my genuine concerns for our nation with you, who I consider not only and intelligent individual but a loving and caring citizen of this country. Please ask yourself who you pledge allegiance to? Is party affiliation to be regarded more important than loyalty to your country? All I ask is that you look at the facts and that you do take the time to closely examine ALL candidates and their records. We hear former opponents and party icons and leaders of the so called agent of change coming out to endorse him now and to ask us to consider giving him o ur votes and to unite behind this character, but, have you noticed that all of these former candidates, party icons and leaders are rich enough to pick up their entire families in less than 24 hours and relocate somewhere else in the event that this country goes down the tube! Can you and I do that? Perhaps the answer to this last question should be an indication that the future of our nation is in the hands of those of us who are here to stay!

Hey all, I just caught the end of something on FOX, that the Gallup poll has McCain tied with nobana at 44% and the McCain is taking offense that he is saying that if he McCain is elected that women will no longer have control over their reproductive organs. McCain again called on nobana again to debate him and say it too his face. This is something else we maybe can use. Nobama is trying to scare American women into voting for him. He can try to scare us but is afraid to defend his stance in a debate What do you all think?

Dear Hillary,
For over tens years now, I have stood with you; as our First Lady, then Senator from New York, and in your campaign for the Presidency. I will continue to stand with you as you fulfill your promises to the American people and the Democratic Party you’ve spent your adult life serving.
I am deeply disappointed by the current state of affairs. We are on the wrong road Hillary. As much as I understand unity is essential to winning this election, the ideals of democracy that so many before us have given their freedom and very lives to uphold; is larger than this election.
I can not in good conscience support this unveiled candidate simply because his position papers and his speeches would have us believe he is of like mind. Barack Obama’s history, his dismissive conduct toward fellow Americans, and his unscrupulous campaign tactics might have prevailed in the short term, but I see them as red flags. His shady associations, his hired cyber-bullies, and the hated expressed by many of his supporters reflect his distain for the values and needs of most Americans.
Barack Obama described his candidacy accurately when he said, “We don’t need the people. We need the checks.”
Hillary, we are rolling the dice based upon rousing speeches and artful fundraising. History has shown this precedent to be treacherous waters to navigate in the long-term.

Conflucians, this primary season has been strange and tumultuous. The outcome is still, as yet, uncertain and we are very serious about our cause. We can not support or vote for Barack Obama because he is an unready candidate and the way in which he was selected by the DNC cancelled out the millions of voters in the bigger Democratic and Swing States where Clinton won decisively. We suspect that the fix was in since last year when the RBC penalized Florida and Michigan with a 100% loss of their delegates and in spite of what James Roosevelt, co-chairman of the RBC, says, we do not believe the outcome on May 31 was fair or within the rules. What we want is a fair and transparent convention where Hillary Clinton can make her case to the superdelegates and if we don’t get it, we will take our votes and walk.
So, there’s the serious part. And we are sticking with it.
Now, as to the means? Well, PUMAs, let’s leave that up to our oh so fertile imaginations.

For me, this issue is about reclaiming the Democratic party for the people, which goes beyond Hillary herself, although I still hope she’s our nominee (and I’m trying to keep in mind Firebelle Puma’s reasoning that HRC has to placate Obama supporters if they are to accept her as the nominee in the event he self-destructs before the convention — I suspect the Republicans must have some kind of news bomb they’re waiting to throw till later).
susy my concern isn’t just that. about 2 weeks after inauguration all tv is digital. one click and it is shut off. talk about govt control! the same can happen with cell phones and most people are giving up their land lines for them. It’s scary who can have the power to do this.

It seems *61 alienated top newspaper editors by opting out of public financing in the GE. Here is a short excerpt from the Politico article.
But Obama’s announcement Thursday that he would become the first candidate to opt out of the public financing program for the general election was a big deal for some of the nation’s most influential newspaper editorial boards, which have long been ardent champions of campaign finance reform and which had thought they’d found a kindred spirit on the issue.

Thanks to any of you who were out there at the rally today. Im stuck in Texas but I saw on at least 1 show they interviewed a couple of the Hillary supporters there who said they would vote McCain or write in Hillary in November. And I know I saw 1 male PUMA speaker on FOX I believe, letting them know this is a party divided, not united. Obama cronies will keep trying to convince the media and America that we really don’t exist and that those “few” who are still angry will come around to voting Obama in November. I love Hillary but I will never ever ever vote for Obama. I pray he does not make her the VP because though I would not vote for the ticket, some Hillary supporters might be swayed to accept 2nd best..and that is unacceptable.
I sat out on a corner and sold caps,watches and sunglasses to get money for 2 PUMA shirts. I will do it again. I am going to a Las Vegas meeting tomorrow for Hillary. I will let you all know how that goes.
There are lots of people who can not donate to retire the debt for lots of reason. Some people are maxed out and some people just do not have the resources at the moment.
I’m thinking we could harness our passion and creativity and put it toward the debt as one of our projects. Some people don’t have money, but they have time and ideas.

The winner becomes the nominee and then the GE decides the president. Eliminates crossover voting. I just rewatched the rally as I taped it on C-Span.. and I an convinced that BHO is trying to use his term, “bamboozle” the Hillary folks into believing that Hillary will be his running mate just to get their votes as he moves more toward the center to capture her middle class votes… and then he will throw her under the bus and choose someone else for his running mate.

I’m with you on the issue of debates. I’ve been pushing this for days, because the DNC doesn’t care about any of our other arguments. Thus I think we must look forward for other opportunities to be successful.
Obama is afraid of debating McCain, and for good reason. He knows that McCain will expose his weaknesses. He knows he’s extremely vulnerable without a teleprompter and the scripted words of his speech writers.
So every opportunity I get, I push the issue. I’ve written to McCain, encouraging him to keep challenging Obama. I’ve written to Nader, suggesting that he take McCain up on the offer, which would make Obama look like even more of a coward. I’ve written to the DNC, Nancy Pelosi, Donna Brazille, and others, telling them that Obama doesn’t stand a chance of getting my vote if he won’t debate McCain and give voters a chance to compare the candidates. I’ve written to the media, nudging them to keep egging Obama on.
I’d be honored, my friend, if you join me in this effort. Maybe I’m wrong, but I see this as Obama’s greatest vulnerability. So that’s where I want to focus my attention.

Hummm…. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve been watching this primary from day one, and have had lots of time to study and observe the man—and yes, I even saw him for the first time when he did John Kerry’s Keynote address. I recall that night media pundents saying that BHO were being “groomed” to become the next president. At the same time, media were speculating that the #1 person to beat would be Hillary Clinton.
So I think, he studied her and all her policies so he can run the campaign that he did. There was very little difference between them as we all know. And except for his speech saying he was against the War, he matched her perfectly. That WAS a calculated man who was betting that he could win the nomination on his 1 good quality of being an inspirational speech maker. And then after he gets closer to the General Election to incorporate all her ideas including Universal Healthcare to win over the white middle class… which is exactly what he is doing now. Her platform will become his and the General Election viewer will not know that platform was Hillary’s. IOW, he will try to take *all* the credit for them… as if he worked for them.
Until we have the ability (hoping, hoping!!!!) to respond immediately to the comment being made, in threaded conversation, there is no way to have a conversation….so many worthy ideas, comments and such will die before they’ve been explored.
I’m lucky if I can remember one name and post #, let alone all whom I wish to acknowledge!!!

Taffy, the bill is already in the works, authored by Bill Nelson…one person, one vote! And he divides the country into regions, which each take a turn at being first in subsequent primary seasons.
This is a true solution, because our nation is too big to crisscross for one deadline. Let alone, as this primary proved…we need some extra time to vet the candidates!

As the political pundrity predicted, Sen. Barack Obama has opted to bypass the public campaign financing available to presidential candidates for the general election. The presumptive Democratic nominee said Thursday that he will rely on his record-shattering fundraising machine instead. It’s expected to give Obama a considerable financial advantage over his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain, who has agreed to spend only the public funds provided by this post-Watergate election reform in his general election campaign.
Obama had long indicated that he, too, would limit his general election campaign to public financing. Last fall, he wrote in a questionnaire that he would “aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election.”
Obama’s reversal is hugely disappointing. It almost certainly will doom legislation before Congress that would update and strengthen public campaign financing for presidential races. It could be a death knell for the 34-year-old Presidential Election Campaign Fund.
Candidates of both major political parties have opted not to participate in the public financing system during their primary campaigns, but this is the first time a major party’s candidate has declined public financing for the general election. This is a troubling precedent — a serious setback for efforts to limit the role of special interest money in government and to clean up elections.
The Obama campaign Thursday and Friday attempted to put a positive spin on the candidate’s rejection of public financing, claiming the system was “broken,” pointing to the Republicans’ use of so-called 527 groups to churn out attack ads in the previous election and pointing to the campaign’s large number of small donors. The fact is the public financing system was not broken for the general elections, until now, and the outside groups producing the most attack ads to date are allied with Obama.
As for the importance of small donors in Obama’s campaign, there’s some debate. Jay Mandle, an economics professor at Colgate University and author of “Democracy, America, and the Age of Globalization,” writes in an op-ed for The Washington Post that the role of small donations in the primary campaigns of leading Democratic nominees actually declined this year from the previous year. In any event, Mandle writes that “by themselves, small donations do not offer a real corrective to the pay-to-play system.”
There’s no way the Obama campaign can spin this to appear as if Thursday’s decision advances the cause of election reform. Opting out of public financing was a calculated political choice. It may be the smart political choice, in that the campaign likely can raise and spend more than twice the nearly $85 million in public funds that McCain will have available to spend in the 10 weeks between the nominating conventions and the November election. And, too, polls indicate that the fate of the Presidential Election Fund doesn’t rank very high on voters’ lists of concerns. It should, because public campaign financing is the one way to ensure that elected officials put the public interest ahead of wealthy special interests.

The Human Rights Campaign has drank the koolaid. This is the response I got after my email explaining why I disagree with their endorsement of Barack Obama. I just glanced over it, but one thing that struck me is the second sentence which says he sponsored Federal legislation in 2004. Wonder how he did that when he didn’t enter the Senate until January 2005? The entire thing sounds like they are grasping at straws. Who cares that Obama took an AIDS test? Sen. Barack Obama has been a global leader in the fight against AIDS. He traveled to Kenya and took a public HIV test to encourage testing and reduce the stigma of the disease. Have we gotten a full report from anyone about Unity? I’ve seen bits and pieces on the blog, but there’s no many that I probably missed something.

I still think it is very important that we let the Human Rights Campaign know how we as PUMAs feel about his candidacy. Maybe the HRC as a whole has drunk the kool-aid, but I am sure we can catch some of the wonderful volunteers.
Regarding the abortion issue that the liberal Democrat men think they can use to scare us in to submission. Things have changed since Roe vs Wade.
1. Roe v Wade has been law for 35 years so it is established law.
2. The average age in the USA is around 35 and it was much lower when Roe v Wade was decided. That means there are a whole lot of formerly radical women who are no longer fertile and could not possibly need abortions.
3. Abortion regret is a topic of conversation among middle aged women and in listening to these stories at stitch and bitches and various other female gatherings a common theme is that many women felt forced into abortions by their husbands or lovers.
4. Birth control is easier to get, more effective and safer than in 1970.
5. And this may be the most important reason why men are not going to end abortion rights. Paternity testing is spot on now. For $300. pregnant women can accurately identify the father of her child and go after him for support and cause him problems which he doesn’t want public. That was not a possibility in the 70′s a man could always say a pregnant woman was a nutty slut preying on him. Many liberal Democratic men do not care about women’s reproductive rights but they care about their own rights.
When I fold my hands I am usually bored, was Obama bored when she was talking.

I can’t remember who suggested that Murphy do more interview on bigger tv stations… but I think we shouldn’t push it… If you grow to fast, you may not be able to keep up with the increase. Guess what I mean is, Murphy needs helpers FIRST before she can spend time away from her pc. She cannot run this blog which is becoming a full time job and then be expected to do lots of interviews.
So my suggestion is… let it go at it’s own pace without pressing for it to happen. Have faith in God and that you will be led.

IMPORTANT read this piece by Heidi Li Feldman (just posted on her blog minutes ago) regarding the legal issues of the roll call in Denver. She is a law professor at Georgetown and a founder of THE DENVER GROUP which is collecting money to do a media campaign before the convention. Maybe we should consider pooling our media money with theirs for maximum impact this summer?
Friends, the time HAS come for UNITY
A surprising number of people sent questions to me today asking whether the Democratic Party is required to hold a roll call vote at its convention this August. Rather than answer individually, I thought I would use this space to express my view on the point.
My view: I do not know. The main reason I do not know is that I do not know what the current Party rules and bylaws require. But there would be little point in researching what the current rules or bylaws require because the Party can modify its rules and bylaws via any number of mechanisms, so regardless of what the rules or bylaws say, whether there will be a roll call vote remains an open question.
At the fundraiser summit held at the Mayflower last night, Senator Obama was asked whether he supported or expected a roll call vote at the convention. He did not answer the question directly. When he was pressed by the questioner for a direct answer, he replied that he was not going to “negotiate” the convention at the Mayflower event last night.
Apparently, then, Senator Obama does not know or did not know last night – or chose not to tell us of his knowledge – whether there will be a roll call vote at the convention in Denver.
So, I don’t know and Senator Obama did not enlighten the questioner last night. Dr. Dean has not spoken on the point. Senator Obama told us he was proud to be the leader of the Democratic Party. Dr. Dean has not resigned as chair of the Party. They would seem to be the ones who could answer the roll call question clearly. I will write to each of them for an answer.
Meanwhile, though, I want to say that the time has indeed come for unity. Unity among Democrats.
All Democrats should unify in expecting the Democratic Party to abide by democratic principles and procedures at its convention this summer. I believe that those principles require the highest standards of transparency and meticulously fair procedures. Indeed, I believe this so strongly that I am working hard to help Democrats unite in the name of democracy – a cause that has little or nothing do with which particular candidate any particular Democrat voted for during this primary season.

No. Endorsements are always done that way. But what was unusual is that the endorser usually walks off stage after making their speech. He wanted her there the entire time, and even used hand gestures egging her supporters on when they began to chant, Hillary! Hillary! Hillary! … IOW, he wanted to give folks the impression that they were uniting because he is chosing her for his Running Mate. And I betcha he does not. I agree. We should make a Puma PAC statement to present to HRC. BO has done so much during the campaign. He paraded around with the homophobe McClurkin in SC to get in good with the black churches, he has played off several gay publications such as The Advocate who asked for interviews and he refused to be photographed with SF Mayor Gavin Newsome because of his support for gay marriage. That’s just three things off the top of my head. I’m sure we can find more if we research.
This in reference to earlier in this thread about a joint ticket. It just does not sit right with me. A. He is completely unqualified to be POTUS and B. It would pain me to no end to see Hillary his second. Its just not right.

For info on this, see the official “Call for the 2008 Democratic National Convention” found on http://www.democrats. org (p.s. Everyone should bone up on this stuff right now!)
…and on page 17, under “Roll Call for Presidential Candidate” it states:
“Delegates may vote for the candidate of their choice whether or not the name of such candidate was placed in nomination. Any vote cast other than a vote for a presidential candidate meeting the requirements of Article VI of this Call and Rule 12.K of the 2008 Delegate Selection Rules shall be considered a vote for “Present.”
It also states on page 19 that “All delegates to the National Convention pledged to a presidential candidate shall in good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them.”
As for what is said in Article VI Presidential Candidates, it states on page 8 that “The term ‘presidential candidate’ herein shall mean any person who, as determined by the National Chairperson of the DNC, has accrued delegates in the nominating process and plans to seek the nomination, has established substantial support for his or her nomination as the Democratic candidate for the Office of the President of the United States, is a bona fide Democrat whose record of public service, accomplishment, public writings and/or public statements affirmatively demonstrates that he or she is faithful to the interests, welfare, and success of the Democratic Party of the U.S., and will participate in the Convention in good faith.”
(I am still trying to locate “Rule 12.K.”)
SO this means we get on the horn, make sure Hillary does NOT release her delegates before the convention, and we continue to work the superdelegates between now and the Denver vote. As if you didn’t already know it!! But it’s here in black and white.

My response is always the same… if you know how this government is supposed to work and in order for a nominated person to get through the process, and believe me… the Dems will have an easy Majority in both Houses this fall, (in spite of ‘pussies’ like Reid and Pelosi who still have to hold Bush & Co.s feet to the fire for all the stuff they have done outside the law.) No rightwing cook can be voted through, so the issue is irrelevant.

I have stopped watching TV news because all I see is a distorted view of the political process in this country. I appreciate what I am able to read in this venue because it presents a divergent view from what mainstream media shows. I fear there is a clear and present danger in this country from mass media outlets being owned by a few giant corporations. FOX, and all its local stations, are owned and directed by Newscorp (Rupert Murdock), NBC,MSNBC.CNBC are all owned by General Electric, and CNN is owned by Time-Warner. Who regulates the content of the shows which are produced by these networks? How are they accountable for presenting an unbiased reporting of the news? The only source of true reporting is coming from internet sites such as this, including PUMA. I hope that PUMA is able to excercise enough influence in this country to stop the one-sided reporting of political campaigns. If it can, it will be a revolution which will shake the media giants to their core. The president should not be the media’s president, but the peoples’ president. If this can happen, Hillary Clinton would never have been treated so badly by the media and the DNC.

Maybe just a mistake and I’m overreacting. But I wrote back and said, “Senator Clinton, I would do anything for you, but I will not vote for BO”….

Re: James Roosevelt and no evidence of fraud in the caucuses. In a meeting held prior to the Rules & Bylaws meeting and broadcast on C-Span, a young women who identified herself as an Obama volunteer (strangely enough) in the Washington caucus complained about the process and said it was run by the campaigns with no impartial third party, and there was alot of phony vote counting going on. She wanted somethign done about the system. So James Roosevelt is aware of the problems even though he may not want to address them.

She and her husband made over 106 million is the past 7 years. Bill Clinton makes 100,000 per speech… He has his Library… They write books…

mayor0102-I got a donation request also, but it was from the WA State Democrats. It included a statement that they don’t have the money to fulfill their commitment to the National Democratic Party. I have noted their letter with various responses and am putting it in the mail back to them. Without any money, of course.

The fund-raising (or lack thereof) is the reason I think the DNC has lost many more members than they are willing to admit. I remember during the 06 elections how they were setting fund-raising records and beating the RNC three to one. They have lost the base who used to pay their bills and they can’t admit their mistake now.

Here is my email to the Human Rights Campaign:
With all due respect, I cannot for the life of me figure out why the Human Rights Campaign is giving Senator Obama a free pass simply because he is a Democrat. In his run for the Senate, Senator Obama got his lawyers to get a well-liked female Black incumbent off of the ballot just so he could run unopposed. In that same way, he used his money to strong arm a female presidential candidate into suspending her candidacy–a candidate the Human Rights Campaign credits with getting rid of the Federal Marriage Amendment. He has deliberately disenfranchised voters in Florida and Michigan, causing people to believe they are “half a person”. He took a blind eye to the voter intimidation and cheating at caucuses, such as the one in Texas. What ever happened to a fair election process?
Rather than endorsing Senator Obama (don’t forget the Democratic National Convention isn’t until August), the Human Rights Campaign should be demanding equal treatment along with us. Voting used to mean something in the United States of America. Help us take back the Democratic Party and return it to the voters where it belongs.

However, democratic principles are more important than any party. We are not the USSR–at least not yet. If voter intimidation is allowed to continue unchecked, that could change in a heartbeat.
You can tell me that Senator Obama supports LGBT americans (false–his voting record does not support this), supports Israel (false–see the numerous articles on http://www.americanthinker.com), supports Roe vs Wade (false–his voting record does not support this) and has a similar platform to that of Hillary Clinton. I believe that platform and actions are two totally different things. For example, some of the Republicans in California are coming to terms with the legality of same sex marriage faster than some of the Democrats.
Don’t worry about the DNC, lol. They can get money from their new younger, college kid following. I’m not worried about it.

Regarding the “Celebrate Hillary” email that mentions Lannie Davis and then talks (rather vaguely) about some news that will be imparted to us through a “conference call” — I received that message at two email addresses, but I use one of those addresses exclusively for PUMA activities only. So, there is no question that the email came through PUMA channels of some kind — if not PUMA Pac then Clinton Democrats.

I agree with you on the debt issue, Pumaindy. That’s why I placed a pay down her debt link on the PP Action Center. The link goes directly to Senator Clinton’s donation page and we know that ALL donations made to her Hillary Clinton for President campaign MUST go for that purpose and that purpose only by law – the money will not go to BO’s campaign. Call her campaign headquarters for confirmation if you are unsure of this.
To help her get out from under this debt, after she ran such a spirited and dedicated campaign for ALL of us, is the least we can do for her now. She must be able to pay off those vendors and consultants that provided services during her campaign. If not, she and her campaign will only continue to be smeared in the media and forever branded for not paying her debts to these vendors, but she’ll continue to be beholden to the BO campaign. Do we really want that? If I had not been maxed out to her primary campaign for a month now, I’d be helping her out right now. As it is, all I can do at this point is keep trying to pursuade fellow Pumas and other Patriots to keep standing with her, so she can continue to stand for all of us. She’s doing what she must for political reasons, we should be doing what we must to show our support and loyalty to her and to those causes that she and we believe in so much. This is a great way for us to show her that support and that loyalty – pay down her debt! Any amount will help. As a prior poster points out, if only 1 million people donated $10, or 50,000 people donated $20 that would pay of the portion she owes to venders. Just a reminder, that the media is spending more time talking about the Clinton’s instead of noname. As a matter-of-fact, I have even heard them talk about the fact that the Clinton’s seem to be dominating the news. Let’s see, not only is noname not getting the lead role but he is losing lots of media coverarge. It cracks me up. Carville just said President Clinton is a fighter, both of them are– let’s keep making ‘em proud. I hate watching any CNN but when I hear a Clinton supporter is on, then I want to hear what they have to say.

The MSM keeps telling us that 25% of Hillary’s supporters say they will now back McCain rather than Obama. But I would like to know what percentage will vote for someone *besides* McCain or Obama? I am an independent voter and a Hillary supporter. I will not back the Democratic nominee-select OR the Republican candidate.

I just called the “Chairman” of the DNC. I said I thought today’s debacle was a horrible sham and it was evident that Hillary and Obama were being forced to be together. That Hillary won the popular vote and we will not back down or fall in line. I told him I was a PUMA and if Hillary did not get the candidacy she deserves in August I will do everything I can to get the vote out for McCain. To those who think your comments are not read, they are. I read every post on here, I just don’t comment very much.
If you go to gretawire and see stuff from here posted there, most of the time it is me. I just use a different name since my email was apparently flagged for posting the truth about BO.
I live in small town GA, so I am far away from most of what is going on. But I write emails and send letters and make phone calls daily.
I put up fliers and hand out cards and fliers when I can. Other than that, I am a silent reader…..lol.

Throught the Primaries, we have learnt that hillary is doing everything she can to help US – the people. Yes, she may have enough $, yes Bill can help her raise $.
However, she is up there, she has the insider access that we do not have, she can still talk to party leaders. As we learnt that normally, if BO is the right decision, a poll surge would have happened. It is going down, please check CNN, daily poll of polls, BO is going down in the past 3 days. And her supporters has not stopped interests on her! If she can still raise the significant fund, or, much better than BO, then she may still make the case to the Superdelegates or delegates for them to change mind.
In this sense, her supporters should donate, like you said, if she ask, means there is a purpose for it – she is very very smart, and she is indeed doing whatever she can to help the Democrat win.

Until the vote is cast in August, it isn’t over. We just have to keep hoping we find a way to make Hillary look better as the candidate than him. Delegates can vote anyway they choose. Thank you antifish and trishfromcanada. I got really involved in the primary for the first time this year and I am 51 years old. I attended my first caucus and don’t ever want to attend another one. It was a real circus and should have never been counted. I hope they will eliminate them. I was a delagate for Hillary at the first stage to the county but then dropped out because they said I needed to vote for Obama if he was ahead and I refused to. I had already researched the candidates before it was on the media and knew he was wrong for the country. I knew politics was ugly but not this ugly until I got involved. I am with you all the way to try and change the democratic party.

c). BHO will have to make pledges to institute her policies, like Universal HealthCare and equal rights for women. He will HAVE TO make it part of his Convention PLATFORM.
That would improve her senatorial status and place her in a good position to run in 2016.

Antifish-I am in a small town so our caucus was not as bad as the larger ones but even in our town the people were pushing Obama. Most of the people voted for Hillary buy the ones running the caucus were telling us that we needed to vote for Obama if needed because we needed a democrat. I was not the only one there that said that I would vote for McCain before Obama but I think we were the minority. I had never been to a caucus before but I had to help read the instructions and show them how to calculate the number of delegates because nobody knew how. It was totally disorganized and people were leaving because they were frustrated so the vote was probably not very accurate. I can imagine how bad the bigger cities were and how inaccurate their votes were.

I work hard to tell people about B O and so far most of them agree that he is no good for this country. I just joined the puma pac so good to find others like me. 473 Texassheery – The caucus process is a joke. I live in Katy, Tx. I attended the caucus and was selected as a delegate to the state convention. But because we didn’t have enough people stay to represent Sen. Clinton. They took Obama people and counted them in Sen. Clinton’s #s. Then when we were voting on who would attend the convention. The Clinton delegates were out voted because those loaned over to Clinton’s side all voted for the Obama representatives anyway. I have never seen such a mess. Then we all had to wait for the police to show up to control the rioting. I thought I was back in the 60′s again!

I guess today was very upsetting. To see Hillary in this role today was a blow at many levels. While I understand there is lots of posturing and maneuvering going on and we can’t take this at face value; I’m still fighting tears. On top of that to have anyone think I’m suggesting she pay off Hillary’s debt instead of buying food is surreal. That put me over the top today.
I keep looking at this in terms of what we are doing exactly! Does Hillary need our money? NO! Of course not. Does she need her supporters to pay off this debt to have a prayer of pulling out a miracle in Denver? YES!! That’s the point to me. Pull off a miracle in Denver. Secondly, to prevent Obama from becoming President.
We can get the DNC’s attention by working toward an Obama loss or a Hillary victory or we can do both. If we have ANY hope of Hillary becoming our next President, then the plan has to be based on stategy not emotion. That was what I was trying to say. Perhaps my communication missed the mark

Wow! All the stories I hear about the Texas caucuses are bad. I think someone here was working on documenting voting irregularities, but I don’t remember who. I think it’s worth pursuing.
luckylady-that is why I dropped out at the county level and did not continue to the state. I did not want to get involved with the rioting. I lived in Columbus, Ohio during the 60′s and was living right in the middle of the rioting at Ohio State University. I was just a kid but I remember it well. I was afraid to leave the house and at school we were sent home early because students were being injured. I was in junior high school then.

Texassherry yes, that is too far for me to travel also, still we could be in touch. The TexasDem Primary was a nightmare. I worked hard on Hillary’s campaign, the night we voted, I could not believe how well organized the Obamatrons were, they far outnumbered us at our precinct. I was validating voters that night and a guy walked up to me in a threatening way accusing me of cheating on the Clinton votes! Such a crock, it never occurred to me, but Hmm! no -just kidding. I was so busy with that chaos that I missed out on the delegate selection, then the day of the convention I was miserably sick and couldnt go anyway even as an observer, our Chair who was a Hillary supporter told me how some shady stuff happened that day. Ill stop rattling on now – please somebody shut her up! – but will just say that I was TOTALLY enraged with the Dem party here in Texas all during this time, they were completely non supportive even though I was actually attacked by a voting official that day(March 4th)! and also they could not explain how the idiotic Texas delegate process worked!! I swear Im not an idiot but I could not understand the complexity of this insane process. anyway my anger towards the Dems just boiled over after May 31……dont really think Im going to come back now.

And is it just me or does this whole unity thing today kind of seem like it’s setting the stage for a major power trip to satisfy Obama’s reverse racism? IOW — wouldn’t it make sense to someone that hates white people to have the power over the Clinton machine and make them subservient to him? He knows he has to do it in a manner that is digestible to the public since he still needs their votes… but it still seems like an attempt to be master over the Clintons and have the power to pull at their strings.
And when in past history events (in a world where the DNC was playing fairly) when two candidates that technically have an equal chance to be the nominee — one candidate is forced to back the other before the convention and before a decision on the nominee is voted on and made official?
To me — this also falls in line with Obama’s strategy to minimize Clinton’s chances for fair consideration at the convention by making so many public appearances that declare him the next President. I could be wrong but that’s my take on what is going on here.

I know what you mean about nobody knowing what to do. I was new at this and thought I could get answers and I ended up having to read the paperwork for the ones that were leading and telling them what they had to do. It was a real joke. Something that should have been done within an hour because we are a small town ended up lasting several hours. That is why I decided to become a delegate but when they started pushing Obama on me I decided enough was enough. I was not going to represent someone that I did not support. My husband is a republican and he was finished within a few minutes and couldn’t believe that the democrats didn’t know what they were doing.

My grandparents and my husband’s immigrated here from Italy and their story can be told at the Statue of Liberty, Ilis Island.
After a 3 month boat journey, in which many died because of improper living quarters, bad health and hygiene, no food, little water, etc.; iow, they were herded together like cattle in a box car. A great many did not survive the trip. But when they got here, and in a weakened condition, they were expected to walk up to the TOP of the Statue of Liberty, and if they wobbled, faultered or fell down, they were whisked away as being unfit and set back. My husband’s grandmother along with their children were sent back while his grandfather was allowed to stay. It took him many years to be reunited with his wife and children.
So on the issue of immigration, I too make a distinction between illegal immigration and legal immigrants. The one issue that set BHO appart from Hillary was the fact that she had changed her NY position regarding drivers licences. BHO sees it as a matter of driving safety, but I see it as illegals bringing drugs and sex trade here, not to mention M13; using our social services as we pay for it; stealing our identites, social security numbers, etc… and did I mention, I’TS ILLEGAL!

If we become sure that will happen, then PUMAs can BOMBARD delegates to cast their vote on behalf of the voters in their states – and Hillary would probably win, if enough superdelegates stand by her.
I am devastated and angry about so much that has gone on this primary season, by my goal is clear – I want Hillary to be the Democratic nominee. We can say, that’s not likely, won’t happen, etc. But if we’re really 18 million who voted for her, (and there are probably millions more Republicans who would welcome a chance to vote for Hillary instead of McCain), then our focus MUST be getting Hillary that nomination. I’m not content to wait until 2012 or 2016. Our country is a mess and we need a better President, a smarter President than either McCain or Obama and I’m convinced that person is Hillary. We’re at a tipping point here. We have the numbers on our side, the media is FINALLY full of criticism on Obama. We just need leadership on this from places like The Denver Group, HireHeels and many of the other groups on Justsaynodeal such as our own Murphy to lead on this. Is anyone out there with me on this?

Cosmeta- I agree with you totally. My grandfather came from Russia and was so proud to become an American. He wouldn’t even talk about his past or speak his native language because he would always say “I am not Russian. I am an American.” He was a professional boxer and I don’t know all the details on how he became an american but I know that it was important to him and if he were alive today he would be really upset about those who came over illegally and also those who become american citizens but seem to be more proud of their native land than being american.

I have seen many comments in these blogs that make statements to the effect that they hope Hillary realizes what Obama is about or hope she realizes what he is up to. Personally, I for one, never underestimate Hillary’s intelligence to see through him. I think Hillary and Bill are always painfully aware of what Obama is about. So I have to have faith that they have figured him out and they have a plan. In the meantime, as everyone here knows, we also have a plan to not vote for Obama. And perhaps our plan is a part of Hillary’s plan. She might be counting on that fact. I’m positive she’s aware of our presence and possibly seeing first hand the fear we are instilling in others who play along with Obama. So again — I just have to have faith that we succeed in keeping Obama out of Office… and hopefully that helps Hillary in her plans as well.

I am wondering about us helping retire Hillary’s debt, and BHO getting his supporters to contribute. Supposedly they can give a max of $2300. He raised several million dollars from people contributing to him. What happens if us giving to Hillary, and HBO’s people give more than enough to retire the debt. For example, what if the combined “help” exceeds the needed amount, who gets the excess? For example, $50 million collected for her $22 million debt. Is this a way for more money, including ours, to be funneled to HBO?

Both times, we got around a dozen Senators to stand with us.
But in 2006, you spoke up during the election, helped us elect more progressive Democrats who agreed with us, and by the beginning of 2007, the Democratic caucus was united around a deadline for Iraq.
You’ll watch that happen again and again after January if we elect more progressive Democrats who can help change Washington. As you know, I didn’t get good grades in math, but I know how to count: we need more progressive Democrats and fewer Republicans.

In Minnesota, running to win Paul Wellstone’s seat, is a great progressive Democrat: Al Franken . Al’s been a fighter for progressive causes for years and he’ll be a Wellstone progressive in the Senate.
In my neighboring state of New Hampshire, former Governor Jeanne Shaheen lost a very close race in 2002 to John Sununu, a race marred by illegal voter suppression tactics by the state GOP. Some people have served time for that crime, and now it’s time for us to put things to rights and elect Jeanne to the Senate to really represent the views and values of New Hampshire. We’ll get universal health care for all kids when Jeanne comes to Washington.
In Alaska, Anchorage mayor Mark Begich is running against Ted Stevens, and the polls show Mark’s got a fantastic shot at taking this seat. Mark’s an exciting candidate, and he’s been speaking out strongly in his campaign for the Constitution and our liberties.
And in Oregon, Speaker Jeff Merkley has a great progressive record, and he’s running in a state that we kept blue in 2004. The GOP will do all they can to keep the whiff of George W. Bush out of Oregon this year, and we need to give Jeff the resources he needs to talk with Oregonians about why it’ll take a Democratic Senator to clean up the mess eight years of Bush-Cheney have created for this state.

I had time to read the posts today. I didn’t know we were taking such an anti-immigrant stance. I’m afraid that most of what you’ve learned about immigrants (and I imagine you are referring to those from Latin America and specifically from Mexico) you picked up from watching Lou Dobbs. The reality is that most of us had to wait many years to get Visas- we are not here illegally. Oh, and by the way, many people from Canada work in the U.S. without the adequate papers (thus making them illegals). According to statistics there are more Canadians working “illegally” in the U.S. than there are Mexicans. Yet, there are no plans to build a wall along the U.S-Canadian border. Contrary to popular belief I am not a drug dealer nor a criminal. Yes, I am bilingual and proud that I can speak both English and Spanish. I apologize to no one for respecting and embracing both American and Mexican culture. If your immigrant parents chose to only speak English at home that’s wonderful. We’ve made a different choice. That doesn’t make us horrible people. I’m sorry if we insult your sensibilities because we speak two languages.

Please don’t be insulted by what you read. There was a poster on here earlier that had a fit about immigration on the previous thread. I guess something Murphy wrote upset her. I told her to email Murphy. Immigration is not an issue for Puma PAC. We are about reforming the party, not making immigration policy. She just opened a can of worms and Murphy wasn’t around to respond.

Hey Texassherry, I live in Texas too, in the Panhandle, around 50 miles from Amarillo. I went to the primary but when we went back for the caucus, there was a lot of confusion and we could not get in at all. We had to go home. I know there were a lot of irregularities, and I hope somebody can prove them today.
On a note of cheer, I got an email from the head of the DC party in Amarillo asking how many yard signs I would like for Nobama.. I sent back a replay asking…”How many do you want burned?”… hmmm, bet I won’t get any.. what’cha think? LOL

I’ve noticed that too and have concluded the following:
- He is not using his sanna or tanning creams to appear, (pardon my expression) more white in an attempt to win over more white voters.
- He can’t take the pressure
- He needs another trip to the Virgin Islands, but can’t afford to do it now. Did you notice during the primaries that whenever under stress he needed time off. Yet another reason I can’t vote for him. He tries to HIDE too much.
- He’s not using anymore, or maybe he is. But whatever he uses, he is on a downslide. Personally, I have never met a cocaine user yet who can tell you the truth. And most will swear up and down that they don’t use drugs. They are not to be trusted.
- Personally I either think he suffers from either drug use whether past of present, or is Bi-Polar; and that makes his Presidency VERY scary to me becasue bi-polars are big spenders. I see signs of multiple personality disorder in him. That and he’s an ego-centric arrogant egotist and possible narcisstic. He thrives on a crowd but is an empty shell when not in the lime light. I therefore believe that he can’t work alone… and a President spends lots of time in that oval office.
Maybe he can call Hillary up on the telephone to help him out of a jam. LOL

He has a makeup artist that changes his skin color for different appearances dependent on what audience he is trying to reach. Some of you will quickly dismiss(and diss) this post as “old news” the same way as Roe v Wade concerns are dismissed. You wouldn’t dismiss it if it came from BO. If BO’s website talked about a 24-year long commitment to overthrowing Roe v Wade, we’d be up in arms. But from McCain, it’s okay because, “it’ll never happen” There is a pattern of ugly sexism that comes from John McCain and I simply cannot understand why we have placed a seal-of-approval on his behavior. Maybe THIS is why the DNC people I’ve met with are so dismissive of this movement – they DO read the blog and actually question if some of us were EVER Democrats! Oh, and let’s not forget his potty mouth. True, he didn’t direct the “c” word and “trollop” at Hillary in 1992 — no, those choice nuggets were saved for his wife. Not even the one he dumped for the trophy bride, no, he used those words to refer to his TROPHY bride.
And today, my own card-carrying Republican McCain-supporting-aunt (who lives in Las Vegas) called to tell me that McCain made a joke to the newspaper in that city about beating his wife. My Aunt – one of the most loyal and supportive McCain supporters on the planet, has finally come realize that her hero is actually a mean-spirited misogynist. She’s a lifetime Republican who has pulled her support from McCain today.
I think John McCain is a fine choice for Republican presidential nominee. He’s their choice and I have no right to begrudge them the their choice; I didn’t vote in their primary, I voted in the Democratic primary. But for pete’s sake, I simply cannot get over the irony of Hillary Democrats – feminists even!! voting for a man who besmirched Hillary’s own beloved daughter!
BO’s campaign may have been guilty of sexism or foul campaign tactics, but he has not smeared Chelsea, called Hillary a bitch (at least publically), used the C word to describe his wife or joked about wife beating. It is no wonder that HRC is urging us to support BO – why would she EVER ask us to support the man who disparaged her own daughter? Sure he apologized, big whoop. I’m sorry PUMAs, John McCain is not worthy of a protest vote. In addition to disaffected Democrats, there are a lot of Republican PUMAs here and I don’t wish to offend, but I just can’t wrap my arms around the idea of DEMOCRATS casting even a protest vote for a man who would demean my hero AND her daughter – and call it a joke. I’ve read many of the posts but confess not all since there’s so little time, but it’s been my experience so far that everyone here has an open mind and the only idea we oppose is the idea of Obama as President. I’m sure there’s a possible misunderstanding. I personally feel the government is wasting their time to demonize immigration. There are way more important issues to focus on and trying to hurt people for merely wanting to be in this country should never be at the top of the list of problems. I consider it more of a blessing that so many want to be here.

What you mention in your message it’s true. I am from CA and I was at El Paso as a volunteer for the elections, and exactly the same thing happen there. The people was so frustrated that finally decided to go home.

I’m going to stay out of that argument for the time being, because I do need to get some real work done tonight. However, I will say this: Having recently watched DVDs of the old “Daniel Boone” TV series, I sometimes look at the immigration issue through the filter of history.
Many of us are here now because our ancestors came to the United States at a time when the American Indians had no laws to protect their borders and had little ability to keep our ancestors from taking their land and consuming their resources. Few of our ancestors learned to speak their language; rather, they had to learn ours.
Our ancestors came to this land to seek a better life for themselves and their families. Yet somehow we find it objectionable for others to now do what our ancestors did not so very long ago.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not always so noble myself. I have my own prejudices and concerns about immigration. But I hope I can be reasonable in discussing the issues, taking into consideration how I would feel if I were trying to make a better life for myself in a new country.

It’s just that when I look at the big picture, there’s so much more about Obama that I dislike and distrust. Once again, I’m voting for what I consider to be the lesser of two evils. It’s not okay for him either… same way it was not okay for the media… and believe me I’ve seen it all, from comedian Bill Myers calling Hillary the “c” word to Brit Hume of FoxNews showing a bare brested revealing cartoon with Hillary’s face dubbed in.
I can’t answer for those here, but for me… it’s kind of like looking at an axis of evil and having to make a choice of the lesser evil.
As for BHO I for one got very offended by his bloggers. I still dont know if they were paid bloggers or not, but they were certainly rude and oftentimes vile. It was one thing to call Hillary the “b” word or the “c” word, but when I would try to talk issues the response back that I got was that I must be a “b” and “c” too. So for me… the hostility I feel against BHO is a little bit more PERSONAL.
If Hillary wanted to fight the sexism she could have done it, but CHOSE not to. And so, she’s not the one who is angry over her mistreatment—WE ARE!

And actually — I’ve witnessed nothing but mutual respect between Senator Clinton and Senator McCain. They might not agree on issues — but I do believe that both have a history of making the genuine attempt to work across party lines to get things accomplished. I personally do not agree with McCain on a lot of issues either but I feel he does have the character to genuinely consider what is best for the country. There is a level of corruption with Obama that is undeniable. I find it very easy to make McCain my second choice. Obama is not even a choice for me.

For those that don’t know me, I work in the Senate, for the Democratic Caucus (not to be confused with the DNC!) but I am not blindly loyal to anyone (except maybe Hillary). That said, I hold feminist principals dear to my heart and would not support even a Democrat who said the things McCain has said. I’m not blind to the party, but I am uber-sensitive to the power of words. And those words used by McCain are just too much. I can’t speak for anyone else, and I myself didn’t hear McCain make sexist remarks. (I don’t hear everything the candidates say.) But I give EVERY candidate a little bit of leeway (even Obama).
If I didn’t give EVERY candidate a little bit of leeway, I’d be criticizing Hillary for her Bosnia sniper fire story and her unfortunate choice of words when she brought up RFK’s assassination.
I need to look at the big picture. For me, Obama’s 20-year association with Trinity Church, embracing the hateful, poisonous teachings of Reverend Wright is non-negotiable. So is his dismissive nature, which seems to pervade everything he does.
Obama’s stated policies are closer to my own beliefs than are McCain’s. But I don’t believe that Obama is a man of his word. So I can’t trust his stated policies.

Obama did call Hillary names “Annie Oakley” brushed her off his shoulder gesture and others that you seem to have overlooked. On top of it he insulted all the typical and bitter Americans while he threw them under the bus. His supporters bashed Hillary supporters and they want us to mend the fences?? I say, no deal.
John McCain didn’t appropriate Hillary’s delegates, Obama and the DNC rules committee did that.
It is the measure of the man that counts. Obama just doesn’t measure up and his talk is cheap.

It’s not about giving McCain a free pass, its about not giving one to Obama.
McCain will try to cut government spending. I think that’s good. Hillary was fiscally responsible too. I think Obama is agenda driven and has no fiscal control, it seems he wants to go on a mindless, neverending, shopping spree with our credit cards. Not McCain.
As democrats we determined during the Keating 5 that John McCain is honest, something that Obama isn’t. I will enjoy voting for McCain making Obama fetch like a dog for two votes to cancel out my one vote for McCain.
It’s about justice. As a POW McCain didn’t take a free pass, and that is something I do respect. McCains seems to be taken out of context alot, and is friends with Hillary and has more respect for Hillary than Obama does. I will give him the benefit of the doubt before Nobama.
Yet, I have no doubt about Obama, I don’t drink his kool-aide…why don’t you just relax with a PUMA margarita and think about whether the DNC was fair or not. I think not. I think we have a right to expect accountability.
Otherwise, I’m one PUMA that will use my vote to elect John McCain, because America counts, votes should count, and I refuse to allow the media, DNC rules committee, or anyone else influence my vote or select the president of the U.S. for me. That’s called a dictatorship.

I gotta say that one of the things that haunted me the most about the speeches today at Unity was how Obama had to make a point of how Hillary is managing to accomplish what she’s done in heels. Then he makes the joke of how he doesn’t know how she manages in heels. To me — he’s still trying to subtly interject sexism. Why would he go there? Then he makes the comment that she’s managed to brush off so many difficulties during the campaigning and he makes a reference to his brush of the shoulders motion. I guess he feels it’s ok to do this in the context of pretending to compliment Clinton. But I think it was also intended as a subtle dig and reminder of his use of this gesture as a means to be disrespectful to her. In other words, just some personal observations of today’s events and possible disrespect at the hands of Obama (when Clinton made every effort to be respectful).
I’m new here, so I’m a bit confused at some who say they’ll write in HRC, or sit out the election if BHO is the nominee.
Wouldn’t anything short of an actual vote for McCain still essentially end up being a vote for BHO?
Sure we know who the best candidate REALLY is, but don’t we have to be wise and practical as well…. I can’t stand the thought of making a symbolic gesture that would actually help BHO into office….ghastly thought!

Let me put it this way then: I am somewhat dismissive of McCain to use BHO’s terminology because he kind of reminds me of an uncle of mine… he just says things.
And for McCain, I am a little bit *more* forgiving when I take into consideration the generation to which he comes from. By comparison, BHO is much younger and should know better… whereas McCain really needs a coach.
McCain comes from a generation when fruedian slips like that are dismissed, because in his era, “boys will be boys” and it was deemed okay. And even though it is not, when we factor in his age… I for one can forgive him. Still, it would have been nice to see an apology… and YES from BOTH candidates; but moreso from BHO if he ever intends to win back Hillary supporters.
If BHO can call off every little attack against him, or say things like…. you know they will say you should fear me… if he says he is *new* school and wants to do away with the “silliness” of it all…then he ought to admit a wrong and make a PUBLIC APOLOGY both to Hillary and to us!

Earlier this year, I listened to a few Republican debates, even though I wasn’t inclined to vote Republican. But I wanted to give everyone a fair listen. Frankly, I didn’t like any of the candidates, least of all McCain. So I’m certainly not a fan of his.
Conversely, I was suitable impressed with Obama when I first began watching debates. Once upon a time, I even believed that if Hillary asked us to vote for him, I would follow her lead. But then the Reverend Wright story broke, and I began feeling differently.
What really pushed me over the edge, however, is seeing how dismissive Obama is. When he refused to do additional debates with Hillary, even though voters still wanted more debates, it was dismissive of both Hillary and voters nationwide.
When Obama refused to insist that votes in Florida and Michigan be counted in full, it was dismissive not only of voters in those two states, but of voters everywhere.
When Obama refused to accompany John McCain to Iraq to see conditions first-hand, that was dismissive. (By the way, I’m saying that as someone who was always against the war and would like to see us out of Iraq as soon as possible. Were I in Obama’s position, I would absolutely take John McCain up on the offer, because I recognize the need to better educate myself on the problem.)
Obama’s refusal to agree to weekly town hall meetings with John McCain now is dismissive. How many times during the primary season did he say, “I welcome that debate with John McCain.” So why won’t he debate McCain now? To me, it says he’s not a man of his word.
How many times has Obama insisted that he’s bipartisan and will reach across the aisle? So why won’t he reach across his campaign platform now to share the stage with McCain? To me, it says he’s not so bipartisan. To me, it says that he won’t work well with Congress if he becomes President.
I thought back to my feelings about George Bush before he became President. He was dismissive like that. The moment I saw the similarity between Bush and Obama, my mind was made up. I knew we can’t elect Obama, regardless of his stated policies.
My gut tells me that if Obama were to become President, he would be dismissive of everyone and everything that doesn’t serve his immediate needs. Think, my friend, of all the things that are important to you now. Do you really want a President who ignores your concerns because your concerns aren’t high on his priority list? I don’t.
I do respect your views, however. And I thank you for being willing to have a substantive discussion, especially when not everyone on this site welcomes your point of view.
My dryer caught on fire so I had to head out to the public laundry and clean up the mess and what a mess it was, good thing I was home when it happened. But regarding my earlier post….”stitch and bitch” is a knitting or crocheting group or craft group sort of like the old time quilting bees. You go to various friends houses and sit around and knit and talk. You can also drink wine and beer which leads to really bad knitting but very interesting conversations. Generally it’s all females in the group but we have a couple of men who sometimes come, they are guys who can deal with female oriented conversation.
I still say that due to accurate cheap paternity tests abortion rights will not be going away soon. You know typically abortion rights are thought of as women’s rights however all children have fathers. Abortion rights are simply reproductive rights and if women lose them so do men.

I’ve just finished a long workday… started by teaching art all morning to priveledged kids in an upscale liberal urban area. The kids are great, the parents mean well… and are for O in the majority (according to our questionable caucus)… I even had a parent today express that once O wins he’ll address the funding issues for gifted kids in public schools (and my kid is a low income high achiever so it’s not like I’m not for more funding)… These are kids who won’t be sent to the local middle school as it is “too diverse”… i.e. because the local affluent families opt to send their kids to private school starting in 6th grade because the local school is too “diverse” i.e. multi-racial (k-5 at the local elementary school is cheap and ok but by middle school they need to be “on the right track”) so many parents of kids from struggling schools in poorer parts of our city w/ underperforming schools choose to send their kids to our schools in the safer neighborhood because there is room since so many neighborhood kids go private ( at $8,000 – $20,000/yr.) that there is lots of room… These very priviledged parents of very priviledged children in a very affluent part of our city will opt out of public schools because they are too “diverse” when it starts to matter… And yet they will vote for “O”in the name of NIMBY unity.
I understand the impulse to give your child the best education you can and I believe that means more than economic advantage and exposure and yet they opt out of public school when it truly finally becomes unified and integrated in middle school because it is too “diverse”… ? And they overwhelminly support “O”???? (And I’m totally a divide myself on this one…I’m low income w/ a white high-achiever low-income child and my sibling is a high-income in a “struggling” school-district parent w/ an african-american adopted child who is not a high achiever child…) I tend to think they should just go to grade school and that’s that…done, experienced, onward and upward,,, we’re just getting started in this ‘ol world. But in my affluent neighborhood that is not the case.
The remaining 8 hours of my day were spent working in a dept. store with a wide array of people (many traditional “blue collar”union workers, and many immigrants from Africa) … I happen to work for a vendor and not be in a union myself but the major store’s workforce is a union operation… And the state of the economy is having a major impact on their lives as the retail industry is being hit hard and hours are being cut and they are traditional Dems and from what I’m hearing many are Hillary supporters who are now feeling betrayed and lost… they are feeling an immediate impact from the downturn in the economy; now, not later… and they seem to be falling through the cracks once again…
I’m glad that the PUMA message is starting to get out into the MSM… I’ve been doing my small part… but am so grateful that this is starting to get more MSM time. There is a desire for this knowlege out there and the more it can be disseminated the better!

You make a good point about accomplishments.
I saw an episode of “American Morning” one day in which both Hillary and Obama were asked about accomplishments that qualified them to be President. Hillary began rattling off all kinds of things I no longer remember. But I remember Obama’s response quite distinctly. He replied by chastising her vote on Iraq. He went on so long about that, the moderator had to interrupt him and repeat the question. Even then, he still didn’t name anything he had done.
That was another turning point for me. One, Obama couldn’t name any of his accomplishments. Two, he somehow felt that trash-talking Hillary made him qualified to be President. I don’t think so.
Plus that just wasn’t an issue that swayed me. Yes, I wish Hillary had voted differently. But would it have made any difference? Bush was determined to go to war no matter what.
On the other hand, Obama gave a speech. Big flipping deal. If he had done something to prevent the war, I would have been impressed. But he was impotent when our nation needed leaders to step forward and offer more than “just words.”

Actually, I don’t really give him a pass. Yes, I 100% agree that those are horrible things to have done, if true. And actually, you are not the first person that has brought these things to my attention.
So I don’t give McCain a free pass. But I will vote for him if Hillary is not the nominee.
If I tried to list every rational reason that I don’t like him, this post would fill many screens. So I won’t go there. Others have already done this. Firebelle PUMA in particular is very eloquent in her posts and in her letters and I agree with nearly all of her logic and reasoning.
Others have said that it is a choice between the lesser of two evils and this is also the case for me. I have watched the Dem primary season in horror. I have come to have such a strong aversion to BO that I went from pressing mute whenever he spoke to swearing off all televised news coverage. I cannot even stand to look at him.
I cannot possibly explain my deep negative reaction to him; it comes from the pit of my stomach. For me seeing him or hearing him is like letting evil into my life and into my home. That I wouldn’t do everything in my power to help defeat him would be for me to let evil into my life, my home, and our country.
So while there are 1000′s of rational reasons that range from inexperience to racism to a flawed character, for me there is one final consideration and that is this: every fiber of my being screams out to me “this person is evil; this person is already destroying our country; do everything possible to deny this person control over our country and my life”.
My feelings cannot be debated rationally. But they do guide me in the decision I have made for myself.
That said, I respect the decision that you have made for yourself.

I tried to separate out those feelings in responding to headoverhills so that I might be as fair as possible. But I can’t deny having a strong emotional response.

The My post was specific to the words used by McCain today and in the past, when referencing women or his wife, or our candidate. Lemme tell you, the “heels” comment really rubbed me the wrong way today. But I’ve been on this site long enough to see the kind of vitriol generated when BO says anything like that (or even when he sits on a chair!) I wonder where the vitriol is when McCain makes a joke about wife beating? This blog has changed since the early day – we’ve grown to include much more than the disaffected Hillary Democrats looking for a place to go after HRC.com changed. We’ve grown up over these past few weeks – evolved really, and embrace Hillary Democrats, Hillary Republicans and McCain Democrats and McCain Republicans. That’s a GOOD thing. I often would have such a visceral reaction of just being “wronged” My body screamed this is wrong and never before have I been moved to do anything politically. Before I only knew of the word “movement” on an intellectual basis and now I know it viscerally. It is something that makes you act, almost as if it is beyond your control.

My reaction to BO is the same as yours. I had to keep the remote close at hand while watching TV so I could mute and change channels fast, the minute he appeared on TV. He makes my stomach turn. I don’t trust anything about him. Time has proven my gut’s reaction to be justified. With every passing day the reasons I cannot abide him grow, every suspicion I’ve had has been confirmed, over and over again.

McCain may not always “talk the talk,” but he “walks the walk.” BO, on the other hand, may appear to “talk the talk,” but he does not “walk the walk.”
I trust McCain to be inherently a fair and decent man, though he may be rough around the edges at times. BO, on the other hand, changes his tune to suit the situation and does so only if it serves his interests. Just what his interests are has yet to be fully revealed. It’s astounding that he has gotten as far as he has, an incredibly frightening development in the shadiest of shady politics, brought to us compliments of the (anti-)Democratic Party.

Most people here are Dems. I happen to be Indy but have always voted Dem.
I believe that we are just doing the analysis about how to (1) get Hillary the nomination or (2) prevent BO from winning in Nov.
Quite honestly, there is no way that a third party candidate has a chance. Alot of people will vote third party or stay home or write in Hillary if that is a viable option in their state. These are quite effective strategies but they are not the most aggressive strategies.
For those of us who feel compelled to consider an aggressive strategy, the only option is to vote for McCain. For myself, I will rest easy over this decision for the reasons I stated above. And in the end, I do believe that for all of his faults, McCain really does love this country. He has sacrificed much and continues to do so. He has sons in the military, so IMHO, he is still sacrificing for this country.
For now in this election season, that is enough for me. Beyond that, I don’t care so much to discuss McCain’s faults because they don’t affect the decision I have made for myself. Having said that, I am glad that you point them out for my consideration. I like to be informed.
Does anyone here watch Stephen Colbert? As I was thinking about the importance of trusting your gut, I got a little chuckle remembering a sketch he did on gut-trust. good for an early morning giggle.

My take is this was for show, had to be done. I would like a body language expert to weigh in on the charade. It sounds like some signals were being given from both H & O. Interesting.
My other big thought is this. Putting Hillary out there on the same stage as O may just backfire on the big “unity” plan. The more people see them together, the more people have a chance to really compare them. We ALL know who will come out the winner in those comparisons! A silver lining, perhaps? Hillary will outshine him every time. Maybe this is just what we need to happen to make people wake up!?! I sure hope so.

I have another friend who is into politics to the extreme and she has the same reaction to Bush as you do.
I have had discussions with her about this and I sometimes wonder if he is not just the precursor to BO.
It’s almost like we are getting a second chance to do the right thing here. I don’t want to blow it.
The heels comment was first made by Ann Richards (former Gov. of Texas and since deceased) at the 2000 or 2004 convention.In describing what women had to go through she contrasted Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, saying, “Ginger did everything Fred did on the dance floor, except she did it in backwards and in high heels.”
So, Bo appropriated another great speech moment by taking Ann Richards’s words which were quoted and quoted and became a part of the popular culture and trying to capitalize on them as though he in ANY way has a right to!

I would really love to see some townhall debates between Obama and McCain also. But I think Obama can only handle a friendly (adoring is probably more appropriate word) audience and probably doesn’t want to be upstaged by an “senile, ornery, old man,” as BO and surrogates are trying to define McCain. The bloom will surely be off the rose when the two of them are seen side by side. I can picture it in my mind and Obama will really look stupid.

There has been much discussion about Hillary’s debt on this thread. Keep reading and then make your own decision about this.
Personally, I feel compelled to help pay it down. Hillary has explicitly asked her supporters to do this for her. I believe that there is a reason for this so that is my primary focus for now. I am hoping that clearing her debt will allow her to move her agenda forward. She clearly has strategies and goals that are unknown to us.
Others feel strongly that their priority is to donate to PUMA PAC – also an extremely important strategy. This is critical to move PUMA PAC action items forward.
Once I know that Hillary’s debt is taken care of I will make PUMA PAC donations as my finances allow.
I believe that together we will prevail.

I gave money to Hillary too, because I felt compelled to contribute to the cause.
But lately, I’ve been bothered by the obscene amounts of money spent on the primaries when we have so many other causes that need money. Can you imagine how much good we could have done had all that money instead gone to disaster relief, healthcare, or any of the other causes the candidates champion.
So last month, instead of donating to Hillary, I gave $100 to the Red Cross in Hillary’s name. With all the disasters happening around the world, I felt better about that.

One of Hillary’s national delegates has asked people to spread the word that her delegates will walk out of the Convention if she doesn’t get a roll call vote.
They want to put pressure on the DNC to ensure that Hillary does get the roll call vote she deserves, hence the request to spread the word about a walk out if she does not.

Good morning everyone! You little PUMAs have been very busy overnight! I was watching Ed Rendell on Fox last night. He is my Governor and I was so impressed with him during the primaries–he supported Hillary staunchly. I know he, like her, has to tow the party line. He even said “I drank the Kool Aid”! Anyway this made me think that maybe now is another time to have a new letter writing campaign to the superdelegates who supported Hillary saying that although we respect their allegiance to the party and the Democratic candidate we want them to know that we will not vote for Senator Obama. Then we can just state why. Perhaps a standard letter can be drafted for all PUMA’s and placed on the ACTION center. What do you all think? I received the E-mail from Hillary also. I thanked her for all that she has done for our country and that she will always have my full support. But as far a Obama is concerned, I will not donate or support his quest for the Presidency. He will never get my vote.
Did anyone hear Christie Atkins on talk radio last night? Can’t remember who the commentator was but it was WROW 590 in NY. She was doing great until a male caller came on and really ticked her off. She called Obama a Coke sniffing, Fist bumping something or other and a whole bunch of people started to call in responding to that comment. Not defending O by any means, but I am not sure that it is good for our cause to take that approach. I think we have to stick to our issues and not get into personal attacks. That is what his supporters do. What do you guy’s think?

There’s a seething deep sense of anger against the DNC, that is coming from independent voters and registered democrats. Majority of people I’ve talked to, complete strangers who approached because of my PUMA t-shirt said the same thing; ” Obama cannot be trusted to keep our country secure.” The media and spinmeisters can put their own spin, but the real pulse of the people outside of their realm is the exact opposite; ordinary American voters are not enthused to vote for democrat this year. Who is to blame? The DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE when they’ve SUBVERTED the will of the people; when they SELECTED NOBAMA it made our votes INVALID, that they, the DNC can do anything they will.
I will ONLY cast my votes to democrats who put their support behind Hillary, the rest I will vote them out of office.
YES! This November I will vote for Senator John McCain, for the FIRST time in my life I’d be voting Republican. A vote for McCain is a SAFE VOTE for our country, with McCain, I KNOW what I am getting into. If you gamble, you want the odds in YOUR FAVOR not AGAINST you.
