Hi PUMAs-I haven’t logged on much today because, in addition to trying to get a few things done around my house I have also been doing some research. It dawned on me that all federal employees are subject to a Code of Conduct. Usually this Code of Conduct includes provisions for association with disreputable people, doing behaviors that reflect poorly on the agency or bureau, etc. I found this website

So, I am going to find the section of the Code of Conduct for U.S. Senators that covers *61’s financial dealings with Rezko, his association with Rev. Wright, etc. and then start to work on getting that violation of the Code of Conduct publicized. Every single federal employee is held to a standard (the Code of Conduct). *61 is a U.S. Senator, ergo he is a federal employee and I am his employer. Now I just need to find the documentation to fire his sorry…well, you get the picture.

Interesting, but I don’t know how much success you’ll have. It amazes me that he is a sitting Senator. My local sheriff’s department rejected one of my friends who had completely qualified in all areas to be a deputy pending a polygraph examination. She already had an academy date and everything. When, during the polygraph, she admitted to having used cocaine, ten years prior, they disqualified her.
Why do we have such stringent rules at the local level, yet a US Senator can admit to the same and run for president? I don’t get it.

Going down the freeway an ambulance went flying by and when it got 200 to 300 feet ahead of us a side panel compartment door on the ambulance flew open and a small cooler (ice chest) fell out. The ambulance kept right on going!
I pulled over and my friend got out and retrieved the cooler and when she got back in the car she opened it.

I hope I don’t offend anyone, but I took the name antifish as a protest against the little fish magnets that many Christians put on the backs of their cars. I live in the Bible-belt and there are gazillions of them. I wouldn’t have a problem with them, but for three years, I had a job which required me to drive around from house to house all over the metro Atlanta area. I began to notice that the most rude and intolerant drivers were the ones with the little fishes on their cars. Over time, I grew to despise them. That’s my story. Good evening everyone, I just now got a chance to log on, had to work today, then just normal stuff to do before I can sit down again.
Something did come up today that I wanted to ask about. An aquaintance of mine, an Obama supporter who seems to be loosing faith in him had pledged 10$ a week automatically. Now her hours have been cut back at her job and she needs the money. She said she has tried calling and emailing to have the donation stopped. No luck. Intresting huh. Maybe one reason he has no problem with financing. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the political parties were required by law to return donations. I don’t know about you all but I keep coming across bits and pieces of intresting info that I wonder if we could ever use. Like the above, and like a while ago in a speach, or comment Obama said something like we did not need to worry about countries like Iran and Venezula, they were too small. Tonight I hear on TV that the US’s war on drugs has helped eradicated 27% (I thinK) of the fied of cocoa for cocaine but reduced the amount of drugs coming from Venezula only 2%. Maybe we could put information like this on the flyers page and do a double sided flyer. Just ideas. What do you all think

I’d file complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the Federal Trade Commission, and any state or federal agency I can think of. I’d send copies of the emails as proof that I had tried to resolve it on my own. That brings greater visibility to the bad-faith conduct and may help other folks in the future.

i’ve been gone all day and just checked in. i’m excited because i went to dinner with a friend tonight and was explaining pumapac and i was telling her that i was trying to figure out a good place to hand out flyers to get the most impact. she said you know, my boss at work is a huge hillary supporter. she said there is no way she will ever vote for BO. she said why don’t you give me those flyers and i’ll pass them out at work and i’ll put them in the mailroom. she works for one of the major companies in st. louis so i’m really excited that alot of people are going to get these flyers!

If the question is whether Hillary Clinton was hobbled by sexism in the media in her failed quest for the Democratic presidential nomination, the answer probably has to be too hard to tell, absent the documentation of detailed and comprehensive examples.
My impression, based on a goodly but obviously not total sampling of print, cable and network TV coverage, is that she was unfairly attacked.
The bugaboo of gender bias is largely being pinned on what transpired on certain cable programming, and my experience supports that analysis. It was not practiced only by spouting media commentators, but by her political opponents as well.
In part, whether Clinton was the object of discrimination rests on the perspective one brings to the question. Many women, and particularly her supporters, regard the Democratic Party’s rejection of her as dashing their hopes for finally overcoming the barrier against a female president. Her opponents consider charges that she was victimized as little more than Clintonesque gamesmanship to advance her claims to the nomination based on her sense of entitlement.
Media sexism became apparent to me the night of the New Hampshire primary listening to Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann on MSNBC repeatedly subject Clinton to insinuative commentary, partly based on her poor showing in the Iowa caucuses and public opinion polls that suggested another loss was in store. As the night evolved, Clinton began to lead in the vote count and maintain it, to the transparent discomfiture of the commentators.
So much so that bloggers began to flood MSNBC with charges that it was the commentators’ very sexism that had energized especially women to turn out in the New Yorker’s behalf. Tom Brokaw, who was appearing that night with Matthews and Olbermann, finally took it upon himself to criticize the media for getting it wrong, specifically including his NBC-affiliated colleagues.
As for the pencil press, there were to my mind many examples of holding Clinton to standards that were not applied equally to her opponents. Where she was held to account for being vicious in her personal attacks, a man would have been tacitly admired for waging a vigorous campaign.
Her ambitiousness tended to be viewed negatively. In a man, it would be seen as reflecting admirable commitment.
There is nothing wrong and much right with skepticism and tough questioning directed at Clinton. As a candidate, she had it coming. What was striking and possibly sexist was the contrast with how Obama was treated. He was not facing anywhere near the kind of scrutiny to which Clinton was subjected. (And would not even begin to be until his former pastor made headlines for his racist pulpit rhetoric).
In the telecast debates, dichotomy in the questioning became so obvious that “Saturday Night Live” had a ball satirizing how Clinton was harassed while Obama was pampered.
Also, the other presidential aspirants were not free of sexist posturing. John Edwards was the first to comment on Clinton’s attire at one debate. While she was still the presumed front-runner, she naturally came under sustained attack from all the others who were lagging. That’s politics as usual.
When she began to take them on directly and to a degree personally, Edwards complained she was unfairly attacking them. Apparently, he forgot that responding in kind and then some is just normal politics as well. Or was he implying a woman was not entitled to the same defenses indulged in a man?
Complicating assessment to what extent sexism was involved is the fact that Obama was the first black to have a plausible shot at a presidential nomination, triumphing in his success over long-entrenched prejudices. His victory is as historic as having a female candidate.
Perhaps some of the media’s gentler treatment of him was not so much partiality as it was deflection of possible charges of racism, which has rightly become a third rail in American culture and politics, and which was invoked opportunely by Obama backers.
In the end, whatever sexism infused the campaign, Obama won because he fielded by far the better political organization, deployed superior tactics and outraised and outspent Clinton, garnering huge sums on the Internet from small contributors.
That leaves unanswered how much sexism cost Clinton in her narrow loss to how much racism figured for Obama.

I’ve already decided that my motivation is to get my thesis done before election day because I am listing Hillary in my acknowledgements page under my advisor and other people who have helped me and I’m going to say “I thank the following people for their guidance, direct assistance, or sheer inspiration in the completion of this thesis” and I’m listing her in the list of people. Im from TN. I traveled for the first time ever for a campaign, was the county wide GOTV coordinator for marion county, NC and then went up to KY for a weekend.
Yeah and according to research I did tonight, while people want to think that Obama has 10s of millions more than McCain, he actually only has 11 million more than McCain and the RNC has 10 times the amount of the DNC. So, Obama is actually overall down against the Repubs, but of course no one is talking about that.
McCain had cash on hand at the end of May: 31.6 million and No-bama has 43.1 million. That’s a difference of 11 million. Haha, when you’re already buying TV time like the arrogant jerk that he is, that will go pretty fast.

Sometimes it bothered me to hear the pundits criticize Hillary on fundraising and debt issues, especially when they tried to suggest it was a reflection of her fiscal responsibility. How I resolved it in my mind is like this …
1. Hillary did more with less. If you consider the ratio of votes received to dollars spent, Hillary was far more effective than Obama. The same applies if you consider the ratio of votes received to attendance at rallies.
2. Following that same train of thought, Obama was quite reckless in his spending. It shows how wasteful he would be as President.
3. It’s pretty shameful how much EVERY candidate was spending on the primaries when we have so many problems in our country today. Imagine if that money were put to disaster recovery, crime prevention, healthcare, etc. Granted, you can’t run a campaign without money, so I can’t be too critical. But I can say that the more one spent, the more shameful it was. Go, Obama, go.
4. People in any business need to invest cash. I do it myself as a business owner. Sometimes I have to incur debt to produce the products I sell. Hillary, in essence, invested her own cash and cash contributed by others to get her “business venture” off the ground. The fact that she incurred debt is normal and not reflective of her ability to run the country. Had she not been up against so many obstacles, the outcome would have been different.
Feel free to lay these arguments on your friend next time he or she tries to bait you.

I agree with you and many people that it is absolutely obscene the amount of money that was spent in the campaign.
You make good arguments regarding Hillary’s finances.
I also was looking through the data and noticed that 49% of the contributors to Hillary were women (according to opensecrets.org) whereas 41% of contributors to Obama were women. Given that women do in general make less than men and given the huge economic disparities in general between the bases of the two candidates, I think Hillary’s ability to raise the kind of money she needed spoke extremely well to her ability to connect with voters and get them to financially back her as a candidate even when she was already be counted out.

When I was in my Sophomore year in College (1998) I took a Political Science class and we spent a little bit of time talking about how good it would be if Presidential candidates were allowed to spend only certain amount of money for election. The only problem with that is the fact that prices are going up and that could make it less effective.
My thesis is on water quality. Actually, it is looking at Phosphorus in water. I will be analyzing stream sediments near a waste water treatment plant and stream sediments adjacent to an animal ag farm

The state always blames farmers for high levels of nutrients in water. But, as our lands become increasingly used for suburban households, the wastewater treatment plants, I hypothesize, are becoming greater contributors of nutrients than the farms. I think there’s a lot of interesting research that could and should come out of this campaign. That is one piece.
I heard Obamite, Jamal Williams (I think is his name) refer to Michigan and Florida votes as like voting for American Idol. I would actually like to see some research done into how our superficial voting in the U.S. for things like American Idol, dancing with the stars, and all the other stuff that we vote on that means nothing actually is impacting our democracy. I believe that it is. I believe that increasingly, we will see candidates who have the Hollywood flash to appeal to the superficial voter without any substance. Furthermore, I would like to see a study on how say a 20 year old is motivated to vote multiple times for a contest that means nothing but could care less about an election. I fear for our future democracy as fewer and fewer voters participate thereby giving greater voting power to fewer people.

I would love to write some serious research with an anti-Obama slant (see I’m already a flawed scientist but you have to have an objective to every piece of research or it doesn’t get funded).

Perhaps you should invite that “strong talk” from your professor, then report her to the administration. Admin will put a gag order on all professors faster than Obama can schedule another fundraiser. But Admin can’t gag the students.
I actually have a very open relationship with my professors and they have been very supportive of my vocal political stances. So, it would be like stabbing her in the back, I really don’t want to do that.
I’m a very open person and invite people to be open with me because I love conversation and it is totally totally wrong for me to do it with undergraduates so I seek refuge with professors.

I have several friends who are leaning toward Obama for different reasons. I accept that their reasons are valid for them. Sometimes I even agree that Obama might be better on certain issues than McCain would be. Truthfully, Obama’s stated policies are closer to my beliefs than McCain’s are. But I don’t like Obama’s character. He scares me.
Bottom line, my friends are more important to me than are Hillary, Obama, or this election. My one vote ain’t gonna matter that much. Respecting my friends matters a whole lot.

BTW, I’m sure you’ve all given since “suspension day” but today I made a point of giving 36 dollars so that I would go over 200 dollars in total for the year to her campaign. So, now I will be listed on the FEC report. I’m very very proud of that and will honestly print it out when it becomes available in a few months and frame it. So, I would encourage you, if you can, to donate to at least a total of 201 so you too can be (according to the FEC) an official donor to Hillary Clinton.

I jumped my ship. I spent almost 3 years studying Audiology–hearing. I was trying to get into the program. I would have become a doctor. But found my bigger passion–politics. I was dreaming of getting involved in politics since I was 8 or 9 years old, and Hillary motivated me to go after this dream.

Media sexism–does anyone remember this segment from Morning Joe? It was a couple months ago (before Joe became Hillary’s “boyfriend”). He said Hillary vs BO is like Mamie Eisenhower challenging JFK. Lots of yuks from around the table. I’d like to see that in Mad as Hell part II.

Fox’s report on Hillary speaking at Fordham Graduation was a joke. Instead of letting the viewers listen to what Hillary had to say, the reporter just spoke over her about whether she might say something about Obama or what she might say about Obama, or if she will say something about Obama. The speech at a kid’s graduation was NOT about Obama. Everything Hillary says is NOT about Obama. The only place everything is about Obama is in his mind. Why bother reporting about someone speaking somewhere if they are not going to let the viewer hear what the speaker has to say? I am sick of the media turning everything into “all Obama all the time”. In short I am sick of the media and I am sick of Obama! Thanks for letting me rant.

The man is probably an atheist. Found a few sites that are still looking for his baptismal certificate. And about his Moslem (excuse me, Kenyan roots)… well, no one seems to have found a picture of his father either.
If I say to you, I am 1/2 American and 1/2 Kenyan… and if the 1/2 American part of you stems from an athesistic background, couldn’t you then conclude that at least by way of your father’s roots you were born, a) as and American-Kenyan; and b) since your mother was an atheist you were born at least 1/2 Moslem and derived from your father’s religious affiliation.
If I am born, and can not yet speak, would’t we… couldn’t we assign what we are based upon our parental lineage? So if BHO went through a major part of his life without any religion, (for example as an atheist or an agnostic) couldn’t we look to his father’s roots rather than to his mother’s. We should at least be asking:
- For more information on his father’s background.
- For more information regarding his Kenyan roots.
- What religion are most Kenyans?
- What are Kenyan traditions?
But mostly, I would like to know, how did he go from being called “Barry” by his mother to “Barack” … and why fear your own middle name… especially if you are such a proud African-American?
I would also like to know, if he should be sworn in as President of these United States…. when he puts his hand on that bible… will he be taking the oath as BO or as BHO?

If we call him an African-American; then we could lump all Europeans into one category, (i.e. European-Americans) and we do not. You are either a German-American; Spanish-American, etc down the line.
That is our geneaology… or genetic traits; and it speaks volumes to who and what we are inside. There is a tradition aback of each and everyone of us that cannot be denied or ignored. We are who we are in part by our families make-up. He is who he is. The questions many of us have is, Who is the real Barack/Barry Huisein Obama?
My question to myself is… here for all intensive purposes is a man with no roots. He has lived in the American mainland, raised in Hawaii; gone to Indonesia and was schooled there, lived in Chicago… etc. So how do we know what his traditions are? … what his real values are? Who is BHO and what does he stand for? But most importantly I want to know… where does he want to lead us: Back to his Hawaiian tradition… back to Indonesia…. or back to Kenya?
After reading an article by Erik Rush, (a contributor of FoxNews and a black American as well) I was led to 12 point agenda of Trinity United Church… the church BHO and his wife attended for over 20 years.
It reads as follows:

First, the BHO website should have a contact email address for you to write to or a billing department.
Secondly,
When our son was going through his bankruptcy and trying to get his ex-wife’s name off of his banking and credit card transactions, etc.; he was told that any automatic stuff could not be stopped as long as the automatic transfer had been approved and the amount to the penny had remained the same.
When he tried to open up a new account and close down the old account he had to wait 72 hours of no activity for them to close it down. (That means nothing going in and nothing coming out). And if an automatic charge came through the bank would just take it out of the other account he just opened.
So my suggestion is, if you have to open up a new account do it through ANOTHER BANK. Wait your 72 hours and then close it down.
