It’s the Sexism, Stupid!

DAILY TALKING POINT 6/19/08: ROE V WADE WAS YOUR GRANDMA’S BATTLE. YOUR GRANDMA WON. AND YOUR GRANDMA WON’T VOTE FOR OBAMA. LISTEN TO YOUR GRANDMA.

Quote of the Day, via Shorttermer: ”I am aware that many object to the severity of my language; but is there not cause for severity? I will be as harsh as truth, and as uncompromising as justice . . . I am in earnest — I will not equivocate — I will not excuse — I will not retreat a single inch — and I will be heard!” William Lloyd Garrison.

Dear Senator Boxer,

I am one of the 18 million voters who voted Hillary in as the DNC nominee for president. Obama stole this nomination and I will never vote for him. I am actively working to see Obama and any Democrat who supported Obama in this travesty lose in the November election.

I am a 53-year-old progressive socialist and a physician who has worked actively and hard for the Democratic Party since before I could vote. No more. I have waited too long to see this party support a woman for president.

If you support this lying, hypocritical sycophant, then I consider you to be someone I will vote against in every election you run in.

And, just in case you think I’m just angry and I’ll forget it when the time comes – you should know that I and millions of others who felt the same way left the organization NOW when they tried to force their choice down our throats, I wrote in Shirley Chisholm when the DNC let her down, I stood in the freezing cold to get signatures for the ERA in Missouri, I spent my own money to fly to Denver and support John Kerry – only to have him quit at the first sign of trouble, and now I will stand with millions of others who resist having our voices drowned out by the machinations of a flip-flopping tyro who only desires to win the presidency without having any ability to BE president.

I will not see my dreams of progressive, social programs and REAL change endangered or destroyed by 4 years of this incompetent back-room deal maker muddling through the train-wreck of a financial crisis looming down upon us. We need someone who can actually appreciate what it takes to get through this mess and make in one piece to the other side. Someone like Hillary.

And, NO, IT ISN’T TOO LATE TO STAND UP FOR THE TRUE NOMINEE OF THE DNC AND HONOR THE WILL OF THE GREATER THAN 18 MILLION MAJORITY VOTERS WHO CHOOSE HER AS OUR STANDARD BEARER. In fact, it’s actually time for you and women like you who were voted in by women like me to take responsibility for recovering the honor and integrity of this party.

There are millions of us gathering for the coming fight in Denver. My husband and I are only two of them -proud PUMA Pac members. We will not forget to -

REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER!

” . . . is such a &^%$#@! puzzle to me, I can’t figure it out, where he came from, all that baggage, no experience, no accomplishments, mean-spirited, arrogant and aggressive, hateful, divisive, insulting, negative . . .” (from previous thread)

Wow. For a minute there I thought we were back in 2000 talking about Bush! The similarities are scary.

Have a good day everyone. I’m looking forward to my next Daily Growl!

I love that letter! Can we edit this for all of the women senators that was talking “unity” yesterday? I will be putting together a letter today to send to the major newspapers in WV to let everyone know about us. I will also send a letter to the county newspapers that Hillary had virtually all of the support such as Mingo County. If I remember right, they gave Hillary 93% of the vote. Just a little higher than my county of Wayne, but it will do. I have to be out quite a bit today. I’ll be checking in from time to time. Keep up the great work everyone!

Not a problem on the links, I do want to add last night I was flipping through the channels and stoppped for about 2 minutes on Larry King (a show I have never been able to stand), Joy Behart (or however you spell her name) gave happened to be giving her keen political insight when she stated that Obama needs to focus on White Men going on to state that despite what the media says she believes that Clinton Women are already fully supporting O.

Who in their right mind would put this woman on TV, let alone as a co-host of a show that is geared specifically for women. My wife naturally stated “Turn That Sh** Off”

#8 MadLogic on 06.19.08 at 8:22 am

Hi all, I’ve just read the posts from the other night, seems as though some of you were worrying about trolls. It’s going to happen now and then, just don’t lose focus on our agenda.

ALSO I’D LIKE TO NOTE: Although we can comment on MO’s patriotism and other important issues, I think it is in poor taste that someone would comment on her looks overall. THIS in itself is sexist, which we are fighting against. So we can’t be hypocrite to ourselves right?

Hello Everyone again,

I was also wanting to let you all know that I we were told by Nick Casey Jr., an Obama supporter and WV DNC’s Chairman, that Hillary intends to release her delegates before the convention in August. I did’t beleive it one bit! Now my local newspaper is saying it again this morning. Should we call and email Hillary and encourage her to keep her delegates?

FYI–Here is my letter to the women senators. I posted it on the kitten thread, but thought I would re-post. Sorry for the length, but as I said, once I got started I found out I had a lot to say!
Have a purrrfect day everyone.

I have been a loyal Democrat for many years. I am an educated woman who has believed in the tenets of the Democratic Party, until now. I am sad to say that during this election, in my opinion, the DNC and the leaders of the Democratic Party have veered away from their central mission and abandoned their principle voter coalition. I have been horrified at the silent support of the outright viciousness towards Senator Clinton in the form of gross distortions of her positions and policies and outright sexism. Furthermore, I have been party to those speaking on behalf of the DNC in the media inviting many of us who have been staunch Democrats to leave the party if we do not agree with the manner of politics being employed currently. We have been told that we are not needed to win the election, or that we will “get over it” and rejoin the new movement. The DNC has tried time and time again, through its spokespeople, to force Senator Clinton out of the race and disregard the democratic process as well as the Constitutional right of giving every citizen their legal and moral vote. In addition, the DNC has decided to punish and disenfranchise approximately 2 million voters in FL and MI, for a decision that was not made by them to move their primary elections. This decision was commandeered by the Republican and/or legislative factions in their states. There have been many other instances throughout this campaign during which the vetting process has been unbalanced and biased in favor of Senator Obama and throughout which the DNC or the party leaders, such as yourself, did nothing to restore the balance. I simply do not understand these tactics–they are destructive to our country and insulting to its citizens. I am very sorry to say, that based upon this type of conduct I can no longer remain a member of the Democratic Party. This saddens me, but in all good conscience, I must change my party affiliation. I sincerely hope that some of these major problems can be resolved.

I stand by Senator Hillary Clinton and I am disappointed that you and your colleagues will not stand by her to the convention. I would like to tell you why I stand by her. In my opinion, one can judge the character and competence of a candidate by carefully examining their record, their life, and their current platform and policies. This is concrete evidence that can directly translate into what kind of President we will have after the election. In addition, the way in which a candidate reveals their humanity, character, compassion, courage and commitment can be assessed as we watch them navigate the treacherous waters of the campaign. On the first point, Senator Clinton has demonstrated without question a life of public service. She has dedicated her life to advocating for
children, standing up for women’s rights and human rights, supporting
invisible minorities, fighting for healthcare and education, and assuring honorable treatment of our military men and women. In addition she has proven her ability to work open mindedly and successfully in a bi-partisan culture where she has passed significant legislation during her tenure in the senate. Senator Clinton also possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of all domestic and international issues. She understands the economy here at home, and has also established herself as an international ambassador and diplomat. She clearly understands the complex and multi-dimensional issues that face our country in the global community and she has a command of the issues that contribute to the delicate balance in regions such as the Middle East. Her service on the Senate Armed Services Committee, her invitation to join the Pentagon Iraq Transformation Task Force, and her support by 35 distinguished and accomplished retired high ranking military personnel speak to her unparalleled preparation to assume the role of Commander-In-Chief.

These are only some of Senator Clinton’s accomplishments which attest to an impressive resume–a resume that is unequivocally one of the most distinguished of any presidential candidate. But her qualifications for president go beyond accomplishments. Senator Clinton has an indomitable spirit, an unquestionable love of country, unwavering courage and commitment to her mission, and a compassionate humanity. In the past months, I have grown to admire her more every day and to be inspired by her every day. Her ability to remain strong, clear and focused even when facing daunting challenges and adversaries has given me hope and courage. Her ability to be gracious and dignified in the face of unspeakable attacks is a shining example of how to maintain one’s belief and commitment under fire. Her amazing capacity to meet, speak to, and respect her enemies without bitterness or vitriol is brilliant and not only shows us how to conduct ourselves in everyday life, but also demonstrates how she would form allies in the world. She also knows when to compromise and when to hold fast to her principles and those of our country. She has an amazing capacity to be strong, courageous and compassionate. To me, these are the qualities that make a leader–a leader not only knows how to attend to the nuts and bolts of the job, but also knows how to connect with people and inspire them to be better people. In this arena, I find Senator Clinton far more inspiring than Senator Obama.

I fear for the Democratic Party and for our country because of the way in which this campaign was conducted, and therefore, I will not, under any circumstances vote for Senator Obama who is too inexperienced and ill-prepared for the job.

Michelle Obama to get unprecedented campaign team
Posted: 06:52 AM ET

From CNN Correspondent Jessica Yellin

Michelle Obama will be surrounded by a team of veteran aides.
WASHINGTON (CNN) — Barack Obama’s presidential campaign is planning to beef up the team surrounding his wife Michelle Obama, to give her the kind of professional campaign veterans experienced in rapid response to negative attacks – the kind of staff that is usually only seen around an actual candidate, according to a senior aide.

The move is meant to address concerns within the campaign that Michelle Obama will be the target of significant attacks from conservatives this year. Their pre-emptive response is a team that one aide says is unprecedented in presidential politics. According to multiple aides, this team will work with Mrs. Obama to modify her stump speech — in part to include more stories from the voters she met during the primary season — in a bid to counter criticism by some conservatives that she is out of touch.

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/

Former Kerry campaign Communications Director Stephanie Cutter has already been tapped as Mrs. Obama’s chief of staff, and additional staff will be hired in the coming weeks.

Aides say they expect Mrs. Obama to make occasional campaign stops over the next several weeks — including roundtables with military wives, and a womens’ event next week – before hitting the trail full time around July 4.

Good Morning Pumas,
I have been very busy so I haven’t blogged for a while, but I do read you every day.

I have mailed my 1/2 checks to NoName and Howdy Doody, bought out the remainder of panther stamps at the P.O., taped up a Democrats Unite flyer to the back window of my car, donated to Puma, lit several candles, and worked up a letter to State Dems and newspaper editors that I am emailing or faxing out.

I took the recent CNN electoral map and targeted the “Toss Up” states next to Utah–which is solid red. So today I am targeting Colorado. I am sending my informational letter to all the State Dems that have contact numbers, and all of the newspapers in the state. That should keep me busy for a day or two.

Hopefully by this weekend I will have Nevada done too.

My reasoning is this: so many of you are doing such a great job of centering on the DNC, SD’s, NoName, and others directly involved in this fiasco, that I thought I would “circle the wagons” around the edges and see how many uninformed folks can be reached and possibly change some minds or bring in new folks.

The Lord works in mysterious ways, and so can we!

Have a great new day!!

Just sent the following e-mail to Howard Dean in response to yesterday’s request to support a lawsuit against John McClain re: Federal Elections violation.

To Howard Dean, Having been a Democrat for over 40 years, I use to be so trusting of the Party and its leaders to move forward issues of importance to citizens of the U.S. Over the past few years, it has become more obvious that the Party is moving in the wrong direction. The Party is not issue driven anymore. The principles of the Party have deteriorated and now are at the bottom of the list of “to do” items. The Party is now lapsing into the same old backroom tactics as its competitors. There is no discussion of issues and certainly no respect for the voter and the voter’s rights. Before the Party spends millions on law suits toward John McCain, it had better clean up its own act. Where is the Party of the people? The Party has done nothing about election fraud of 2000. In fact, the Democratic Party is now practicing its own type of fraud as witnessed by millions of people when the RBC met in May. Disenfranchising voters is the worse crime of all and even worse is why it was done. Just to support a candidate of little experience and proclaimed popularity, the Party has taken a course that will doom its existence. How can the Party who is having financial problems, cannot meet the required dollars for their national convention , has been taken over by a campaign and leader who has no experience, take on a lawsuit that will require so much time, effort, and money just to humiliate the opponent. There are so many other priorities that should take precedents like supporting candidates that are true to the Party and have worked tirelessly and endlessly for the people of this country. I urge you and the Party not to follow the dubious path that has been choosen. PUMA Independent

Good Morning Murphy and all.

Today is another day, a fresh topic, new quote, nice photo, and wonderful letter. If Hill had hired all the enrgetic talents here, the campaign outlook would be different…

Heard they say Hill will join BO for campaign fundraising on Friday, we’ll see if it’s another rumor.

MSNBC showed Hill and Bill on Tim R.’s memorial briefly. She looked healthy and relaxed.

Before I go to work
Let’s face it

We were shown by every one from media and worse of all DNC that as white women we have no power.
Bottom line they were more afraid of the so precocious precious young and the black community than us. Why not..after all we always fall in line and do what we are told. They rather make us upset for a while than speaking the truth.

Well this white woman is sick and tired of being taken for granted by the establishment.

As Obama put it to Hillary ..I am feeling down and my claws have come out and as Michelle said about bill… I am ready to scratch DNC’s eyes out .

Here lies a starving PUMA waiting

#23 prplvette85 on 06.19.08 at 9:21 am

#10MissyD77- Do not for a moment believe that. I talked last night with some people still involved with the Hillary campaign. She is not giving up the delegates. She will go to the convention. She will be on that roll call.
Hillary is a person who keeps her word. She is only asking for money for the *61 and dnc because she promised she would. It is up to us..her long time and forever supporters to make up our own minds..and to keep doing what we are doing…and PUMA’s we are doing a great job. So let’s stay focused on the positive…and keep up our action goals.

When sending letters to the media, we should definitely keep Lou Dobbs on our list. He is author of the book “Independents Day” and stays on the issue of the failures of both parties. In our case, we want to expose the extreme failures of the DNC.

Unless there’s an action item — Let’s not get started on polls; or, pseudo-celebrities wanting to perpetuate their 15 minutes of fame. We already know how biased they are.

Hillary didn’t listen and if we are half as successful as she was in the primaries, we will accomplish our goals.

#28 SunnyPA on 06.19.08 at 9:41 am

Breaking: Obama decides to decline public financing

These quotes are from the McCain camp on Obama decides to decline public financing.

Steve Schmidt, a senior McCain adviser, told CNN that Obama’s decision to opt out of the public financing system “a broken promise of staggering dimensions.

“Obama’s candidacy is based on words and it seems like everyday that passes, those words look emptier and emptier when judged against his actions,” Schmidt said.

#36 mystic4hill on 06.19.08 at 10:08 am

Sent my letter to all 10 of the “Checklist for Change” Senators (or as I like to call them, the Turncoat 10:

Dear Senator,

Apparently, and suddenly, you and nine of your female colleagues in the Senate have decided to set forth your “Checklist For Change”, ten issues that you deem to be of vital importance to women.

It would appear that you are all doing this in an effort to “heal the wounds” of this primary season, and to gather all of us wayward women back to the fold and behind the nominee selected by the Democratic Party.

Shame on you! These are just words. Where have you been all year? Where was your concern for women during this past year of despicable, vile sexism and misogyny thrown at one of your own, and therefore at all women, yourselves included?

Senator McCaskill, why, after accepting approximately $500,000 from Emily’s List, did you feel no obligation to back the more qualified female candidate for President?

Senator Klobuchar, you accepted roughly $300,000 from Emily’s List. Why didn’t you endorse Hillary Clinton?

Senator Boxer, you are from my state. I did not hear you once voice concern about the treatment your colleague, a respected Senator and former First Lady, as well as Presidential candidate, received during this primary race. You launched an investigation into the horrendous treatment of the Dixie Chicks after one of them publicly criticized Bush. Where is that outrage about the treatment Senator Clinton has received? Where is the investigation?

NOT A ONE OF YOU called out the media, or the Obama campaign, for the sexism displayed during this primary race. Not a one.

If you really cared about the concerns of women, you would stand up in front of the people of this country, half of whom are women, and endorse Senator Hillary Clinton. If you care about equal rights and equal treatment, you would stand up against sexism in the Democratic party. If you care about women’s rights you would investigate the treatment of Hillary Clinton by the media. If you care about reforming healthcare, you would help Hillary Clinton get into the White House. If you care about keeping jobs in America, you would not be endorsing the guy that once again has flip-flopped on NAFTA.

If you think your sudden concern for my welfare is going to change my mind and bring me back to the party, and win my vote for your selected nominee, you are sadly mistaken. Your “Checklist for Change” is far too little, far too late. It’s an insult to my intelligence, a slap in my face.

This is not about anger or grief that my choice for President is not the nominee, although she did win the popular vote and the most important swing states. This is not about sour grapes, or revenge, or emotions that will calm by November.

I will not vote for your selected nominee. He is not qualified to be the leader of the free world. He lacks experience, judgment, foresight, maturity, awareness, and fortitude. He’s never held a full-time job. He’s engaged in the back-room, Chicago-style politics of the Daleys. His associations are suspect at best. He has engaged in bitter race-baiting, and never once spoken out against the sexism and misogyny engaged in by the media. He has, in fact, contributed to it personally. He disenfranchised voters and stole votes. He has taken over the DNC. All of this was done with the blessings of the Democratic Party and, through your silence, all ten of you.

So – no, I won’t support your selected nominee. I won’t support the destruction of the party I have loved and been a part of for over 35 years. And Senators Boxer and Feinstein, as one of your constituents, I won’t support either of you.

In November, if Hillary Clinton’s name is not top of the ticket, I will vote for John McCain. And there are MILLIONS of her supporters who will do the same. End of discussion.

Just a short note to tell you that your support for our Hillary is very much appreciated; and we know how hard it must be to stand steady when there is so much pressure to cave in to the DNC and Obama.

You are a portrait of strength, and please continue your support.

We are working in groups under an umbrella group to and we are millions in numbers. I am now a Hillary Republican unless the DNC fesses up and does right by us in nominating the candidate that was the will of the people – Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Some of us have taken on additional tasks of documenting all misogynist, sexist, ageist and discriminatory acts/remarks toward women and Hillary.
We will call them out on women bashing – and this is in addition to supporting the only qualified Democratic candidate for President –HRC..

Thank you for reading my note. God bless you. God bless Hillary, and God save our country.

Please note the sentence that stands out to me:
You are what gives me strength to continue this fight when we get to Denver!

Right on mystic4hill #36. You hit the nail on the head in your letter.

I think this site should send encouraging and thank you letters to those who did show some backbone and morals.

HELP
Need the link
In a comment on a thread from yesterday or today, there was a youtube link to an interview with a women named Christian. I think that she was a civilian protestor at the DNC rules meeting and was caught on camera loudly protesting.
In the interview she said that Obama voted PRESENT on 5 different bills on abortion presented to the Illinois senate.
If that is true, and we have to verify it, then he surely is not the protector of Roe v. Wade that the democrats are pretending he is.

#42 Mac on 06.19.08 at 10:36 am

MamaPuma, Thank you for the update on the letters. Greatly appreciate your efforts.

#43 droc on 06.19.08 at 10:36 am

There is much more to this Obama charade than sexism. We are currently in the greatest financial disintegration in modern history. The $4 gallon/gas is a part of keeping that fantasy alive. The financial elites in London/Wall St. like George Soros do not want the Clintons anywhere near the White House during the meltdown of their system. The Clintons are too much like FDR and JFK for their liking.

They are using Obama like we use toilet paper. They bought off Edwards and many superdelegates. They own Pelosi, Reid, and Dean.

The Democratic Party has currently been hijacked and we have two months to rescue it from these financial parasites.

Your letter is absolutely wonderful….I am speechless after reading it. It says so much and is so powerful but still comes across as respectful and dignified. I truly like letters like this cause even though sometimes (me alot more) we get so angry of what has been done to Hillary that we do not express it the right way. I call it coming in the “side door” type of letter. It can not help but impact you whether you are the reader or the person/topic that is in the contents of the letter. I wish I could write like that. I have a letter that I have been trying to compose that does just what yours did but I have to save it and keep tweaking it…cause I want it just right when I send it….Thank you again for sharing your letter with us and giving me a “lift” today that there are millions of us out there and we will be heard.
God Bless and Have a Great Day!

From Pumaindy…in Overnight Kitten post…MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY!!!!

“I watch in horror as
- Our freedom of speech is suppressed
- Voter registration fraud occurs
- The MSM lies and manipulates
- BO’s associates and relatives keep being discovered

Yet nothing has stopped this person yet.”

What PUMA’s are doing on this site and other pro Hillary sites is so important. I hope and pray that people will open up their eyes and see what is at stake.

#46 MadLogic on 06.19.08 at 10:43 am

Obama changes his mind on Public Financing. He outspent Senator Clinton by 3-4 to 1 and barely limp across the line. So he is going to need a few trillions to overcome Senator McCain I’d say.

#47 lotts1948 on 06.19.08 at 10:47 am

The saddest thing for me is that history has this tendency to repeat itself, because the memory of the people is very short. That’s why frankly I believe the internet and people who can get together like this group are very important to try to keep history from repeating itself in this country today. The differences I can see that give me hope is that in Germany during the rise of Hitler, they didn’t have the internet and groups like this who do everything in their power to get the information out there. They did have a powerful speaker in Hitler, he has a hypnotic way about him. We have to remember the “Hitler Youth”. He focused on an enemy and placed the blame for everything bad that was going on in the country square on the backs of that group. It worked. People swallowed the organized propaganda. He was elected to office. One has to remember that. He was elected and thus began the “Change” that will be remembered in history as one of the most infamous reigns of terror. If you truly look at that portion of history and compare it with the rise of Nobama and really look at some of the things that are going on in their camp, you begin to be horrified about the mass effort to get him elected. This is the kind of “Change” that Americans cannot just lie back and take it. We have to continue our effort. I believe with my entire being that the American way of life, the American ideals and the American concepts of democracy are all at risk here today.

Every effort we make to convince superdelegates that they can still vote their conscience and THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE is a worthwhile effort. Every mass mailing of letters to our different representatives and to the media and to other groups may chip a crack. Every person whom each of us can influence may make a difference. I join each and every one of you in fighting the good fight. I will not go down into that dark night without a fight!!!!

Just got this from our coalition ClintonDems.com

Dear Clinton Dem,

Today Senator Barbara Mikulski joined Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Patty Murray (D-Wash.), Mary Landrieu (D-La.), Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) to announce their “Checklist for Change,” a list of ten issues Congress can immediately address to improve the lives of the American people. They include: providing equal pay for equal work, keeping jobs in America, making health care affordable, taking care of our military families and veterans, restoring America’s credibility in the world, protecting our environment, making America energy independent, preparing for future disasters, enforcing fiscal accountability and protecting the family checkbook. This is a blatant pander – a “checklist” of hot button items to women.

Call me cynical, but this sudden urge to “do something” about issues most important to women strikes me as “just words.”
____________________________________________

Please phone these leaders and tell them if they really care about the concerns of women they should stand up and endorse Hillary Clinton. If they care about equal rights and equal treatment that they should stand up against sexism in the Democratic party. If they care about women’s rights they should investigate the treatment of Hillary Clinton by the media. If they care about reforming healthcare, they should help Hillary Clinton get into the White House. If they care about keeping jobs in America, they should not be endorsing the guy that once again has flip-flopped on NAFTA.

Specifically ask Senator McCaskill “Why, after accepting approximately $500,000 from Emily’s List did you feel no obligation to back the more qualified female candidate for President?”

Sen. Klobuchar accepted roughly $300,000 from Emily’s List. Why didn’t she endorse Hillary?

Sen. Boxer was mum during this whole primary season. Why the sudden concern about women’s issues now? Senator Boxer launched an investigation into the horrific treatment of the Dixie Chicks after one of them publicly criticized Bush. Where is that outrage about the treatment Hillary has received? Where is the investigation?

NOT ONE OF THEM called out the media for the sexism!

The smoke and mirrors of the Obama campaign once again has risen to the forefront with the recent removal of two Muslim women from behind the candidate during a campaign stop…appearance is, afterall, everything. To make amends, however, Obama is going to reach out to the Muslim community for their support- of course he wants their vote -he just doesn’t want to be photographed with them…

From Emily’s List’s mission statement:

EMILY’s List members are dedicated to building a progressive America by electing pro-choice Democratic women to office. We believe in the power of women as candidates, as contributors, as campaign professionals, and as voters to bring about great change in our country.

[snip]

EMILY’s List is committed to a three-pronged strategy to elect pro-choice Democratic women: recruiting and funding viable women candidates; helping them build and run effective campaign organizations; and mobilizing women voters to help elect progressive candidates across the nation.

To Brianknoxville
I do not know if you are on here but in one of the daily growl about sending get well cards(?) – you said you were interested in getting the names of the ppl at the hearing for MI and FL as how they cast their votes. I have been trying for the last 2 days to get that info.

In calling the DNC it is interesting that I have been told that information will probably be in transcript form, will take some time cause it was after all a 10 hour meeting, and they are not sure that the transcript will include the names of the person but will probably just use numbers – i.e., 26-0 18-12 etc…..
I have not given up and will keep trying.

#24 LOL. I’m at work so just now seeing your comment. Uh, yeah, let’s turn that over to Richardson. Since he seems to think he can do that also. Didn’t he try once before. Anyway, it is commendable that he wants to stop terrorism (don’t we all) but these therrorist aren’t just going to lay down their guns. They aren’t going out without a fight because they believe so strongly about their cause. I just think *61 is sometimes naive. It would be great if we could capture him and give him a trial but……..

#63 1of18MilforHill08 on 06.19.08 at 11:24 am

I just called the DNC and asked to speak to someone in H. Deans office to voice a comment/concern. I was transferred to a girl who said she could take it. So I started to tell her my message to Dean and she started to yawn in my ear. I asked her if I was “boring” her and if so could I talk to someone else. Before I finished my sentence she transferred me to some automated system. SO I really left him a “enlightening” message.
So HOW important are we? I say really important and they are just turning a deaf ear but they are going to be scrambling come November.
Cause if they do not fix this mess, put Hillary as the nominee that she earned and deserves, this “Sweetie” will not ever vote The Chosen One and will for the first time in my adult life vote Republican!

For those people who need talking points at Pride events:

“HRC president Joe Solmonese credits a phone call Hillary Clinton placed to him before the second Federal Marriage Amendment vote in 2006 with potentially helping to shelve the FMA for the foreseeable future.

Before the vote, Clinton suggested to Solmonese that HRC conduct nationwide polling about the issue, which ultimately showed that although support for marriage equality had risen about 13 points since 2004, voters of every stripe were “enraged” that Congress was debating the issue rather than the Iraq war and gas prices. ”

Murphy and ShortTermer,

Haven’t been here since early yesterday as we had a storm in the afternoon and it took out my desktop network adapter. Pete had to reconfig modem and linksys router to bypass desktop, so I am back and trying to catch up.

If there is anything I should go to or pay particular attention to, please let me know…..feel like I’ve been to Antartica or something! Need a PUMA fix!
Did anyone see the Tim Russert memorial from Kennedy Center? The last part of Luke’s eulogy was asking everyone to imagine this coming Sunday that in heaven there is a “special edition” of Meet the Press. He made several references to politicians throughout history being on this special edition, the last reference was Teddy Roosevelt, and Luke says ” and..maybe Teddy Roosevelt is speaking on the many reasons why a “third party” is needed”! Interesting. I saw Luke shake our President’s hand and give a huge hug to our girl.
President and Senator Clinton were not seen on MSNBC’s coverage until after the service was concluded and people were leaving. I was so touched by the fact that each time they were shown, they were touching. To me, that was sweet and an up your nose to the nit wit msm always pontificating about their relationship like they are sharing the bedroom with them! Also, at the end was old Chrissy Matthews, doing his bloviating best to, along with all the other members of the msm turn a fine journalist and human being into something that I personally don’t think, if Tim was who they say he was, would have approved of at all. Then again we have Matthews, doing a follow-up, and he could not get through even one hour, even an event as somber as this, without dissing Hillary.
When Chris crosses over, I hope St. Pete bitch slaps him for all of the mean and unnecessary things he’s said…sorry this is so long…..making up for yesterday. I missed you guys…I’m proud to be a PUMA!

SusyT- I try not to watch Matthews spit all over himself anymore but since the topic seems to be sexism, I am reminded that the reason I don’t watch Matthews anymore (besides the fact that he has some saliva issues) is that he actually said that Hillary was only a senator because her husband cheated on her…I believe he was forced to apologize publically but nevertheless he continued to get his jabs in throughout the primary and then couldn’t understand why Hillary wouldn’t participate in his college tour – of course he is also the same man who confessed that Obama sent a tingle up his leg…so I agree with you, Matthews is a sexist who can hardly attain the journalistic standard of “hack”….

Obama softens NAFTA rhetoric
Posted: 11:20 AM ET

From CNN Political Producer Peter Hamby

Sen. Obama had strong words for NAFTA in February and March.
(CNN) — Before the Ohio primary in March, the battle between Democratic candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton morphed into a fierce debate over free trade – a clash that seemed to hinge on which candidate could appear more anti-NAFTA.

Now, in an interview with Fortune magazine, Obama appears to backing off his tough talk on trade.

“Sometimes during campaigns the rhetoric gets overheated and amplified,” Obama told Fortune.

Obama has consistently described him himself a free-trader at heart, but the heightened rhetoric on NAFTA put forth by both he and Clinton opened the Democrats up to accusations of political pandering from Republicans and editorial boards.

“June 19, 2008 — NAME-BRAND journalists have let Barack Obama make any claim he chooses about Iraq, Afghanistan or coping with terrorism without pinning him down for details.”

“Yet many of his comments and positions seem stunningly naive about national security. Given that this man may become our next president, shouldn’t he explain how he’d do the many impressive things he’s promised? ”

“This week, Obama claimed, again, that he’d promptly capture Osama bin Laden. OK, tell me how: Specifically, which concrete measures would he take that haven’t been taken? How would he force our intelligence agencies to locate bin Laden? And he can’t just respond, ‘That’s classified’.”

My Letter to the SuperDelegates
(Why I think Hillary Rodham Clinton Should Be The Democratic Nominee)

Dear SuperDelegate,

I am well aware that the “Democratic Selection Process” is a process by which pledged delegates cast their vote during the Convention to be held in Denver Colorado near the end of August. “I am also aware that in 1982, the Hunt Commission recommended and the Democratic National Committee adopted a rule that set aside some delegate slots for Democratic members of Congress and for state party chairs and vice chairs.[6] Under the original Hunt plan, superdelegates were 30% of all delegates, but when it was finally implemented for the 1984 election, they were 14%. The number has steadily increased, and today they are approximately 20%.” (See, Wikipedia, Superdelegates).

There are currently about 798 party elites who have for all intensive purposes been the determining factor in this our Primary Season; primarily due to Howard Dean’s blunder not to seat the delegates in both Florida and Michigan, or at least not adhering to the 50% automatic reduction rule. That move had the effect of disenfranchising the voters as well as depriving Hillary Rodham Clinton of her victories there, she not being awarded the popular vote she rightly deserved based upon votes cast, as well as depriving her of the momentum she should have gained had Howard Dean not been so stubborn and make one of the worst blunders of our time; becoming as it were, the Katherine Harris of the Democratic Party.

Chairman Dean, the media and most voters were all in agreement that there was much excitement in this *historic* primary election and that there were record turnouts. So it behooves me as to why the Chairman of the DNC was trying desperately to coax the SuperDelegates to endorse a candidate before all the votes were counted—and even moreso because it was he who called for a 50-state strategy. For example, he first made his announcement on mainstream cable news on April 3rd of this year saying:

“It is my commitment, working with the Florida delegation and the campaigns, to find a fair solution so that Florida will be seated — and we are confident enough that we have reserved hotel rooms for the delegates from Florida in Denver,” he said.”

Then, a few days later on April 6th, he appeared on the CBS’s Bob Schieffer show he sent out a confusing signal saying on the one hand that he wanted the SuperDelegates to make up their minds as soon as possible; yet at the same time suggesting that there was a limit to the amount of pressure he could put on them to endorse a candidate. At that time, Mr Dean pointed out that there were still 10 more contest to go, starting with Pennsylvania on April 22; Indiana and North Carolina on May 6; West Virginia on May 13; Kentucky and Oregon on May 20; Idaho on May 27; Puerto Rico on June 1; and finally Montana and South Dakota on June 3. “The voters ought to have their say,” Dean told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos. (See Los Angeles Times, April 6, 2008). And have their say they did because Hillary Clinton won most of those remaining states and with wide margins.
That all sounded grandiose, but the reality of what actually happened was far removed. For example, both he and others like Nancy Pelosi would use Obama *code-words* saying things like the country wants quote/unquote “change” as if to suggest to the listener that they had already endorsed Senator Obama and were actually playing favorites by endorsing him while supposedly remaining neutral. In short, the Party leadership was pushing the SuperDelegates to make up their minds (in favor of Mr Obama) sooner than later; the argument being that a protracted deliberation would divide up the Party and fracture Party unity; (yet what unity can be had if we the *contributing* voters are not included into that equation). At the same time, Mr Dean would constantly say that the Democratic Party was having record turnouts. The inference was that Senator Obama was bringing in that huge turnout; never giving credit to Senator Clinton for the huge number of voters who voted for her. And the media going along with this misconception would prop up their media darling (as Lou Dobbs might say) by leading us to believe that the only candidate that was bringing in new voter registration were Senator Obama, not really recognizing the tremendous support via voter turnout for Hillary Clinton. And this can be born out because Senator Clinton went toe-to-toe with Mr Obama getting half of the vote; and in the end even surpassing him. Logic dictates: While voter registration was up, only ½ of those voters cast their vote for Mr Obama; the other half did so on behalf of Hillary Rodham Clinton. Logic also dictates that although Senator Obama won more states by way of caucuses he did so by using very unsavory tactics. For example, in Texas he bused in people as far away as New York and then permitted them to vote for him; while at the same time, turning the elderly and those in wheelchairs away. And this I was told by someone who worked at a caucus site. Be that as it may, and based upon the last two election cycles, Mr Obama has won predominately all *red* republican states; whereas Hillary has won all the larger states and swing states needed to win in the fall. That alone should give any SuperDelegate pause.

I recall watching CNN and watching in amazement as John King would work his Magic Map. I recall him constantly telling his viewers that the SuperDelegates would be most interested in the last few races to see who had the momentum; and that, they might endorse a candidate based upon the ending results. Well, near the end, it became increasingly clear that Senator Clinton had the momentum. Yet still, the DNC, Howard Dean and the Obama camp were applying increasing pressure to put Obama over the top and to make Mrs Clinton their sacrificial lamb by trying to get the uncommitted SuperDelegates.to endorse Obama. And if I dare say, the Obama camp was putting increased pressure on Hillary supporters to switch their vote over to him. But instead of droves there was a steady trickle.

When that did not happen in large droves as many were expecting, the Obama camp in cahoots with the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee found a way to turn the tide in Senator Obama’s favor. This favoring, if we could call it that, came about on May 31st of this year when the 30 member panel met in Washington DC to decide the unresolved issue with regard to both Florida and Michigan. The nation watched with baited breath because Mr Dean has previously suggested to us that Florida and Michigan would be seated at the Convention. What we did not know at the time was *how* that seating would occur. As ordinary viewers, we did not get it yet. We did not understand the system of an allocation process that would be implemented and that only ½ vote would be given to the Florida and Michigan delegation; making them as it were only ½ a person. But now we know. We know that in telling us that FL and MI would have full seating Mr Deal mislead us because their representation would now be cut in half. We also know what bystander Harriet Christian meant when she yelled out, “I was not a person before but now I am only half a citizen.” Her outrage was felt my many of us as we watched this body of a select few throw a race to favor Senator Obama.

Why? Why were we outraged? We are outraged that Howard Dean should have originally placed a 100% reduction of delegates when the “automatic” reduction should have been set at a 50% reduction. Yet because of one clause giving the DNC power to override those rules, Howard Dean made the biggest blunder of his life and instituted a 100% reduction. So that the May 31st meeting was a way and means for him to save face. It was also a way for him to help give Obama the leading edge—something he promised not to do for either candidate. And it is that leading edge that has infuriated so many of us because Mr Dean had been constantly saying that he would not do anything that would favor one candidate over another. Yet this is exactly what happened, and for the following reason:

Mr Obama was given ½ of the delegates for a state that he did not run in because he and three others, (John Edwards, Chris Dobbs, and Bill Richardson) had VOLUNTARILY removed their names from the Michigan ballot. So that, by the time May 31st came around the only remaining candidates were Senator Clinton and Senator Obama. And when I say voluntarily, I do mean that there was absolutely nothing in the DNC rules forcing them to remove their names. Senators Clinton, Dennis Kucinach and Gravel were still on the ballot. In other words, even without Senator Obama it was still a legally bonafied contest regardless of Mr Dean’s dismissal of it. What that says to me is that the controversy resolves around an ego play of power: Of who has more authority, the state legislature or the DNC. This kind of thing reminds me of the controversy surrounding the Terry Shavio case in Florida between the legislative branch of government and the Justices. So that, you can imagine our surprise when the Michigan Challenge included giving all the uncommitted votes to Senator Obama. It surprised us, because we had already been made aware that against Party rules Obama, Edwards, Dobbs, and Richardson had each formed a boys club *pact* and instructed voters to vote undecided via the Internet and Emails campaign, etc. So to hear Senator Carl Levin say that they were going to award Senator Obama ½ the delegation based upon some obscene *Exit Poll* of uncommitted is, to me, the day our American democracy died. It is a very dangerous move when the media is given more weight than the voters themselves. A sad day indeed and negates all of our long fought for traditions regarding the Primary Process. It flies in the face of real logic and reason.

We are also outraged because for weeks on end, all we heard was that the Clinton machine were somehow plotting to steal the nomination in some smoke-filled back room at the Convention; a fear tactic to be sure!Yet we saw no such media outrage when, right in front of our eyes, the Obama team in conjunction with Howard Dean and the leaders of the DNC stole 64 votes from the Michigan delegation. Maybe it was not in some smoke filled back room, but we can all remember that 1 hour lunch turning into a 2 ½ hour deliberation over lunch and wine. So that, by the time everyone came back there was a push for a speedy outcome—a time to go home. Just another day at the office while they placed our lives in the balance. That outcome was the voting in and the splitting of the 115 Michigan delegation; one half to Clinton and the other half to Obama when as we said earlier he had voluntarily removed his name from the ballot and should not have been given any Michigan delegates. In other words, if we split the 115 member delegation AS THE VOTES WERE CAST, Hillary Clinton should have been given 79 with the remaining 55 assigned to the uncommitted column. Instead this body of people gave Obama 64 and Hillary 64. And so, in plain sight Obama stole 64 delegates he neither earned nor deserved, again, because he was not on the ballot. In the end some additional votes were taken from Senator Clinton and simply given to Obama. And in our eyes to give him the momentum for the remaining contest which at that time were Puerto Rico on June 1; and Montana and South Dakota on June 3.

And now we get to the last day of contests and what I saw happening, is to me, a direct result of the DNC May 31st meeting by giving media more power than what they should have. Here is what happened as I saw it. Early in the morning as I was watching FoxNews they ran a report from the Associated Press saying that Hillary Clinton was going to give a concession speech that night; the implication being that she had lost the nomination, was not going to compete, and more than that, that leak to the press (by whom, we can only infer), was an intentional move to suggest to the voters that they stay home and not go to the polls to vote for Senator Clinton. It was a blatant miscarriage of our democracy in an corrupt attempt to reduce her popular vote and delegate count because they feared losing to Senator Clinton. I remember this clearly because Geraldine Ferraro was being interviewed at the time. Then some minutes later, Clinton surrogates told us that the AP story was false and that Hillary Clinton was not conceding; and why should she when she was expected to win South Dakota that night. But by that time, the damage was done. And if that weren’t enough, come noon-time, the AP again put out a report that Obama had won the nomination, because they said he had reached the newer magic delegate number of 2,118 and exceeded it by 2 delegates. This was yet another ploy to get the voters to stay home and not cast their vote for Hillary. And although this may have been true, to many of us, we are also well aware as to how that came about through the help and aid of the mis-actions of the DNC just days earlier.

And so you see—we are not merely disgruntled Hillary supporters; we are true patriots and truly angry at the Democratic Party for rushing to judgement and in promoting a man, who to us, is an illegitimate nominee; and for the following reasons: Hillary has won the Popular Vote and Hillary also has the Electorial College needed to win in the General Election against John McCain in the fall and still her party dissed her and is going with a candidate who does not represent change but is, in fact, a corrupt Chicago politician (in my opinion). And so, the bottom line for me is: The Party has abandoned Hillary and her supporters in favor of a man who appears to have more campaign funds. But where is it said in any DNC rule that electability is determined by who has collected the most funds. And where pray tell does voting one’s conscience means using the same measure? In light of all of the above and in conjunction with the final Popular Vote total one has to wonder if the SuperDelegates have given Hillary Clinton a fair deal and/or even if they read her May 29th “Letter to the SuperDelegates,” in which she presented, in clear precise terms her case. If you are one of them, please consider reading it now because it is not too late to endorse Hillary Rodham Clinton as the Party’s nominee for the Presidency of the United States.

Popular Vote:
Clinton: 17,839,981 at 48.04%
Obama: 17,565,530 at 47.30%
http://www.thegreenpapers.com/P08/D.phtml

Electorial Map:
Clinton: 308+
Obama: 237
McCain: 216

[Source: Hillary Clinton’s “Letter to the Super Delegates” as well as the PDF file entitled “rightchoice.pdf” plus the latest media numbers as seen today June 17th on FoxNews between Obama and McCain].

Finally, it has been reported that presumptive nominee, Obama has recently said that he is confident that he can win in the fall by discounting states like Florida and Ohio. This would seem to fly in the face of Howard Dean’s pledge to run a 50 state strategy; a strategy that Hillary fulfilled by campaigning in every state of the Union except the two that Howard Dean placed off limits. By comparison, Senator wrote off states like West Virginia and Kentucky; both states Hillary won. But now he is asking you to believe… nay, let me change that to, he is asking you to “read his lips” and accept on a premise of *hope* that he can *change* the electorial map and win the General Election without Florida and Ohio—and I do suppose without the support of Michigan; a thing that is not likely to happen. My dear reader: He is asking you to believe in fairy tales.

But more than that, he is asking you to believe that he can win back those of us you have been, and who still are supporting Hillary Rodham Clinton as the nominee to win against Senator McCain in the fall. And so, I end this letter with the following thought: In pushing for Party Unity, Howard Dean and the DNC and now Obama supporters are underestimating the anger and outrage to which we feel over the disenfranchisement of Michigan and Florida as well as the unfair treatment of Hillary Clinton to get out of the race—a race, she won! That is not change I can believe in. That is corruption at its height. And so, I implore you (if you haven’t already), please reconsider your endorsement and vote come August next and nominate Hillary Rodham Clinton to be our next President of the United States.

Were I to write about all the reasons why I think Hillary would make the better President over Obama; I could write a book. But one only need to look at their legislative achievements, their experience, their judgements as well as their associations to draw the conclusion that he is not ready to become our leader. Charisma may draw in large youthful crowds who seem to see this contest as some sort of rock star American Idol event, but it is only through experience, hard work and leadership skills that governmental policies are made. And if you don’t believe me, just listen to the man—without his lofty speech and his tele-prompter the man cannot think while on his feet and has made many false and misleading and to be frank, immature statements. Hillary Rodham Clinton is that person or *real* change and I urge you to endorse her before it is too late.

Both myself and my spouse are Hillary supporters. That is two votes for the price of one letter because my spouse is also supporting Hillary even though she is a registered republican. Or, we could say, two votes lost to McCain if our Hillary is not chosen to represent the Democratic Party. So you see—Obama was not the only one pulling in Independents or those from other partiesso was Hillary. T’is something to take into consideration is it not? Especially since Obama’s poll numbers are not rising as he thought they would since Hillary’s *suspension* speech. Which means that Hillary supporters like me, are not jumping on the bus only to get trampled underneath.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Sincerely,

Good morning & good afternoon Pumas,

After reading the great letters written to the “10″, I was leery of mine. However, I tweaked it and am sending it to the “10. If any get bounced back, I will print it out on Puma letterhead and snail mail to their offices & remind them that their title is United States Senator and since I was born in the United States and that there are 50 – not 48 or 58, they represent me no matter which state they live in……….

I’m on a roll today – don’t know how to get the bots off the Koolaid & see for themselves that they’re supporting an “empty suit”.

When I see articles about how this whole mess started with Ted Kennedy losing his presidential bid – it just makes me sick to my stomach. Is there more that we can do…………….

June 19, 2008

Dear Senator ,

After I saw the “news conference” with nine of your female Senate colleagues – I was so angry that I had to step away from the TV, the computer, the internet blogs and just take a deep breath, run around the block, and remember that I was raised a lady. Um, screw that……………….

My first thought was and is: HOW DARE YOU? You took Hillary Clinton’s agenda and posed it as “Your Check List of To-Do Items”. She has stated these issues over and over during the past 18 months of her campaign and over 35 years of service to the Democratic Party and this country. By the way, it must be the thing to do – Obama has now also taken all of her solutions to those issues just like he stole the campaign by being “selected“, not elected. I see why Obama has to appropriate her ideas and solutions – he has no resume, no qualifications to be president, was “brought up” in the dirty Chicago political machine – and excuse me, this is not a secret about Chicago. They like to register dead people to vote. There are just so many things wrong with this person even being on the ticket.

My question to all of you is: WHERE WERE YOU when the Obama campaign and media engaged repeatedly in the most vile misogynist campaign against Hillary and consequently to all women and most especially to one of “your own”? Obama is the supposed head of his campaign and has to know how his “young, enthusiastic, college educated, etc.” supporters have castigated Hillary on the Internet, have threatened to kill her and her family & those of us that support her, have said that “Bro’s before Ho’s” is preferred. Obama & his volunteers want to set up Camps for Kids to indoctrinate them to his way of thinking (haven‘t figured that out yet), is setting up 6-week training sessions for his volunteers – military enlistees only get eight weeks of boot camp – what is being taught in those 6-weeks??? And, of course, Obama engaged in his own misogynist moments – flipping her off, brushing his shoulder, saying “You’re likeable enough”, not suggesting to his own wife to stop – I.e., if you can’t run your own house, how can you run the White House”, etc. By the way, did you notice how Michelle praised Laura Bush (who is a very nice woman) but did not even mention Hillary by name?

By not stepping up you have helped set back women’s progress 50 years and your transparent, limp gesture is an insult not only to Hillary but to all women. If you stayed quiet for political expedience that makes you unworthy of the office you hold and raises questions about each of you as messengers for women’s concerns.

If Obama’s surrogates use Roe V Wade scare tactics to bludgeon us into submission, why isn’t reproductive rights on the checklist – perhaps because after 34 years, it’s not that important anymore. Us ignorant, bitter, tired old women fought that fight, we’re not gonna get pregnant at this time in our lives, younger women who take it for granted can fight their own battle.

We’re done – but of course you know this because according to Howard Dean, Donna Brazille & the rest of the DNC – our votes are not needed or wanted by the “new” democrats. Good luck with that. Do the math – if 18 million of us voted for Hillary and are not supporting Obama because we feel he is just completely unqualified to be President – where are the votes going to come from to elect him??

Final thought for all of you – Senators, Representatives, SuperDelegates, Democratic National Committee members, Governors, etc. who are on Obama’s bandwagon – I will NEVER vote for Obama, donate to or volunteer for the DNC, support you women senators or other Dems downstream. I am tired of hearing you (collectively) and the talking heads on TV say that we will “fall in line” and support Obama. If you haven’t realized by now that this is bigger than everything we fought for over the past 30 years, then the light bulb had better go off starting now. This country had/has the opportunity to elect the most qualified, brilliant, compassionate person as President of the United States and you have kicked her to the curb and helped Obama toss her under the bus. There are so many of us now under that bus that we’re thinking of starting our own party – how do you like them apples????

Also, the last item on MY check list – buying doughnuts for the PUMA party and maybe for the bus group if I can afford it.

Re: post #85

Yes, well BO got the AA vote by seeming like he represented the Left and now he needs the moderates so he is swinging Right. He doesn’t stand for anything. He’ll say anything to get people’s votes. I might add that he is following the Oprah Winfrey playbook (pander to middle class and get their money- BO is doing same to get votes). Her strategy worked quite well. She became a billionaire by doing all this and so in 2008 she had the money to bankroll BO. BO and she are close (no matter what media says). I’m not watching Oprah (or buying her stuff) and I’m not voting for BO.

If BO becomes president there will be little change in how things are done in Washington.

Just checking in. I wrote my own letter to the Ladies in Waiting–not as eloquent as what I’ve read today on the blog, but at least I DID SOMETHING!!!

a portion:
Dear Senator,

As a woman who has suffered a few bumps on her own head from that glass ceiling, I am appalled that you could not find words to defend Senator Hillary Clinton, when asked about her mistreatment by the media, in your appearance on MSNBC.

Hillary Clinton was ridiculed for showing emotion before the New Hampshire primary. Yet, had a man shown a tear, he would have endeared himself to millions for his sensitivity. Instead, our media depicted it as a calculated ploy to appear human, or to win votes. Day after day we heard the media belittle her for that moment. Where were you when that happened?

When Hillary Clinton was still fighting so hard for her candidacy, and there were still important primaries to go, the men (and some women) in the Democratic Party chided her attempts to climb that mountain of contests and practically stomped on her fingers to make her fall off. WHERE WERE YOU? Were you one of those shouting for her to drop out?

When it was clear Hillary Clinton had won IMPORTANT primaries and was actually gaining strength and drawing in important demographics, while her opponent was beginning to falter, the media attacked her further and demanded an end to what they perceived as a charade. WHERE WERE YOU?

When Senator Obama’s supporters were permitted to denigrate her supporters in public conventions by using the filthiest of vulgarities—aimed only at women—and Senator Obama made no effort to stop that, WHERE WERE YOU? The public ridicule of Hillary Clinton by his supporters continues today at the mention of her name, with booing and obscenities. WHERE ARE YOU?

Now you seek my support of a man who is clearly a ruthless, ambitious, false prophet, who “preaches” rather than proposes doable and well-thought out actions. You seek my money and support of a man who has barely served in the Senate of the United States Congress at a time when our country is in dire need of an experienced and compassionate leader. WHAT ARE YOU THINKING? WHERE ARE YOU? Obviously, I know where you are. Do you know where I am?

Not with you…………By your silence, you have betrayed women everywhere.
Not with the Democratic Party……..They have fallen out of our reality.

Sincerely,

#71 This morning’s paper said that McCain announced a plan to oopen the California coast to oil drilling! Maybe this was already discussed here yesterday, I am seeing it for the first time today. As McCain courts the women voters, he might also want to consider those of us who happen to also be environmentally sensitive. I wish he (or anyone) would come up with a plan to deal with price gouging by oil companies instead of a plan to drill off the coast. Schwarzenegger is actually the one sounding like a moderate Republican on this issue. Oh, if only HE could run for pres.

Last night Lou Dobbs interviewed a member of the congressional Hispanic Caucus. I didn’t get the congressman’s first name, but his last name was Cuellar and he is a Democrat from Texas. Lou began by saying that Hillary had taken the Hispanic vote in the primaries by a 2-to-1 margin. Rep. Cuellar said that Obama had requested a meeting with the Hispanic Caucus and that he had “listened” to their concerns. But Rep. Cuellar warned that “Obama should not take the Hispanic vote for granted”. Cuellar repeated that warning several times throughout the interview with Dobbs.

At one point, Dobbs played a video of Obama saying that he leads among Hispanic voters by “35%”. Dobbs asked Cuellar if that’s true. Cuellar replied that the polls show one thing, but what he is hearing “on the streets” is something different! At no time did Rep. Cuellar indicate that the Congressional Hispanic Caucus would endorse Obama.

IF YOU SPEAK SPANISH, you might want to contact Rep. Cuellar and other members of the Hispanic Caucus and urge them NOT to endorse Obama. Hillary’s Latino supporters are NOT required to vote for Obama! There are other options out there! Let them know about PUMA Pac and tell them there is still a huge group of people who are out here working on Hillary’s behalf.

If Bush can’t push it through then I’m not worried. I don’t know what McCain’s trying to do but he needs to be more careful with the stuff he says or he’s going to lose my vote and I have to go 3rd party. :-(

************
Correct me if I am wrong, but aren’t some of the same people on the Credentials Committee that is due to meet on the first day of the August Convention?

It is at that meeting, that Hillary (and her legal team) can bring up Florida and Michigan will once again, and try to get the FULL delegate vote to 100%.

Now, the tricky part of that is, BHO is now the head of the party and will have *control* over that meeting also. So my guess is that he will try to come out as the Party’s Unifier and seat Florida and Michigan to their rightful 100%. In other words, he will try to take all the create instead of giving it to Hillary. Or, he may just try to block their full 100% voting capabilities. IOW, they will still be seated but with the current 1/2 vote.

So here’s the thing, as I see it. If they are fully seated at 100% vote, it is possible for them to cast their vote for Hillary on the first ballot of the Convention Roll Call; and THAT is why BHO is trying to redo the rules to prevent that first roll call in Hillary’s favor. WDYT?

Note: It is my understanding, that on the 1st roll call vote, the PLEDGED delegates should be bound to vote according to how their state voted. If they don’t they might anger their voters should any be up for reelection. Still, even pledged delegates are entitled to vote their conscience and/or to switch their vote. That could go either way depending upon what happens from now till then. BHO delegates can switch back to Hillary; or Hillary’s delegates can vote for BHO. At what point in the Convention that happens, I do not know. Matter of fact, I don’t know anything anymore because this man is *changing* all the rules to favor himself. Wel… at least we now know what change really means—hey.

Bottom line here is, besides writing to the SuperDelegates, PUMA should also be writing to the PLEDGED DELEGATES AS WELL.

You should also know the following:

- 1st day: Credentials Meeting
- 2nd Day: Presidential Nomination Vote
- 3rd Day: Vice Presidential Nomination Vote

Note: Lonny Davis has been pushing for the VP slot. Think this the url of the web site he is promoting.

The thought of the day is off base. The speculators on Wall St. like George Soros are to blame for the high oil prices.along with Greenspan and Bernancke in hyperinflating the financial system. It is racism to think that the Arabs are to blame.

Blaming the Arabs for high oil prices is like blaming farmers for high food prices. We need to take our thinking to a higher level than this. The financial system is disintegrating.

Here’s my letter to Senator Boxer, et al:

I am a life-long Democrat and a supporter of Senator Hillary Clinton. Like many of my fellow Clinton supporters, I view your “Checklist for Change” as a blatant attempt to pander to women voters who have withdrawn their support from the DNC in response to the appointment of Senator Obama as the Presumptive Nominee.

I am gratified, and welcome your pandering. At the same time, I am weary of politicians and pundits telling me what’s important. If you’d like to pander, please address MY concerns. The following is my personal 10-item”Checklist for Change”.

1. I demand that the DNC and Senator Obama apologize for their complicit silence and implicit condoning of the vile misogyny that Senator Clinton was subjected to throughout her campaign;
2. I demand that the DNC denounce and rectify the strategy of suppression of Democratic votes in Florida and Michigan, votes that were cast in good faith by a record number of primary voters;
3. I demand an investigation into the legality of the DNC’s RBC decision of May 31, 2008;
4. I demand that my elected representatives abide by the will of their constituents as they choose which candidate to endorse as the DNC nominee;
5. I demand that superdelegates honor the voices of the 18 million who have called for Senator Clinton;
6. I demand that my representatives stop buying into Senator Obama’s “McSame” false debate, and start asking the more meaningful question: what is the real potential for success of the implementation of Obama’s stated positions and plans?
7. I demand that my elected representatives assume responsibility for stewardship of the will of the people and the well-being of our nation. We deserve a candidate who represents excellence, possesses an outstanding combination of skill and potential, and demonstrates an ability to cope with complexity
8. I demand that my representatives speak out against the appropriation and misuse of the issue of race by Senator Obama and his supporters. The issue of race continues to be used as a weapon to ostracize, silence, and marginalize Democrats and others who raise legitimate concerns regarding Obama’s candidacy.
9. I demand that the DNC and Obama campaign stop insulting our intelligence by resorting to Rovian fear tactics – Roe v. Wade, 100 years of war – to undermine the resolve of those of us who are determined to use the power of our votes in a way that is personally meaningful.
10. Don’t buy into the inaccurate characterization of Clinton supporters as “hurt”, “angry” and “frustrated”. We are OUTRAGED and we are called to action.

Respectfully yours,

Here’s the letter I just sent to Senator Boxer:

Dear Senator Boxer —

I doubt you will be the one to read this email but I want to make the effort to let you know that I have been a loyal democrat all of my adult life. I am 52 years of age and have never before witnessed the intense injustices of the Democratic party that I have seen this year.

I want you to consider that Senator Clinton won California in the primaries and these same Californians are the ones responsible for electing and re-electing you into your current position.

I’ve been reading that Senator Obama with the help of the DNC (which he controls) is planning to remove Hillary Clinton’s name from the ballot at the DNC Convention in August. What is going on with this Democratic party? The one thing missing is the original concept of democracy. Last time I looked, Senator Obama was only a presumptive nominee, yet he already has the power to trample on the rights of the voters when his influence on the DNC’s decision for Florida and Michigan were blatantly obvious. And now he’s planning to remove Clinton from the ballot along with any delegates that want to vote for her? When he succeeds in bullying his competition out and is the only choice, is that really a democracy?

If he is capable of doing this damage to the country BEFORE he is even elected to the most powerful position in this country, then I certainly don’t want to give him the opportunity to get to that position. My vote will be for McCain in November. No amount of Obama tactics to throw Roe v. Wade in my face will change my mind. No amount of media propaganda that claims I am a sore loser, or a racist will change my mind. My mind is made up because the truth is Senator Obama is unqualified and I do not feel safe in giving this man more power.

You Senator Boxer, along with all other Senators in this great country, still have the choice to do the right thing. It’s as simple as saying NO to Obama. It’s as simple as standing behind Senator Clinton. It’s as simple as DOING THE RIGHT THING. The voters will back you up if you choose wisely. We always have a choice. All of us always have a choice. I would like to see our ELECTED officials start to choose wisely and reflect their constituents.

Sincerely,
Mara Zebest

#137 Susie1945 on 06.19.08 at 1:52 pm

BTW letter writers – as I was submitting my letters I started getting them bounced back – so since Amy Klobuchar is my senator – I added a ps saying that I noticed my letters were being ignored since I didn’t live in California, etc. and that perhaps she should remind her fellow senators that their title is United States Senator not state senator and that I would be sending the letters via snail mail…………..jus sayin’

#138 tatepuma on 06.19.08 at 1:54 pm

#29, MPK– it amazes me that people are more concerned about Supreme Court judges than about the welfare of this nation, can’t undertsatnd the logic but I would assume that these people were going to vote for “O” from the beginning.

It is also amazing how Mrs. O is getting all of this perferential treatment and Hillary was dissed and she is a former first lady, a prominent Senator. They truly want the Clintons out of the picture and to handle that task so unkindly is down right shameful. I feel Hillary’s pain but she has to do what she has to do.

It will not be hard for me to pull the lever for Senator McCain because of the injustice that the democratic party has committed, I am not angry and not bitter, I see Senator Mccain as the lesser of two evils, I might not agree with all of his thinking but at least I know that he is patriotic, I think the other guy is too far gone to the dark side and only has his and those on the dark side interests at heart. I am with Rev manning, maybe my vote will hinder evil from living in the WH.

I’ve vented for today, I will focus back on work! Make today great Pumas. The letters are just lovely and to the point. Hopefully the Ten Stepford Women will get the message, we don’t want to be transformed, we want the freedom to choose the candidate.

I heard McCain was thinking about allowing drilling for oil here in the US also. He said something like since oil spills were less common now because of advances in Science(or something like that, I’m really paraphrasing now) he felt it safe enough and I suppose he is also concerned with Americas need right now to be independent from price gouging from foreign sources. I think we need to find other ways to get energy – advancing more in sun and wind power. This drilling for oil (a depleteble resource) is going to cause controversy.

#140 SunnyPA on 06.19.08 at 2:05 pm

Is it me … or does that “checklist for change” sound an awful like like what the democrats were going to do in the first 100 days of taking the majority in congress.

How did that work out?

Our democratic majority congress has an approval rating lower than Bush. Hmmm, and we are supposed to do what?!?!? Believe this time it will be different and take their word for it.

Maybe we can remind congress of the changes we’ve yet to achieve from two years ago.

post #138 – 67% of the population is for offshore drilling, as well as, using Alaskan resources. I’m sure if that percentage holds, nobama will flip-flop on his position.

#141 droc on 06.19.08 at 2:06 pm

Susy T It is not a matter of opinion that the high oil prices are due to speculationin a hyperinflted and bankrupt financial system, it is a provable reality.

Your “thought of the day” is typical of the impotent, populist mind set in much of the population. The Arabs are not to blame for the high oil prices. Nor are the Chinese or Indians to blame either.

In the meamtime, taking back the Democratic Party means naming the names of those who hijacked it. George Soros, Felix Rohatyn, et al. own Pelosi, Reid, Nobama, and Dean.

#142 webfoot on 06.19.08 at 2:11 pm

Our local paper, the Everett Herald, ran an article on the tanker issue (which I won’t get into here). The point, for our sake as PUMAs is that they ran the full quote of what McCain said and for BO only gave three words of what he said. In addition, they referred to McCain as “the presumptive Republican nominee for president.” BO was referred to as the “Democratic presidential nominee-in-waiting.” This article is the first one in which he has been referred to as something other than the “presumptive nominee.” Progress for the PUMAs perhaps? Are some in the media beginning to question that the DNC can select, not elect, the nominee?

#144 headoverhills on 06.19.08 at 2:15 pm

#138 – I agree, something must be done. The worst part is that inspite of the price per barrell of oil, the oil companies are raking in record multi-billion $ profits. It seems that the higher the oil price, the more profit they make. If they voluntarily kept the gas-at-the-price pump lower – say at $3 a tank, the oil companies would STILL earn record profits… just not as much as they are with $4 a gallon.

My understanding is he opening up exploration IF a state wants it. That it would be up to the state itself. I too am concerned about that. I know a lot of repubs are not happy with McCain, saying he is too liberal too enviormently friendly. So maybe he is pandering to them.

We must come up with something progressive. Is that the best we humans can do…drill, drill, drill. Been there, done that. Where are the great thinkers?

#150 TrishfromCanada on 06.19.08 at 2:25 pm

I was wondering if someone could explain the public financing to me, we don’t have that in Canada. Because it’s hard to get unbiased information on it from the net. But correct me if i’m wrong, what I am understanding it to be, is that the candidates give in anything the raised and have not yet spent during th eprimaries. And then they use public financing for the 86 or so million dollars.

If I understand it correctly then I see why Obama would back out of the deal, beacause he has a major slump with raising money right now. I’m not agreeing that it is the right thing to do I’m saying I see why he is doing it, if I am right on my understanding of it.

So, if someone has a few minutes to explain it, in very simple terms, I’d greatly appreciate it.

But based on the news reports that Obama’s first lot of money that advanced him so quickly in funds at the beginning of the primaries, was from donations by Republicans so they would not have to tango with Hillary, then I bet these republicans are kicking themselves in the backside right now.

Because yes, McCain is friends with Hillary, however, he’s not exactly innocent in Obama becoming the powerforce of the DNC. It was dirty politics on both sides.

Ok got that vent out, I really just want to understand public financing better so when I discuss/argue it with my friends later, I sound like I am informed.

#90susie1945 just got your letter that so many PUMAs have raved about. Wow! You nailed it. When I was hired by the feds in the late 70’s I was told by some men that I was hired because it was “bra and panties time.” Yes, that comment was actually said. My daughter (college age) gets what has happened to Hillary because I have told her about all the glass ceilings I had to break through (I was one of four women in my occupation in the entire state). As I told my husband, we had to be BETTER than the men; we couldn’t just be as good as them. And we were (not bragging, just a statement of fact). And Hillary is BETTER than BO. There are some men that just can’t handle it. I thought these battles had been fought thirty years ago. Apparently women have to keep fighting them. So, when we get a generation that is so far removed from the battles that some of us fought they truly don’t understand what we are talking about.

Drilling … environment … oil prices … none of which nobama truly understands. None of which can be decided by a president of the united states … if that were the case, the ban would have been lifted.

Our cause is to regain control of our party, so that our voices will be heard on those issues. As for now, debating those issues on this blog will not accomplish our tasks.

Several people were going out this weekend to post fliers. How many others are posting fliers? Has anyone checked back to see if the pull-off tabs were gone?

My husband saw a car running on water in Japan on Fox News the other day. He then tells me this, a friend of his dads invented a boat that runs on sea water. What happened to this guy? He lives on a private island outside of Greece somewhere that he bought with the money MOBIL OIL gave him for the patten!

About this car in Japan, you can use any water and I think it gets millions of miles to the gallon. Running low? Pull out that bottle of Fiji from the gym bag and

With regards to offshore oil drilling, I’m thinking that we can’t have our cake and eat it too. We want to sever our dependency on foreign oil and all the garbage that goes along with holding their hands but not willing to touch our own territory for fear of oil spills or what not. I agree that we must look at other alternatives such as solar and wind energy for the long term. I lived in Japan for 4 years and during that time, I remember the Japanese buying tons of lumber from places like Indonesia, Vietnam, etc.. Literally, they were stripping forests of these countries. When environmentalists called the Japanese government on it, their response was “the wood in Japan is sacred and scarce.” What kind of bs is that? My point is, we can’t be all about protecting our coastal backyard AND be expecting to bid farewell to foreign oil dependency –not anytime soon anyway.

#178 A-Will on 06.19.08 at 2:55 pm

Below is my letter to Senator Patty Murray, from my home state. Most of the rest were similar, with a slight variation for Senator Mikulski. The article below shows that Senator Mikulski did, in fact, speak out against the media’s coverage of Senator Clinton. Therefore, I was careful to thank her for that, but also to hold her accountable for her actions now with the DNP.

http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/05/08/senator-mikulski-criticizes-media/

Senator Murray,

I am a well-educated professional, as well as a loyal Senator Clinton supporter. I am disappointed and saddened to hear that you have abandoned Senator Clinton and all that she stands for and are working to “unify” those of us who support her to back Senator Obama. I believe my comments below will help you understand why Senator’s Obama’s attempts at unity within the Democratic National Party (DNP) have failed and will continue to fail. This fact should greatly concern you, as one of his very few attributes that he purportedly brought to his nomination was his ability to “unify” the American people. As is being demonstrated right before your eyes he cannot even unify his own party, let alone the entire nation. Acknowledging his failure, the DNP is now seeking your assistance in this endeavor. Senator Obama’s inexperience in the national political arena explains, in part, his inability mobilize the party.

We, as Americans, believe passionately in a free, open, and fair democratic process to nominate the Party’s strongest candidate to go against the opposition in the general election. That process was not followed by the DNP; indeed, it was desecrated time and again by the media, the DNP, and Senator Obama’s campaign to hand-select the nominee they wanted. Senator Clinton, a respected two-term Senator and former first lady, and her supporters were forced to endure caustic, sexist, and hate-filled comments throughout the primaries. The DNP’s and Senator Obama’s campaign’s deafening silence in opposition to this conduct by the media and Senator Obama’s supporters gave it weight and acceptance as a norm.

Your silence during the primary race and your and attempts now to gain our support for Senator Obama allow this pervasive sexism to continue and sets women’s progress back 50 years. This was the most vile, misogynistic campaign we have ever seen against a woman.

While free speech is a right bestowed upon every American, responsible speech was vital to maintaining the Party’s unity. The DNP and Senator Obama’s campaign were given a multitude of opportunities throughout the primary season to provide leadership and stop the hateful and sexist comments in order to maintain party unity. This is particularly true for Senator Obama, whose actions will represent the nation on an international scale, should he win the general election. His conduct is not what I would deem “presidential.” I do not believe it is in our country’s best interests to have a president who would condone, let alone participate in sexist, hateful, and divisive remarks and behavior. Senator Obama and the DNP chose to allow the behavior to continue, and did so to their detriment. Their choice has left millions of us wondering what kind of party would allow such divisiveness to penetrate and alienate its core constituencies when this is such a crucial year for the DNP as it seeks to regain the White House.

You and your female colleagues have now organized a unified front to gain Senator Clinton’s supporters. Where was this unified front as she was being attacked, vilified, and splayed for the world to see during the primaries? Where was your support for the female voters who supported you and supported her? I will stand and vote for individuals who stand by their convictions and have a backbone. I will not vote for individuals who allow themselves to be manipulated “for the good of the party,” because I support Senator Clinton for the good of the nation. There are many in Congress out there who continue to stand by her because she is the most qualified person to be the democratic nominee. Rest assured they will have the support of the 18 million of us who support Senator Clinton.

I urge you to reconsider your position, and I ask that you not to change your superdelegate vote to Senator Obama. He already has the requisite number of delegates to secure the nomination. Changing your vote at the convention to support Senator Obama is not required, but instead clearly signals those of us who support Senator Clinton that you have abandoned us, as has the DNP.

As stated in Ronald Reagan’s immortal words in 1962, “I didn’t leave the Democratic Party. The party left me.”

Thank you for your time.

Respectfully,

A Will
PUMA Democrat

#150 Trish, This is a quicky explanation of public financing. Under federal law, matching funds are provided to candidates in the primary and general election. Both Hillary and BO declined public financing in the primary – because if you accept those funds, you also must accept limits on SPENDING (spending, in my view, is one of the biggest problems in campaign finance). Anyhoo, once you get to the general election, the candidate (who accepts public finance) will receive a flat grant ($86 million or therabouts – this money is raised through a voluntary tax-checkoff on our federal income tax form so the amount fluctuates from year to year). The catch is this: If you accept public financing then you must agree NOT to raise any other money (except for administrative and legal expensives). Public financing was conceived of as a way to equalize the playing field so that non-wealthy individuals could also compete in presidential races. It gives “equality” to people of lower financial means and allows everyone to compete on the same footing. It is especially beneficial for any candidate who might have difficulty raising money. Before this year, EVERY candidate opted to take it because nobody had ever raised the kind of money we’re talking about this year. By accepting public financing you don’t have to use your campaign apparatus to raise money — you are guaranteed this money. I don’t think anybody ever expected to see this kind of money being raised – it’s record breaking. But if you are able to raise vasts sums of money, or believe you can raise more than what is in the public financing coffers, it wouldn’t really make sense to accept it. In other words, I don’t think he’s refusing public financing because he’s in a slump right now – but rather because he thinks he can do better than that (!!!). It is amazing to me that anyone could possibly think they can raise more than $86 million – but apparently, that is what BO believes, otherwise, he wouldn’t turn it down. If he can’t raise that amount, he will have screwed himself. I don’t have a clue how much money he has raised thusfar, but my guess is that he thinks he can come close enough to $86 million that he doesn’t need public finance. If it were me, I’d want the money just so I didn’t have to spend the time doing fundraising. He must actually believe he will raise in excess of that amount – otherwise this just doesn’t make ANY sense to me!

#185 Taffy on 06.19.08 at 3:01 pm

For the tech savvy people out there: is there a way to start a list of true “him” supporters (ones who just drank the kool aid), and those who were forced too? Example: I live in Colorado. I wrote Perlmutter asking why he endorsed “him” a couple of months ago. His written response was along the lines of “I like his ideas” but he couldn’t give me a specific one. (He was also rude to me at the senate district convention). I will vote against him in the election coming up. He’s a true supporter. Now Gov. Rendell did not want to endorse him but was forced to. He needs to be looked at according to his merits when his re-election comes up. So we are dealing with 2 different groups of people. I think we should really target the kool aid drinkers and not go as hard on those forced. I bring this up because of Obama’s meeting with the Hispanic group in Washington. They are being pressured that if they don’t go along they will have a tough time in Congress. The tough style politics can be hard on the smaller groups. We need to know who the true DNC destroyers are. It’s hard to keep sorting through the huge lists and figuring out. IMO Edwards and Richardson definitely belong to Kool aid kids group!

#178 A-WILL A big thank you for your letter!!! So many good ones today!! I wish Hillary could read them so she can see how passionate and how much support

Ok thank you, got it now. Obama claims to have raised 236 million as of April 30, 2008. However he has not stated how much he raised in May yet. My question now is , I understand he cannot use money raised in the primary for the general election, is this correct?

I can create an excel spreadsheet and enter the data. It would be easy to do, I’d just need to know who is a true supporter and who isn’t.

#192 headoverhills on 06.19.08 at 3:09 pm

#183 – WOWZA, I had no idea! And here I was thinking he’d be LUCKY to raise $86 million. He has to raise separate funds for the general. Did John McCain accept pubic financing? I remember there was an issue with him and the FEC during the primary, but I can’t recall the specifics.

#193 SunnyPA on 06.19.08 at 3:09 pm

There does seem to be a media climate change regarding nobama the last couple of days… not as much “rah, rah”. And Gore’s endorsement seems to have almost been forgotten.

#201 NeverMore on 06.19.08 at 3:13 pm

Hi fellow PUMAs,
This is my first post on the site although since I joined a week ago, I visit it daily to see what everyone is saying. I’m a 58 year old, Black NJ woman and a strong Hillary fan (although even stronger Bill fan) :>) I’ve suffered through the primaries witnessing the disloyalty of the DNC, the disgraceful, disrespectful, unabashed bias of the media and pollsters, the blind ignorance of my fellow AAs supporting an egotistical, arrogant, cocky, inexperienced, upstart just because he’s Black – and I’m very, very angry.

I think what makes me angrier than anything however, is the O-nuts, DNC, pundits, pollsters and media really believing and reporting that this anger will pass and come November we’ll all line up like good little soldiers and fight for “Precious” to be king. NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!!! The week following Hillary’s exit, I re-registered as an Independent after 30+ years as a loyal Democrat. And you know what? It was EASY to do.

I’d like to suggest a way to really let the DNC know what they’re up against in November. They’re so proud that voter registration is up since Precious started his campaign and everyone is so-o-o-o excited over this donkey. If we all started re-registering as Independents, they wouldn’t have so much to brag about regarding increasing membership in the DNC, if they’re losing members at the same time. Just a thought. I can tell you I just feel a whole lot better about the situation knowing that I’m not associated with the UN- Democratic Party any longer. And yes, I’ll be voting for McCain this fall.

If your letters are getting bounced through the email form, there is also the option to fax them, if you have access to a fax machine.

(I’d still add the ps saying that your letters to senators not in your state were being ignored since you didn’t live in their state and that perhaps she should remind her fellow senators that their title is “United States Senator” not “state senator.” I might or might not add that you were going to fax or snail mail them – not sure about this ’cause she might ignore conveying your message if she thinks you’re just going to use another method to reach them).

There was a posting last night w/detailed contact info for the 10 women senators, including their fax #’s.

good afternoon PUMAS.

I have been busy all day, but I just wrte this on FOX News, regarding Obama’s decision of not accepting public funding for his “campaign”

I hope all Republicans unite this year to defeat Obama. No matter if some Republicans do not like him, I believe that McCain is the only option we have to avoid Obama stealing the presidency the way he has stolen the nomination. I am an Independent myself who could have never thought of voting Republican ( I have always voted Dems) but this year I identify myself more with McCain being a Hillary supporter. I pray that people in the Republican Party will get united to defeat Obama, because oir country does not deserve to have him as president. He has divided not only the party but the country as well, has used typical divisive strategies to steal the nomination, has ignored the will of millions of Americans, has done everything in his power not to count FL and MI votes, and is using a very divisive strategy to divide the Republican party and turn it against McCain.
No human being is perfect, but McCain has proven to be concerned for the future of this country. Obama has shown he would do and say whatever to obtain what he wants more: his political ambition of becoming president.
It is time for us to stop this man from dividing the country. Vote for McCain as the only way of avoiding a political catastrophe.
I hope you all will listen.
Respectfully,
Oscar P.
Miami, FL

—————————————————-
We are trying hard to make justice and reinstate Hillary, but we should also pay attention to the division within the Republican Party. We should also tell them that they need to get united and vote for McCain to stop this political suicide.

This is why I’m confused, so many have also alluded to things being stolen. So why isn’t Obama in jail? He didn’t stand up as a man and say that since he wasn’t on the ballot he shouldn’t have had any votes, then there’s the fact that he recieved stolen votes from Hillary and didn’t say no to that either, and lets not forget that he made it, that a vote only counted as half, so please tell me why he’s not in jail for theft or at the very least abetting crimainals who did the stealing? “NO THIEF FOR CHIEF”

BUT, this lifelong knee-jerk liberal sncc fundraising ban the bomb VISTA volunteer who has demonstrated for, marched with, and supported civil rights (black, women’s, gay/lesbian/native american, etc.) will be voting for McCain come November.
They’re all pandering for votes now… I’m ignoring the talk and paying attention to the walk. I might think about Democrats in 2012, but only if certain conditions have been met.

He also didn’t object when Kennedy, Kerry and others ignored the votes of the people of their states and supported him, even though he lost miserably in some of those states.

….Reeks of hypocrisy and lack of integrity! Great “character” this guy’s got.

#224 oscarp on 06.19.08 at 3:31 pm

tree, there are so many thieves who are not in jail! But only because Obama is not in jail, it doesn’t mean he is not a thief. Obama used the most divisive techniques to divide the country, used the DNC envy towards Hillary to get where he is now. Obama stole the nomination because the will of 18 million Americans does not reflect him as the nominee, and yet, he is the one being nominated. Time will show the real Obama, no matter what will happen, how much make up they apply to Michelle Obama, no matter how many times Obama tries to change his skin, the real Obama will surface as it has in the past. A lie can be maintained for some time, not forever. The same people that have covered his lies will uncover them when they feel pressed to do it, just give it some time.
There is no need for him to go to jail, because he is living in a permanent jail that he himself created with all the political tactics he has used to divide the country. What could be worse than knowing that you have been selected, not elected by the same people he proclaims to be representing. How someone can be happy running to become president when 18 million people have decided that we don’t want him for president? That is worse than staying in jail.

The DCCC is also getting help from Obama. The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee sent out his first fundraising e-mail solicitation for the committee on Wednesday.

“America, this is our moment. This is our time. Our time to turn the page on the policies of the past. Our time to bring new energy and new ideas to the challenges we face. Our time to offer a new direction for the country we love,” Obama said in his e-mail.

“You and I are clear about our goal. We are out to change Washington in a deep and lasting way, charting a new course for America. That means winning the White House. But it also means building a strong foundation in Congress by electing dozens of new, change-oriented candidates nationwide.”

I don’t think I’ll get a request since I unsubscribed to the DNC – darn – I so wanted to send it back with a message……………………

The scoop from Washington
June 19, 2008

News organizations complain about being misled by Obama campaign.

Hat tip to Ben Smith at The Politico LINK for obtaining a letter to the Obama campaign from six Washington Bureau Chiefs, including the NBC’s late Tim Russert, complaining about being misled by the Obama campaign. The bottom line: reporters paying a lot of money to travel with Obama were misled about him being on the plane with them. “Each of our organizations is reviewing whether we will reimburse the campaign for last night’s flight,” the letter said.

I don’t know if anyone saw this on TV this morning, can’t remember what channel it was on….but Ed Rendell (PA) was interviewed (think it was Fox, but not positive) about throwing his support to Obama after being fervent Hillary supporter.

He said, “Yeah, when I go to an event for Obama I’m greeted with former Hillary supporters with packets of Kool-Aid for me. They think I’m taking the Kool-Aid and now I think Obama is the greatest thing in the whole world (or something to that effect about how great the Kool-Aid drinkers think Obama is).

When the interviewer said people were saying he was being considered for Obama’s VP andcould be a very likely choice, Rendell almost fell over himself DENYING that, couldn’t think of enough reasons he WASN’T suitable for the job! Politely, but it was looked to me he was totally freaking at the very thought. I got a chuckle from that.

Thank you TrishfromCanada: I’ve been here everyday since the initial Hillary Clinton Supporters Count Too. Just don’t post much initally, but will start more now.

I am a Hillary supporter. I honestly believe she is the best candidate we have that will actually effectively provide the change we crave in a balanced and fiscal responsible manner. She has the capacity to take on all the stuff that has been hurdled at her over the years and still emerge and bright, powerful compassionate woman who is more than capable to be our President. She has my vote 100 percent.

My opinion on Obama is not based on his color, but the “content of his character”.

My take on Obama is that he is naive, uses rhetorical deception, bought and paid for, pliable by other dominants and merely a puppet candidate, condescending, contemptuous and out of touch with middle America, appeasing, too engaged with Marxist intellectual elites, and I question his patriotism and emotional connection to this country and ALL the people who built it. He is very defensive when challenged on any subject, and he is vague and runs the election process as a personality contest; weak on specifics, strong on rhetoric and demonstrates to me a passive aggressive attitude to just about everything. He is not someone I would want as a acquaintance much less a President with his condescending attitude.

I will vote for McCain over Obama. My vote McCain is frankly based on the fact that I know he has the best interest of this country at heart, even though I disagree with him on most issues. I do not feel that way about Obama. I know he is saying what we all want to hear, but as for me, I just flat out don’t trust him. He will never get my vote..

I am not just angry that Hillary hasn’t gotten the nomination yet, although I am angry at how she has been treated by the DNC and the media. Very angry. I am angry enough to have trashed everything they have sent me this year and will not contribute to them ever again. Frankly, I’ve just left the DNC period. I am angry that the DNC is so willing to put up such a weak and questionable candidate for us, and push him down our throats with questionable judgment and disenfranchisement of two full States. If half of us don’t trust this guy, how are we to expect any Republican or other independents to support him?

I will vote Country over Party every single time.

#250 Lin4Hill on 06.19.08 at 3:52 pm

Also, to anyone out there–I’m willing to contribute some $$ for an ad in any major newspaper–though they are expensive. Can we do it? Can we go in with other blogs?

#238 SusieT – what little paragraphs? I didn’t see this. where is this from? i’m guessing that he’s referring to trying to get some new Dems elected to replace some of the retiring republicans. he would never, ever try to get rid of the old dems who are up for re-election, there would be a mutiny so fast our heads would spin. i work in the Senate for the Democratic Caucus and the mission is to protect the incumbent… no party leader could survive a minute if they didn’t do everything in their power to make sure they were protected. My guess is that he’s just talking about trying to pick up the new seats being vacated by republicans. still, it’s another reason to stay focused and be ever diligent about watching what they are doing.

CTKEY be sure to check. Most states don’t allow Indes to vote in primaries. If I lived in MA I would definitely want to be able to vote against Kerry!!!! I have some here I want to vote against in our Aug 15th primary and I can’t do that as an Inde. I think part of the goal of this group should be to get the caucuses removed from the states. It has to be a ballot initiative. It’s too late to submit one for the Colorado ballot in Nov. I’ve already checked. But it is on my to do list to find out how to get it on the 2010 ballot. We need to make all states primary states. I called the Democratic Party 2 months ago and it is decided by each state. So it has to be a state by state action. With all the people meeting up here we could form state groups in caucus states and know we already have supporters to start the grass roots operations. Heaven forbid “he” gets in but if “he” does we will be ready for 2012!

Blitzer: How active will Bill Clinton be on the trail for Obama?
WASHINGTON (CNN) – Bill and Hillary Clinton attended the memorial service for Tim Russert at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington on Thursday. That was the first time I have seen them since Senator Clinton dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Barack Obama. She was very enthusiastic that day. It dawned on me yesterday that we still haven’t heard the former President formally endorse Senator Obama. I am sure he will be on the Obama bandwagon openly and energetically fairly soon. But I wonder what’s taking so long. Then again, is it really all that long?

Dear Puma Friends,

Below is the message I just sent to John McCain, with a copy to the RNC.

I’m concentrating my efforts in a slightly different direction than many of you today. I want to put daily pressure on Obama to do the weekly town hall meetings that John McCain keeps calling for. The best way to defeat Obama is to let him trip himself up. I think backing him into a corner and forcing him to debate John McCain is the answer.

I sympathize with everyone’s frustrations regarding the sexism and the DNC’s unethical conduct. But I don’t think the DNC, the media, or anyone else really cares. I’ve spent the last two years fighting my own battle against my County’s illegal and bad-faith conduct in a Workers’ Comp claim. I’ve written to every county, state, and federal official I can think of. No one will help me. No one cares. So I’ve become quite jaded in my view of government.

I support all of you in venting your frustration, and I’m glad that you’re writing the letters that you are. But I also hope that some of you will join me in putting pressure on Obama regarding the debates. It may be our best weapon now.

Enjoy …

Dear Senator McCain,

I think you’re letting Senator Obama off the hook far too easily when it comes to the weekly town hall meetings you’ve suggested.

If I were a member of your campaign staff, I’d design a television commercial that goes something like this: It would begin with several video clips of Senator Obama saying “I welcome that debate with John McCain.” Then the unseen narrator would say, “Then why won’t Senator Obama agree to weekly town hall meetings with John McCain? Perhaps he’s afraid of debating John McCain, afraid that voters will see there’s little substance behind the rhetoric. Perhaps Senator Obama is just plain dismissive of voters who want to hear those debates. Perhaps Senator Obama just isn’t a man of his word.”

Then I’d follow with several clips of Obama talking about bipartisanship and how he will reach across the aisle, after which the unseen narrator would say, “Then why won’t Senator Obama reach out across his campaign platform to Senator McCain (and voters nationwide) for the weekly town hall meetings everyone wants to see? Perhaps Senator Obama is not as bipartisan as he would like us to believe. Perhaps Senator Obama just isn’t a man of his word. Is this a man you want for your next President? Vote John McCain.”

A suggestion:

I think it would be a good idea to also notify the media once we’ve sent a healthy # of rounds of 1000 reason emails. You can prepare a list of states, towns, not necessarily copies of the indivual emails, just summaries perhaps….(they could be available to media for inspection, but not to be publically released to protect peoples’ privacy).

It’s easy for Pelosi and Dean to ignore they’re being swamped with protests…..but if the media gets a hold of the idea and starts asking them about it in interviews, then two great things happen:

1). The word gets out that we’re making lists too (how nice is that, given the 10 senators little photo op yesterday) and we’ve got A LOT of reasons why we’re against BO so pretty unlikely we’ll be jumping on the Kool-Aid express anytime soon.

2). They can’t deny to their underlings, other Reps. and Senators, DNC people, etc., that there’s a lot of resistence to BO out there and it just might hurt them in their own races and the in general election. We can start expressing how unhappy we are with Sen. Kerry, despite his long-term status as D-Sen-MA – (and how we’re going to work to help opponents of these guys). In Kerry’s case we can also mention we didn’t like his ageist remarks about Sen. McCain, a very able, competent, well-respected and honorable man – trying to imply McCain was senile and losing his marbles was offensive to us and unbecoming a supposedly distinquished Sen like Kerry (we want a new kind of politics – not the same old cheap shots and smear campaigns of the past). Kerry’s comment was an insult to all elderly people. Remember also the AARP is one of the most powerful lobbying groups in America and they have one HUGE mailing list. The can protest “Ageism” without taking sides…We all know who’s the target if the civil rights violation is ageism.

If the press starts bringing up that people are protesting his remarks about McCain being senile, he’ll still have to deny that he meant it which still attaches him to the remarks and reflects his hypocrisy. It was a very low, cheap shot Kerry made about McCain. He deserves to be called on it. First they attack Hillary because she’s a woman. Then they go after McCain because he older. I call that despicable.

I’d first release info to media outlets that are remaining a little more professional and unbiased, and then if we contact others we do it later so they’re behind the ball, late to find out what’s happening and late to cover it.

Just an idea…..But I think it would be a good idea that information regarding anything we do that shows organized and concerted effort be provided to third parties, ie. the media, at the right time so it can have the most impact, and so our targets can’t ignore our efforts and sweep them under the rug.

The one I find most interesting is on 5/13/08 he finally voted yes to A bill to provide collective bargaining rights for public safety officers employed by States or their political subdivisions. Now aren’t they part of the union that is donating $250,000 to his campaign?

Paula Abeles, you go girl! EXCELLENT.

#300 Taffy on 06.19.08 at 4:33 pm

I pray each day she pulls a Lieberman and leaves Dem party. They don’t deserve her. She would split vote from “him” and McCain and probably get in. And after 8 years in WH she be ready to do her own thing like Bill. That’s part of what makes the McCain group nervous. They know Hillary supporters coming over to him would vanish if she ran against him.

#301 BrooklynNY on 06.19.08 at 4:34 pm

I think – I really really think – we are making an impression and we are finally getting some publicity – PUMA is not mentioned but by god – someone is making our talking points ———-let’s get that newspaper ad – if we can do one, maybe we can do more – billboards cost around $100,000 – that’s alot of money – don’t think newspaper ads cost that much – I’m willing to do whatever is necessary to help with the ad issue – I’m retired – have more time than money -

#304 VA PUMA on 06.19.08 at 4:35 pm

Your comment is awaiting moderation.
I hope that President Clinton WILL NEVER back HBO–Hussein Barack Obama–I like it this way more.

HBO trashed President Clinton big time during the primary, and now he wants help. He did exactly the same thing when he was running for Senate in Illinois. He made sure that he kicked Alice Palmer and other candidates off the ballot, and wanted her to help him in return. It doesn’t work that way. He did everything he possibly could to make sure that Hillary will not win the primary. HE DOESN’T DESERVE ANYTHING!!! I HOPE THAT PRESIDENT CLINTON WILL NOT HELP HIM!!!

#320 headoverhills on 06.19.08 at 4:43 pm

#266 Taffy -Yes, it is up to each state – however, they pass caucus v primary laws at the request of the political parties. That’s why in some states there might be a Democratic primary and a Republican caucus. Ten states hold caucuses, while another seven hold a combination of primaries and caucuses, and the remaining 33 states hold primaries. State legislatures pass laws at the request of the state’s political party on whether to hold primaries or caucuses. In other words, the CA Dem Party asks the state legislature for a primary or caucus law (and determines if it’s a closed or open primary). In the states where one party holds a primary and another a caucus, the party that wants to select delegates by a way than otherwise determined by law must go back to the legislature for a law that permits this. I think this year’s caucuses were especially egregious. Because there was so much interest in the candidates, there was turnout like never before. The caucuses went more smoothly in some states than others. For example, Even though Nevada was a caucus state they had never experienced the kind of interest and enthusiasm and crowds as they did this year. Other states were more organized and able to handle the crowds better. Unfortunately, this may be further evidence that we can accomplish more by working from within the party instead of fleeing from it. Changing the caucus system will only come if the political parties make it happen. Just another reason to get involved at the local central committee level!

I just recently changed my affiliation to “Decline To State”, and got the following information from the Secty of State about voting in primary elections (CA has a “modified” closed primary system):

If you are a voter who has declined to state an affiliation with a political party, you may be able to vote for a candidate of a specific party in the upcoming June 3, 2008 Statewide Direct Primary. You may request, from your county elections official or at your polling place, the ballot of a political party if authorized by the party’s rules and duly noticed by the Secretary of State.

If you do not request such a ballot, you will be given a nonpartisan ballot, containing only the names of all candidates for nonpartisan offices and measures to be voted upon at the primary election.

I had to specifically request a DTS-Dem ballot for the primary we just had on June 3, or I wouldn’t have been able to vote for Pelosi’s opponent!

I still haven’t gotten my new card in the mail yet. Can’t wait to tear up my old Dem registration and mail it to Howie.

Welcome, VA Puma and Nevermore! Being here is like coming home!

#338 headoverhills on 06.19.08 at 4:52 pm

#285 Tree – sorry, with all due respect. DTS couldn’t vote (for President) in the Republican primary in California in 2008. Once again, the political parties determine the election rules and Decline-to-State could NOT vote in the Republican primary. DTS could vote for Pres in the Democratic party BUT only if they specifically asked for a Democratic ballot at their polling place. It created a NIGHTMARE because some polling places didn’t know the rules . The Republicans chose to disallow Decline-to-state in 2008 because they didn’t want “outsiders” – those from outside the Republican party crossing over to vote for President. They felt that only registered Republicans should get to choose their presidential nominee so they refused to allow Decline-to-state to vote. Now, that was only for the 2008 primary (and believe me, it will probably be different for the next primary season, primary rules change faster than we can keep up with them!) only for the primary. Anyone can vote for anyone in the General.

#339 Susie1945 on 06.19.08 at 4:54 pm

#368 BrooklynNY on 06.19.08 at 5:06 pm

BTW – Just saw a piece on FOX re: Chris Dodd, former failed presidential wannabe, where he’s involved in the Countrywide mortgages sweetheart deals (I think he had to resign from a financial committee because of it) and that Nancy Pelosi is under pressure (as Speaker of the the House) to begin an investigation of these shady deals. Let’s see if she does it. If she weasels out of investigating….hmm. Well, what does that say about integrity in govt?

Also, Dodd, D-CT, came out and supported BO shortly after dropping out. Was he promised protection from being investigated for his involvement in Countrywide sweetheart deals?

I’ve often wondered why some of these guys rolled over to BO so fast and so strong. I wondered what kind of carrot (or stick) he was holding over their heads.

I’m still trying to figure out what Bill Richardson (NM) weakness was. He looked so uncomfortable, nervous and sweaty whenever asked about stabbing Hillary in the back.

For talking points, go to http://www.thenation.com. Search for “Obama’s Chicago Boys”. Its an article by Naomi Klein. Interesting article about Obama’s economic policy challenges such as choosing Jason Furman to head his economic team. Remember when O gave Senator Clinton a bad time about being on the Wal-Mart board? Guess what? Furman is one of Wal-Mart’s staunch defenders. Wow, O is in over his head. Read about others in his inside group. Most of the Nation is a “progressive” bent and fairly pro O, but occasionally an article tells the truth from the other side.

she is requesting help to pay down campaign debt

#396 roxy4hill on 06.19.08 at 5:18 pm

she wants help on her campaign debt

#397 queen81 on 06.19.08 at 5:19 pm

she says staff will contact us for ideas and feelings on how to pay down debt and move foward

#398 4hillinca on 06.19.08 at 5:19 pm

I doubt she is happy. She is being forced into this. We know what she feels about Obama from the campaign trail. I am sure someone is twisting her arm!! She knows she got the most votes!! I have this picture of Donna Brazille and Howard Dean standing over her telling her what to say. Obama probably has put his guys out there too. No other candidate has been so pressured. Obama is failing and they are blaming Hillary!!

#399 queen81 on 06.19.08 at 5:20 pm

call over

#400 VA PUMA on 06.19.08 at 5:20 pm

I am on the call!!! Typing as she is talking

A thanks to all women from Hillary for all the work for her campaign. “Its just beginning”

Hillary: Thank you to all. We broke alot of barriers. Beyond thrilled to be the first woman to ever “to win a Presidential primary.” On saturday we are going to work to ensure victory for the Dem Party. Fight hard for Obama. I intend to take all my energy to work for Obama. I hope you will join me in working in behalf of Obama. We,ve got to elect a democratic president. Some of you and I am concerned about what happened in the primary: attitudes toward women..I will continue to fight against this and will continue to bring it to light. We are going to address that because it is not right and we are going to address that. What can you do to help? Help Obama and give me money for my campaign. Need to pay our vendors. I would appreciate your help so I can be free to work for Obama and issues I am concerned about. Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank each of you. Had finest and bravest women I know. What we stood for and what I campaigned for will come.

I keep saying that we need to “throw out” the Democrats and Republicans in Congress and start anew. Also, we need to get some new people who are not beholden to the Party in every way. We need representation of the people, for the people and by the people, not from people we see 2 or 3 times a year. Our local congressional representative use to come home every week, but now we see him at congressional break only. He took off for the Galuapagus Islands this last week with some other Congressional folks to study global warming. There have been many letters to the editor about this gig. In fact he supported the troops staying in Iraq during this last surge. They all speak an excellent story for two or three years and then they start to change. They become less and less related to communities in their areas/districts and more and more attached to Washington politics. When they do come to our communities, they seek out only the elected officials, chambers, or business people. Very seldom to see a Senator hold a town meeting of any sort. House members tend to come and hold meetings witht he public, however, it becomes more limited the longer they stay in WA D.C.

#404 Taffy on 06.19.08 at 5:21 pm

didn’t sound like the Hillary I know. Also sounded liked a taped message. On Activate calls there was always some noise in the background. Nothing on this one.

#405 sheila7 on 06.19.08 at 5:21 pm

4hillinca,
i don’t know why they don’t understand that it makes us even agrier to put her out there to do his job. at least it makes me angrier, i assume most of the rest of us too.

#406 NeverMore on 06.19.08 at 5:22 pm

I think Richardson was just a disloyal opportunist who thought he would get the VP nod if he came out early for Precious. Probably told Precious he could deliver the Hispanic vote. Surprise!! Precious is just like a black widow spider who eats/kills its partners. Promises whatever he needs to at the time to get what he wants. Of all the disloyal Hillary supporters, I think I despise him the most. Joke’s on him however. No way they’ll ever give him the VP nod.

#407 webfoot on 06.19.08 at 5:22 pm

#378mayor0102 Alright! Be sure to give us the link to your letter when it hits the newspaper. And, of course, the following week if you get any responses.

#408 Taffy on 06.19.08 at 5:23 pm

Said if in New york or Washington to call and maybe get together with her so she can thank personally.

#409 Susie1945 on 06.19.08 at 5:23 pm

John or Jonathan will be in contact with us – I’ve got lots of questions for him – first of all, how much have we contributed toward the debt – there are all kinds of Hillary websites & Heidi Liu is determined to pay off her debt – is she going forward – didn’t say anything about giving up her dream of being prez especially at the end of the call or am I reading things I want to hear so badly

#410 queen81 on 06.19.08 at 5:23 pm

she did mention if we were going to be in NY or DC to let her know so she could thank us personally…perhaps we need to take her up on that and have a little east coast PUMA field trip

#411 VA PUMA on 06.19.08 at 5:24 pm

#418 4hillinca on 06.19.08 at 5:26 pm

It makes me real angry and all the more determined to make sure Obama is not elected and back Hillary at the convention. I will donate and I will continue working on her behalf however I will not vote for Obama. Why does everyone think we are “dumb” people. Don’t they understand that the DNC created this. Hillary did get more votes than any other candidate. I will not be put off to the side like an old pair of shoes. I am just angry now and no other candidate has been forced into doing what Hillary is being forced to do. I think the DNC is worried. Sorry if I rambled but…

#419 Taffy on 06.19.08 at 5:26 pm

Said her staff going to be reaching out to us to help retire debt. My first comment is going to be change the bank fund to “retire the debt” I won’t send money to Hillary website cause I don’t trust “he” can’t get his mitts on it. She definitely being pressured to back “him” Maybe he realized she didn’t do as much as he thought in her speech earlier. Chicago politics at work again!

#420 mini vee on 06.19.08 at 5:28 pm

Thank you VA PUMA for typing her call for those of us who aren’t on the call.

Senator Clinton, I will help you to bring down your debt–that’s a promise. Uhhh, as for helping that guy…I say Never. He has his rich latte liberal Dems, they can cut arugala out of their diet and donate that money to their prince.

#421 Taffy on 06.19.08 at 5:29 pm

No she did not say she was giving up. Nothing about releasing delegates. Just back Sen. Then talks about we need a Dem in WH And she was shocked at the treatment towards women.

Proud to be a Nobamican
Cause at last I know I’m free…
From empty political rhetoric
And MSNBC

So I’ll proudly stand up and cast my vote
For someone who can do the job
Not because I’m bitter, dumb or white,
Downscale or named Joe Bob

Let the pundits keep on drooling
(Tho I wish they’d get a room)
I’m more concerned with resumes
And avoiding utter doom

You can have your koolaid, hope™ and change
And claims you’ll save the day
The truth is this Messiah rose
The old Chicago way!

Proud to be a Nobamican
Cause at last I know I’m free…
From the shady kind of back room deals
That reek of Tammany….

So I’ll loudly stand up, take my vote,
And give the DNC the shaft.
May they fare as well
as in 1912……
Did Roosevelt and Taft!

#424 SusyT on 06.19.08 at 5:31 pm

Dear Democratic Party,

Please listen closely:

insult me and everything I believe in….
and then take my vote for granted. Show the
world you haven’t forgotten how to
practice what you preach.

You can listen to me now or in November.
Your call.

#400VAPUMA thanks for typing as you were listening to Hillary’s speech. I think Hillary realizes that there are many of us that are not going to fall in line. She recognizes that our stance is not solely because she is not the presumptive nominee at this time. She recognizes that we are fighting the discrimination shown against a woman running for the position of president of the United States of America. The last sentence in VAPUMAs post shows she understands. If Hillary had been working in the private sector, the military, or as a civil employee in the government, an EEO complaint would have been slapped on all the men making these comments about her so fast that they would still be reeling since gender is one of the protected categories under the EEO laws. Hillary knows what she is doing. Her speech does not worry me. In addition to being a lawyer, she is intelligent, has worked with the men in the political scene for a long time, and knows to not reveal her strategy before it is time…if she plays poker she is probably REALLY good at it.

Reply to #69 – Battle for the Hill

The is the text under picture #4 you refer to:
Obama has been dogged by rumors throughout his campaign that he’s a Muslim. His Kenyan grandfather was a Muslim convert, and his father — with whom he’s seen above — was Muslim by birth, but Obama said he was an agnostic. Obama, who was raised by his American mother and maternal grandparents, is a Christian.

I think it’s saying Obama said his father was an agnostic.

Pumas – I also believe that Hillary’s staff has been surfing, has heard the mentions from the talking heads, seen the info on her website and they know, they know, how many of us are still out here fighting the fight & will not give up on her – I think that was also when she saw the nasty, nasty, stuff regarding all women not just her – she sounded kinda stunned when she mentioned that on the call – I don’t think people really realize how awful the majority of *61s supporters really are …………she also said she is going to address this issue -wonder if her female senate colleagues will share the letters with her?????????????????????

He assured Bill he would support her and every time I saw him interviewed and questioned about going back on his word to Bill he looked so uncomfortable, nervous, sweaty – I couldn’t help thinking he looked like a guy that had done something he himself was ashamed of. If defending a decision like that makes you sweat so much, it means you did something you HAD to do, not that you “wanted” to do. I think it had more to it than just wanting/being promised the VP job. They held something over his head that put him in an impossible no-win situation, I think. I don’t believe a man like him would have sold out just for the VP job. Up to then he had a pretty impressive reputation and in the debates he sometimes was the only one of the losing wannabes that acted like a grown-up.

I think it’s much more sinister than just a bribe for VP. I just don’t know exactly what it is. Yet.

All these tactics we’re seeing in the OB campaign remind me of mob shake-downs, Chicago-style.

#449 Taffy on 06.19.08 at 5:55 pm

OK people…I pray no trolls here. I’ve written this to McCain camp and called Hillary’s office but never put into public. Remember there are 2 candidates who have not released their delegates. One is now a kool aid drinker when he said he wouldn’t endorse. They were both friends of his. So we get to the convention, the SDs have the right to dismiss potential nominees and select their own choice. So “he” releases his delegates to back kool aid drinker. And if that choice becomes kool aid drinker with #61 as VP? Everyone needs to consider this seriously and search their hearts for what they would do. I’m putting it out there now so if it comes to pass it’s not a shock. I personally will still vote McCain. I won’t be used twice. But kool aid drinker is mighty popular and would get Republicans as well. I afraid Hillary is being forced to make her choice between the two and the results if she doesn’t back “him”. She will be seen by EVERYONE as the greatest divider of all time. Think on this carefully!!!

Just sent some hillary “money” via this website to Barak.

Here’s my note to O-con man.

Barry, sweetie. I hope this money will help you toward buying the White House. I know money is tight with the DNC these days, especially toward your crowning ceremony in Denver. I’ll be sending your party some of this money as well. I’ll see you in Denver. I’ll be standing outside the convention center with fellow democracy-loving-non-kool-aid-drinking-people telling others why I will never fall in line and vote for you. Good luck in November.

How many people have they pushed out there now, to get us to jump on the band wagon? I think they believe their own (mistaken) garbage about us being uneducated therefore we will blindly follow anything anyone tells us to do and (they think) we cannot possibly think for ourselves. Well, Hillary we would love to have followed if you were the chosen one, but we do know you are more intelligent than the other side, and you know we will only do what (we feel) to be the right thing for our country… and that would be NO OBAMA!!!!

#456 tree on 06.19.08 at 5:58 pm

This is what was sent to me when I decided to go Independent.
From
Monique “NIKI” Perez
Kern County Elections Division

In a General Election (as in the upcoming in November), a person can vote for any candidate they would like to choose, regardless of their party affiliation. So, you would not necessarily have to re-register if you wanted to select a candidate other than one from the Dem Party in the General Election.

This is different than a Primary Election (like we had in Feb., and earlier this month), where the specific parties are choosing their candidates to represent their party in a future election. In a Primary, you must vote only for candiates who are affliliated with the party you have chosen to affiliate yourself with. The exception to this would be the “Non-Partisan” or “Decline to State” Voter. If someone “Declines to state” their political party affiliation when they have registered, in a Primary Election, they may choose to vote on a crossover ballot since certain parties open up their Primaries to people who have not chosen to affiliate themselves with a political party. For example, if I was a “Decline to State” voter, I would have had the opportunity to “crossover” to a Dem, Rep, or American Indep ballot for the June Primary, since those parties opened up their voting for the particular election. If I did not choose to vote on a crossover ballot, I would have recieved a Non-Partisan ballot, which would have only listed the measures and non-partisan offices (such as Judge).

Also, when a person decides to register as what people traditionally think of as “INDEPENDENT”, they are processed as being a “DECLINE TO STATE” or Non-Partisan voter. This is different than choosing an affiliation with the American Independent political party.

You must re-register whenever you change your residence address, party affiliation, or name. In order for you to be on file with the changes in effect in time for the Nov. 8th General Election. Postmarked no later than Oct.20th.

Feel free to call or email me.
perezm@co.kern.ca.us

Any ideas on how to do that – can we still use HRC.com? And it won’t go to *61?

Everytime they talk about BO I change to the other. LOL. GOANDERSON: where was that train fare from? Did anyone else hear the GOP are asking Pelosi to investigate Dodd and several others that were instrumental in the CountryWide buyout and have rec’d incredibly low mortgage rates? Dodd says he didn’t realize 4.5% showed favoritism. Pelosi said she would look into it, but other things are more important. Like steriods in baseball players.

Marylandpuma~ that is an exact line except for “to pass” after will come needs to be added.

What I really loved was the quote “Beyond thrilled to be the first woman to ever to win a Presidential primary.”

Her tone was flat when speaking of supporting Obama. Actually generally flat all over except when talking about women and their roles, aspiations and thanking us all. I got the distinct impression she was reading and doing a token assignment except for asking for money. I’m wondering what she would do if her debt was paid off. I just had the feeling she was standing in front of something she did not want us to see yet. I certainly hope so.

#470 Taffy on 06.19.08 at 6:13 pm

To spell it out Edwards is still on the ticket. Too much pressure on Obama they go for 16 years in WH…Edwards 8 then *61!!!!!! Ends talk of race and gender. Smiley boy wows everybody. DNC becomes good guys..look we listened and took race and gender out of the picture. So the question becomes, will you support Edwards if it comes to pass? NOT ME!!!!! Hillary or McCain, period. End of discussion. I don’t trust DNC and this is a very viable way to get out of this situation, keep #61 in picture, and throw Republicans a curve ball. That’s why I only wrote Hillary and McCain’s camp and never put out. It’s like a huge chess game where you have to figure strategy out ahead of time just in case.

I agree with you, goandersen. We need a Dem. But we need a Dem, if and only if, that Dem is her. As she once told us herself, “She’s our girl.” :) Aside from her, I’ll take the guy who’ll be home in America, that is, waiting to take that call at 3 AM, or at any other time, for that matter. You know, that guy who’s older than dirt and has more scars than Dracula (to quote his own words). :) and proud of it!

Just spoke to a staffer at Hillary for President and he stated yes the money goes to Senator Clinton if we continue to make contributions on her website.

I don’t think Hil is ready to throw in the towel yet, no matter what she might have overtly said on the call. NO way. Maybe if her debt is retired, she’ll have more power to speak and act independently. The only thing is we HAVE to make sure whatever we donate to pay off her debt goes TO HER AND ONLY HER! That’s the dilemma. I’m really wary of claims by her site or on the phone with Howard and Nancy standing over her head with a knife or a gun…..that contributing via the Web site or whatever is going to go to her and not the DNC, who will then give it to OB.

Well put Ms Susie Sunshine!

#477 headoverhills on 06.19.08 at 6:21 pm

The Federal laws are fairly straightforward. If you donate the money to Hillary, it won’t be stolen and given to BO. He can’t have her donations, no matter how much he might want them. I heard that he is trying to raise money to help her retire her debt. Is that true? I’d rather if WE retired her debt so that she isn’t beholden to him to get this thing paid off.

#480 anonymous on 06.19.08 at 6:22 pm

Hi PUMAs

Just got of the phone with Hillary. She was incredible as always. I couldn’t hold my emotions towards the end of the call and I yelled YAHOO! into he phone. I felt so stupid. I also did something really bad. I feel so guilty. I put Hillary on the speaker phone and recorded it on my tape recorder. Now I WILL HAVE IT FOREVER.

#470 Taffy on 06.19.08 at 6:13 pm

It’s Hillary or McCain for me too. Don’t even have to give it a second thought. Edwards did nothing for me in the debates and in his campaigning. Not a thing.
I personally don’t think he’s too popular with even moderate Repubs. He’s too “populist.” He may be popular in industrial states with big job losses, etc., but (I think anyway) what he gains w/Edwards in states like PA and OH, he’s going to lose in others.

I’m not going for Obama no matter who he puts on the ticket with himself. Mother Teresa or Jesus Christ in the flesh and blood still wouldn’t do it for me.

#484 EWard on 06.19.08 at 6:50 pm

Response to Taffy

With all due respect, Senator Obama is responsible for his own campaign. He has the money, organization, the media, and the party backing him. Despite this tremendous advantage this race between *61 and McCain is very close.

Blaming Senator Clinton for the woes of *61 has been a favorite tactic of his supporters. Where in the world is the leadership in this country to stand up against this fake candidate?

I miss Arlington, I was born and raised there. Moved down to NC (wilmington) a couple years ago from Fairfax. So its true, its become Obamaland? That depresses me. I know my democratic friends who work for DOD and Homeland Sec. are afraid to have BO as president. But they are not allowed to publically support anyone.
Are you north or south Arl?

VA PUMA

Welcome from a Arlingtonian (who lives in NC now)

Welcome aboard!

#464 gordana- Go for it. I pray I wasn’t speaking for myself, so feel free to use it. Thanks.

#488 hillfan4mccain on 06.19.08 at 7:18 pm

Fox just said we are “flocking” back to the party. Only 11% voting McCain now, we are not as angry as we were. I dont see any change with the people I am speaking with, anyone else?

#489 BrooklynNY on 06.19.08 at 7:25 pm

#488 hillfan4mccain on 06.19.08 at 7:18 pm

I sure don’t. Don’t worry what they’re saying….just keep doing our thing, onward kitties.

Btw, who on fox said that? not all anchors/commentators there are equal….and it does make a more intersesting story if it’s all over the map, up, down, up….etc.

#490 EWard on 06.19.08 at 7:27 pm

Just checking in with my PUMA to do list.

I wrote 5 uncommitted superdelegates in CA and emailed my letters this afternoon. I have 10 more to go.

hillfan4mccain

Fox is owned by Rupert Murdoch, and he has endorsed *61. So the dynamics of the political and media structure is hard to sort out. My belief is, many people are not following this race as closely as we are. They are totally in the dark about the inexperience of *61 and corruption that took place during the primary campaign.

#491 58states1 on 06.19.08 at 8:05 pm

Heading upstairs… I’m catching on….

Thanks guys, glad you enjoyed my musical moment :)
I was so depressed after the final votes, and “the speech”… I have been almost giddy since finding that I am not alone out there. That we’re pissed off and doing something about it. Love it!!

Work has been insane so I haven’t been able to pitch in as much as I would like, but I will as time allows. I do a lot of graphic work and am happy to donate time and effort to The Cause. I have access to software and am looking into some royalty-free images and extended licensing. There’s a fabulous fabulous running puma photo object I’ve got my eye on if I can just sort out the details.

ANYway… thanks again! Onward and upward!

Purrs and Grrs!

Oh yes– I’m North – aka Orange Line

I will moderate comments but have to go to work now.
